You're supposed to be sleeping, so the inside of the shuttle - or at least the section where the new "recruits" are being held - is dark. You're lying back on the metal floor, a cramped space that six of you are making the best of - some toss and turn, but only you are awake. You can feel the warmth of the ship beneath you, a low hum, and now you have a name for the power that you feel flowing around you like the heartbeat of the Galaxy - the dark man who took you here said that you were strong in the Force. Since childhood, the Force has been in you, like a low whisper rising from wherever life could be found. Now, as your shuttle approaches an unknown destination, the Force is tinged with strength and darkness.
You know you'll be arriving soon. You know that you will face tests and pass them or die. You've seen what happened to the one who tried to run. All you've heard of the Sith are dark legends, whispered stories - but when the shuttle door opens, your dark legend will begin.
When the lights flicker on, what will the other people in the shuttle see? Who are you?

>[ ] A male human, lean and wiry, whose eyes are haunted by some horror from your past.
>[ ] A male Dathomirian, once a Nightbrother. You were raised for this, and will become Sith to honor your matron.
> [ ] A female Chiss whose hair is cut short, in a masculine style. You have a scar on your lip from a nasty cantina brawl.

Welcome to Sith Academy Quest! This quest is unaffiliated with any previous Sith related quests. The first command to receive three votes, or the majority, wins. Death is possible with stupid decisions or horrifying luck and user dice rolls will be used to determine combat results (An average of the first three rolls barring a critical success or failure). May the Force be with you!

Your drifting between sleep and waking torpor is interrupted by the telltale turbulence of a ship landing and a harsh flood of light.

"Out! All of you!"

Stumbling out of the shuttle at the insistence of the robed figure, you find yourself greeted by the unwelcome sunlight of a planet in the middle of the day. The sand is red beneath your feet and the harsh wind whips it up into your eyes. A brief glance upwards reveals a large stoney pyramid looming in the distance, and several ships docking nearby, each bearing their own load of passengers. Humans, Twi'leks, and stranger things still. When the Sith had offered to take you away, to turn you into a guard suitable for the Matron herself, you could hardly believe it - but in a place like this, with the power of the Sith evident in the towering crypts and pyramids dotting the landscape, you could start to believe that a maleling like yourself could be as strong as a Nightsister.

"Listen, scum!" a figure shouts. He's dressed in an outfit of black cloth that leaves no skin uncovered, with a pair of opaque, red goggles that fail to disguise a glare. "Some of you will have the honor of being Sith. The rest of you will die or wish you were dead." He paused to let this sink in, a gesture of intimidation. "You will travel through the tunnels of this temple, going in one at a time, five minutes apart. If you emerge from the exit, you will report to the Sith Master at the academy to begin your training. If not... well, the sands of Moraband are dyed red with the blood of the weak." He points directly at you, and all eyes turn towards you. "You! Arm yourself with a vibrosword and head in before I kill you myself!"

This is like the fourth time we've had a Sith Academy quest.

The first 2 weren't all that great, and ended in death, the third was good despite a bit of harem waifu shit creeping in towards the end (Then the QM became kill.), and this one is up in the air.

Not a stellar track record, friendo, but I'll be rooting for you. Be unique at least.

You rush into the tomb. The walls are carved with images that tell a story - Jedi - a hated foe of your clan, and the coven that controlled it - from an ancient world casting people out, only for the exiles to build an empire on what was supposed to be their grave. The cool, dark of the tomb is a welcome change from the harsh heat of outside. You have five minutes before the next acolyte comes in. Do you...

As you go deeper, you feel like you're travelling to the heart of the world, but instinct (Or the Force?) tells you that this is barely scratching the surface of this planet's mysteries. You follow the wall that had been telling the history of the Sith, but you can't read the ribbons of Sith hieroglyphs that decorate the images that you have increasing difficulty understanding. Leaders rise and fall, Sith betray and are betrayed. Gradually, you come to a large section that appears to have been broken off, defaced, near a fork in the path, a Dark Lord carved from history.

The passages are like a maze. You try to imagine the Old Sith wandering these halls, lost in thought. Maybe just lost. A trail of dust indicates that the defaced passage was taken to the left. A path to the right seems to have some light coming from a great distance.

You leave the past to the past and follow the light. It feels almost like you're getting farther from where you need to be, each step letting the light slip away from you even more.

"Who are you?" asks a dusty voice.

