“We’ve spoken a few times” you say “I don’t know her very well” All around you, the grown-ups shift, and some lean in.

“Tell me of her” says the demon, crouching down until its face is almost level with yours.

You shrug, how do you describe yourself?

“She gets into trouble a lot” you say “Instructors punish her, I think maybe she doesn’t like rules.”

“A wise child” says the demon “anything else?”

You wrack your brain for believable but harmless stuff “She only has a few close friends” you say “and sometimes bullies attack her, but she fights them off.”

“A taste for violence” says the demon “good” all around you, the grown-ups nod. You open your mouth to protest that Mili only fights bad people, but then you feel Instructor Tanners hand on your shoulder and you fall silent.

The demon stands, and turns to one of the old men “send forth the supplicants.”

You, Instructor Tanner and Chesi retreat as the grown-ups for a line to the demon, and start asking it for stuff, some of which makes no sense to you.

Instructor Tanner leads you and Chesi away from the main crowds “time to leave” she murmurs to you “lets slip out whilst we can.”

As the grown-ups are busy asking the demon for stuff, the three of you put your cloaks on and quietly slip away. As you walk away from the circus, you ask Instructor Tanner “What was that demon?”

“An Eyeless” she says “they are messengers and diplomats mostly.”

“Why did it want to know about me?” you ask

“I don’t know” says Instructor Tanner in a worried tone.

Chesi squeezes your hand reassuringly “Don’t worry” she says “You’re safe now.”

“Quite right” says Instructor Tanner, but like she’s not even paying attention. You’re walking back to the school, it’s late at night.

Finally you get back to the school and you fall into bed, it’s late and you’re tired. You barely feel Chesi curl up in bed next to you.

The next morning you’re really tired, and Chesi has to drag you out of bed.

You get dressed and go to your first class in a daze, your first few classes in fact.

It’s only after horse-riding that you wake up properly. The shouts coming from the stables might have something to do with that.

As you’re putting your tack away, you, Chesi, Thomas and Jenny hear unkind laughter coming from the stables next door. You can also hear Sera’s voice.

“Leave me alone!” she yells. You all drop your gear in the nearest available space and rush to the stables next door.

There you see a half-dozen of the bullies – Sera is in the middle of them, they’re pushing her back and forth and yelling “Go on, show us, show us your power.”

Sera is trying to get away, but they keep getting in her way. In the corner is one of your riding instructors, but he’s not interfering, he’s just watching. He fails quite a few of Konigs ideals.

There’s also another kid, one of the Talented, holding back from the bullies, and watching, a creepy smile on his face.

No has noticed you all peeking around the door yet.

Sera darts out of the gap opened by Thomas and the other bullies try to follow her, but are impeded by the tangle of arms and legs that is Thomas and two buys much older than him. In their anger they abandon chasing Sera, and start kicking at Thomas.

“Thomas!” yells Sera and rushes in to help him, a blue glow building around her hands.

As she does so the Talented kid rushes towards her, his hand outstretched and a hungry look on his face.

Before he can get near her though, Chesi steps in his path and grins at him. He backs up suddenly, looking disgusted “Get away from me monster!” he yells, and then tries to go around Chesi. She keeps stepping in front of him, and soon he’s backing away from her, yelling “Get away from me!”

“But I’m not touching you” says Chesi with a giggle.

Meanwhile Thomas and Sera are both fighting the bullies, a blue glow surrounding both of them. Despite being outnumbered, they’re holding their own. The Instructor finally gets up and....heads after Chesi, grumbling under his breath about *pitspawned freaks*.

You rush forwards and before the Instructor can get at Chesi you drag her towards the fight “We gotta help Thomas and Sera!” you say.

The sudden change in direction seems to confuse the Instructor and the Talented kid long enough for you both to start mixing it up with the bullies. Soon you’re all slogging it out.

Then you see him: The Talented kid sneaking up behind Sera, her blue light dancing around her. With a predatory grin he stretches out to touch her. You’re too far away, and you’re struggling with an older bully who is trying to get you in an arm lock.

“Sera!” you yell out desperately, she turns, but slow, too slow...

The Talented kid reaches towards her...and is then pulled quickly to one side. Thomas tackles him and the two roll over and over in the straw, punching and kicking at one another.

“Bloody kids!” yells the Instructor “Break it up!” he wades into the melee, pulling bullies back, and walks straight into a solid chunk of blue energy swing by Sera, falling down like he’s suddenly asleep, a nasty-looking mark on his forehead.

You all stop fighting for a moment, except for Thomas and the Talented kid, who continue to struggle.

“You just hit an Instructor” says one of the bullys, looking at Sera in amazement “You’re gonna get in so much trouble”

“I didn’t mean to!” objects Sera, looking upset “I was trying to get you, he just got in the way!”

“I’m not getting in trouble!” declares one of the bullies.

“Nor me” says another. They all turn to flee, leaving you and your friends alone, with the Talented kid, who is trying to strangle Thomas.

“Hey!” you say, giving him a kick “your friends ran off!” You’ll deal with him first you think, then worry about the Instructor.

“He’s still breathing” says Sera hopefully, checking on the grown-up.

The Talented kid stops fighting Thomas for a moment and scowls at you all. A thought occurs.

“Thomas” you say “Your castles named after one of your ancestors, right?”

For dragons, do you mean the gold mine we're splitting with Ebonsong? If so, no, we don't get the benefit from that, since her Lair is in Dalvin. Sofia gets that money currently. She'd probably give it to us if asked, but there's not much a reason to have it default to our income.

I think it's intended as a one-off purchase that you can get for your entire Realm once you've got a Mages Guild regardless of Realm Size.

If it's not, my intent is for the Stronghold to be in the center of our only city anyway, so being around the Stronghold is about the same as being our entire realm for now. Maybe. In the future, I suppose making it a universal feature of our Realm would be another upgrade, probably requiring a larger number of Guilds and Manufactories.

Circle Trade is just about the only Trade focused upgrade that Sofia can anywhere close to afford, so money is mostly going to be going for Defence and Military upgrades from this point on.

I considered giving Sofia her own personal Airship (or two) instead of Circle Trade this year but...decided against it. Next year, maybe. I don't want Sofia to have that kind of firepower before exploding at Konig once she finds out about...basically anything from Littlest Palading. Even if it would solve the corruption problem.

Still a mess to do. Hammering tribal societies into a nation takes a lot of work, time and may never be done (see modern Afganistan). Bluey at least is able to fit the charismatic strongman archetype that can hold them together though.

Figure some sort of Federal type situation will be the solution, where each tribe handles it's own internal affairs, sends some resources to Bluey and the Federal government largely mediates between the tribes. Would not really be a parliment or congress, just likely infrequent tribal meets.

Storms are awesome since we could conjure them as well as dismiss them. Draught? Have a storm with some heavy rain. Need to sneak up or fight somone? Have a storm to make a racket, make soldiers misserable with mud and rain and all that.

Need to have a Port blockaded? Hit them with a windy storm that blows constant waves in the Harbor.
