Your tail wags as you tell your story, about the warrens and the slimes, about glowing for the first time and saving Sylea and Djanna. The dragon girl whines a bit in embarrassment when you get to that part, and you shyly fold your ears back, casting a sidelong glance at her. You continue on about your mother's religious fervor, and how your father thought it would be a good idea for you to leave for a while, and how he'd come up with the story about going on a pilgrimage.

"I didn't want to lie to mama" you whisper, tail folding around your hips with a whimper, "but papa said 'sometimes we have to do bad things to protect ourselves.'"

Emma raises a slim hand. "Question."

"Hmm?" Your tail resumes it's motion, sweeping the ground clean behind you. You nod to her.

"You're both two? As in... weeks. Two weeks old?" You nod, and she shakes her head, one ear twitching as she begins brushing away the coals from the egg. "I don't believe this."

Kitty...

You whine softly, bouncing up and down in place. "But it's true! Honest! I-"

"Shh! I don't mean I don't believe you. It's just really an unfortunate situation. It's kind of a surprise... well, never you mind."

"What's a surprise, kitty?" She casts a glare at you, but doesn't correct you. You're fairly sure you see defeat in her eyes for a moment before she turns to unearth the large brown egg from the flames. It sits in the mound of cinders and ash, blackened but intact. She clears her throat. "Djanna, could you open this up? You should be able to-"

"Ooh! Let me!" You hop to your feet and bound over, reaching into the flames and grabbing the egg in one hand. Emma yelps 'Careful!' at you, but you don't know why. It's just a bit warm. You look down at her, tilting your head curiously, and she returns your look with one of disbelief.
>>
Djanna looks up from the bag of the Czarina's treasures she'd splayed out before her in a semicircle. She swallows deeply, eyes flicking from the gilt baubles to the egg. "You two go ahead. I'll just eat when you're done." She turns her eyes back to the pile of plunder, reaching out here and there to pick something up and admire it more closely.

You don't get what's so fascinating. They're pretty, sure, but your uncles pulled that stuff out of the mines sometime. It's nothing new or special. Still, the smell of something savory meets your nose and all thoughts of the loot are forgotten. You open your mouth to take a bite and Emma lays a hand on your arm, shaking her head.

"Get a hatchet."

Soon enough, the heavy black shell broken away, the three of you feast on the roast egg, filling your bellies and warming yourself against the tickling cold that's crept back into the breeze as the sun wends its way past noontime.

Welcome to RE: Kobold Quest

QM Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/lotuseater1031

Ask me Questions: http://ask.fm/Lotus_Eater

Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/u/Lotus_Eater

SYSTEMS:

Rolling: d100, best of three, roll under, degrees of success (roll compared to DC/opponent rolls and the amount by which you succeed/fail will matter). 1/100 are crit successes/fails, and override other rolls. A crit fail and success on the same roll means the remaining die result will be used.

Win/Lose by 10: Slight Success/Failure

10-20: Moderate Success/Failure

Greater than 20: Extreme Success/Failure

Voting/Writing: Ten minutes for voting, 20-40 minutes for writing as needed.

Final Destination: If a vote is tied/contended, I will call for FINAL DESTINATION, and present the most popular options. For those who don't know, you must vote precisely in the form of ">vote" without additional commentary. This extends 4chan's native post delay from one minute to five, and prevents samefagging or vote padding.

Exploration: While I have a general outline of what's going to happen, sometimes there are instances where things are left to chance. In those cases, I'll call for 1d10, and take the first given. Low rolls are beneficial encounters, with the higher you go being more dangerous. A result of 10 can actually be threatening to the character, and should be treated as such.

Combat: You will be called on to make both an offensive and defensive role, unless you choose FULL ASSAULT/DEFENSE.

Slow start today. Glad you guys are here, mind, just observing. Conversation seems to be the order of the day. Writing.
>>
>>40262200
I have no idea how you haven't burned out yet but keep up the good work you inglorious bastard.

