The cat spirit draws a mass of his minions away from one of the gates, the band assembling around him. He stalks towards the melee, but as he draws near he stops and perks up his head. He stays still for what seems like several minutes before bounding upwards, onto the lip of the volcano. He pauses for only a moment before bounding downward, vanishing beyond the rim of the volcano. You've little idea where he's going, but presumably he's mounting an offensive.

You draw yourself up to your full height and straighten your clothes, adopting a stiff posture. Swiftly jerking your arms upwards, the stone around you begins to stir. A hand shoots from the ground by your foot, and a head surges from the stone near-by. A dozen figures, and then a dozen more. The ground is teeming with the laborious movements of a hundred artificial men, armed with weapons and garbed in armor both of stone. They are faceless, tools to be used for your own purposes. Much like the minions you're sending them to fight, you imagine.

Around you they organize themselves into tight ranks, five rows deep and ten across. Six battalions, for a total of three hundred soldiers ready to fight and die for the cause. It's not nearly as taxing an effort as you'd expect, the stone here is soft and of surprisingly good quality. Not to mention the gauntlet makes it far easier to control the stone than it would be otherwise.

The rotting vultures who've been circling the mouth of the volcano have taken note of your efforts and as the last of your soldiers fall into line they swoop in, thinking to challenge your troops when they're still unprepared. They're met with a veritable wall of spears, impaling themselves on the points of your troop's weapons. Many are reduced to dust in an instant, practically exploding upon contact, but others are merely left impaled and flailing. Their strategy seems to begin and end with heaping their corpses upon your soldier's weapons until they can eventually attack the constructs themselves, but with each new wave of monsters crashing against your ranks you simply draw new weapons from the endless fields of rock and magma surrounding you.

While the rival spirit's minions throw themselves into the spears of your troops you send two battalions forwards to join the melee. They march with surprising grace across the uneven terrain, and are unperturbed by the heat and the choking smoke. A pack of the vultures breaks off to attack your advancing soldiers, but you pepper them with sharpened lengths of stone and manage to stall their attack. Many are sent spiraling into the lava below.

Unfortunately, their attacks do grow tiresome. Your soldiers are more than capable of holding their own but the bird creatures are slowly wearing down their numbers. You need something to draw their attention. Something massive.

You've got just the thing.

Hurling your senses outwards you draw upon the magma below and the rock above, the very earth itself shaking as the creature you desire takes forms. First comes an arm, bursting molten and incoherent from beneath the stone islands which fill the mouth of the volcano. As it rises further and further skywards the stone clings to it, melding against the golem's form. The hand seizes upon the lip of the volcano and hauls the rest of its body upwards. A brutish head, shoulders, and a second arm. It brings down a hand on the melee, destroying a dozen vultures with nothing more than a clumsy gesture.

The massive war machine struggles to haul itself fully from the lake of molten rock, but does it truly need to? It will serve you better if it merely slides across the surface of the magma lake, engulfing all it comes across. You shoot a hand upwards, the golemn mimicking your motion. A jet of boiling stone and metal shoots forth, engulfing a swathe of the circling bird creatures. Their cries fill the air even as they plunge to their death, their bodies turning to dust before they can even hit the ground.

With your legions free you send them forward, keeping only two in reserve. In part so that they might defend you and in part to send reinforcements to shore up a flank should your troops be attacked from the sides or from the rear. Two hundred men of stone charge into the melee, driving their spears a dozen times over into every enemy they come across. The rival spirit's minions, who had been getting the better of Mahana's own minions, are attacked from all sides. They're surrounded, even as their reinforcements are cut off by the unyielding assault of your golem.

You've drawn the attention of the Disciple. You can feel him. He's a strange, unnatural presence marching across the battlefield towards you. He swings his scythe, and four of your soldiers are reduced to mud. He swings again, and three more fall. He is a force of nature, inexorable in his determination to see your demise. You bring down the fist of your golem but he slides forward, evading the attack. You send a massed charge of spears to impale him against the rock, but he dances past.

From deep within your trance, a trance you weren't even wholly aware you'd slipped into, a rage boils up. A seething fury. A furious anger. He thinks to challenge you. You! This creature, who sold his freedom to a power greater than himself, this creature unable to stand on his own, seeks to end you. Who does he think he is?

As he closes the distance you channel Earth magic. The island he stands on crumbles under your onslaught. He thinks to leap away at the last moment, but a block of stone twice the size of his head sails through the air and clocks him firmly in the jaw. Robbed of his momentum he falls into the molten rock below, dissolving into the mixture of stone and metal. Some distant part of you is pleased. You showed him what his proper place was in this world.

