"Dose ya haves the foods I packeds for yas?"

"Yes, Garush..." You nod, ears flapping lightly, shrugging your new pack further up on your shoulders, thumbs hooked through the straps.

"An' the maps to th' tombs?"

"Yeeeees, Garush..." You whine softly, bouncing from foot to foot, looking over toward the road.

You'd been over the list three times now as the orc fussed over the three of you, all in your new clothes, and each armed with new equipment from Djanna's small hoard. She wore the ruby and gilt-wire broach to fasten her cape, practically beaming to have something so valuable on display. The four of you stood near the northern gate of Dvotysk, ready to depart. After your shopping trip, you'd spent some time discussing your next move, and Garush suggested that someone who could help you could be found in an old tomb to the north. You were leery, but he assured you it was safe. He'd also offered to take you, but you'd refused. "We need to get stronger on our own! If you're around to help us, we'll never get any bigger!"

And now, with the orc fussing over you like a paranoid auntie, you're kind of glad to be setting off again. It had been a week you'd been in the city and you'd been getting restless. No room to run, the smells were all getting boring, and you hadn't been north of the city yet! You practically wagged with anticipation.

"All rights, girls. Are ya's sures-"

You bound forward suddenly and hug him, which catches the old greenskin unaware, finally giving in to a wag. "We'll be fine, stop worrying! Anything that gets in our way-"

"You'll runs, runs fasts, and not looks backs!"

Your tail droops and you nod. "Fiiiine..." He'd made you promise, after all. Still, what uncle Garush didn't know...

The three of you set out, Emma between you in the front and Djanna in the rear, waving over your shoulder at the anxious-looking orc. Soon he - and the city - are out of sight.

You take a moment to look over Djanna. There's a bit more of a spring in her step lately, and you see some tone under her clothes. Your training regimine has been having an impact, it seems, and she's been taking to studying with Garush like a pup fresh meat. You're still worried over her, though; she's still weak, and none of your combat training seems to have quite clicked into place for her.

Kitty, on the other hand, seems to have been learning a few things via observation, if not participation. You caught her one night practicing stances on her own, after she thought you were in bed. You'd swear she'd gone red clear to her tail tips, making excuses about how training the body was just as important as training the mind. You'd let it go, but noticed she'd been present every time after that you'd trained Djanna.

The day passes into afternoon before you move off the road, as the map indicates, heading into the snowfields to where the Tomb of the Wanderer is supposed to be located. Garush hadn't told you anything about it besides "Don'ts be scareds of hers. She's a goods gal, justs a bits of a shocks." The fact he'd been trembling the whole time he said it didn't exactly fill you with confidence. Still, the promise of finding the shrines was enough to move you onward. By nightfall, you stand before the monolithic structure of black stone, a single stairwell, blocked by an unlocked iron gate, all that stands before you and the depths.

Welcome to RE: Kobold Quest

QM Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/lotuseater1031

Ask me Questions: http://ask.fm/Lotus_Eater

Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/u/Lotus_Eater

SYSTEMS:

Rolling: d100, best of three, roll under, degrees of success (roll compared to DC/opponent rolls and the amount by which you succeed/fail will matter). 1/100 are crit successes/fails, and override other rolls. A crit fail and success on the same roll means the remaining die result will be used.

Win/Lose by 10: Slight Success/Failure

10-20: Moderate Success/Failure

Greater than 20: Extreme Success/Failure

Voting/Writing: Ten minutes for voting, 20-40 minutes for writing as needed.

Final Destination: If a vote is tied/contended, I will call for FINAL DESTINATION, and present the most popular options. For those who don't know, you must vote precisely in the form of ">vote" without additional commentary. This extends 4chan's native post delay from one minute to five, and prevents samefagging or vote padding.

Exploration: While I have a general outline of what's going to happen, sometimes there are instances where things are left to chance. In those cases, I'll call for 1d10, and take the first given. Low rolls are beneficial encounters, with the higher you go being more dangerous. A result of 10 can actually be threatening to the character, and should be treated as such.

