Your name is Reggie, and you are ready for combat. You are a friendless freshman in a huge college campus, who has decided to play Humans vs Zombies. It is the first full day of your Campus' game of Humans vs. Zombies, the NERF tag game to end all NERF tag games.

Last night, when the game began, our hero spent a few hours modding his Nerf Blaster to maximize his abilities, meeting a new squad of people to fight with, and shooting his first zombie player. His new squad made it through the ambush that awaited them at the first mission, and Reggie made a new enemy in Graham Lance, King of Zombies.

Now, you have another day, another mission, and another battle for survival ahead of you...and maybe, you'll make some friends along the way.

You are, rather Hungry, it being morning and all. But now, you are faced with a decision. Go outside, and risk running into zombies on the way to the dining common? Or make some mac and cheese here? You have some other snacks you could eat, too.

>Eat Mac and cheese and other snacks

It seems like a lot of people were not as lucky as you guys were on your way home. Out of the 450 students playing, it seems a full 25 were turned last night, giving the zombies a number of around 36 now. Out of the other squads, one of the four you know seems to be mostly crippled, but the others seem to be doing okay.

Going through the forums, a guy named Nord has made a post saying that Freshman should be careful today, as a lot of zombies will be watching the DCs to pick off unwary players. All it'll take is one hand touching you for you to become a zombie.

People are also talking about how some rando freshman in a tac vest shot Graham Lance like it was nothing. Seeing your exploits in text makes you feel pretty good.

Who do you want to text?

You decide to stay in for now. You have plenty of food, and why take the risk?

You get some hot water from the little heater your mom gave you when you moved in here, and stir your mac and cheese up. As you wait for it to be ready, you send out the group text. Its the safest option, for sure.

Reggie: Hi guys, did you all make it back okay?
Gus: Reggie! Good Morning, just woke up, haha.
Hong: I've been up for Hours! Thanks for saving me last night, Homie.
Gus: We were about to go get lunch, wanna join us? Andrew and Max are gonna come too it could be like, team building, or something.

Mac and cheese can happen at any time, but now your fr-squad members need you. You put on your tac vest over your navy Tshirt, grab your Rapidstike Blaster, load a clip, and headoutside.

It is a bright sunny day in central verdant. you cross the road to head towards Cherry Hill, and as you do so you look down at campus, stretching out below. You don't spend a lot of time outside, but your campus is pretty, you guess. As far as a concrete jungle goes. You can see the local DC at the bottom of the hill, and can smell that delicious deep fryer stank from here. You pass by the weird Sculpute Memorial/Stonehenge thing and head along the top of the hill. So far, no zombies.

You've never been to Cherry Hill in the daylight, but as you walk through it, you realize that this place is perfect for HvZ. The Green area in the center has a slight indent, but the way the doors don't open out the same way makes total coverage of the place impossible.

You get to the door of the dorm with no incident, and see Hong is waiting for you, in what looks to be workout sweats. Hong is just as massive a dude as you remembered, and he is holding a Stryfe Blaster in each hand, holding the door open with his bulk.
"Hey homie! How you sleep? Everyone else will be here in a sec, Max was a little hung over this morning."

Gus comes down the stairs, chatting with a slightly pale max and Andrew who looks as stoic as ever. He nods at you, once.

"Hey dude! Glad you could make it! So, whats the plan?"

Max blinks blearily "I'm all for that, I need a serious amount of eggs before I'm ready to rumble, man." Hong snorts dismissively. "I'm not carrying your weak ass if we get into a fight" "Be that as it may, I think this is a good plan Reggie, lets do it."

With these words from Gus, everyone loads up, and heads outside.

You cut down the hill, moving between Kenton Hall and Boweridge. You round the corner by Boweridge, in front of the Student Run sandwich shop someone decided to name "Stoney Mahoney's" (Max laughs) and see that there are about four zombies looking around this side of the DC. Chesire DC has two entrances on this side, behind a row of brick collums, about a foot apart from each other. Two are leaning against collums, facing in your general direction, one is looking through the glass by each door. They appear to have not seen you yet.

