A scene of battle is before you: Your Isla and your priestess, Tania are back-to-back battling against a dozen more Isla’s and a swarm of bulky hunched-over monsters with wide gaping mouths and long claws, resembling no beast or demon that you know. One of the things vomits some sort of sludge at Tania, who dodges out of the way, and then brings her halberd down on its arm, severing it.

Swooping around the two the other Islas throw spell after spell, but all are skilfully countered by your Isla, her halo blazing above her head, sweat pouring down her face.

The Other Isla’s are not uniform in appearance: Some have extra eyes or limbs, others have fanged maws. Still others resemble undead or a mixture of Isla and some sort of monster. All wield magic with Isla’s exacting skill however.

In the background you are aware of crowds of men, women and children in chains, being herded forward into sunken pools of foul-smelling green energy. As they walk into the pools they are horribly misshapen, emerging as monsters, if they emerge at all.

A crowd of humanoid automata, similar to the machines you encountered in the Drowned Lands, are their jailors.

Do Succubi register as evil still due to not having Welcoming Light or is that just for other demons with the domain itself taking care of Succubi?

This isn't going to vaporize the unwillingly mutated victims, right?

>>40573807
It mentions being able to cast other magic due to working it's words of power into the song. The constant verbal component just means we can't cast the spell silently even if we had the feat for that.

Succubi domain means your spells and the spells of your priests, paladins etc no longer treat them as evil.

Other gods spells plus arcane magic still treats them as evil.

It will, sadly. Since it would have hurt that Drow girl back then too.

>I'm not sure if gifting her a horrible mockery of the woman we love is the right response to that.
I was thinking we use the horrible mockery to target the first copy and port it to us, still a bit of a fixer uper but I'm sure our sister would like her own and it deprives the LOLs of their Isla.
>>
>>40573867
Well, Deific Restoration can fix it if it does kill some of them. Given that a fair amount of the refugees are being lost to the ooze instead of mutating, we'd probably wind up using it anyway.
>>
>>40573921
>Well, Deific Restoration can fix it if it does kill some of them.
Sadly, we don't have Deific Restoration right now. Not sure if its barred under the same reason as Life to the Lifeless.

>>40573920
>I was thinking we use the horrible mockery to target the first copy
That would still work, if it does at all work which I doubt, after we cleansed the copy of the mutations.
Since the LoL explicitly keeps the original Simulacrum with him personally, I don't have much hope to pierce his wards against teleportation though.
>>
>>40573920
>I was thinking we use the horrible mockery to target the first copy and port it to us
I'm torn between the awkwardness of it, and the amusement I get from imagining we cleanse all those Isla copies and our sister gets a harem of Islas.
>>
>>40573966
>That would still work, if it does at all work which I doubt, after we cleansed the copy of the mutations.
I have no problem with cleansing them, I was asking if we should try and keep one alive (or even just the body)
>Since the LoL explicitly keeps the original Simulacrum with him personally, I don't have much hope to pierce his wards against teleportation though.
We just need someone with a lot of DP to help us.

Do we have to give her all the Harem?
>>
>>40574081
>Do we have to give her all the Harem?
I'm fairly sure Isla would not like Sireyi marrying her a dozen more times.
>>
>>40574081
>Do we have to give her all the Harem?
Assuming they're even going to decide they want to stay with a Sireyi instead of just pursuing their own path in life, yes due to Sireyi's views on relationships. She wants to spend a lot of time with all of her loved ones and to make them feel special, she's already having trouble with doing that.
>>
>>40574081
>We just need someone with a lot of DP to help us.
The LoLs magic is so absurdly powerful he considers Deific Power worthless and just hands it to his minions.
>>
>>40574127

>>
-Isla I’m coming!- you send a message to your paladin as you fly towards the pools of toxic green whatever-it-is.

-Just remember- Isla sends back –I’m the pretty one, don’t get me confused with these things- But you can feel strain in her mental voice.

-I won’t forget- you promise, as you land in front of the crowd being herded into the pools, your wings spread and your halo dancing and crackling above your head.

As the automata point their staves at you, you raise your own protective spell to turn back any magic they might use, and at the same time you open your mouth and you start to sing!

[AE 75/97]

As the sound of your voice spreads throughout the area, the power of your angelic magic accompanies it, bolstering your allies, and harming your enemies.

Several of the monsters simply drop dead and the others stagger back, bleeding from ears and mouths.

The automata likewise stagger, though they seem sturdier than the monsters.

The Isla’s seem unaffected. One of them turns her attention from Isla and Tania to you and says without expression, in a hollow voice “we know how you fight Sireyi, we were prepared for this.”

The pools of green slime and magical energy grow dim, and those emerging from them are no longer mutated, though they are crying and swiping at their eyes and ears. Your sight reveals that the pools are no longer magical, but whatever the mixture is in there, it’s not benign. Still, no one else is being forced into the pools, as you’re standing in the way. Indeed the captured people are trying to flee, though being all chained together this is more of a shuffle. The guards ignore them and focus on you.

Isla casts her spell and fills herself with magical power, her eyes glow and her voice takes on an echoing quality when she speaks.

Tania casts her spell and holy energy washes into the area around you. Curiously the only ones affected are the automata, slowing as they advance, but still coming.
>>
The automata fire bolts of arcane energy at you from their staves, focusing their energies on you. Soon your shield against spells is at its limit, but it does its job, reflecting their own arcane energy bolts back at them, slaying several.

[Spell Turning exhausted]

Then this Isla’s cast their spells. They make no attempt to hide what they’re doing, Dimensional Anchor spells and....Walls of Stone.

Soon you’re trapped alone within a hemisphere of stone, you’ve no idea how thick it is, but several of the Isla’s were using that spell so...at least 5ft of stone between you at the rest of the battle. Ordinary teleportation won’t work in here, but you can bypass that using your deific power, and the Islas must know that. Are they relying on your distaste for being underground? It’s hardly a phobia after all.

