Stage 80: Aches, Pains, and Troubles.

With Yui-niji-chan and Kiku-chan distracted by cooking duties, and Kiki-hime and Jinyuu-onee-sama busy with melon while Akari-chan and Inau-san....Inau-kun? That might be interesting to call her. Anyways, they're preparing sushi and sashimi. Yuuhi-chan runs over and babbles excitedly at Yui-chan and Kiku-chan, who both gaze up at her overzealous explanation of what you've been up to.

Which is an even better distraction than cooking.

You walk over to Er Yin-sensei and kneel next to her as she sits in a half-lotus position in the sand, her jacket piled behind her and her blouse barely closed by two buttons. Basking in the sun, eyes closed and looking content, Er Yin looks like she's in no pain for the moment. But you can see her breathing is off – the injuries have deeply unbalanced her Chi flow, above and beyond the removal of her flesh. “Er Yin, I am going to do something that will hurt, but you will breathe better. Try not to make noise, I don't want to alarm Yui-niji-chan or Kiku-chan.”

“Mmh,” is her soft reply, barely a nod.

You press one hand against her back, behind her left shoulder-blade, and press, while you push your right forefinger deep into the scorched and raw flesh of her shoulder – not into the meat itself, but between the striations of muscle and fascia, to the meridian beneath. Er Yin stiffens, her heartbeat and breathing erratic until she forces herself calm, and in that instant you push a jolt of cold through the meridian, and the muscles that surround it. You pull your finger free and rest your fing- uh, claws, lightly against the injury. “How does that feel?”

Er Yin opens her unseeing and smiles. “Much better, thank you, Ryukusa-sama. Where did you learn that?”

“From Hinata-hakase and Kiku-chan healing me. It doesn't take much for me to learn such things.” You kiss her brow, and settle into the warm sand next to her. To your surprise and pleasure, her tail wraps around your back and legs, the remainder lying across your lap. Yours can only coil along hers, really. Also, the edges of her tail tend to be kind of sharp.

[] Talk to her first about your flashbacks.
[] Just relax and enjoy the chance to be with your loved ones for a while.
[] Ask her how she feels about you speaking with a kappa to have her healed.
[] Ask her if she saw what you suspect she sees, in that you're not what you were.
[] Inquire about the contents of the syringe and how bad it would have been if Kiki-hime had been hit with it.

[XX] Just relax and enjoy the chance to be with your loved ones for a while.
[X] Ask her if she saw what you suspect she sees, in that you're not what you were.
[X] Ask her how she feels about you speaking with a kappa to have her healed.

You take a deep, slow breath and relax, watching your family as they talk, smile, and even play a little. There's the wariness about them, that sense of alertness that doesn't quite let them be entirely relaxed just yet, but despite that they are happy and calm. Even Yui-niji-chan, Inau-kun and Akari-niji-chan are well and only a little bruised after fighting a demon. Kiki-hime is safe and unworried, her faith in your family absolute. Er Yin-sensei's injury is troubling her less, with the pain blocked and her breathing made easier after you lessened the swelling of the injured tissues. Kiku-chan is looking at you, but your smile seems to reassure her and she goes back to making cups out of the white sand of the beach, to Yuuhi-chan and Yui-chan's intense fascination.

You really need to stay submerged for a while, but you're hoping this evening will be fine for that.

You can see that the meal is almost entirely prepared, and you take these last moments of privacy to broach the subject you'd much rather avoid. “So, Er Yin-sensei....I noticed you had your Void Eyes wide open a while ago....did you see anything worth mentioning outside of our quarry?” It's not a subject you're happy with discussing, but it has gotten to the point where you need to.

“Worth me mentioning? No, Ryukusa-sama. I saw nothing that would be my place to discuss outside of what was necessary.” The faint smile gives the lie to the otherwise factual statement. “There is much to see here, after all, and I would not speak of others' secrets unless it became absolutely necessary or they were an enemy.” Her forthrightness helps; your older sister's reticence about so many things makes things more difficult than they have to be between you. Sure, you get it, it's sisterly protectiveness, but still....