>Set up a Ruse

Unfortunately, you are no a master tactician. So, you go with what seems like the best idea to you...an ambush.

(Based off of >>40282630 and >>40282998 )

This is what you guys have today:

Andrew: Blowpipe and Marshmallows: easily the longest range, but takes a moment to reload. You've never seen him shoot it before, either.

Max: Max has the same model of gun as you, so think of it as a light machine gun. His is not as good, however.

Gus: Has a pump action rifle with about 12 shots. Reliable at mid range.

Hong: Has two Stryfes, devestating short to mid range power

You: Modded Light Machine gun, goes a little further and faster than Max's same ammo count.

You need two people for the bait, if this is your plan, one person to snipe, and two people to ambush the attackers. Who do you want doing what?
>>
>>40283234
>bait: Gus, Hong
>ambush: Us, Max
>snipe: Andrew
>>
>>40283234

>>40283234

>>
we don't actually know if andrew can hit the broadside of a barn with that thing. it's also slow to load and takes only 1 shot before reload.
>>
>>40283234
>bait: Gus, Hong
>ambush: Us, Max
>snipe: Andrew

Gus and Hong will have to be ready to go HAM when the time is right.

Also, ask Andrew if he's a good shot. If he says he isn't, he's bait
>>
>>40283363

>Ask Andrew if he's a good shot

Andrew looks at you kind of blankly for a moment, the way a cow might look at something, then nods. "...yeah, I guess."

>>>40283363
>>40283280
>>40283303

>gus and hong are bait

"ROOMIE POWAAA!" Hong wishper-roars. They fist bump. "We can probably take these guys by ourselves, anyways."

>Max and Reggie Ambush

"Low stress, I can get behind that, but don't get them killed or I will be pissed, man."

And with that you set the plan into motion. You and Maxcrouch in the bushes by the edge of the building. Andrew sits on the porch of stoney Mahoney and starts angling the blowgun, aiming for the one by the door on your side.

>>
>>40283542

As Gus and Hong approach, gripped in an intense conversation, Hong plays his part magnificently. "OH SHIT!" He raises both Stryfes and takes two steps back. "COME ON, MOTHAFUCKAS!" Gus stands beside him as all four zombies approach.

"...Should I snipe now?"
"Dude, yes, take the shot!"
PHHFT! The Marshmallow launches out of the tube, and hits the furthest zomie in the chest. He stops, looks down at the marshmallow, and lowers his headband.

At this moment, you and max come out of the bushes, and join Hong and Gus to blast down the zombies. Hong shoots the closest one twice, you gun down the furthest one, and even Max manages to hit a zombie...a second after Gus does.

The zombies wander off to respawn, and you go inside to a well earned meal.

"Dude, that was awesome! We fucking rocked!" Hong and Max high five, and everyone is patting you on the back. Even Andrew looks pleased with his performance through his bushy beard.

"Bro, I TOLD you, I TOLD you getting another dude was the right idea and we got fuckin' Rambo over here! Getting all tactical and shit! HaHA!"

You sit in the DC for a few hours, shooting the shit, talking hype, and getting to know each other.

Yes! Hong and Gus have both expressed interest. You can mod anyone's blasters, should they request it and you feel like it, but it will cost money, and some characters may not want to spend cash on that.

>I want to learn more about Hong

Hong apparently is a huge athlete. He doesn't want to compete in school, for fear of harming his grades, but he still works out every morning. He has always loved FPS games though, so when Gus suggested playing this game, he was the first one to be on board. He wants to go into sports medicine or sports management, but is considering just becoming a doctor. You and him share a brief moment of nostalgia for Time Crisis in the arcades. He and Gus are roommates, and have quickly become best friends.