You can hear Isla narrating her fight via your link –Feeblemind spells, do you really think that will work on me, do you think any magic will work on me? *Me!*- She sounds like she’s getting over-excited.

Not really, we could have just have broken it slowly as long as our form wasn't much larger than the dome. Regular Seraphic Dragon wouldn't have been, busting it wide open with Huge from will ensure the stone pieces fly wide and with a lot of force.

Regular form is already way bigger than the space inside the dome. We'd have to break it open quickly or risk getting crushed to death by our own transformation either way.

This is assuming that Titan's Strength doesn't vaporize the dome entirely. If we can throw an ancient wurm into a high earth orbit, it's entirely possible it would.

You reach deep within yourself and draw forth another shape you can wear. Your angelic appearance morphs into a more draconic appearance, though retaining your feathered wings.

At the same time you swell in size, until your shoulders are pressed against the room of this rocky dome. Then you keep growing and pit your magically-enhanced strength against mere stone.

The rocky dome explodes around you as you break free with a deep roar, scattering fragments of stone everywhere. You also manage to collapse a large chunk of it on yourself, making your exist from your rocky prison painful and undignified, but you escape. Your healing powers quickly deal with the scrapes and bruises you pick up as you struggle free.

[AE 63/97, DE 162/172]

Now that you’re out in the open you can see Isla’s spell hammer at her doubles with crystalline projectiles, tearing into them and killing some of them. The others swoop out of the way, or quickly cast spells to protect themselves, either way Isla has them on the defensive, for now.

[Isla AE 74/108]

Tania swoops down towards the people in chains and starts yelling at them, getting them to follow her lead away from the fight. Thanks to her, they are far away enough that the larger chucks of stone you fling about don’t go near them.

The mutated monsters rush at you, biting and clawing at your limbs. Their bites are painful and the burning sensation that quickly fades tells you that they’re poisoned as well. Had your exit from the stone trap been quicker you would be in flight and away from such annoyances. Still, your ability to heal is easily keeping pace with the damage that you’re suffering from.

The Automata switch tactics and point their staves at...the other Isla’s...?
>>
The other Isla’s fly close together and start group-casting some sort of spell that mixes arcane magic, divine magic, and some sort of horrible twisted mess that you can only assume is the Lord of Lifes own powers. Blasts of pure arcane energy from the autamat’s staves seem to be enhancing their powers somehow.

All around you magic writes and burns. You’ve no idea what they’re doing. But its probably not good.

[Wild Magic in effect; a single 1 activates Perils of the Arcane]

A dark smear appears between the Islas, like a gateway opening to another plane, but all wrong somehow.

-Sireyi!- you hear your Isla’s voice in your head –We need to stop them, now!-

An ordinary dispelling attempt would likely be futile against the Lord of Lifes own magic, but one enhanced by deific power might work...

Killed four of them last time she did it.

The automata might be just as much of a vital component, though I admit it's somewhat unlikely. It could be that without their staves fueling it, the spell would go wild or dissipate due to the arcane energy shaping it not having enough fuel. It'll at least slow the spell down or make the end result weaker.
>>
13 minutes and only 1 vote for Sireyis extra breath weapon Arcane energy, so 30 it is.

You pause in your singing for an instant to breath out wave of holy energy all over the automata, dropping all of them. Whatever they are made of simply disintegrates under the might of your holy magic.

Around your legs, the monsters continue to bite and claw at you, to no real effect beyond being painful annoyances.

[AE 32/97]

At the same time Isla casts her spell, launching more crystalline projectiles at her dark reflections.

[Isla AE 39/108]

The projectiles slam into them, occupied as they are by their spell, they can spare none of their attention to dodge, so focused are they upon their spellwork. Your Isla easily cuts them down, until only two are left.

Then you concentrate and unleash your spell, tearing apart theirs.

[Deific Power -3, AE 28/97]

The dark smear rips apart and a gigantic malformed limb that’s part claws, part hand and part tentacle reaches through, grasping at whatever is nearby. It’s easily a hundred feet in size, and not all of it is through the portal.

The two Other Islas fly well back as it reaches through and fumbles around.

-What is that?- Asks Isla, as Tania continues to hurry the chained captives further away.

-I don’t know- you send back. To your sight it doesn’t make much sense, radiating arcane ane divine magic in a manner reminiscent of the Huroni devices, and its physical form is like nothing you’ve ever seen. Some sort of experiment perhaps?

The portal it has reached through is closing slowly, as the massive limb flops and scrabbles on the hard ground.

Suddenly one of the Other Islas casts a simple magic missile spell at it, and it lashes out towards her. She dives out of the way, and it continues in that direction...heading for the captives. It moves fast for its size too.

Oh great, clearly they want you to get in the way or burn that thing with a spell so it tries to grab you. The portal will close on that thing soon, but in the meantime, people could be killed.

Ok, opening the mystery box it is.

Still, an interesting idea. Something to discuss whilst I write the update:

Do you want to DP your wives?
>>
>>40575673
>Do you want to DP your wives?
I like the idea in theory, but it has a lot of issues that could come with it.
Mostly that it paints a huge target on their back, even more so than just being our wives anyway.

>>40575673
The fact that major deities don't have Avatars leading their churches or anything, makes me think there are downsides to this we aren't completly aware of.
>>
>>40575691
On the other hand, as you said, they're already being targeted for being our wives and DP would give them better odds of surviving the plans of our enemies.
>>
>>40575745
>they're already being targeted for being our wives and DP would give them better odds of surviving the plans of our enemies
Not really by that much, as it were.
And the enemies that would target them for their DP would be absurdly dangerous.
Theere aren't really all that many enemies that would target them for being our wives, there are definitly far more powerful ambitious people who would try to grab some of that easy DP.

