You are Clarissa, a high-school student, Substitute Shinigami, violent murderer, and... some other things you don't really understand yet. Every real Shinigami you ask about those things seems to just look at you strangely and shake their head in confusion.

Even someone with a title as important sounding as 'The 12th Division Captain'. And that same captain, Urahara Kisuke, had instigated a situation in which you were forced to rely on your special ability for survival. Perhaps he was hoping to figure something out from the demonstration, but unfortunately for him and you, he hasn't. He just made you take a pointless risk. The man was only able to confirm that you are, in fact, very unusual.

You've figured that much. Didn't need a freaking scientist to point it out for you.

...This guy really is a scientist, isn't he? 12th Division, he said? Didn't Kimiko mention something about that? That's the thing that nutbag Mayuri used to be in charge of, isn't it? Well, he's not trying to cut your shit just because you've looked at him in a way he doesn't like, so maybe he's... not as bad.

"...What do you know about the local Shinigami, Urahara Kisuke?" You decide to speak up, the expectant silence growing awkward and weary. He's letting you get away with thinking your reply through and doesn't try to hurry you, not even with something as subtle as a change in his polite expression. And that's really something you can't help but appreciate.

Kimiko is missing. She was supposed to ditch all of her Shinigami work and live with you, but the sudden appearance of her colleagues is messing everything up. You don't know what you can say to them in order to not cause her trouble or make them suspicious of her so early on. It seems that Urahara is completely oblivious to what's really going on here, though, and that's good. If you can figure out something believable about how you came to be a Shinigami, he might lay off and leave you alone.

He cocks his head to the side, thinking for a bit before replying. "Not much. I know what she looks like, her name, and a tiny bit about her. Unfortunately, she's not part of my Division, so we've never had a chance to get to know each other." He smiles a bit.

...You feel like you could give just about anything right now for even a verbal description of her. Damn it. You want to get this over with already and find her.

"Have you met her, young lady?"

What a troublesome question. It feels like no matter what your answer is, none of them will help the situation.

...

"I... know that she's out there somewhere, but I've never met her."

Urahara's eyes widen a bit. The corners of his mouth are pointing slightly upwards in what looks like a poorly repressed smile. "I see. So you work on your own?" He doesn't believe you one bit, does he? "I don't see a badge on you anywhere, so you do not appear to be affiliated with Soul Society. It's not unheard of for such persons to exist, though, young lady."

...Is he just messing around with you?

"...Yeah. I... I'm not with Soul Society. I just happened to be passing by, and... noticed a lot of Hollows cropping up. I... I mean, someone needs to help, right?" You wish you could quit pausing after every freaking word. Even a monkey could probably figure that you're shamelessly lying your ass off.

The man nods, though. "I see. Commendable. The world is always in need of people willing to stand up for the weak. In this case, for the world's innocent souls..."

You gulp as he trails off, having said practically nothing at all. The conversation is driving you mad. It's agonizingly slow and making you paranoid. You're hesitant to say anything, not before dissecting every word for all the potential consequences they might carry. You know that you should just lie your way out of it, but you're not that good of a liar, and you're basically shooting in the dark with every single statement.

"It does make me wonder how you've gotten those powers of yours, however, young lady."

...Shit. Just... think of something, Clarissa.

"I... met a mad scientist."

His eyes widen a bit more, but the slight smile is gone. Whatever playfulness he had in his behavior quickly froze over as he seems to slowly understand the implication of what you just made up.

"Pardon?" He mutters. Probably not so that you can elaborate, but so that you can prove you're not just making it up on the spot to cover yourself.

You've... really thought up of something clever, huh? You're not even really lying, you're just talking about something else entirely; something that's apparently more important than your own bizarre background.

"There's... this crazy man in town. Kurotsuchi Mayuri, I think was his name. In, like, weird paint and all? I stumbled into him one day, and he sort of... well..." You point at your black uniform.

The casual notes have dropped out of Urahara Kisuke's speech completely. "I need to investigate this right away. Do you know where that man might be, young lady?"

Well... Mayuri did seem like nothing but danger. Helpful, perhaps, but maybe not enough to warrant the risk, so it's probably a good thing there's someone around who can take care of him for you... or something. Kurotsuchi's a criminal, and this guy's like an officer, right?.. And besides all that, this is apparently the perfect excuse to make him lay off with the questions.