"Are you ready for this, Djanna? We've been training really hard. There might be something bad down there."

The dragon girl swallows, but nods. "B-bring it on..." She's trying, at least. You nod and lay a hand on her shoulder.

"Remember, if it gets too bad, run back to Garush. Emma and I will be right behind you."

She nods, eyes downcast. You smile, trying to reassure her, before turning back to the gate. You give it a tug and it swings open silently. Huh? That's weird. It looks really old, so why didn't it-

A gust of wind rushes up from the depths, ruffling your fur and hair. It smells of old, cold stone and dust, but also something enticing.

Adventure.

You nod to Emma, who pulls the scarf down away from her mouth and whispers a few words. A small globe of yellow light appears in her mitted hand, and she sets it to circle about her lazily, flitting around like an insect, as the three of you descent into the semi-darkness, you leading with Djanna again taking the rear. The stone is cold under your paws, and Emma's shoes make a bit too much noise for your liking, but so far things seem safe enough. You descend for a hundred feet and come to a semicircular chamber, a large stone crypt dominating the center. Your studies haven't been going as well as Djanna's, but even you can read the inscription on the lid of the vault:

"WANDER NO MORE"

For some reason, you hear Djanna whimper. From above, you hear the slam of metal on stone, and Djanna squeaks, whipping about to look back up the stairwell. "What was that!?"

Emma's ears and tails are rigid. "I don't think we're alone down here..." she whispers.

You motion to the other girls to wait as you move toward the stairs. You feel Emma grab hold of the hem of your coat and you look down at the girl. Her eyes are impassive, but you see them quiver slightly. Her ears are just tilted down enough that you can feel her unease. Djanna, to her credit, is keeping her fear in check - for now. You give Emma a soft pat on the head, turn, and bound up the stairs.

After roughly twice the time it took you to come down without reaching the gate at the top, you start to suspect something may indeed be up. You turn and return to the crypt, the girls huddled together.

"Where have you been!?" Djanna hisses out, grabbing you and pulling you close. "You've been gone a really long time!"

Huh? It didn't feel that long to you. You look to Emma, who nods a confirmation. Okay, now you're all but certain something is going on here.

"Hello?" you call out, a wide-eyed Djanna trying to shush you. You hold up a finger and step away, looking upward... as if that were obviously the direction that everything strange originates from. "Um, my uncle Garush said you could help me?"

"Isss heee wiiiith youuuuuu?"

Djanna yelps and even Emma gives a little squeak as a spectral voice seems to come from nowhere, barely above a whisper.

"Um... no?" You tilt your head, not entirely certain why your friends are acting so scared. There is silence for a long moment before the scraping of stone against stone comes from behind the tomb opposite the stairs. Djanna and Emma practically dive behind you, Emma glaring into the darkness, but hey, kitty, your leg is starting to feel a bit numb. Loosen your grip please?

"Proceeeeeeeeeeeeed..." The voice whispers before falling silent.

You look down at your friends, and shrug, moving for the new door.

You shake your head and Djanna whines. You frown and cross your arms over your chest, legs spread in a wide stance. You try to sound authoritative, but given your age you don't quite have it down. "We're here to meet a lady an' that's what we're gonna do! C'mon, there can't be anything that bad down here!"

"Zombies. Ghouls. Spiders. Bigger spiders."

"Emma, quiet!" You poke the kitty softly and move into the hidden door behind the crypt. The new room brings new scents: old parchment, dust, lamp oil, rotten wood, and rotten flesh. Ahead of you, their back turned, a figure sits at a small table, a book splayed open before them. Long, white hair spills over the back of their chair, an oil lamp barely hanging on to life beside them, casting a flickering light over tall shelves lining the walls and arranged in rows, standing free on either side of the walkway you stand on. You step ahead, Djanna and Emma following along slowly behind, bunched together so closely they may as well be one person. You walk up to the figure, stopping a small distance away and clearing your throat.

