I am Daniel Speltin, top tier waste of potential and mid tier student, all round unimportant person about town.
Enswith, the prick, seems delighted to see me here, as Marie's parent's greet me, smiling neutrally. "Daniel, how splendid to see you." His smile has a sadistic hint behind it, a cold mask that doesn't cover his eyes.

Marie, apparently sensing the panic blaring through my head, tilts her head as she sits, breath hitching quietly, before glaring at her brother.

"Oh Marie, leave your brother alone." Her mother snaps, "It's been six years, let it go."

Her father, sitting next to me, just rolls his eyes, leaning in and whispering, "He got angry and torched her bookshelf when he found out he was adopted."

Enswith leans across the table, offering me his hand, "Put 'er there, pal!" The last word drips with implied threat, an 'or else' hanging in the air.

Reluctantly, I take his hand and shake it, half surprised that my hand doesn't come away slimy from touching him.

Marie's mother smiles between the two of us, "I take it you know each other then?" She asks, "How did the two of you happen to meet?"

Enswith raises his eyebrows expectantly at me, "Oh, I think Daniel tells the story much better than I do. Quite the orator..." His words slide out of his mouth, while Marie presses her foot down on top of mine under the table, a silent message.

"Marie and I are rather close with his former fiance."

Although, I'm now wondering how Masengil here got engaged to Rosa in the first place if Marie's family aren't anyone of particular note/power/wealth.
>>
I clear my throat, looking over to his parents, boy is it obvious Enswith's not related to them, Marie's the spitting image of her mother, and her father's a squat, wall of muscle, "I know his former fiancee, we met through her."

Her father nods, "Ah, the Mishone girl? Yes, it was a shame what happened with her, wasn't it En?" He just shrugs and smiles, tapping his fork slowly against the table. "Enswith's birth father is trying to get involved with his life again, so he's trying to set up prostigious marriages for him.

"I'll manage, I'm sure." Enswith smiles, "I think I much prefer Lilith to that Mishone sow."

My fingers instinctively grab at my fork, before Marie stamps on my foot, shaking her head subtly, as Marie's mother shakes her head, "En dear, no need to get sour grapes now is there? Just because she found someone else she likes, doesn't mean the two of you had nothing."

Yes. Yes it does, but Enswith just shrugs her off, "Honestly, Rosalyn is such a simpering little idiot, I'm glad I don't have to put up with her anymore."

Both parents just titter, rolling their eyes, "Well then, shall we order. Marie is sitting bolt upright, eyes constantly shifting between everyone, as we place our orders, as the waitress moves off, Enswith speaks up again, "Oh Daniel! You should tell them how you met my dear sister, I'm sure we're all dying to know."

"We met through mutual friends, started hanging out with each other when we found that we shared similar interests."

I buy time by downing a whole glass of water, thinking furiously, "We met through some mutual friends." I tell them, "They dragged me along to a-"

Marie, knowing I'm fumbling for a club, cuts me off, "-A book club. Daniel and I really got along, and I.... thought he was cute. After a few meet ups, he asked me out." She nods rapidly at the end, as if assuring them she's telling the truth.

Her mother holds a hand to her forehead, pretending to swoon, "Oh, how romantic. It sounds like something out of a book itself." She leans over and nudges Enswith with her elbow, "Perhaps you could take a few lessons in chivalry from him, huh En?"

His smile fades, and the tapping of his fork increases in speed, "Maybe." He replies, "So- Daniel, what would you say.... do you think you love my sister? It's certainly a lovely story how you met."

They're mother swats his hand lightly, "Oh En, don't pressure the boy, he's just a teenager!"

Mr Gutla nods, "Yes, I don't remember anyone forcing a declaration of love out of you when you were sixteen." Sixteen, is that how old she said you were?

Enswith's eyes lock with mine, "Oh, sorry Daniel. Just being the protective older brother, you know how it is. Got to make sure that you're not going to hurt her, that she's the only gal for you."

I set my jaw for a moment, picking out the verbal loophole, "My only intention is to see her happy, never to hurt her."

"Good lad." Mr Gutla nods, clapping me on the shoulder, "Now En, can you stop giving him such a grilling?"

He just shrugs, forced casualness in the movement, smiling good naturedly, he knows he's still got me, all he has to do is say a few words. "Of course." He turns to Marie next, "So.... how's working for pennies and dimes in the public sector?"

