You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

After returning to the watchtower, you and your honor guard immediately started training in preparation for the coming Crusade. First was combat training, in which you practiced fighting together as a team, and then came arcane training, in which you learned two new spells. Beyond that, you also learned that Daniel used to be a duelist before he was a priest, and had a chance to scare the shit out of Erika for some laughs.

Time skip! The month of training passes faster than you'd imagined. It turns out Leonard wasn't joking about the first day of training being an easy day, as the next day and every day after, more people start joining the enemy team until it becomes impossible to fight them all off, forcing you all to work together and focus on beating the team leader before the larger enemy team overwhelms you. More than once you leave training with some new bruises. Arcane training is difficult in a completely different way, as Daniel continues to educate you on the basics of arcane lore and you struggle to keep yourself awake. Reinhardt manages to learn a few spells in this time as well, though he's still a novice by far. Still, at least he's doing better than Erika, who over the course of a whole month only progresses to the point where her Illumination spells don't snuff themselves out after a few seconds.

Beyond training though, what have you been doing with your free time?

But there was this one night where we convinced (with some difficulty) Galadriel to drink with us in sword plane, showing her there is a huge difference between pleasantly buzzed with a conversation partner and wasted on Black Whiskey without any control over the matter.

Its like Sieg said to Erika. 'If we are going to be working together, we might as well drink together too.' Lord knows they are going to need it when the Crusades really kick off.

One of the things you've been doing with your free time is studying history and geography, specifically that relating to the Crusades. The geography in Alastor's domain, as far as the crusaders have seen, is mostly hilly terrain, which steadily progresses to full-on mountains the further you go. The largest mountain is an active volcano, upon which Alastor's fortress sits. Curiously, it seems those mountains weren't there before the demons invaded in the Great Crusade, leading people to think Alastor altered the terrain somehow. Only a handful of Crusades have actually managed to make it as far as Alastor's fortress, one of them being Andras' crusade.

Balaam's domain by contrast has a forest between the kingdom of Galloway and the Lord of Greed's domain. Beyond the forest, the land apparently clears out into flat grasslands. Balaam's fortress has only been reached by two crusades, and is reportedly built of solid gold and decorated with precious gems, though the accuracy of this belief is up for debate as the last crusade to reach this fortress was 1150 years ago, and it was not uncommon for soldiers to vastly exaggerate stories of what they'd seen in the crusades. Other stories claim the Lord of Greed's fortress is made of black obsidian, shining platinum, and one even claims that the fortress stood on the back of a giant turtle, with a body of gold and eyes made of gleaming gems.

Eligos' domain shares it's border with Belmore. A swamp separates the two territories and there are many superstitions surrounding this swamp. Little is known of what lies beyond this swamp except that it is bitterly cold all year round. Only one crusade has reached the fortress of Eligos, and none of the crusaders that went there ever returned.
>>
>>40565180
No Crusades beyond the first have ever made it very far into Lilith's domain, and back then it was not yet her domain. However, those few crusades that advanced far enough into Alastor or Balaam's domain claim that on the rare skirmishes that took place there, the sky was so dark they could not see the sun, moon, or stars.

Only the first crusade managed to reach the Fortress of Malaphas, and so many myths surround this place that the truth cannot be found.

Outside of geography and history, you have also been paying close attention to Daniel's lessons, even doing some practice on the side when you can. You've even managed to learn a few new enchantments as well.

Choose 1 of the following
>Elemental bolt - Summon the elements to attack your enemies at range. Allows you to throw lightning bolt, fireballs, sharp icicles, and small boulders.
>Force Sphere - Create a protective barrier around yourself or an ally for a time or until destroyed.

However, not all of your free time was spent learning. Once day, while Reinhardt was telling everyone a funny story about one time when he showed up to his guard shift drunk, an idea occurred to you. The last time you went drinking, Galadriel started to get drunk off of your drinking. Every time you've visited her through meditation, you've had all your carried gear with you. Thus, would it be possible to take drinks with you to Galadriel's plane? With this in mind, you managed to secure a small keg from Gunther and return to your room. Holding onto the small keg and two mugs, you start meditating...

--------
A gust of wind blows through your hair and you open your eyes to find yourself sitting on the clouds in front of Galadriel's mountain peak again. The crescent moon shines overhead, just as it is in real life. More importantly, the keg has followed you into Galadriel's plane, along with the two mugs you brought along.

