/tg/ - Traditional Games

Mumbling and grumbling like he's more mad for the trick you played on him by locking him up in Silk's realm than impressed by the carnage of the magical artillery duel going on in the background, you see Karas leave (with Silk in tow) to prepare his equipment for the fight.

He's still in time: the first ship in the Silver Prince's formation is quickly sinking, and the rest of the force is still distant, even though it IS closing in very rapidly.

Every thirty seconds, your thoughts are interrupted by a thunderous flurry of lightning bolts exploding from those black ships darting instantly in straight, beam-like lines against Golden Reach, your fortress. Pearl, your city. And, most importantly, the trenches dug on the beaches, designed to repel the Deathlord's invasion, and now under the fleet's withering fire.

Every now and then, your own guns respond in kind, but there's no discussion about who has the greatest firepower in this battlefield. Your own magical artillery fires into the night, but to little effect as of now, your gunners shocked and stunned by enemy fire and unable to efficiently track small, moving targets in the darkness and fog of the night.

A night that will be pretty long, you fear.

Peering down from your position atop Golden Reach's walls, you see Tia, a ghost-like figure wreathed in silver light and tattoos, blade in hand, screaming something, probably challenges, probably insults, above the din of artillery, exposing herself from the trenches and beating her fist on her chest as some soldiers desperately and fruitlessly try to drag her back into cover.

Your heart sinks for a moment as a blinding flash of lightning explodes exactly where you're looking, striking her head-on in the chest by an incredibly lucky - or incredibly well-aimed - blast.

(cont.)
>>
Your vision disappears for a moment, and when you regain it you see the soldiers all around her having dispersed and gone to ground, while Tia herself, her dress and hair ablaze like a living torch, calmly stands back up and goes back to screaming her head off at the invaders.

Looking around her and taking in the situation around the trenches, you see that they are being really wrecked by the enemy fire, the Lightning Ballistas easily cratering and collapsing them. You see charred and mangled corpses strewn about...

Even considering distance, the enemy fire is scarily accurate. You have no way to gauge casualties, but you're afraid they might be high. At this rate, you might not have numerical superiority anymore, once the black ships hit the shore...

You finally see Karas appear on the trenches at a dead run, clad in his ornate armor and with Giant Boxcutter, his daiklave, carried in hand, which he uses immediately, upon arrival, to bat aside a lightning bolt, sending it flying high into the sky.

...Something moving in the ocean, near the shore, catches your eye. ...A red crest, drenched wet, followed by a black metal helm.

Followed by armored shoulders and an absurdly large sledgehammer, the handle a spine (likely not human), the head a huge, roughly-cut block of white marble.

Ebon Siaka, who evidently was on the ship your artillery just sunk, arrives on the shore after her brief work on the oceanic floor, water escaping her full plate armor as she emerges.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You have gathered a lot of allies and friends, and have a powerful Manse under construction.
But Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty flying fortress built in an ancient, forgotten age, and although this is kept secret, two Deathlords are seeking to obtain it.
The Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine, ghost of your past incarnation, seeked it as a weapon to cut her ties to the Neverborn. But you have persuaded her to try and seek redemption in the eyes of the Sun in other ways, and count her as an unlikely ally.
But now the Silver Prince is coming, to punish her and claim the Titan for himself in the name of Oblivion. And this looks like a battle you won't be able to talk your way out of...

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Solar%20Quest

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

Also, an errata: Up to now I've been referring to Adamant Skin Technique as costing 2 Burn motes, but it's because I've been referencing a typo'd version of my system notes. It should be 3 Burn, like all other Perfect Defenses. (Sorry, my bad.)

This being said, since you bought it under the impression that it would cost 2B, do you want to have the XP back, or are you sticking with AST?

>>This looks bad. And the rest of the fleet is not far behind. They'll need every help they can get down there. I should drop down.

not sure on what to vote for the second option, how the fuck is it that ships assaulting in the night are shitloads more accurate against the small beach defenses than our emplaced stationary artillery firing against vessels moving in straight lines? that's just entirely fucking backwards
>>
>>40556712
no idea and without the actually legible versions of the char sheets, I won't be casting a vote on that until the other smarter anons chime in with their input but thats seems pretty shitty to nerf it like that when we bought it as it previously was 2B and then you go "well now its a shitload more expensive or your can just not have it anymore", getting the XP back or keeping i with that change are both not what we spent that XP for nor satisfactory.

Archery charms work with artillery. Maybe not canonically, but they do when I run Exalted.
(I'm not saying that this bizarre case of accuracy is due to charms, I'm just pointing out how Archery works for me.)

