"Come on! This has to work! We're so close!"
Julie and I push against Mom as she tries to fit through the much-too-narrow window to the outside.
It's her chest, her huge chest is keeping her from wriggling through to the outside.

"Stop stop STOP STOP!" She yells, pulling herself back into the building. "We'll have to try another way."
Aww.

I am Itsukuma Masami, and I'm having a small problem right now. We're trying to make our escape from Fortune, but it's impeded by the ground floor not having an exit at the moment. We took a former-monster's advice on slipping out through the window of one of the restrooms. It's just we're having a problem right now trying to fit Mom through the otherwise extremely narrow opening.
"Come on! One more time! I think you can do it!" Julie tries encourage Mom.
"No, not today." Mom crosses her arms.

It was sound advice, Julie and I can fit through just fine. I suppose the girl didn't take adults into account.
Speaking of which, that girl is sitting in the main room, refusing to move or leave with us. She thinks she belongs to the building or something.
I can tell, very faintly, that she seems sad about that. She's laying her face on the front desk.

"Now what?" Julie asks.

"Hold on, I'm going to see if there's an easier way."

I walk out to the lobby and try to get the attention of the girl again.
"Um, Hi."
"mm."
Her head is still slumped on the table. She doesn't even raise it to notice me.
"Do you know if there's another way out?"
She sighs, before shrugging her shoulders.
"you're always the one that breaks in, why can't you break out now?"

That's rude.
I return to the others and instead try to think of a way to get Mom through this hole.

I didn't want to have to do this.
"Mom, Julie, stand back. I'm gonna widen that hole."

I take out Belle and let her sword manifest in my hand.
With a swing, it makes direct contact with the outer lip of the window. There's a deafening crack as part of the slab falls away.
"We did it!"

That's when the entire wall falls over.
WHUMP.

Mom jumps backwards as Julie and I rush forward.
Silence.

It seems like the wall just decided to fall over on its own. Something seems really wrong with that.
Julie takes a step onto the wall, hopping on it several times to make sure it won't spring back up or anything, before giving us the all-clear.

Carefully, I help Mom up over the ruined section of brick and run out into the parking lot. We notice that there's some kind of commotion occurring just outside the building.

It almost looks like a stand-off between a group of about five or six people, and another man who stands before them.
It's Asai.

"Julie. Lead Mom out of here, the way we came in."
She grabs onto my shoulder, and whispers.
"Are you okay with that? You'll be alone to take on Asai."
"I'll be fine." I say to her, with complete confidence. "Just go. "

She nods and takes Mom's hand. I carefully start to approach Asai and the others.
Fortunately, they don't see me.

"-so leave the kids alone." The principal crosses his arms. "They have nothing to do with your business."
"I'm not after the kids." Asai snaps back at him. "I'm here after you as you are here after me."
"You're wrong." The principal crosses his arms. "I don't do that anymore. I have a family now. Fighting is something I no longer do."

"I don't believe you, David." Asai seems less than amused.
Asai looks over to Aiko's mom. "That goes for you too, Marie."

David? Marie? Those sound like an english names.

The principal puts his arms up. "I just want to take these kids home."
"Aha!" Asai points right at him, "Here's where I know you're lying: You could have taken them home any time you wanted."

Wait, what?
"There's a bubble surrounding us." The principal sounds extremely irritated.
"I wasn't talking to you." Asai corrects him, and then looks to his right.

Toward Aiko's mother.
"Marie. That barrier is something of your own doing. Why didn't YOU take it down?"

Aiko's mother looks upset, "So? I did it to keep the monsters inside. That's why I put it up."
"Wait." The principal turns to her, "You didn't tell me about this."
"But it's still up. Clearly you have something else in mind."

'David' looks at Aiko's mom and then back to Asai. Both of them are staring each other down.
Asai sighs, "Then I'll tell you why it's up, you want these kids here. Don't you? Tell us what your game is."

Silence, but I can see Julie just turned the corner to the sewers.

Hold on, what did Aiko's Mom do again? She made the bubble?
I guess if it's to keep monsters in, then that's okay. Then, why didn't she remove it when we came to rescue Mom?
I hate to say it but Asai is right, that's really weird to do.

