Yesterday afternoon, after your duel with David, your mom ended up conscripting you to help her repair some training dummies. It wasn’t bad, but really, after lugging all of them around and fetching straw for the better part of three hours, you were exhausted and fell asleep right after dinner.

Now, it’s the morning, and you’re back to your normal early hours. You’ve climbed up on top of the house as the sun slowly begins to rise behind you. A few rows of houses away, you can see the river, still shadowed for the moment, but up here in the cool breeze, there’s just enough light to read by. Reaching into your belt pouch, you pull out the letter and start reading.

‘To the lucky, or at the very least, adventurous, finder of my compass, I leave to you this note, my legacy, and an old dog’s last request.’

This part as no more informative than it was last night, but it’s a long letter, so you read on.

‘My name is Antoin Martellus, slayer of monsters, champion of the weak, and prolific adventurer. During my life, if I am permitted now some small measure of vanity, I have done much. However, I do not pen this letter to enumerate my deeds or wax eloquent on my so called greatness. Indeed, by the time my resting place is found, I do not doubt I will have been forgotten, and that new Heroes will have taken my place. That is the nature of living things after all, that the old be replaced with the new’

‘And that, if you will forgive my longwinded introduction, brings me to the heart of the matter’

‘I have done many things in my life, but I take more pride in the many students I have taught. From those who learned to hold a sword and shield under my banner, to those who came to me in a time of need and learned to stand on their own when I left. For, I have found, that there are many among us who can be great. The true challenge lies in nurturing that greatness.’

[1/2]
>>
>>40525216
‘Now, as I pen this letter with hands that can no longer hold a sword, I have long since grown too old to take on another pupil. But, I feel that I must try all the same. With no children of my own, I felt no remorse spending my accumulated wealth to have several wizards weave a powerful enchantment over my old compass. I now leave this compass to you, that it may serve as a teacher in my place.’

‘I only ask that you follow its needle, or should you not be the adventuring type, that you pass on this letter and the compass to one who will.’

‘I will not mince words. This compass will lead you into danger in order to teach you. It will pit you against foes that seem beyond you, in order to draw out that hidden spark of greatness within. It will even, perhaps, lead you to a place in which you can go no further, in order to show you that you can.’

‘Why, do you ask? Why have I created this compass that seeks danger, and created this seemingly convoluted test? Well that, dear finder, is quite simple.’

‘Our world is always in need of more Heroes, and I only hope, that after I close my eyes for the last time, I will have set in motion events that will lead to the birth of at least one more.’

‘Godspeed, finder. And may Tymera watch your steps.’

===
You set down the letter, and slide it listlessly back into your belt pouch. For a moment you wonder if this man, this Antoin, was reincarnated just like you were.

Certainly he seems like one who deserves it…

Suddenly you feel restless. Like you cannot abide by staying in one place any more. Not with this mantle thrust upon you. You look down at the compass, its needle pointing resolutely to the east. It looks almost sinister now, knowing that it will lead you into danger. But somehow, you feel like you won’t be giving it up.

Still, you need to do something right now…

Welcome to RE: Human quest!
In RE: Human quest, you play as Adria, the young adventurer who’s setting out to make her mark on the world.

Voting period is 10-15 minutes in length. Write ins are accepted but I reserve the right to veto any that I deem unfeasible. Dice are 1d100 and best of three, roll high with modifiers as I give them. I will ask for other dice as needed.

During Combat scenes I cut the voting period to about 7 minutes to keep the pace up. So far that hasn’t been a problem.

Of course. Need her to level Falconer.
>>
I may need a name change soon if I keep attending quests on the board instead of playing catch-up in the archives.

When we get ready to leave, we should look for fox girl and, when she runs away, leave a note for her about us leaving for adventure and never, ever coming back. Give it cute fox ears so she knows its for her. Alternately, if we have a vague idea where she might live, leave it somewhere there.

>>
>>40525652
We are coming back though, I imagine that this time the needle wont take us to far away. speaking of which, if we're going after the needle now that we know what it does, should we pick up explorer?
>>
>>40525683
I'm hoping the white lie will drag her into a confrontation. Y'know, since she tails us everywhere but never talks to us.

It'd be cool if we could use our tactician ability to force a meeting with the fox girl. Treat it like part of a military campaign to hunt down elusive scouts in the region.

I'm trying to get into the mentality of an 80+ year old grandma getting a second shot at life. What fun is life if you can't blow things wildly out of proportion every once in a while?
>>
>>40525234
You’re tempted, for a moment, to gather up some supplies (and your trusty Harpy escort) and just head out after the needle. The biggest reason you’ve been going on quests is to grow stronger, for both your sake and for your friends. This compass promises to be a fast and dirty route to that goal but…

Your encounter with the orcs was only two days ago, and despite everything going well, you know that even a single mistake, or a moment of recklessness, could spell the end of you. You and Sree are getting better, but perhaps it would be prudent to gather a few more ‘party’ members? Granted, that’s hard to do in this city… but you could always begin looking abroad, start following the compass at a later date.

Maybe you can get Arnstein to take a look at the compass?