>>40556758
>>40556786
I'm sorry for the mistake I made and the confusion I accidentally caused, but I'm not going to let you use a charm for 2B when everyone else uses it for 3B, and I'm not going to rebalance combat in the entire system because of a typo I made once, either.
And if I gave you XPs every time I make a typo or a mistake, Maka's XP score would already be in the four digits.
So I don't really understand what "compensation" you're talking about.

Biting your lips nervously, you resist your impulses of leaping down into the fray and to order a retreat into the safety of Golden Reach.

Another flurry of lightning bolts slams into Pearl as Ebon Siaka steps out of the ocean and swings her giant hammer grandiosely, screaming something. Karas and Tia respond in kind, and there seems to be a bit of banter going on as the three of them close their distance. Meanwhile, you see other survivors from the shipwreck emerge from the sea, though not quite so eager for a fight as the Abyssal is.

Keeping their distance, your men stick to cover and respond with arrows, but they're too scattered and disorganized to focus their fire properly, and only net a few casualties. Some of the survivors also look like armored troops with face-covering helms. Maybe they're the "Vodaks" that Lynne told you about, the Prince's elite heavy infantry in powered magical armor? They certainly seem resilient and cool under fire, though nowhere close enough to being an effective force on the battlefield right now as they're just emerging from a disastrous shipwreck.

The artillery duel continues, and you see the black ships, ever closer, stray their fire away from the beach, their thunderbolts hitting the manse's walls and the fields and improvised, fragile, and thankfully empty buildings around it. Are they diverting their fire because of Ebon Siaka and the survivors on the shore, or was the accurate fire up to now just a stroke of luck?

As your artillery responds in kind, you see one of the ships in the formation, struck by your Lightning Ballista, go up in sparkling, colorful flames, as the blow doubtlessly destroyed some critically important component. Your concussive cannons follow the main weapon's example, and begin to strike the other vessels with more accuracy, denting armor and blowing crewmen into the sea with the force of their blasts.

[Men + Nig = 10 10 7 4 8 = 6 successes]

As you clench you hands on the fortification's parapet looking at the battle down, just as you see Karas charge into Ebon Siaka, you suddenly feel a sharp sensation of unease.

Armored steps behind you, approaching. Normally, you'd think it a soldier carrying a message or running an emergency errand like there can be many in a battle. Going to fetch a surgeon's kit, or spare arrows or shields, maybe.

The moment you hear the telltale steel-on-steel noise of a weapon being pulled free of its sheath, you turn around, just in time to catch a man clad in dark clothes and armor about to plunge a sharp dagger in your back.

You lift your gauntlet-clad hands and, even if you don't manage to stop the blade in time, you lessen the impact and cause the would-be assassin to abort his lunge and just resort to a quick jab and then a swift leap back to put distance between the two of you.

[HEALTH: 8/9]

The blade left a deep gash on your chest: knocked aside from its intended target of your heart just in time, it instead left a painful, bleeding cut from just above it all the way to your left shoulder.

You hear the assassin curse softly under his breath as he glances around, clearly internally debating his chances and avenues of escape.

>Stomp a step in his direction to scare him off. (s+z)
>Immediately close the distance and kick him. (p+d)
>Charge into him and wrestle him to the ground. (p+d)
>Keep your distance as well, and keep your guard high.
>Drop from the ledge to escape him. (p+n)
>Feint, then make a run for it, trying to lose him in the Manse's corridors while looking for help. (p+n)
>(Other?)

I didn't warn you of a roll because, of course, this was a surprise attack, which is one of the few cases in which I'm going to not tell you, and pick dice from other past threads or if necessary roll them myself instead of using your rolls.)

Before the assassin has the time to consider his options, you scream "WRONG!" And leap at him in a butterfly kick.

[p+d = 6 2 5 5 5 2 6 = 0 successes]

Startled by your sudden response, he raises his right arm in defense while tossing deftly his knife to his left, and you feel your kick stop dead against the metal vambrace.

Without saying a single word, he turns his parry in a grab by your ankle, flips and slams you painfully into the pavement, and stabs the knife into your chest.

Pain lances through your body, screaming through your lungs and nerves, and as he pulls the blade out your vision is filled by a spray of your own blood.

[HEALTH: 6/9]

He then immediately stomps his right foot on the wound, grinding his armored heel down and interrupting your first attempt to stand back up. You painfully hit your head on the floor and your vision fills with sparks for a moment.

When you come back to, one instant later, he's keeping you pinned to the ground, about to slash your throat, when all of sudden a blast of light washes over him. You feel the rush of oncoming air and the distinctive, eardrum-shattering FOOM! noise of a Concussive Essence Cannon being fired dangerously close to you, and, when the light is gone, so is the assassin.

