You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

You left Morsland with Daniel, Sirus, and your honor guard a few days ago, and have now returned to the White Watchtower. The Knight-Captain, Laurentius, wanted to speak with you immediately.

After returning to the White Watchtower, the Knight-Captain asked to speak with you privately. Parting ways with your friends and Sirus, you now sit in front of Laurentius' desk, waiting for the old elf to speak.

“So, how was your trip?”

“It was fine sir.”

“Good, good. Back at the tower bridge I saw that you brought two new people with you. New recruits?”

“Yes sir.”

“I see, that's good. We'll need all the help we can get. I suspect we'll receive more recruits once word of the attack spreads as well. More importantly, however, we need a Champion, which is why I wanted to speak with you.”

“I thought as much.”

“Siegfried, we don't have time to wait anymore. The demons have attacked us, who knows if they'll attack again. We need a Champion Siegfried, we don't have the luxury of waiting any longer.”

>”I know, sir. I've already talked to Galadriel about it.”

You scratch the back of your neck nervously. "Yeah, about that..."

"Did something happen?"

"Yeah, I spoke to Galadriel the day after the invasion actually. We talked about it and I figured even with Andras out of commission, I'm still in too deep to turn back now."

"Then you've decided to become the official Champion?"

"Yes sir."

Laurentius sighs with relief. "Finally. To be honest, I expected this to happen sooner or later, thankfully it's sooner rather than later."

"You expected this to happen?"

Laurentius begins to pull out several papers from the drawers of his desk. "In the 1500 years that Galadriel has assisted mankind in it's crusades, I have never once heard of her choosing a temporary Champion. It was desperate circumstances which brought you together, but I suspected she would accept you in time. The real question was when you would accept the task."

Something about the way he says that rubs you the wrong way, but you learned a long time ago that it's best to just grin and bear it when a superior officer pisses you off. Thankfully Reinhardt isn't here right now, he never really learned that lesson and the last thing you'd want him to do is to get in trouble on his first day here.

"So, what happens now?"

Laurentius closes the drawer he was pulling papers out off. "Now, you and your honor guard start training. You've been through the basic training already, but as Champion you'll need to know more than the basics, as will your honor guard. Therefore, we'll start your training effective immediately."

"Immediately?"

"Right after breakfast."

"That soon? Sir, we just got back."

"There's a Crusade coming, Siegfried. As I said, we don't have the luxury of waiting. I need you and your honor guard to be ready as soon as possible. After your training's done, you'll also be heading to Galloway and Belmore to rally the towers and drum up support for the coming Crusade."

"How long will training take?"

"Hard to say, I'd guess roughly a month. I'll make sure all necessary preparations are made before your trip, but in the meantime you and your honor guard will be training with the best of our officers. As soon as breakfast is over, I want you and your honor guard to head to the training yard. Are there any questions you have for me before then?"

"What exactly will training consist of?"

"First, you and your honor guard will go through combat training. You and your honor guard need to know how to fight as one unit in the face of adversity. Instructor Leonard will be watching over that part of your training. Next, you and your honor guard will have magic lessons. All recruits here are taught the basics of sorcery, but you will be learning more advanced spells together. After dinner you'll be free to spend your time as you see fit, but I ask that you and your honor guard spend it productively."

"Alright. Speaking of the honor guard, I wanted to ask you about a possible addition."

"Who exactly did you have in mind?"

"My friend Reinhardt. He decided to join after the invasion."

"One of the new recruits? That can be arranged, though he'll have to spend time learning the basics alongside the training you and the rest of your honor guard will be taking."

"Thank you sir."

"If there isn't anything else, then you should head down to the dining hall. Breakfast starts soon."

The dining hall is crowded as usual, and very few empty seats remain. Thankfully, your friends have reserved you a seat as usual. You see Daniel, Erika, Justine, Joan, Ganelon, Nerillian, and Reinhardt here, but Sirus is nowhere to be found. Fine by you honestly.

"Sweet Aureus Sieg, you never told me they had food this good here." Reinhardt says, already digging into his breakfast.

"I didn't expect it either. Gunther's a damn good cook."

"Indeed, we're blessed to have him here." Daniel agrees. "By the way, what did you discuss with the Knight-Captain earlier? Did you tell him about your discussion with Galadriel?"

"Yeah, I did. Seems he wasn't all that surprised though. He's already assigning us more training like you said, right after breakfast."

"Wait, us?" Erika asks through a mouthful of food.

"Yup, he said everyone in the honor guard has to be there too."

"Ha, sucks to be you then." Reinhardt teases.

"What are you talking about, you're coming too."

>>
>>40503664
>Did anyone else seriously want to find a champion rather than have Siegfried do it?