That DP can be sensed would also be another issue, especially for Jal.
>>
>>40575744
OK so we need to ask about the pros and cons first.
>>
>>40575786
Yeah, thats the thing. Its not a bad idea or anything, but I feel like we don't really understand all the implications of avatarhood yet.
Its something we should ask anyway, because of the two we have already.
>>
>>40575744
Most Gods don't give their highest servants godly power then assign them a desk job, I guess. Or they just don't have enough presence on this plane to think it warrants an Avatar as overseer for their religion.

>>40575771
>Not really by that much, as it were.
Weren't Delax's weapons also enchanted to be able to kill our wives?

>>40575803
It is a pretty bad idea.
>>
>>40575822
>It is a pretty bad idea.
Why do you think that?
Besides the obvious of making them a especially attractive target for power hungry wanna-be gods, of course.
>>
>>40575822
>Weren't Delax's weapons also enchanted to be able to kill our wives?
My mistake if you read my response about the weapons. I confused something there.
They were enchanted against our blood relatives. Which our wives aren't.
Though Isla 'might' count, depending on how it works.
>>
>>40575849
That's the only reason I need, really. It would also make kidnapping attempts on our kids more likely, as a way to get to the mother.
>>
As Isla takes care of her duplicates, you fly some distance away from the fleeing civilians. When you’re far enough away you fire off a lightning bolt at the grasping arm. It doesn’t seem hurt but you do get its attention and it lashes out in your direction, again moving much faster than it should be able to.

With your speed you simply swoop around it, not giving it a chance to get close to you. Finding nothing, the arm waves around, meandering, looking for something, anything, as the portal closes around it.

You hit it with another lightning bolt as it moves in the direction of the chained prisoners again. This time you put a bit more *force* behind the bolt, to keep its attention.

[Deific power -1]

The arm twitches and instead of lashing out at you, it simply falls limp, hitting the ground. At the same time the portal constricts around the base of it, and whatever it is attached to starts to drag it through to the other side of the portal.

“Wait!” yells Isla, diving down and taking a knife out, sawing off a chuck of flesh “I want a sample!”

Oh Isla, you roll your eyes, ever the scholar. You dive down after her and pull her away before she’s dragged into the portal. Still, she’s got her sample of...whatever it is, wraps it in cloth and casts a spell to preserve it, for later study no doubt. The tear in reality seals up, watching it, you realise that its not magic that’s required to open the portal, but magic is sealing it.

So using a Disjunction spell...damn, the Islas really have been studying how you fight. You’ll have to be more careful in future.

The various Other Isla’s are dead, the Automata are dust, and the monsters...are milling around, confused, some start fighting each other.

“Found it!” says Tania, taking a key from the remains of one of the automata. She starts freeing the prisoners, whilst at the same time healing the burns and rashes.
>>
Her sample preserved, Isla gives you a triumphant grin, before looking around. She sees all the dead version of her, and walks over to one, her grim fading and looking sombre.

You’ve got several immediate concerns: The monsters, the bodies of the Isla’s, and you’re in a big camp full of refuges, more guards will be on their way soon no doubt. You can’t see any more guards right now, all around you are tents and temporary wooden buildings, and a high wall of logs, the edge of the camp most likely.

Writing
>>
You look at the poor mutated monsters, who were once people. Now they seem mindless; concerned only with base urges such as hunting or killing.

They no longer look human, and there is no uniformity in their appearance: though all are brutish monsters, some have recognisably animal features, and some are simply unnatural.

Unnatural, yes, that’s the key. You are a Goddess of life, the natural world, and you cannot tolerate things like this.

You reach out with your deific powers instinctively, fixing what has been broken. As you watch the mutations and deformities of these creatures fade away, until only the original people they once were are left.

[Manifestation: Deific Restoration gained]

At the same time, from within the pool of foul alchemy, dozens of people emerge naked and shivering, tears running from their eyes from chemical burns. Not only did you undo the mutations of those who survived, you saved those who did not.

You are witness to tearful reunions as families reunite and people hug loved ones they thought had gone.

When they notice your mighty draconic form towering over them, some back away in fear, though Tania cajoles and encourages them, telling them you mean no harm.

Since your priestess has this in hand, you turn to Isla “Are you ok?” you ask quietly, or at least, quietly for a dragon.

Isla stares down at a face so like her, and yet so different, still and dead. Your restorative powers have not bought back her doubles from the grave.

“Does that really look like me?” she asks, staring down at not-Islas you fought.

“No” you say firmly “They’re not you.”

Isla is quiet for a long time then says “I want to take one back to study” she says “The rest...we’ll burn the rest.”

“Alright” you say calmly, it might take her a while to come to terms with this after all, for now she seems ok.
---
One short impromptu cremation later, you leave the freed refugees in Tania’s care, whilst you and Isla seek out the camp commander.
>>
Unfortunately it seems that he, and the soldiers guarding the camp, have fled. You find only a group of clerks. Talking to the head clerk you discover some sickening truths about this place.

These camps started as simply places to contain and shelter the refugees and keep them from flooding into nearby villages and towns. But several months back the *Sorceresses* turned up and through bribes and threats, took over. They turned the camps into places to create their monstrous creatures. And not just this camp, but dozens like it.

“And you knew?!” asks Isla, almost yelling. The clerk, a Mr Forey, cringes “I’m sorry Sorceres- er, Lady. I had no choice, the Commander was in charge, we was just following orders.”

You motion Isla back with a gesture, you’ve resumed your own form for convenience.

“He was just scared” you say to Isla. You ask Mr Forey a few more questions. It soon becomes clear that from the reports going from the camps to the capital, it is highly unlikely that the Nobles Council was entirely ignorant of the situation– the commanders of the camps were appointed by them, and a portion of the bribes paid went to nobles on the council.

You wonder if they knew what was happening to the Anrugal people, but then, it’s not like it was happening to their own citizens, you think bitterly.

Once you’ve finished talking to the clerk, you head outside, with Isla.