“Well, it can't stay a secret much longer in any case. It's starting to have an effect. It'll take some explaining though, and I'll want everyone to listen. Maybe tonight, before or after fireworks.” You run your talons through the warm sand, your left claws slicing through several pebbles. “It was kind of....harrowing.”

“Do you believe in fate, Ryukusa-sama?”

Note that being a reincarnated deity doesn't mean anything in regard to fate. Several of our sisters were in the "reincarnated deity" position, and they didn't succeed.
>>
>>40538867
Did they have this many best girls helping them though?
>>
>>40538704

Kinda like that. I feel that fate gives you an opportunity to act, a chance to do something. It is still up to the individual to do so.

Fate may place you in the same place as someone else however choices of both individuals influence what happens.
>>
>>40538867
That's why I put it last on the list. I figured it was meant to be a joke rather than an actual resignation to fate, especially since all of our actions have been taken to not avoid our destiny but mitigate its fallout.

That said, we are certainly adhering closer to that destiny than our sister wanted us to, which of course opens up the prickly discussion of how she was just swapping one destiny/fate for Ryukuza with another
>>
>>40538889
Clearly not, as they failed to acquire the Er-Yin seal of approval.

I bet they even killed their Yui when challenged to a death duel by her.

Her question takes you a little by surprise. Seers are supposed to be somewhat philosophical, but she's also given very certain prophecies that you've changed. It kind of hints at her not being much of a fatalist. “I'm not really sure I understand quite what you're asking, Er Yin-sensei.”

She turns her head in your direction just a little, her eyes closed once more. “I was wondering if you have an opinion of whether or not there is fate.”

You sift your fingers through the sand and watch it pour between your shining talons. The edges are just the slightest bit more translucent than the cores, making the shadows of the sand rolling through your fingers shimmer. “I heard a saying once. 'Achieve your destiny, or you will face your fate.' I don't think that's what you were asking either though.” You sigh and let the last of the sand spill to the beach. “I think there's a little bit of fate in our lives sometimes. There are things that happen because they have to, but sometimes there's no real rhyme or reason, either. I know I'm supposed to be a good little Shinto girl and say the kami make everything happen for their reasons, but I don't think they do that all the time either.”

Her tail tip curls and strokes your bare belly lightly. “So you would say there was no fate involved in whatever has happened to you.”

You shake your head, eyes narrowing. “No, definitely not. That was planned to an extent. There were people who helped me through it too.” No one but Oba-san could have managed that. Not even Taisho Ryoga is that well connected.

“Then you do not think it was the Kami acting to redress the balance that gave you the strengths of a dragon many times your age that caused you to suffer whatever may have happened?”

“Not really. It was something that I would have done to get rid of my enemy if I'd gotten the opportunity, so even if it was, it would just be historical revision to make it seem like fate.” Er Yin doesn't seem surprised by your answer. “So no, there wasn't anything like fate or destiny in that. Just something that happened that I can cope with. At least, I think I can cope with it. If I can't

>beat them, I'm sure as hell not joining them!” you hiss angrily. The trio of robed and masked figures, crouched on a fallen arch way, 'look' at you, their slender arms and ragged nails clutching at the rocks. “Just because you're given a binary choice doesn't mean that's all the choices you have to choose from. Your audience, strange multi-legged and multi-eyed lizard creatures all nod and shake their heads and agree or disagree, debating your points in their hooting language. “If they try and force the matter

I'll just have to work around it,” you finish a little shakily. Not as bad as the last couple. Good.

Kiki-hime is walking towards you both, holding a steaming cup in one hand. “All right you two, time to eat.” she hands you the cup of hot herbal tea – pungent and definitely one of your sister's medicinals – as she lays a hand on Er Yin's shoulder, offering to guide her if she needs it.