You're robbed of that pleasure when a creature comes roaring from the liquid fire surging under your feet. A humanoid figure composed of black stone, with a fire raging in his hollow chest cavity. He's not far from you, little more than ten strides. You have two battalions of stone warriors at your beck and call, but you're uncertain how effective they'll be against this creature.

The general strategy seems to be transmute a handful of soldiers into elites and then send in the mooks to keep him busy. Since the mooks are technically your allies, I'll let you both direct them and take a personal action in the same round.

Using an item like the amulet is a "full action" for all intents and purposes. So you can move and the use the amulet or move and attack, but you can't attack and use the amulet in the same round of combat. You can do it during defensive rounds though.

Quick runoff vote while I start writing.

It was a Regular Failure turned into a regular Success. We're a vatis that's what we do. and we only spent 6 vys. That's really not that much. We just spent a little extra to further enhance our soldiers.

While we wait: What do we want from the spirit? I’m sure we could get something cool if we have good ideas.

The most useful thing imho would be to get the spirit to consider us as a full ally instead of just as an asset that he wants to extract as much advantage from as possible. If we manage this, we wouldn’t need to be quite as much on our toes when dealing with the spirit in the future + whatever benefits having an actually friendly spirit might bring.
>>
>>40348617
Knowledge of runes seems to be our normal choice, we might be able to get some interesting artifacts from him, but I'm not sure about that.

>>40348684
Just doing stuff for him makes us a good asset. But the divide between spirits and (semi-)mortals is even bigger than that between Samjan and Degenerates, I fear outside of making a deal to have spirits explicitly change the views on us it will be very hard to breach that divide.

Knowledge is always a decent option but at this point I’d rather take some other knowledge than runes. Something to give us more bonuses in the elements or something of that sort. I know Grandmaster is the highest level, but there is still quite a bit of difference in the bonuses Grandmasters of the same element get for different activities. I’m sure we could get a bigger bonus for water manipulation, for example.

I serously doubt it. That's Miks personality.

But if people do want to be Discipled we need to talk to him about the Entity in our head. Both the risks it may pose and seeing if he maybe has another way to get rid of it.

But anger and arrogance are the usual stuff the Entity makes us feel.

>>>Disciples (and maybe a way to have some of his power without all the strings attached)
On top of what ever we agree on us we can ask about this.
>>
You send forth a battalion of soldiers to harass the disciple and keep him busy. Your stone puppets close with the Disciple, but as their spears lash out at the creature it ducks low and sweeps out its scythe in a broad arc. Six of your soldiers are bisected in a single motion, but more step forward to fill in the ranks. The Disciple seems to move as water, dancing between blades and lashing out with his scythe to reduce your force half a dozen at a time, but even if he's slaughtering your troops wholesale you're still forcing him to devote his whole attention to dodging their attacks.

Which allows you to dedicate your attention to a handful of stone figures nearest you. Channeling vys you convert them slowly, inch by inch, into gleaming figures wrought from steel rather than black rock. You arm them with heavy iron hammers, suitable for smashing apart stone and caving in skulls, and give them tower shields nearly as tall as they are. Hopefully they'll fair a little better against that scythe of his.

You send these new elites forward to join with the melee. The Disciple, twisting his body unnaturally between two of your soldiers and lashing out with that long scythe of his, is caught off balance when rather than carving through stone the head of the scythe embeds itself in one of the elite's shields. He stumbles, allowing one of your other elites to swing down its mace. It smashes into the creature's ribs, a jet of flame shooting out of his now caved in rib cage and washing over the offending soldier. The metal turns a glowing red, the head of its weapon sloughing off, but the soldier itself still seems capable of fighting on.

Dude. We're a freaking Samja, and we still have issues sometimes with our companions, maybe due to our insanity. One battle isn't suddenly going to cause a complete face heel turn. You're asking the cat to stop being racist. It's stupid. We have to prune that out of him one step at a time. It's not something you ask for as a reward.
>>
The Disciple distances itself, prying its scythe from the shield of your elite with little difficulty. He hovers near the edge of your soldiers, leaping gracefully across the stone islands which cover the surface of the lava lake. Occasionally he'll close and lash out at a few of the stone golems, but he avoids the sturdier elites. Annoyed with his continued evasiveness, an idea occurs to you. The battlefield is littered with the discarded weapons and piles of rubble that mark your fallen soldiers, so why don't you simply recreate one of them in the Disciple's path?

