~

The serene blue of the early dawn greets you and Marissa upon emerging from the sticky mess left behind in your delving tanks.

You both pull yourselves up and towel off whatever you can from your skin.

Marissa lets out a weary sigh. “Not much time to sleep before morning.”

“You’re going to have to get used to that with inner realm delves.” You head for the hall. “Try to get some sleep, but remember, you still have your duties.” You call out behind you.
Ellie rushes to you in the hall. Quite unusual for her to be up at this time.

“She’s been waiting for you.” She announces in quiet distress and points downstairs. “She came last night and I told her that you weren’t here, but she –insisted- on waiting.” Ellie finishes in a huff.

Your apprentice neglected to inform you of the most important fact.

“Who’s waiting?” You cross your arms impatiently.

Her eyes widen. “Carmina. She’s been sitting there on the sidewalk for hours. So weird.” She finishes with a long yawn.

Not at all what you want to deal with after a tiring rescue mission, but the fact that she insisted on waiting piques your interest. Plus, not going out to at least send her away in person would likely bring more trouble.

“Tell her to wait a little longer. I’m not standing around with all this blood on me for longer than I have to.” You walk past your apprentice without another word.
After an unfortunately short bath, you quickly throw on some clothes, wrap your extensive hair up the best you can, and head outside.

The bright sun peaking over the horizon fills your squinting eyes, but they soon settle on the olive-skinned girl patiently waiting just off your property.

Carmina turns at the sound of you approaching at is absolutely stunned at what she sees walking toward her. You stand there for a few moments, waiting for her to get over her surprise.

With eyes filled with pure awe, she finally manages to find her words. “Sophia! Your hair! Your eyes!” She grabs your hand. “Your skin! They’re gorgeous, and they all match together so well! I’m envious.” She says without a hint of envy in her voice.

Come to think of it, Carmina was never an overt threat. Her compliments certainly sit well with you, at the very least.

You note that her once glossy and long hair has been practically reduced to a bowl cut. The whole thing has the effect of making her look even younger.

“I’m not the only that changed my hairstyle it seems.” You comment, staring at the top of her head.

She blushes lightly and laughs. “I’ve always wanted to try having it this short at least once in my life.” She quickly shakes her head after enjoying your compliment. “I’m sorry for getting us stuck in pleasantries.” Her face takes on a more serious look. “The reason I came to visit was to ask you an important question.”

You tense up, imperceptibly. Questions can be dangerous things.

You calmly nod for her to continue.

“The last time you saw Manolo, before he…passed, did he, mention anything about me or the Order?” She presses forward slightly. “Anything at all?”

Hmm, the last thing you remember was him shouting some rather harsh, albeit justified curses at you. But before that, he did mention something about finding something valuable. Is that what this girl is after? Is that something you want to tell her?

>Tell her he didn't say anything about that.

Since nothing came up from his words, and you didn’t really care to look into his work at the time, you had almost all but forgotten about his final few words. So as it is, the worst thing you can envision from telling her the truth would be the resurfacing of something potentially intriguing.

“He did mention finding something precious.” You look up in thought. “But given the obsession he had about me, those may illegitimate words, said only to catch my interest.”

Carmina gives your casually uttered words heavy consideration. “Whatever it was...” She finally speaks up. “Manolo found it more important than the Order.”

Very strange that she felt compelled to resolve this matter only now. She’s always known where you were, why is this suddenly so imperative?

She returns your heavy stare. “You’re much stronger than you were when you took down that summoned creature. Fortune has been very kind to you recently.”

You’ve never been one to give matters of luck much thought, but what you accomplished was mainly through your own ingenuity.

“I can’t say fortune had much to do with it.” You reply honestly.

She giggles merrily. “Is that so? Maybe she’s only on my side?”

>>40395734

The morning sun finally breaking free of the horizon and illuminating the city catches a quick glance from the both of you.

“I’m so excited about tomorrow’s festival, it feels like time has begun to slow down.” Carmina closes her eyes and allows the warm light wash over her face. “I’m glad that I get to go before I have to leave.”

“Is that really all you waited so long for to say?” You turn away from the overpowering light.