"You're wrong." Aiko's mom clenches her fists. "I don't want any of our kids here."
"You definitely want someone who came with you to stay here." Asai suppresses a laugh.

"I don't have to answer to you!"
"Mom.." Aiko pulls on her sleeve.
"Not now! We can talk about it later!"

"Fine, then you'll be off then with the kids, right?"

'Marie' is silent.
The principal nudges her.
"Hey, we need to get the kids out of here. Let's go."

The principal starts to usher everyone toward the parking lot exit.
Except, Aiko's mom continue to stare Asai down.

"Hey, Marie." The principal taps her shoulder. "Aren't you going to let us out."
"Not until this is done with."

That sets the principal off. His tone changes immediately.
"You said you were done with this stuff!"
"David."
"You're too old to run around playing superhero! You have a daughter and a family now! Let the damn monster have his stupid castle."

"I refuse." She continues to stand with her arms crossed. "This is our only chance, David. Almost every monster left in existence is inside of this bubble. We can finish it all right now."
"No." She plainly states. "Some of those 'children' are monsters themselves."

..
Huh?

"Marie! You can't be serious!"

"I suspected as much." Asai shrugs. "I knew you hadn't quite given up yet. I'm going to guess you're keeping the kids in here because you don't think I'll hurt them to get to you, huh?"
His words are interrupted by a sudden and very intense realization on my part.

We need to leave. Right now. Everyone, out, now.
I run back into the building and try to grab the sobbing girl on the front desk. She refuses to budge.

"HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY! HEY!"
I shake and shake and shake her shoulder.
"Mmmph!" Is all I get in return.

She bats at me with one of her arms as she tries to shuffle the chair away.
"WAKE UP!"

"STOP IT!" She finally snaps her head up and glares at me. "You're not my mother! I can sleep as much as I want!" She pouts.
"No! You can't sleep right now! There's something really bad going on outside!"

"It's not my problem then." She scoots away from me once more. "Anything happening outside is none of my concern. My life is dedicated to the workings of this building."
That-

I can't take it anymore.
I pull her away from the desk, and very roughly grab her into a hug.
"THAT ISN'T TRUE!" I yell, right into her ear.

She pulls away from me. "What would you know about that?! You've lived with that body all your life! You've always been useful to someone! All I am is a kid now that's just useless dead weight. This building is the only thing left in the world for me."

I hear the argument outside through the ruined wall. It seems to have escalated to yelling.
Which means there is less time than I thought I had!
"WE CAN ARGUE ABOUT THIS LATER!" I yell at her, "LET'S GO!"
"You're not takin- WAIT WAIT WAIT!"

Immediately I scoop her up into my arms and bolt out the ruined wall. She squirms and pounds at my shoulder the whole way. Her kicking nearly causes me to trip and fall several times.

Outside, the argument is to the point where the Principal is standing between Asai and Aiko's Mom. The kids are slowly starting to shuffle back.
All of them stop and turn when they notice the pink-haired girl carrying the screaming blue-haired girl out.
"Masami." Asai steps back.

"MASAMI!" Aiko yells, "Get out of here! Now!"

"Priestess!" Asai yells at me, putting his hand out. "Stop! I don't want you going with that woman! Go back inside where it's safe!"

"NO!" I yell at him, still carrying the screaming girl.

Instead, I look right at the group that has separated themselves from the adults and yell at them.
"We're leaving! Everyone! Come with me!"

Hesitantly, they follow along behind me as we make a beeline for the exit.
I hand the complaining girl over to Ryouta, so he can deal with her instead.

That's when I realize something. In the crowd of kids that are slowly starting to leave. There is someone missing.
I look past everyone and toward the adults, and that's when I notice that there's a kid standing with 'Marie'.

"AIKO!" I yell at her, as she continues to hold onto her mother's arm. "DON'T STAND THERE! COME ON!"
"I-I can't!" She yells back. "If I leave then he could do something to Mom!"

I hear a shift, and look over toward Ryouta. He's handed the confused girl over to my new invisible sister. He turns around and starts heading for Aiko.
"I can't leave without Aiko!"
"Neither can I!" Maeda yells.

That means all the human kids are staying behind. Except one, of course.
"Everyone else! Get going! I'll meet up with you later!"
"(but)-" The difficult-to-see girl looks nervous. Emillion grabs her hand and starts leading her out toward the exit.