First though, you should train yourself more, and for that there’s only one option. Quests.

Sliding off the roof and to the cobblestones below, you make your way to the harpy quarter. Mostly, it’s just a part of the city near the walls with an abundance of great oaks. The harpies mostly live in well-constructed nests amidst their branches, while their human mates dwell on the ground below.

You pause beneath Sree’s nest. “Sree!” You call. A fluffy head pokes over the side. “I’m going to take a quest, want to come?” She doesn’t reply, just jumps out of the nest and flutters down to land on your shoulder. The vest makes it comfortable, though you’re still considering a customized piece of leather armor.

By the time you make it to the gate, it’s early morning, and people are beginning to come out onto the streets, businesses are opening for the day. You head for the guards outpost near the gate, where the city guard hands out quests.

[1/2]

>>40525840
“Looking for something to do eh?” The man on duty asks as you walk up. You nod, and he pulls out a roll of parchment. “Well let’s see then… with just the two of yah I’m guessing you don’t want anything over the top right?”

“Yeah, just need something to do. A little extra coin never hurts either.” He laughs.

“Ain’t that the truth! So… well there are a few things that need doing. First off, no one’s scouted up stream since that last flood a week or so ago, so far nothing’s come of it, but it’s always good to know if anything’s changed… A caravan just arrived from Bleakwind, they have some spices and such to unload if yah just want some busy work… that’s about it ‘nless you feel like joining up with a larger group.”

“Hmm?” You and Sree share a glance.

Well this is a perfect opportunity to level falconer if ive ever seen one, should we pick up explorer as well? they sync nicely. not to mention sree cant really carry anything.
That kitsune hero-worships us doesnt she? adorable.
>>
>>40525748
You can always try to catch her.
Also, if you claim a quest you can do it later in the day is well. So if you really want to find the fox girl first...
>>
>>40525958
>>40525860
>>40525900
Know what, I'll change to scout the river. I'm unsure how far the fox girl takes the following, so if she follows us even part of the way along the river, Sree might be able to pick her out for later tracking.

I'd rather not delay other stuff for my suggestion, unless anons really like the idea.
>>
>>40525860
“We’ll take the river job.” You say. “How far up should we go?”

The guard scratches his chin. “Probably up to Tymera’s Crest, if there’s anything farther out than that, it probably won’t matter.” You nod, that’s only a few miles, and the air is relatively clear, so you should be able to see Tymera’s crest from the city. Granted, there are plenty of hills to the north, so some decent scouting is needed.

“Alright. Mark Adria and Sree down for the scouting quest. What’s the pay?”

“Five silver if you just scout the area, one gold if you can bring back a decent map. Two gold if you deal with any problems that you might find.” He says. “Remember, ain’t nobody should be north of Reiln at this time of year, the hills are a great spot for outlaws and other lowlifes to hide. Even if they don’t have bounties on ‘em, they have no business being around the crest.”

You nod. Upstream is protected territory, mainly for the Mermaids as they don’t want people over fishing or dumping waste into the river. Reiln is pretty ecofriendly as far as water conservation is concerned. More than things were back in your last life.

“Right, we’ll see what we can do.” Good thing you picked up that tactician job. You have the feeling that maps are going to be a little easier to put together now than previously, and you leave the guard’s post.

Anything particular you want to do before heading out?

Are spyglasses a thing? Having a telescope could help us find anything Sree sees if we're on relatively high ground.

and after the spyglass?

I'm assuming this is a common quality one and that we might run into more advanced or better crafted versions?

How should we differentiate differing qualities of good? And prefixes that show quality?
>>
>>40526638
We could always try enchanting our own stuff. Having a spyglass that shoots lightning at things like a tiny sniper rifle would be silly, but possibly effective.
>>
>>40526638
You can figure out how good things are if you take the "appraiser" job, or learn the appraise skill. Currently, you're just eyeballing it with basic common sense.

Unlocking that job would require someone to teach you. If you make enough perception checks against the quality of objects, you'll eventually learn the skill.
>>
>>40526192
You decide to grab some travel rations before you go, and you stop by a roadside stall for some dried fish and a hunk of bread. Cheap rations are cheap after all.

When you’re heading to the leatherworkers shop, you catch a glimpse of your illusive stalker once more, before losing sight of her. You basically see her (obliquely, never straight on) at least once every two days, but she never lets you get close. With a role of your eyes, you double back and buy a few squares of fried tofu wrapped in a leaf.

You never ate tofu in your last life, and you were a bit surprised to find it here. Some travelers apparently imported it from across the South Sea, and you’ve heard that kitsune love the stuff.

“Well Sree.” You say. “I’m not sure why I bought some fried tofu, but I think I’ll just hold onto it for now.” She looks at you oddly. “It would be nice to find someone to share it with.”

“Don’t eat vegetables…” Sree mutters, mutinously as you enter Lerayn’s shop. “Can’t make me!”

You chuckle as the door swings shut behind you. There are a few other customers in the shop today, and Lerayn motions that she’ll be with you after she finishes measuring the ones who got there before you.

After they’re gone she rolls up her measuring tape. “Suppose you’re here for the glove then.”