She smiles, still facing toward the sun. “I would’ve waited longer...” She finally pulls away to look into your eyes. “But I couldn’t have waited forever.”

You’re not sure if your answer actually sowed any seeds for the future, but if it did then all there is, is to wait.

She gives you a polite bow. “I’ve taken up too much of your time. I’ll be going now.” She finishes with a brilliant smile.

Perhaps it’s time to end this conversation, maybe catch a few hours of sleep? The young Occultist stands before you expectantly. Who knows under what circumstances you two will next meet?

You’re not done with her just yet.

“This was a rather congenial exchange, but that’s to be expected from friends, isn’t it?” You ask politely.

“Of course!” Carmina answers swiftly and self-assuredly.

You press on. “I know it’s impolite to ask, but what exactly makes us friends. We’ve spoken only a few times.

She smiles politely at you. “How many times exactly do two people need to speak to be considered friends?”

Deflecting the answer, and without skipping a single beat.

“There are other matters to be taken into consideration, like-“

“I’ve forgiven you for what you did to Manolo because you were in the right to do so. It’s sad to know that you were merely pretending that time we drank cocoa together.” She shakes her head, disappointed.

Seems that your words caught up to you, you really ought to watch them more carefully going into the future.

“To be perfectly honest, I hardly knew who you were at the time, so I was just being careful. For that, I truly apologize.” You hang your head down slightly.

Hopefully a fabricated apology will patch things up. No sense in having this girl as your enemy, if you don’t have to.

“Oh! Oh no, it was me that was being unfair.” She waves her hands frantically. “Umm are you going to festival too? Maybe I’ll see you there?”

Easy, perhaps a little too easy.

[1/2]
>>
>>40396538

You haven’t actually considered whether or not you’ll go, but you’ll likely at the very least stop by to see if all the fuss has been exaggerated or not.

“I’m still thinking about it.” You reply honestly. “But you’re rather dead set on going, do you have any plans?”

“Plans?!” She repeats excitedly. “There’s games to play, I heard that there’s going to be an animal exhibit, there’s going to merchants from everywhere selling fancy things, and above else, there’s endless free food!” She shakes her head in disbelief. “Imagine in this world, free food.”

Just like Izu, another excited kid.

Carmina looks back suddenly, as if something caught her ear. “Oh, I spent too much time messing around again.” She starts to run off but stops to give you a wave. “Until next time! Fortune smile upon us!”

She’s gone from sight a few moments later.

You head back inside, and retire immediately to your room. Sleep calls out to you after updating your journal, but you turn to retrieve your cloak first.

You’re doubtful that you’ve learned enough on this delve to invoke the cloaks power, but its sudden voice is a pleasant surprise to you.

“Power beckons to those who seize it, control it.”

That’s exactly what you intend to do. You think very carefully about how you channel your new knowledge this time.

>>40396857
>>

Yeah isn't that her delving the person, it does require an incantation iirc. She's just really bad at it, so it's a side effect.
>>
>>40396886
No? I'm pretty certain it's teleportation.
>>
>>40396906
It's delving. It requires a modified delve incantation and sends them to the other world. Vicki is bad at it so she sometimes misses all of the person she's moving.
>>
>>40396931
Do you have any proof of this? I was pretty sure you needed a pool of blood to delve.
>>
>>40396954
1. Sophia said it was a modified chant when she heard it
2. Auri said it was in fact delve absed
3. you don't actually need a pool of blood to delve, water can be used instead. Theoretically the better the medium the more effectively you can delve. A medium of air would be shitty, but since it's a baleful teleport it doesn't matter to the caster what damage you take.
>>
>>40396857

For some reason that made me wonder if we could seal a specific part of a person, finger or an arm so it stops receiving any blood or signals. For that mater just sealing an artery might be the fastest way to take care of any issues we have with people.
>>
>>40397000
ok ty
We should figure out how to do it then, because it is mad cool.
>>
>>40396727

Teleportation as the person you are will never come under your mastery through natural means. So if this is the only way you can improve at it, then the choice is certain.