“Thank you, Kiki-hime,” Er Yin murmurs, sliding her tail from over your lap and around your legs. She takes advantage of your wife's offer as Kiki-hime smiles at you rising to follow suit. You sip the tea with a smile you can quite help yourself from showing, and not even the bitterness of the tea can make her smile seem less sweet.

“Oh, sensei....I wanted to ask. Do you have any issues with me seeing a kappa to get you healed?” Your question makes Er Yin-sensei slow, and Kiki-hime's eyes glimmer with worry.

She turns to you, her silver eyes and the dead blue pools of her pupils looking in your direction calmly. “Ryukusa-sama....I know that you would never risk the safety or health of any of us with even the slightest chance of some worse outcome occurring. You are our daimyo, but you are also the head of our family, and you would not sacrifice even the least of us for another, save Kiki-hime....” Kiki-hime blushes and looks slightly ashamed. “But even her, I do not believe you would sacrifice the least of us for. I do not think 'sacrifice' is a term you would even consider.”

You don't grimace, because Kiki-hime is looking at Er Yin with wide, startled eyes. She's not entirely correct, but she's awfully close to the mark. Akari-niji-chan and Yui-niji-chan....they're not 'expendable' in any sense of the word, but if you needed them....they would go together. And once Kiki-hime was safe you'd take revenge. Not vengeance, not out of duty, but pure, raw revenge.

“There is no 'least' of you, Er Yin-sensei,” you remind her softly, and your wife positively beams at you. She inclines her head, but the way she does it gives you a cold chill.

Putting those rather grim thoughts aside...your family has prepared an insanely great looking picnic. Fresh roasted fish, sushi and sashimi so fresh it was probably still in the ocean not even an hour ago, cold melon, sodas for everyone but you – Jinyuu-onee-sama's strict orders – and some seaweed based soup from Kiku-chan's home. You sit next to the fire, Kiki-hime at your side and in a circle with your family, and thank them, the kami, and (to yourself) Inari for the meal.

After the meal, you're going to have to decide to

[X] Ask Akari what happened with the demon-girl.
[X] Take Kiki-hime swimming – you promised after all.
[X] Wait until after the fireworks, when everyone is winding down and calm.

Most of the meal is consumed by little stories of Yuuhi-chan's encounters with various sea-dwelling creatures, with Inau-chan describing some of her more interesting responses; Kiku-chan tells about being dragged off by a group of kids to help build sandcastles; and Er Yin smiles like an indulgent parent at the antics of the others. Shoko-san shows up shortly, bringing a basket of all sorts of fruits and vegetables from the shop as an apology for being late, and Kiku-chan even roasts some of the plantains to eat with your meal. Yui-chan tells about Akari-chan being challenged to a wrestling match, and how she lost her top – totally, you're assured, by coincidence – while Akari retaliates by describing Yui-chan's reaction toa jellyfish.

You spend the meal leaning against Kiki-hime, and watching your family. Their wildly different backgrounds and lives seem to be little more than ancient history to them now; here, in the midst of strangers, your family is closely knit and whole, strangely close despite the pasts that separate them. Kiki-hime, noticing your thoughtful look, leans over and whispers in your ear softly, “It is because of you that each and every one of them is here, Ryu-chan.”

True in many more ways than one.

“As the meal is winding down and everyone is pleasantly full, you ask Akari-niji-chan what happened to the demon-girl. “Well, I tracked her to a cave nearby, but there was someone there who could keep me from entering. A ward or a power like mine. I don't think they'll have stayed, but I couldn't find out anything more, sorry, aniki.” You can tell she's disappointed in her own performance,. But pragmatically you and she both know it wasn't anything more than hope. You could look into it before leaving though.

“That's all right – even that knowledge is helpful. I didn't think it would amount to much, but hope springs internal.” Kiki-hime giggles and you stick your tongue out at her. “Remember the rules, groups of two at all times. I have to fulfill a promise, so I'm taking Kiki-hime swimming. The rest of you can enjoy a well deserved break.”