“Yep.” You say. Sree ruffles her wings.

Lerayn eyes you for a moment and then lets out a much put upon sigh. “I was gonna offer to buy it from you, but by the looks of it you aren’t going to sell…” She vanishes into the back room for a moment and returns with the glove. It’s completely repaired, including the hood. For now you just put it on, not like you have much space for it elsewhere.

[1/2]
>>
>>40526792

Hmm... We should have Lerayn teach us the skill if possible. Maybe for a quest or some payment.

We'll appraise everything we come across after all.
>>
>>40526841
“Thanks Lerayn.” You say, testing the fit. “It’s good as new.”

“Of course it is.” She does good work, and she knows she does good work.

After that you head to Crafter’s Row and brows the stalls and shops. You managed to find a decent spyglass for six gold. It’s a sturdy wooden tube, with (according to the shop keeper) three perfectly polished lenses in it. You remember something about how telescopes in your last life used mirrors, which were better, but people here haven’t reached that level of technology yet.

As for potions… well, real health potions, the type that appear in your grandchildren’s games, cost two gold a piece. ‘Regenerative Elixirs’ cost five silver each. They’re about as effect as health potions, just act over a longer time.

The T-square and some basic map making tools cost you the rest of your copper, so you buy those right away.

You also see some ‘smoke bombs’ that a newer alchemist is selling, they aren’t tested though, and cost one silver each.

Spyglass- 6 gold
Health Potions- 2 gold each
Regen Potions- 5 silver each
Smoke bombs- 1 silver each

>What do you buy?

>>40526843
She would be willing to teach it to you, but you'd have to pay her.
Currently, she really doesn't have any quests put up on the job boards. But you could always ask her.
>>
>>40526792

Sree's share was 5 gold. However, she doesn't really need cash. Harpies have a system set up with their human mates. You can ask her, but she'd tell you to spend if.

>>40526923
They're like health pots in Skyrim, instantaneously (or near enough to it) restoring life.

You don't know in character how many hit points you have, but rest assured I am keeping track. To make the game seem more realistic, I'm working more on wound levels, how hurt are you basically.

With Sree’s permission, you splurge. Now, you were never a shopaholic in your last life, but you always did enjoy buying nice clothes and, later on, nice things for the house. How different it feels to be spending money of a rudimentary telescope and health potions.

Both the Regenerative Elixirs come in small glass phials, and they come in a tiny wooden case packed with straw to prevent them from breaking. That, the bronze compass, and the spyglass, barely fit into your belt pouch. You food is kept in a separate smaller, pouch. Actually, you could probably fit it in your purse, what with how empty it is now…

If you go abroad you’ll need a pack.

As you walk past Lerayn’s shop you see one of her customers yelling loudly, something about a cutpurse. Strange.

No fox ears great you leave the city by the north gate. By now it’s about nine in the morning, and the sounds of the city fade behind you as you climb one of the hills for a better vantage point.

“Fly out till the river bends to the west, kay?” You ask Sree. “Stay high.”

“Yes!” With a flap of her wings that buffets your hair she’s off, climbing rapidly. You pull out your spyglass and survey the hills to the north, breaking to sketch you map with you quill. Hmm… charcoal might be nice…

You look down at your map… “Ugh.”

It’s not the prettiest thing you’ve ever drawn. For a moment you contemplate redrawing it, but Sree’s already coming back around. She lands on your shoulder with a flurry of feathers. “Found a camp!” She crows (falcons?) happily. “Fight them?”

You grin. “How many? And can you tell me where they were?” You point at the map.

Sree stares at it for a moment, cocking her head sideways. “Hmmm.” She points a talon at the map, neatly puncturing it. “There.” Well, at least she saved you the ink. “Four of them, humans.” She nods once, before remembering something. “Oh! There, by river bend, I saw squares!”

You blink. “Squares?”

“Yes Yes! White squares, of stone, sticking out of the bank!”

“Huh…” You mark it on the map. That’s Tymera’s crest, the bend in the river. You make a note to check it out later. “Anything else.”

Sree shrugs. “Plants. Lunch.”

“Lunch?” You glance up, noting that her face has a bit of blood smeared on it. “It’s barely breakfast time!” You walk down to the river and wet your sleeve, wiping the stain from her cheeks. Her claws are clean, maybe she preened them?

“Ate before going. So it’s lunch.”

You roll your eyes. “Right, well, we’ve ‘scouted’ the north of the river. And we have a map.” Not a very good one, but still. “That’s a gold coin right there.” Still, there’s that bandit camp to take care of, and the ‘squares’ to look at. What do you plan to do.

“Let’s get a closer look at the bandit camp.” You say. Rolling up your map. “I’ll sneak through the forest and take a look through my spyglass. Stay out of sight from them, I’ll call in a bit to come up with a plan.”

“Call how?” Sree asks, tilting her head.

“Huh? I’ll just-” Then your brain catches up to your mouth. Calling Sree out loud would probably defeat the purpose of sneaking. You’ll probably need to come up with some hand signs or something… how do real falconers do it? Well, that’s neither here nor there for the moment is it?