"Greetings Siegfried." Galadriel welcomes you, unaware of what you're planning. "Come to train again?"

>"Actually, I had something different in mind. Look what I've brought."
>"Maybe later. Right now though, I thought maybe we could share a drink together."

Depends on the situation. If being able to see/hear/smell better should make an action easier, then the DC will be lower. Otherwise, it can also allow you to do things you wouldn't normally be able to do, like track something via smell, or be able to tell an invisible enemy's position via hearing.
>>
>>40565651
Hey speaking of mechanics. You know all that weapon training we did that got us +15/+20 modifiers back when we did d100s. Is that going to transfer into the combat chain system? Like maybe a +2 or 3 on rolls.

Wink wink, nudge nudge.

It plays in, though not in the sense of bonuses to rolls. Instead, I'm accounting for all the training you've done by adjusting DCs based on it. For example, if you were to fight an Imp in a straight fight, you'd probably auto-succeed in kicking his ass. I'm also lowering DCs for fighting opponents you've fought against before, so for example the DC for fighting a demon you've fought before, either in Galadriel's plane or in a real fight, would be lower because you have experience fighting that type of enemy.

I'm probably not doing a good job explaining this, but I am accounting for all the training you guys have done, yeah.

"Maybe later. Right now though, I actually thought I'd train you."

Galadriel regards you curiously. "In what?"

"In drinking."

"..."

"Trust me, this'll be a lot different than last time."

"Siegfried, I'm not sure I want to participate in that again."

"Well why not? It's not like I brought Black Mountain Whiskey again, it's just normal ale."

"Because I do not see any merit in it. It causes mortals to act peculiar, and makes them sick the next morning. To me, it seems as logical as drinking poison."

"Come on, if you never try it for yourself, then you'll never understand why we drink it despite all that. Here, just try it this once, please?"

"...I will try, but only a little. I do not want a repeat of what happened in Morsland."

"It won't be like that, I swear."

Galadriel spreads her six wings out and glides over to where you're sitting. You fill both of the mugs, and pass one of them over to her. She removes her helmet and looks into her mug. The expression on her face says she really doesn't want to drink it. Regardless, she takes a tentative sip from her mug anyways.

"What do you think?"

"It burns my throat just slightly. It is not particularly flavorful either."

"It's ale Galadriel, not fine wine. It's not supposed to taste flavorful."

"Then I do not see anything enjoyable in drinking this."

"Just take a few more sips, you'll start understanding eventually."

She does as you say, drinking more from her mug. In contrast to Erika, you don't have to warn her not to drink so fast. By contrast, she drinks slowly and hesitantly, as though she's afraid of drinking it. Eventually though, she completely empties her mug, and you fill it up for her a seconds time.

"Now what do you think?"

"I do not hate it. I do not particularly enjoy it either, but it is not as bad as I originally thought."

You both drink a bit more, chatting about small things. You talk about your friends, the people you've met in the tower, what you're expecting from your trip to Galloway and Belmore, amongst a few other things. You're definitely feeling buzzed, but not black-out drunk like you were back in Morsland. You think Galadriel is starting to get buzzed too, though she's not acting like she did back then. Maybe there's a difference between drinking directly and getting the second-hand effects from you drinking?

"You know, I don't think you've ever mentioned the Void all that much, what's it like?" You ask at some point.

"Empty."

"That's it?"

"Not quite. The Void is the source of all Aether. It flows through the emptiness of the Void without direction, flowing where it chooses for all eternity. The aether is invisible to mortals though, so to you it would just look like an endless black void, hence the name."

"And it doesn't look that way to you?"

"My kind are especially attuned to the Aether, as are the demons. The more powerful amongst us can see the Aether, ebbing and flowing all around us in the Void. On earth, the aether takes solid forming, becoming everything from the rocks and trees to the mortals and beasts which inhabit the earth."

"So what do angels do in the Void exactly."

"Nothing. We train, we talk, we watch the earth. Back in the day, before demons invaded earth, we would regularly leave the Void to visit earth, to guide mortals and watch over them. Since Aurelius fell and Rathanael took his place though, no one is allowed to return to earth."
>>
>>40566578
"So everyone's just sitting there doing nothing? Sounds unbearably boring."