>I want to know more about Andrew

Andrew, it turns out, doesn't dislike you. He just never talks. He's sort of a potted plant of a human being. He is apparently going for a Philosophy Major, but is also studying Physics as a more tangible fallback plan. Apparently he is from somewhere in the mountains not too far from here, a small town you have never heard of.

>Max

Max perks up after his third cup of coffee and second plate of food. He seems to love three things: Longboarding, playing his sweet collection of drums ("I have bongos, real bongos, like from africa, a djembe, a chemba, and I'm taking this amazing Taiko class right now...") and what he calls "Nature's Gift to Mankind, Mary Jane". He tells you if you ever wanna jam, longboard, or smoke some weed, you can come to him any time of the day, 24/7, 365 and he will hook you up. He seems to be studying music or economics, you can't tell which.

>Gus
Gus is from back east, a more crowded town. He's really into what he calls nerdy stuff- Movies, basic video games, and claims to have played Dungeons an Dragons a few times back home. He's studying History and English and wants to be a teacher, he says.

>we could go get the stuff to go do it now"

"Sure, yeah, why not! We have a few hours before the Mission starts, going into town could be fun."

Hong and Gus elect to go with you to get their guns Modded, while Max and Andrew elect to go back to the dorms. You'll drop them off, then leave capus out the other side to head towards Home Depot, about a 15 minute bus ride away.

As you head towards the exit of the dining hall, you see two humans hiding just outside of the view of the windows, a boy and a girl. The boy has short, frizzy red hair and glasses, and is clutching a Nerf Revolver in one hand. The Girl has a clip fed pistol in one hand, a big purse on her other shoulder. She has long, black hair, in a neat ponytail and a serious look in her dark eyes.

"Humans! Wait! BE careful, there are like 6 outside. They got our friend Joe, and he told them we are in here..." He says to you, eyes almost watering.

"I say we can take them Connor."

"Connor this is an obvious trap, no." "Well you can spend all day sitting here but I'm gonna run for it!"

"Connor, wait!"

Connor bursts out the door, and two zombies that were behind the pillars begin chasing him. The girl shoots, but. Connor is outpacing them, though, and manages to almost round the corner of the dorm...when a dude leaps out of the trash cans beside Stoney Mahoney's.

"...Goddamnit Connor. Lemur Got him."

Connor takes off his arm band, and wraps it around his neck, and walks much slower up the hill.

"Well...whats the call, vest?" The Girl eyes you.

"uhh...Gus is the Squad leader, actually" Max says, but no one pays attention to him.

3-4 zombies remain, 8 minutes until the stunned zombies are unstunnned.

"What, you've never heard of Lemur? Wait, are you guys freshmen? Oh man, I'm relying on a bunch of rookies...Ok, so Lemur is Graham's Right hand man. He's fast, dextrous, clever, but most of all, patient. He's under every parked car, in every trash can...last game, he was in a pile of leaves in front of Nord's house for 8 hours, waiting for him to come home. Graham Lance's kill streak isn't just because he's fast, he and Lemur set each other up for kills like they are basketball players. Check your corners and anything a person could hide in or under, when you can't directly see him, okay?"

"If thats the Plan Reggie, we'll be around the front in like...2 minutes. See you then! Don't get us killed!" Gus gathers the squad and they head off, crouching against the floor.

"Your name is Reggie? In Real Life?"

"Hey! Graham! I'll fight you right, here, right now, one on one! No army to back you up, see if the king is worth being the King?"

Graham pokes his head up from behind his cover. "COME OUT HERE AND SAY THAT, FRESHMAN WORM. YOU'VE SEEN NOTHING, YET LAST NIGHT WAS ONLY DELAYING THE INEVITABLE."

The Girl calls out from behind you "Wait, Graham, this is the guy? Your upset about this dude?"

"RACHEL, THIS IS BETWEEN ME AND HIM, STAY OUT OF THIS."