"Are you alright?! I'm so sorry!" A very concerned Radiant lightly leaps by your side, offering a hand to help you stand back up. She's covered in sweat and dust, and a couple of scrapes and bruises. Her rifle is still smoking from the muzzle and barrel. "I have no idea how he got in without me noticing!" She apologizes profusely.

She heaves you up, and your low blood pressure makes your head feel uncomfortably light, even though your wound is quickly closing. As you're regaining your bearings, you hear just about the least reassuring thing you could imagine right now.

"...Oh, crap." Radiant mutters.

Following the direction Radiant's looking at, you see the assassin, who has been smashed into a nearby wall by her rifle blast, slowly emerge from the rubble, blood leaking from pretty much anywhere. His right leg and arm are clearly broken and kept at wince-inducing angles, but still move of his own accord, though you have no idea why or how. It's like the impact just have him an extra joint.

With bloodshot eyes, he draws a second dagger and launches himself at the two of you.

"...A stitched!"

"Sutured." You correct her, raising your guard, as you recall Lynne's briefings.

"Whatever!" Is the magical girl's reply as she attempts to bring the rifle to bear once more, respite it being clearly not the best weapon for close combat...

"Alright, that's quite enough with you." You grumble, trying to shrug off the pain, and pumping your bones and muscles and skin so full of Essence, that your Anima flashes brightly in a pillar of warm golden light.

You see the assassin's only visible eye go wide in mid-charge, as if suddenly realizing he's in for something he didn't sign up for, but a second too late.

[p + d = 5 10 6 6 4 8 4 5 2 8 5 = 4 successes]

Your cross-counter slams straight into his face, sending him reeling backwards from the impact, and causing him to lose both knifes, which clatter noisily to the ground. You feel bones in his skull breaking, and his nose leaks blood like a hose, but he doesn't seem to realize, and, trying to evade you, he makes a run for the parapet and leaps off.

He's caught in mid-jump by a second blast of compressed Essence, which hits him right in the small of the back, and propels him away in the night.

"And that's for not leaving me time to do my introduction." Radiant sends him off, angrily shouldering her rifle. "Are you alright? I'm so sorry!"

"I'm, I'm alright." You try to put up a brave front as your wounds slowly stop bleeding, but damn it, you weren't expecting this. That assassin didn't manage to sneak up on you, but he got in two lucky hits, and you still feel the pain. Things are starting to look grim right now.

You glance down, at the beach. About half of the remaining ships are hanging back to provide fire support, which is mostly aimed straight at the artillery emplacements on Golden Reach right now. Without any success, fortunately: the fortress holds, though your artillery is so badly suppressed by enemy fire it can't do much more than take badly aimed snap shots.

(cont.)
>>
It's clear why they're not firing on the beach anymore: the other part of the fleet, numbering six ships, has reached the shore, pouring black-clad warriors out of its hulls onto the sand. The battle has begun, and you see the frontlines coming into contact, with clash of blades, volley of arrows and firewand shots, in a disordered, confused struggle on both sides.

From the ships that made landfall, you also see tall, armored black shapes standing up from trapdoors opening in the structure, climbing out of them, armed with oversized daiklaves and powerbows. The warstriders.

And, in the middle of the fight, two points of light: Karas and Tia, burning essence, locked in a fight with Ebon Siaka. You see her lift that stupidly huge sledgehammer and slam it down, trying to swat Tia, and the Lunar morph into a vulture and fly away just in time before the ponderous weapon collides, only to turn back human just above her and fall down, trying to grab and wrestle the black-plated Exalted into submission. Karas, reeling from a previous blow, is trying to reach her, but four armored soldiers with dual blades are between him and Siaka, two more loosing arrows that he bats aside with a daiklave swipe.

Bringing you eyes back up to the fleet, you see more individuals disembarking after the first wave of soldiers, engaging your own. A tall man, muscular, white-haired, bare-chested except for some armor on arms and shoulders, wielding a daiklave made from bone and soulsteel glowing fire-red.

And a tall, ghostly pale, proud and calm figure in fine clothes and elegant robes, looking more like a tranquil nobleman than a soldier...

"I don't really see the need for all this bloodshed." He speaks, softly, but his words are somehow heard over the din of battle, and for a moment the fight seems to slow down, as if everyone were suddenly paying attention to him...

"We just wanted permission to land peacefully. Our quarrel is not with you, but with the Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine. Let us pass through, and no one has to get hurt."

He looks down on your soldiers around him, who are lowering their weapons and backing up in abject terror, and that's when you notice he's a good meter taller than any normal human being has any right to be. "Our first ship merely had a diplomat to discuss terms. He was under a truce flag. Why did you have to shoot first? But, I'm a magnanimous ruler. I will forgive everything. Just sheathe your swords, and let us through."

And, despite Karas' angry screams as he keeps up the fight, you see your men starting to step back, making way for the Skullstone forces.