“What are we to do?” you ask, partly of Isla, partly of yourself

“I can set up a temporary circle” says Isla “We can get everyone in the camps to Oreia.”

“And Natolone?” you ask

“What about it?” asks Isla, giving you a grim look.

“Isla...” you start.

“No Sireyi” she says with determination “They did this to these people. And right now you don’t have a big enough army, or are you going to confront the Lord of Life on your own? Save who you can, don’t worry about the rest.”

“Set up the circle” you say to Isla “We’ll house them in Oreia temporarily, and then we’ll give them the choice of Oreia or Dalvin – if Sofia permits.”

“Right” says Isla, nodding. The two of you and Tania spend about three days visiting various refugee camps and setting up temporary teleportation circles, talking to refugees, healing and restoring those you can.

All across the camps, the same thing occurs. Shortly before you arrive the *Sorceresses* leave, taking their monsters with them, and killing or chasing off senior guards. Many times cryptic messages are left in the guards blood, smeared upon whatever surface is handy.

*You will fall to the Lord of Life*
*Surrender to Fate, it is inevitable*
*The Lords of the Elements Cometh*
*Mourn your Children, their Fates will soon be consumed.*
*Death Without End*
*One Desolation is not the End*
*Even Gods can die, beware those who killed their own*

And similar, ominous words. It seems they knew you were coming, somehow.

With that done, you thank Tania for all her hard work (causing her to blush and stammer), and bid her and your other priests look after the refugees, whilst you and Isla return to the Nobles Council.
---
Once again, getting an audience isn’t difficult. Getting them to listen to you however...

“Would you repeat that?” you ask. You can’t be sure, but it sounded like Baron High Moor just accused you of-

“Murdering guards and refugees!” the Baron says to the council “This Queen of a nation of demons comes to us under false pretences of friendship, only to slaughter the guards tasked with caring for the people of Anrugal, displaced by this terrible invasion. No doubt she plans to sacrifice the innocents she has captured for the amusement of her infernal subjects!”

You share a look with Isla, seems someone has been giving an interesting version of the truth. It’s no coincidence that *Baron High Moor* was mentioned by some of the clerks you spoke to in the camps.

“Lords and nobles all” you say “You have been misinformed, that is not the truth of what happened.”

You declaration meeting with a lot of shouting, quelled only by one elderly noble at a lectern slamming a small wooden hammer down in front of him, until they all shut up.

“Continue lady” he says stiffly.

You talk about what you saw there, about the appalling state of the refugees – little shelter, rotten food...and the pits of dark magic that turned them into monsters. You are careful not to use any of your supernatural persuasion techniques, for you are aware of several wizards in attendance, but you use every bit of your oratorical skill and sincerity to convince them of the truth.

Many nobles seem convinced by what you say, and Baron High Moor and his cronies are the target of many angry glares. You don’t mention him by name, but it seems many know he has been involved.

When you have finished, and take your seat, the Baron rises “I deserve a chance to answer these empty accusations!” he says, despite you not accusing him openly, only speaking of conditions in the camps.

“These lies are gross exaggerations of the truth, and are completely made up!” he declares.

“They can’t be both” whispers Isla to you, as the Baron continues.

“Our brothers and sisters from Anrugal were cared for” insists the Baron “given food and shelter whilst long-term accommodations could be found but instead this *monster*” he points at you “broke into the camps and used her hellish powers to slaughter the guards and abduct the refugees!”

There’s a lot of shouting. Although you have clearly won a lot to your way of thinking, Baron High Moor has allies in this chamber.

“You have no proof!” yells someone, it’s unclear which of you he is yelling at.

“Not true!” yells the Baron “I have witnesses!”

Your heart sinks; you know where this is going...
>>
The Baron produces several *witnesses* who claim to have been in the camps, despite looking better fed and healthier than any of those you rescued.

They tell near-identical stories of you turning up, killing the guards (who fought bravely and heroically against your army of ravenous demon whores)-

Isla makes a note of that “Jal’s been working on recruiting her own adventuring party” she explains “she’s looking for a name for them.”

And after your army had committed atrocities *too horrible to describe* the refugees where enslaved and taken too your hellish realm – which is apparently on fire, not covered in snow.

From the shouted arguments, its clear that these witnesses have swayed few, however...

The old noble leading the proceedings the *First Lord* you think his title is, stands and addressed you.

“Your Majesty” he says “you have made serious accusations against unknown parties,” he looks at Baron High Moor “and accusations have been levelled against you. The Law is quite clear in that we cannot detain a foreign ruler without their consent, so I must ask you: are you willing to voluntarily remain custody, whilst these accusations are considered before a court of law?”

“They couldn’t keep you even if their stupid laws would let them try” whispers Isla.

“If I don’t agree” you say to Isla “then we might never learn any more about how the Lord of Life corrupted these people, nor will they be punished.”

“Don’t put your sense of right and wrong above your family or your people” pleads Isla, as you stand to answer.

You have no fear of a law court, but it could take weeks before a trial, weeks you’d have to spend in custody. But are you, as a goddess, above these laws, or do even the ignorant and foolish deserve a chance to save themselves from what is to come?

“Your Majesty” the First Lord prompts again.

Not getting visited is perfectly normal for Paladin training, and Mili needs that training to deal with her powers.
So, yeah. We absolutely wanted that.
>>
>>40577879
>>40577887
And did Sireyi want her kid fighting the unfey and discovering evil conspiracies? Considering that she is forbidden from seeing her daughter for six months, is this something that you actually believe?
>>
>>40577887
Not there precisely, but we did need a place to teach her how to fight and use her paladin powers due to her fate to fight and slay Hanandrirac.
>>
>>40577923
Yes. She would be proud of her daughter.
>>
>>40577923
>Considering that she is forbidden from seeing her daughter for six months, is this something that you actually believe?
Again, thats perfectly normal for paladin training and Sireyi knew it was going to happen, since Mili always would have gone to some paladin school.