You don't know if telling him the exact location is going to make him forget about you completely, out of gratitude or achievement, or whatever else... or if you want him to wander around for a while to maybe keep him off your back for as long as possible.

...And what if that fucking psycho finds out that you've snitched on him and tries to do something bad? Maybe it'd be safer to let the professional take care of all of this without getting too deeply involved? Man, there seem to be a lot of small, vague reasons you don't want to tell Kisuke the precise location. You're probably just... a little scared of the swordwielding maniac in makeup.

>>40240566
Kimiko is the scrub that took over for those other scrubs that were looking after Karakura town, she jobbed to a hollow and gave us Shinigami powers which consist of making ALL THE SWORDS, our Ishida is a chick and isn't an asshole, and at the end of Kimiko's one week stay we came to an agreement to stick together.

Now she's missing, and we met Urahara, and beat a Gillian and where the fuck is everyone and jesus it's a Captain tell him all of the lies deflect deflect.
>>
>>40240566
Pre-quest: MC killed gf under unknown circumstances. Quest starts by shoving injured shinigami into dedicated gf body. Week of helping with hollow hunt ensues. At the end Mc fights extra-assholish hollow, goes kinda crazy, starts obsessive relationship with the ghost in dead gf's body. Said shinigami disappears, Mc freaks out, big face-off hollow appears as we're about to search for her and this dude forces us to fight it. That's the key events I think.

So, the most important questions on my mind are:

Are we playing as female GArcher?

Who was looking over Karakura Town prior to us?

So, a shinigami is currently using our girlfriend's body as a 'gigai'?

Did we win the fight with the 'big face-off hollow'?

Also, does 'big face-hollow' mean arrancar?

Also, thanks guys.

"I'm not sure. The last place I last had contact with him seems to have been ditched. I guess he's hiding from you guys."

The Shinigami nods. "Tell me where that place is, and I'll look into it, young lady."

You hesitantly nod as well. 'Young lady' is kind of getting on your nerves, but you're not sure about introducing yourself. Your name is... very unique for these parts, after all. Might make it easier to find you if he finds the need. Maybe you're just being paranoid, though.

You give him directions to the... the Kurotsuchi shop. You're not going to lead him there, obviously, and it doesn't appear that he expects you to do that. After you've finished your explanation, he nods again, apparently about to take his leave. He stops, almost catching you at a relieved sigh.

"And young lady, could I ask you for one more thing?"

You don't answer him, letting the silence urge him on.

"I'll be doing my best to learn more about your abilities from this moment on. Under no circumstances should you continue using them. There might be more underlying consequences to it besides your reiatsu leaping to dangerous levels. Do you understand?"

You... nod. The Captain seems satisfied with that response. He turns away and disappears in a blur, a single trained step taking him out of your sight.

Air finally gets to leave your lungs, the tension flushing out along with it. He's finally gone. Jesus Christ, you're a genius. You haven't told him a thing about Kimiko and lied your ass off all the way to (almost) flawless success. You really hope none of this is going to come back to bite you, somehow. It's a shame there was no good chance to ask about the girl, but at least you're keeping her safe.

...That warning of his sounded ominous.

You need it to protect her

You can tell that it's dangerous; you really didn't need anyone to spell it out for you. It'd be great if you could manage without it, but it seems that you're rarely given a choice in the matter.

Rather than completely avoiding its use, it'll be better to learn how to keep it in check and under control. You... don't even know where to begin with that, honestly. It's been working largely of its own accord, emerging whenever you needed it. That's sort of convenient and all, but you need it to be more reliable. You can't be relying on luck alone to keep people safe; to keep her safe.

You've promised Kimiko safety. You've promised to give her a life she's never had, and not as Aiko, but as herself. This is the only way - through you and your strength. This is not just about keeping your word. She's important to you. You've never seen her, but that means nothing. You know what she's like, and that's the only thing that matters.

You'll never let her come to harm. She's yours, and you won't let anyone take her away from you. You need to find her.

...

Down below, you spot Naoko waving you over. You come down, briskly walking on air. She asks you about what happened, and you give her a brief summary. The girl slowly nods. Her eyes keep wandering over to the place on which the massive Menos Grande had once lied before dissolving into nothing during its purification. You pushed it down and then cleansed its hideous face in a rain of spiritual steel.