While all this happens, Tia and Ebon Siaka are still wrestling in the shallow water. You see the Abyssal put her in a neck lock, and Tia trying to crane her neck behind at a physically impossible angle to bite her head off with a set of suddenly-manifested shark teeth.

Well, looks like it's time.

As the battle grinds to an unnatural halt (with the exception of Karas and Tia to the sidelines), you leap down from the ramparts and land amidst the broken and shattered trenches, filled with the mangled corpses of your own men. Pirates, recruits, Tiannan soldiers, mercenaries... Your heart sinks.

"Oh, glad you could deign us of your presence, finally. I guess the lives of your men aren't important enough for you to actually keep your boots on the ground with them?" The impossibly tall, impossibly pale Deathlord smiles.

His teeth are sharp.

Next to him, King is clearly restless. He keeps glancing sideways at Ebon Siaka, struggling on the beach against Tia and Karas. They seem to be about matched, you notice, which is a scary thought if she needs BOTH of your favorite combat monsters to be fought to a standstill...

Walking through the dead, something clicks inside of you.

You KNOW dead. You've seen dead people. But... these people died for you. In every sense: both because of your orders, and for your sake. You could have avoided this...

But, maybe it would have been worse. Maybe it would have spared their lives in the short term, but caused a lot worse in the long term.

Maybe. You have no way to know. You're not perfect. You can only do your best.

[TOUCH OF GENTLE REPOSE]

You brush your fingers against a broken hand jutting out of a pile of rubble at a hideous angle, and the corpse briefly glows before dissolving into fine white ashes and a slender wisp of smoke.

It seems natural. It seems right. It was probably something you always knew how to do, but never had a chance to. Never found yourself so close to so many dead.

One by one, as you walk by, the bodies, friend and foe alike, dissolve, the souls still trapped within released by your passage.

"You." You point your finger at the Deathlord.

Touch Of Gentle Repose

Cost: 5 motes

Duration: Instant

Type: Simple

Minimum Medicine: 2

Minimum Essence: 2

Prerequisite Charms: Flesh-Mending Discipline

Death is often a welcome release from suffering. With this Charm, an Abyssal can grant that release to a willing individual. The Exalt need only lay his hands on the subject and whisper a prayer of dedication to the Malfeans. If the patient truly wishes to die, she may spend a point of Willpower to painlessly end her own life. This decision cannot be coerced in any way, or the Charm fails. Subjects of this Charm never rise as hungry ghosts, although they are no more or less likely to linger as actual ghosts. Characters cannot use this Charm to facilitate their own suicide.

For those not aware of the full charm

Utter silence falls on the battlefield. Even Karas and Tia and Ebon Siaka stop, mid-headlock, to look at you.

"You have NO RIGHT to pretend you're not an invader, Silver Prince."

"You fired first." He replies, weakly, caught by surprise by your sudden outburst.

"I'm not talking about invading Tianna." You step closer and closer. "I'm talking about CREATION."

He tries to play it cool, batting his eyelashes nonchalantly while making a dismissive gesture. "I am recognized as the lawful ruler of-"

"I don't care what convoluted plan you set up to dupe people into thinking you're the savior of Skullstone. Your authority is not recognized in Creation."

Something... something is off. You step even closer, mere inches from him. King, who at first seemed bored by the prospect of listening to a speech instead pf stabbing people, now seems to regard the current situation as an interesting diversion, and has taken a few steps back, a wide grin plastered on his face.

The ghost lord, instead, hesitates in front of you. "A-and who are YOU to decide who is-"

"I am a Zenith-Caste Solar! Pillar of the Sun! Hammer of Heaven! Princess of Earth! And, whether you, or I, or anyone else in this rotten world wants it or not, until the Inconquered Sun turns his true face back to Creation, I am the closest thing you'll find to a supreme judge here!"

He takes a step back as you jab a finger at his face, the radiating glow from your blazing anima, growing in strength more and more with every word you say, hurtful to his very eyes.

"And I pronounce you GUILTY."

For every step back he takes, you take one forward.

"I'm not even bothering to call you guilty of invading Creation, or of setting yourself up as a cruel god-king of a realm you have no right ruling, or of tricking its people into accepting you. Not even guilty of stealing their very souls and forging them into your arsenal."

You're both knee-deep in water, and with the eyes of everyone turned to your back and his face.

"As far as I care, you're only guilty of one thing, GHOST."

Your pointing hand closes in a fist, and you slam it into his face as your Anima goes fully iconic, your vast heart-shaped crest exploding with golden light above and behind you.

Instantly, his body shatters and melts, the ghost leaving its broken physical corpus behind and retreating back to its immaterial shape.

"Of wasting my time." You turn your back to the quickly-dissipating face, and point your eyes on a grinning King of Uncloaked Steel.