>And did Sireyi want her kid fighting the unfey and discovering evil conspiracies?
Probably. I mean, its Sireyi we're talking about. She'd rather evil is fought than that it isn't.
Its not like Sireyis own paladin training was all peaches and roses.
>>
“It sounds as though my participation in this is entirely voluntary” you say to the First Lord.

“It is Lady Valyenya” he responds.

“Then whilst I am willing to aid in any trial, I cannot remain in custody. I have a people to rule. The Lord of Life, who is the enemy of us all, and his servant the Killing Frost both need to be fought. I cannot waste the lives of people that depend on me by letting myself hindered from my duties. I cannot subject myself to your laws and do what I need to do."

As you sit, Isla takes your hand in hers and squeezes it tightly, giving you an encouraging smile.

“See, see?” yells Baron High Moor “one rule for mortals, and one for demons!”

“Sit down!” says the First Lord sternly “by the law, no ruler of a foreign nation can be arrested, and you know why!”

“So demons count as people now?” ask one of the Barons cronies.

You and Isla leave shortly afterwards; nothing of substance gets discussed whilst you are there.

And that’s it for the main quest. Please stand by for Mini Palading.

Are you seriously trying to claim Sireyi would have preferred the unfey to keep eating children?

And of course being a paladin, a servant to the good gods, can only be taught in Dormer, by the asshole trainers that worship demons, try to assassinate their students 47-style, and generally are incompetent and malevolent assholes. And not by, oh I don't know, other paladins, that we have, angels, that we have, or a literal god, that we are?

>And of course being a paladin, a servant to the good gods, can only be taught in Dormer, by the asshole trainers that worship demons, try to assassinate their students 47-style, and generally are incompetent and malevolent assholes.
All the better to understand what it means to be a paladin, to see how deep such corruption can go.
A paladin that has seen all these things is definitly far better equipped to fight evil than one that only was trained surrounded by sunshine and happyness.
So again, yes, it is actually better she is trained there.

>And not by, oh I don't know, other paladins, that we have, angels, that we have, or a literal god, that we are?
We only have two paladins, neither of which would be capable of teaching Mili much about being a paladin. Our angels are not paladins, and Sireyi is way too busy to teach her properly.
>>
>>40578012
You have literally no argument. Evidently Sireyi and Sofia believe exactly that, thats why Mili still goes to that school.
Mili is not there under force or as collateral of anything. She is there because her mothers want it so.
>>
You are Milerna Jalweyen, angel-blooded and born paladin of Konig. You are 9 years old, and are attending paladin training at a church of Konig school.

http://pastebin.com/RE8br4uf

You wake up in a bed, in Oreia you think, no wait, this looks nothing like your bedroom in Oreia.

You’re fully healthy, no cuts or anything. But you’re alone. You climb out of bed and go wandering around in your nightshirt, it’s daylight, you shouldn’t be asleep and-

The patter of running feet is your only warning.

“Oooof!” you exclaim, the air is knocked out of you as three small girls run into you and try and hug you at once. You tumble down, with all three atop you, your sisters: Neyma, Salicia and Fulima

“Mili! Mili!” they chant “You’re ok!”

“Get off, brats!” you grouse at them. Your little sisters are so annoying!

They climb off you stand there as you get up. “Where are we?” you ask as you stand, none of this place looks familiar.

“Snake River Castle!” says Fulima “It’s huge and its got orcs and beastmints an stuff!”

“Beast-men!” insists Salicia, her wings twitching as she rolls her eyes at her sister.

“How are you feeling big sister?” asks Neyma, the slightly less annoying little sister.

“Confused” you say “what happened, where’s Chesi?”

They all exchange looks.

“Chesi is fine” says Neyma “As for what happened-”

“There was a Rack-Sassy!” blurts out Salicia “and some undeads and explosions and-”

“Mama Reyi is talking to Aunt Bluey!” says Fulima “I bet she wants to see you.”

“Or we can go see your friends” suggests Neyma.

Wait, *we*? What *we*?

So, let me get this shit straight. What you're saying is that a child growing up in a hostile environment, where all the role-models are evil assholes, and good paladin-like behavior saving people from monsters, telling the truth, helping the weak and all the shit we've been going is punished, while being a sleazy bastard is rewarded, is going to have a better chance at growing into an upstanding citizen because of it? Cause that sound fucking dumb as shit.

Clearly it works for Mili, I can't see any way in which it has impacted her character for the worse.
Quite the opposite, it allowed her virtues to shine all the more.

>Well if only you are trying to claim she wanted her daughter to get eaten.
I'm claiming she would want the innocent protected, and is very proud of her daughter for doing so.
If Mili wouldn't have been there, then Sera would have died and the Unfey would have terrorized the region for who knows how long.
Clearly Mili having been there was for the better.
>>

>>40578234
Sireyi doesn't have a harem though.
>>
>>40578012
>other paladins, that we have
Who? Isla isn't very experienced in regards to her paladin abilities, Sofia's powers are almost entirely instinctive and the paladin with the Belt Notchers was relatively new to being a paladin.

>>40578057
>Our angels are not paladins
It's pretty likely that at least some of them have paladin abilities, the Archons in particular, and angels tend to understand divine energy and it's uses much better than mortals anyway.

I don't think Milerna is actually being taught how to use her paladin abilities at school beyond the theories of divine energy (which angels would know better anyway), since she's at the school for people who want to *become* paladins, rather than the school for how to use one's paladin abilities.

It's still a useful knowledge base though, which is getting an unfortunate amount of on-the-job experience due to Milerna being in the most corrupt school in the country.

>>40578104
It was agreed that she be sent there so Konig would tell the nobility to fuck off and let Sireyi be a demon queen and continue her relationship with Sofia, IIRC, so technically she was collateral, even if it aligned with something we needed for her anyway.

>>40578191
She's been responding to it pretty well so far, not standing for injustice and continuing to do good in spite of being punished for it. If anything, I'm worried she'll wind up even more of a rebel against corrupt authority than her dad-mom.