"Um... excuse me. We're looking for a lady? Um, Garush said we'd know her when we see her. That's you, right? Because ladies seem to have long hair in the city, and your hair is pretty long."

The figure doesn't move, no reply. You frown. How rude!

"Hey! Hey, I'm talking to you! C'mon, please? My friends are scared and wanna go home. As soon as we get done here, we'll leave, we just need to ask her a few questions."

Still no movement. Still, silence.

You lean in curiously. You don't hear breathing, they aren't moving, and you're pretty sure hair isn't supposed to look quite like that. You reach out softly to lay a hand on their shoulder. "Hey... are you okay?"

They fall out of their chair, landing with a dry rattle on the bare stone. Djanna squeaks loudly behind you as you jump back, eyes wide. You... you killed them! Your heart pounds, panic rising in your throat. You... you didn't mean to! It was an accident! No jury in the land would convict y- wait a second.

You bend down, reaching out toward the body.

"You s-shouldn't." Emma calls out, but something tells you that she's worrying for nothing. You take hold of the hair and brush it back, revealing... a bucket. A bucket on a broom handle, the whole thing set up with what looks like a pillow inside of a robe to give the appearance of human form. You hear a high-pitched tittering fill the air, and the sound of stone on stone from the left and the right. The other oil lamps in the room flare to life suddenly, bathing the room in warm light and revealing racks and shelves of scrolls, books, loose stacks of vellum and parchment, each bearing faded ink in languages you can't read.

"...what is going on?" you mutter, rising up and looking around the room. Emma and Djanna seem to relax a bit in the light, but are still clinging on to one-another's hands. You scratch behind an ear, confusion evident on your face.

You slowly pace about the room, idly shifting books this way and that. You pull one off the shelf and open it, the rotten binding giving way and spilling pages all over the floor. You whimper, look behind and before you, shove the empty cover back on the shelf, and bound down to the other end of the row. Nope. You didn't do nothin'.

Elsewhere, Djanna and Emma look through the collected volumes, looking through various scrolls and volumes. Emma sneezes softly as she holds a scroll bearing illustrations of various alchemical instruments, with herbs and roots she doesn't recognize. Djanna finds a tome with a heavy, strangely shaped lock.

They replace them after a few moments, and everyone reconvene in the central hall between the shelves.

"Did anyone find anything?" you ask innocently. Nope. Definitely innocent. Totally didn't just ruin a book. Nope!

"Nothing but a few old scrolls," Emma mutters, pulling her scarf back up over her nose.

"Same, and a lot of old books," Djanna shrugs. "Nothing that was valuable, at least."

You whine softly and nod. You weren't worried about money at all, but you'd hoped you'd find something... you don't know. Maybe another fighting book scroll thingy. Something.

You turn and look to the exits, one on either side of the small table the makeshift dummy had been seated at. With this room exhausted, and the way back blocked, your options are limited.

You head for the right-hand doorway, your pads falling softly on the dusty ground. Emma's shoes click along behind you, with Djanna's claws scraping the stone softly. Their footfalls seem a bit more confident after the last room, as if they're starting to get used to the strange circumstances. As you walk along the hallway, even Emma's small light seems swallowed by the encroaching darkness.

About midway down the hallway, you feel something shift under your paws and hear a sharp "click". Djanna gasps and dives backward as you jump, pressing your hands and paws to either side of the wall and hanging suspended there by the power of your muscles. The floor gives way, tilting suddenly downward underneath you. Emma screams as she goes tumbling down under the path ahead into darkness. The floor swings back as soon as her tiny form vanishes, the floor righting itself with another click and leaving both you and Djanna in the pitch black, save for the small square of lantern light in the library behind you. You cry out for your friend, dropping with a whine, sniffing and prodding about the floor, looking desperately for some way to open it back up again, but in the end find nothing. Djanna likewise helps you look, and eventually you find a single stone pressed down below the level of the rest, stuck there.