As in us the players or the characters?
>>
>>40503818
Players. Because pushing for snark and joking about Galadriel coming back to us every couple of months generally implied a serious reluctance to being the champion.
>>
>>40503664
Yes with the thought of her failing and coming back to us, and in character absolutely if we new earlier i doubt we would have went to the festival.
>>
>>40503868
We go for snark because that's part of Siegfried's established character, usually to make light of a situation.

The joke about Gal crashing through the roof going 'It's Crusading time!' is really just a joke about how funny that scene and events would play out. But in all honesty that would grind pacing down to a halt.
>>
>>40503900
Was it not obvious that taking down a giant multi-headed beast and getting Alastor's interest is well beyond "too far" and straight into "you're deep in this shit now" territory?

Was anyone really expecting anything else when they voted to fight?
>>
>>40503900
>in character absolutely if we new earlier i doubt we would have went to the festival.

Actually I think the opposite. If Sieg knew that Andras was taking the last weapon against demons away and destroying it I think he would double time it. As much as he complains the dude steps up when he needs to.

You eat quickly and wait for the others in your honor guard to finish. Just as you're about to leave and part ways with Daniel, a servant comes and asks Daniel to come along as well, as Leonard needs his help with training. Shrugging, you and everyone else head out to the training yard together.

The training yard is even more lively than usual. Maybe it's because they know a Crusade is coming. Watching over them is Leonard, who approaches you as soon as he notices you.

"There you are. Knight-Captain Laurentius told me I'm to be training you again."

"Yes sir. How much did he tell you?"

"Everything, I know about you and Galadriel already. I hear there's a new recruit you're bringing into your honor guard as well."

"That'd be Reinhardt, sir." You tell him, pointing to your friend.

"I see. Tell me Reinhardt, how much experience do you have with fighting?"

"Well, I'm still alive after Morsland got hit. I guess that counts for something. Besides that, just basic training in the guard."

"I see. Normally, I'd have you spar with one of the others, but since your part of the honor guard and I don't have time to watch you both, you'll just have to learn faster than most."

"What exactly are we doing, sir?"

"Grab a practice weapon and follow me, you'll see in a moment. Siegfried, bring Galadriel with you, you'll be using her for this exercise."

Leonard leads you out of the crowded training yard and into the fields outside the watchtower. Once you've come to a large open field, you see Galmar and Logain, your old superior officers from back when you were on patrol, waiting for you.

"Why hello again Siegfried." Logain says, friendly as usual.

"Hello sir. What brings you two here?"

"They're here to help with your training, the same reason I asked Daniel to come along as well."

"What exactly are we doing then?"

"Sparring." Leonard answers.

"All of us?"

"Yep, though the rules are a little different here. Any demon army will have a leader of some sort, and usually it will be the strongest one of them. If the leader is killed, the armies become disorganized and often fall apart. Thus, the easiest way to defeat a demon attack is to kill it's leader. As Champion, your job in battle will be to kill the enemy's leader, and your honor guard's job is to protect you while you do so. For this exercise, it will be Daniel, Galmar, Logain, and myself against you and your honor guard. I will be leader of this team, while you will be leader of your team. The goal is to defeat the enemy leader, so your honor guard will have to protect you while my team does the same for me."

"Is that fair sir? There's eight of us and only four of you."

"I wouldn't worry about that." Leonard says. "The four of us are senior officers for a good reason. Now, head to your side and we'll begin on my signal."

You shrug, and head to the other side of the field with your honor guard.

"Is everyone ready?" Leonard calls from the other side. "Good, then training begins now!"

Look, I can't speak for everyone here, but I have made a genuine effort so far to vote in accordance with Seig's depicted character. When I voted to fight that thing, it wasn't because I figured it would lead the quest in any particular direction. I voted because for that because the alternative was seeing a lot of innocent people we were trying to rescue get killed, and as a town guard and reasonably decent person that wouldn't sit right with Sieg. At least not when he was the only one with the means to do something about it.

Thinking quickly, you give orders to the rest of your honor guard.

"Nerillion, Roland, you take care of Daniel. Joan, Ganelon, you handle Galmar. If you can do it without seriously hurting him, try using a lightning spell of some sort. Justine, you handle Logain. Reinhardt, Erika, and I will handle Leonard. Go!"

With everyone given a job to do, the honor guard splits up to attack their given targets. Joan begins muttering muttering an incantation with Berry's help while Ganelon approaches Galmar with his mace. Nerillian begins to firing arrows at Daniel while Roland closes in. However, Galmar steps in front of Daniel to block the arrows with his shield, now standing between Roland and Daniel. Ganelon engages Galmar while Roland tries to get around Galmar, and Daniel begins muttering an incantation as well. Justine rushes towards Logain with her spear, while Logain simply smiles and begins strumming his lute.