"Ok, ok...but this guy? Seriously?"

"Oh my God Rachel, why do you gotta kill my Overlord vibe? You do this every game!"

"when you stop chewing fake blood capsules, I'll stop mocking you, Graham."

Graham does not leave cover, but he doesnt notice as your squad rounds the corner, and slowly advances. The two other zombies do, and shout "BRAINS!" as they charge, but they are easily cut down. Graham leaps out of cover, weaves around the first few shots, and dives, but adam throws a Marshmallow which hits him seconds before he tags Hong. Lemur sees this go down and lopes North, before heading into campus.

"Seriously, kid, Reginald, was it? I'm gonna get you. It is going to be epic when I do, and you'll be on the winning team before long. Rachel." He stands up, dusts himself off, and waves, before heading off. "See you at the mission, WORMS."

You walk back up the hill. Rachel peels away once you get past Stoney's. "Well, this has been fun. I like you, Reggie. Here, if you make it to the mission, let's team up. I'll give you my number then. See ya later!"

Hong and Max elbow you about a dozen times as you go up the hill. "Dude, she's a foxxy upperclassman you gotta hit thaaaat"

You drop off Andrew and Max, who have an afternoon of "Bong Hits and chess boxing" ahead of them before catching the next bus into town. Aparently, the town center is not an in game zone, and neither is the Bus, so after a few tense minutes at the bus stop, you are safe.

You get off at the stop closest to Home Depot, barely convincing Hong that Taco Bell could happen after, if not be avoided entirely.

"I have like...15 bucks" Gus says. "So I can't really spend much more than that."I have more like 12" adds Hong. That is probably one project each, and maybe a paintjob.

What do you want to Mod them with?

Air Restrictor Removal: Removing the Air Restrictor increases firing speed and power of both Hong's and Gus' Blasters. Cost: $10, can be split between both of them.

Anti-Jamming: Prevents Hong's Stryfes from activating their clip failsafe, making it much less likey for them to jam. Costs: $5.

Flashlight: buy a flashlight to tape to someone's blaster for night missions. Increases ability to see, prevents most Spot Checks. Cost: $5

Absurdly powerful Li-Ion batteries: Supercharges Hong's Stryfes and your own blaster, doubling their firing rate and distance, but, can burn out the engine if used for too long.

Paint Job: 2.50 each, if they get the same colors.

>If you have another idea, suggest it, and I will tell you the cost, but these are the basic level 1 upgrades.

As you are picking up the last of your supplies, you hear a deep voice from a ways down the aisle. "Air Restrictor Removals, huh?"

You look behind you to see Mike, that Human Leader guy from last night. He has a shopping cart full of PVC of different lengths and a series of different pipings and tubes, amongst other things.

You end up checking out at about the same time. And he talks to you guys while you wait.

"That takes me back...hah, those were simpler times. I needed more tubes for Snowflake, and I'm building...well, its between a Tshirt Gun and a Shotgun, for the end of the game." "What did you think of last night? Are you going to the Mission in a few hours?"

When you get outside, he turns, slightly awkwardly towards you guys. "Hey...my car is a mess, but if you want, I can give you a ride back to campus. I'd hate to see some freshman get jumped getting off the bus."

"Did you say...TACO BELL? You play a dangerous game, my friend. It is a deal." He smiles like madman. Hong cheers.

You get to his car, which turns out to be a retired Crown Victoria Interceptor, you note. The back seat seems to be mostly full of swat gear, piping, and a variety of Nerf Blasters, You and Gus push some stuff around, while Hong takes the front seat.

Hong and Mike match each other ChrunchWrap to ChrunchWrap, Burrito to Burrito.