"Guys." Aiko still clings to her mother's arm. "You should really leave, this is a family problem."

"So is this!" I yell at her. "Make your mother stop acting crazy!"
"I really can't!" Aiko tries pulling at Mom's arm once again, but she resists. "This is something she has been talking about for a long time, I just didn't think she would really do it!"

"Mom! It's okay! Look! Everything is fine. Everyone got out, you can come too!"
"Mrs. Hotaka!" I grab onto her other arm. "You shouldn't deal with Asai, he's a big jerk and you might catch something from him!"

She shakes both of us off and walks up to the principal.
"Move."
"Marie! Stop! Everyone left already!"

She glows, and with a slap, sends the Principal flying.

"He's right you know." Asai gives the biggest grin ever. "If your plan was to trap all the monsters in here, you've done a surprisingly bad job."
"You're finished, Tower."
She starts to glow again as she approaches him.

"Mom! Stop!"

"If you think you can do it. Then just do it." Asai is still smiling.

No.
No no no no no something is wrong!

"Everyone! Get away right now!"
I can feel Belle overtake me once again, and combine it with the speed card.

I lurch forward and grab Aiko's mother, and then turn around and grab Aiko in my other arm!
"RUN AWAY!" I yell. The principal grabs Maeda and Ryouta as we dart for the edge of the barrier!

That's when I notice, Aiko's mom is glowing again.
"MOMMY! STOP!" Aiko tries to grab onto her mother's arm as she is being carried.
"This is my only chance!" She growls, her hands press into my shoulderpads.

That's when a section of building seems to crash CENTIMETERS behind me.
I audibly squeak as I pick up the pace. Aiko's Mom is extremely speechless.

"T-THAT WAS TOO CLOSE!" Aiko yells, her mother continues to not say anything.
She doesn't want to admit it, but if she did stick around, she would be under that building.

"MASAMI!" Aiko yells, "THE BUILDING IS MOVING!"
I turn my head to notice that the entire structure seems to have bent over, almost like it's menacing ME in particular.
The barrier comes closer and closer. The principal yells at Aiko's mother.
"It's time to take it down, Marie! Come on! Do it!"
"It doesn't work that way!" She yells back. "It takes some time to make a hole in it, it's not instant!"

I look and notice something, on the other side of the barrier, there seems to be two figures. They both burn with a blue aura and a red aura. Each one of them is peeling the bubble back little by little.
"Step aside!" I hear from behind me.
There's a whistling by my ears as an extremely large metallic figure speeds past us.

It's that monster again, the good one. He strikes the barrier right at the point the two on the other side seem to be channeling.
He grabs onto a section of the bubble, like it was made of putty. Struggling, he lifts it above his head, creating a small hole.
"Quickly!" He bellows as he struggles with the fabric of the bubble.
The principal and I duck below the bubble as the hole collapses behind us. The monster falls to the ground as the two figures run over.

One of them is clearly Julie, she looks out of breath and a little irritated. The other is someone that I'm not sure I'm familiar with.
"Hello?" I ask the red one as I set Aiko onto the ground. "Thank you for helping us!"

"Hey!" Julie immediately jumps over to me and grabs my arm. "Just remember, I'm HER best friend!"
The girl in the red dress looks almost insulted.
"You mean, you don't recognize me?"

"No! She doesn't!" Julie sticks her tongue out at her.
She puffs out her cheeks and helps the monster up. I'm still struggling to understand what is going on.

"How did you know we would go to that part of the bubble, anyway?" I ask her.
"Because I know you too well, Masami." She pouts.

Wait.
Red dress, knows me too well, red aura.
"Haruko?"
"SEE! SHE DID KNOW MY NAME!"
I jump over and wrap my arms around her.
"It really is you!"
"And I'm your favorite!" She smiles.

"Wait- hold on-"
Julie grabs my arm again.

Both of them are glaring at one another.

Aiko's mother looks upset, Aiko seems to be angry, Ryouta looks betrayed, and Maeda has that creepy smile again.

I don't know what problem to deal with first.

The Principal was a former monster fighter who retired and is live and let live.

Aiko's mom is a former monster fighter who never let go of it.

And she knows about us and the cards and tried to kill us.

And Julie and Haruko are both saying we're their favorite.