“You're not supposed to go swimming until an hour after you eat, aniki!” Yui-niji-chan points out helpfully..

You lean over and smile. “Oh? What might happen?”

Yui blinks several time and then turns a rather interesting shade of cherry red as Akari giggles melodiously. You've never seen her turn that color before, it's actually kind of cute. Kiki-hime takes you by the horn and gently but firmly drags you away before you can embarrass the poor oni-girl further. “You're so terrible, Ryu-chan.”

You nod sagely, once you're out of earshot of the campsite. “I don't think she's ever been to the beach either. You sister hasn't. I was kind of surprised by that.” Kiki-hime nods, but doesn't say anything, her arms wrapped about yours, walking hip to hip. “You're not going to be able to talk, so don't bother, by the way. I won't be able to either. You won't feel any discomfort though.”

Your wife nods. “Ryu-chan....I am very glad we did this. Together, as a family. All of us, even Inau-san.” That reminds you.

“Inau-kun would like to stay with us, you know.” Kiki-hime looks surprised. Not by the honorific though. “She spoke with me about it earlier. She's actually very fond of us, beyond her duty to her aunt. And really, the fact that she risked her own safety and maybe her life to help Akari- and Yui-chan....I am very tempted to let her.”

“It sounds like you want to say 'but' there, Ryu-chan,” chides your wife gently.

[X] No, our butts are just fine where they are.
[X] I want to know what you think first.
[X] I think she's trustworthy.
[+] Better make sure they're in place.

You slide your tail along her derrière and then twine your tails together. “Actually I prefer our butts just where they are, thank you very much. Besides I prefer 'except' rather than 'but'. You can always make an exception, buts are much harder to kick.” Kiki-hime jumps at your caress and giggles, half-swatting at your tail before leaning into more heavily. The walk to the beach is leisurely, and you feel secure in the fact that being in the water will help steel you against any more....interruptions for a while. “Besides, you're is delectable, so that is one exception to butts coming to mind quickly....ah, but now you're distracting me!”

Kiki-hime laughs, a lovely, soft sound, not the high pitched giggle that seems to be the preferred laugh of girls according to the NHK. “Well, I do live to serve....” You brush your horn against her as you nuzzle her cheek and that prompts giggles instead. Not to mention a lovely blush. Sakura blossom scent....you've missed that too.

Once you've both settled down a little (which is rather easier said than done, honestly) you continue. “I can't help but think of her as trustworthy at this point. Er yin-sensei would have mentioned otherwise, and she was very adamant about Yui-niji-chan and Akari-niji-chan being as important to our family as I am.” Kiki-hime looks a little surprised at that. “It takes a lot of strength to throw yourself into a fight like that when you're not really a trained warrior. Sure, she went to military school, but Akari-chan and I are in a class of our own, and Yui-chan, well, she's an oni-child. Inau-kun is a hunter. But she was standing with sword out and protecting Yui.”

You don't need to prompt an opinion from Kiki-hime, because her first opinion is obvious. “Well, if Ryu-chan....” She trails off as you shake your head.

“I am asking your opinion because this is your family too. You are my wife, Kiki-hime. That means if it is about our family, not just your protection....it matters.” Her eyes glisten and you can feel the tears forming. “She'll stay and assist us with the children as long as we need her, but if we want to make her welcome, that's a little different. Especially given her....unusual upbringing.”

Kiki-hime nods, to your surprise. “She's mentioned that. The military school. She's so formal about it, but at the same time, she's very....easy to talk to. Like a boy that you consider safe.” You blink at her, giving her an entirely real blank look, and she blushes. “Ah, sorry, um....it's like she's naturally someone to confide in. A born diplomat.” You have to admit the concept of a 'safe person', boy or girl, is a relatively new experience outside of Akari-chan. And you never shared secrets or confidences. Too dangerous around the people you grew up with.