You mutter the incantation for Haste, casting it on yourself, Reinhardt, and Erika. You rush toward Leonard, intending to gang up on him when suddenly you and Reinhardt freeze up. The sound is Logain singing something that sounds like an incantation of sorts, and when you move your eyes (the only thing you can move), you see that Justine has frozen up just before she could get to Logain as well. Joan, Ganelon, and Erika can still move, but Roland is now frozen in place as well.

Seizing his chance, Leonard sidesteps Erika and rushes towards you, jabbing his spear into your chest. Were this not practice, that might have been a fatal blow. Instead, it just hurts and knocks you flat on your back.
>>
>>40505223
>35/40 HP remaining

Thankfully, the attack seems to have ended the spells effects, and you are able to roll out of the way as Leonard jabs his practice spear into the ground where you once were. You get back up on your feet quickly, and survey the situation. Roland is still frozen and Daniel is charging his spell. Ganelon is not frozen and fighting with Galmar. Joan is charging her spell. Erika is unfrozen and coming to help you fight Leonard. Reinhardt is frozen and being ignored. Justine is frozen a few feet away from Logain, who is still singing to keep the spell in effect.

"Be right back Erika." You say, quickly shifting Galadriel into a halberd and dismissing your shield. Leonard tries to stop you before you can get away, but you dodge his attack and finish the incantation for blink, teleporting behind Logain.

Logain does not notice you're behind him before you sweep his feet with Galadriel and hit him again while he's on the ground, knocking the wind out of him. As soon as he stops singing, the others are able to move again.

Daniel finishes his spell, and you see Leonard, Galmar, Logain, and Daniel's feet begin to glow. You recognize it as a Haste spell.

Leonard is currently engaged with Erika and Reinhardt, who attacks Leonard from behind now that he's not frozen.

Galmar tries to rush over and help Logain, but is blocked by Ganelon. During the fighting, Galmar is hit by a bolt of lightning from Joan. Surprisingly, he keeps fighting as though nothing happened.

Daniel begins muttering another incantation, just as Roland arrives and starts jabbing at him with his spear. Daniel dodges, but given his age you doubt he can keep it up for long.

Logain rolls away before you can hit him again and begins strumming his lute again. As he does, he starts backing up towards Leonard.

>Plan of attack?

>>
>>40505772

Charge Logain but as a feint, casting Blink again as we do so. Leo will probably try to protect him so Blink as he does a few meters ABOVE him and come down with a hammer. Then when he is staggered, turn around and attack Logain again.

Try to cast Flash in front of Lenard, then have Erica and Reinhardt trip him into Logain to distract him, then help out Roland with Daniel.

I think in a previous thread, Galadriel said that angels could do that but don't because they see that mortals have their own strengths, which might be lost if they were converted to angels.
Demons have no respect for mortals or their lives. so, demons have no problems converting people, even if hundreds die to make one demon.
>>
>>40505772
You charge towards Logain, as though you're planning to attack him again. Leonard notices this, and quickly trips Reinhardt and rushes to help, Erika following hot on his heels.

Just as you get to Logain, you blink above Leonard's head and shift Galadriel into a two handed hammer, and bring it down on him. Were you not using Galadriel, you'd be worried about killing him, but since you are you bring the hammer down with all your might.

Leonard realizes what's happening just a tad too late. Though he manages to avoid getting hit in the head, you bring Galadriel down on his shoulder with a loud WHAM. The blow knocks him to the ground, but he quickly recovers and rolls to his feet again.

Following up, you swing the hammer at Logain, who turns around just in time to see you smash the hammer into his gut, knocking the wind out of him again. Coming from the side, Justine swings the butt of her spear into the back of Logain's head, knocking the jovial dwarf out cold.

Nerillian lets an arrow fly aimed at Daniel. Galmar, too far to block with his shield, instead shouts what sounds like a very short incantation, causing a blue glowing hand to materialize and catch the arrow in mid flight. While he does this, however, Ganelon lands a solid blow to his knee with his mace, bringing the giant knight down to one knee.

Daniel, upon noticing what's happening to Galmar, dodges one last jab from Roland and, to your surprise, grabs the top of his staff and pulls, revealing a blade hidden inside and knocks the spear out of Rolands hands in a single deft movement that causes you to stare in surprise. Roland, equally surprised, fails to stop Daniel before he finishes his incantation, which causes three bubbles of force to surround Galmar, Leonard, and himself. He then sheathes the hidden blade in his staff once again, and begins muttering another incantation between huffs as he tries to catch his breath.

Reinhardt is picking himself up off the ground behind Leonard. Leonard, surrounded by his force bubble, begins to back slowly towards Galmar and Daniel. Justine and Erika are at your side.

It's also for religious reasons. Mortals were a creation of Aureus, the god that they were born from. That's another reason why they don't like the idea of turning mortals into angels, because it's essentially meddling with their progenitor's "craftsmanship" and they don't like doing that.