You open your mouth to answer but you hear skittering on stone behind you. A gelatinous shape is bearing down on you from the hallway with a low hiss, skittering on insectoid legs. You saw it in the hallway engraving, but despite the best efforts of the artist, it didn't capture a fraction of how horrifying the thing is. You have a few seconds to raise your weapons and steel your nerves before it's on you.

>You roll out of the way, slipping behind the beast. (>30)
>You lash out at the beast with all your hatred. (40+)
>You call on the Force to strike it. (50+)
>You conjure a volley of Force Lightning to boil that gelatinous scum (>60).

--------------------------------------------------------------

For combat, roll 1d100 unmodified. The majority of success or failure out of the first two or three will determine whether or not you succeed. Criticals (>94 or <6) will override this if they are in the first three. Please refrain from rolling until the action is selected.

>Congratulations, Critical Failure!

Dodge rolls were not part of your training. Your training included subservience to the Nightsisters in all regards. When they found out you were to be Sith - a potentially potent ally - they taught you how to read. You hurl yourself face first into what you later would learn is called a k'lor'slug. You feel your horns glance of its hide and skid, bruised onto the floor. Offworlders, before learning that they're just tired workers, find Nightbrothers intimidating but you look anything but sprawled out on the ground. The pillar of mandibles and twitching feelers looms over you, it's claws having scored several cuts in your skin on the way down. In a split-second decision you:

"Hmm, interesting." The voice says echoing down from the top of the hall. Come up so an old man can look upon your face. Don't fear the dark - it's the true home of any Sith." There's a pregnant silence. "But I suppose that you are not Sith, are you?"

Stepping up the halls, heart still beating fast, you come into a darkened chamber. You see the remains of a campfire smoldering in one corner, and a hooded figure sitting on a central coffin. A grey hood obscures his figure, but the way he carries himself makes his age obvious - he's been alive for a long time.

"You're right. I'm not Sith." you say. "But I will be."

"Will you? Many come into the tomb with that same thought, yes - to be Sith. It is a great thing to strive for."

A scream echoes from the tomb, a cry for help from the distance.

"Striving and achieving are very different, though. Only one has meaning. But I can smell the blood on you. You have taken a step in the right direction. A hesitant first one, albeit, but it is more than most in this galaxy will ever take. Do you have the strength to kill me?" He looks up at you, his eyes glowing yellow with the Dark Side. "I was Sith. Now I pass judgement on those that travel through here. I relish it."

He gestures towards the west wall and two torches flicker to life in their sconces, casting light on a large door.

"This is the maze of trials. Your mind tells me that you are not blind to what the Sith are, and those that do not know are learning. Or dying. You know what Sith are, yes, but what makes them Sith? What is the true meaning of that order? If you have no answer, you can stay with me, and learn something of the Dark Side."

The stories say Sith are marauders and perverts who seek power above all else, the mortal enemy of the Jedi. Yet others say Sith are those who seek freedom and independence from all things.

Neither of those are my answer, as I don't have an answer of my own.

Your mind drifts to the images you have seen, carved on the walls. Empires rising, armies marching, relics and riches, men who could kill with a glance.

"Everyone wants something. The Sith have the will to seek it and the power to take it. The ashes of my father and the temples of my gods are meaningless unless I do this. Unless I live my own life for myself, not for any matron."

You open your mouth to reply, but the man is gone, with not so much as a movement. You turn and another acolyte hopeful is with you - you recognize her from your ship, a short haired Chiss. It's hard to tell from a distance, but she's a girl.

"We should both give our blood to the door."

The chiss looks at you, tilting her head. Then she shrugs.

"Beats killing you, I guess. Back on Nar Shadda, they always said that it's good to have a friend in an unfriendly place."

You extend your hand and rest it on her blade. She does the same with yours, and you cut yourselves at the same moment. Neither of you stop pointing your swords at each other though. You press your hand to the door, and she flicks her wrist, spattering the grim portal with blood.

The door swings open. You hear the sound of wind and the movement of sand outside, and can see light. Sunlight, no less.

The chiss turns towards you. "You just know that if one of us goes first, they're getting stabbed in the back. Wanna do what they did before? With the five minutes wait and all?"

She's right. A friend in an unfriendly place is what we need.

If she's smart, give her an idea of what's going to happen, then proceed to >>40244857, but reasonably.

