Your name is Darien Kells. Unknown to you, you were born with the spark that would launch you through the multiverse. Born on Innistrad, thanks to a fateful metope with a giant zombie and a near-death experience, you were launched through the multiverse and you landed on the strange plane of Lorwyn.

You were captured by a trio of elves and have been taken deep inside one of their forest strongholds, bound by magic to prevent your escape.

- - -

It’s been at least a day since you were brought here. More of those creatures have come down to ogle at you, and whisper to themselves, but you haven’t been able to get a lot of information. You keep hearing about the ‘Exquisite Shal’ and something about ‘Gold-Brow Palace’ but there isn’t much more information you can really get out of them. Guards occasionally walk past, but beyond that you are stuck in a wooden prison.

Across from you is a strange, ugly looking creature. Short, and covered in warts and wearing animal parts all over it’s body. It occasionally looks at you like it wants to communicate, but you aren’t sure how comfortable you are with speaking to something that looks like a mistake you’d find in the back of an alchemist’s lab.

You wait until the guards pass again, then lean over the bar an wave a little to get the creature’s attention. It nods and crawls over to the bars as well.

“Hey. My name is Darien. Where are we?”

“They call me Auntie Swamp-claw. That’s right, that’s right. We’re in the belly of the horny palace. Was looking out for my warren when the lot surprised us. Took all me power to let the little’uns escape. They took my staff and me charms. From the Stinkdrinkers I am. What, my little trinket, are you?” You are a little unnerved by how obsessively she(?) is staring at you, but you are both prisoners, so maybe this could be a fruitful bond.

“I’m Darien. I’m just a human, from Nephalia.”

“Hue-man? Knee-fall-ia? What odd and wonderful names. You must share those with the little boggarts at the warren. We must escape. Quick, quick. Do you have any sharp pointies?”

You do have your knife, hidden well in the pockets of the leather jacket that the horned creatures let you keep. But you aren’t sure if you are comfortable handing it over to this thing. You

You check the hallway once more the make sure that no one would see, and you pull the knife out from your pocket and throw it across the hallway. It sticks in the far wall between the wooden bars and Auntie Swamp-claw pulls it out and admires the craftsmanship for a moment.

“Oh, such shiny. Hehehe.” She flips it over once more and begins chanting to it, and you see a small red and black glow start to seep into your knife. Just as the spell is beginning, you hear the distant sound of cloven feet on the wooden staircase. More guards are coming. You want to warn the boggart, but that might attract the guards attention to the both of you.

You lean back into your cell, trying to make yourself look as inconspicuous as possible. The guards go by, and for a second they almost don’t notice the ritual the beggars is performing. But there is a sudden flash of red energy as whatever she was doing is completed. The elves rush into the cell and grab the beggars, who struggles against the two with all her might.

“You terrible prancing bores! You blighted blue-frogged ballywogs!” The knife drops out of her hands and lands just outside the confines of your cell. The two elves seem too distracted to be able to pick it up at the moments and are hurriedly yelling for backup as they try to contain the remarkably strong creature. You might be able to grab at the knife, but is it wise to implicate yourself like this given you don’t know what kind of magics inhabit it or what you will have to do when the other guards inevitably show up? If you just stay quiet, maybe they will think you had nothing to do with this and leave you be for now.

You grab the knife and stuff it under your jacket. There is the slightest reddish glow, but you can stifle that with only a little effort. You watch as the elves place enchantment after enchantment over Aunti Swamp-claw until they finally have her down.

“Bleed the wood! Break the bones of the forest! Make elvenkind pay for their treachery! Sever the bonds of this mortal co-“ The elves kick her across the face and she is now sitting, bleeding slightly and unconscious. The guards start at you for a moment before they pick up the beggars and start to carry her away. You doubt it will be to a more pleasant destination than these prison cells. You could try to use the knife and see if you can escape to save her, or you could wait until she is gone and then use it to escape.

She's the closest thing we have to an ally. And we should repay her for the charm on the knife.

You decide that you can’t just abandon Auntie Swamp-claw to whatever fate, especially after she was intending to help you out. You aren’t an idiot, and you guess pretty quickly what sort of things the knife might be used for. You stab it into the wooden floor of the cell and see the wood start to turn black and bleed out. You feel a destructive, parasitic kind of magic seep into the wood and soon your bonds are released as the beggar’s charms choke out the life of the tree around you like a weed.

You stumble out of the cell and see the guards about to turn the corner. You could try to rush the guards, stabbing at them and releasing Auntie Swamp-claw from their grasp and then trying to navigate the trees back into the open. Your other option is to wait and follow them as quietly as you can, and catching them at a moment where they leave Auntie alone and the two of you sneaking out together.