How bout a compromise.

Feint charge again and Blink far past them in the field, opposite Nerillian, pop Holy Strength and then shift Galadriel into this (Pic related). Then using haste unload a shot into each of them attempting to break the barriers,
>>
>>40506705
Alright, so you're ordering everyone to use ranged attacks if they have them to try and break through the force shields.

Quick tie breaker, I'll wait three minutes before calling it.

1. Target Leonard
2. Target Daniel

1. Activate Righteous Strength
2. Don't activate Righteous Strength

Lets see if we can end this. Daniel is getting winded on his own.

Galadriel will essentially help you pull your punches, yes. If you smack him in the face with a hammer using Righteous Fury it's still going to hurt like hell and need healing later, but it won't crush his skull in or anything, no.

"Reinhardt, go help Roland. Everyone, if you have ranged attacks, start using them." You shout out.

Reinhardt nods and goes to help Roland with Daniel. Meanwhile, a golden glow begins to flow from Galadriel down to your arm and over the rest of your body as you activate Righteous Strength. Leonard notices this, and begins backing up a little faster toward Galmar and Daniel. Quickly, you cast Blink and teleport behind him to cut him off, shifting to a spear as you do, and jab at the force shield surrounding him. Large cracks form in the shield, until it completely shatters. Quickly, you follow up with a thrust at Leonard, thinking to end the fight in one blow.

Unfortunately, Leonard was cunning enough to position himself between you and your allies, and ducks below your spear, which instead hits Erika. She's sent flying backwards, and you're left wondering if she'll punched for that later on.

Following up, leonard dodges a jab from Justine and sweeps her feet out from under her. You try to jab him while he's distracted, but he sidesteps and swings the side of his spear into your gut.

>30/40 HP remaining
>>
>>40507689
Roland picks up his spear again and starts jabbing at Daniel, poking holes into the shield. Reinhardt comes from the side and swings his halberd at Daniel as well, causing the shield to shatter, but not before Daniel finishes casting his spell. You see a warm light start to form around Galmar's knees, and he stands back up again. However, Nerillian shoots and arrow at Daniel just as he finishes his spell, striking Daniel in the side of the head. He clutches at the spot where he was hit, and Roland takes this chance to sweep his legs out from under him and jab him in the chest. Daniel wheezes and stays down, and you hear Roland apologize to Daniel.

Galmar, now able to stand again, continues to clash with Ganelon, who seems to be an equal match for him. At this time, Joan throws another lightning bolt at him. For his part, Galmar only flinches at the lightning bolt, but that flinch leaves an opening in his defense, which is all Ganelon needs to smash him in the face with his mace. Though still standing, you doubt he can keep fighting like this for long.

Erika is still picking herself up. It looks like that stray hit really messed her up, but she's still getting up.

>Plan of attack?
>>
>>40507710
At this point just lay the pressure on Leo. One or two good hits should end this.

Leg sweep, hard jab to the right, Blink to the now unprotected left side, hard slash, and overhead swing.

Probably should switch to Halberd for this for versatility.

This fight has gone on long enough. It's down to Galmar and Leonard now, you just need to beat Leonard and the training exercise is done. With that in mind, you shift Galadriel into a halberd and try to sweep Leonard's feet out from under him.

However, Leonard sees it coming and jumps over your halberd, then gives you a hard jab to the chest.

>25/40 HP remaining

While he's busy with you however, Justine manages to get a good swing at him, whacking him in the back of the head with the side of her spear. While he's gripping his head, you jab hard at his right side, your increased strength pushing him back a few feet, though he remains standing.

Following up, you cast Blink and teleport to his left side, ducking just in time to avoid another swing from him. You then try to hit him with a hard slash, but he manages to jump back just in time to avoid it. You're not done yet though, and charge after him with an overhead swing, which connects with his shoulder and knocks him face first into the ground. With that, you believe the fight is over.

"is everyone alright?" You shout out, looking to see what's happening to the others.

Reinhardt is currently on the ground behind Galmar. You were so busy with Leonard you actually didn't even notice he was knocked out. Roland and Ganelon were teaming up against Galmar, but stop as soon as you call out. Justine is just behind you, out of breath but fine otherwise. Nerillian is far back, and replaces an arrow in his quiver before approaching the others. Erika, however, has dirt smeared across her armor and looks like she got run over by a horse, and looks a little pissed off.

"Oh I'm just fine, thanks for asking." She says dryly.

"Uh, sorry about that, I didn't expect Leonard to duck. Speaking of which, are you alright sir?"

"I'm fine." He says, picking himself back up with a groan. "You did better than expected, perhaps I should have given you more all more credit."

"Thank you sir.