"Nadia... is she..."

You sniffle, tears falling from your eyes. You throw back your head and give a long, mournful howl.

You shake your head, wipe your tears away, and growl softly at the ground. You can smell air coming from below, and you bend to run your nose along the ground, crawling along the wall on all fours, tail in the air.

"Nadia, we need to keep going! Maybe we'll find her further in... at least, maybe..."

You ignore her. You're pretty sure you've found the outlines of the moving floor. About a ten foot length, the cobbled stones seem to be as solid as the rest, but there's a gap in the mortar at the edges of the trap, and they actually come away from the wall just a little. Near where you came in, there are slight scuffs on the wall. The hallways grows brighter and you look up with hope in your eyes, wagging your tail.

Djanna returns from the library, carrying an oil lamp. You frown softly, feeling again like you might cry. Djanna shakes her head and crouches, putting an arm around you tightly. "It's okay. I'm... I'm sure she's fine. We'll just keep going for now, and maybe we'll find-"

"Uh-uh." You shake your head, shrugging her arm off and resuming your path around the outside of the trap, pulling at the stone edge of the trap nearest the library. You move to the other end, and when Djanna moves to follow you shoo her off the moving floor. You press down on the edge, then stand and jump up and down on it, and even fall to your knees and start punching it.

Finally, your paws bruising under the fur, Djanna pulls you away and you collapse against her, panting. She holds you close as tears fall silently along your cheeks.

"She's tough, okay? I'm sure she's fine." Exhausted by your efforts, you nod. You take a moment to collect yourself, then move on.

You exit the hallway into a smaller room, three treasure chests occupying the north, east, and southern walls. Something in the room smells slightly metallic, like Djanna's hoard, but something also smells somewhat off.

"Djanna," you whisper to her, leaning back. "Something doesn't smell right. Is there anything on those boxes that looks wrong to you?"

The dragon shakes her head, raising the lantern and peering in. "I don't see anything... let's get a closer look..." She creeps forward slowly, and you slip through the door to walk beside her. You approach the first chest, one of the ones that smells off. Djanna crouches and examines the chests, running a claw lightly over the lock. She pokes at it softly, and it rattles a bit. She repeats this on the other two chests, then turns her back to them with a grin. "They all seem all right to me!"

The lids all slam open at once and begin banging like the maws of hungry beasts. The both of you are back through the doorway, Djanna hiding behind you, in a heartbeat. You hear that same high-pitched tittering laughter, the lids of the chests moving in time with it, before they slam shut again and remain still.

Eventually, your heart stops threatening to burst through your ribs and make a break for it. Whatever it was you smelled that seemed off is gone, and now you're just left with the scent of dust, old cloth, and something with a slightly different metallic odor than the one you detected previously. You move to take a step into the room and realize that you're practically dragging Djanna.

You hug Djanna tightly, shivering along with her.

"It's okay... th-they aren't alive. They're not monsters. I think. I mean, they didn't move. We're safe. Everything is just fine. Yeah... just fine. Emma's gone, boxes laugh at us, and we're trapped down here underground, but we're fine! Everything's good!"

"Djanna..."

"It's not like we're going to die down here or anything! After all, we-"

"Djanna!"

You snap her out of it, hugging her tightly as you give a final shiver from the tips of your ears down your spine and along your tail. She finally calms enough to let go of you, giving you a soft nod. You turn and step back into the room, motioning for her to wait behind you. You step in and carefully open the first chest. Inside you see a small collection of rusted blades in rotten scabbards, nothing worth keeping, though you have Djanna come in and confirm. She shakes her head, and you move onto the next chest, finding rotten clothing of varying styles, but all of a single size too tall and narrow for you. You move to the third chest and reach out toward it.

