Anons I have sinned against the emperor, and fallen asleep on another thread. Not only that but I have failed to fill the gaping hole in your hearts by not providing proper worldbuilding for Kilionos. As such, in repentance I dedicate this thread to the Emprah, to the Imperium, and to worldbuilding!

Alright, here's how it works. Im gonna give you all ten long post. One or two of those post shall be dedicated to a certain feature of the planet based on what gets the most choices and what you all agree on, so lets start:

(WorldBuilding Kilionos)

>>
>>40501343

These two are most important.
>>
>>40501343
^Supporting this.

Hey, hey Dad! We made like techpriests, but less anal!
>>
Alright ima try to be quicker to day so...whats Kilionos Government first of all.
>>
>>40501602

Meritocratic militaristic Autocracy.

Basically we appoint the most efficient people to their respective heads of government, but they handle the day to day shit.

Also everyone has to serve a minimum of two years in the army to gain civilian privileges
>>
>>40501261
>Military
>Kilionos culture
I imagine these two would overlap somewhat with a martial culture. The sort that develops on a world locked into war with orks.
>Kilionos People
Probably affects legion in the future what with primarch home worlds tending to provide population stock for future astartes
>>
>>40501658
Sounds like a primarch devoted to will would do. Also given our nature I see industry (and by extension tech), as well as military and other civil fields, having a big representation in government.
>>
>>40501713
sort of like vostroya, but without the space czack feel.
>>
Alright, since Government and culture go hand in hand, tell me what Kilionos' culture is.
>>
>>40501981
Individualistic with a heavy emphasis on working the best of ones capabilities as well as having a heavy military culture of discipline and a survivors spirit.
>>
>>40502023

This but add a heavy dose of slavery-inspired messianic myth.
>>
>>40501981
High premium on individual freedoms as brought about by generations living either in fear or in slavery of Orks.
>>
>>40501602
i figure it would be more central control due to our crushing of the nobles, emphasis on being delivered from slavery, chosen people etc. very reserved conservative people due to need to use all resources available to survive, we being the catalyst for growth and a useful channeling of said resources.
>>
>>40501981
continuing with my pervious post.>>40502023
primarily Patriarchal with several minor shamanistic religions and the major cult being to the primarch mc. Men are expected to take on the most dangerous and neccisary work while the females handle the paperwork and take care of the children. There is also a ranking system of using strips of metal and tattoos to show ones accomplishments and social rank. the more metal and tattoos the higher a individual is on the social ladder. Money is seen as a tool to be used and greed is frowned upon. polygamy is common. there are yearly festivals to let off steam and teach useful skills to the younger generation.
>>
>>40502174
Even as we have female bodyguards? Ehhh, not really keen on the strict, patriarchal interpretation. I'd say something more to >>40501658's interpretation with an emphasis with some personal freedoms and ruggedness, a knowledge-centric society prioritizing science, inquiry, and inquiry into the natural world.
>>
>>40501658
>>40501713
>>40502023
These match what I would like to see.
>>
>>40502345
we have female bodyguards? Since this is the culture of the world and the MC grew up outside of it he would not follow the patriarchal mindset or whatever, honestly I just hope some of my contributions make it in, even if its cherry picked.
>>
A very goal orientated people about 6 festivals a year to let off steam and a large one when a long term goal is achieved
>>
>>40502369
Seconding.
>>
>>40502422
This sounds like a neat cultural feature. Would Sol have any special function/symbolic significance in any of these festivals?
>>
>>40502515
Not that poster but he could function as symbolic figure with several sayings and challenges associated with him for people to do. like riddles and whatnot.
>>
Jesus its been 35 minutes! Alright im writing culture first since that ties into government.
>>
>>40502729
are you taking the options at face value or are you going to take the best parts of them and put them together?
>>
>>40502422

Maybe a kind of mythologies "slave rebellion" over the course of the year?

1st holiday: Halloween styled situation where everyone dressed up like slaves and other people dress like xenos. Kind of fun and pretend spooky!

2nd holiday: big festival where "xenos" are beaten and there are big fires and slaves ritually break their chains.

3Rd holiday: Rebuilding. A lot of craftsmanship and capitalism. Black Friday sales rolled into christmas. A lot of hymns celebrating how far we've come.

4th holiday: Training and skills. A lot of team sports and competition: military drills and parades! Big sports competitions and fighting matches. Gambling, and racing!

5th Holiday: solemn reflection on the future of the people: people make and set goals in their lives to achieve. They also make right insults or slights that they have caused over the year by doing good deeds and making forgiveness.

6th holiday: Sol's Day. The celebration for the Savior. It is a solemn and quiet day, of respectful honoring of the Dark Sun. We like to wander the streets and meet the common man these days - give advice to those who need it. It is a time for study and knowledge. Professors and experts hold councils to discuss science and progress.
>>
>>40502750
Mix of face value and best parts. Gonna kinda fuse them first, ask if you all agree, then write.
>>
>>40502831
cool.
>>
>>40502809
I like this.
>>
>>40502809
Now this sounds cool.
>>
>Military
infantry based with unique weapons and prototypes given field tests. tunnel fighters and guerrilla troops as elites.

>Cities
a few hive cities with more smaller ones scattered around

>Population
fairly stable population with minor valences of rising or falling.