"Don't assume every day will be this easy though. Today was an easy day, but since you all did so well we'll start the hard training tomorrow."

...This was easy? Reinhardt is knocked out, Erika got sent flying, and you yourself feel very sore and this was easy?

How's Daniel, is he okay?" Leonard asks, walking past you while you wonder what exactly a hard training day will be like.

"I'm fine Leonard, just...a little out of breath. I'm not as young as I used to be."

"Good. If you feel you can handle it, see if you can heal everyone and wake Logain and the new recruit up."

"I'll assist you." Ganelon offers.

-------
With everyone now awake and fully healed, Leonard has you all line up again.

"You all did a good job today. Siegfried, you did an excellent job leading your honor guard today, and the rest of you did excellent in today's sparring match."

Reinhardt scoffs. "Didn't I just get my ass kicked by the big guy?"

"Don't be too hard on yourself, you're certainly not the only one. Galmar is a captain for a very good reason.

"Indeed. I hope we'll be sparring again some time Galmar." Ganelon says.

"I look forward to it." Galmar agrees, shaking Ganelon's hand.

"That will be all for today, you're dismissed." Leonard says. "Meet us at the training yard again tomorrow at the same time. For now, head back to the tower and rest up, you still have an hour until lunch starts."

"Thank Aureus." Erika sighs. "Gives me time to clean up before dinner, since -someone- decided to knock me into the ground."

"Someone just wake me up before lunch." Reinhardt complains. "I'm tired, so I'd like to take a nap that doesn't come from getting hit in the head by some giant's mace in the meantime."

Well, you have an hour until lunch starts, what will you do in that time?

Choose two of the following:

Maybe we can put this on our sword hand glove since the other has an enchantment on it already.

The aether drain from the enchantment on your shield is negligible, you'll pretty much be getting the full effect.

You spend some time studying the entries on holy and strength enchantments. The holy enchantment definitely sounds like it would be useful, and you couldn't go wrong with using a strength enchantment on some of your gear.

>New enchantment learned! Holy Enchantment
>New Enchantment learned! Strength Enchantment

You just finish memorizing the strength enchantment when you hear a knock on your door. Setting the book down, you open the door and find Erika, now dirt-free, and Reinhardt standing outside.

"Lunch is starting soon, we're heading down there now."

"Alright, just give me a second to put my books away."

--------
You arrive at the dining hall a little early, thus avoiding the large line that usually forms outside of the dining hall.

"Ah, there you are." Daniel greets you as you sit down.

"Hey guys, everyone rested up?"

"As much as could, yeah." Reinhardt says. "I'm still sore from when that big guy smacked me in the head. What was his name, Galmar or something?"

"It was Galmar, yes." Ganelon says.

"I have to agree, Captain Galmar is as strong as he looks." Roland agrees. "Actually, speaking of training, Daniel, how did you disarm me like that?"

"Oh, that? Just a little trick I learned when I was young. I wasn't always an old priest you know. In any case, after lunch we have arcane training, I was informed after we got back that I am to be your instructor for that, we'll head to the practice room once we've finished eating."

"Anything really different from regular arcane training? Also, hope you got some good rest Reinhardt, because this'll be just as tiring as the last training."

"How the Void is say words and magic shit happens tiring?"

"You'll learn, just wait. Daniel?"

"Well, it'll be similar in many ways, but now we'll be going over some of the more advanced spells. We'll probably be going into arcane theory as well, you might want to take notes once we get there, I'll having writing utensils ready for you."

"Arcane theory? Didn't you read something about that Joan?"

Joan nods, and Berry speak for her. "It's the basic theories behind arcane lore. Interesting stuff."

"Is it? Well that's good."

The rest of lunch is spent making small talk. You discuss combat training, share ideas for how each other can improve for the next training session, and at one point a question pops into your mind.

"Hey Daniel, you said you weren't always a priest, what did you do before then?"

"Well, I actually was a professional duelist for a time."

Roland looks surprised. "Duelist? You?"

"As I said Roland, I wasn't always an old man you know."

"No, I didn't mean it like that, it's just surprising. That explains that crazy disarm earlier though."

"Yes, I still remember a few tricks like that. I actually participated in a few tourneys when I was younger, even traveled to Galloway once."

"Really now? Where was that?"

"It was the annual tournament in Tarrin, actually."

"The capital? And you say you won? You must have been really good back then, er, not to say your not now, I just-"

Daniel laughs. "Don't worry about it Roland, I know what you mean. That was a very long time ago, and I became a priest when I was 25. I enlisted here at the watchtower when I was 26, and now here I am today."
>>
>>40510411
Roland and Daniel continue to talk about the various tournaments Daniel participated in during his youth. You never really paid attention to any tournaments outside the ones Morsland would host on occasion, but it sounds like he participated in quite a few major tourneys. You'd have never guessed looking at him now.