>>40262363
This is fun. I mean, really fun. I always wanted to be an author when I was younger, but I never had either the talent or the endurance for it. I think having an audience and willing collaborators is what I was missing.

Still a hack, though.
>>
>>40262015
After you eat and Emma has doused the fire by knocking snow from the branches above, you sit about in the afterglow of a warm meal. You hadn't had one since you left home and there was something deeply comforting over warm food in your belly after two days on the road. Honestly, when Djanna had asked to return home, you'd sort of been excited, but this is good too, right? You yawn and pat your belly, tail swishing lazily. You settle down beside the dragon, who barely seems to notice your presence until you lean your head on her shoulder and she jerks in place, as if she hadn't noticed you. That hurt a bit, but your curiosity overrides it.

"Whatcha doin'?" You reach out to pick up a bauble. Djanna squeaks and looks like she wants to swat you, but she takes a few deep breaths and shakes her head. The hell?

"Sorry, I just... I was just lookin'..." She mumbles, looking down into her lap with a blush. Well, you think she's blushing anyway. With her skin tone it's hard to tell. You laugh softly and poke her cheek, reminded once again of the fact that she is, technically, the younger sister. You turn your attention to the thing in your hand, a small carved lizard of green stone, with a pretty yellow stone on its back. One of your uncles taught you the names. Umm... emerald, maybe? And... tourmaline? You whine, sure that if you tried to pronounce the latter, you'd bite your tongue.

You look it over carefully before you put it down. Djanna reaches out quickly and rights it, rearranging it on the empty bag before the both of you, her own tail thumping loudly against the ground. "There's just something about these things that's so beautiful. I can't put my claw on it, but they glow. Almost like you."
>>
>>40262569
"Are they all blessed by Yra too?" You tilt your head in surprise, tail thrashing. Can things get blessed by the sun? That wouldn't make you feel quite so special. Not that you feel special at all! Nope, just a regular old Kobold pup. That can punch out a hatchet-wielding monstrosity and kill screaming zombies like it ain't no thing.

Djanna shakes her head, reaching out and picking up two different pieces and showing them to you. They're both really pretty. "Okay, so this one-" she holds up a ruby brooch, wrapped all over in gold and silver wire, "-glows really brightly, but this one-" in her other hand, the simple multifaceted crystal ball, "-barely even shimmers. I don't know why, but it's so... beautiful." She looks back down at the treasures in her hand, letting out the last word reverently.

"I think my dad talked a bit about that once. He said that every monster has a special power." Emma saunters over, taking a seat across the treasure from the both of you and looking closely at Djanna. "Maybe yours has something to do with treasure."

She shakes her head, but doesn't refute the possibility. Hey, that reminds you!

"Kitty, how old are you?" You ask, turning your attention to the cat. No, fox. Kitsooknee? ...kitty.

"I think... six months? Seven?" She puts a finger to her lips, thinking for a moment as her tails flick about.

"You can't remember again?" Djanna asks, looking up from her treasure. There's a tone in her voice you're not sure you like... like she doesn't like the kitty. Emma just raises her hands.

"I know how it sounds, but I really can't. I don't have a reason to lie to you." Djanna closes her hands tightly around the treasures she holds, and Emma lets out a short yip of a laugh. "Oh, come on! If I wanted to steal the treasure, I never would have brought it up for you to see in the first place."
>>
>>40262587
The dragon seems to accept this answer and nods, replacing them upon her small hoard. In the nearby, and growing closer, you hear a short hooting grunt. Emma's ears and yours perk up. That sounded a bit closer than you would like, and it makes the fur on the back of your neck stand up.

"I think we should go..." you say, rising quickly. Emma nods, likewise. Djanna remains seated, still poring over the treasure.

"You guys go on ahead..." She mutters. "I'll wait here."

A few minutes later, the treasure is packed away securely in your pack, and Djanna tromps forward at the head of the line, her cheeks flushed crimson in embarrassment. You walk on for the better part of the afternoon, and just around nightfall you break through the woods into a clearing about half the size of the one surrounding the tower. Seven standing stones encircle a large, flat patch of ground, and each stone is marked with a faded symbol that you can't quite make out. You don't feel anything... not at all like you thought it would be, anyway. Well, you don't know what you thought would happen, actually, but this isn't it!