Marie frowns at him, "I LIKE working at a public school, EN!"

Her parents cough at that, "Marie honey... are you sure about that? It's just that... well, you know, the Ashlyn Academy would still love to take you. And you'd make so much more, you could buy your own home by the time you're twenty, rather then living out of a box..."

Marie lays her hand over mine, "I like where I am, I help more kids who need it where I am." She repeats firmly, "And I like my flat."

Her parent's sigh, giving each other a tired look, "If you say so dear." Her father grunts, as the food arrives.

Marie quickly sets in, stuffing food into her mouth as quickly as possible, clearly trying to finish the meal as fast as possible.

"Marie, honey, slow down, you'll choke yourself!"

She blushes, then gulps, still quickly packing the meal away, dodging questions, before her parent's turn their attention back to me. "So, Daniel, you're in close with the Mishones too?" Mr Gutla asks in a hushed tone from behind his dessert menu.

I nod, glancing at Enswith, "I know them as much as anyone else, I suppose."

He nods, "There wouldn't be any chance that you could.... talk their daughter into seeing Enswith again, is there? It's just that his new fiancee is.... rather unpleasant."

Dude, what the fuck are you doing?
Marie's parents don't know that we're in a relationship with both Rosa and Marie, and Enswith hasn't used that information against us because we've been able to keep it together and he can't use it against us right now for some reason.
Why are you breaking apart all of the work we put into this?
>>
>>40576792
>Mrs. Gutla
It's her dad talking to us, dipshit.
And you're giving Enswith what he wants by exposing us seeing Rosa as well as Marie, when he obviously can't just say it for some reason.
>>
>>40576765
He made a rather large ass of himself after the fact, any affection she had for him was lost in the petty insults he volleyed at her. I do believe words, like cow and worse were used.
>>
>>40576765
"I'm sorry, but my brother is actually on a contract with them. I'd rather not try to push where my brother's boss is concerned. He's quite an...intimidating man."
>>
>>40576765
>"Truly? But to hear Enswith speak, Lillith is a Saint compared to Rosalyn."
>>
I shake my head, "Sorry Mr Gutla, but considering all the insults he's levelled at them since breaking it off, there's almost no chance that they'd consider him again, and there's no love lost between him and Rosa. I do believe words like 'cow' were used, among worse."

He flinches, sighing, "Figured as much. Just wish he'd learn one of these days." He drops his menu, "You know what, I think I'll go for a sundae actually."

Enswith's still just smiling at me, taking a moment to check something on his phone, eyebrows raised curiously, before lowering again.

Marie coughs, "Umm, I- I think what I ate for lunch is giving me an upset tummy." She groans, clutching her gut, "W-would it be okay if..." She doubles over, groaning, "I think I should head home." She mutters, tapping my foot twice, clearly wanting an out.

Her mother titters, "Poor dear.... You're not eating ice cream for breakfast again, are you? Because I told you that was a bad idea when you first moved here, and it made you sick then as well."

Marie just shakes her head, "No- urghhh. I think, just some bad fish, we- I really need to go!"

Her parent's nod, "Okay dear, we'll stop by and see you tomorrow. Daniel, you'll walk her home?"

I nod, stepping up and ushering Marie towards the door, "Welcome to the family Daniel." Enswith calls after us, "Or not!"

Marie straightens the second we step out the front door, "What do we do?" She asks, nodding back at her brother, "He's just playing with you, he can tell them any time he wants, about us, and all the others. And my parent's WON'T like that."

I grab her and hug her close as she starts walking back to her place, "We'll figure something out. Maybe get some dirt back on him. Rosa might have some, and if not, we can always have Mia forge something that could ruin him."

She nods, a look of worry on her face still, but leans into me, "I'm sorry...." She mutters, "I didn't know you knew him." She shakes her head, "I can get in your head, but I didn't pick that up, I must be a real idiot, huh?"

I kiss her on top of the head, squeezing her gently. "It's fine. We came through it without immediate problems."

I take a few moments to consider, "I guess I should go track her down..." I finally mutter, Marie nodding in approval.

I try to call Mia, but it goes to her answering machine, ringing out. A few moments later, a text comes through from her. 'Can't pick up, at Caravan park playground.'

Marie in tow, I hurry back towards Claire's home, hoping that Mia's at least partially calmed her down. Marie spots them first, pointing over to the two.