Before long, everyone's finished lunch and you all start heading to the training room. Right as you arrive at the reinforced door to the training room however, Erika stops.

"Damn, I just remembered there was something I needed to grab before I came here. You guys go ahead, I'll be back soon."

You shrug and let her go, following Daniel into the training room. You can still see scorch marks along the stone walls which you hope were left by a successful spell and not an accidental mishap.

"Alright, now let's jump right in shall we? A month is a short time to teach all the advanced spells I know of, so let's get started now shall we? Reinhardt, you sit over there and wait for a moment, I'll be with you shortly. You'll need to learn the basics first before you start casting the more advanced spells. Now, the first thing you need to know before we proceed is the basics of arcane theory. Arcane theory covers the many numerical equations required for more powerful spells, and thus we'll need to start with..."

You listen to Daniel drone on about arcane theory and quickly learn that Joan's definition of interesting and your definition are very different. Joan seems to be enjoying herself, but you are bored to tears listening to Daniel talk about all these equations and incantations and blah. You memorize two of the spells he teaches you at least, but you'll have to either get him to reexplain everything again or read a book to learn the other spells.

Once Daniel's finished his lecture, he gives you time to practice the new spells he's taught you while he instructs Reinhardt on the basics. You practice for a while, until eventually it occurs to you that Erika is still not here after half an hour.

"Erika's still not back yet." You mention aloud to the others.

"Ah, right. She's probably having trouble finding her foci is all, she hardly uses it so I wouldn't be surprised if she lost it."

You shrug, that makes sense. Still, half an hour is a bit much.

"Erika, you in there?"

No response.

"Erika?"

Still nothing. You check the doorknob, it's unlocked. You open the door a crack and look inside. No one's here, everything's in order, doesn't look like she was here looking for something. You stop and think, where was that place Erika took you that one time, the place where she used to skip magic lessons? It was on the top floor, you remember that, and there were lots of dusty chairs and other things being stored away. The storeroom! That's what it was, right. You climb up the stairs once more, to the top of the watchtower and up to the storeroom.

You knock on the door. "Erika, are you in here?"

Just like back at her room, there's no response. The door's unlocked though, so you step inside. One of the windows is open, letting a nice breeze in. There are chairs, desks, and a lot of other miscellaneous things lying around, and just under one of the large stacks of chairs, you see a pair of armored feet.

"You didn't play hide-and-seek very often when you were a kid, did you? I can see your feet Erika, at least find a better hiding spot if you're going to hide.

Sure enough, you hear Erika groan and step out from behind the stack of chairs. There's a book in her hand with a bookmark inside, looks like she was sitting here reading while everyone else was in the training room.

"Shit, knew I should have picked a different room to hide in." She says.

"Probably. Now come on, you can't just skip training like that."

"Oh why not? I've gone this far without magic, and besides, I'm horrible at spellcasting."

"Erika, Laurentius himself said we were supposed to practice."

"Laurentius knows about me and magic, he won't care. Come on, just let it slide this once, please? Better yet, we can both skip. I know Daniel, he's probably boring you all to tears in there. Daniel won't know, and you've already been there for what, an hour? Just tell him you were busy looking for me or something."

Well she does have a point, arcane theory isn't exactly the most interesting topic in the world. Still, this is training meant to make you ready for the crusade, you should be there. Then again, if it's only one day...

It's tempting, but you really shouldn't skip Daniel's lessons and neither should she.

"Come on, the theory may be boring but did you see me blinking around that fight this morning? That, at least, has got to interest you."

"Not really. It's a cool trick and all, but I'm just fine without it."

"Erika, this is stuff we need to know, we can't just skip it. Actually, you know what, I'll cut you a deal. If you come back down to training with me, I'll show you something really cool."

She raises an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

"I'll bet you I can get down to the bottom floor of the tower in five minutes or less."

Erika laughs. "Do you know how many floors this tower has? Unless you're using some kinda teleportation magic, there's no way."

"There is, and I'll prove it if you come back to training with me."

"You know what, sure, if you can actually pull it off without some teleportation spell, I'll go back to training."

'Siegfried, are thinking what I think you're thinking?" Galadriel asks in your mind.

'Probably. Think of it like this: It's practicing with the new wings.'

'I think "misuse" would be a more accurate term, but I'll let it slide this once.'

'Really? I didn't think it'd be that easy to convince you.'

'I also think it would be funny to see her reaction. That's the only reason.'

"So, how are we getting down?" Erika asks, snapping your attention back to reality.

"You'll see. Here, jump on my back."

"Huh?"

"Just do it, trust me."

Erika shrugs and jumps on your back like you asked. She surprising light considering she's wearing plate mail. You remember when you were choosing your armor, when Leonard said the armor had been enchanted to feel lighter so it'd be easier to wear.