Suddenly, it lunges forward, lid snapping open ans it tips forward, trying to slam on you. Without thinking, you kick out and shatter the lid. It tips forward, spilling its contents along the ground. Empty jars, a small rotten leather bag of those same brown metal discs - coppers, Garush taught you - onto the ground, and a few other pouches of dust. Djanna, to her credit, didn't run but she did leap back when the chest moved. You hear another laugh, this one much deeper and more fearsome, a menacing presence temporarily swirling about you before it too vanishes.

"Can... can we go now?"

You nod, but stop to scoop up the copper coins and slip them into your pack.
>>
>>40331254
Another quick jaunt down the trapped hallway, complete with a cursory tertiary search, and you pass through the library into a room with long tables, laden with strange beakers, jars, and flasks. The four tables are arranged in a sort of cross, a drain in the floor at the center. In this room, you see an actual iron-banded wooden door with a barred window set into the wall, latched, but unlocked.

Djanna hurries in, hissing softly. "Nadia, don't make so much noise! You don't know wh-"

A loud thudding sound, followed by Djanna crying out in pain draws your attention back to her. You see her fall flat on her rump, holding her nose as blood trickles from it under her fingers. She whines softly, but over that you hear the shifting and rattling of glass, followed by a whooshing sound. You roll to the side on instinct, and one of the beakers shatters into the stone floor, spraying glass over the floor. As one, several more beakers rise into the air, spinning and catching the lamplight. You hear that same menacing laugh and feel that same malign presence as something shimmers into view over the drain - a transparent image of a figure clad in heavy robes, bedecked in chains, face obscured in shadow. Long, slender arms clad in heavy sleeves are held above its head, with long, pale fingers directing the spinning glassware as a conductor directing a symphony.

Oh, and to the anon asking about the holy symbols. Yes, rotationally symmetrical, and they're like thin little scars in the pads of her hands, like brands/burns.
>>
>>40331949
Nah seems like a bad idea
>>
>>40331949

I would say that rolling against a DC as opposed to a dynamically shifting value would be easier. Granted, the dynamic system produces a host of different possible outcomes not possible the other way (such as an otherwise superior enemy floundering). However, it also introduces an additional layer of complexity.
>>
>>40331949
Nah i like how it is now tbh
Also seems like it'd make player participation in combat really fucking small
>>
>>40331637
You growl and bare your claws, the light gleaming from them causing the apparition to recoil, throwing its arms up in front of it. The glassware falls, shattering where it impacts on the floors and tables as you bound forward, raking up through the phantasmal mass. It gives a low moan as you shred it like a gossamer curtain, the wispy tatters of it fading into non-being as your claws rake through it. There's a strange sort of resistance, like you were dragging your paw through water, and as soon as it passes through, the creature is gone.

Huh... that seemed easy. Too easy.

Still, after a few long moments on guard, no further attack comes, and you turn to Djanna, helping her up and examining her nose. She pinches the bridge of it tightly, whimpering. A dark bruise is forming on her face where the flask struck her, and she still seems somewhat dazed, but for the most part unharmed. You pull the healing kit from your pack, hand it to her, and she stuffs a few pieces of gauze in each nostril to stem the flow of crimson. She whimpers softly as she pokes at her injury.

"I wonder if I'm cursed..." she whines softly, leaning against you, sniffling.

You hug her and stroke her thin hair comfortingly. You kind of wonder the same, but say nothing about it.

A cursory search reveals nothing further of interest in this room, and with nowhere else to go, you open the heavy banded door, revealing a long circular staircase leading downward.
>>
>>40332107
As soon as you set a foot on the first step, a torch around the corner lights, and once you pass that one, another, and so on until you reach the base of the stairs. A short hallway stretches out before you, two deep alcoves in the walls on either side of the hall, and at the end a heavy stone door. Emblazoned upon it is a large circular map, and surrounding it are pictograms depicting various animals. At the top a dragon, proceeding through spider, wolf, serpent, bird, man, and a few that have been scratched out.

You search the alcoves, stone crypts like the one in the first room settled deeply against the wall. Each one bears an inscription.