He lets out a long, amused sigh. "...Jig's up, I guess."

"Where. Is. He?" You spell out to him, as, behind him, the Skullstone forces, thinking they just saw their god-king destroyed, waver and hesitate. You see officers trying to reassure the soldiers, to keep them from routing, trying to explain that it must be a trick and the Silver Prince cannot possibly have been defeated that easily, but with only some success.

Lies have a way of backfiring, you guess that's the moral of the story.

"Sorry, cutie." He points his massive, glowing-red daiklave at you. "I'll admit, that was really impressive, But I don't know either. Not that I care. I came here for a good fight, and I hope I've got one right here."

Well it was kinda fishy that the Prince would hit the field at our sector first.

He's here to punish the Tyrant so he's probably directing the half of the fleet he's sent at the Dark Omen.

I'm wondering where Moray Darktide is. On the one hand if I were the prince i'd want him away on the other front so he wont be exposed to anything that could turn him against Skullstone.

On the other i'd keep him damn close so if anyone tried that I could immediately counter.

Moray is probably with the prince then.

>6) A Fire Aspect is not allowed to take three dot specialities in "When On Fire" in every Ability.
Why? A Fire Aspect shouldn't actually be on fire all that often. That's the equivalent of a Solar taking the Specialty "While at Bonfire Anima or Higher."

[+1 BURN]

[s+z = 4 2 3 8 3 5 5 2 9 9 1 9 2 = 4 successes

"Well, if you want a fight-" You start, and are immediately interrupted as King sends his daiklave in a lazy but well-aimed swipe at your neck, which you narrowly avoid by ducking just in time (and losing a bit of hair in the process. "Hey!"

"Sorry, but I'm bored." He cracks his neck left and right, stepping forward, blade in hand, not bothering with a proper stance. "Can we fight now?"

"Like I was saying! If you want a fight-"

"Okay!" He cheerfully replies, lunging at you, and you narrowly bat the glowing red blade aside, nearly burning your fingers off in the process despite your armored gauntlets. "Come on now, I'm even taking it slow because you're wounded, try and make this fun for me."

You open your mouth to reply, but close it when you realize that he's nor interested at all in anything you have to say... and also because he doesn't leave time to, following with a wide vertical slash from the top down, leaving his blade slamming against the sea, cutting it and embedding itself in the sand. The water boils and vaporizes, vanishing before even touching the blade.

"Now, take me seriously or I'm going to take it out on your little soldiers down there." He threatens you.

You cast an aside glance at your lines. The Skullstone officers have managed to rally some of their forces, consisting mostly of Vodaks and more lightly armed seamen pressed as infantry, and are pressing against your ranks. The fighting is messy and the battleground is a nightmare of broken trenches and rubble, but they seem to be holding on...

And then you see the Warstriders. Just as you look,m you see one being nailed by a Concussive Essence Cannon and falling backwards in pieces, but eight others have reached the beaches and are wading through the battlefield, ignoring the struggling but well-covered infantry around them and instead heading straight for the artillery emplacement in Golden Reach's walls, and its gates.

Once they get there, your artillery won't be able to target them, and they might manage to wreck the gates or the emplacements apart, leaving your fortress open.

You've got a more immediate problem to face, however: King, who is keeping up his attacks at you, increasingly eager and increasingly annoyed. And...

You spot a shadow with light silver and gold streaks crawl up behind him. Keeping some distance as to not alert him, but with a long moonsilver knife held in hand and eyes locked on the prey.

Five Tails. King hasn't noticed him, it seems She makes a very subtle motion with her head, and then looks straight at you.

You give Five Tails a slow shake of your head while dodging blows, and she picks up your cue. The knife disappears in her hands, and, without a sound, she turns and leaps off, vanishing in the darkness, doubtlessly to go and wreck some damage where the fight is at its thickest.

[p+d = 2 7 9 1 7 10 6 4 4 8 = 6 successes]

The following blow, a jab aimed straight at your face, you block with your gauntleted hands. The heat radiating from the blade burns your fingers, but you endure, clench the blade harder, and shove it aside.

"Oh. Good to see that you finally-"

You cut his own words short with a flash step into his guard and a hook to his stomach.

[FISTS OF IRON]

Your sudden counterattack must have caught him by surprise, because he didn't seem to put up a defense in time. You slam into his torso and the force of the impact lifts him off his feet by about one meter.

While he's handing in mid-air, you juggle him, keeping him aloft with another blow, then grab him by an ankle and slam him down into the sand. He bounces of the beach with a loud, dull WHACK! and rolls around a bit before stopping and standing back up.

He laughs. A hearty laugh.