She looks... impressed, you think. You give her a smile, from which she immediately looks away, and your smirk turns into a chuckle.

Jokes aside, there's something you should be doing right now.

"Where the heck is Chap- I mean, where's my body?" You ask her, and Naoko points at some alleyway.

"Hiding behind that trashcan."

(1/2)
>>
>>40242140
You head on over to the shivering, terrified rabbit wearing your own body. ...It's probably good that Chappy is being so careful with you, but... this feels kind of humiliating in a way. You walk over and assume your rightful place back underneath your flesh, the so-called Soul Candy popping out through your chest.

We don't actually know where she is. We were looking for her. This is the 'I hope this will solve itself' option basically.
>>
>>40242431
I'm not a big fan of 'Let's wander and hope we happen across her'. Kimiko knows where we'll go at night/wait for her.

She can't really risk trying to contact us as we zip about Karakura Town if she's also scared the Shinigami will notice her.
>>
>>40242525
Well I doubt they are monitoring our phone, if we can use it anyway. And what if she's hurt or captured or or or!
>>
>>40242577
They might not be monitoring our phone, but we can also receive phone calls at home. We can also assume it's far less compromising a position as anywhere else.

The Shinigami can totally monitor us unnoticed in a McDonalds. Not so much in our own bedroom. They'd have to be invisible, hiding their spiritual energy and we'd have to be half blind on top of that to never notice them.

"She's... probably just hiding from the Shinigami. It's probably best that we wait for her to return home."

Naoko quietly nods again. The girl is usually always quiet and not talkative, but something feels kind of... off about her right now. The silence on her part is making you uncomfortable. It feels just like before you've gotten to know each other more, when she was constantly giving off the expression of being a cold person.

"...D-do you think that's alright, Naoko?"

Her eyes widen a bit, as if in surprise, like she doesn't understand why you're asking her. "Yes, Clarissa."

...A cut-and-dry reply, as usual. Well, you don't really know what you're expecting her to tell you about your choice. It's not really wrong, in a sense. You turn away, gathering your mouth into a thoughtful half-frown. ...Is this really the best solution? Just... wait? Will you even have the patience for that? Damn it.

"Clarissa," Naoko speaks up to your surprise, probably noticing your tense fidgeting. "Is everything okay?"

"No. No it's not, Naoko." You flick out your phone and punch in Kimiko's number. The call times out after a while. No voice mail. No change from last time. Nothing new. "...I should tell Ren about everything's that's been happening. Can't fucking stand this..."

"Are you sure?" The other girl seems to protest, and you look at her questionably. It might be just you, but you think she faltered slightly under your glare. "She... she's learned about spirits only recently, right? This might be too dangerous for her."

Hollows are a lot hardier than your average human, and damaging a hollow's mask/face is not enough to kill it. You actually have to go THROUGH. Similarly, you don't have go through the head to kill most hollows; it's just a lot easier since they can be really hard to kill otherwise.

"...Hey. You feeling okay over there, Ren?"

"I... was feeling a bit crappy when I woke up, so I just..." You hear the rustling of bed sheets; must have actually been sleeping before you called. "OH MY GOD, IT'S SO LATE ALREADY!" You move the phone a bit further away from your ear.

"It's like... four, Ren. No big deal, chill out. Look, I need to-..."

"I slept through the freaking weekend, Clarissa! So much time just... just gone!"

...It hasn't been that long since you've experienced something similar.

It is a little strange, though. Usually, you're all long awake by now and dragged out onto the streets whether you like it or not. Akemi's too hyperactive to sleep for more than six hours even during a day off, and like a freaking child, she never lets anyone sleep for much longer than that. Probably just doesn't have the patience for it. Well, never isn't really the word nowadays, since you've all adapted and learned to counter her alarm clock tendencies.

...Basically, the point is, the absence of that is unusual.

"Look, Ren, we need to talk. I-... I can hear you getting dressed, you know. Stop and sit down for a-... Are you listening? Sit down for a while, would you? It's important."

When the red haired girl realizes that it involves the spiritual side of the world, she goes quiet and listens with baited breath. You give her a summary of what's been happening today. You make sure to put an unsubtle emphasis on the danger of it all, and repeat the importance of staying safe quite a few times, to the point where Ren actually gets frustrated with it and tells you to stop.