“I’ll move deeper into the forest, and then you come down and land?” Sree nods. “Right, off you go then!”

You gather up your gear and head into the woods, circling around to the east before approaching the edge of the forest and pulling out your spyglass once more. You have to move around some, but eventually you get a clear line of sight to the camp.

The four men and two women have set up a small campsite, no fire (apparently these ones are moderately intelligent). Right now, two of them are fishing. Three are wearing furs, but one has a guard’s cuirass.

One of them is sharpening a two handed broadsword with a whet stone, while the woman his keeping an eye out, bow strung, though she’s making sure to keep off the tops of hills. One of the men by the river has a cloak on, you can’t see his weapon, and you think there’s a spear and shield by the other man.

Add the cuirass and you have a classic guard’s kit.

After you’re sure you have everything, you slide back into the woods, leaving them none the wiser. And a few moments later Sree lands on your shoulder. “Anyone else nearby?” You ask.

She shakes her head.

“Okay, here’s what we’re going to do.”

>Come up with a plan of attack

If you have any questions, I'll answer them.
Toss around ideas, anything that the two of you could conceivably pull off is fair game.
>>
>>40528121
Well, archer has to go first. Only one that can challenge Sree in the sky, assuming they don't have mages. How close can we get to the camp without being spotted?
>>
>>40528121
Have we confirmed they are bandits?

This group looks competent and is well armed. I'm not that eager to engage them.

Argentorum, how long can Adria hold her breath? longer than an average human? And how clear and deep is the river? I'm thinking of swimming in the river, tug on a rod until it looses from their hands or drag one into the water. The fella will probably run after it while the other laughs at his compatriot. We can then take one out, isolated from the others.
>>
>>40528121
That's 6 people, all of whom seem to know what they're doing, and are better equipped than us.

I say fall back, come back with a bigger party.
>>
>>40528236
>>40528217
>>40528121
Actually I agree with this guy, lets leave to get some help first, Ill just change my plan to Get the hell out.
>>
>>40528236
I'm inclined to agree, they have us 3 to 1 right now
>>
>>40528121
Hey Argentorum, if we use a regen potion now, will it help us in combat at all?
>>
>>40528206
It's in the valley between some hills. However, the archer is patrolling around. She doesn't always have a clear view of the campsite from what you saw, but she checks in often.

You could probably get withing 15 feet of the camp before you were definitely spotted, depending on how well you sneak.

>>40528228
Guard said that no one should be up river this time of year. According to the laws. They're either outlaws or bandits of some ilk, and thus you won't be in trouble for killing them.

Adria can hold her breath for about three and a half minutes, four if she really needs to, but the water is crystal clear.

>>40528236
Only four people. Broadsword, archer, two fishermen (cloak, and guard)

>>40528268
>>40528287
Like I said, only four, sorry for being confusing. Do you still want to get some help?

>>40528296

But it wouldn't last very long.
>>
>>40528236

I am inclined to agree as well. This group is above our pay grade for now. If we got fox girl, I would consider but lets go explode the squares for now.
>>
>>40528311
>Only four people. Broadsword, archer, two fishermen (cloak, and guard)
But you said 4 men and 2 women.
4+2=6
>>
>>40528311
Might be good for freak out value, laughing off their blows as we heal.

Can hide somewhere to ambush the archer on her route with a lightning blast? If she's patrolling, we'll have a bit of time to get in position to intercept her at a late rpoint.
>>
>>40528311
I suggest we knock out the archer while she's patrolling. Then we could probably rush the camp, as only one of them has a weapon, while sree makes divebomb attacks on the fishermen
>>
>>40528121
>>40528311

New plan: Attack the archer where camp isnt clearly visible. move on to attack grindstone guy, sree harries the fisherman as we attack him
>>
>>40528345
Wow I did.
Sorry, I meant three men and one woman, four total.

Really not sure how that happened, sorry guys.

So, knowing that there are only four people, the guy with the broad sword, the archer, the guard, and the cloaked man, what do you guys want to do?

>>40528368
There isn't much tall grass and she's not close to the forest. You could try to sneak up on her from behind, but it would very difficult. Not impossible. Sree could dive bomb her, if she's luck no one from the camp will see her.

>>40528373
The guard has a spear, it's beside him in the grass, the cloaked man you don't know either way.
it will take both of them a round to get on their feet.
>>
How wide is the river? Could we retreat to the other side, possibly with Sree's help if she can carry us?
>>
>>40528411
You could easily swim the river, even with your gear on. The outlaws could conceivably follow you, but the clothing their wearing would slow them down. Except for you cuirass you're very lightly dressed.

Sree can't carry people. They're too heavy.

I'm seeing consensus for picking off the archer, then rushing the man with the broadsword while Sree harries the fishermen.
Confirm?

You can take a swing at the guy sharpening his sword as you run by. I'm only bringing this up because you aren't giving them much reason to chase you.
>>
>>40528693

...

Oh, didn't know we were running right through their camp. I thought we'd be bypassing the camp and making a run for the river.