"Oh, boy, this is good..." He makes a motion to hold on a moment by raising a hand, bends over to the side, and piked what was probably today's dinner into the ocean.

You wait, patiently, hands crossed.

"Are you done?" You ask, after a second.

"Done." He turns back to you, looking none worse for wear other than a large bruise on his chest where you hit him. "Finally, no more bullshit or plans or diversions or lies or obfuscating shit like that." He points his sword at you, and then lunges, lightning-fast.

An order of magnitude faster than he's been up to now, his castemark - a black shining sun bleeding darkness outwards - appearing on his forehead and a black aura following his movements, just lagging behind him.

The blade strikes you square in the chest, but doesn't bite too deep - however, it fills your head with a searing, blazing pain as it both cuts and burns you.

[HEALTH: 5/9]

He pulls it back, at the ready, his guard now high rather than his old no-guard posture, clearly impressed. "You're tougher than you look. I guess those giant boobs aren't just useless fat after all."

You follow up with a high kick, that clashes against his raised blade as your movements spray water and sand all around the two of you. "Why do you fight for the Prince?!"

"Gotta do that sometimes." He responds, calmly, swiping at your legs aiming at trouncing them off from you, to which you leap over his daiklave and sommersault above and behind him, putting yourself between Golden Reach and him. "He IS my boss."

"Your boss is a jackass."

"Well." He avoids a quick combo of punches, dodging around two and batting one aside with his armor-covered forearm. "I didn't pick him, he picked me."

Roundhouse kick. Nothing, he ducks below it and answers with a low leg swipe you narrowly avoid, despite the damn sand slowing you down. He's GOOD. Fast, strong, skilled and experienced. And he's going EASY on you, you can tell that. You're in full iconic anima and he's barely got his castemark lit up. "And I don't want to piss him off TOO much, so I've learned to just give him what he wants sometimes."

"A good lesson." As things are now, you've got to fight with everything you've got just to keep up with him.

But that's all you're trying to do, after all. Buy time. "You know, I learn pretty quickly too." You add. He takes a swipe at your neck just after you've finished saying that, but you backstep that, and the tip of the blade grazes your throat.

"Not fighting, I'd say. You're good, but not great." He replies, smug.

"No, but I learned something about you." You point out. "Your armor just covers your back and leaves your chest open. That tells me you don't like people sneaking up behind you."

>This has happened before anon, every time there was some external effect on us that steered us to a particular action that we didn't vote for.
Thats actually not true. Not every time EF ignored a vote did it have a IC explanation.
For example the fight on the demon ship where we voted to throw the opponent into the eye so he stays between us and the beam, and EF made us punt the opponent out of the sahip and just stand in the beam, because reasons. Despite having a huge amount of successes.
>>
>>40562070
That one actually had a kinda IC thing that happened too. We got to see Karas go HAM.

And even then that's one case out of the few that have happened with an IC reason.

I'll give EF the benefit of the doubt.

"It's in poor taste." He grins. "Good thing you told her to get lost. I would've trounced her for interfering."

"For someone who doesn't like sneaky stuff, you were pretty good at pretending to not have noticed her." You grin back, as the fight between you and him slowly calms down, both keeping your guard high, entirely focused on each other.

He just grins. "Picked up a few tricks."

"Five Tails did too." You suddenly lower your guard, leaving him surprised for a second. "Speaking of learning, there's two things I've learned about her. One is that she's very good at picking up visual cues and gestures."

There. You made him look behind himself. He was probably expecting Five Tails again.

He was right. He turns around just in time to see one of Skullstone's warstriders careening out of control, suddenly stepping out of the fray and towards the beach and the two of you, the cockpit plating wrenched open by brute strength, the cheetah-lunar keeping the pilot in a headlock as they wrestle for the controls.

"Two, she's very good at fighting armored opponents." While his attention is divided, you swipe a low kick and knock him off his legs, just as the out-of-control warstrider trips and falls in your direction.

Fivetails turns into a hummingbird and darts away. You leap back into the ocean. King loses that second trying to get back up, and the massive metallic automata falls on top of him.

Of course, you've got no doubts that that's not going to keep him down. And he's gonna be PISSED. But right now, you bought some time.

"I hope you've learned something as well." You slam your fist into the crashed warstrider, slamming it deeper down into the sand (and into King). "If you threaten my friends and my people, then the fair-fight gloves come off."

The hummingbird flitters up to you and its tiny head zips in a series of movements. You know what she means to say: "Took me a moment to understand what you meant. Is this fine?"

"I was just improvising, so anything's good." You give another good kick at the Warstrider. "We got a war to win now."

She nods and zips away. You briefly survey the battle.

They aren't fine! They are being outmatched by one enemy! That one enemy also probably bolsters morale of their troops, seeing him fall will make them waver for sure!