The disciple twist sharply on one foot, turning towards you. The creature sets off at a dead run, fire curling up around the floating orb that sits between the massive pair of horns on his head. He leaps, to cross the gab between one island and the next, but unfortunately for him the island he's aiming for happens to have one of your defeated soldier's remains sitting near by. Releasing a burst of vys, the soldier knits its torso back together, a single arm sprouting from its shoulder to pick up its spear. You have the golem brace to receive the leaping Disciple, and are pleased when the Disciple impales itself on the end of the soldier's spear with its own momentum.

Cracks spiderweb across its surface from the point of impact, the Disciple momentarily stalled. However, with a sharp twist of its upper body the Disciple manages to snap the spear off where it pierces his torso. Undeterred the creature resumes its charge, aiming to put an end to you and your soldiers by extension. You have other plans.

As the Disciple leaps towards you, raising its scythe into the air to cleave you in half, you attempt to seize hold of its limbs using the abilities afforded to you by the gauntlet. Something goes horribly wrong. Pain lances through your abdomen as a portion of your reserves are forcefully ripped away.

The Cat Spirit may be able to remove the Entity. All our current plans to deal with it were just what Varvar thought up at a moment’s notice for how we as a mortal might deal with it. The spirit might now some more methods, or help us with some of the methods Varvar proposed.
>>
Something smashes against your chest, you hear your bones crack and the air rush from your lungs. You're abruptly snapped out of your trance by the impact, sent flying backwards through the air. This has the unfortunate effect of causing your stone and metal puppets to collapse, their strings cut. Even the massive magma and stone golem you crafted has been reduced to his constituent parts, though this has had the added benefit of killing the vast majority of the rival spirit's minions which were engaged in the melee.

You're more concerned with stone the size of your head which has just caved in the right side of your chest. The disciple is standing not six feet from you, scythe in hand. He's not looking so hot, considering the number of chunks missing and cracks spreading across his torso, but he's doing a lot better than you are right now.

ROOOOLL ME 3d10+10 (+6 from Gauntlet, +2 from Environment, +2 from circumstance) vs DC 28 (Base 20, +8 dodge bonus) to hit him with the stone boulder. There's no need to roll for healing yourself, at your level healing a few broken bones and crushed organs is pretty simple.

You hurl the boulder currently pinning your chest to the ground back at the Disciple, but in your panic you throw it wide. It doesn't even come close to hitting and the Disciple doesn't bother dodging. He just starts walking towards you with slow, deliberate strides. As he draws near he raises his scythe into the air, preparing to bury the tip in your skull, and left with few options you release a burst of vys.

The boulder you hurled past him comes sailing back, slamming into the Disciple's right shoulder. He spins sharply, his right arm smashed to pieces and his scythe hurled through the air, out of his hands. You take your chance, pressing a hand to your chest and releasing a burst of Water magic. Almost immediately your chest pops outward, bones asserting themselves into their rightful positions.

Leaping lightly to your feet you pluck up a discarded spear from where it sits on the ground. The Disciple has likewise picked himself up, but where as you're armed he's left with naught but his own two hands to fight you with, and whatever magic he's capable of. Considering you've only seen him cast a simple fire spell this entire time you doubt he's a particularly capable Vatis.

You focus for a moment, leeching the amulet of vys. One benefit of having it pressed against your chest, you don't need to do anything to drain from it. Just cast the spell. You feel the power stored with in fill you, suffuse you, and in an instant the weariness you'd felt vanishes.

Dropping into a defensive stance you move yourself to stand between the Disciple and his scythe, which has landed with its blade embedded in the rock a dozen or so feet behind you. The Disciple sees what you're doing and jerks left, you lash out but find that it was a misdirection. Acting on instinct you grab hold of the spear's butt and shove it forward, feeling the stone connect with the Disciple's horned head.

The Disciple flips over, smashing the back of its head into the stone floor. At first you're simply surprised, you hadn't even really intended to do that. However, you're not one to pass on an opportunity when it's presented. Twirling your spear briefly you grab hold of it with one hand, raising it high into the air before driving it forward almost like a javelin. You aim for the floating orb which sits between the Disciples horns, and are pleased with the tip of the spear buries itself in the deceptively soft substance.

The fire flickers out inside the Disciple's chest, and it lays still. You simply stand there for a moment, staring at the corpse. After a time you brace your foot against the orb and twist the haft of the spear, jerking the tip out of the soft material without much trouble. Odd, that. It seems to be the same consistency as wet clay.

You've won. You didn't even really intend to win, just keep it away from its weapon, but you've done it. The orb starts ti dissolve, and with surprising rapidity both the Disciple's corpse and the orb which seemed to sustain the creature are reduced to a fine dust, quickly swept away by the winds which whip across the volcanic lake.