Emma steps ahead into the circle of stones, running her hands over the pillars of granite curiously, and Djanna just paces about, looking all around the woods as though expecting attack.

You set camp inside the circle of stones, butted up against the largest pillar, a small campfire set before you. Soon enough, you're asleep, with Emma and Djanna curled up against you in the crooks of your arms.

You snap awake, rising slowly, alone. The sun and the moon both blaze in the sky overhead, the stars dancing madly in the sky. It's dark and light at the same time, and the air is hot and wild and still all at once. It makes your head hurt, and you're filled with a sense of abject horror. Wild jungle grows in the barren sand that surrounds the circle, the tops of the impossibly tall trees not even scraping the surface of the water you're all beneath. The wind howls in your ears and you feel a yipping, laughing madness rise in your throat, and-

You're alone in the circle, and nothing else besides it exists, yet it's bathed in a warm light from above. Far, far in the distance, you see the sun, and though it seems that it's far too dim to bring any heat, a gentle warmth suffuses your entire being. The air is still, and silent, save for a sort of scraping you recognize well: scale moving across scale. A pair of claws grip the edge of the circle, and a golden serpentine head framed by ruby whiskers rises over the edge, looking down at you with blazing eyes. It pulls back its lips, revealing razor-tipped teeth each easily twice your height. You whimper and pull back, the discordant images of the prior... you don't even know what you'd call it... leaving you timid and fearful.
>>
>>40263269
"Hey, no. No, that's not... C'mon, is everyone who comes to visit me going to react like this?" The dragon's voice is like the rumble and roar of the inferno, the pure blazing rage of the sun as it beats down on the desert. The tone is gentle, like gentle sunbeams nourishing plants, and the comfort of a gentle summer day. The dragon lowers its massive head, the fire in its eyes fading to be replaced by black with slitted golden pupils. "I wasn't trying to scare you, I swear! C'mon, no, don't cower..."

HELLO DRAGON I AM NADIA!
>>
>>40263286
Oh. Oh god. Your hips tremble, but not in fear. Your tail is wagging. Hard. Your heart is beating equally as much. The dragon lays its head on the edge of the disc and it's so... BIG!

You rush over and clamber up its nose, using the whiskers as handholds, before you're standing on the end of it's snout, squealing with delight as you bounce on the balls of your feet, eyes sparkling and hands clasped in front of your face. "OHMIGODAREALDRAGON! I mean, I know dragons, but you're... a DRAGON dragon! You're HUGE! I mean, HUGE-HUGE! Can I get huge like you!? Can you teach me!? Oh, I'm Nadia! It's nice to meet you! Hey, do you know Sylea? Or my sister Djanna? Are you related!? ...can I ride you?"

The dragon blinks slowly at you before throwing back it's head and giving a deep, roaring laugh. You barely cling to it's upper whiskers as you're thrown about with the creature's movements, the beast continuing to guffaw as massive tears you're fairly certain you could drown in roll down it's... cheeks? Do dragons shaped like this have cheeks? It reaches up and gently takes you in a claw, setting you back on the disc where you continue to wag.

"HAH! Oh, god, mortal... thank you! I haven't laughed like that in eons! Sorry, 'Nadia!' Oh, oh, I have to tell the other divinities about this! They'll be dying to meet you..."

"Divinities?" You tilt your head, wagging unabated. The dragon finally gets control over itself and leans down to address you again.

"Hold on, hold on. I have to fix something first." He closes his eyes, and from somewhere far, far away, you hear a cracking, rumbling sound. "There we go. The pathway has been opened again!"

"Pathway?" You're feeling more lost by the moment.