"And extremely frustrating, as they witness your kind fighting the forces of Malaphas while unable to do anything. I was still on earth when Rathanael recalled us to the Void, and that was when I sealed myself within my own sword, the one you're carrying right now. Others would join me if they could, but Rathanael forbids it. I'm sure that even now he watches me, waiting for any excuse to forcibly recall me back to the Void as well."

"Sounds like Rathanael's kind of an asshole."

"He is my king, I should not speak of him in such a way...but yes, he is indeed an asshole, even if his intention is to protect his people."

You can't help but laugh. That's the first time you've ever heard Galadriel swear at anyone. If even she calls him that, you imagine it must be true.

You both drink a little more, until the keg is empty. It wasn't a lot of ale, especially not split between you, but it was enough to get pretty buzzed. Now it's starting to become clear that even Galadriel is buzzed as well.

"So, any amusing stories from when you were younger?" You ask after finishing your last mug of ale. "I mean, you already know all about me. 'Foolish, cowardly, slothful, and by no means a champion worthy of my sacred blade.'" You say this with a cheeky grin, trying your best to mimic Galadriel's voice.

Galadriel actually laughs. "Well after a quick look at your memories, that's what I saw."

"Hey, I didn't do anything that bad."

"What about the time you and Reinhardt bought a bottle of dwarven itching powder when you were 13 and your sister started dating Fredrick? I distinctly remember seeing you two drop the entire bottle in his-"

"Ah, let's not go into that story. Besides, I asked you."

Galadriel thinks for a moment. "Hm...There was the time when I was hardly 100 years old, when I challenged my commander, Zaphiel, to a race."

"You had a commander?"

"He was the leader of my circle, the first of the Circle of Righteousness. A Seraph, like me. This was before the Great Crusade and I was quite young at the time, so I was quite proud at the time. Zaphiel agreed, and me made a wager. Whoever could fly from the southern tip of Iseria to the northern tip of Belmore, though at the time they were not called that, would have to return to the Void and give King Aurelius our circle's report."

"That sounds like a pretty weak bet."

"You must understand, King Aurelius was famous for being far too talkative. He was friendly, never spoke down to those under him, but once he started talking there was no way to make him stop. I'd heard that one time he managed to speak with someone from the circle of Joy for an entire century without stopping."
>>
>>40567298
"...Aureus damn, what could he possibly talk about for a whole century?"

"Anything. An old joke amongst angels was that if Aurelius started talking about something, it would die and be reborn by the time he stopped. But anyways, Zaphiel agreed and we flew off. I was originally scheduled to give the report to Aurelius, so I was quite eager to win. I flew so fast trees below me would lose their leaves. In only one day, I flew from the southern tip of Iseria to the northern tip of Belmore, and in one more day I made it back. I thought for sure I'd won and approached Zaphiel with a smug smile. It was then I saw that Zaphiel was not alone."

"Who was with him?"

"King Aurelius. Zaphiel had not even bothered to race after me. Instead, he went to Aurelius and told him I had challenged him to a race, and invited him to see how long it took me to come back. I still remember the start of that conversation. 'Ah, Galadriel, you've grown so fast so quickly. I remember when you were just 50 years old and still learning to fly. Why when I was your age...' I interrupted him after an hour and started to tell him that Zaphiel had his report, but when I turned to look at him I saw that Zaphiel had left me a long time ago. 'Ah, yes, your circle's report. I had almost forgotten. Zaphiel said you would have it for me as soon as you returned. But first, I must say, this reminds me of one time when...' I didn't get him to stop and let me give the report for ten years. He still didn't finish talking for another five years, when some other poor sould came to give their report and I snuck away."

"Zaphiel sounds like a smart guy."

Galadriel smiles and nods. "Indeed. I was frustrated with him for quite a while because of that, but I got over it. He was a respectable and well-liked commander, I'm sure he'd be down here with us if Rathanael would allow him."

Before you know it, your month of training has ended. You've learned a lot during this time, as did your honor guard. Reinhardt has improved a lot since joining, and you feel you've grown stronger as well. Right now, Laurentius is going over a world map, explaining to you and your honor guard where you'll be going and what you'll be doing.

"Your first stop is the Red Watchtower in Galloway. They'll welcome you there and discuss where to go from there. After you've finished in Galloway, you'll head to the Grey Watchtower in Belmore. Again, the Knight-Captain there will know where you should go to rally the kingdom's support."

"What about right here? I'm not rallying support in Iseria?"

