>In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only... GOVERNMENT!
>You are John Erlwise Shabti, an imperial noble who was granted governorship over the planet Valencia. From your capital city in Valencia Prime, you over see the development of your planet and the growth of its power.
>Last thread, we finally started learning about this source thing Septimus has been looking for. Evidently, it is a sentient thing that has been on the planet for many years. It created the fungal zombies from the moon, basing their structure off Ork DNA.
>Worse yet, it apparently resides underneath the abandoned hive city we just moved into, which has a blockade of heretics and xenos hiding in the under hive, including a chaos Helbrute.
>Septimus went forth to try and break through the heretics ranks, gaining the support of Frederick and the Valencian military
>Furthermore, you gave a speech at the second planetary anniversary, which motivated workers... while losing morale among soldiers. Military actions this month have a -10 while production actions have a +10
>Valencia stats:
>Months since founding: 26
>Months in a year: 13

You sit in your office, signing off on a few laws before calling it a day. It's late in the afternoon and you are ready to drink away your problems with some nice vintage amasec. Which makes it all the more annoying when one of the palace workers enters into your office. "Sir, I don't mean to intrude but you have received a very important message. Would you like to hear it now sir?"

Sighing, you get up and pour yourself a glass of amasec, swirling it a bit before sipping. "Go ahead." You say in a tired voice. The man nods and unravels the scroll in his hands. "The royal Jucinda family, who hold governorship over the Helvera system, formally invite you and any guests to a party honoring the 18th birthday of Fausta Helvera, daughter of planetary governor Ramalies Helvera." You recognize the names from your time living in the nobility before you became a governor. The Helvera family is very old and very rich, many of their earliest known members being among the first Rogue Traders. It still didn't make sense why they would invite you... or at least, it didn't until the worker spoke further. "Fausta is formally declaring her intention to wed and is looking for suitors worthy enough of the Helvera name." The man closes the scroll, looking up. "What shall we respond with sir? The party isn't for 3 months, so we have time." You mull it over. In all the business of establishing your governorship, you hadn't thought on such matters as marrying and leaving a lineage. Hell, you don't even have an heir yet. You turn back to the man and say:
>What is our response? Do we take the invitation of not? Denying it may be taken as an insult to the Helvera family.

Meanwhile, across the continent, Septimus, surrounded by a group of veteran Kriegers sneaks his way down through the under hive.

Luck seemed to be on Septimus's side. It was late enough that most of the rabble had gone to sleep, leaving only a few drunken heretics up, with the occasional dark mechanicum member scurrying about. He even saw the Helbrute, slumped over with many cords sticking out of it, hereteks tending to the needs of their defender. No one noticed Septimus and his squad working their way deeper into the hive. A tang of fear struck Septimus. Even he didn't truly know what he would face down here. He had only a vague inclination based on years of study and what was told to him during his years of service in the Ordo Xenos. Still, the fact that the thing residing at the bottom of the Hive was a threat to the Imperium meant he would push on no matter what. Prepared to meet his fate whatever it may be, he began descending into the absolute lowest levels of the under hive.
You wake up the next morning, getting dressed in your usual attire. You share breakfast with Frederick, who can't help but report on the siege. Apparently a few heretics made for the blockade only to be swiftly gun down, though Frederick fears the soldiers are seeming unmotivated lately. Afterwards, you head to your office. Decisions needed to be made.

>55 a partial success
The years being left alone had taken their tole on the machines of the Hive. Many were beyond repair and needed to be replaced. This was especially hard to do in the case where the machinery was so large that several buildings needed to be removed in order to take the machine out of its place. Progress is slow, but basic electricity, city lighting, and various other simple but necessary systems are brought back online.
A week and a half into the repair effort, you receive information. Septimus has emerged from under the hive, lacking the unit of Krieg body guards he brought down there with him. He seems partially crazed, mumbling to himself and his hair has turned white. He apparently wishes to speak to you about what he discovered down there. He refuses to do it over vox, wanting to ensure no one but you and him would hear the words spoken.

You agree to meet with Septimus, though you secretly have a small squad of guardsmen stationed nearby, ready to leap into action should something go wrong. You meet Severus in a tent set up for him at the siege line. He looks like hell, constantly shaking, his eyes blood shot. As soon as he sees you, he stands. "Governor, thank the Emperor you're here!" He says, his voice frantic. "Severus, by the Golden Throne, what happened to you? And your squad?" You ask, troubled by the sight of the normally unphased Septimus looking so deranged. "I-I... We saw the source. We saw it and... I had to kill them Governor. What's down there... knowledge of it can't be let out. I had to do it, Inquisitor's duty." He says, his voice shakey, a sad look in his eyes. "You can't go down there. You can't send anything down there. The source.. the source is guarded. It's protected. But you can't go down there. Even the smallest change and... and it's free..." His body shudders as he speaks of this, imagining horrors few could fathom. "It's powerful... even in it's jail it can affect the world in some ways... but... but it is contained, and that's what matters. Leave the heretics in place... they'll keep anyone from going down there and seeing... it...." Septimus begins to weep as he speaks, burying his face into his hands.

>Rolls average to 48, a partial success with a consequence
It seems that, even through his crazed mind, Septimus either knew this was coming or read your thoughts. In either case, as soon as the first few guardsmen stepped into the tent, they were both fried under a blast of eldritch lightning from Septimus. "I do not blame you governor... but I cannot die now!" Septimus yells, you jumping to the ground as he lets out blast after blast. However, even with his powers, there were many guardsmen and many shots, a few getting past his defenses and striking him. While most were non-damaging, Septimus apparently wearing some advanced armor, one struck true, hitting Septimus in the side. Screaming in pain, Septimus lets out a psychic shock wave, blasting you, the guardsmen, and the tent flying. You hit the ground hard with a thud, cracking a rib in the process. You look up to see Septimus running away, clutching his side wound. He's injured but not dead. He turns back as he runs. "Do not pursue me! I'm getting off planet! As far from that... thing as possible!" He yells.
>Do you give orders to pursue?
>>

>>
>>40416923
This. We still don't know who, if anyone, he's reporting to, but as an agent of the Inquisition his fate should be in their hands now. They should also be informed that there's some *thing* below the city, and that he advised us to leave the heretics underground as a buffer between it and us.
>>
>>40417015

I disagree that setting him loose on the galaxy is a good idea.

Lets not forget his boss would expect us to kill him if he is clearly influenced by the source... Which he is.

Kill him now while we can save ourselves a full daemonic incursion

The guardsmen rush over, helping you to your feet. A few of them raise their las rifles, attempting to make a few long range shots, but you raise your hands. "Stop, let him go!" You say, flinching in pain from your cracked rib. "Get me to a medicae and have the astropaths contact the Inquisition. Tell them that Septimus appears unhinged and has informed us not to go beneath the city and to keep the heretics in place as a buffer. He's their problem now." You saw, flinching as a guardsman throws your arm over his shoulder and helps you into the medical tent.
You remain in the hospital for a while, multiple of your ribs having been cracked apparently.
>Month 27
Septimus has left the planet by now, your astropaths no longer picking up his psychic signature. In any case, he is gone and no longer your problem. The party is in two months still.
>What are our priorities for this month?
>>
>>40417061

You almost can't believe your eyes when the auspex lights up. Whatever is under the hive, it is giving off a huge amount of power, the bright light of which almost covers the entire auspex screen. However, nothing else is able to be known about the source besides its massive power output. There is too much interference from the city walls and the power given off by this thing.

"Oh, but my friend, that is why I'm there. I've begun using the planet's surface as a place to... store certain objects. In a safe location where others will not go looking for them.
