You are Shane Morris. You are, apparently, a wizard.

It is your first day at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and so far you've managed to show up one of your stuck up roommates twice in class.

You've just finished up your last two classes of the day, Herbology and History of Magic and you have 3 hours before dinner.

What are you gonna do?

>Do your Potions homework with your friend Alex
>Explore the castle
>Just hang out in the commonroom

You decide to take a crack at your potions homework. Alex is eager to try again after being unable to make the Forgetfulness potion in class.

You sit down together and get to work.

Alex quickly manages to prepare his ingredients, while you stumble and have to start again. However while you do so Alex botches his potion and ends up having to start over as well. His second potion is a success, and he grins widely, traipsing across the common room to Robbie and Henry to show them.

You however only manage to botch the potion again. You're starting to get a bit frustrated.

You decide to go study instead. You go down to the library and start paging through some introductory books. All of the subjects look so fascinating and you're having trouble deciding what to focus on. But when you see a potions book you think about your homework still sitting upstairs and decide you need some more potions knowledge.

You spend the rest of the hour before dinner studying potions.

When you leave the library you have to take a different route to the Great Hall than you've done when you've gone there before, and you end up passing by a small nook under the shifting staircase. As you do you hear some people talking, and after a moment you realize that one of them is Linus, the Hufflepuff you rode the train to school with.

“Listen Linus.” One of the other kids says. “The Parkinsons are one of the purest families in Britain, and you can't just go around associating with muds just because you got put in the wimpy house.”

“Why do you even care?” You hear Linus ask.

“Because when people see you acting nice to the muggleborns, they start to think things are changing. And they aren't.”

“I think things can change. And they should.”

“Grab him Dorner.”

It sounds like they're about to beat up Linus.

>>

You really ought to adopt the usual best of three system for rolls, it produces failure at a reasonable rate, as opposed to this.
>>
Hardly thinking you run into the nook, where you see two older students towering over Linus. You run up behind them and try to knock one in the back of the head. Unfortunately your punch, the first one you've ever thrown, is very lackluster, and is about as effective as would have been tapping him on the shoulder to inform him of your presence.

As they turn around you grasp for your wand and cast the only thing that comes to mind, Lumos, the only spell you actually know. Surprisingly you actually manage a pretty strong spell, and the light suddenly shining in the previously dark alcove is enough to blind the two students.

Linus takes the chance and punches one in the gut and then grabs you and makes a break for it. The both of you run all the way to the Great Hall, not stopping until you're sure the teachers can see you.

“Thanks Shane. I don't know how many people would have jumped in on two older students like that.”

>>It was nothing.

>>
>>40204730
However, with a Hogwarts quest odds are it'll be a lot less lethal. And so best of three is a little unnecessary.

If OP wanted to be really generous, he might give us best of 2, or occasional rerolls.
>>
>>40204879
You can take it later if you want. Though I'd say not in the middle of combat. You can also get 1 more Perk Point by putting your stat point you get at the end of the year into Spirit.

“It was nothing. I didn't even really see them, just heard it mostly.”

“Well, keep your eyes peeled from now on. Dorner and Yates'll be after you now too. Though I don't imagine they'll tell anyone else what happened.” He snickers a little, already back to his smiling self.

“Who were those guys anyway?”

“Dorner's a Gryffindor, and Yates is in Slytherin. They're both second years, and it looks like they've taken on the job as the blood purity protection squad.”

“That's not a real thing is it?”

“Not officially, but in our world, everyone has to have their hand in every pie. Unless I do what they say, or can make them stop on my own, they'll never let up. Anyway, lets get eating. I'm starving.” And with that Linus bounces away like he wasn't almost just the target of a hate crime. You feel a bit uncomfortable about just dropping it, especially if like he said they might come after you now.

You decide to go get Alex for backup. You look around and see him sitting at the Ravenclaw table, at the far end near the doors.

As you sit down next to him you start explaining in hushed tones what just happened.

“Is Linus okay?” Alex asks when you finish.

Both of you look over to the Hufflepuff table where he is currently standing and singing very loudly to a group of boys who are doubled over in laughter.

“As long as they don't catch him alone again I think he'll be fine.”

“What about you? No offense, but you don't have the same kind of posse. It's mostly just me, and maybe Robbie if you can convince him to stick his neck out for you like that.”

“I think we just need to make more friends, just like Linus. He was nice to us and I stepped in for him. But also I think maybe I should just buckle down and learn some defensive spells quick.”

“Okay. Well, how about this?” Alex reaches into his pocket and pulls out the vial of Forgetfulness Potion he swiped from class this morning. “You could splash this on anyone who comes at you. It might not stop them, but its supposed to make it harder to remember how to cast spells.”