You are both suddenly accosted by half a dozen children, running and playing tag; the ghost giggles as he tries to dodge around you. The most interesting part is that the children are both human and nogitsune-born, and they are getting along very well. When a couple of the children use you to hide behind, you wink at the 'ghost'....and then do a no-hands cartwheel over him, much to the shrill squeals of delight and surprise of his near-victims, who dash off quickly. Kiki-hime smiles and slips her arm in yours as she walks up to you, and watches the children, human and not, run off.

“Ryu-chan....what will our children's lives be like?” Her voice is soft, and a little worried, perhaps, but not the kind of worry that would stem from fear. The worry of a mother wondering what the future might bring, as opposed to the dangerous present. You also caught the inflection – not just her child and yours, but all her half-sisters as well.

You seriously consider asking Jinyuu-onee-sama if you might have sons as well. You have no idea how that works, since genetics has fuck-all to do with it!

[XXX] Considering our family, I think they will be treated like the precious treasures they are.
[XX] We're not going to hide them away, if that's what you are worried about.

You can't help but smile at her concern. “Consider out family, Kiki-hime. Even you and I aside, there isn't a single person among them who wouldn't treat a child as the precious treasure they are. Teachers, protectors, kind and loving, and every one without a doubt ready to turn over Japan to make sure no one hurt any of our children.” You pull her close and stroke her hair, and she looks up at you, her arm folded between your body and hers. You kiss her forehead, eliciting several cat-calls which you ignore.

“We're not going to hide them away either. I want them to grow up with friends and people they can cherish too. They'll be happy as we can manage, even if our fortunes aren't as strong as they would be now.” She nods, understanding the implication of your ascension to power. “But that's some time away, Kiki-hime, you don't have to worry over it just now. Together – all together – we will make a safe and warm household for them however we can manage.”

“Hai, Ryu-chan,” she whispers softly, lowering her face to look at your neck. You smile and draw her hair from her face and rest your cheek – carefully because getting your horns locked together by accident would really suck – against her forehead. “Sorry for asking such a strange thing.”

“Believe me, if that was the strangest thing I'd heard....” You let the thought trail off and shake your head, taking her by the hand as you walk backwards towards the beach. “Ah, I'm an idiot. Come on, we don't want to miss fireworks. I'm looking forward to watching Kiku-chan startle Yui-chan!”

She laughs as you pull her towards the beach, and you're well aware of the number of eyes on you both – admiring, some envious, many curious. A quick check for jellyfish – and you do find one that you're definitely going to have to keep an eye on – and snakes, and you're safe to go into the water. She squeals at the cool water, and your laughter prompts her to take a double handful of the cool water and hurl it at you. You pirouette to the side and sweep her feet from her with the undertow, just for the opportunity to catch her in your arms. It works perfectly and you catch her before she hits the water, her tail lashing wildly as she smiles up at you.

Princess carrying her into the deeper water, you wade to more than waist deep, and she giggles and shivers a great deal as the water creeps up her body. The undertow is no threat to you, of course, and she's much taller (and more rounded) than Kiku-chan is. Still you're enjoying being able to hold her like this, and from the way her tail is wrapped about your waist, she's more than fine with it. You kiss her softly, and slowly, and sink her beneath the waves. Even beneath the waves she doesn't relinquish the kiss; in fact, she takes the kiss from you and makes it her kiss, rather than yours.

You really need to figure out how she manages that.

When she finally allows you to break the kiss, she gasps shocked. It doesn't make any sound of course, but the rush of water wafts past your cheek. Taking her hand firmly, you start making your way out to deeper water....

[X] Let her lead the way?

While you do take her to the sides to avoid a few of the body-board surfers – the tides are changing but the bay slows the larger waves to mere heavy swells – by and large you let her lead the way. You do spot the jellyfish tentacles you need to avoid, but they're hundreds of feet away yet. Her eyes, while not as easily able to pierce the water, are still fairly sharp, and she points out various groups of starfish and anemones in the deep tidal zone. You smile and gesture for her to lead on, and she starts off towards the deeper middle of the bay.