Turning your attention to the distant battlefield you find that the melee seems to have been resolved. Most of the smaller portals have joined into one massive gateway into a separate world. A world of marble floors, elegant pillars, relaxing water falls, and welcoming braziers. You much prefer the cat spirit's aesthetic sense to that of the native spirit who's realm you've invaded. Volcanic mountains and blighted ash waste? Not exactly what you'd call welcoming.

For the most part the Cat spirits minions seem idle, though more continue to stream from the portal. Some have separated off to proceed down the slope of the mountain. Occasionally a pack of desiccated bird creatures will swoop out of the sky to make a break for the portal but most of them have vanished, presumably pulled away to deal with battles elsewhere. You've won yourself a moment's respite.

You take a moment just to catch your breath, but you've still got work to do. Once you feel yourself recovered from the fight you start to walk across the battlefield, towards the portal. Each step you take brings ten of your soldiers back to life. They jerk into motion, grabbing their weapons and pushing themselves to their feet. You discard the spear you wield as you get close to the scythe, reaching out and grabbing it by the handle. A swift jerk frees It from the stone.

The weight is odd, you've never used a scythe before. Neither to harvest wheat nor as a weapon. It seems terribly unwieldy, a testament to the Disciples skill that he was swinging it around so easily. You're not wholly sure what it does, and you're not entirely sure if now is a good time to test it, but it's better than what you'd been using. You're about to continue on towards the portal, but something odd catches your eye.

Where as once you'd worn only a gauntlet, now you find that you've sprouted a vambrace seemingly from nowhere. The stone on the gauntlet has likewise grown to full enclose your hand, rather than merely covering the top of your arm. From the elbow down your arm is encased in stone, with an articulated joint at the wrist. You're concerned, but the sounds of screeching ringing out from above demand your attention. You've work to do and right now you need the gauntlet to do it.

By the time you've managed to scale the rim of the volcano to stand on the strangely even lip, you've got an army of a hundred and sixty three stone soldiers arrayed around you. You lost nearly half your force in the melee, but you've still got more than enough soldiers left to make a difference. Channeling magic, you start to fortify your position. First things first, you call magma from the lake below and use it to create a large platform on which your soldiers can stand. That done you erode the face of the volcano's slope, causing a land slide.

As the stone tumbles away it reveals a sheer, perfectly smooth surface. Not really a challenge for flying creatures to surpass, but any land based minions the rival spirit has will hopefully have issue reaching your position. That done you raise a barricade of stone in front of the portal, a hood covering the side which faces the volcano. That means the only way for the flying creatures to reach the portal will be to fly through what you plan to be the field of fire for your siege engines.

On two of the larger islands you put that engineering knowledge your Master hammered repeatedly into your head so many years ago to good use, by erecting two crude trebuchets made of stone. They probably won't have much range, but they'll serve for your purposes. You send forty of your stone soldiers to man the siege engines, twenty on each one. Then on the ridge you've created you start to construct ballistae, using a stone frame work with metal arms and metal strings. Not the best material, but it will serve.

You test it by drawing back the basket as far as you can manage using your significant magical power and loading it with a round stone. As you cut the flow of vys the stone shoots forward, nailing a direct hit against one of the bird creatures filling the air. It's knocked into the air, wings shattered, and crashes somewhere off in the distance. Most likely disabled, rather than dead. They'll do. You construct nineteen more for good measure, ten on each side.

Finally satisfied with your fortifications you walk to the edge of the cliff face and peer out over the spirit's strange red realm. You see a figure loping across the battlefield. He towers above everything, twenty feet tall at least. His flesh is made of stone, and where he walks the ground shifts to accommodate him. Hovering where his head ought to be is a glass ball wreathed in blue fire.

You assume that's the creature with the mirror for a face you saw in the real world. He seems to be advancing on the Cat spirit, who's currently occupied battling a giant horned feline creature. It has the body of a lion, six horns which look like those of an antelope, and a face of a creature you can't quite pin. Spines protrude from its back, and its entire form is wreathed in fire.

The Cat Spirit seems to be getting the best of it, judging by the massive gash opened up in the feline minion's throat and the fact it's missing its right eye. However, the cat spirit isn't exactly looking great either. He's been cut across the side and some sort of semi-ethereal substance pours from the wound.

More immediately concerning in your mind is the force approaching the mountain. At its head is a woman dressed similarly to the last disciple, before you submerged him in magma for his trouble. Flanking her on either side are large, muscular figures. You count eighteen in all. They wield glowing swords which remind you of that weapon you bought in the village outside the Temple to Pani, the whip blade.

Upgrading my idea: Attack (via hidden+manipulate) the spirit with an invisible metal spear. With hidden and invisible it should be impossible to defend against.

on the other hand, that a lot of unwanted attention should we fail.