“Sure thanks.” You pocket the potion.

You eat the rest of your meal in silence before returning to the common room.

You are having some trouble deciding if it would be less fun to go talk to the girls, or the older kids. Somwhere in your pre-adolescent mind you decide that the best course is to mix the two into some kind of social taboo cocktail and go talk to the older girls.

As you approach them you realize how dumb this idea is. But they see you already and it's too late to turn around.

“Do you want to study potions together or something?” You say.

The girls look at each other for a second before starting to laugh uncontrollably.

“Do you need help with your homework? Is that it?” One of them asks.

“No, I mean, yes but...”

“It's okay. That's part of the point of houses. We can help you.”

You spend the remaining two hours sitting with the three older girls, feeling very awkward. But, on the bright side you've finished your potions homework.

The next morning you and Alex go to breakfast together. You see Dorner waiting at the bottom of Ravenclaw tower for you, but he turns around when he sees you're not alone.

After breakfast you have your first class of Defense Against the Dark Arts. You head to the classroom on the second floor, where a very happy looking old woman in what looks like the wizard equivalent of military fatigues, is waiting at the door and greeting people as they come in. “Yeah.” You say, putting on your best 'why do you ask' face.

“Oh well, perk up then, you look very drear.” She gives you a smile. “Why don't you sit at the front for today, I'll need a volunteer today.”

“Okay.” You say. You were sort of considering sitting at the front anyway.

As the class settles in Professor Morse moves to the front.

“My job, as all other teachers is to keep you safe.” She starts. “But my job extends beyond the school, because in my class you will also learn to defend yourselves. Mr. Selwyn, please come up here.”

A Slytherin boy who was also sitting in the front stands up. You realize she's probably hand picked the front row.

“Do you know any combat spells, Mr. Selwyn?”

“No, Professor.” He says it, but after a moment under scrutiny he says; “Well, I know the one, from my brother.”

“Of course. Purebloods I've noticed tend to learn some spells they shouldn't. Mr. Morris, up front.”

You stand up and move to the front.

“You know any combat spells?”

“Lumos.”

The class laughs but Morse just smiles.

“Well then show us the combat applications of Lumos.” She says.

Professor Morse makes you and the other boy square off in front of class. After a few seconds she says; “Go!”

You conjure up the brightest light you've managed so far. Meanwhile the other boy makes some admittedly impressive wand motions and says; “Malokor!”

You feel something grab you, and stop dead, unable to move. Oddly enough, so does the other boy.

“Sorry for that, but not many people can read a fight as fast as I can.” Morse says. “See class, how Mr. Selwyn's wand is pointed over Mr. Morris' shoulder? Even if he had managed his Babbling Curse it would have zoomed right past him. His hand tracked away from the light when he turned his head away.” You feel the binding lift and you can move again.

“Mr. Morris' simple spell was far more reliable, and even if I doubt he would win a real fight against Mr. Selwyn. He would certainly embarrass him quite severely before going down. 5 points to Ravenclaw. Now open your text books to page 10.”

The rest of the class is spent learning about proper combat stances, and how to throw an accurate spell.

After that you head to Herbology, and then, after that, to what you are told, will be broomstick flying lessons.

With our luck the older Girls that helped us are secretly succubus or are in the whole purity of Blood thing

We have failed every roll but thr two lumoses in this thread

You make your way out to the Transfiguration yard where you see a number of brooms lined up on the ground.

A short Spanish man, who you know to be Professor Johannes, is standing next to them.

“Today,” He says in a thick Spanish accent. “You will begin learning to fly. Everyone stand next to a broom.”

You stand next to your broom, feeling a bit uneasy about this whole 'flying' thing.

“Now, put your hand over the broom, and say, 'Up!'”

“Up.” You say, as your broom rolls away across the grass. You would feel bad, but it looks like everyone is having issues getting the brooms to behave.

After a while you manage to get it up, and not long after you've managed to hover off the ground. No huge fuckups, just a shaky start. Still you doubt this will ever be your passtime of choice.

Having finished that you've been to all of your practical classes at least once.

You skate through the rest of the week with fairly little hassle.