You keep a tight grip on her wrist, and she does likewise, though for her drowning is a far lesser risk than it was for Kiku-chan. Still, seawater will be unpleasant for her; she might be able to handle freshwater easily, being a wood dragonette, but the salt content might make her sick.

The deeper center of the bay is filled with thick iridescent brain-like coral and clumps of shorter seaweeds, as well as fan-like corals and algae covered rocks. Kiki-hime adores the fish, which fearlessly swim up to her, investigating the slow moving and much larger fish in their midst. Shrimp dart here and there, and the beautiful, slow sea-dragons – fishes, not like yourself – garner excited motions that do startle the entourage of other, smaller fish. Her wonder makes your heart surge with hope and warmth, feelings you have missed for so long; you let the ocean take your tears away as she leads you hither and yon, through the strange world beneath the ocean.

You do have to pull her short at one point however. She looks back at you, confused, and you point out the delicate streamers drifting slowly away. It takes her a moment to find them, your dragon-eyes shaper than hers. Naturally she's curious about them, and you take the lead, slowly following them up. Jellyfish-ojisan was headed back out to see on the tide, which is why you didn't point him out to any of the surfers or other swimmers, but the look on Kiki-hime's face when she sees the jellyfish is very well worth the trouble of taking her to find him.

Not many people get to see a five foot wide lion's mane jellyfish, after all.

Once she's seen him she takes you back down – swimming a little more cautiously, to your amusement, and you find a giant clam amongst the rocks. She is fascinated by the huge creature's hundreds of blue eyes, and turns to you, most likely to make a comparison, when her expression changes to alarm. You turn around slowly, and draw back just a little bit, pulling Kiki-hime behind you when you realize what it is that startled her.

It isn't entirely surprising to see one, but they're fairly rare, mostly because they are reclusive. She looks at you calmly, her vanes ears flatted along her head and her green-tinted black hair a compliment to your midnight tinged hair. Her eyes are wide and dark, and her expression is fairly flat; naked, she floats before you with her long, golden scaled tail shifting slightly to keep her place as the sea moves back and forth around you. A ningyo....a real mermaid. Her mouth opens but she says nothing, revealing dozens of sharp little teeth. Rows and rows of them. Kiki-hime squeezes your hand tightly.

Hopefully not a youkai; most likely she's a natural born one.

Part of your issue with the mermaid is you know next to nothing about them. This isn't a particularly unusual situation, as only scholars and perhaps a few miko and priests of the sea Kami know much more than their flesh can grant immortality, if it doesn't kill out. Ageless and immortal themselves, the finding of a dead on on the beach is a sure sign of war and destruction. Killing one brings terrible, devastating storms as well, so most of the legends say fishermen throw them back when they get caught up in nets.

Unfortunately, most school children in Japan could tell you as much. She's long and sleek, beautiful in her alien way, and she doesn't seem to be particularly threatening, given she has gills and an open mouth draws more water through them. As long as she is, she must require a huge amount of oxygen. You could be entirely mistaken and she's planning on taking a bite out of you too, of course.

You back up just a little, so that Kiki-hime can clutch your shoulder, and you keep your hand behind you, tightly clasps about her wrist. The mermaid moves closer, and the other issue you have with her presence here is demonstrated again: you can't feel her presence in the water. Rather, it feels no different than the constant and mild currents and washes of the ocean itself. You can't even differentiate between her blood and the ocean.

You smile and slowly wave. Her eyes fix on your hand and she slides a little closer, her mouth almost closing as she fixates on your left hand, the sapphire claws seeming to inspire curiosity. Slowly you reach out; in response she takes your hand, her fingers sliding between your to spread them, her other hand tracing the junction between flesh of palm and the growth of sapphire flesh and talons. Something else catches her eye and she slides MUCH closer, her bare breasts pressed against your suit. Her body is the same temperature as the water, and all you can feel is pressure, but her breasts aren't fatty tissue – they're hard, muscular tissue; she could probably use her arms to tear apart boats. Tilting her head she examines your neck carefully, looking for your gills, you have to guess.