"BALANCING SCALES"

"THE WEALTH OF NATIONS"

"THE BOND OF FRIENDSHIP"

"UNENDING TRANQUILITY"

You have no idea what any of it means. A quick attempt to force one of the lids open yields nothing, and you whine softly. Djanna has moved to the door, examining the relief engraved on it and comparing it to her map by lamplight. You see her running a claw along veins of gold wire laid into the stone, tracing them slowly. She holds up her map and her eyes flick back and forth, comparing the two as if lost in thought. The next time she reaches out to touch the door, it shudders open with a rumble and she steps back, flinching.

"Eeeeeeeeeeenteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer..." that same light, tittering laugh issues forth from the warmly lit interior, the voice high-pitched and somewhat sweet-sounding. The scent of something catches your nose, like spices and Autumn.

Your hips shake back and forth as your tail wags. Djanna peers inside through the crack in the door. "Hey, is that-"

You bound past her, shoving the door open. You don't have time to take in the warmly lit interior, luminescent orbs hanging from the ceiling in the form of constellations, a large irridescent stone representing the moon, nor notice that the ankle-deep water you bound through all laps the coasts of carefully-carved continents mirroring those on the map outside. All you see is Emma, sitting atop a vault beside a semi-transluscent, lightly glowing woman wearing a cowl, durable clothing, with a sword and a staff strapped side-by-side at her back. You tackle the kitsune, pinning her to the crypt and wagging violently as you nuzzle her cheek-to-cheek.

"EMMAEMMAEMMAEMMAIWASSOWORRIED!" You hug her until she squeaks, still wagging as her tails twitch. Djanna hurries over to join you, coming up short when she notices the ghost, who waves at the dragon girl with a sweet smile.

"Get off me! Good grief, I'm glad you were worried, but I'm fine! Varda and I were just talking! I'm okay, I promise." She adds the last quietly, hugging you back. You examine her quickly, sniffing her all about before you pull back after she swats at you lightly, bouncing up and down on your paws.

"That's my fault! I'm so sorry, I forgot all about the collapsing floor trap!" the ghost smiles, closing one eye as she knocks herself lightly in the head. "I don't get many visitors here any more, so I forget about what entertainment I've prepared."

"...entertainment?" Djanna looks at the ghost, eyes narrowing.

"Uh huh!" The ghost smiles with pride. "I mean, what's the point of being a ghost if you can't give people a good scare when they come visit you?"

You frown at the ghost and stomp your foot. "That was mean!" You whine softly, tail rising in anger and ears folding back. "You scared us! First you make us think we lost Emma, and then you make the chest try and bite us, and then the scary guy in the chains appears and hurts Djanna! What part of that is supposed to be fun!? You shouldn't bully kids! You... you made me hurt one of your friends..." You frown, tail drooping as you take the cuffs of your sleeves between thumb and forefingers, rubbing the material softly in shame. The ghost tilts her head at you in confusion.

"Hmm? Guy in chains? What are you talking about, sweetheart?" She sinks through the tomb up to her waist, stepping out of it on her ghostly feet. As soon as she's once more in full view, you hear a malevolent cackling and the silver sphere overhead explodes, sending silver splinters flying down into the room. Several of the glittering stars are shattered. Emma and Djanna cry out in pain, several shards burying themselves deep into their flesh, blood pooling up from the wounds. The poltergeist reappears, its chains and robes split, revealing seething darkness under its ghostly robes. The feeling of hate and wickedness fills the room, and Varda seems to fade just a bit, though the expression on her face darkens with hate.

"I thought you were still sealed below..."

The poltergeist doesn't speak as a glittering, shimmering opalescent wall of force rises over the door to the inner crypt, the shards of silver dislodging from where they'd embedded in the girls and the ground, swirling in a lethal-looking cloud about it.

You feel the familiar glow encircle your hands as Emma levels a hand at the creature - or more specifically, the cloud of silver shrapnel whipping about the air around it. It drifts closer to her as she utters the final word of the spell, a small glowing sphere of light coming to life in the center of the whirlwind of metal. The spinning slivers catch the light, reflecting it all about the monster in a near-perfect sphere of light. It howls angrily, the air shuddering with its rage.