Well, good. Means you got the point across. Besides, she nags at you sometimes, too.

...When it's over, after she hangs up, you let out another sigh. You feel tired. Not physically, surprisingly, but mentally. A chat with a friend really helped calm you down a bit. You're still worried, of course. That's not going to stop until Kimiko's back with you. When she comes back, you're going to hug her really freaking hard, to both show off your happiness and to punish her for doing something so stupid.

For now, though, you should head back home, just as per your plan. Naoko silently follows.

...

"Clarissa," The quiet girl suddenly speaks up once you reach the doorstep of your house. "Do you want me to do anything?"

What a weird question to ask now, of all times. Well, now that you think about it, there's actually a lot of stuff she can probably do.

...

>"Come on in and hang out with me. Or at least try to make sure I don't scratch holes through the fucking walls."
>"You want me to send you off to go look for Kimiko or something? I mean, if that's what you want to do, go ahead, Naoko."
>"You should go home and rest, Naoko."
>Other. (Write-in).

I could see sending her to search too, to make her feel more useful.

Ask if she thinks she CAN track Kimiko in a way that won't attract notice from the other shinigami. If not, then.

"Come on in and hang out with me. Or at least try to make sure I don't scratch holes through the fucking walls." You really feel like you shouldn't be left alone in a room. Heck, you don't WANT to be left alone anywhere.

She looks... uncertain about that, though. "...I don't know if I should, Clarissa."

You can't help but raise a brow. "The heck do you mean?"

What, does she not want to, or is she feeling too shy all of a sudden to enter your house? This is coming from the same girl that made you sleep in the same bed with her and didn't even flinch at the weird implications. What is it with this weird habit of getting spontaneously timid that some people have been developing recently? Sure, Kimiko you can kind of understand, and, well, Naoko is actually a pretty shy person in general, but not in this... strange way. Not as far as you know, at least.

You grab her hand and drag her in through the open door. Well, it's not really 'dragging' - she's not resisting at all - but it still took you this much just to get her inside.

"Sorry." She suddenly apologizes.

"...For what, Naoko?"

"For... being rude. I've never been over at a friend's house before."

That's... kind of surprising, actually. Does she even have any friends besides you? No, scratch that. Even HAD any friends besides you? The girl looks away from your questioning glare; she probably knows exactly what you're thinking right now.

"...It's pretty simple, you know. Just make yourself comfortable. As if you're back at your own place." You... try to guide her through the process of hanging out with friends, or something. Naoko takes careful glances around the living room, as if worried that her staring for too long will break something, and then stands stock still in the middle of the room, just... standing there.

"Naoko, did you hear me?"

"I'm... comfortable."

Yeah, well... huh.

It takes just about everything you have in you to not burst out laughing. She's noticed your attempts at holding that tidal wave of a guffaw in, but you soldier on and suppress it even though it might have been for naught, with your being spotted and all. Boy is this going to take a bit of work, though.

You eventually manage to teach Naoko the joys of sitting around on a friend's couch and just watching a movie. She gets the hang of it pretty quickly; it took a bit of a push here and there, sometimes a literal one, but she's relaxed now, no longer stiffer than a board.

The issue now is that you can't focus on the movie. Your eyes keep darting to the windows, as if hoping to spot her wandering about. It's... stupid, you're aware. You don't even know what she looks like. You still can't help it.

Maybe the silence in which you're sitting is stifling. No, you think that even if you were talking non-stop it wouldn't help anything. You're waiting for the doorbell to ring. You're waiting for Kimiko to come back home.

"Clarissa." Naoko sternly calls you, knocking you out of your panicking trance. ...Ah, shit, you were digging your nails into the goddamn couch. You need to calm down and focus on the stupid movie, somehow, or you're going to-...

The bell rings.

So were you surprised anons would have the audacity to throw Captain Clown under the bus?

Because I was surprised.

I was certainly surprised! I'd never come up with something like that on my own, but I know everything that's going on, so maybe I'm a little biased!

It was very clever, though. That conversation could have taken some grim turns.

Pretty keen description on how Clarissa was feeling by the way. Exactly how a child feels when blaming a likely culprit when trying to get away with something they did.