"Mm-hm. To the spirit realm. That shrine has been abandoned so long that it had been cut off from the..." He looks down at you appraisingly. "Er, nevermind. I think maybe that bit should remain need-to-know." You whine, but don't press it.
>>
>>40263702
"So what's your name?" You ask, barely able to keep the girlish squeal out of your voice. He laughs again, and lays a massive claw beside you, shifting down to lean on it so he may regard you from a closer vantage.

"Basic lesson when dealing with the immortals, child. Names have power, and none is going to give it to you just by asking. You may call me..." It taps a massive claw against its muzzle. "How about 'Tyrant?' That sounds impressive, right?"

"I wanna call you Goldy!"

This elicits another deep, roaring laugh from the beast as he shakes his head. "All right, for you? Goldy. But NOBODY ELSE CAN KNOW!" The sudden shift in tone, the snarl in his voice, and you're only too inclined to agree. Once your legs stop shaking, as a dragon this size even mildly irritated is a thing to fear, it resumes speaking.

"So, why are you here anyway? It's been a long, long time since the mortals paid us any mind." You briefly explain, and the dragon listens impassively. "Hmm... I don't exactly speak to He-Who-Burns directly, but I'll mention the situation. See if He won't throw a blessing or two your kin's way. I'm not promising anything, mind you, but I can at least do that." You smile brightly and your wagging begins anew. "So you're really just walking around to these shrines... because your daddy told you to."

You nod, something deep in your psyche telling you that's maybe a little insulting... like walking into a church and shouting "Yo, 'sup dawg" at the crucifix... whatever any of those words mean.

"Hmm... well, normally, I'd take a dim view of something so frivolous as a motivation for walking the lines, but it's been a long time since we've had a Voice. I mean, in deed and not just title." You whine at the comparison.

You whine and shake your head. "No!" The dragon blinks slowly as you stamp your foot, tail erect behind you. "I don't wanna be 'Voice'! My mama started calling herself that an' she got all scary! I don't like it! I don't wanna be mean to people... or... or be scary..."

Goldy inhales deeply, eyes widening almost imperceptibly. "Wow... you are just a kid, aren't ya. Jeez, Nadia, it's just a title. You can call yourself something else if you want, I guess..." He straightens up and pulls a scroll out of the aether around him, unfurling it and scanning through it while he mutters under his breath. "'High Lady'? Nobody would buy it. 'Highest of Highs'? Hah! 'Grand Poobah'? Sure, if you were a water buffalo..."

"What about the 'fist'? Or 'claw'? I'm good at those!" You walk to the edge of the disc and sit, your legs dangling out into non-existence. Goldy snaps the scroll shut and tosses it over his shoulder with a shrug.

"I guess? Oh, I know! Why not 'Seeker?'" You wrinkle your nose and shake your head. He frowns and crosses his arms over his chest. "It's got to be something at least marginally respectable. Otherwise people won't take you seriously, and that means They won't be taken seriously." He tilts his head this way and that, lost in thought, before he throws his hands up with a snort. Clouds billow out of his nose - not smoke, literal clouds. "Well, it doesn't have to be decided just yet. Not like you've been to all the shrines anyway."

You whine but nod. Makes as much sense as anything else, you guess. "Are you sure this is all okay? I'm... I'm just a Kobold... and a pup, too. Baltas said we're good for nothing but being adorable and 'getting trouble by the tail shitdamn'."

Goldy snorts with a grin and floats lower in the darkness, meeting you eye to gigantic eye. "I don't think you have anything to worry about. You'll grow into the role. I mean, you're already on a hero's path as it stands, and you've already rescued a couple damsels in distress."

No, you cannot worship Goldy instead of Yra. He has no capacity to grant miracles and your religious services would be hanging out and talking shit about the other divinities. Loudly. In their presence.

"You know why [NAME REDACTED] is such a pain in the tail?" "Nuh-uh, G- er, Tyrant. Why?" "Because she's always 'Loop-dee-doo, look at me, I live on the moon and look down on mortals!'"

You look at the dragon, whimpering softly as your tail trembles with indecision. You fret about running out of time, and there's so much you want to ask, and... and...

"Hey, hurry up! Sun's rising soon and you'll have to wake up."

