Rules are simple. I’ll offer options, plus the option to create your own. Majority wins, unless it is extremely out of character.

- - -

You are Anastasia Arcanea III, a member of the royal family in the prosperous kingdom of Arcanidia. Your is the unified empire of humanity, the last great country of mankind to stand against the kingdoms of the Fey, the Dwarves, Elves and the like. You have been away from the capital for many years, learning about the duties and history of your country. And you have come back with a desire.

You wish to become the queen. There are many ways to do this; eliminate your siblings, win the hearts and loyalties of a powerful institution, or even straight out conquering the country through revolutionary force. You don’t have quite all the skills to work your way through the labyrinth of the Court of the Capital City, Arcos. But you will learn, and you will triumph.

First, though, why did you choose to pursue the throne?

>I am the strongest willed and most worthy member of the royal family (+Agression)
>I had a vision while praying of me sitting on the throne (+Piety)
>I wish to be a kind, wise ruler and want what is best for the people(+Compassion)

You have decided that compared to the stagnant views of your Eldest brother, the laziness of the other, and the sheer manipulative will of your eldest sister that your will is a hundred times greater than theirs. You are the true heir in spirit of the Last Kingdom of Man, and no force will stop you.

Your carriage stops at the steps of the gilded castle. It is the same as your remember when, under the advice of your eldest brother Joseph, you were sent away. You never quite forgave him from separating you, but now you are grown and intend to take the throne from him however necessary.

You settle into your room without much fanfare, you doubt most people in the castle are even aware of your return. Good, considering your orders to your carriage driver and the guards were to remain silent. This is your chance to make a great impression on who you first reveal your return to.

You could simple walk into the Throne room, the nobility always loved their spectacle. Or the church and receive a blessing from the Patriarch, the religious Leader and speaker for the Three Gods. Or you could visit your sick mother, not only pleasing the commoners, but paying your good wishes to your younger siblings.

Do you
>Go to the Throne Room
>Go to the Church
>Go to your Mother’s Bed Chambers

(There will be plenty of opportunities to increase revolutionary score, this is only the starting motivations. More than one way to skin a cat and all that)

You unpack the last of your small personal effects and decide to visit your mother. You could not convince your tutors to allow you to visit when she first became bedridden, and a part of you never forgot how hard you cried when you truly thought you’d never see her again.

The halls of the castle have hardly changed. Still solid stone walls with ancient enchantments to retain warmth and protect the royal family. The floors are polished marble with luxurious rugs and tapestries at every turn. The way is etched in your mind as you approach the Queen’s bedchamber. You almost step inside, when you hear your mother speak.

“…took up his sword and stood before the dragon! ‘I shall not bend to your will, monster!’ and he rushed…’” Your mother is reading a story. The Tale of King Simon I, the founder of your family kingdom. She’s probably to your youngest brother, Lorenzo, or Baby Lou your father wrote in his letters. The story is almost over, so maybe it would be polite to wait.

(+Commoner Status, Bonus for Politeness)

You stay quiet as your wait outside the door, wanting to be polite to your mother and youngest sibling. At one point, a servant comes around the corner carrying a tray full of food, but stops when she sees you. For a second she seems confused, then her eyes go wide. You merely smile and put a finger to your lips, telling her to be quiet and wait.

“…and so, Simon the Conqueror became Simon the Unifier, and with the bones of that dragon built the foundation of Castle Arcos, where you live today.”

You smile and motion the servant to go in first, which she nods dumbly and does before you enter. Not only was your mother and brother there, but also your younger sister, though she seemed bored and is flipping through the pages of a War History book.

Your brother notices you first, and clings to his mother in fear. He hardly knew you, given how young he was when you were forced to leave. Your sister drops the book and stares at you with the same wide eyes the servant girl made. Your mother finally looks at you and tears well up in her eyes.

“Anastasia…” she whispers in disbelief.

You can hardly contain yourself as you rush over and embrace your mother. You feel something moist on your shoulder and the shuddering gasp as your mother is now openly crying.

“Oh Anastasia...I missed you so much.” She says in between her small sobs of happiness.

“Don’t hurt mommy!” Lorenzo says, tugging at your hair a bit.

“Oh, Lorenzo, behave.” Your mother says, trying to put herself back together. “This is your older sister. She’s been gone but now she’s back. She’s back.” Your mother is holding onto your hands and smiling like the sun. Your younger sister is looking a little awkward, unsure of how to approach you since she was rather young herself when you left, but your little brother seems to be warming up to you now that your Mother has assuaged his fear. “Oh, Stanza!” The queen calls out to the servant. “Go get the king. He’ll want to see you too!”

