>HONG PYONKYO
>JUNE 5, 200X
>6:17 PM

In the city of Hong Pyonkyo, millions of cars speed and shift through the myriad roads of the city, bringing a constant sense of light and energy, even in the latest of hours. Even in the evening, hundreds of cars pack the mega-avenues, their brightly tinted bodies adding to the amped up colours of the couple dozen brightly lit billboards that dance overhead.

And you are among them. Your name...well, your name doesn't matter. You're a delivery boy, and right now, you've got an order of kim-chee burgers that needs to be delivered a mah-jong joint. As you speed down the highway, two black sportsers rocket pass you-and crash right into a truck ahead!

There's no time to lose-you:

>elegantly drift past them, cutting onto a nearby offramp and bypassing the wreck.
>quickly speed through a gap in the crash before it closes, escaping the traffic shitstorm about to happen.
>Brutally ram through a safety barrier nearby, and force your way out of the danger zone.

Pick an option, and roll 1d100. Higher is better. I go with the option that is picked the most, usually after 10 minutes. Also, I type slow, so be warned.

Your hands move instinctively, thanks to your years of experience playing cheap indian racing games, and your push the delivery car to it's limits, ramming the safety orange barriers to bits, gunning it past all the safety bumps that turn your van into a mini-rollercoaster. Thank the heavens that Kim Jong-Un was wise enough to come up with seatbelts.

As the shitty vehicle responds to your efforts, engine squealing with effort, you look into the back mirror to examine the accident. Behind you you is a twisted mess of metal and steel, though it seems like the drivers are okay, slowly, extracting themselves from the wreckage.

Then the sirens start. A police car appears in your rearview-and speeds right past the accident. A loudspeaker blares to life, and over it, you hear-

“Will the driver in the green delivery van pull over. I repeat. Driver in the green van, pull over!”

You look around. Not a single delivery van in sight-minus yours, complete with your company's contact number.

Yeah, they're talking to you.

You:
>try and gun it. You only got one point left on your license, and you sure as hell aren't going to try losing it over this.
>Pull over and try to explain your actions. You only got one point left on your license, and you sure as hell aren't going to try losing it over this.
>Other. [Write in your own choice of action here-and you can do this from any point from now on.]

Go offroad. The riverbank is fairly clear this time of day.

You shake your head, and pull over, keeping the engine idle. As the police car pulls over, a solitary cop steps out. Female, young.
And naïve. As she heads her way over, you wait until she is right at your bumper, and slam the vehicle into action, rocketing into the parallel traffic, and cut onto an offramp, right into the heart of Hong Pyonkyo, where she'll never be able to follow. As you head towards your destination, a single thought drifts across your mind

Well, that turned out well.

Turning off the ignition, you hop out of the car, and take a moment to enjoy the sights and smells of the city. Glass towers reach to the sky, connected by the various roads and highways, filled with people and cars. As you meander to the back, pulling out the bamboo boxes that contain the order, you take a look at the mahjong joint. The smell of cheap cigarettes and alcohol fills the air, and you walk in. Inside, the old and weary play with tiles, seemingly unaware of the scent of tobacco and beer in the air, filling it with murmured conversation. Standing at the entrance, you scan the room for your possible client-and spot her. Lady Genki, as she likes to be called, an old granny with too much make-up and excessively long nails. She glares at you, and you can feel holes being burned into your uniform. You quietly work your way over.

“That'll be 1200 won, Lady Genki.”

“You late.”

“1200 won.”

“but you late, burger boy.”

You shift uncomfortably. No matter how fast you drive here to deliver, this happens. You decide to:

>Keep on repeating the price until she finally gives up and forks over the bills.
>rationally explain there was a crash, and nothing you could have done to prevent it.
>other.

>Stare into her eyes, take out the burger, start eating it in front of her.

You repeat the price.

“1200 won.”

“But you take too long. I getting old. No time to wait for slow drivah.”

“1200 won.”

“Why you drive so slow anyway? You getting bad eyes? Hairy palms?” She makes a suggestive gesture with her hands that you choose to ignore.

“Food getting cold. You pay or no?”

She sighs and hands over the cash.

“Drive faster burger boy. Maybe pick me up after work, I show you a few tricks.” She says the last bit as she exhales on a cigarette, blowing the smoke right into your face. As you cough it off, you walk out, shaking your head, and drive back to work.

The smiling face of Burger-chan greets you in all her plastic glory, standing mutely outside the restaurant's doors, eternally bowing towards the sidewalk and any potential customers that might walk by McDono's, the premier fast food delivery chain. The customers sit in here, oblivious to you, stuffing their face with sushi fries and dumpling sandwiches. You head to the back, and check the delivery list-all taken care of and accounted for. You turn towards your manager, Robert Hikari, a heavyset, blonde immigrant from Merica with teeth that are slightly too large, and call out his name, breaking his attention from whatever video game he seems to be playing on his Playfriend Portable.