This jolts you enough that everything seems to fall into place. You look down at the brands on your paws, letting your claws poke out. You look at the gleaming golden points for a long moment ("Mine'r bigger", Goldy mutters proudly) before you shake your head. "Down in the warrens, when papa was hurt an' sick, I did... somethin'. It made the burning in him go away, and he was better. His arm was still gone, but he was better. How did I do that?"

The dragon looks down at you from where he towers above, admiring his claws with a grin. "Huh? Oh, right, the healing." He puts his arm behind his back, cupping his other hand before his snout and coughing to clear his throat as he lowers to your level. "Well, that's kind of hard to explain in the time we have. Short-form, being able to do that is rare. Like, really rare. Like very, very few monsters are born with the ability. Hasn't been one for a few hundred years or more, I think. No, wait. Thousand. Time works differently here. I think. Anyway! The best thing I can tell you is to keep at it, and save it for an absolute necessity. The more Gods you find favor with - and don't worry, they all bluster about being the best god, but it's not true - th-" The sun overhead rumbles, growing brighter. Goldy looks toward it with a growl and glare. "You know it's true, quit playing!" The sun dims just a bit, but it's clear whatever it represents is still not happy. "Your power will get stronger. Still, keep it for emergencies or the humans are likely to hunt you down as... well, they're humans. They need an excuse?"
>>
>>40264749
You whine. Are humans really all that bad? The ones that traded with you seemed nice enough. Maybe Goldy knew better? Or was from a different time? You shake your head, ears flapping with a sad wag at the thought of people hurting monsterkind just because.

"Anyway, I can do this for you. Hold still, Nadia, I'm about to blow your mind wide open!" He lays a massive palm gently on the top of your head, and you feel bathed in warm radiance.

NADIA HAS ACQUIRED THE FOLLOWING ABILITIES:

SMITE LEVEL ONE
HEAL LEVEL ONE
CURE LEVEL ONE

You gasp, but can't seem to catch your breath! You inhale deeper, to the point where your lungs burn and feel as though they want to burst, and once Goldy removes his claw, all the air rushes out of you like a popped balloon. You hyperventilate, and the dragon lightly taps you on the back with his claw, threatening to knock you off the ledge until your breathing returns to normal and he pulls his hand back.

"Sorry. Effects everyone differently. Now, you should be able to heal people without passing out, but it's still going to take a lot out of you."

"And... and what about the... the other thing? The glowy punch?" You don't know how you know what you know, but you know you know it. You know?

"He-Who-Burns really, really liked seeing you take the zombie's head off. It's a reward of sorts. That one you should be able to do more easily, but still. Don't abuse it."

You nod, but that reminds you of the next thing you wanted to ask. "What about my claws? Why do they glow? Why did they burn the Czarina?"

"...we're going to have to start giving out blessings with instructions one of these days.

Okay, well, with each god's favor, you also gain a divine blessing. Since you're all energetic and stuff, I think He-Who-Burns knew you would be a fighter, and gave you a weapon to help against the things he hates. Monsters - real ones - that live in the depths, evil things, things that shouldn't be... you know. Your claws will hurt them really, really badly. Against other people though? Topside monsters? Just normal claws. I mean, they're still sharp and stuff - not as sharp as mine, of course - but don't think that He's going to just let you tear into whatever you like with His power."

Your tail wags as you look at your claws, then up at the dragons. "Then... how many gods are there? Will I get a different colored claw for each one?"

Goldy laughs and opens his mouth to answer, but the darkness around you pulses, and you hear something akin to snoring. "Okay, we have less time than I thought. All right, short answer: Each god's blessing will be different, and it'll probably be up to you to figure out what they do since the rest of the Divinities are kind of a bunch of tools who buy into the whole 'We are above mortal kind' bull that the old prophets liked to preach. Your blessings will be different, and no, I have no idea what they might be because I'm kind of not allowed to talk to them. Conflict of interest, you know?"

You nod vigorously. You haven't got a single clue.