"I'll handle that myself. Word is already spreading about you here after the invasion at Morsland, I just need to speak with the king and secure his support for the Crusade."

"Are we going alone?"

"I'll be sending a squad to go with you as escorts. I can't spare too many right now though, we need to maintain watch over the border while you're gone in case there's another invasion force. Your honor guard will be with you, the squad will be with you, that should be enough to keep you safe from bandits. Just stick to the roads, that should help you avoid running into monsters."

"When do we leave?"

"Today, I've already told the Red Watchtower to expect you. If you have any other questions about your trip, ask them now."

Only took me about 30 minutes, which is actually pretty fast all things considered.

Anything we should avoid doing or saying?
Anything we should ignore/ know about?
How are the politics concerning the nobles over there?
>>

Did you forget prompts or is it an open ended Q&A?

What, forget the prompts? No, never, I'm far too profession to forget those! Yeah I totally forgot.

Oh in that case pretty much >>40567709 this.

"I am assuming my charming snark isn't really Champion material, at least for first impressions."

1.Anything to look out for?
2.Anything we should know?
3.Anything you recommend us to do?
4.Anything we should be worried about?

Sparks, would it be possible to add a Holy enchantment to our glove/shield? Added protection against demons and the glove could be used to surprise and detect demons
>>
>>40567674
If I could ask you something unrelated to my trip sir, did you know Andras before he fell? Does the name Alicia mean anything to you?
>>
>>40567793
>>Question? (Specify)
How likely is it that there's going to be a ball-type situation, because I'm not sure how well I can dance.
>>
>>40567864
>Holy enchantment (Weapon does increased damage to demons, though the damage is not permanent like Galadriel. Has no effect on non-demonic targets)

Weapons only, but we can put Ward on our shield which is good all around.
>>
>>40567922
>>40567793
Yeah I suppose this would be a good time to mention it since we won't be seeing him for awhile, might as well let Galadriel know that we have had a double feature of Andras in our dreams while we are at it.

"What sort of stuff should I avoid doing or saying? I'm assuming my charming snark isn't really Champion material, at least for first impressions."

"Just be on your best behavior, you don't have to be a saint, but don't give the people of the tower a bad impression. You're their hope for a successful Crusade, after all, they need to believe in you."

"Adding to that, be careful what you say to any nobles. Some houses like to send their children to serve at the tower for a few years, so just be careful not to upset them if you can avoid it." Roland adds. "And as for that 'charming snark' of yours, it depends. Some might like to see their Champion has a sense of humor, just be careful where and when you use it. I'd hate for them to think you're as foul as Reinhardt."

"Yeah, don't let them think you're some sort of uncivilized lowborn guardsman or something Oh wait, right." Reinhardt jokes.

"Alright, and what should we look out for while we're there? Any recent demon sightings?"

"Just watch out for bandits or monsters, you should be fine if you stick to the main roads though. As for demon sightings, I haven't heard word of anything bigger than a few Scavengers skulking around the border myself, though I hear recently they lost one of their own to what they think was a Scavenger attack. I haven't heard the finer details though. Just stay away from the border as best you can."

"Alright, and Roland, you mentioned nobles right? What are the politics concerning them?"

He shrugs. "About the same as her in Iseria from what I've seen. The king makes sure all the houses play nice, but I wouldn't go upsetting them if I could avoid it. They might not be able to do anything publicly, but gold under the table can make a lot of things happen. Still, if you do end up in conflict with them, just remember that you're the Champion. They can't do anything to you without looking bad unless you do something stupid."
>>
>>40568215
"I'll try to keep that in mind. Are the horses ready sir?"

"They are, your escorts are already waiting for you by the stables. Pack your bags and get ready to leave, you're dismissed."

With that, the rest of your honor guard begin to file out of the Knight-Captain's office to go pack their things. You're the last to exit, and are about to close the door when you remember your dream. You could ask Laurentius about it, but that was a very long tie ago and you don't know what happened since.

>"Sir, I actually had one more question for you before I left. It's about a dream I had, one with you and Andras."
>Let it go for now, you're not even sure it's the same Laurentius, and if it is you don't know if it'll bring back bad memories.

"Sir, I actually had one more question for you before I left."

"What's one your mind?"

"It's about a dream I had, actually. One with you and Andras. Sir, did you know Andras?"

Laurentius narrows his eyes. "I did, yes. Back when he was Champion. What exactly happened in this dream of yours?"