>>40287153
>>40287090

On the way back to campus the conversation turns to Snowflake. "Yeah, I built her in a drunken state a year and a half ago, I get a solid 10 darts per second, with a clip of 20 if I max it out, and I have custom clips built to frontload her. I have a Co2 tank I strap to my back, I only need to by a few per game. She is perfect for crowd control, but i couldn't use her without my squad backing me up. Stick close to your squadmates, man, if you don't you are dead, no matter what you are carrying."

He snorts and then guffaws. "Good on you, but be careful, my friend. He's got a bounty on you now, for sure. He'll give a zombie who kills you a cure if they bring him proof they got you, or buy them dinner or something. He's a spiteful man, but he is smart. He'll be hunting you during the mission tonight. No offense, but my squad will probably separate from you."

>Missions

"You gotta go to all the Missions. Seriously, they are the best part of this game. Not to mention, if we don't things like Nightmare Mode and Wandering Tank Zombies will become commonplace, and we will have no chance when it counts...besides, sometimes cool shit like Our Tank Mission Happens...last yar, I got to ride in a laundry cart, shooting Snowflake at a bunch of dudes. It was amazing."

>Squads

"Word of Advice...once you lose one member, others will follow quickly. The first person will guilt a friend, or set them up, or get them drunk and bring them outside...you think it won't happen, but it always does. There's no shame in playing Zombie, we all do, eventually, but they'll try to expedite it to not be alone. Also, give corners enough space, Zombies like to rush squads around corners."

>Modding Guns

"If you are gonna soup up those Stryfes, or your own blaster anymore, I suggest ging to a Hobby Shop and buying a bunch of RC Heliopter engines. They'll have the power to avoid the burnout you might get with Li-Ions, or Flywheel enhancements. "

He pulls up in front of Cherry Hill. "Here's your stop, fellas. Be careful, and thanks for the Taco Bell, see you tonight." And with that, Mike/Nord speeds off.

"What do you think of that guy?"

The Mission Details have Dropped. At 5:00, the Mission will begin. The Mission appears to be that 3 crates are hidden around the Residential Areas, and will need to be brought to the Library by 6:30. If the humans can do this, they will win the mission. Each crate has things in it, though, so they will be heavy.

You check the Roster to see what the numbers are like. It appears that, Over the course of the day, the number of zombies has risen to 55. Apparently, the DCs were deatraps for a lot of Freshman.

You put the finishing touches on Hong and Gus' blasters as Max, Andrew and Julie showup. "So, Reggie, I hear you were taunting Graham Lance again?" "Yeah but he saved that girl too, like a Boss!" "Reggie didn't do anything, we did the work." "It was his plan, Max. But anyways, check out this mission."

Everyone reads it over. "Well, if there is a crate up here, we could probably just stay here until Mission start, right?"

"Yeah, except that It seems most of the Humans are gathering down by the Student Center to split off into teams."

"We can just tell them that we have up here covered. We can bring a crate down, no sweat."

"Yeah, not to mention Graham Lance is probably shouting for you head somewhere after all that shit from today." Hong ghortles and slaps your back. "This guy put us on the map in a big way."

"Well, we know this area, and not having to deal with zombies as much is appealing...But we are going to be on our own, we are okay with that?" Julie asks archly, turning towards Gus.

"We've handled some pretty crazy stuff over the last few days. I think we got this." Gus smiles, looking a little more nervous than his words. "This is make or break time for this squad."

>Bastards form a loose right around you, while you form a crescent moon to repel rushes

"Couldn't have said it better myself. Let us do our thing, you keep your boy here alive."

You move as fast as you can moving rapidly towards the Library.

"The Zombies will be waiting for us, I reckon a force of at least 15. Protect your boy, get to the door, as we will take care of the rest. If you had gotten here a little earlier, we coulda maybe gotten you past without any zombies seeing, but about half the horde is still fighthing the Noobs."

The Zombies see you as you approach, and begin to form a loose wall between you and the Library entrance, which is a glass automatic door. Inside the doorway, you see Mike and his team, waiting with one of the crates.