Without wasting a moment, you rush up to the guards and stab one of them in the back. The knife seems red and black energy into the elf’s back. The elf began to change, from a bright green hue to the skin tendrils of black energy began to seep up from the knife wound and soon overtook the elf. You could sense he was trying to draw energy from the tree around it, but the polluted wound that you inflicted in your cell was now growing out into the hallway.

Like a fungus, the larger it spread, the faster it went. The other elf, torn between helping his friend and escaping, chose to flee and abandon the other. You picked up Auntie Swamp-Claw and Pressed the flat of the blade against the magical bonds. Luckily it worked and the Auntie is free.

“Hehehe, I knew you would figure it out. Smart little stickler. Now come! We have to recover Auntie’s lovely little things before we return home. Down that hallway!” She points down stairs, where the black tendrils are starting to move. You feel apprehensive, and you see an open window at the top of the stairs that might lead to freedom.

You trust the strange creature and bolt down the steps, hoping to outrun the blight effecting the trees. You hear screams of terror and horror as you go, and you see elves running to escape the rotting flesh of the tree. You head down further and further, until you come to a heavy wooden door. Auntie kicks down the door without much effort, the rot weakening the hinges, and she rushes inside.

She immediately goes to a pile of bookcases and chests, digging through each one and throwing them into piles. She is busy at work trying to retrieve her items, when you feel the tug of magic coming from the piles. Each pile has it’s own unique feel, and something in each of them draws you close.

You have time to go after one item before Auntie finds her tools and you will have to escape before the tree collapses.

Digging through one of the piles, you dig through piles of sheathed knives and armor of various types until you reach the source of the magic. A pristine scroll, tied with a gold ribbon and glowing slightly with power. You pick it up just as Auntie Swamp-claw leaps onto your back and tugs on your hair.

>Obtained: Protection Scroll

“Come little sticky wick, it’s time for us to escape!” The small goblin is now dressed in an elaborate array of bones and strips of skin. In one hand she has a staff that is covered in rudimentary twine that has frog legs and wolf teeth from top to bottom. You groan a little as you stand up and begin to run back. Whenever the building seems to start to come down on you, Auntie Swamp-claw raises up her staff and the wedges of wood evaporate into smoke.

You reach the window and you see that you are barely ten feet from the ground, The tree is now pitch black and it is spreading to the others. Several elves glowing green are trying to stem the damage, but there seems to be little you could do.

“Oh, little one, your magic is potent! Even I couldn’t have spread such disease in those little doe-eyed infants!” Auntie Swamp-claw starts to giggle with glee. You look around, trying to find a way to escape. There are a few of those elk-like things nearby, but there is no guarantee that you will completely know how to control them. Your other option is to just find a weak spot in the walls nearby and claw your way through.

You leap down from the wall, Auntie Swamp-Claw cackling like a witch as you roll across the grass and head over to one of the elk. Some of them seem a bit frail, but at least one is as tall and strong as the wildlife you’ve seen back in Innistrad, and you are sure it could contain your weight.

“Hahaha, stealing a cervin. What an adventure!” the goblin cries out as you pull yourself onto the elk. You grab the reins and snap them tight. The elk lights off and rushes through the underbrush, You hear certain elves crying after you, but given the darkening of the trees and the speed of the elk soon puts them far behind you. After Some time, you break through back onto an open field. In the distance there are high mountains that are covered in giant wafts of clouds. It looks like something out of a fairytale book. Auntie Swamp-Claw digs into your hair again, breaking you out of your stupor.

“Ah, looking at the wide-brimming mountains? The trefoil live there. A lost little thing like you might find a way to your home there, but first you must let me and mine give you a feast! A celebration for saving the Stinkdrinker’s favorite auntie!” She points in a direction, almost at random, and commands you to ride that way.

You are tempted to try to find the ‘Treefolk’, but you follow Aunties’ directions and soon you and your companion are speeding down the glades and hills towards the darkened swamp in the distance. It’s unlike the swamps that you are used to in your home, but swamps full of life and color. Bright birds with streaks of black, colorful flowers blooming from the lilypads. You feel a sense of peace as the cervin bounds over the small patches of solid ground above the muck and water.

Eventually, you reach a giant tree with houses built atop it and stairs climbing up the side. It seems still and lifeless, until Auntie Swamp-claw climbs down and let’s out a shrill yell. Suddenly creatures of all sizes and shapes pour from the holes and surround you and Auntie.