>Life other than Humans on Kilionos
mutants
preditory scavangers
possible subhuman (non mutant) living in the tunnels

>Kilionos People
not too sure how to do this one so I guess stick with what we know?
>>
>Kilionos Culture
Due to being enslaved, under constant threat from attack, and living on a world that encouraged survival of the fittest, the people of Kilionos are highly individualistic. To them freedom is the highest priority, and most Kilions would die before letting themselves be enslaved. Expression of ones thoughts and beliefs, as long as they dont endanger others, are encouraged.

The people of Kilionos place an emphasis on militaristic ideas and skills. Its common for them to train with guns and swords, with the gangers sometimes fighting each other less out of malice and more out of a testing of skills. Fights are often settled through a test of martial skill, with no discrimination in age or gender(as long as its within reasonable limits)that are generally non-lethal.

The people have a high focus on survival, which coupled with their natural militaristic and individualistic ways produces a culture that places emphasis on both the individual and the whole. A great swordsman is valued, but a great swordsman who can work with a team is even better.

So far so good anons? If so ill add in the spiritual and festive parts next

Honestly I'm just waiting for the day when The Emperor finally reaches our part of the galaxy only to find us leading our own mini-crusade and to feel pic related.
>>
You know what, for the sake of not being an ass, here are the typical celebrations of Kilionos thanks to a great anon >>40502809

Alright so what are the more spiritual and messianic parts of Kilionos culture? Any sayings? If so I have a few:

"Be as swift as darkness, yet shine like the sun."

"Only a fool uses his skills only for himself. A wise man is both a distant star and a close comforting sun."

Anything else anons? Also, add anything else to culture now or forever hold your peace.

>>40503790
Let it be done!
>>
>>40503809

Maybe also throw in some distant myths about Xenos punishing the pride of men who dared to become God's and all that.

Maybe some suspicion about technology not directly related to war or weaponry?
>>
>>40503876
I can't really see a reason for them to be dismissive or suspicious about certain technologies.
>>
>>40502809
Love it!
>>
>>40503876
I think Sol has been pushing tech and advancement too hard for them to suspicious of tech by this point.

The hubris myth might be good to tie in with how the planet was shattered.
>>
>>40503965

Well, 15 years ago they were slaves with no education. If it doesn't fly, shoot, or cut up Xenos, why have it at all? Imagine what a Spartan citizen would think of an iPod, they'd be baffled because they would think it was useless
>>
>>40503876
if anything the populous would be more dismissive of the idea of someone trying to restrict the understanding of tech.
>>
>>40504064

Pretty good point, actually. Maybe they really hate any attempt at censorship or to prevent the spread of information?

Should set up some nice conflicts when we meet the fascist Imperium at large

The spartan would worship the iPod as some sort of instrument of the gods. Despite how they are represented in media there is no evidence that spartans were any different from their contemporary humans. There has not been any nation, race or ideology that has completely removed the need for recreation from the human condition.

We're a primarch. They're not going to yell at the son of the omnissiah, we just need to focus on making sure our tech is rugged and powerful. Besides, we're going to be really tech-oriented, I think it's plain to see.
Are we basically starship troopers? Because it's sounding like we're starship troopers.
>>
Ok, this might just be what I'm planning, but I wanted to hear your guys' opinion on it.
So, when we meet the astartes, and we're given our own legion, we're going to be like "Alright, these guys are cool, but I'm not just going to ditch my army for 'em". I'm proposing that we make man-portable anti-astartes weapons and tactics. Our legion is still a group of badass space marines, but we shouldn't abandon the little guy just because we got some big dudes. I don't care what anyone says, pic related can kill a squad of space marines unprepared.

Tl;dr If space marines rely on regular guardsmen to provide anti-air, there's no reason why our space marines shouldn't fight alongside our infantry.
>>
>>40504668
Hell yeah, combined arms all the way.
>>
So lets see. Xenos punishing men because of gods orders. Sound good anons? Also do you want to move onto government now?

>>40504668
Every legion had an imperial army attachement, but instead of simply being auxillary troops our armies actively participate? Sounds good to me.

Alright, move on to government or something else anons?
>Government
>Write in
>>
>>40504668
it largely depends on how many Space Marines we can get. I'd personally go for our Space Marines being trained as leaders that organize and lead a thousand man troop each. With this we could lead an army with a size somewhere in the 100 million regular soldiers and 100 thousand SM. Ultramarine legion had 250 thousand SM
>>
>>40504793
By the start of the Horus heresy and before istvaan every legion had 100k+ marines, so we can reach that number quickly based on a variety of factors.
>>
>>40504766
No, I'm saying we focus on our actual military, and our astartes aren't getting special treatment. In fact, we'll recruit the sons of our best soldiers and turn them into astartes. Four million specially trained soldiers with the right equipment could probably win against a legion company. To quote someone I forget, "An astartes who does not fear a lasgun has never charged into a field of them." We should totally give our astartes heavy lasguns. The whole "no ammunition" is useful against numerical foes.
Anyways,
>government
>military

>>
So do you wish me to write from what weve got for government or add onto it anons? If there are no post in ten minutes ill just start writing with what weve got.
>>
>>40505054

I guess three tiers of criminal punishment.