If thats the case, we should do a run by lightning sword slash.
>>
>>40528693
We don't need to. Launch magic at them from afar if they don't follow. If they run, the problem is still solved.
They probably won't want to stick around this area after losing a member and potentially putting the nearby town on alert.
Essentially, I'm advocating playing it safe. if they'd rather run than engage, I'm fine with that.
>>
>>40528731
>>40528743
Okay, so after killing the archer, swim across the river and throw lightning at them from the far side?

Sorry, misinterpreted where you guys were going.

That is a viable option. Finishing up the next post now.
>>
>>40528765
Misinterpreted what I was suggesting, at least. The others may have been under the same misconception when I suggested it.

Anyone else want to approach this differently? Last chance, I guess.
>>
>>40528693
I am still voting to take down the broadswordsman with our lightning sword, and having Sree take out the fishers when they're distracted.

Sending electricity through a large body of moving water won't end well.
>>

You point out a spot that the archer passes through every five minutes or so, and tell Sree to dive her when she passes by again. After your friend takes to the air, you get into position. There aren’t many good hiding spots in these low and grassy hills, but you manage to find one. Somehow.

As you wait, you’re reminded of a line from one of your favorite movies. You mouth it silently as the sound of footsteps draws closer.

“Pick up one of those rocks, hide behind the boulder. In a few minutes, the man in black will come running around the bend. The moment his HEAD is in view, hit it with the rock!”

There she is now, almost in position, with no idea you’re there. You move into a crouch, sword at the read. Just in time to see Sree plunge from the sky.

“My way’s not very sportsman-like.” You charge.

The archer gasps staggering backwards as Sree’s claws gore her face, too shocked even to scream. Her bow clatters to the ground as you close the distance behind her with sure strides. Sword at the ready. Before she even knows you’re there, your blade slides home into her back, popping out of her chest with a wet *shlick*. She whimpers for a moment, a sounds so full of fear and pain that you almost draw back, before going limp.

You catch the woman around the waist, and lower her gently to the ground.

Well that was it then. You just killed your first human being.

You let out a breath, closing your eyes for a moment to center yourself again. Sree lands, laying a wing across you back, and you lean into her. Okay, you can deal with this later, right now you have to finish off the rest of them before they now anything is wrong.

[1/2]
>>
>>40528885
You pull out your sword. Wiping the blood on the grass. Slowly, you roll the woman over and- gods below her face is a mess. Talon marks run down her cheeks and shoulders, blood leaking into the grass at a dribble. You reach up and close her eyes, laying her out in a dignified manner. Then you rise.

She takes to the air again, she'll attack after you made your move.

You secure your possessions in their various pouches and start making your way towards the camp, keeping quiet while Sree circles high overhead. Once there’s only one small hillock between you and the three remaining outlaws you slow.

You circled to the north of the camp, so you could creep down between where the fishers and Broadsword are sitting. Unless they’ve moved, both should be facing away from you. Slowly you move closer, catching sight of their sleeping rolls and bags. No one sees you. You’re twenty feet away from the broadswords man, the sound of the river masking you footsteps. Then ten, still, no one turns.

You go for style points.

Slowly, you lift your blade up in the air as you pad across the grass towards your target. Each foot perfectly placed, each inch as silent as the midnight breeze. You were ten feet away, now you are five. Surely he’s heard you by now? But somehow, be it the rush of the water or the rasp of the grindstone or some hand of fate down upon you, he does not turn his head.

Four feet, and now you’re timing your steps to match the grind of the whet stone. Three feet, and you can barely keep your breath quiet. Two feet and surely- surely! The frantic pounding of your heart has given you away, but no!

One foot away. You take a step, and grab his long matted hair. Before he can so much as blink you yank his head back and ram your sword down. Through his neck, into his chest and stomach, like you’re trying to drill a hole through him.

Poor bastard doesn’t even have time to scream.

“Symalk’s Teeth!”

You spin, yanking your sword out of the outlaw as you do. Blood sprays everywhere as Guard and Clock scramble to their feet, hands on their weapons.

Sree swoops down, carrying the cloaked man. But he gets his arms up before she can do too much damage, and Guard forces her to rise with his spear. Cloak is stumbling as she circles around for another pass.

Sneaking, though, we've always been decent to awesome at.

Sweet. First roll I caught in awhile too.

>>40529630
The guard’s eyes snap firmly to you when, with a flick of your sword, you ignite the magic in your veins, causing lighting to run rampant across the blade even as you close distance. He tries to keep you at bay with his spear but you knock it aside and stab your sword through his shield.

He tries in vain to pull away, his own shied now keeping him stuck in place, your sword hits his chest, and the lighting courses through him. He screams, entire body clenching as muscles and tendons and nerves spasm under the onslaught.

When you pull your sword out, he staggers backwards, toppling into the river with nary a word. He bobs once in the current before his armor drags him down. If he wasn’t dead, he will be before even you could reach him.

Hope the mermaids downstream don’t mind another man vying for their attention!

When you look to your right you see the Sree has the rouge pinned to the ground with one talon, daggers out of sight. He’s still breathing, which makes you realize how horrible you’ve been so far at taking prisoners of any type. Still, you are within full right of the law to kill him. Or you could tie him up and send him packing back to town.