They're sitting at the table, by the playground, its empty save for her and Mia, a cold wind blowing past. All it needs is a fucking tumble-weed and it’d be at about max discomfort.

I approach slowly, and Claire looks up, glaring at me. She stands slowly, Mia laying a hand on her shoulder, but Claire just shrugs her off. “I expected more from you Danny. I thought when we got this...” She flexes her fingers into fists, clenching and unclenching, “I thought that we weren’t just going to roll over and die.” Her words are quiet, venomous. “But you looked my dad square in the eye, and that’s what you told that shit head to do.”

She shoves me, I expect it to send me flying across the room, but I'm only pushed back a step. Marie and Mia both step forward, "Claire, I know your angry but-"

“I don’t even care that my powers aren’t working right now.” She continues, her eyes shining and wet, “How the hell am I supposed to look out for someone who doesn't help their family?”

(cont)
>>
>>40578119

Mia’s desperately trying to pull her away from me, “Claire, please! Danny was only trying to get on their good side, making a scene wouldn't help him.”

Even without the powers, Claire’s strong enough to ignore her and faster than me, kicking me in the ankle, I go off balance, before she shoves me to the dirt.

“How can I expect MY kids to look up to you? Cos I don’t want them raised by some ineffectual cunt, who just does what he’s told!” She demands, clutching her stomach. "Because I've been there, that's a shitty way to grow up."

Marie steps between us again, “Claire, look, Danny cares about your family, but he was scared of what the agents would do. They had weapons!”

Claire ignores her, leaning around her to stare down at me. “Is this it then? Going to let them do all the talking for you? Just going to lie there in the dirt?” She balls her fists up, "SAY SOMETHING!"

>Quit being so melodramatic, your dad gave up a long time ago. I'm not going to let you get dragged down too. You can't save someone who doesn't want to saved love.
>>
>>40578137
Claire, your father already gave up. I saw it in his eyes. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. If I had saw a spark of want, of willingness to give effort, I would have fought tooth and nail for it. I didn't and I wasn't going to piss away our futures for someone who wouldn't care about our help anyways.
>>
>>40578137
Sometimes doing the wrong thing is worse than doing nothing.
Imagine if we made scene, and they just shot us? What then? Get thrown in a prison for fraud? All that for extremely short term fix?
Plus your dad gave up already.
I can't do miracles Claire. We think of something. There are other options out there, we just gotta find them.

(ugg, I hate people that think they are obligated to support money)
>>
>>40578137
Yes, I did look your father in the eye, but I didn't tell him to stop, He told me. When someone I care about tells me to stop fighting, I atleast listen. His eyes told me he'd fought this battle too hard and too long.
>>
>>40578137
>"There's nothing to say. You're absolutely right. I was weak when it mattered, and I should have fought when I just let things happen."
>>
>>40578137
"Sometime's you just need to find another way. Would it have been better if your dad got shot? We just need to figure out something else."
>>
I pick myself up slowly, looking her dead in the eye. "Claire. Your dad already gave up, long, long ago. Hell, it might've been when your mum died." She flinches, more tears rolling down her face, "If I'd thought he wanted to fight it, I would have helped him, tooth and nail, but he told you and Eri to drop it."

Mia wraps herself around one of Claire's arms, hugging into her, "Danny didn't tell want to give up. But.... it was a fight that was already lost."

I step forward, clapping both hands on her shoulders, "Look, I can lead a horse to water, but I can't make him drink, and if your dad wasn't going to fight it, we couldn't have pushed it. The best case is that we'd end up in jail for trying to fraud them. He didn't want to be saved."

That breaks Claire, the silent tears rolling down her face turning into full on sobbing, her eyes turning red and puffy, she drops to her knees.

She raises a fist and punches the ground, the blow hits so hard that the concrete below shatters, the ground shaking, like a small earthquake, a shockwave of pressure pushing all three of you back. "FUCKING! PIECE! OF! SHIT!" She punctuates each word with another blow to the ground, the ground shaking so violently that dogs are starting to bark, car alarms going off blocks away.

The ground around her pulverised to dust, she raises her bleeding hands to her eyes, wounds sewing shut, she just kneels in the dirt, silent again.

Mia and Marie swoop in too comfort Claire, Mia taking her jacket and putting it around Claire's shoulders, as I head towards Claire's caravan. The door's unlocked, and I let myself in, stepping over the wreckage of a broken beer bottle, I peer into Mr Miller's room.