"Alright, now hold on tight and don't let go."

"Siegfried, what are you trying to do-Wait, that's a window, Siegfried, what are you do-"
>>
>>40511555
Before she can even finish her sentence, you've lept out the open window and start plummeting towards the ground. You're calm because you know what's about to happen, but Erika is...less so.

"Fuckwhatareyoudoingdumbasswe'regonnadieSHIIIIIIIT!"

You listen to her reaction and chuckle. 'Alright Galadriel, I think that's enough.'

'Indeed.' She responds, sounding just as amused as you are. Suddenly, Galadriel begins to glow in it's sheath. The light then begins to travel up to your back and suddenly six wings of golden light form and spread out, slowing your fall.

"You can calm down now Erika, look."

Erika, who you notice was closing her eyes, opens them and sees the six wings. The look of confusion on her face is absolutely priceless.

"Holy shit, how are you-?"

"Still think I didn't kill that Behemoth?" You ask, flashing what's perhaps the biggest shit-eating grin you've ever had in your entire life.

"Sweet Aureus Siegfried, you can actually fly?"

"I told you I could, you wouldn't believe me."

"Void, you scared the shit out of me. This is awesome!"

"I know, right?"

You continue to glide around a bit longer, enjoying the flight, before flapping down to the bridge, where a group of flabbergasted guards watch you descend. Once you're safely on the ground, you let Erika go and dismiss your wings.

"Like I said, five minutes or less. Now you have to go back to training."

"Oh, right, training. Damn, I almost forgot about that. I'll go, but seriously man, I thought I was gonna die there for a second."

"Eh, I figure this makes us even for that time you made me stick my head in the toilet my first day here."

She gives you a friendly punch in the arm. "Whatever. Asshole."
>>
>>40511555
>'I also think it would be funny to see her reaction. That's the only reason.'
Siegfried is rubbing off on you Galadriel.

"Oh. Erika. You're back."

The two of you enter the training room where the others are still practicing. You see Reinhardt is surrounded by a bunch of floating orbs and looks dead tired, just like you were the first time you used magic.

"Yeah, I found her. She was just having trouble finding her foci like you said." You lie.

"I see. Well, Erika, I think we should go over the basics with you again before we try anything advanced, just take a seat and listen to me."

Is it just you, or does Daniel sound really unenthusiastic about Erika being here? Normally he's happy to see her, but now it almost sounds like he was hoping you wouldn't find her.

"Alright, we'll start with a simple Illumination spell again. Now just listen to me closely and repeat the incantation. Ready?"

"I know this much Daniel, you don't need to treat me like a recruit."

"Right, sorry. Now, here's the incantation, take your time, and pleeeaase focus."

Okay, now something definitely seems wrong. Not just because of the way Daniel said that last sentence, but the fact he, Justine, and Joan are backing far away as well. Surely she can't be that ba-

Your thoughts are interrupted by what sounds like a small explosion. Smoke begins to fill the room, causing everyone to cough and hack. It's so dark you can't see anything save for the balls of light Reinhardt made.

"Air, we need air!" Daniel shouts between coughs. You hear him hack out the incantation for another Illumination spell and see him search desperately for the door. When he finds it, he throws the door open and starts fanning the smoke out of the room, into the hallway.

Looking around, everyone is covered in black soot from head to toe. Even Galadriel is stained black from soot.

'I think I'm seeing why she skipped lessons...' Galadriel comments.

"Okay." Daniel says between coughs. "Don't be discouraged Erika, let's try this one more time..."
>>
>>40511578
----------
Time has passed, and dinner has just ended. After arcane training, everyone left early to go clean the soot off them before meeting up for dinner in the dining hall. Conversation mostly involved teasing Erika for earlier. In the end, she did manage to cast Illumination at least. It was a dim, shriveled up ball of light which extinguished itself after a few seconds, but hey, it's progress.

With dinner finished, you now have the rest of tonight to do as you please. You've already told the others that the Knight-Captain wants them to spend their time productively, now you need to decide how you want to spend yours.

You head decide to head back to your room and meditate. You doubt Laurentius would object to that. Taking a seat on your bed, you close your eyes with Galadriel across your lap and meditate.

You feel the familiar gust of wind and open your eyes to the cloudy landscape. The moon is shining overhead, just as it is in real life, and you see Galadriel standing atop her mountain peak like usual.

"You have returned. What brings you here today, Siegfried?"

Oh, also

"Thanks for the wings. Damn this is awesome. Do you think regular mortals will ever find a way to fly?
>>
>>40511758
All of this.
>>
>>40511719
"Just thought I'd stop by and chat is all." You answer. "So, was Erika's reaction everything you hoped it would be?"

"I'll admit, I feel a little guilty for that, but it was amusing nonetheless. Watching mortals react to flight is always entertaining."