1. Misdemeanors are punished through community service.

2. Felonies are punished by dangerous work in mines or what have you. The punishment for killing a productive member of society is much worse than if you kill a hobo, but you will go to the mines either way.

The idea being that you will serve society no matter what. Truly irredeemable people are executed by local government once their guilt is ascertained.
>>
>>40505054
I guess since our people are very free-spirited, and they need to do military (or otherwise) service to be able to vote on council matters, I say we give them a electorates that they can vote on or run for themselves. It's still a republic, but local areas can get a much heavier say on their areas than other people. I don't know, I think that's it for government. Does anyone have ideas for military?
>>
>>40505197

>hero, I meant to split felonies into violent and non-violent

Non-violent criminals run the dangerous industry work away from population centers and can earn their freedom if they behave well.

Violent criminals are put into death squads and sent against Xenos until they are killed in action. Many criminals view this as vastly preferable to working in the mines for twenty or thirty years.
>>
>>40505197
I'd actually prefer a more efficient method where prisons were turned into labour camps that would be subcontracted by nearby factories for menial and dangerous work.
>>
>>40505080
That shit will be expensive as hell to manufacture. There's no reason to not just use rockets or grenades if something won't die to regular lasgun fire.
>>
Why not have the Mc appoint a council of uneven numbers with a mix of the most efficient peoplet from different post ions who then vote on governess for regions while local officials are elected with all citizens being equal and citizenship is gained through military service.
>>
>>40505308
>>40505080
We actually havent totally reverse engineered and scaled them down, but we do have a number of stronger weapons like more advanced lasguns and less likely to explode plasma guns.
>>
>>40505308
but grenades and rockets need to be manufactured and are single use. a plasma weapon has the same benefit as a Lasgun. it uses energy that can be from any compatible power source. This would greatly simplify logistics and would aid especially in situations where supply lines are sketchy. Supply in the front lines is ALWAYS sketchy and the gun that doesn't run out of ammo is the gun that you want.
>>40505347
I actually read up on why the plasma weapons of the Tau don't blow up on their faces and the answer was pretty funny. Imperial plasma weapons are just overclocked to hell and back.
>>
>>40505335
I don't see why it matters that they're uneven.
But anyways, I think that's enough for government and politics right now.
>cities

Laspacks are rechargeable. Plasma guns are not. Ones a solar battery, the other uses liquid hydrogen. I guess we could try to make a machine that creates liquid hydrogen, or a very, very sturdy plasma gun, but it's not easy. What're we looking like in terms of vehicles?
>>
>>40505541

>rechargeable plasma packs

Huh. Why aren't there recharge packs? Might be a fun project for Sol Prementus to work on as a side project.
>>
>>40505541
yeah I forgot that the lore around plasma weaponry of 40k was designed by idiots. So we need a hydrogen capturing device. Energy isn't really a problem since any APC is carrying massive amounts of energy so just capturing it in trace amounts from the moisture and other compounds in the air with either a backpack or some device installed into an APC.
>>
>>40505586
Hypothetically, a hot enough laser is plasma anyhow. In which case they'd be meltaguns. But like I said, they use pure hydrogen, presumably because it's the most practical thing to do.
>>
Alright im writing for government. Sorry this thread is slow and lacking in a Primarch getting shit done. >lacks pupils
Holyshitwhat
Hmmmm. Well, so far they pretty much seem like The Federation, so I suppose we need to add more on. They've been fighting mutants and orks for quite a few thousand years. I think they'd be pretty spiritual about technology, considering how dangerous it is sometimes, and most of them never learned how it works, but they'd also probably revere it sometimes because of how useful it is.
After writing that, I now realize this is one of the better-preserved mechanicus worlds.

On another note,I think this is a good aircraft vehicle.
>>
The general population could have a defect turning their hair violet or teal or blue, these people are seen as destined for greatness by the more supersticious folk

Another thing could be a big heirloom culture or family work. Like a family may work on a device for generations, a lasting legacy which when complete can help the greater whole

Finally we have a hall of champions, heroes of our people cremated by us personally in thanks for some epic deed, their ashes buried at the feet of a statue of them, probes located in the remains of the first slave pit where rebellion began

This is a good idea. Besides the hair dyed animu people. It could be anything, but I believe that the other half of the world being blown up is a result of a war between two superpowers that decided they had enough of each others shit, and the more advanced side had more missile defence systems. But the war didn't end then, either, as everybody had to go deeper down into the city to avoid the radiation, and found sympathizers. The death throes of the dying nation still influence the world today. Also they had a bunch of titans, and their forever-ruined husks are used as cities. Because why not.

>>40507100
I was hoping for Lorgar. Imperial Heralds a best.

What about the Emperor, what would he think of our tech level?

And who would hate us the most out of all the Primarchs?
>>
Alright, you faggots stop lurking and start posting. What should our military focus on? We can go at it a few ways:
Mechanized warfare: Holy fuck just look at all those tanks and black helicopters. Heavy weapons all day every day. Not very mobile, because you need lots of fuel being transported everywhere, but nobody is going to be able to touch your shit. Unless they start producing a shitton of anti-tank weapons, which is very likely. But then again, a tank will kill anybody holding a weapon very easily.

