Watched Mad Max last night, now I'm mad hype for some post-apoc awesomeness. Let's get stuck in!

- - - - - -

There's nothing but sickly grey grass in any direction you look, creating a swaying landscape under a pale blue sky. To the horizon you can see mountains, covered in dead trees. You were truly in the wastelands now. The last major landmark you passed was the Dead City of Weimar, an eerie place. Only animals lived there now, the city left to ruin and abandonment. After that it was onto the plains, where the grass was sick and dry, and the trees had died to never regrow. You'd had to button up here as well, as you'd been getting fairly close to the Great Craters and the radiation zone.
"Recon to Edelweiss," comes the voice of Pearl over the comms. "Do you read me?"
You toggle your microphone over to the main channel. "I read you loud and clear, Recon. Send it."
"I want to clear up an issue of route right now, Bradley. We're coming up on Leipzig now, which is a major radiation hotspot. Usually we'd try to avoid it. However, diverting means that we'd need to go through Halle, which is a bandit outpost. Or we could just try to skirt around them both, but that leads us off the roads, and we don't know how much time that could take."

>>Go through Halle
Don't want nothing to do with radiation, even if the CBRN protection should in theory be able to handle it. We're talking about old tanks here.

>Head through Leipzig

HONK HONK IMA TONK

>Go through Halle
We should be able to blitz some bandit outpost fast, we just need to make sure to knock out their comms first so they can't warn anyone we're coming.
>>
>>40588335
>>Head through Leipzig
I don't feel like fighting through a bandit fortress.
>>
>>40588418
outpost anon, not really a fortress
>>
>>40588431
Urban environments are a fortress. Especially for tanks.
>>
Rolled 1 (1d2)

we're tied up, so 1 is Leipzig and 2 is Halle
>>
>>40588710
time to button up and crank up the filters and blitz through leipzig as fast as possible
>>

Leipzig it is then

While we could bum-rush through Liepzig...we don't know the condition of the roads.

A series of roadblocks via collapsed buildings could be very bad for us.

That said....going through Halle could result in a very bad situation....buildings + AT Weapons = Dead Tanks.

I feel we should chance Liepzig

So...

damn i late.

"We'll head through Leipzig," you tell her. "We're not sure what's in Halle and I'd prefer not to find out. We'll go through the hot spot as fast as possible."
"Copy that, Edelweiss. We'll scout a route for you."
You pause for a moment. "Negative, Recon. We don't know what's in there. Come back to us and stick with us for a while, we don't want you to get separated."
Another pause, this time on the opposite end. "...Roger, Edelweiss. But we'll still find the path. We'll meet you at Leipzig."
"Copy that, Recon. Stay safe," you reply.
Another voice cuts in. "You shall not have to worry, fair lady, as it will be the Rose of the East that protects you!" Von Grimm says. You both neglect to reply.

After another half hour of driving, something catches your eye. A column of smoke on the horizon.
"Recon, Edelweiss. Do you see that smoke column to the east?"
"Recon here, yes we do," Pearl replies.
"Can you go investigate it?" you ask.
"No need, Edelweiss. It's a waste of time."
"Why's that?"
"It's a coal mine, Profen. It's been burning since the Great War. It's a known anomaly and it's recommended that we don't go there. It's toxic to life."
You stare to the east for a moment. "Copy that, Recon. We'll stick to the path."
>>
Soon after that, a dark smudge can be seen on the horizon ahead, a smudge that eventually turns into buildings as you enter the outskirts of Leipzig. The recon platoon's two wiesels burst out of a ruined house as you get near, startling you. You have to appreciate their camouflage ability.
"Recon here, we did some preliminary scouting and we've identified two crossings of the river in Leipzig. There's a bridge that will take us across the river but crosses into the main part of the city. The other route is to the north-west and will take us around the city from the most part, but the Geiger counters start to pick up in that area. We think that might be ground zero."
You note how confident Pearl sounds now that she's absorbed in the job, then consider your options.

>Take the bridge into the city
>Take the north bridge
>It's too dangerous out here, let's turn around and take another route altogether
>Other
>>
>>40590213
any intel on what to expect in the main part of the city?
>>
>>40590213
>>Take the north bridge
We should be fine.
>>
>>40590246
"The city is dead, as far as we can see," Pearl replies. "Some of the buildings have collapses, but we think the main road is wide enough that it'll stay clear for the whole way through. We don't think there's any bandits out here."
>>
>>40590213
>>Take the north bridge
we can always double back and head through the center if its too bad in the north
>>
>>40590213
>>Take the bridge into the city
>>
>>40590305
right then, lets trust our scouts

Stop doing things then. You are a smelly neckbeard anyway. There is nothing important in your life.

Just stay here.

Should just call him Brother Grimm from now on

"We'll head north. I'd rather not chance the city if we can help it."
"Copy that, Edelweiss. Everyone should make sure to check their hatches are locked tight and your filters are working. We might kick up a lot of dust."
You reply your affirmative along with Von Grimm and the supply platoon. The six vehicles of your convoy take the road to the north, reaching an old and battered bridge crossing a stagnant and muddy river. On the other side, you see something that makes your heart drop. A crater.
"Careful not to fall in," Pearl calls over the radio. The road here is chunks of scorched asphalt skirting the crater, before getting enveloped by it. The crater is two hundred metres across, a large berm of soil forming the lip around the crater. Your Geiger counter ticks over at a steady rate as the two wiesels kick up dust with their tracks.
"This used to be an airfield," Pearl says. "A large one, made of concrete, that serviced massive aircraft that carried hundreds of passengers."
"It was a different time," you say.
"It was," Pearl agrees.
You couldn't imagine that this hole in the ground could have been anything more than it is now.

As you skirt around the crater, trying to find the road north again, you spot a single centurion tank perched on the lip, teetering on the edge where it came to rest.
"What's the deal with that wreck?" you ask.
Sarah slews her periscope around. "Who knows?" she replies. "There's been a thousand battles between now and the Great War. It could have been there from any one of those."
Susan pipes up from the driver's seat. "If it's a centurion, it could be from when that old British tank Legion led a force out of Dresden to fight the Russians here, during the last war." You leave the wreck behind as you continue to drive. "You know, there's a legend among tankers about centurions and craters. You want to hear it?"
"Excuse me, miss, you're on the open channel," Von Grimm mentions.
Susan continues, ignoring him. "They have a legend from before the Great War. Back when they were testing nuclear bombs, they wanted to see its effects on an armoured vehicle. They picked a centurion and used it in numerous detonations. Every time, the centurion survived, unscathed. They hosed it down and drove it off again, running in perfect condition. That tank, Centurion 169041 was said to then fight in the Great War, and survives to this day."
"And what, that wreck we passed was that tank?" you ask, sceptical.
"There's another legend, you know," Susan says. "If you want to find tank One-Six-Nine Oh-four-one, all you need to do is go to any crater in Europe. She will be there to guide you out."
"Well I hope She can guide us out of this place," you say, feeling a little unsettled.