"Anyway, it's time for us to part ways. Nadia, you're a sweet kid. My advice? Just relax, and take this journey as a life experience. It's going to be dangerous, and it's going to really suck at times, but everyone grows up sometimes, and a lot of people in this world live and die in view of their front door. Your dad, your aunt, your uncle, they're all adventurers. It's not in your blood, really, but it's in your soul. Embrace it, be brave, and when things look down remember that He-Who-Burns is the destroyer of the darkness, and that I'll believe in you if you believe in Him. Who believes in me. Eh, it all gets metaphysical at this p-"

You snap awake, Emma crouched over you, her ears flicking lightly. "I don't know. She may be dead, deep as she's sleeping."

After convincing your companions you are, indeed, not dead, you pack up and hit the road. A quick look back as you depart reveals that one of the pillars had cracked in the night, a long line running along the length of it down the center and hey, that kind of looks like your paw. They tell you that you'd been whimpering and talking in your sleep, and been fairly restless.

"Are you all right?" Djanna lays a hand on your head, pressing her forehead to yours in concern. Emma says nothing, simply riding quietly on your back and looking about, serving as an early warning system for danger. You shake your sister off, trying to sound aloof and cool.

"I'm fine. Must have just been a strange dream."

Your tail could launch you into the sky.

================================================

By the time you reach the towering walls of Dvotysk by nightfall, they've heard the story four times over. Emma is dubious, but Djanna knows you better, and Kobolds near-inability to lie. She takes a clear interest, asking questions mainly about Gol- er, "Tyrant" - than about the gods or their blessings, but all the same!

As you approach the road, you see small, squat buildings along the outer wall. Here and there, a young monster child runs between them, laughing or squealing in pursuit of some childish game. You chuckle to yourself. "I was like that once."

"A week ago." Emma quips. You blush and flatten your ears back.
>>
>>40265090
Though guards are posted, you're not disturbed as you pass into the city. Even so close to nightfall, the streets are busy, men and women milling about here and there, rushing home with cloth bags full of last-minute purchases, or leading petulant children home by tight grips on mitted hands. The people seem rough, coarse, as if carved from stone itself. The men all seem to wear beards past a certain height - or age, you don't know if the two are linked in humans the same as they are in monsters - and the women wear their hair long and loose. It's all kind of wonderful, in a strange sort of way. Like a gigantic open-air warren with free-standing caves! And it's all carved so prettily! A sudden, musical peal rings out from a large building pressed against the wall to the right of the southern gates, and you reach up to cover your ears as the volume of it causes you and Emma pain.

Djanna tugs at your arm, pressing close about you and looking all around with suspicion. A few people slow down to give you curious looks, and they put the dragon girl obviously ill at ease. She jerks her head to the left, and you tilt yours in confusion.

You nod and traipse along behind her, readjusting Emma on your back. As you do, you hear the tearing of a seam, and a few pieces of your plunder spill from the pack. You yip in surprise and set the girl down, crouching and stuffing them back into the pack. You hold it from both ends, whimpering and looking between Djanna and Emma, at a loss. Finally, Emma sighs and holds out her arms. "Give it here. I'll take care of it." You wag and hand over the bag, patting the kitty between the ears. She grumbles something you can't quite hear, but note the blush on her cheeks and the flicking of her tail tips. You set out, the tiny kit between the two of you, heading for the dock.

The city's splendor gives way slowly, from towering, stalwart stone to wood, and finally to what could barely be called shanties. They are mostly empty, with the winter coming, serving most likely as summer dwellings for visiting tradesmen and sailors along the coast. You think, anyway. You can't read the signs hanging from several of the doors, but you are suddenly aware of how empty the streets seem.

"Hey... hey, guys?" You whisper, looking down an alleyway. You'd heard the sound of soft footfalls on stone for a while now, and seen something out of the corner of your eye. "Why's that guy following us?" You point straight at the figure skulking in the shadows, and see the barest flash of white eyes before he just steps forward, clearing his throat.