Your fists glow with the awesome power of the sun, telling you to destroy this monstrosity before you. You bound forward, intent on driving it back to the darkness whence it came. As you leap to strike, though, the beast expands the whirling cloud of blades in an effort to regain some manner of sight. You fall right into the whirling cloud, the shrapnel carving through fur and skin alike. You howl in shock and pain, falling to the floor and scrambling around behind it, desperate to escape the pain and press of evil energy. You whine softly, thin rivulets of gore flowing down your skin and matting thin and thick fur alike. You hear Emma cry out your name, and Djanna hiss angrily.

The ghost girl has fallen back, pulling the staff from her back, levelling it at the poltergeist and chanting slowly. You know nothing about magic, but whatever she's doing, you hope it works.

The glow on your hands remains, but it's growing dimmer by the moment. You might only have one or two more attempts before it fades, and you're not sure you'll be able to call on it again so soon.

The monster rounds on you, the shrapnel stilling in the air. The cessation of movement causes the light around it to fade, and whatever measure of vision it possessed is restored as it drifts closer. It raises its arms, again like a conductor, and with a swipe of its arms, half the tiny blades fly at you. You dance backward, the shrapnel sinking into the ground just barely before your feet as you dodge, rising back into the air and rejoining the cloud, where they shudder in the air ready to strike again.

All of a sudden, you hear Emma's shrill, psychotic laughter all about the monster. You look behind the monster to see the tiny foxgirl concentrating on the poltergeist as it looks about, trying to pinpoint the source of the sound, momentarily distracted.

That's when you see Djanna, blue light in her mouth and rage in her eyes.

"DON'T HURT MY SISTER, YOU... YOU..." She screams at the beast, and the scent of ozone and the explosive crack of thunder fills the room. Roughly an eight of the shrapnel bits are melted to slag from the heat of the blast, and the poltergeist itself begins to smoke, as though the blow charred it. Djanna takes a step forward, stalking the beast like a monster herself.

Varda continues to chant, and Emma maintains her spell. The creature is momentarily distracted, the cloud of blades still enough that you can attack without risking much damage.

>Roll for your attack.

You leap at the bast, more pouncing tiger than bounding hound, and drive your paws into it. This time, it feels more solid under you, and you drive it into the ground. The cloud of shrapnel falls as the beast is pinned below you and you begin to pound it into the ground - literally, each blow causing its shroud to smoulder. Djanna stalks over, plasma and steam flowing over her lips as she hisses down at it, inhaling to give it a finishing blow. Emma rocks softly on her feet, drained from the rapid-fire casting. The beast's chains have begun to glow, as has the tip of Varda's staff.

It's begun to shudder, its form shifting and morphing, losing all sense of cohesion. As you try to keep it pinned, you remember a summer long ago where you tried horseback riding. This reminds you, uncomfortably, of your uncle tricking you into trying to ride the wildest horse on the ranch. You don't have time to question these strange memories, however.

You feel your blows beginning to pass through it. It's attempting to flee!

>Roll off and let Djanna take a shot at it
>Try to finish it with a single blow!
>Hope Varda can finish her spell quickly enough

>>

"Djanna!" You roll off and the creature begins to rise, it's form already fading as it attempts to flee.

Your sister plants her feet, tail swinging back and forth as she leans forward and opens her mouth, energy gathering in her throat. She screams a valkyrie's cry, unleashing a bolt of blue energy into the core of the beast and maintaining it full-bore as the wretch shrieks, raising its hands to its head. If the dead can feel pain, you're certain it does. Your eyes fall to the bruise on Djanna's face, and the deep wounds in her flesh, and you're glad in a very dark space in your heart.