Infantry warfare:Goddamn, Churchill does not have shit on us. You want that tank dead? We got a squad for that. You want that ork factory taken out? No problem, just send in ten mortar squads. We got scouts all over the place, brother. You need to know where you should strike before you do, and you always know.

Alright, so here's how I plan the military running: Anyone can volunteer. That's how you earn citizenship. You can take any training you like. The better you do at your training(and sometimes in the field), and the more courses you take, the more valuable you are, IE you're going to have more money spent on you, you get better gear. Of course, we don't give shitty guns to even a recruit, but the absolute best get the absolute best, power armor and all, and the well-performers get really good shit. This only applies to weapons, not things like binoculars. Of course, this won't apply to vehicle corps, but they're too valuable to let get pounded into scrap.
>>40507100 But isn't he traitor now?
>>40507131The Emperor lived through the DAOT, it's not shit compared to what he's seen. I guess he's impressed we did it all on our own, though. The arch-traitor, whoever that turns out to be, will hate us the most.
>>
>>40507131
>Who would hate us most
Hmmm, would say either dorn cause hes a "I can never tell a lie" asshole or Uh...lion or russ because we dont seem like foolhardy idiots or something.

>>40507220
Agree with all that, but I think Sol prefers an even mix of both. Personally I feel that infantry is best, as they are more mobile and with our capabilities and tech they are far more varied and versatile. Thoughts?
>>
>>40507220
Shock and awe policy maybe? Artillery strikes followed by a general advance of infantry?

Shit who needs tanks when you have guns that can take down a warlord titan.

But how do we handle recruitment and replenishment of our personal guards?

Do we go the way of angron or do we look for talented individuals?
>>
>>40507339
Infantry with Arty like I mentioned.

We could go the route of WWI and reduce things to rubble before we strike.

Can do the same with orbital bombardments before a drop pod assault of overwhelming numbers from the flagship.
>>
>>40507344
I suppose we just pin "help wanted" signs on every city we meet, and station 100 retired guards there to handle recruitment. Then we come along in a year or two and pick the soldiers up. Alternatively, we ask for some good soldiers of their pdf. Then we make them better soldiers.
>>
>>40507220
I'd personally go for a "I might be out of your range but you're not out of mine" strategy. Heavy focus on ultra long range combat via missiles, artillery and precision airstrikes. Area control would be achieved via air dispersed mines and well fortified stationary bases at critical locations.
>>
>>40507426
>Our personal Guards
>Retiring

Good joke.

Maybe we have some sort of training regime or system like old rome? Must spent x amount of years before reaching a certain status?

I think it should be around 6-10 anyone who can last that long must either be extremely good or lucky.

I'd go for the method mentioned above of everyone of age serving in the military for X years. Most people will after training will return to their civilian lives with the rifle they were trained with for storage. Every X years there would be a call sent to some percentage of the populace for inspection of issued rifle and a short mandatory training. Those who show extreme aptitude in some area are drafted with better than average pay and become the professional backbone of the army. This way every adult on our planet will be trained and equipped with basic infantry skills. I'd like to include in the basic training the theoretical parts of the issued general weapon (I assume it to be the Improved Lasgun) so that the user can do field repairs and scavenge damaged weapons for spare parts.

Well, some of our dudes get citizenship through military service I thought, so we have to send them back eventually. I think 6-8 years is a good timeframe to move up a rank. They've already proven their worth if they can survive that long. Every day on the front lines counts as 3 days, I think that's fair.

Alright guys its late and im tired. Night, hope the thread lives when I wake at 7-8am EST.

Nice to have you anon. Dont forget to look through the archives and catch up. Sorry this thread lacks the normal amount of WIN, HYPE, and prinarch induced destruction. Next thread tomorrow will though. Any questions?

As of yet, no. We have met literally no other primarch, and im still mentally debating how to make the second primarch.
>>
>>40512492
As far as we know? No. We have no idea what he's up to. Or even what he does. We don't know anything about him. Kraven's working on him, I presume.

He wanted people to fight for their beliefs, no matter what they where. It didn't sit well with Emps, because it would empower the Chaos Gods, even if not as much as actively worshiping them.

Alternativly, Primarch is however you like, but raised by xenos. Emps didn't like what he found.

You have no obligation to take this seriously.

Most likely. We're one of the primarchs, that means dad gives us an astartes legion and tells us to go crusade against xeno empires and rebels. And then it'll go to shit in the most spectacular way possible when chaos starts getting antsy.
>>
>>40512553
Did the Primarchs get to name their legions or pick their heraldry? Or did they merely choose the tactics for that legion to employ?

They chose everything. Most legions changed drastically once their primarch came and edited to their liking. We've agreed this is an example of a legionary, just missing a few things.
>>
>>40512571
Like the beakie helmet?
>>
>>40512561
They can change their legion name. Horus' guys were named the luna wolves before he changed the name to the sons of horus. We get to choose the tactics, it's our legion. And no, we don't get to choose their heraldry. The first batch of space marines were made directly from our geneseed.
>>
>>40512561
Primarchs could, and did, rename their legions. Coincidentally, the primarchs that renamed their legion were the ones to turn traitor.
>>
>>40512593
In fact, The Emperor's own thunder warriors were the first to undergo this process using a small sample of each primarch's geneseed. That means the first batch of space marines we get will likely be the best. Huh. The more you know.
>>
>>40512615
Does that mean that if we rename our Legion, we'll end up turning traitor? Also, does this Primarch have any mutations other than super-analysis?