I've never looked in here before, much like Claire's 'room' it's mostly barren, a bare mattress on the floor, empty bottles everywhere.

He's passed out on the bed, a spilled bottle of Jack's soaking into his bed, the melted in half pair of sunglasses laying on the floor. Glancing up, I see a photo collage, each one duct taped to the roof, Mr Miller's in some of them, but all feature a short haired woman, usually smiling, sometimes in her teens, sometimes her twenties, and in one corner, a series of her getting slowly more pregnant, ending with her holding a baby.

He grunts in his sleep, rolling over, the Jack's rolling off the mattress and glugging all over the floor. I grab the bottle and set it upright, staring down at Mr Miller.

I nudge him with my foot, and he snorts, but doesn't wake.

I grab a pen and paper, leaving my phone number with him, telling him to call me when he's sober, before leaving it by his sunglasses.

I make sure to lock it from the inside before I leave, Marie is talking quietly with Claire, Mia rubbing her back, but Claire's just silent, staring at the table.

"Come on." I tell her, laying a hand on her shoulder. "Let's head out."

She stands, following, as we move towards the street, I wrap an arm around her waist, kissing her on the temple, as we head back to my place, she stays silent the whole way.

Marie bids goodbye at my door, apologising, "I'm really sorry, but my parents have said they're going to visit my flat tomorrow, I have to clean up." She rests her forehead against Claire's for a moment, apologising again, before taking off.

The house is empty and quiet, everyone else must be out, save for a light on in Eri's room. She peeks her head out when we reach the top of the stairs, curious after trying to help defend Mr Miller's case.

I silently shake my head, and she walks over to Claire, "Hey... if you want, I can order pizza? My treat?"

Claire gulps loudly, "Sure." She blinks a few times, some of her usual fire coming back to her eyes, "Thanks Eri." She jerks her thumb at my door for a moment, "Danny? Can we talk, alone, for a minute?"

I grab her by the chin and tilt her head up, "Hey, come on. You're apologising now, and you realised it quickly."

She chews the inside of her lip a moment, "I.... I hated you for a few hours there. I hated you so much, that all my powers stopped working." She swallows, "But... it wasn't you I hated. It's- it's everyone else. They see my dad and they spit on him, they hear my name, and they know I'm no good. I... didn't tell you about it, but they barely let me into high school, they thought I'd be too much of a problem."

I make her look me in the eyes, "You are not a problem alright?" I keep her looking into my eyes, her breath fogging my glasses, until she finally nods. "I love you." I add.

She nods a few times, "You too." She takes a few deep breaths, "It's just... it feels like my emotions are getting more and more out of control lately."

"Any idea what could be doing it?" I ask gently, pulling her hands up and holding them both in mine.

She shakes her head slowly, before nodding, "I cut back on my protein supplements a while back. I heard they make your gooch taste funny, and since you've finally started eating healthy, I figured I'd do that for you."

"Are they even mood altering?"

She shrugs, "Fuck if I know. But I'll try going back on them, see what happens?" We both nod for a few moments, before she forces a smile. "Thanks for.... trying. With me, I mean. I don't want to end up like him. So I'm going to keep you-" she jabs a finger into my chest, "Safe, forever, got it?"

She starts to nod, "Yea-" She pauses mid word, starting to count on her fingers. "Hang on... I'm.... eight days late." Her eyes go wide, and she gulps loudly. "So unless you've made me go sterile or some shit.... we might have an issue."

I feel a bead of sweat crawl all the way from my temple to my neck, "Eight days? You're sure?"

She starts counting on her fingers again, "No... it's nine." She places a hand over her stomach, "I.... I mean if I am. Should we keep it?"

I place my hand beside hers, her skin warm, "Of course we'll keep it." I tell her, "But we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves just yet."

Her smile breaks out, warm and bright, like the sun, as she grabs me by the back of the neck, pulling me into one more soft kiss. "I'll go see if I can raid a test from your mums' cabinets." She promises, slipping out the door.

I wait for her, pacing around the room, wondering if this is legit, or if Claire, being Claire, fudged the numbers in her head. She doesn't keep a calendar for that stuff, as far as I know anyway, and math was never her strong suit, hell, she could barely multiply before I started helping her....

My phone buzzes, "Fnd1, in bafrum" God damn it Claire. Attached is an image, a pregnancy test, sitting on a tissue.