>Finish the job.

You pulse the lighting on your blade once more to evaporate the last of the blood before dispelling it. Afterwards you sheath your sword and pull the length of rope from your belt.

“Umm hey!” The rouge starts “I wasn’t really-“

“Shut up, and Roll over. Put your hand behind your back.” You say. You’re not in the mood for this. Quickly you tie his wrists together. When he opens his mouth to talk again you say. “If the next words out of your mouth aren’t the location of all of your money, I might just reconsider taking you prisoner.”

He quickly tells you where everything is. You come out of it with eight silver and seven copper. Plus any of their weapons you bother to pick up. There’s a few firs, some basic supplies and four bed rolls (though you’d much rather buy your own, thank you very much). However, the piece de resistance, or however you spell it, is a gold and ruby signet ring, bearing a crest.

You assume, and your prisoner confirms, that he and the guard stole it from a lord of the Jaw. Their whole group was laying low north of Reiln after several days travel to the west. After a while they probably would have taken it to a fence and sold it, but that’s neither here nor there anymore.

Then, after all the looting is finished for the moment, you plop down and sigh.

You’re pretty damn exhausted after sweeping the camp. The rouge, learning after you kicked him in the ribs a few times remains silent. You close your eyes and lean back, it’s closer to noon non. You figure you could go investigate the squares or-

“A-ano…!”

You eyelids flutter open. Standing in front of you is a two tailed kitsune. Rather, the one you saved two years ago and has been dogging you steps ever since. How did she get out here? Was she following you the whole time or something?

You blink once as she fidgets, expecting her to disappear before you open your eyes again. Nope, still there.

“Ah- ano… please…” She’s holding something behind her back. “p-please…” What is this? Are you dreaming again? You open your mouth to say something but before you can she whips the object from behind her back out and presents it to you with a bow, shouting:

“Watashi ga tsukutta obento wa uketotte kudasai!”

That's all this time folks! Thanks for Playing!
Hope you enjoyed your fox girl!

Job and Ability updates will appear next thread, you gained several levels and unlocked a new job.

Any questions before we go?

>>40530319
Actually (you don't know this in character, but you'll find out soon enough) she does speak River speech, she was just really nervous and lapsed back into Japanese.

This may or may not happen continuously.
>>
>>40530300
Give her the Tofu.
>>
>>40530300
I'm guessing when we saved her all that time ago, she didn't understand what we were saying and freaked out, huh?

This'll be interesting. Is she offering a handmade lunch or something?
>>
>>40530357
Is Bandit an actual job class? It seems like it would be, since crime is still a job of sorts.
>>
>>40530364
I think she is in fact offering us a lunch. then again i dont speak japanese, I'm using google.
>>
>>40530402
Non of them were bandits. Debating making it a job class, but it's a bit to 'catch all' for my tastes.

The enemies you fought were a Rouge, a Guard, an Archer, and a Heavy Swordsman.

>>40530364
She understood parts of it. Her 'english' has come along way since then.

>>40530425
What she said was "Please accept this bento that I made!"

Bentos are Japanese lunch box. Usually they're a full meal, like lunchables except not shit.
>>
>>40530456
>Bentos are Japanese lunch box. Usually they're a full meal, like lunchables except not shit.
Your description has brought me great amusement.
>>
>>40530456
Y'know, although this is cute, I'm now disappointed we can't draft a war campaign to find and extract our foxy friend from the area of operations and into an interrogation chamber (our house).
>>
Cute fox girl confirmed! Let the waifu wars begin!
I kid of course. It is far too soon.
>>
>>40530553
Well since Adria had grandkids before she died, I'm fairly certain she's straight.
>>
>>40530581
Maybe fox girl has a cute fox brother?
>>
>>40530581
Perhaps. However she was born in a different time.

There weren't really gay people (or at least not openly gay people) around when she was growing up.

Question for you all. Do you prefer more monstergirls? Or would you like an elf/human/dwarf thrown into the mix

Male characters part of the main cast?
>>
>>40530545
our character is 17, we have time to become a Grand-General Falconeer Swordmage! (among other things) and do just that.

>>40530581
True, though a study done at i dont know what institution has found that many women become far more fluid with their sexuality as they age. however I'm not sure how many confirmatory studies have been done.
>>
>>40530628
I would like to see other mortal races, and males, brought onto the cast.
>>
>>40530599
We'll see.

>>40530628
This is Re:Human quest so more humans elves and dwarves is fine. As far as her sexuality, I'm figuring she's at worst Bi since she loved her husband and all.

>>40530630
I don't doubt she may be up for some experimentation, but still.

>>40530673
This pretty much.
>>
>>40530628
I am for a healthy mix of monsters and mundaneish, male characters are good, though for some reason quests seem to better if the male cast is no more than a quarter to a third of the main group. could just be my minimal experience with quests though.
>>
>>40530628
Definitely more people with classes I want to see if there is Class Synergy for Parties
>>
>>40530628
I'm neutral in all cases. I'd prefer to keep the main cast tight, because this feels like it'll end up too much like REQM's stuff.