>Reading the archives, see the MacGyvering happening from the start

Oh, this is gonna be fun.
>>
>>40512647
Not necessarily. It was just a coincidence, a fun little fact about the traitor legions.
>>

I feel like Sol would get along with Konrad Curze. For what reasons though anons?

Did you ever make that gun/sword gunblade combo?
>>

>>
So question anons. Should I go on drawthread and request Sol Prementus in a long red robe with black sun decorations standing above a crowd with my trip on, turn trips off, or just not ask at all? Also pic related is Sol Prementus. He has the gun and the sword, debating whether the armor is a relic or not.
>>
>>40512689
Maybe because we both had it rough? Him with Nostramo and becoming the Night Haunter.

Us with rescuing slaves and becoming the Sun, honestly if you think about it we both ended up on similar worlds. Ours was just xenos instead of humans.

>>

Alright anons in gonna write post real quick for Kilionos military. First off what are they called, how do they typically fight, how do they express their individual preferences when in the military(ie colors, preferred gun, armor designs etc).

Well, what's the name of our planet?
>>
>>40512976
...Kilionos...
>>
>>40512964
I'd assume we'd use urban camouflage, since our planet is a massive city. We have a good industrial base, so perhaps our army is a bit on the heavier side, but not too much. Mobility is key after all, but you're likely to catch a facefull of lead in close encounters, which cities are full of. Armor looks a little/really worn most of the time.
What we're called? I want to say that depends on the branch. The navy would be called... voidnauts, the army would just be separated into companies, Kilionian first/second/etc company, the armored battalions would be called so, our land/void troops would be Land And Space Special Ops/LASSO, and our power armored division should be...Armored Mobile Heavy Infantry Corps.
As for how we fight? However is required, but we should never give the enemy respite. If we see an opportunity we strike, if recon says there's a com tower, we destroy it and any equipment and soldiers there. A series of heavy blows are how we fight, the enemy will crack under the pressure eventually.
I don't how how they customize, they're their own men.

>>
>>40513175

I like this. Heavy pressure combined with lightning raids to create weaknesses.

"The rays of the Dark Sun will beat down on you, xeno. And you will break."
>>
>>40513175
That sounds really cool actually. Tactical strikes that wither the enemy until there is nothing left or only one last offensive is needed.
>>
>>40513214

Our troops are encouraged to modify their weaponry to meet their preferences: some soldiers will time down their lad weaponry for more ammunition or the opposite, sacrificing ammo for more powerful shots. Squad leaders are aware of their soldiers mods and will place them intelligently on the battlefield. Soldiers who hotmod their plasma guns will be placed very far from other squad members, nobody wants to stand too close to "Blackened" shadows, kind of a joke about being a shadow of the Dark Sun and also literally being scorched black after a plasma gun explodes.
>>
>>40513214
Yeah, environment-appropriate camo is good. It'll reduce casualties by some percentage.

Except against orks. Solid colors are to be used against them. Since Sol figured out their psychic field and how it affects reality, I'm sure he figured out it's effect on different colors, after all. We just need a machine that'll quickly spray-paint/change the armor colors of our troops before an engagement. Or find some sort of adaptable camouflage STC, given it doesn't take Sol longer to find than to just invent the device.
>>
>>40513214
See, that's the thing I don't like about soft sci-fi. Those guns have no room or places for attachments. There's a huge laser pointer built into the gun, when it could be smaller. It doesn't look practical. /k/ommando sense aside, there's not room anywhere on their armor or guns for customization. It's a single tactical loadout. Customization is easier when a piece of equipment is larger and simpler. Now, these guys on the other hand, have lots of room to work with.
Ultimately, a regular guardsman's gear is the most customizable. But it doesn't necessarily look as cool.
Also that's light infantry.

>all those exposed wires
I want to look away, but I just can't. What do you think would look better? Big, bulky power armor, or thin power armor? Or somewhere in between? If it's too big it stops enhancing the soldier's abilities and starts becoming something to pilot.
>>
>>40513545

We actually don't seem to have power armor at all for our troops, just yet. Just "regular" armor.

So the point is a bit moot, but I also doubt that Sol would like all those wires sticking out. Would be a nightmare in CC
>>
>>40513545
Well I picked the crude one on purpose actually. I mean power armor is not something that you could slap together with scrap metal after all. It's a very complex piece of machinery. A power armor that can be used by regular humans more so.

As to if thin or bulky would look better... Well it really depends on how the armor look to begin with.

Two kinds of bio-engineered spiders:

One that produces silk and milk.

The other being made bigger and fiercer (but loyal), to be used as mounts and help navigate the dangerous tunnels of the planet.

If we ever turn Kilionos into a paradise world, I'll consider motioning to make a smaller breed for companions and something akin to guard dogs. Actually, maybe even before. It could be used by our world's arbites in the future and make a neat present to foreign nobles.

And so it was that when the XI primarch was united with the imperium, he brought many great things to it. He brought over a hundred cleansed worlds, dozens of S.T.C's, relics of the past, a highly skilled and powerful army numbering in the billions...

