Ask Septimus exactly what "it" is. Is it a weapon? Does it have a psychic signature? We are not sending Septimus into chaos controlled territory (especially given his borderline heretical actions).

You sigh, shaking your head. "Septimus, I'm working on the Hive situation right now. But there are a bunch of heretics, aliens, and other things lurking down there. We need to figure out how much of a problem this is. Obviously, the Chaos presence under the hive city makes it a serious threat, but is this a source Chaos forces could use without outside assistance? The city has, for all intents and purposes, existed undisturbed for likely thousands of years. Is there something that makes this threat immediate?

I'd say lock him up just to be sure, but that might be stupid. I forget who Septimus is, but I'm assuming he's in the Inquisition, since he's a sanctioned psyker, and mentioned Inquisition business.

Let's get back to murdering chaos guys in the Hive. Send a message to whoever we think Septimus's superior in the Inquisition might be saying that we have doubts about this agent of the Inquisition and ask for another to help out and keep a double secret eye on Septimus and the whole situation.

Yes, I agree.

His "Master" could be the "dead" Inquisitor he officially worked for. Up until now we have had no evidence he has been working with anyone else in the Imperium. It wouldn't be the first time an Inquisitor has feigned death in order to pursue covert activities.

On the other hand, his old Inquisition employer could be a radical, hence the reason for the faked death. Worse, Septimus could have killed the old Inquisitor himself, while under the influence of Chaos, and now seeks to use the remains of his former authority for evil ends.

Can we send an astropathic message to our "friendly" Inquisitor and ask if Septimus is listed as a current agent? Both Septimus and the Inquisitor we worked with were Ordo Xenos so it shouldn't be too hard to find out. In the meantime, we can keep him in a comfortable secure location while we prepare to push on the lower hive again.

However, as I said, the thing is sentient. You remember those fungal zombies? My colleague in the Ordo Xenos looked into them. They were artificial, a weapon created. Furthermore, the basis of the fungi's DNA was based on Ork DNA. The Source was experimenting on the feral orks here, making a weapon of its own. It will never not be a problem for this planet and, if my theory is right, set loose it could reek havoc on the galaxy. I don't have a set time limit because this thing is active and must be destroyed as soon as possible, because I have no idea what it is fully capable of and you have seen the destruction it was wrought even while it was trapped under the planet."

Tanks, men, whatever you need, just ask." You say, Septimus turning back to you and smiling. "Why, thank you Governor... I must say I'm surprised. And here I thought you didn't trust me." He says, bowing. "Well, I must be off then. But thank you again for your help." He says before walking off.
You head down to Frederick's office, still being decorated since he decided to stay on Valencia. The walls are adorned with medals and momentos from past campaigns. You're surprised as you see a few of the many battles Frederick has taken place in. "Ah, Governor, here to share that amasec and here war stories?" He says with a laugh. Frederick's mood seemed to lighten up since he changed his position here to be permanent. You smile but shake your head. "I'm afraid not Frederick, here on business matters." You say, walking up to your friend. "You remember Septimus, that Psyker I told you about? Well, he's found his source thing and it is at the bottom of the hive. He needs to get past the Chaos forces as soon as possible. He's contacted his inquisitor master for Deathwatch support, but he needs to keep trying in the mean time. Therefore, I want you to give him full authority to request men, weapons, vehicles, whatever in his mission." As soon as you give the order, Frederick performs a salute. "Of course sir. I'll begin telling my officers now to spread the information through the ranks." He says, moving over to his desk and typing something into his personal cogitator. "Thank you Frederick, I can always count on you." You say before heading back to your office to get back on that mountain of paper work.

You decide to contact the Ecclesiarchy and see if they can send some support to help in the siege... while also having a few eyes on any possible treachery from Septimus. The ecclesiarchical representative responds soon. "Governor, as you know, we cannot keep men under arms, and we lack an Adeptus Sororitas covenant to send for military support. We can send a few priests to give morale support to the troops, but we cannot engage in the fighting ourselves." You shrug and tell him that is alright.

Well that at least narrows it down to a Heresy era legion instead of a more recent traitor.

I know we are not blessed with much in the way of man portable AT weapons but can we scrap together 25-30 melta guns and form a veteran platoon with the purpose of killing this thing? We could hold the hit squad in reserve and launch an offensive to draw it out then ambush it.