"Ah, 'ow you say... hello, tiny monsters. My name, it is Bertrand, no? I am, 'ow you say, a trader. "You are zere... er... mozer, yez? Come, let us zpeak over here." He puts an arm around your shoulder, trying to lead you to the alley. You look over your shoulder to the other alley, two more individuals skulking in the dark. Djanna and Emma don't seem to have noticed, but they're both looking at Bertrand as though they smell something exceedingly foul.

You turn and wave vigorously to the men in the alley to your left. They look at one-another in confusion before looking back at you. You think you see a flash of metal, but dismiss it as you turn back to Bertrand. "Oh, you brought friends with you too? That's neat! Hey, I'm Nadia! It's nice to meet you! Do you live around here? Why's it so empty? Hey! Hey."

Bertrand looks extrememly flustered, sweating and tugging at the collar of his jacket as he regards you. "Er... yez?"

"Why do you talk funny?"

He glares at you with that, and quickly shoves you back, stepping away to roughly shove Emma to the ground, grabbing the bag with the other. "We are 'ad, gentlemen! Stall zem!"

He turns to run, Djanna quickly dropping to her knees and reaching out to help Emma up. The two men have stepped from the shadows of the alley, one armed with a rusty-looking dagger and the other with what looks like a table-leg. Their clothes are torn, and there's a gaunt cast to their faces. They look hungry. Desperate.

"You 'ave been nicked by Bertrand ze Swift, ze greatest sief in ze city!" You snarl and move to chase, but you hear Djanna cry out as a loud "THUNK" draws your attention. You turn in time to see the men standing over her, one pulling his club back for another blow, the other stabbing down at her. She turns her shoulder toward the men, laying over Emma protectively, and the blade glances across her scales harmlessly. They don't seem to have noticed you, focused on dealing with the dragon. "Gonna make a waller out yer hide..." the one with the club chuckles. You're... you're pretty sure his eyes are looking in opposite directions. The other one is thin and weasel-like, grinning like a madman as he licks the rusty dagger, taking careful aim at the dragon girl.

Just to put it out there, and I'm not saying I endorse this in the least, but there's nothing in the world but the character's own sentiment forcing you to travel together. Djanna has the capacity to do... well, something good, maybe... but clearly she's laboring under some kind of curse. Hex. Thing.

"Kekeke... I love it when they cry..." Weasel cackles, pulling back to strike again at Djanna. You snarl and lunge forward, raking your claws up along his back, through the rotten leather of his jacket and into his flesh. He howls in pain and tries to tug away, tearing his skin off of your claws and whirling, eyes wide and full of terror. Tears sting his eyes, from pain or fear you're not sure you care. You smell the coppery stink of gore, and something pounds in your chest, your temples throbbing. Your claws don't seem to glow, but at the very least you have his attention now. Wait, what's he... he dropped the dagger.

"Okay, hey, listen... working for that rat bastard ain't worth gettin' kilt over. Ya wan' me gone? Ah'm gone. Ahkay? C'mon, Ma- MATTY, NO!"

You hear a semi-feral shout, and the sound of a table leg snapping. You look back at the other man, and see froth on his lips. His pupils have grown small, and blood flows from his nose. "NU! NU HURT MAH BRUVAH!"

MATTHIAS HAS FRENZIED

You take a couple steps forward and take hold of Djanna's arm. The dragon practically merges with you as she presses against your side, shivering and whimpering softly. The huge man - Matty - takes a step toward you with a guttural shout, reaching out before Weasel limps in front of him.

"Matty! Matty, listen to me bruv. We've copped it, a'ight? Bertie ran off with the loot, an' 'es probs gonna cut us out. There ain't no more reason ter fight, a'ight?" The giant man looks at his brother, uncomprehending, as he continues to drool, blood dripping from his nose. A bruise has begun to form from chin to forehead, deep and angry purple. Slowly the larger man starts to sniffle, bubbles blowing through the blood as he starts sobbing.

"Ah hurt mah head..."