"Well it was two actually. The first one I saw Andras when he picked up Galadriel. The second one I saw you, him, and a third person named Alicia riding for the tower."

The old elf frowns, deepening the many wrinkles on his face. "Sounds like this was no normal dream. Have you had similar visions before?"

"Yes sir, about other Champions right before they died. They stopped for a while, but recently I've started seeing them again, this time about Andras. Sir, if I may ask, who was Alicia?"

The Knight-Captain is silent for a moment. He seems sad about something. "She was an old friend. She died a long time ago. That's all you need to know."

"I'm sorry. If I may ask, how did she die?"

"She was killed during the Battle of Ragvir's Peak. Forgive me Siegfried, but this is a topic I'd rather not discuss, so I'll ask that you please drop it."

"I'm sorry sir, I-"

"Your escort is waiting by the stables. Don't keep them waiting."

"...Alright sir."

Without another word, you turn around and leave, closing the captain's door behind you. In the back of your mind, you can feel that Galadriel is sad as well. For a moment, you consider asking Galadriel about what happened, but decide against it. Maybe some other time.

You and your honor guard arrive at the stables with all your gear packed and ready to go. Three familiar faces greet you when you arrive; Galmar, Logain, and Daniel.

"We meet again Siegfried, well met!" Logain greets you.

"Hello sir, you'll be escorting us to the Red Watchtower?"

"Indeed, our squad was chosen to accompany you on your travels. We'll also be following you to Belmore as well."

"What about you Daniel, I thought you were in a different squad."

"Oh, I just asked a few favors is all. I may not be part of your honor guard, but I would like to assist you as much as I can. The Knight-Captain did not seem to have any qualms with let me transfer to this squad, so here I am."

"I see. Well, good to have you guys with us. We're ready to go whenever you are."

"Very well, then let's be off! We have a long journey ahead of us."

So, you all set off on your journey to the Red Watchtower. It takes three weeks to arrive there, sticking to the main roads like Captain Laurentius said to. Finally, after much riding and no shortage of complaints from certain friends who like to grumble, you see a large fortress of red stone up ahead.

“Here we are, the Red Watchtower!” Logain announces. “Quite the formidable defences, don't you think?”

You have to agree, the tower has several catapults and balistae to defend it. The White Watchtower had a few, but the Red Watchtower definitely has more. Roland once said the people of Galloway were very supportive of the Crusades, maybe the Red Watchtower just has more funding? Or maybe it's because they're guarding the archives Galadriel once mentioned, you're not sure.

“Let's go then, the Knight-Captain should be expecting us.” Says Galmar.

Alright, might be a little early, but I think I'm going to end it here for now. I will run again tomorrow (technically today) unless something happens.

I'll stick around to answer questions if you've got them. Thanks for playing guys, I'll see you all tomorrow.
>>
>>40568887
Huh alright, thanks for the run boss. See you tomorrow hopefully.

I'm 2 for 2 on my write in shenanigans getting worked in these past couple threads. I..I don't think I can keep that rate going.

Thanks for running Sparks, hope I catch the thread tomorrow.

Place your bets! Will Doppelganger~chan try to finish off Siegfried or side with him under Leviathan's orders to backstab the backstabbers
>>
>>40568948
Both
She'll still try but then begrudgingly as for help under Leviathans order's.
>>
>>40568948
>Sieg is kidnapped again
>Galadriel bulldozes her way to him
>Right into the archives
>Red watchtowers guys stand in the way to hide Leviathan
>Everyone is now sweating bullets as Leviathan is laughing at how much internal strife has been created
>>
>>40569030
Leviathan is the demon lord that spawned dopplegangers right?
>>
>>40569115
She's the Demon Lord of Envy, so yeah. Not just Doppelgangers though, all demons of envy are sort of descended from her.
>>
>>40569179
Gotcha thanks.
>>
>>40569179

Probably gibbed by the Demon Lord. Also stored in the tower, that was why the other demon wanted the archives, which are hidden.
>>
>Still only knows support spells
Siegfried will need dat elemental bolt soon.

Also we learned the enchantments but didn't practice them on anything.

We could have given out sets of gloves with the right one carrying the sacred enchant so our party can check for demons casually, and the left one with a strength enchantment to enhance our battle capabilities (Joan, Justine, Reinhardt and Roland lack in the strength department).