I can't tell what sleazy bastard you're talking about. The bad people have been getting punished.
>>
>>40578104

She's there because it let muma Sofia keep her home and people from being given to some random idiot.

>It was agreed that she be sent there so Konig would tell the nobility to fuck off and let Sireyi be a demon queen and continue her relationship with Sofia, IIRC, so technically she was collateral
Collateral would imply something would happen to Mili if we would not keep our ends of the bargain. Which is not the case. If anything, Sofias rulership of Dalvin is the collateral, because its what we would risk by breaking the agreement.
Konig would not get to keep Mili, which is what a collateral means.

Not to mention Konig HAS broken his side of the agreement and Sofia and Sireyi could get Mili out of there anytime they wanted because of that, as per our conditions.

>Clearly it works for Mili, I can't see any way in which it has impacted her character for the worse.
>Quite the opposite, it allowed her virtues to shine all the more.
Can you guess why? I'm gonna give you a hint: she's a PC. She's played by us, all her emotions and reactions are chosen by us. An we want her to be shiny and good and perfect in every way. We don't want her twisted and evil. A real eight y.o. child would have come out of that school so fucking corrupt that any sensible paladin would preform what is called a "smite-on-sight". Now, I'm exaggerating, but I hope you see the point.

>I'm claiming she would want the innocent protected, and is very proud of her daughter for doing so.
>If Mili wouldn't have been there, then Sera would have died and the Unfey would have terrorized the region for who knows how long.
>Clearly Mili having been there was for the better.
You're right, all's well that ends well, but I think it's not the perfect solution. Instead of children and a bunch of goblins with sticks and stones, these monsters should be dealt with by trained professionals.
>>
>>40578271
>and the paladin with the Belt Notchers
There was no Paladin with the Belt Notchers, she was a priest.

>>40578431

Because she has been raised well by four wonderful and very good people, one of which has literally supernatural skill at properly raising children.

Yeah, surely the half of the yxear she spends with her paragon of goodness of mother and the 8 years she raised her mean nothing by comparison. Makes sense.

>I don't mean it instantly, but over time. If you had to choose between homeschooling your kid and sending him to a soviet gulag, would you hand your child to mr. Stalin? Again, exaggerating.
You realise your exegerrating makes your 'argument' worthless? Because its not even remotly comparable?
Also homeschooling is illegal in most sane countries for a reason.

“I want to check on Chesi first” you say “and everyone else, before I do and see Mama Sireyi.”

As you head off in the direction of Neymas pointing finger, you are aware of a certain wide-eyed, silent pleading.

“You can come too, I guess” you say grudgingly “if you behave.”

“We’re playing with the big kids!” yells Fulima excitedly
---
You find Chesi, Thomas, Michael, Sera, Jenny and Gilly in the infirmary “for observation” says the big green-skinned lady in charge.

Still, you and the Three Annoyances are allowed in to see your friends. All of them are in their bed, wearing their nightclothes, even though its daytime, and they all look bored.

“Chesi!” you yell, happy to see she’s ok, as you run towards her

“Mili!” yells Chesi excitedly, getting out of bed to meet you partway.

“Mili!” yells Thomas “Good to see you!”

“Thomas” you say with a nod, as Chesi hugs you almost painfully tight.

“Milli!”

“Gilly!” you respond

“Milli!”

“Michael!”

“I’m Fulima!” says Fulima.
---
The next several minutes are spent checking that everyone is ok, and introducing your little sisters to your friends. And then figuring out what happened.

“I got hit in the head!” says Thomas proudly, the stained bandage around his head testament to that fact. “But I got up and charged at the monsters anyway!”

“Only to be scooped up by a guard” says Gilly with a smirk

“Wow!” says Fulima, sat on Thomas’ bed “That was really brave of you” she adds, her eyes wide.

“I got to hold a sword” says Michael “Except I knew the monsters were really tough so I was giving orders to the skellingtons on how to beat them, and they listened!”

Salicia is sat on Michaels bed “that sounds really smart” she says admiringly

“I just hid” says Jenny, shrinking a little.

“Don’t be so silly” says Gilly to Jenny “after it was over you were healing people – that’s really useful!”
>>
“I guess” says Jenny, blushing and smiling “But really it was Sera who was the best?”

“What did you do?” you ask Sera. Sera looks embarrassed “I uh, I used my powers to protect some of the guards who got hurt” she says “The tiger-monsters can’t break through my shield.”

Neyma is sat on her bed, her eyes wide “can you teach me?” she squeaks.

“I dunno” answers Sera honestly, but seeing Neyma about to burst into tears she pats her head and says “but we can try.”

You also hear Sera whisper to Gilly “One of the guards I saved said she has a daughter my age and was I promised to anyone?” Sera sounds shocked and...some other emotions you aren’t sure of “A succubus asked that!” Sera says, again sounding shocked.

You’re sat on Chesi’s bed with her as you all talk about the battle you were in. For once the three annoyances are actually quiet!

Maybe your friends have special little-sister controlling powers?

Eventually the big green orc lady comes back and says you’ve visited for long enough.

“Five more minutes, please?!” begs Fulima, clinging to Thomas’ arm.

The green lady grins a grin full of teeth “Of course” she says, taking out a big glass bottle and some spoons “but is medicine time, make them better, make you grow up big and strong with muscles yes, stay if you want.”

Your friends all groan, apparently they’ve tried the medicine before.

“Bleh!” says Salicia, abandoning Michael and heading for the door.

The green lady looks at you, and shakes the bottle at you, encouragingly.

What do you do?

“Uh, I think I hear my mama calling me” you say “I don’t want to get in trouble” you say as you back slowly out of the door, heading after your little sisters.

“I hear nothing” says the big green lady, tilting her head “maybe you is hearing things, yes? Medicine will fix you” she advances on you with that grin full of big teeth. She opens the bottle and you get a whiff of the medicine.