This will reduce the casualties we take and really speed up the destruction of the Prince's forces. Then our guys can retreat into the manse or reorganize to move north to beat the other half of the Prince's forces.

You look at the fight going on between Skullstone's small, demoralized, but highly elite forces, and your own larger and determined but vastly less well-equipped and trained forces. Maybe they need your help-

That's when you see appear from literally out of nowhere a floating monstrosity that almost feels like a hallucination: a discolored being with a distinctive feeling of unreality, chimerically fusing the torso and head of what looks like a mutated young woman, the horns of a bull, the body of a serpent and the wings of... something. Alright, you give up.

"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING?!" You're not sure who screamed that, but you really empathize with that statement as the being slowly lowers itself on the battlefield and its quasi-human head (still as large as a warstrider's head, though) opens its mouth and from it, without any synch with its actual lip motions, comes a song with incomprehensible words made from the noise of water flowing on a rocky riverbed.

"AHAHAHAH!" You hear a very distinctive maniacal laughter on top of it, and, squinting, you see Silk perched on top of the monstrous, sanity-shattering creature's shoulder(?) "Your time has come to an end, puny mortals! Witness my power unchained! Witness your doom! Witness THE SONG THAT ENDS YOUR WORLD!"

You linger on the scene just long enough to make sure that it's only the Skullstone soldiers who start falling on their knees, sobbing, crying, stunned, or mindbroken, before turning around.

...You'll have to schedule some counseling to your own men after the battle, maybe. But at least that front seems covered.

"Need a hand?" You walk up to Tia and Karas, who are trading blows with Ebon Siaka, with calculated poise and calm. They all seem fairly wounded and bloodied, and the stretch of beach around them is more cratered and messed up than your kitchen the last time you tried baking.

>>
>>40563207
Well the entire reason is because her addiction is part of a self imposed character. I don't trust the fae because literally everything they do is an act.

Not the guy you're taking to, but no, intimacies to Creation-things are real emotions, much to the surprise of a fairy who tries to discard them. >>
>>40563249
>Well the entire reason is because her addiction is part of a self imposed character.
Actually, its the result of solar social charms. The 2nd ed mechanics that >>40563299 correctly refers to aside, "I'm a fae" is not and has never been a perfect defense against social attacks. Especially ones coming from a social powerhouse like Maka.
>>
>>40563249
Her entire presence is self imposed, its how fae interact with creation at all. They still treat their self impositions seriously; they have to

We already gave her the okay to feed on our people in a limited fashion and I frankly don't doubt for a second that she'll want to feed more and more to get more gossamer to be a good pet or whatever she says.

I'm just saying to be wary of her trying to get away with some shit I guess.

"I'll kill you!" The Abyssal in the black suit of armor rants, swinging the giant hammer over her head, her black aura glowing fiercely. "I'LL KILL YOU ALL!"

"I'm almost starting to miss King." You grumble.

"How did that turn out?" Tia asksleaping out from under the maul's impact point and slashing past Siaka, her daiklave pinging loudly against the Abyssal's armor.

"Five dropped a warstrider on him." You reply, taking position. With the three of you, you can surround her completely now. "He's gonna be pissed, so I kind of need your help there."

Ebon Siaka swings her hammer in a circular motion, just as Karas was about to leap in. The hammer knocks him aside, painfully it seems.

She has a good guard, but she can't keep up a guard against all of you if you all attack at the same time. Even if she spins her hammer around like that, it's still going to take time for it to complete the circle. Especially if that

Tia steps forward, slams her daiklave deep in the sand to provide an anchor point, and, holding on to it to keep herself from being knocked away, does exactly that: she headbutts the oncoming giant hammer.

Her head, obviously, cracks like a ripe coconut under, well, under a hammer, but that STOPS the hammer just around there, getting Siaka's weapon stuck just long enough...

[p + d = 6 9 9 5 10 7 2 10 2 6 = 7 successes]

To let you leap into her guard with a roundhouse kick to the temple, which connects with one of the loudest noises of metal on metal you've ever heard as your boots dent her helmet.

Her response is swift and brutal. Without letting go of the hammer, still blocked by Tia's forehead, she shifts her weight and slams a powerful rising kick into your stomach.

You reel from the pain, and the impact is strong enough to lift you off your feet and send you flying in a high arc through the air.

Her hammer locked by Tia and her unarmed fighting balance used to strike you, she is defenseless for a moment.

Long enough for Karas, lying down in the sand all black and blue and broken, to lob his Daiklave at her.

The giant blade spins straight at her in a straight trajectory and hits her square in the chest, knocking her several dozen meters away. You see her skip once, twice, three times on the surface of the ocean like a flat rock on a tranquil lake, leaving dots of crimson blood where she touched the water.