I'm just going to toss this out, but we should definitely be utilizing leech against the disciples if possible. Especially that woman.

Geek the mage first.

IT IS TIME FOR ACTION
>>
>>40353028
Figure we could kind of do them all.

Bombard them with rockslides from a distance and once they move into range unleash the seige engines. And since neither of those is all the complex of a task we could try and contact the cat at the same time.
>>
>>40353115
Well obviously we should do all of them.
>>
Wait, what am I saying writin' for? I need rolls.

Let's see here... Roll 3d10+24 (+4 from positioning, +4 from fortification, +2 from Environment, +6 from the Gauntlet, +2 from Expert Metal, +2 from SMUT, +4 from Cat's assistance) vs DC 40 (Base 20, +8 from GM Earth Vatis, +6 from Born in the Stone, +4 from Equipment, +2 from Mirror Face's assistance)

For the record, you'll be bombarding them with the siege engines, organizing with the cat, and causing rock slides.
>>
Rolled 5, 5, 5 + 24 = 39 (3d10 + 24)

Because Mik had sex with that human woman he has now +2 to rolls against female humans, and the main disciple is a woman.
Players want to have sex with dragons and spirits so that we get a bonus against them as well.
>>
>>40353184
So lads, by now I hope you've all noticed that whole "last disciple is a grandmaster." Thing. Ya'know, over here:

>vs DC 40 (Base 20, +8 from GM Earth Vatis, +6 from Born in the Stone, +4 from Equipment, +2 from Mirror Face's assistance)

>+8 from GM Earth Vatis

Don't panic. Disciples die when their patron spirit dies. Just geek the spirit, and we won't even have to worry about the disciple.
>>
>>40353444
Still think we could take him anyway. Gauntlet gives basically GM tier anyway. And we have GM healing.

>>40353399

MEDITATE ON LIGHTNING ATTACK WHEN
>>
>>40353475
I don't think we can beat him by using earth magic even with the gauntlet
>>
>>40353521
We have better things to meditate on right now.

Like the gauntlet and the fact that it's now not a gauntlet.
>>
>>40353521
We really should meditate on Vys and Create first.
>>
>>40353548
We'd have to use the Glove to counter his magic and use Fire or Water to stop him. Maybe freeze his ass to Absolute Zero
>>
are we going to get a second thread today

yes

I still wish we did laser, since we're so good at fire.

NO REST UNTIL WE HAVE UTTERLY DEFEATED THIS DISGUSTING EXCUSE FOR A SPIRIT
>>
>>40353733
There aren't any "people" in the classical sense near-by. Everything you've killed has dissolved to dust, and the cat spirit's minions are skeletons covered in fire.
>>
>>40353756
Lava counts as blood, let's go with that.
>>
>>40353756
Are the cats minions made out of vys? we could drain them for extra vys with the cats permission without the possibility of retaliation.
>>
>>40353778
Or we can not be completely retarded.
>>
>>40353803

>>
>>40353803
Different guy
How is that retarted? If he says we can drain them then we do if not we dont
>>
>>40353826
That suggestion is even more retarded than our usual ones.
>>40353838
>try to get cats permission while it's in the middle of a battle with a Spirit
Even if it's a split second for the cat to answer, it'll still be a split second of inattention, and that can cost it the battle.
>>
>>40353882
What the fuck?
It doesn't have to look or say anything just mind talk towards us.
Plus not like he'd have to move soon due to the spirit and the landslid
>>
>>40353882
wasn't that retard really since we're worth more to him alive and powerful than his minions are, unless leeching them would be like leeching him in which case we should leech the enemy's minions
>>
>>40353937
You need to reread what he said, it's like he said potatoes and you say you love tomatos.

And yes, leeching them would be like leeching him. Spirit=their realm
>>
>>40353837
We gotta learn the rune for planet.
>>
>>40353756
Aw, gosh golly.

Wait, do we have anything that just disrupts Vys straight up then? Can we do illusions so that they start attacking each other?
>>
>>40353963
>leeching them would be like leeching him
then we could just get one of the enemies alone and leech him until the spirit runs out or becomes really weak
>>
>>40354000
Sounds like a brilliant plan, let's do just that. While at it let's smash our faces into the nearest enemy until we bleed our corrosive acids on them.
>>
>>40354000
I think the energy gained by leeching worshipers as well as vys infested locations through shrines is invested by the spirit in different things.

I believe both the tiny minions of the cat spirit, the raw strength of the cat spirit as well as the various minions and lieutenant/mini boss monsters and green souled cunts represent a direct investment in harvested spirit energy.