But his greatest accomplishment was the milk-spider, a gigantic arachnid that produced extreme quantities of milk. The milk-spider quickly spread through the nascent imperium as a vital food source, able to provide food for entire regiments or even worlds in some cases. Their fast and high breeding rate(numbering in the hundreds of newborn milk-spiders)meant that on milk-spiders alone a world could be sustained through their milk, flesh, and high quality silk. Best way I can think of is less MEtal and more like another form of cattle and pets. Bigger, dumber spiders are bred for milk and the like while smaller spiders are bred for companion ship, watch spiders, perhaps utility with their silk. After all, silk bandages could be good and it has good strength as well.

Less 'this is METAL' and more 'this is practical and can assist in increasing production and efficiency.'. Hell, Spiders would be pretty handy for carrying awkward loads in the mines.

Alright so the spiders are gonna be...minor, yet there. They function mainly as either huge cattle or as pets. Most people accesorize their spiders in little(or big)trinkets that symbolize both the spiders individuality and the owners. Spiders also function as pack mules, where they move great nunbers of supplies in and out of the mine. Are these typical Kilionos spiders? Also how big are they? I wanna say a couple dozen times bigger than a full grown human man. Yes or no?

Lets say man-sized at the largest and those ones really don't like to leave the mines.

Big dog sized spiders have been better domesticated and are pets.
>>
>>40515545
Y
>>
>>40515545
I'd like to think the pet ones are about the size of medium sized dogs, the largest ones which were selectively bred are about the size of actual cattle.
>>
>>40515470
I will agree with that. It's a waste of good spider and it's just not practical speed wise when compared to other methods.

In seriousness, Sol does seem like the sort who would make the use of everything he can to increase productivity so long as it doesn't screw over his people. Life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Life gives you giant spiders, make ropes, bandages, and utility supplies.

Incidentally, I can see small, fluffy spiders being the pet of choice for children since I'm sure the standard pet fair would be unavailable.
>>
>>40515470
That's true. There are better warbeasts in the galaxy, and would probably be outdone by tanks anyways. Guard dog spiders can be used to help in exploration though, among other things. Utility over war in this department.
>>
So giant spiders are normally a bit bigger that regular cows yes? Do they produce more milk? What happens to the hundreds of babies they tend to produce?
>>
Spider silk is used to make clothing, ropes, bandaids, and whips. Yes or no?
>>
>>40515756
Perhaps the largest ones have smaller clutches, a few dozen rather than hundreds. They're tended to and fed appropriate amounts of raw protein for their growth.

Yes.

There was the suggestion of engineering them into big ol' meat worms, bred solely to be slaughtered and eaten. I thought about having them be used to dig for possible expansion in the future, but like the war-spiders, those can be outdone by melta-drills in the end.

Otherwise, the natural, likely vicious ones aught to make for good hunting.
>>
>>40516909
Drop pods filled with spiders when?

>We call this maneuver silk rain.
>>
So GIGANTIC meat worms and Hueg milk-spiders. I believe everyone agrees yes? Also I personally feel that the spiders should be tank sized if not bigger at most. This way they can provide milk for the billion people on Kilionos. Yes or no?
>>
>>40517020
No. No way to support the spiders themselves with enough food to make it practical, and housing singular giant spiders is riskier than housing multiple smaller spiders if they eat overall the same amount as it lessens the impact of them becoming ill.
>>
>>40517020
I am all for Arachnaroks in our army. We must have a personal pet named floofy.
>>
>>40517020

I thought it was agreed on smaller, dog sized spiders for pets/food with cattle sized ones for mining.
>>
>>40517092
Wait, didn't we just discuss vat grown food and meat worms? We would have enough to food them by providence of vat grown food if you think about it.

Also it would be easy if they were pack hunters and used the old ork tunnels as warrens and breeding grounds.
>>
Since we didn't talk a lot about the crops (eat your veggies, citizen), I was thinking that most are vat grown or tended to in massive underground greenhouses, with some citizens having small private gardens to grow food now that they don't have to worry as much about vicious orks or ravenous mutants, but still have the memories of food shortages fresh in their minds. There are probably a variety of underground fungus around. With some luck, a few of those won't be poisonous or inedible and could be cultured.

What do you guys think?
>>
>>40517109
I feel like dog sized ones are for pets, guards, and tracking, while the cattle sized ones are for food, silk, and mules.
>>
>>40517165
Yep, sounds good.
>>
Yeah we still have cow sized Arachnids. So lets see about our exotic Kilionos culture. Vatgrown food, most people eat meat worms and drink spider milk. They also wear spider silk that is quite high quality on its own and had many uses. How do you all feel about mushrooms? Wat special bout them?

Just throw shit at the wall. Something might stick.
>>
>>40521964
Of course we can. Lets see taboos...not letting others express themselves is considered terrible unless the person is commiting a criminal act. Also one odditiy is that they consider stars and suns sacred and hate being unable to see nearby stars when on a spaceship for example. How does that sound? Have anything else?
>>
>>40521995
Kinda too big. Was thinking beinblade or chimera sized. Actually it could just be a bit smaller than Sol himself, like how leman russ' wolves were the size of a space marine.
>>
>>40521995
Alright for cultural taboos I would assume that general laziness and wastefulness would be one, another could be cowardice and refusing to help another in need or in a combat situation.