She sinks like a rock as well. You're not sure if she's down for the count or just out of the fight for a bit-

Your train of thoughts is interrupted by your painful landing onto the hard sand of the beach, where your impact leaves a non-insignificant crater.

Trying to stand back up despite your everything hurting, you see a battered and bruised Karas trying to help Tia back to her feet. Tia's head is a mess of white and red, and you can't make out exactly the damage at this distance, but she seems to be still standing. Which is more than you can say for yourself, you reason as you have to summon a minumental effort to get back into an upright position.

"NOOO! MY ULTIMATE COSMIC POWER!"

You turn your head to the source: Silk's voice, who cries in distress as her behemoth, punctured by three warstrider-sized arrows, is quickly deflating like a full waterskin pierced by, well, pierced by an arrow.

You hit your head too many times in the last twentyfive hours to think of good metaphors anymore.

RIP Behemoth, didn't have a chance to shine.

We really should have thought about the fact that Warstriders were more or less built to take out Behemoths

>"NOOO! MY ULTIMATE COSMIC POWER!"
Truly the greatest tragedy of this conflict.
>>
>>40563704
Aww, the Behemoths don't seem too powerful in this game. One got killed in like 2 rounds solo and the other didn't even last a round. RIPerino in peperino big guy
>>
>>40563801
Behemoths have power determined by how much gossamer is allocated to them. This one got very little.

If only Karas had returned a day or two earlier.

You see Silk groaning in the... bizarre... ruins? corpse? What the- okay, you give up. You see Silk groaning, kneeling in what's left of her Behemoth, muttering: "...That's what I get for doing this thing on a budget...", as the Warstrider close in on her and on the fortress walls. "But next time... NEXT TIME..."

You're about to try and take a step in her direction, while also trying to run in your head a scenario of how you would take on, bare-handed, a fifteen meters tall mechanical monster (probably punching it, though. It generally works), when suddenly one of them, in the corners of your field of vision, explodes in a shower of sparks.

"HOLD IT!" A magnified voice echoes through the battlefield, ear-splittingly loud.

"Oh gods." You can hear Karas mumble while holding up Tia, rolling his eyes to the sky. "It's THEM."

The other remaining five warstriders stand the battlefield, looking around, but neglect to look up, and one of then is caught entirely by surprise as another, slightly larger and vastly more colorful warstrider appears, planting his right foot into his face with a crunching sound as it leaps from atop Golden Reach's walls.

"VILE EVILDOERS!" Irene's voice, vastly amplified, reaches you, and, you guess, everywhere else in the battlefield, as the Jade warstrider points a finger towards the sea.

"For no longer will your presence be tolerated upon these shores." Definitely more restrained, But still obviously enjoying this, Aexel follows.

"IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE! WE! ARE THE ONES WHO WILL KNOCK YOU DOWN!" And that's Rajan. Amazing he's already recovered. He DID recover, right? You hope he did.

"For the heavens call for vengeance. and we are the ones who will carry out the sentence! PREPARE YOURSELVES!" Zareen. Did they PREPARE this?

The Warstrider draws a long slashing sword, and knocks aside an incoming warstrider arrow before lunging at its attacker. It's amazing how these things can be so clumsy and yet so fast at the same time.

I'm gonna admit I know next to nothing about Exalted so thanks for telling me. This quest is pretty much my only exposure to it.

Fuckin' A.

"BECAUSE TOGETHER WE ARE ONE! TOGETHER, WE ARE JUSTICE! TOGETHER, WE ARE THE STEEL KEEPING CREATION'S FOES AT BAY!"

Samiel got WAY into it. You recognize that sword posture from seeing him practicing swordsmanship in the castle courtyard... and you see flames crawling up the blade as he traces an arc with it.

Glowing fire explores from out and behind of the warstrider as it strikes a pose for a moment, dazzling its opponents, and, as all the soldiers cheer it on, it cuts the opposing war machine into two with a diagonal slash.

"TOGETHER, WE ARE DRAGONKAISER!"

The jade warstrider turns its back to its defeated opponent, and slowly sheathes its sword. One moment after the blade is returned to its scabbard, the critically damaged automata explodes.

All together: "And if you do not fear our power... COME AND FACE US!"

Oh yeah, someone mentioned an idea in one of the previous threads and I decided to steal it and ask toorops to draw it out. Here is the sketch. It's going to remain a sketch.

I was the one who mentioned that.
It's every bit as glorious as I thought it would be

I'll figure it out

Also, have an accurate depiction of Maka's wardrobe charm.

Incidentally, Yurika's Campus Life is a perfect example of the stunts Maka could (and does) pull off by sheer social firepower. The entire manga is what would happen if you'd lock a social-specialized solar in a campus with a bunch of mortals.