Male characters might open the doors to husbando wars(?), but I'll go with the flow on that. Being the girl half in a romance subplot isn't really something I get behind, but if others like it, I can deal with it.
>>
>>40530628

All I am going to say, that if she does end up with a girl, there must be a scene her lamenting all that extra sex she could have been having if she had been open to girls in her past life
>>
I prefer pure monstergirls. But that is just because i'm too p/u/re.
>>
>>40530628

Kitchen. Sink.

All the works.

Although vanilla is an excellent flavour as well.
>>
>>40530717
>Male characters might open the doors to husbando wars
>might open the doors
>might
It's pretty obvious it will mate
>>
Well, since I startes this I might as well say it. Maybe we should hold off on even figuring out Adria's sexuality (possibly permanently) at least until we fill out the cast a bit more.
>>
>>40530735
I've seen /tg/ devolve into shitflinging over waifus, but not husbandos. That's more because of a non-existent sample size for me to know though. Husbandos don't come up too much...
>>
>>40530744
Like that'll stop people from waifuing/ Husbandoing
>>
>>40530795
A man can dream cant he!? Even if his dreams be impossible a man may dream them!
>>
>>40530673
Monsters are mortal.
Technically they have shorter lifespans than humans, except if they keep evolving they can keep pushing it.

I will include some non monster race character though and try and think up some interesting male characters.
In my experience male characters on TG tend to get rather flat. For various reasons.

>>40530717
The main cast will top out at two more characters max. Probably both males.

>>40530735
>It will
Just watch as ship your two monster girl waifus with your two nonmonster husbandos.

>>40530728
I see what you did there.

>>40530726
I will consider it.

>>40530744
Yeah shipping won't be a thing till much later.

One last set of questions. How do you want this quest to go as a whole?
>Lone adventurer with a close group of followers, living life with swords in hand against a wide, wonderful, terrifying world
>Defender of the river lands and in innocent therein, staying close to home, but never still as she and her friends struggle to bring about lasting piece
>A master tactician who slowly moves from small scale engagements to larger and larger theaters of battle, until she finds herself at the head of a vast army, fighting for something greater than herself or any of her friends.
>Something else?

Note that, these need not be mutually exclusive, and even if you go macro, you will still be able to 'lead from the front' as it were. This is just so I know which direction we should head in

inb4 all three
>>
>>40530845
Honestly really just hoped this doesn't turn into another /u/ quest tbh....Not enough straight quests with female pcs
>>
>>40530845
>Lone adventurer with a close group of followers, living life with swords in hand against a wide, wonderful, terrifying world
>>40530875
I'm of the opposite opinion on both points. Too many straight female MCs out there and not enough les.
>>
>>40530845
>Something else?
Just go with the flow mate

>>40530845
Combine adventures with friends with master tactician, perhaps be a mercenary-general for a few years? at least until we have all the lords wanting to hire us.
>>
>>40530875
>>40530893
Would you be open to a bi PC who has two partners?

Just getting the lay of the land here.
>>
>>40530893
>Too many straight female MCs
Oh please do tell me how many can you name currently? As in actual quests with a completely straight female MC, Not bi
>>
>>40530925
As far as I've seen, some female PC's (though not even a majority) don't even into romance.

You know, gen.
>>
>>40530922
personally, why stop at two. also, You were planning for that werent you?
nice pun by the way
>>
>>40530845
>Ship waifus with husbandos
Will you do that, or will we? I'm a shipper at heart, so if it's playing matchmaker to everyone BESIDES us...

Torn between
>Lone adventurer with a close group of followers, living life with swords in hand against a wide, wonderful, terrifying world
and
>A master tactician who slowly moves from small scale engagements to larger and larger theaters of battle, until she finds herself at the head of a vast army, fighting for something greater than herself or any of her friends.

I suppose the first flows into the second.
>>
>>40530922
No, No i wouldn't be
>>
>>40530845
Us being the leader cause we're the best at tactics while we adventure with our friends through good times and bad.

>>40530875
Same

>>40530893
Anon Unless the qm railroads it a female pc is always lesbian, or "bi' which means lesbian without the stigma.

>>40530922
I could see her up for experimentation, but honestly? Rather see her interesting mostly in guys. It'd be a change of pace.
>>
>>40530922
Hey, if you could work it well, I could go any way.
>>
>>40530845
>>Lone adventurer with a close group of followers, living life with swords in hand against a wide, wonderful, terrifying world
Rolling into
>A master tactician who slowly moves from small scale engagements to larger and larger theaters of battle, until she finds herself at the head of a vast army, fighting for something greater than herself or any of her friends.

Just basically not wanting to be tied down anymore. She spent her whole previous life being the Housewife, Now is the time to keep going And leaving a string a broken hearts that wanted to settle down with her
>>
So, the reason with most PCs being lesbians. most of /tg/ is straight males, they arent exactly good at romancing guys
>>
>>40530944
Who knows.
I'm certainly considering it.
More than two is stepping into Naruto Harem Territory. And while Guide has done a good job with Harem protag quest, I don't want to tread in that territory.

That's mostly why I'm hesitant to follow this route in the first place.