Cultural oddities would be sun tattoos and having stars painted upon their armor for luck or some shit like that. Also there could be smaller pet spiders that the men might have on them for good luck like the cats that US soldiers have. Also there could be a Ork teeth hunting thing where troops and people would kill an ork and steal its teeth and use it like a necklace for status or some shit.

>>40522047
do these ideas work?

Well, our people are very free-spirited and independent, there's not many cultural taboos that come from a culture like that. Maybe they don't take kindly to other people trying to get into their business, or are a bit more hostile to outsiders. I take it that if you show weakness you might not get that much respect from society at large, we're a cut-throat and mostly stoic culture. Not saying they're emotionless at all, but they don't show respect if you can't fill a job. I think that goes well with our independent & militaristic culture.
>>
>>40522316
which is odd since individualism and military culture are kinda the opposite of each other. Are we going for a US military style where if the officers get killed the sergeants and lower ranks can still do their jobs?
>>
>>40522357
Yes. See in the military they adhere to a strict military ranking and code naturally, but the men are all trained how to be flexible if need be and tend to slightly personalize their armor. Just enough so it can be shown to be theirs, but not so much that they look like a different rank or not even a Kilion soldier.

They don't have to be the opposite of each other. Military combat is viewed as prestigious, and a way to help your country. Not to mention that's how citizenship is earned, so they'll want to do that. They respect strength & the ability to do a job right because that's how they earned their citizenship. It's very individualistic, but also collective. I suppose we'd transfer the soldiers to another company, depending on how many are still there, train one of their members to become an officer, and re-establishing the company.
Also, like all armies, we beat obedience into their heads. Insubordination, like in every army, is not tolerated.
>>
>>40522721
that makes sense. We are going to have different types of guards units correct? Stealth units, airborne guys, mechanized infantry, tank units etc etc
>>
>>40522835
Yep. Splinter cell-esque agents, we can have parachutes for paratroopers, we don't have any power armor yet, but I guess we're planning on it, and we presumably have some armored vehicles.
>>
>>40522475
Wait we are? I mean we agreed with combining our SM and regular army but I missed the part where we agreed on infantry focus. I'd much prefer long range and air craft.
>>
>>40523051
Our forces are a mix of both. Hard artillery assaults while our troops advance uncontested alongside tanks and space marines.
>>
>>40523051
We are combining both, and we are using air craft and such. We're not limiting our tactics, I guess instead of getting massive amounts of tanks or aircraft, we're spending that money on training and weapons. We're still going to have lots of vehicles and such, but our soldiers will be hot shit.
>>
>>40522047
Considering that this is a hive/forge world I am guessing that a large part of the population has not actually seen the sky at all.
>>
I'd say that selfishness should kind of be a taboo. I mean this is a death world after all. The hives where barely functional properly before we came along. There was constant raiding by Orcs and Mutant scums. Each day another challenge for the community at large to soldier through.

Something about enclosed space aswell.. Let's see. How about taking in that ones room or the like is ones castle to the next level? Considering the tight living quarters of a hive, not counting the upper hive, and the fact that factories and all these caves are not very spacious themselves then people would be in very close proximity to eachother. Now people do need their personal space, perhaps more so in a society where that thing is lacking such as this. Perhaps entering someones room uninvited or attacking someone in there could be seen as a great offence?

As for the military matter. Professional army all the way. So no locking ourselves to one single doctrine.

Things were going well enough for companies to form, in spite of the raiding. They got through by the skin of their teeth and being ruthless as all hell. I remember someone writing about how most people had ancient family heirlooms, most likely guns. Maybe they really, REALLY don't like people messing with their shit. It would explain how their tech level was preserved as well as it was. Besides, if there's anything history has taught us, is that communism doesn't work. People will always be selfish, if not by choice, then by necessity. However, being selfless isn't how they survived I would think, they did that through desperate patriotism. It explains the militant culture too well.
I don't know a place in the world where breaking into someone's house or shooting them in their own home isn't a dick move.

Three types of military service:

1. Mandatory Service, which is required for citizenship. At this point most have some experience with guns and swords, either due to being in gangs or just personal preference. Not considered too great, due to everyone doing it at one point.

2. Voluntary/Permanent Service, is not required but is looked highly upon. It shows ones willingness to go above themselves and fight for Kilionos, and most everyone who does this is held in high esteem among those that dont. Naturally in such a culture there are always millions of eager recruits

3. Penal Service, is what happens to criminals. They are stripped of individual rights(something which is considered almost torture by Kilions)and sent to fight for the people. These people are looked down upon until their service is up, in which case they are brought back into society.

Thoughts?
>>
>>40524387
Makes no sense as >>40524453 pointed out. Unpaid labor would be a better punishment.
>>
>>40524722
1. is good and lasts for training (2 years)+service (4 years)
2. is only taken from the top 5 % of the mandated training taken after the 2 year training period for additional conditioning. Refusal of the offer is seen as cowardly. This is a permanent job. You don't quit the army.
3. Not too happy with this. a criminal does not make for a good modern soldier. Better to make the criminal do unpaid labor for a factory with the promise of guaranteed employment after the sentence is over.

Jebus. With that kind of manpower we'll have the next ten systems in a few years.
>>
>>40524722
I am entirely against number 3. Penal service is something I do not really like at all.