"Ah know, Matty. Ah know..." Weasel winces as the big man grabs hold of him, flopping down on his rump in the street and crying as he holds his brother close. Blood drips down the back of Weasel's ruined coat, and you're aware of the drying gore on your own paws. You feel a little... you're not sure how. You could have killed him, really. Really, really easily. But the cowering dragon girl against your side makes your decision feel a little better, but still. You hear a thunderous snort as Ox blows his nose.

"C'mon, bruv. Let's get you to the doc. He'll look at that nasty bruise on your face... and mebbe keep me from bleedin' out."

"Hold it!" you yell at them. They don't stop until Emma reappears several feet ahead of them, a dagger in one hand, and a writhing ball of flame in the other, her eyes narrowed. Okay, yeah, that's a bit impressive. Weasel sighs and turns slowly. He's grown really, really pale. "Listen, ah'm not gonna be able ter stand much longer. Kin we please jes' let bygones be by-"

"You tried to kill us. Eat rocks." Emma deadpans.

Weasel nods slowly, weaving on his feet a bit. "Tha's fair. Whatcher need?"

"Your friend-"

"'Employer,' luv. Men wots like us ain't gots friends."

"Whatever he is. Where'd he go? He took Djanna's shiny stuff." You growl softly, tail swishing in irritation.

An older greenskin name o' Garush. If'n yer hurry - an fer th' love o' th' gods, let us go - yer might be ables ta intercept him, like." He gave a brief, simple description of where to find Garush: An old warehouse converted into a sailor's bunkhouse that he operated. "'es got a bit er a temper on 'im, though, so best ter steer clear. Them greenskins kin get real mean-like, y'know. Monsters an'-" He looks to you, then Djanna, then across his shoulder to Emma. "Er, no offense, girls. Ye... ye lot are girls, wot?"

"Bruv, ya sound sleepy. Time fer nighty-night?" Ox drawls, looking down at weasel. You don't know why you didn't notice before, but he looks sort of misshapen. His proportions are a bit off in all the wrong places, his head's a bit irregular, and you can't quite put your nose on it, but something about him doesn't smell human.

"No, Matty, no. Think yer gonna have ter carry me to that doc, though. Kin we go, please? Again, we didn't mean no hard feelin's er nothin'. Were just business..."

You whimper for a moment, but not in indecision. These men are injured, and you can do something about it! You bound forward, Djanna reaching after you with a cry of "Wait!", and you grab hold of Weasels face in both paws. You stare into his eyes, and you feel the familiar warmth and glow fill your being as your paws begin to shine like the sun. Weasel's eyes widen and he tries to jerk away, Ox grunting and trying to separate the two of you, but he can't touch you. The light grows more intense in the darkness, and here and there you hear confused voices and the opening of windows.

Almost as soon as it began, it's over, and Weasel stands before you sturdily, You quickly circle him, tail wagging, and pull aside the ruin of his coat. His skin is whole and unblemished, though he still looks a bit pale, though probably from shock more so than anything else. Even Ox reaches up to his nose, poking at it experimentally, before he breaks out into a nearly-toothless grin.

"Bruv! Bruv! Da shiney puppy made mah nose bettah!"

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?" Emma runs over and grabs hold of your wrist with the hand holding the glowing ball of flame, the heatless red light dispersing as soon as it contacts your body. "Djanna, we need to go! Now!" The dragon girl nods and scrambles upright, coming to your side as the fox tries to drag you along the street. You hear booted footsteps along the street ahead of you, and behind, and Emma curses. Her tails flick about in frustration as she looks all about.

That's when you feel yourself picked up by the scruff of your neck and gathered into a pair of massive arms like an infant.

"C'mon, luvs. Follow ol' Toby an' he'll take yers to someplace safe-like." Djanna hisses softly, eyes narrowing, and Emma looks ready to claw his eyes out.

That could be part of it, it could be that they'd be angry that monsters are getting the attention of the gods to the point where they're willing to intercede, could be that they're afraid of monsters getting even stronger than they are. Could be they don't really care, too, but given the fact what is essentially the Demigod of Fucking About told you to be worried, odds are repercussions would lean toward the negative.