"Jakdal. Jakdal Zul." The guardsman makes note of this on a holopad.

"Go ahead and head to student barracks four. First come, first served on the bunks. Also, you aren't allowed to kill a fellow student in the academy, except in self defense. And before you get any clever ideas, a Sith Master has heard those lies a million times before." The guard makes note of your cuts, stains, and the large splotch of blood on you. He nods approvingly. "Uniforms are provided. You'll have a couple hours to rest before the big assembly. Good luck, kid."

Seen from the inside, the academy is a world of opposites - you have the obviously ancient structures, and the modern upgrades built into it for convenience. The old and new mingle in a chaotic sort of beauty.

Your new uniform is red, a dull wine color. It's clean and stiff, and it will work for your purposes. Eight students can bunk in barracks four, which is one of ten barracks. It appears two students have already claimed a bunk and are enjoying a conversation, a human and a Ithorian, both male. Newly changed into her uniform, a familiar face walks in and locks eyes with you, a glare on her face.

"Hey, you've got a lot of-"

You're sure she was saying something uninteresting, but since you stepped around her and walked away, you can't honestly be sure. She doesn't seem to be in the mood to do anything other than lie on the bed, though, so that's one less bother.

You hear a lot of talking going on around the Academy - a new harvest is a big thing. Talk about "The big meeting", "Fresh meat", and an important visitor is all in the hallways. You follow the winding stairs to find a library - various texts are available in the form of holopads or bundles of printed paper with some ancient texts and holocrons restricted to full Sith. The texts that are available though hold some interesting things.

we can talk to her later after the great assembly or whatever. Our impression of it may well be a good conversation opener.
Also we should try to see how the order in this academy is. Are there groups of "friends" ? or is this all about domination?

I love how you're assuming that everyone has to care that this particular person is a girl.
And good luck finding a non-sith in a sith academy. We'll just have to judge character of potentials. This one was at least ready to cut herself rather than attack us there and then.

> The Sith Code
... though the first and second precepts must be grasped by all Sith, it is Gand's observation that many fail to grasp the third precept: "Through strength, power." True power comes not only from your fist, but also the open hand - a Sith does not just destroy, but rules. Through this...

>Histories of the Ancient Sith

...Although it is disputed by some, the New Sith generally regard the exclusivity of the Old Sith as a great weakness - a large group of Sith can exist if the weak are actively weeded out and a strong central body controls it. The Old Sith ended when the Jedi slew both Darth Sidious and Darth Vader on their own space station. (Some historians dispute that Vader fell to the light, but this is simply hearsay.)

>Regarding Jedi

Darth Trovus argues that the Jedi have a unity that the Sith must strive for in his seminal "Hierarchy of the Old Ones", but this unity is founded in the lie of the light side. As passive entities, the Jedi bow to the force. View them not as agents of their own will, but as conduits for the Light Side. Any Jedi that behaves willfully is susceptible to being turned.

"The Force is in all Sith, but the Sith Sorcerers truly understand how to make the force bow to them..."

The passage describes several ancient Sith Sorcerers and the qualities required to understand the power of Sith spells. Namely, "A will of cortosis and an eye that can stare unflinchingly into the spasming nether."

"...the power to alter the mind of another being is founded in an understanding of all life as facets of the Force - if your thoughts are yours, they are of the Force, and the barrier between your mind and the mind of another is thin indeed. If the mind is not strong enough to flow against your connection to the Force, then it will bend and they will be yours..."

You gather in a large cluster of Acolytes towards the center of the main chamber of the Academy. The students and Sith Masters are apart from you, but also on the ground floor. Hooded and armored figures gaze out at you from a raised balcony, their eyes judging. Your bunkmate, while hurrying, introduces himself as Fynn.

"It's them!" he said in an excited whisper. "The Sith Lords are here!"

The central figure raises their hand, and silence reigns.

"Acolytes - you have been given the privilege of coming to the hallowed world of Moraband for the opportunity to become Sith. I am Darth Lucent." Her voice is feminine and cold. "You will train with the Sith Masters of this Academy, and follow their instructions to the letter. You will be an apprentice to a Lord of the Sith, or a trooper in the armies of the Sith. Or you will die, and be forgotten. Eight of you will be selected as apprentices." A low murmur goes through the crowd.

"So few?" Fynn says.

"So many?" says an Apprentice.