[] Go ahead and risk baring your neck – her teeth aren't long, they're tiny – just numerous.
[] Let her look, but don't take any unnecessary risks.

[+] Hands – she likes the sparkles it seems. Water eyes too, just for....well, safety's sake, if we're going to be honest about it.

You slowly circle away from her, leading the princess with your hand behind you and extending it past you, so she is presented in all her buxom glory....and so the ningyo can see your ruby hands. They interest her as well, but it is the swish of your tail through the water that draws her attention. She slowly drifts lower to study it, one hand lightly brushing the the thick fur along the top of your tail. You involuntarily twitch and the fins at the end flare, which seems to interest her only momentarily. Water eyes reveals only intense curiosity and mild confusion; it's almost the same level of instinct as an animal, or a youkai, but she's definitely not youkai – supernatural, yes, but more like a form of spirit-child than anything else.

She goes back to your left hand, which seems to fascinate her for some reason. You spread you fingers wide, holding up your hand. She traces your wrist, and Kiki-hime, now equally curious, swims a little closer to the mermaid herself – keeping a tight grip on your wrist and watching her serpentine body carefully. The ningyo ignores Kiki – and you – in favor of sliding her hands along your arm to your elbow. It's only when her fingers reach the place where your arm was cut off that she pauses, her eyes going comically wide.

You blink, and before you can react – she's Fire dragonette fast! – she has her ear flat against your chest, her hands clutching your ribs, the sharp points of her fingertips digging into your skin rather painfully. Kiki-hime is equally startled, but she doesn't seem to be attacking you, or hurting you on purpose, just making sure you don't try to push her away as she listens to your heart.
>>
>>40543871
No, not your heart.

….your Pearl. She's listening to your Pearl.

She darts back, her expression awestruck and her eyes bright and excited. Then she turns and the surge of water pushes you and Kiki-hime several yards through the water as she swims away at a speed that you couldn't match on your best day. Kiki-hime stares with you, but she's gone in seconds, even to your supernatural eyesight. Together you slowly swim up to the surface, dazed. The pinpricks of her claw-marks hurt quite a lot, as such tiny injuries do; the pain is all out of proportion to the actual wounds.

When you surface, the first words out of Kiki-hime's mouth are, “What was THAT all about, Ryu-chan?”

And for the life of you, you haven't the faintest idea.

Thanks for running!

I do have a few questions:

Is there any myths about Horobi others than the ones told during the quest?

Do our wives have a secondary element, like Ruykusa's affinity with Void? And if yes, which?

Also, what are the power of the jade rings our wives have?

Sorry if it's too much.

Thanks for writing!
Why are mermaids so cute?

No, there aren't. There is a reason for that, which you will learn in time.

Not as of yet; though Akari has a strong level of affinity for Void herself it is not anything near Ryukusa's affinity for Void. This could be changed.

The jade rings are marriage bands, but they are blessed by Amaterasu-Omikami herself. That has to mean something....what exactly, Ryukusa can only guess (and her guess is that it has to do with Inari).

I dunno, but if we become their god-ruler, we'll have to dress the part

Because ningyo are literally only a little more than animals. They have minds which are nearly as - or even more - alien than youkai.

That doesn't make them inherently more or less dangerous though. It helps that Ryukusa is a Water dragonette and not human.

Probably Oba-shit systematically snuffing out any trace of Horobi so that Ryukuza wasn't empowered by prayers to him.

Either that or because Horobi was essentially a Ameratsu's personal assassin and thus was never meant to be in the spotlight.

Maybe it's a secondary effect of how he died

Could be, but it sounds more like it was an orchestrated effort