The cloak dutifully obeys, and soon your mind is filled with borrowed visions. The ego fluidity required to increase the distance of teleportation is immense, but instead the necessary mode of thought is implanted in your mind. It’ll never be yours, but it will always be able to be called upon. You’ll be able to cover longer distances, and teleport short distances in a direction that you’re not facing.

At first you think that most of the unfortunate after effects of using the cloak have finally left, but you soon realize that Izu is cradling your head. The young boy channels his pale flames into you, this time only a few droplets of blood escape your nose.

~

The sun is already well into its descent downwards when you pull yourself out of bed. You only figure this out when you remove the make-shift curtains which blackened your room to a near perfect sleeping environment.

Izu’s way of making sure you got decent sleep, it seems.

You arrive downstairs to find a groggy Marissa slowly making her way through the first meal of her day.

Her bleary eyes and disheveled a rare sight from her usually perfectly kempt self, but she does light up significantly when Izu enters the room.

[1/2]
>>
>>40397597

He completely ignores your apprentice reaching out for him and then tugs on your sleeve for your attention. Rather unnecessarily, because you were already looking at him.

“Matthias stopped by this morning.” He informs you while going off a mental check list. “He said to make fun of you for letting work get to you.”

The one time you sleep in, the one time and of course he shows up.

The boy continues. “He also said to tell you that Aya wants you to come with them to the festival tomorrow.”

“Anything else?” You ask.

He thinks for a moment with his hand on his chin. “Nope!”

Well, at least you didn’t miss anything really important.

He tugs on your sleeve once again.

You sigh quietly “I’m still looking at you, Izu.”

He knows…

“I know.” He grins and continues. “I want to practice a new pyromancy technique I learned today. Will you help me?”

You can’t say that you’re not interested in seeing how his unique flame is developing, but you’ve been wanting test out your new teleportation skills, in case you ever have to use them in an emergency. Given the short amount of daylight left in the day, it’s probably either attending to his skills, or your own.

>>40398398
Not this much of one.
>>
>>40398370
She's a woman who went through a changing event and saw the potential of what she could make life into. And has been gaining power to do so since.

Now if you're asking what the event was that sent her down this path then we'll have to ask her. But honestly it I don't think it's something that serious like ours is, more of she encountered something that changed her mentally rather than something ACTUALLY happening to her. Everything since then as been all her.
>>
>>40398398
Nope, she was a delver like us, stole something in a delve and nearly got killed doing it, probably murdered a merchant we knew, and took over the market.
>>
>>40398450

>>
>>40398462

>>

She can do magic. Just not delve. She is the one who executed the occultist hunter who was on her turf.

But she never would have needed to delve in the first place!

You’re relatively confident in your own abilities, when have they ever really failed you in the past?

“Alright.” You pull your sleeve out of Izu’s grasp. “Let’s go see what you’ve learned.”

His emerald eyes beam at you and he leads by the hand to the backyard, where you find a single bucket covered in loose paper in the center of the yard.

Izu runs over to it and adjusts it to his liking. “I was trying to practice on my own, but it’s not the same.” He rushes back over to you. “Okay! Try to hit that bucket with your flame?”

An easy task, but you’re guessing that there’s more to it than you destroying one of your buckets.

“Right now?” You lean toward him and ask.

“Right now!” He yells excitedly.

You raise your right arm and feel the yearning urge of your flames wanting to reach their target. Without another thought, you unleash them, and the race to the bucket like a bolt of lightning.

The expected large plume of smoke rises from the target, but most unexpectedly is that the bucket and even the delicate paper are completely unscathed.

“It worked!” He jumps in glee. “It’s a shield like Aya showed us, but I learned how to put it on other things.” He explains to you, happiness clear on his face.

“We’re doing it again.” You state simply and turn back toward the bucket.

Izu smiles knowingly and then returns to his position next to you.

This time before releasing the flame, you hold onto it for a bit longer, antagonizing it, letting it imagine it tearing apart its mark, but still holding it back.

This time it shoots out even faster, its shape more wild, you can feel its raw heat more now than you have in a long time.

Another plume of smoke. This time most of the paper is singed, but some remains intact. His new skill is quite impressive, but you’re not done yet.

“One more time.” You utter with cold anger, eyes transfixed on a simple bucket.