Lucent continues. "If you prove your strength, but do not catch a Lord's eye, then you will complete your education and serve the Sith as soldiers and assassins. Failure's punishment is obvious. You have come too far to step back, Acolytes. Your instructors will inform you of your trials." Lucent and the other Lords turn around and leave, and the crowd disperses.

You step away, and Fynn appears to be following several steps behind you. You suspect something nefarious is afoot, but you then realize that he's lost. Your barrack's Sith Master is a tall male Kel Dor whose breathing mask is in the shape of a fanged maw - he dresses in standard instructor's robes, red with a white trim.

"The Sith believe in self-reliance. I will be providing lessons in combat forms and will answer basic questions regarding the nature of the Force, but knowledge of this is all throughout the Academy for the taking. Find pain and hate, foster it in yourself, let it drive you. When your hate overcomes your fear, when your fear overcomes your love, that is when you will truly be immersed in the Dark Side."

Fynn listens to this intently.

"When your mind is quiet, you can hear the thrum of the Force like the heartbeat of the stars... especially in places like this. That's enough knowledge shared today. Meditate on it. Use it."

I just realized I forgot to prompt. Well, nyo~ron.

You continue out to the tombs. Fynn travels slightly to the front, Telza walks lockstep with you. Fynn seems to be rambling about things he's studied in the library.

"You see, you can't make Force Lightning unless you've been subjected to it, yourself. I mean, you can make a sort of purplish facsimile, but it's not the real deal - you need to have experienced the intense pain to visualize it properly."

"Wait." Telza says. "The entrance to the new section is here."

The new section's entrance is like a pit in the ground, a hole where it fell away due to a groundquake or something.

"It looks like we aren't the first in." she says.

"At the best, they'll disarm a few traps and die." says Fynn.

"Things are never 'at the best'." says Telza.

"Not with an attitude like that."

"How did the first Sith make it then? That's an unsound theory."

"Interesting question! Some say they were struck by lightning, but from what I've found, the pain you visualize doesn't have to be from Force Lightning. They probably suffered greatly, and let it out on others in that form."

"You go in first, Fynn."

"Somehow, I expected this."

Fynn fastens the rope securely to a stone pillar and uses it to aid his descent. He disappears from sight, but a few minutes later, the rope has two sharp tugs on it, and you know it's safe to descend.

The tomb is cooler than the hot air - it almost seems cold now. There's also an unusual dampness to it, water dripping from the ceiling. You travel along the path far enough for the light to fade away. Oddly enough, all of your eyes seem to adjust well to the dark - maybe the Force is already changing you.

"You're the mastermind here, pinhead. What now?" Telza asks.

This. Look for traces for the other groups.

"Now, before we start betraying each other, lets remember that rival groups are here and they will kill a pair of students no problem. Lets check for tracks or signs of their progress."

"Okay - there are rival students in here. We can't afford to fight each other and them. So until we get back to this rope - everyone is necessary. You hear me?" Fynn nods and Telza does too, albeit sulkily.

"Fynn, did you read about this tomb?"

"I know Marka Ragnos was one of the Sith before the Old Sith. He was ancient and powerful. Also, he went down in history as a half-breed."

Telza glances at him. "Nice work, but that doesn't help us at all."

Searching the area, you find passageways going East, West, and North. There are traces of passage a while ago East, and much heavier traces going North. The tomb thrums with darkness.

The western corridor slopes downwards - your band is travelling deeper and lower than even the other tomb. What was being hidden? The damp increases, forming puddles on the floor. Then, you hear the telltale click of a pressure plate beneath someone's feet.

"Fynn -" Telza says angrily.

"Telza-" Fynn says with a look of accusation.

"Guys." You say. "The ceiling's getting lower."

Ah what the hell.
What's the worst that could happen?
>>
>>40250846
We have to choose being crushed or downing because the lower levels are completely flooded. Or you know we could always go back instead of forwards.

Voting for this, I guess.

This thread will be deleted any second, OP

I like it how we will apparently betray them 5minutes after telling then about the whole "no betrayal" thing.

>>40250614

Actually, things seem to be slowing down - a lot, this time. A new thread will start tomorrow, and Sith Academy Quest will continue.

Not sure about this archive thing (bit of a newfag) so I copypasted the thread into a Google Drive document.

Nope - I'm going to have a copypasta to put at the start of new threads so you can see a summary and the old threads though.