The servant starts out the door, but you almost want to stop her. Would it be better to have the king come here for a more private family reunion, or to go out to the Throne room yourself and announce your return?

More respectable that way. Monarchs don't go to people, people go to monarchs.
>>

“Wait.” You say, standing up and brushing out the wrinkles in your dress. “Mother, with your permission, I would like to go to meet the King in person.” Your mother looks a little forlorn for a moment, but smiles and nods. Young Lorenzo curls up with your mother and you smile at him and your sister one last time before you return to the hallway.

As you walk down the hallway, you occasionally catch a servant whispering and looking at you. Your entrance won’t have quite the surprise, but you still hope to make it memorable.

The doors seem to open as your approach and the Throne Room reveals itself to you. Usually a bustle of activity, all of the Lords and Duchesses are now quiet and staring at you. The pillars and seats of the heart of the Arcanidian Government is rank with perfumes and make-ups that disguise a vile underbelly that your naive father takes less seriously than he should. But hopefully someday you will be able to change that.

The King is on his throne, occupied speaking to a Baron. This is your chance to do something truly memorable at your entrance.

(Sorry, my internet is being awful)

A part of you wants to go and hug him, to embrace your father. But not here. Not in front of the people that are, from this point on, your enemies. Even if they believe they are loyal, many nobles here wouldn’t hesitate to destroy you in order to elevate their own station. You must be in control and reserved, or else someone may try to trip you up.

You approach the golden throne, inlaid with diamonds and rubies, and give a distinguished bow. Your head lowers and you stare at your feet until the King addresses you.

“My Anastasia, I was not expecting your return so soon after your lessons ended.” Your father says, giving you the signal to stand up. You and the King hold the Court in rapt attention. The older man seems a little flustered at your determined demeanor. You were only a girl when you left, but now you are a true lady. “I had hoped you would seek travel in the world and experience life away from the royal commotion we old folk occupy our time with.”

“I had a duty to my kingdom, Your Majesty.” You respond, with a slight bow from your neck. “We are a kingdom at war on both sides, from the Dwarves and Elves. The people need strong leaders, and as the 4th Princess I had hoped that my own reservation and desire to help guide the people would give them courage. I am here to support you, my King, and the whole of Arcanidia.”

Though you are sure there are enough cynics in the Court that refuse to believe any heroic proclamation, regardless of where it comes from, your father seems incredibly pleased.
“You are a shining example, my dear! I am proud of you and your courage and commitment. Many could learn from such focused loyalty.” You bow and turn away as the court starts to sink back into the normal mélange of whispers.

(Your presence is now well known the capital.)

You have some free time before dinner. One of the servants informs you that she is your personal handmaiden and will attend to your desires, assigned by the Queen herself. She tells you her name in Melaine, and though she is small and a little jumpy, she seems nice enough. Melaine tells you that what was going to be a celebration for a great Victory in the north against the Dwarves is now becoming a celebration for your return. Father always did like to party. You’ll only have time to enjoy one activity before you need to begin preparing for the feast.

Once you reach a rather secluded area, you ask Melaine if there are any interesting rumors circulating about the castle. Not particularly about anyone, just any off beat whispers working their way through the servants ears.

“Well, my lady, there are always some rumors going around. Not many of the scullery maids can keep their lips sealed even when it’s good for them. There’s rumors circulating that Master Librarian Marcelo is illegally practicing Magic, which as you know is very heavily regulated. Some people think that the new Kitchen Maid Franca is some sort of hedge witch. Laura swears she cured her gleet. And I think someone said something about glowing coming from the Groundskeepers hut last night.”

Melaine spoke like a child, quick and almost unintelligible, but you managed to understand most of it. You thank her and tell her to keep her eyes peeled for anything else suspicious going on.

- - -

By the time a servant comes to inform you of dinner, Melaine has just finished tying the last strand of silk in place on your dress. It shines a brilliant gold, white and red, the colors of your family crest. Melaine shushes the other servant out and goes to put the last touches of make-up on your face.

Thanking her for her service, you dismiss her for the night and make your way to the Dining Hall. Jesters and Musicians entertain the crowd as the royal families and the wealthiest merchant mingle. The announcer yells your name to the crowd, and names you the Guest of Honor.

In your country, this means that you get your choice of seat in the house, and may go wherever you please to grace the table with your presence as to not move for you would be rude beyond measure. You spy your mother and father sitting close, but if you were to sit there you would have to ask little Lorenzo to move as he seems glued to your mothers dressends.

You could also try to mingle with the Merchants Guild, or even sit with the Generals of the King’s Army.