Firstly they are unreliable tool as they do not want to be there from the beginning. Unreliable and unmotivated tools make for a sub-par product.

Secondly penal legions are mainly used for cannon fodder after all and that seems rather wasteful and against Sol's way of efficiency.

Better criminals be forced into factories where they can be productive.

Mandatory service is good. Will give us a large pool of trained recruits to draw from in times of war. (Implying there will ever be peace)
>>
>>40524853
>>40525005
>>40524994
Alright no 3, instead prisoners work in factories. Yes or no? Any other suggestions?
>>
>>40525174
Yes.

>>
>>40525174
Yes to factories.
>>
So I just refreshed my memory of hive cities, and wow I was mentally wrong. So since each hive city is basically a massive mountain nation that is self contained, it would make sense for each to have its own different style of military units. One could produce typical soldiers(Nods) and another could produce elites(Helghast). What do you think? Care to expand on that?
>>
>>40525348
Well a Hive can consist of more than one billion living individuals each so there is a real possibility that there could be cultural differences from one side of a hive to another, especially in the lower hive and the under hive..

We could also make it so that NOD soldiers are the common soldier and the Helghast could be the former nobles own elite forces.

>>40525207
Also this could be a good idea. We will need to quickly increase our numbers once we are found and if we have this pool of potential recruits already lined up for us then that would be just great. Could probably add orphans to that so we can get our own Shocktrooper program like the Imperium has.

>>40525174
Seems like a good idea, I'll be honest. Penal legions are only kept in line by explosive collars and heavy surveillance. Meanwhile we have a shitton of recruits. They are literally not worth our time.
>>40525348 No. Oh sweet Emperor no. That would turn into a rivalry pretty quick, and a city whose specific purpose is to churn out better troops than another city is-In a military culture especially- A REALLY bad idea. That would turn into a rivalry instantly, and over time would probably drive our planet to war. No, everyone is a recruit, and you EARN the chance to become an elite.
>>
>>40525207
Agree with this.

>>40525514
>We could also make it so that NOD soldiers are the common soldier and the Helghast could be the former nobles own elite forces.
This also makes logical sense. I mean, the nobles had to have had some sort of well equipped military around to keep from getting fucked by Orks all this time. It would make sense if we had those nobles that we didn't purge lend them to us for the good of Kilionos.

Sure, we could open some military academies. It only makes sense, really.
I said this earlier, I think your idea might be better though, that the children of our best soldiers are picked as candidates for marines. Usually space marines are all like "I put my life as a human behind when I became a space marine." But in our cases Little Timothas would grow up to be just like his daddy, like he always wanted. He'd be doing his ancestors proud.
>>
>>40526219
We going to be bro like the Salamanders.
>>
>>40526219
Being the child of someone doesn't make him the same as his parent. Just give everyone at basic training a genetic checkup for compatibility and give those that pass the honour of getting SM preparation training after the mandatory service. No sense in creating class difference by making some children more important than others.
>>
File: BloodRaven.png (38 KB, 184x208)

>>40526309
I was thinking it would give incentive for the soldiers to strive to be the best they could be, on top of giving the space marines extra motivation/humanity. Think about it, if I said you were in the top 10% of the marine core, your son could become an angel, would you try and achieve that? And if you were a child and I told you your daddy would be so proud of you for doing this, wouldn't you train harder? I know I'd try to be a marine if it meant my son would be the paragon of humanity/culture that my planet strives for. It's the best possible life you could give your son, in the eyes of our planet.
>>
>>40526569
but the end result would be suboptimal SM sure motivation does a lot but when it comes to the best of the best everyone is limited by their genetics. What if a child is born to someone that only finished basic training, started a family and got a job. This child would not be tested for aptitude for the SM although he/she could have the requisite genetic purity and motivation. This would mean a large portion of our populace would never be tested.
>>
Personally when it comes to marines I dont think it should be stated when a child is good enough for the marines. One day he sshould just dissapear, along with his records. Even if the other kids know what happened they didnt have to worry about him getting special privileges or feeling like they were failures cause they didnt qualify for space marine. Better yet, dont recruit from them, recruit from OTHER children, that way the class of 300 stormtroopers stays 300 stormtroopers.
>>
>>40526780
Joining the SM will be voluntary. We've built this society up as valuing independence and there should be no secrecy on the survival rates or requirements.
>>
File: space-marines.jpg (304 KB, 1680x941)
304 KB

>>40526693
Of course everyone's limited by their genetics. I'm not saying we take all of the kids whose parents meet the prerequisite, but I think they'd be more likely to have the right stuff. Also, if we tested the soldiers/parents for genetic purity beforehand, we'd be able to tell. We could do that as part of the recruitment process on mandatory service.
>>40526780 So children we just think might possibly be good space marines are just taken off the street? Sounds janky to me.
>>
>>40526978
Sure sounds good. People know they might die, but also know they would be making the ultimate act of selflessness. Considering millions sign up for military service from every hive city, I imagine millions more will go for space marine. Shall our legion eventually reach or surpass the ultramarines?

>>40526985
Thats kinda what happens to 90% of other astartes recruits.
>>
>>40526985
but this would still limit the amount of SM aspirants we can have to the amount of children our top soldiers have. We need the whole population to be tested so that we can get as many SM as possible.