YUCK!!!

“My Mama has magic powers!” you yell as you flee “If she wants, only I can hear her!”

You and the three pests flee until the foul-smelling medicine is far behind.

“Ok” you say, a little shaky on your legs “Where did you say Mama Sireyi was?”

“On the balcony” says Salicia “This way.”
---
You and your sisters head up to the balcony. Where you can see Mama Sireyi, and Aunty Empress. They both look a little mad, and on the way up you heard raised voices. Maybe now is a bad time?

“Mili!” says Mama Sireyi, hurrying over to you and hugging you tightly, her warm wings wrapping around you “what are you doing out of bed, its freezing out here, you’ll catch cold!”

Or maybe not.

“I came looking for you Mama” you say truthfully.

“Whose my favourite nieces!” yells Aunty Empress, scooping up all three of the Annoyances using her arms and wings, sheltering them from the cold winds this high up. All three of your sisters are laughing and shouting.

You cast a glance over the parapet, wow, you’re really high up, like, maybe there are clouds up here?

Down below there’s an army camped, building stuff.

Your Mama drags your attention away from the view “How’re you feeling Mili?” she asks, her face inches from yours, as her wings shield you from the cold and wind. You feel the warm fuzzy feeling of your Mamas powers as she uses her magic to check your health.

I think it is. Mili knows Sireyi can check her health with magic, there is no way to actually fool her with it, so she will understand it as the request to be pampered that it is.

Mili wouldn't make that joke with Sofia, of course.
>>
>>40579557
Is there at least a simple precedent of her making a "joke" like this though? I can't think of one, at least since she enrolled in Konig's school.
>>
>>40579690
>Is there at least a simple precedent of her making a "joke" like this though?
She hasn't interacted with her parents until now, so how would there be a precedent? It never came up before.
>>
“I’m really sick Mama” you say, coughing “I need more rest and ice-cream”

You Mama sakes and smiles, like she’s trying not to laugh “I’ll see if we can find you some ice-cream” she says “to help you recover.”

Everything is going according to plan and your mama doesn’t suspect a thing!

To keep her mind away from any suspicions that you could be fibbing, you concoct a cunning plan: ask her about other stuff!

“I summoned some undeads” you say to your Mama “was that bad?”

“Now Mili” says your Mama “what did I tell you about magic?”

“There’s no bad magic” you say “just bad people, and dangerous magic, but mama, was that *bad*?”

“Of course not” you Mama says quietly, the two of you all along inside her wings “in fact I was so proud of you I couldn’t fly straight.”

“Really?” you ask, feeling yourself swell up with happiness, your Mama is proud of you!

“Really” she says “You get necromancy spells and the first thing you do with them is save dozens of lives” she kisses you on the forehead “I will never forget seeing that Mili, never.”

Excellent, Plan Big Bowl of Ice-cream is a go!

“So uh, what happened to the undeads?” you ask your mama.

Mama Sireyi looks thoughtful “They went back into the ground, but...well, I’m going to have a friend take a look at you, she’s called Aboswe, there’s a weird arcane link between you and the necroforms of the orcs you animated...”

Your brain tunes out as Mama Sireyi uses lots of nerd words.

You wake up when you realise she’s talking about the tiger-man

“He hurt Chesi!” you say indignantly “I hope you punished him!”

“Oh yes” says your Mama, her eyes looking away “very much so.” She looks...sad.

Oh now you remember “He was after Thomas” you say “why?”

Your Mama looks thoughtful “Do you know of Thomas’ ancestor, Cassitery?” she asks.

“He has a castle named after him” you say, proud that you remembered that.
>>
“Yes” agrees your Mama “He had quite a colourful life, one of the things he did was imprison several very old, powerful Rakshasa, and it seems they have a grudge against his family because of that. Their minions have plagued Thomas’ family for some time, but now the Rakshasa themselves are getting free, I’ll need to deal with that, when I have time.”

“What are Raksassers?” you ask

“A type of monster” says your Mama “powerful mages, shapeshifters, sneaky and manipulative. They might still try to hurt Thomas.”

Well, not with you and Chesi looking out for him they won’t! You decide.

Then something Aunty Empress is saying catches you attention.

“Airship?” you ask, gasping in joy. Your Mama’s wings lower and the freezing air hits your face, you shiver a bit.

“Yes” says your Aunt, still holding your three little sisters “The Thunderstriker is due to stop here in a half-hour. It’s on a tour of the Empire. I was hoping” she says with a look at your Mama “To take the triplets on board for a bit?”

As the triplets beg your mama to let them go, she gives a brief nod and then says “but Mili here is still sick, I understand lots of bed rest and ice-cream is required.”

Oh no! Airship, or ice-cream?

What do you do?

Second.

So how is Sofia's mental health doing? I mean, aside from learning about all the danger Mili's been in at school, Mili's also read the necromancy tome and has now been hurt in a Rakshasa attack, with a chance of further attacks.
>>
>>40579889
>Then just put the bed ON the airship, duh!
Where is the childish ingenuity now?

I think Sireyi and Jal make sure that she doesn't have any meltdowns.
Frankly, Milis life is still better than hers was at that age, so its not all terrible.

“Airships have lots of room” you say “so we can bring the ice-cream with us, and if I have my friends to look after me too, then I’ll be fine. Also Airship fly up high and fresh air is good for sick people.”

Mama Sireyi gives you rather funny look, but she’s smiling.

Aunty Empress’ face has gone a deeper shade of blue, and she has a hand over her mouth “Yup” she gasps out “she’s your daughter Sireyi, no doubt of that.”

What a silly thing to say. Why would that be in doubt?

“All good points” says your Mama “But it gets cold up that high, I think some warm clothes are called for.”
---
“Squashiest Paladin ever!” says Thomas, poking you in the stomach with his finger, which almost disappears

Apparently *warm clothes* means *so many layers you’re almost round*.