“Is there any more work to be done?”

“N-no, Kim-san.” he stutters. “Y-you can go if you want, but I'd like if you could stay. Burger-Chan is making her live performance in San Seoul in a little bit, and I'd like someone to watch the counter for me as I watch it in the back room. I c-can watch on the TVs out here, but it just wouldn't be the same.”

You translate that into your head as-if he has to stay out here, he can't follow along with the a-pop idol's dance, which he knows every single step and move of.

You:
>Take off. You're not spending time here just because he's got a celebrity crush.
>Stay here. He has turned a blind eye to your reckless driving, after all.
>other.

"I'll stay here..."

"Excellent!"

"If you give me that raise. You forget my delivery times are why we're the top delivery in the chain."

"B-but....fine." Stuck between missing his idol or having to write corporate for a few more bucks, Robert makes his choice, and you nod, taking your place at the counter as he walks into the back room.

You hear the music start up, incessantly bright and cheerful, and Burger-chan, the a-pop idol, comes onscreen, dancing, singing, and having a good time. Behind you, you can hear the light panting of your manager he attempts to match her pace, feet working into an awkward sort of shuffle that sort of looks like the dance happening on-screen. As customers come to and from the counter, you hand them their orders and take the cash, dutifully doing your job, while trying to ignore Robert singing into his flip phone five feet away.

Suddenly, an express order pops up on the screen, and you look at it, and back at Robert's office. You have to deliver it, but someone needs to man the counter.

“Robert...” You call out.

“What is it?”

“Express order. You need to get out here.”

B-but Burger-chan...”

“I know, I know.”

He shuffles over resignedly.

“Fine. But make it quick. Take your car.” Your eyes light up, and immediately, you grab the order and jump into your car, a:

You turn your key in the ignition, and the engine hums to life-no more shitty delivery vans now-you're in something a little more classy. As you roll onto the streets, you hear the same music from the concert blasted all over the streets.

And it's getting louder.

Looking around, you see a massive horde of cars, all with McDono colours and Burger-chan statues mounted on them, forming a sort of parade-and they're in your way.

Working for the most popular restaurant restaurant in time really sucks sometimes. Gripping the steering wheel tightly, you focus. You need to get this food delivered. You:

SPEED: One of the front cars looks sort of like a ramp. If you gain enough speed, you could gun it over the entire line.
STRENGTH: Or, you could take a shortcut-right through the wall of the nearby mall.
STEERING: And if you're really crazy, you could try maneuvering-right through the parade.

Time to go. Turning the wheel as the parade rushes towards you, you slide between two cars, and work the to gas to urge the car forward, dashing underneath a particularly high truck. Slamming the handbrake, you lnauch yourself into a drift, sliding right down the middle of the parade, and ease off to let the car powerslide once more past the last.

And that's the parade taken care of. As your car accelerates down the highway, the music reaches a fervor, along with the city around it. People are cheering screaming, going crazy for burger-chan-and you've got food to deliver, so you've got to step to it, so you tear into the city night, burning rubber. Your next delivery to you to the seedy part of town, filled with bars and nightclubs. Your destination? Buddha's Belly, a nightclub controlled by the triad, known as a den of vices.

Including gluttony, it seems. You hold up your package to the bouncer as you approach the entrance, the soles of your feet reverberating the thumping inside the night-club. He waves you in, and the music assaults your ears. Slowly you work your way in, and as a bouncer near a side door nods at you, you walk towards him.

“I got a delivery for a Mr. Lin?”

The bouncer nods, and waves you in. As you trudge down the hallway, the sounds from outside die down almost immediately. You are left with an eerie quiet as you walk down the crimson-carpeted hallway.

You arrive at a small door. Before you can knock a voice speaks.

“Leave it.”

You pause.

The voice speaks again.

“Money is on envelope on floor.”

And indeed it is.

You pick it up, thank Mr Lin for his business, and walk away. Just another day as a delivery boy.
{QUEST END}

Sorry for the abrupt ending guys, it's that I really muddle this concept. As it turns out, I can't capture the thrill of going fast in a car, and if I focus too much on the setting, there's not much car involved. I think I need to rework this quest a whole bunch before I try it again.

Any suggestions?

Damn, I thought it was kind of fun. Liking the Speed, Strength, Skill mechanics.

Maybe add more descriptors of sensations in the car as well as the city around us? The engine, vibrations, etc? The setting's good too, really like the mish-mash of Asian countries.

I thought it was a good start anyway, would have liked to see where it went.

OP, do you realize that's, like, $1.20?

it's because im using yen prices with won as the unit-part of that cultural mishmash of asia i wanted to capture