The creature's shrieking goes silent, it's form going white as it breaks down into small pieces that sublimate into the air, wispy smoke fading into nothing until the poltergeist is no more. Varda lowers her staff, breaking off the spell. Emma has collapsed face-first onto the ground, whimpering and holding her head. Djanna too looks near exhaustion, and the stinging pain in your wounds is starting to reach your nerves.

The ghost woman frowns softly, her form brightening and solidifying again now that the beast is gone. The force wall over the door shatters and vanishes, as the one in the necropolis had.

"I... really hope you don't think I had anything to do with that..." she says sheepishly.

(Heading to work. Back shortly.)
>>
>>40334329
Jsyk, we literally JUST hit autosage. So if you're gonna take a particularly long time, you'll probably want to make a new thread.
>>
>>40334374
Thanks for the heads up. We'll see. Last night was fucking nuts. For now, questions/comments/concerns?
>>
>>40334451
What happened last night?
>>
>>40334451
Did Djanna EVO, or did we unleash her hidden powers by getting hideously injured?
>>
>>40334587
you mean as far as why I didn't run? Burnout. Sudden and very serious burn out.
>>
>>40334614
EVO brought on by extreme distress. Since I think the concensus was smaller evos, the breath weapon counts.
>>
>>40334683
Nah, I understand the burnout. But you said "last night was fucking nuts"
And I assume you didn't fuck a pistachio.

>>40334801
Oh, at work. Sorry. Was saying I didn't know if there would be a second thread tonight.
>>
>>40334852
Gotcha. Well, do as you must. You've been busting these out like a mad man.
>>
>>40334852
Eh, feel free not to, I need sleep for tomorrow anyway, and I have no idea what time it is for you anyway.
>>
>>40334852
By all means feel free to not run a second thread, Some of us need sleep

Either is good.

am I the only one who sees Nadia, Djanna, and Emma this way?
>>
>>40335147
My preference is whatever allows me to enjoy these threads and actually get sleep as well! Seriously you and those koi are killing me! I see them in my dreams, they are watching, waiting to consume my soul!

>>
>>40335251
So which one's which?
>>
>>40335725
I haven have no idea I've never seen the show.

Whichever one is innocent and full of energy is Nadia.

Emma isn't innocent at all and a spaz.

Glasses girl is probably Djanna.
>>
>>40335874
Id say Emma still has innocense.
She just tries to act like the "mature" one. yknow?
>>
>>40335251
Yes, the rest of us don't see moeblobs
>>
>>40335725
Nadia is definitely Yuko the middle one, not to bright silly and the rascal of the group.
Djanna is Mio the one on the right, neurotic, bright, and just as weird as Yuko.
and Emma is Mai the enigmatic yet widely skilled one who is just as silly as her two best friends.
>>
>>40335956
Exhibit A: The toy store.
>>
Having too much fun with the birds for the second thread?
>>
>>40336520
People want to sleep, so I'll let 'em sleep. Besides, got a couple pensioners riding the Not!Slot machines, so I can't post much right now. If people want a second thread, though, seems it'll be a quiet night.
>>
>>40336711
Fair enough, but you should help the pensioners by running a DnD session with them.
>>
>>40336744
It was hard enough to explain Kobold to the English major friend.
>>
>>40336764
>So what's this story about
>Awooo~
>>
>>40336711
I'd be alright with another thread. No need to push it, though.
>>
>>40336764
What made it so hard to explain?
>>
>>40336908
Choice of tense and voice, mainly. Second person and present tense are apparantly a huge "No" when writing. Only works in the context of the quest, methinks.
>>
>>40336938
Yep, that'd do it.
Quests can work in basically any person, though second is the most common.
But I can't really see a quest working in anything but present tense.
>>
>>40336938
Yeah. I've always thought that odd.
It's one of the things I love about questing. The double middle finger to the status quo.
>>
Here we go! >>40337059
>>
>>40327685
I'm reading through the czarina fight and holyshit qm, you really gotta start punishing tjese idipts for being full blown murderhobos who wont think at all!