“Shut up!” you say, taking a swing at Thomas, but missing due to your arms being unable to move properly in this many layers.

You notice your friends only have a few extra layers on. Maybe telling fibs about being sick was a bad idea?

No, it was the right choice, you get to go on an airship *and* have ice-cream!

You and your friends have just boarded, and Vivi is with you too. And the Three Annoyances.

You are all stood at the big glass window, watching the fortress move around the airship as it flies, turning until its pointed in the right direction. Mama Sireyi and Aunty Empress are with you too.

Then you hear a *very* familiar voice behind you.

“Who wants to take a turn steering the airship?” asks your Mama, Sofia.

All of your friends yell out they want a turn, as do your siblings.

It takes you a few moments to turn around in your layers and layers of clothing. What is your Mama Sofia doing here, she had to stay back in Dalvin and-

Oh.
>>
When you turn around. It’s not Mama Sofia, it’s...the other one.

General Sofia is surrounded by your friends and siblings as they all demand to go first. Then she looks over at you.

“Would you like to steer an airship Mili?” she asks. She looks happy and sad at the same time.

You don’t know what to make of *General* Sofia. You’ve been told that her and Aunty Empress were made from parts of your Mama’s but...Aunty Empress is obviously not Mama Sireyi – she has blue skin for starters, and horns, and her wings are different.

But General Sofia...she looks just like your Mama, and that’s kinda weird...

You’ve only met her a few times, she’s sort of a stranger to you.

Do you want to steer an airship?
>Yes/No

And what do you call her?

>No name, yes/no is all you say
>General
>Mama

“Yes!” you say, airship steering! You rush forwards to join the crowd near General Sofia.

Then you remember, your mama is *very* strict about manners and stuff.

“I mean, yes please Mama Sofia” you say. Then your brain catches up with your mouth. Wait, you’re not talking to *Mama* Sofia, you’re talking to *General* Sofia.

Before you can correct yourself, she grabs you in a hug and presses her cheek to yours. You hug her back and her cheek is all wet when she lets you go. You realise that General Sofia is crying.

“It’s ok” you say “I won’t crash the ship; you don’t have to be scared.”

This just causes General Sofia to choke out a laugh and hug you again “Of course not Mili” she says, hugging you “Of course not my sweet one.”

That’s weird, usually its Mama Sofia who calls you that, except she used to call you *sweet one* when you were much younger, like 4 or something.
---
You take your turn at the airship wheel with your friends and siblings. True to your word, you don’t crash into anything, except some clouds. Which doesn’t count.

It’s fun turning the wheel, but the airship takes ages to turn, so eventually you get bored and fiddle with some of the other levels and switches. And then one breaks, which is all Fulimas fault. And then the orc captain gets mad and shouty.

Aunty Empress takes you up to the cup o lar on the top of the airship, what is lar anyway? And it’s not shaped like a cup either.

Thomas comes with you, because he’s had his turn at the wheel too, and he wants to see the mountains go past.

The three of you are standing right at the top of the Airship, when there’s a message on the speaking-tube-thingy and Aunty Empress has to turn away to talk.
>>
And when she does...

“Thomas!” you hiss furiously, as he climbs out of the not-a-cup–at-all and onto the big bag of air that helps keep the airship up, clinging to the ropes as he climbs to the front.

“Get back here!” you hiss.

“I want to see the view from the front” he says to you over his shoulder.

Aaaargh! Your friends!

What do you do?

>Go after him
>Ignore him, his fault if he falls
>Tell Aunty Empress on him
>Other (what?)

It can happen if we are already going and yelling it as a notification.

It is a rash decision and then you are telling Aunt by yelling that you are going after Thomas.
>>
“Aunty, Aunty Empress!” you say, standing next to your aunty and hopping from one foot to another.

“Mili I’m talking to the captain” says your blue aunt “wait until I’ve finished, please”

“Thomas is climbing!” you say, crawling out of the cup o lar “I’m going to go get him”

Your aunts head quickly whips around to see you crawling atop the air bag after Thomas.

“Mili! Thomas!” She yells “Stay there!”

“I want to see the view” explains Thomas. He’s so naughty, breaking rules like that.

In moments both you and Thomas are plunked from the ropes and held securely in your aunts arms as she glides over the top of the airship.

“Woooh, yeah!” yells Thomas “go faster!”

“Not if you can’t behave” says your aunt, returning you both to the cup-thingy, and keeping a close watch on both of you from then on.

It's interesting that some of those seem more like legitimate warnings rather than just trying to be ominous bullshit, or they're being ominous bullshit but also hinting strongly that a certain foe would return. Maybe there's a part of Simulacrum Isla that still wants to try and help Sireyi?

>>40581859
Sireyi has resurrected Aboswe's sister who was trapped in the gem by this point, right? How happy and/or grateful was Aboswe after that?
>>
>>40582368
>Maybe there's a part of Simulacrum Isla that still wants to try and help Sireyi?
We have a dead Simulacrum as a starting point, all we need to do is port her to us and hit her with some type of Redeeming Touch that reminds her of who she was and use that one to infect the others with our love. We've pulled of worse odds.
>>
>>40582538
>all we need to do is port her to us
And break through the Lords of Lifes defenses to do so, not good odds considering it slaughters deities by the scores.
>and hit her with some type of Redeeming Touch
In combination with Deific Purification, this might actually be one of the few cases where Redeeming Touch might actually help.
>and use that one to infect the others with our love
Thats not how it works.

I'm also fairly sure the other ones are far more changed from the baseline Isla than the original Simulacrum is, I doubt there is anything really Isla left in them.
>>
>>40582607

I've been reading up on the Realms and Oreia is the only one with less than 100% approval, that seems wrong.
>>
>>40583547
Trade is a big part of approval and I prioritized what anons wanted over it since it doesn't make a huge impact in our Revenue and we didn't need the Approval that badly.