“Yes, yes, Sticky Wick here rescued Auntie Swamp-Claw from the cages of the elves of the Gold Brow and set their trees to melt!” The masses are ecstatic and listening, eventually pulling you and the cervin inside the tree. It is cramped, and there are piles of random trinkets.

“Tonight we will feast, and celebrate the newest honorable member of our warren! Sticky Wick the Large!” Auntie Swamp-Claw declares, and everyone begins to cry out in happiness. You feel al little uncomfortable, with so many goblins crawling over you and pulling at your clothes and hair.

You push aside the discomfort and pay your respects to the people that have opened themselves up to you. Though the night never really comes, the lights in the sky do dim enough to count as a time of feasting. A huge, nearly flat piece of wood is set up and bowls of many different types are placed out on it. Some have small amount of condensation, while others are steaming hot and at least one is actively on fire.

You are placed at the end of the table in a chair that is just slightly too small for you. A bowl of small, wiggling worms and a pile of nearly-crispy frog parts with a little flower placed in the corner are lovingly set before you. A golden cup is set before you and something that smells slightly like alcohol is pour inside. It is a bright blue color and something about it sets your stomach rolling a little. One of the most decorated goblins, sitting between you and Auntie Swamp-Claw, stands up and smashes a glass bowl against the table to get everyone’s attention.

“Now, our guest of honor will have the first bite of food and then the true celebrations can begin!” Everyone is now staring at you intently, waiting for your move.

I am not quite sure what planeswalker quest is. It just caught my eye because I will be retiring from magic the gathering as it is an expensive hobby.

If anyone is interested take a look at this! My entire collection is up for auction, starting at .99 cents.

I have culled out all the garbage cards that are virtually unusable through the years so the lot of over 2k cards is quite useful.

You put on your best smile and your happiest yell as you take a large bite out of one of the frog legs. You’ve had to eat some terrible food in your life, scrolling from the corpses of dead animals when you were stuck in the forest or surviving on insect and moss. But you feel the urge to vomit the second the frog is chewed and down your throat.

All of the other goblins cheer and begin to eat, while you excuse yourself and rush around the back of the tree to vomit. Soon enough, you are joined by at least two other boggiest, but unlike you, they seemed to revel in the sensation of being ill. This things are some sub-species of masochistic monsters you parse out, but they are still welcoming and don’t treat you too differently when you return slightly green in the face.

Eventually you find some black bread and cooked meat that you can keep down, and the blue drink they gave you is decent enough. For the first time since you arrived on this strange world you have a full stomach.

-

After the feast, when the ‘evening’ is at it’s most dim but the sun is still lighting the sky in a brilliant orange and umber. Most of the goblins return to the hovel, but plenty of them to listen to the large goblin that announced the feast earlier as she told stories. Auntie Swamp-Claw is sitting on the edge of the circle, stuffing what looks like a bit of cabbage into a ram’s horn and inhaling the smoke.

You walk around the outside of the Hovel, where a litter of young boggiest were playing around with a ball of yarn with feathers woven into the strands. They kicked it around in some sort of game and you just sat there and smiled at them as they frolicked around. Only the wealthiest children enjoyed the freedom of a safe childhood. The risk of death and danger was a constant threat to you, but this place seemed much more peaceful than the dark corners of Innistrad.

As you sat, you felt a small tug on the side of your belt. You looked down and you saw a small goblin child, wearing clothes that were much too big for him and only kept on by an array of belts and fishing nets, trying to pull the Protection Scroll off of your belt.

“WARGLE!” A motherly looking goblin comes over carrying the butt of a spear tied to a silver spoon. “Where you trying to steal things again? What did I tell you about hoarding objects, ESPECIALLY from the guest of honor whose feastie you just ate at!?” The goblin child looks positively terrified of the woman.

You shrug and confirm that the boy was trying to steal from you. The look of sheer terror on that child’s face as what you assume is it’s mother comes over and starts wacking it with the spoon tugged on your heartstrings a little. But there are few other ways for a child to learn the ways of the world than the application of a little pain. You remembered how your mother would sometimes beat your skin red when you tried to steal things or were caught in a lie. Sometimes you truly corrected your behavior, but in other cases you just learned how to be better at whatever bad thing you were trying to do.

You almost didn’t hear the thundering sound as it approached. It was soft, and in the distance, but enough of the boggarts stopped in their revealry that you turned too. That was when you saw it coming. Some huge, monstrous thing breaking through the trees and muck and carrying a fog with it.

“A MOURNWHELK!” Somebody cried, as the strange snail-creature began to stampede right towards you and the children.