"Never took angels for jokers, I'm actually surprised you were okay with what I did."

"So long as no one gets hurt, even my kind have sense of humor. Watching Erika try to cast spells was also an entertaining experience."

"I don't think Daniel would call it that, but yeah. Any idea on why she's so bad at magic?"

"It's not her fault, some mortals are more attuned to the Aether than others, like that thief Sirus, and find spellcraft easy. Others are less attuned to it than normal, like Erika, and find spellcraft almost impossible. With practice she might improve, but it would be an uphill battle, I wouldn't hold my breath."

"Hope she can figure it out before the Crusade starts. Speaking of which, how do Crusades usually start? I guess it'll take time for us to train up and make a tour of the towers, but what happens then?"

"Once all the towers have pledged their support, the Knight-Captains will start coming up with a plan of attack. Usually, they will focus their resources on invading one particular domain, then move to the next if they are successful. In the meantime, I imagine they will be watching the borders carefully for any demonic invasion forces, though I doubt there will be any. They are content to sit in their fortresses and wait for you to come to them, the invasion of Morsland was an exception."

"Have any invasions been successful before?"

"They have not."

You sigh, and lay back on the cloud beneath you, looking into the night sky. "Figured as much. You think the other angels watching our struggles down here?"

"I'm almost certain. Chances are they've already taken an interest in you."
>>
>>40512013
"Why don't they ever come down and help then?"

"I believe many would like to, but our king Rathanael forbids intervention. He has been fearful of Malaphas since the Great Crusade, when the old king Aurelius died. He means to protect our kind, but in doing so he's decided to do nothing while yours struggles."

"Sounds like a real likeable guy."

"Indeed. His intentions are good, but intentions are not good enough."

The two of you continue to chat for another hour or so, before you feel yourself start getting tired. With another day of training ahead of you tomorrow, you say goodnight to Galadriel and end the meditation session, quickly falling asleep.

----------
The new Champion comes rides to the tower with two other individuals, a elven man and a human woman. They discuss the future as they ride towards the watchtower.

"So what happens once we get to the White Watchtower?"

"I imagine first the Knight-Captain will want to speak with you. Training will probably start the next day."

"What sort of training?"

"Just basic stuff at first. Some sparring, basic magic lessons, that sort of thing. Once you've mastered that and the captain's chosen an honor guard for you, the real training starts."

"Who exactly will be in that honor guard?"

"No idea. I imagine the captain will assign the tower's best fighters to you though. As Champion, you need competent bodyguards to keep you safe."

"Why would I need bodyguards? I can protect myself."

"Perhaps, but it's just a precaution. Many have died before you after all, better safe than sorry. We should coming up to the tower soon, any other questions before we get there?"

"How about your names?"

The elf slaps his hand into his face. "Right, we never introduced ourselves did we? My name is Laurentius, and this is my friend Alicia."

The human, Alicia, nods her head. "Pleasure to meet you Andras, I look forward to fighting with you in the future."
>>
>>40512021
--------
You wake up in the morning to a bad headache. That dream, it was another one about Andras. Not only that, but Laurentius was in there as well. You don't know who that Alicia was though, maybe Laurentius would know? Then again, if that was from when Andras was Champion, she's probably dead by now, would it be appropriate to ask?

You sigh, and start getting dressed. That's the second dream you've had about Andras, seems even in your sleep he won't leave you alone. Still, it's better than the nightmares you used to have of other Champions dying. Maybe you'll ask Laurentius or Galadriel about your dream later, who knows. Right now though, you need to hurry and get down to the dining hall, breakfast starts soon and training starts immediately after.

Next thread we should offer some enchanted stuff to our group.

Also get Nirellion to give us some of his arrowheads to practice enchanting.

Reinhardt could use a halberd with that strength enchant.

Justine could use the warding enchantment on her spear.

Erika could use either fire or sacred enchant on her great-sword.

Roland could use the sacred enchant on a gauntlet or glove so he can check for demons and engage in fisticuffs with them while protecting him from horny succubi.

>>40512038
Hey i was wondering if you could add a ranged control/telekinesis enchantment for flying swords and stuff.
Maybe in the intermediate enchanting book.
>>
>>40512406
>while protecting him from horny succubi
Wouldn't an enchanted codpiece work better then? Actually, he probably wouldn't wear it. Hell, he wouldn't understand why you gave it to him.
>>
>>40512168
Thanks for the thread OP!
>>
>>40512406
Im wondering if Reinhardt should have a full set of weightless, so Galadriel can fly him around if Sieg is captured again.

Since Erika is absolute balls at magic, she may need to spec into spell interruption. Elemental one-use throwing knives that cause distracting effects?
>>
>>40513669
We should probably master the weightless enchantment before we start planing escapes like that.