>>40530946
They do flow. I won't have NPC lining up to form a mercenary guild, but as time goes on I'll add some chances to recruit and try my hand at larger operations.

>>40530976
I see what you did there.

Okay I lied about it being the last question.
If I do end up running larger scale battles, would you prefer to only play as the MC, or play as different characters across the battlefield?
>>
>>40531008
MC only, but maybe if we level Tactician enough we could give out orders to our party?
>>
Hellborn and Minotauress are two straight fem PCs off the top of my head. Most of the others that I all follow are mostly gen or just no romance as of yet.
>>40531008
single person is my own preference.
>>
>>40531008
Only the MC, maybe you could take some tips from AEQ, use it for some ideas.
>>
>>40531008
Different characters. It'll let us stay close to the combat if we want, even if our MC is holed up somewhere directing the flow of battle.
>>
>>40531008
Only as the MC, combat is always the slow part of a quest and making it longer just sucks.
>>
>>40531019
Most of tacticians abilities help you co-ordinate units on the field.

>>40531048
Huh, I though I was doing pretty well with the combat.
>>
>>40531008
Only mc
>>
>>40531071
You are doing good with combat, I think anon was speaking in general terms.
>>
>>40531038
Hellborn was railroaded cause players pushed for adoptive sister HARD, and minotauress is almost a smut quest.

>>40531071
Declaring actions and the rolling for everyone makes it drag, You've done great so far though.
>>
>>40530845
>A master tactician who slowly moves from small scale engagements to larger and larger theaters of battle, until she finds herself at the head of a vast army, fighting for something greater than herself or any of her friends.
>>
>>40531048
Seems more like the other way here. Figuring out our tactics took longer than the combat did here.

>>40531071
Still, I'm pretty relaxed about it either way. Maybe we could reserve character swapping for genre shifts, like how AEQ did dungeon runs with Tarfinn (I think).
>>
>>40531110
In the hellborn players quest, adoptive sister is a well developed character.
>>
>>40531110
>and minotauress is almost a smut quest.
Ahahahahaha!
It is one obviously, Have you seen his last quest?
>>
>>40531142
hellborn players' defence* damn my english.
>>
>>40531142
Very true. I haven't been able to catch up with it recently, and really I was dreading the 'save an alternate dimension' arc, cause I knew it would take forever.

Really all I wanted to do is explore Sierra's demonic heritage more.
>>
>>40531142
Because anons spent time with her to the point of ignoring everyone else so they could have /u/ which Languid said no to, repeatedly. Still they didn't get the hint so she got all the development.

>>40531148
Yeah I was giving it a benefit of the doubt.
>>
>>40531071
You're doing well so far, but it's VERY easy for it to bog down. We also haven't seen anything resembling a large engagement that wasn't rather one-sided, so I'm not sure how smoothly those will go.
>>
>>40531163
Your English is pretty well un-damned if you remember to put an apostrophe with no s afterward for plural ownership.
>>
>>40530845
>Lone adventurer with a close group of followers, living life with swords in hand against a wide, wonderful, terrifying world
Alternatively
A master tactician who slowly moves from small scale engagements to larger and larger theaters of battle, until she finds herself at the head of a vast army, fighting for something greater than herself or any of her friends.

Preferably the first though
>>
>>40531183
I'm planning larger engagements to be more the tactics part, and less the rolling.

Your part in larger engagements will be
a) large scale maneuvers/'fleet' actions
b) Deciding where to commit your elite unit (yourself included)

Mainly, I think it will be me rolling more and telling you how the battle goes, though I'll work up to it.

The start of it will be much the same as it is now, you telling individual people where to be and what to do. As tactician levels up, you'll get more tricks to do group actions in combat.

Eventually, individuals will be replaced by groups. So on and so forth.

I think I might need a general job in order to streamline things.
>>
>>40531255
Really sounding like AEQ here now.

I think Aspiring Emperor Quest actually did a thread where the QM went over everything that went right/wrong with the quest after several hundred threads. It'd be worth checking the archives for it.
>>
>>40531226
Alternately, you could be the master tactician for someone else's army, and also the leader of one of their elite units.

Though really, that seems kinda awkward, leading from the front is good, but having your tactician lead from the front?

On another note, I was actually surprised we hit auto sage this time around. Didn't think we'd make it.

>>40531287
I'll give it a look. Though, like I've been suggesting, this 'ramp up' will be slow and you guys will be able to say "Hey, I don't want to lead an army, instead I just want my friends, and then ten mooks".

Also, I think jobs will help keep even larger battles more personal. And reward you for being involved instead of just tacticalling everything.
>>
>>40531287
>>40531255

Or not. AEQ is only in the 70s. Could have sworn there was a C preceding those thread titles.
Tracked down the recap thread.

Ty I'll read it.
>>
>>40531255
define tactician as a stepping stone to general or an offshoot? base them on the scale they are capable of working at? a tactician can work well on a small scale while a general has the experience for larger engagements?
>>
>>40531351
No prob. Some of it won't apply here, since AEQ is part civ-based, but things like making the world react realistically to our success/failure and dealing with crunch could be relevant. See what you yourself have a taste for, if you haven't done this before.