This time, you feel the skin on your hand burning, but it doesn’t quite feel like it’s from heat. You antagonize your flame, over and over again, until you barely keep it from exploding in your hand.
With a howling rush, dark blue flames escape from your hand, dripping caustic liquid onto the ground. The flame barrier protecting the bucket breaks with an audible shattering, and soon the entirety of the metal and much of the ground beneath eaten away.

“Whoa!” Izu rushes up the still sizzling ground. “That was so cool!”

The viscous fluid continues to eat away at the ground, showing no sign of stopping soon.

“Want to keep practicing?!” Izu turns to you, emerald eyes filled with awe.

He already knows the answer.

She never did delve. Had people do it for her.

>>40398869
WOOOHOOO learned some new Firebolt shit. Best to practice with our only method of damage.
>>
>>40398890
Anon that isn't fire. That's plasma.

That's pretty fucking cool. We need to give our Fire some more attention.

Okay, that's where I'm going to end it for tonight. Very slow start, but I think this thread ended up with the most discussion we've ever had, so I want to thank everyone that played! If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to post them in the thread and I will do my best to respond to them.

ALSO, there will be no thread this weekend, because I will be quite busy. But expect an extended one, perhaps even this upcoming Tuesday to make up for it.

I want to wish everyone a good day/night, and hope to see you again next time!

You misread what I posted in the original post. I mistakenly thought that she was a delver before whatever fucked her up to the point of having bones literally poking out of her body, and that that happened in the delve, and was why she is afraid of delving. Apparently not, but everything else I said remains true.

Anon, plasma doesn't survive in atmosphere like the vidoegames say it does. Nor does Plasma "drip"
>>
>>40398911
So will we be seeing Grivermillion again soon?
>>
>>40398917
Sounds like acid.
>>
>>40398911
Was that plasma or napalm?

>>40398917
Good point asking auri about it.

>>40398912
She doesn't delve or use magic, she has Vicki for magic and sniper for troublemakers.
>>
>>40398938
Or just a really hot, vicious, and cohesive flame.

Closer to Napalm. Though of pure fire instead of having a liquid base.
>>
>>40398917
Plasma does drip actually.
>>
>>40398499
She kneecaped that guy.
>>
>>40398966
No she didn't see>>40398686 she pointed and did not cause the kneecap blow out. She has a sniper on retainer.
>>
>>40398932
That's what he's planning, but the future, as always, is uncertain.
>>40398945
Napalm is fundamentally sticky acid, so just about that.

Educate yourself. Closer to gas than liquid. basically electrocuted gas.
>>
>>40398945
She has something off about her though, explain how she went from bones poking out of her body to completely unharmed. I suspect that she obtained some relic that gives her a regen ability and a charisma boost, or limited mind control, or something.
>>
Ok, I'm seeing a lot of argument here so as a person who is smarter than all of you I'll just weigh in.

Ali has another associate aside from Vicki that we haven't seen yet, and he is mean and has a gun and waits for Ali to make a finger gun at people and then shoots where she points.
>>
>>40398984
Sticky acid made of pure flame. pretty awesome. Hype to try it out in combat.

How long does it take to charge up?
>>
>>40398986
I am educated. What do you think happens when the gas being electrified is significantly denser than air? Think a little.
>>
>>40399009
bait

Not even good bait.

Your right but you're obviously a fucking cunt.
>>
>>40399012
Depends on your state of mind, but at it's slowest it only takes several seconds.
>>
>>40399023
It rapidly expands and dissipates as it naturally does.

Plasma is not a cohesive substance when surrounded by non ionized gasses.
>>
Try to recall that we made it with magic.
>>
>>40398911
Thanks for running, Auri!

Closest you'll find to plasma "dripping" but this is plasma being generated and then pulled down by a circular magnet. Once it hits the surface of whatever it is that is protecting this guys magnet it dissipates being quickly replaced by new plasma.

tl dr: plasma is really only affected by magnet fields.
>>
>>40399111
or magic fields.
>>
>>40398911
thx 4 runin budi gud thred

There's always magic.
>>

You're also very welcome!

Seems like it's time to step out. All the speculation in the thread brought a huge smile to my face, so I thank you all for that.

Until next time!