"OI, BASTARDS, TIME TO DO WHAT WE DO BEST! AYAYIYIYIYIYIYAAAAAH"

"AYYYYAYAYAYYIYIYIYIYIYYAAAAH!"

The Bastards begin whooping, jumping, and eventually, sprinting towards the zombies.

The bastards are not a conventional HvZ fighting force. Their leader would tell you after that they are all members of the school's Parkour Society, and play this game exclusively to do sick stunts and wreck zombies. They play just as hard when they get turned, and are then a force to be reckoned with, but as humans, they shine, in an unusual way.

The Bastards leapt over benches to throw marshmallows, rolled to avoid tags while throwing, all sorts of circus shit to keep the zombies off balance. They made the line waver long enough for your team to punch through, Blasters blazing as you went. Fortunately, it seems Graham Lance is not amongst the horde here.

" 'Bout time." Mike says, nodding once. You can see he is pumping up Snowflake, and seems about ready to put this whole thing to bed. Rachel is standing next to him and smiles at you with only the slightest amount of condescension mixed with her happiness. "You had me worried, Vest. If you got turned out there I was gonna pistol whip you." "Rachel, we told you, pistol whipping isn't-"

"We gonna save the bastards or what?"

>mop up the rest

Mike Nods, and he holds up a hand. "On five, we step out, and blast them. One...two...three...four...FIVE! MOVE!"

You swing out as one, and open fire, moving up out of the entrance quickly. Gus and Hong move as one, firing to cover each other's Blindspots. Julie shoots a zombie who tries to leap over a bench to escape before he can make the final jump. She smiles, a smile of triumph, and fury. Max guns down a zombie, only to be saved by a well placed snipe by Andrew. Rachel picks her shots, dispatching Lemur before he can get out from under that same bench.

And then Mike opens fire with Snowflake, and all the zombies pull down their handbands defeated.

All told, two Bastards and an Operative were lost, but the rest have held on.

And as the darts settle and the collection begins, The Agency with the crate rounds the hill. They are accompanied by about 12 others.

"Good work guys...but where are the rest?"

"This is all that got away. Graham got to the crate first. 15 casualties, all told."

"18 this mission. Not good. Still, we won. Good work, everyone. Now, get outta here, The Operators will take things from here.

"Reggie...come here for a moment." Mike beckons. "Give me your number. If something like this comes up again, it would be good to have direct contact." Rachel nods "Give me your number too, you kept your end of the bargain."

Contacts Gained:

Mike/Nord
Rachel

MISSION 1 COMPLETE: Zombies will have +1 Minute Stun timers from now on. This means 6 minutes during missions, 11 outside of missions.

You and the squad flee back to Cherry Hill.

"Man, this was one hell of a day" Gus says, breathless. "You can say that again Homie" Hong nods, pleased as fuck. "I gotta give you credit man, we couldn't have pulled it off without you" Max says, smiling at you.

Max-Senpai noticed us!

Gus turns towards you, suddenly sort of awkward

"hey, so...we were gonna have a party tonight. A quiet sort of things, you know? Max has this friend that got us a handle of Vodka an a case of PBR, and we were gonna watch a Movie and Play Mario Kart and stuff. Do you wanna come? its cool if you don't wanna drink...or like, have stuff to do, I just thought it might be cool."

You have never drank before.

What do you want to do?

Gus beams. "Cool! Cool. Yeah, I guess you do have to get back to your bed later."

Max shrugs "Not gonna stop me, man." Hong bellows, "WE GETTING KRUNK!" "When you shout that, the odds we get in trouble increases every time" Julie sighs.

And we fade out on day 2 of HvZ Quest, with Reggie spending his usually empty nights at his first party, with people he can start to call his friends.

Thats all for tonight! I'll be back tomorrow around 3:30 EST! Thank you so much for playing with me! If there is anything you think I need to improve on, please let me know! Things will be getting tougher from here!