Also, guys, hear me out here: I think we need to fight Mr. Miller. Not, like, try and kick his ass legit, but try and smack some sense into him.

He has disintegration owers.
>>
>>40581495
Dude he disintegrates things when angry.
Smacking him is basically suicide, unless we wear anti alloy knight suit or something.

Wait when was the last time that we had vaginal sex with Claire? Because there is a chance that this is Avery's kid...
>>
I quietly hurry towards the bathroom, slipping in and locking it behind me, Claire sits on the toilet, staring at the plate expectantly. "I already peed on it, it just said five minutes, so...." She scoots over, offering me half the seat. "Danny, whatever it comes out..." She just leans her head into my shoulder, it doesn't need to be said.

"I love you too."

"Oh, I was gonna say, whatever it comes out, you're sticking to blowjobs for a while." We both chuckle at that, Claire fidgeting with her hands, "I wonder if I'll do anything to it?" She asks, "I mean, will it grow... faster? Will my body try to kill it, like a parasite? And what if I crush it giving bir-"

I shush her, "Calm down. That can all wait until we know the answer, okay?"

She tilts her head, "Oh god, what if it's Avery's?"

We wait in silence for her alarm to go off, when it finally pings, Claire takes a few deep breaths, stands and picks it up, reading the measurement, gasping as she shows it to you,

"It's negative!" Claire cheers, binning the test, before pulling me up, wrapping me in a hug and jumping up and down. "Fuck yes, let's go have some unprotected sex!"

I sigh, letting out the tension in my chest, ruffling her hair, "How about no, for now?" I ask.

She tucks her head down, burying it in my chest, "Thank Christ, I was trying to be cool, but come on, we're seventeen and eighteen." I pat her on the back a few times, until she glances up, "It can wait.... like a year, I guess, when we can can raise them with Rosa's dosh."

"A whole year?" I ask, "You're giving me that much breathing time."

She smirks, "Well I assume that her parent's will be milking you all year to make sure they get their grandkids ASAP, until pinky's pregnant, I doubt I'll have the chance." She smiles, "What was it her mum said, 'I expect heirs Daniel, now I'm gonna walk away, swaying my hips and being all milfy'."

I roll my eyes, "Shut up."

She pushes me up against a wall, kissing my neck for a moment, before staring into my eyes, a cheerful twinkle behind them. "Make me." I shove her face away and she snaps at me painfully for a moment, before she gets serious. "So... you're cool, right? That it was a negative?"

Planned parenthood is preferable, as it is better for the kids.

We still should retest it, the tests might be unreliable.

Y-yeah
>>
>>40582057
"Yeah, I mean I love you and everything but dear lord do you know how many problems this would call. My family would flip cept for dad. You dad would probably kill me, Mishone's would find out and be mad, and shit lets not bring up school."
>>
>>40582057
As long as we get a positive at some point I think I'll be ok.
>>
I nod, "Yeah, I mean... I love you and everything, this timing's just not great. I mean, think of all the shit that would hit the fan. My family would lose their shit, your dad might murder me, Rosa's parent's would hunt me to the end of the earth and- fuck, then there's school."

She nods slowly, "Yeah... but the second Rosa's positive I'm jumping you." She smirks, "Think about it, we can have a tiny horde of kids, all the same age, running around Rosa's mansion. We can even take bets and rac-"

"You're not racing them." I tell her.

"Aw, your no fun." She butts her head into my chin. "Oh, right, pizza. Come on dude. At least Eri has taste, she might have actually got good pizza. Unlike you."

She sticks her tongue out at me as she drags me to the door and down to the kitchen. "Guess who's not pregnant?" Claire trills on the staircase.

"Literally all of us." Eri grunts, Mia nearly chokes on her food, "Well, as far as we know at least."

I look her in the eyes, "Eri, shut up." She just shakes her head, tossing the pizza box to us.

"Whatever, Claire, everything.... good now?"

Claire snatches the box from my hands, "Fuck yeah, capsicum!" She snatches a slice out, before leaning over and sloppily kissing Eri, "Thanks NAY CHAN!"

Eri groans in mock disgust of Claire's butchering of those words, playfully shoving Claire off of her. Claire waits to devour her pizza, before leaping on Eri, molesting her through her clothes, calling Mia and I in for the assist.

All in all, it turned into a pretty fun night.

And I made sure I used some god damn condoms.