You have some free time during the week, what would you like to do with it? (Feel free to mix and match)

>Study [subject or topic]
>Explore the castle.
>Try to make friends [who?]
>Other

God running a quest makes you get tired of identifying sushi and burgers.
>>
>>40207930
The second one only worked because of a re-roll too.
>>
>>40207959
>Try to make friends [who?]
First year girls, we need our Hermione and Luna.
>>
>>40207987
Ill second this.
>>
>>40207959
>>Explore the castle.
>>
>>40207959
>>Try to make friends [the first year girls]
If luck be a lady, then we best get to knowing some ladies.
>>
>>40207959
>Try to make friends
Try to find someone that can get our (inexplicably rare) favourite food for us.
>>
>>40207959
>Explorer the castle

Alternative:

>Try to make friends with some of the beings that live in the castle, you know ghosts and such
>>
>>40207959
>Try to make friends [Robbie]
Robbie will be our non-bumbling friend.
>>
>>40207969
I'm doing some dice calcs in between posts to see what I like.
>>
>>40207959
>Try to make friends [who?] Those girls who helped with potions homework.
>>
>>40207959
>>Study [subject or topic]
Charms. We need some bang to go with our flash.
>>
>>40208037
what kind of chances for a roll are you looking for?
>>
>>40208025
That's Robbie.
>>
>>40207959

>Study [charms]
>>
>>40207959
STUDY, NIGGA.
Sleep and friends need no apply.
>>
>>40207959
>Try to make friends [the first year girls]
I can get behind this.

I know, especially if the sushi is soup and the burgers sandwiches.
>>
/tg/ why are you so girl crazy? Those older girl don't want to hang with no little boys.
>>
>>40208067
first got to get our Perks up to maximize study efficiency. as I posted here >>40206851
>>
>>40207959
Put the stud in study while making friends with the older ravenclaw girls more
Put our charm on while they teach us charms.
Maybe they will teach us something neat, and I bet they have a lot of tips for beginners
>>
>>40207959
Try to do lumos with no wand
Then our flash would really catch people off guard
>>
>>40208185
we can't succeed with wandless Lumos since the difficulty for that would be 15 and our highest possible roll is 14
>>
>>40208185
We would need a trench coat and about 45 years of age for anyone to really expect us to flash a bunch of school girls.
>>
>>40208280
We don't know that IC, and who doesn't want magic fingers?
>>
>>40208037
actually looking at the numbers we autosucceed Lumos if you allow the take 5
>>40208302
good point.
>>
>>40208302
If we put the wand up our butt we might be able to cast spells by shaking our ass.
>>
>>40208302
Well IC I dont see a reason for us to try to cast wandless magic, we are New in this and I think that after being told how important is a wand to a wizard we wont be trying that so soon
>>
>>40208338
twerk team
>>
>>40208373
Were we ever told that?

You spend a few hours over the next week studying with the other Ravenclaw girls in your year. You find out their names are Erin, Izzy, Jenny, Evelyn, and Matilda. They're all definitely bright, and they help you a lot with your homework, you unfortunately don't have much knowledge to offer them in return, at least for now.

You also decide to do a little peeking around the castle and see if you can find any of those secrets the older kids mentioned on the first night.

You also hang out with Robbie, who you find out has been slowly browbeating Lom into being less of an ass. As it turns out his dad is an Auror, which he further explains is a kind of police man for wizards. Robbie says he might be able to help you learn some defensive magic.

The older girls are nice enough, and you ask them for help a few more times, but try not to overstay your welcome.

Much of your study time is dominated by Charms which you like a lot, and seem to have quite a knack for.

Gonna be using average of 2d10 round up from now on. You still have one re-roll per session.

While exploring the castle you find 11 sickles under a table in an abandoned classroom.

Gonna end Part 2 here. I'll be back on Friday for the next part. I'll hang around a bit for questions and such.
>>
House Points currently stand at;

Slytherin: 46
Ravenclaw: 46
Gryffindor: 24
Hufflepuff: 18
>>
>>40208598
sickles I forget are those coins or?

>>40208635
Tie for first, nice!
>>
>>40208598
huh so average roll is 8 now?
also how will you handle crits?
>>
>>40208635
Hufflepuff, why do you disappoint us so?

>>40208655
Silver.
>>
>>40208688
sweet nice find then. Gryffindor ain't much better.
>>
>>40208701
we just found 26.40 $ laying around.
>>
>>40208635
Hot damn, Shane's responsible for almost two thirds of Ravenclaws points. I bet he thinks he's hot shit.
>>
>>40208655
29 Knuts to a Sickle, 17 Sickles to a Galleon.
A Galleon is roughly 24 pounds or $40 USD so you just found about 16 pounds or $26.40 USD.

>>40208682
Average roll is about 5.7 something, averaging the rolls gives you a bellcurve that is only very slightly skewed toward the highend and still completely within the bounds of that dice's normal limits. There are no crits in this system so its not an issue.

>>40208727
In a school where you could have also run into a common household pest that in groups are probably worse than a pack of wild dogs, I wouldn't even question it.

>>40208745
The Plot armor is strong with this one. For now...
>>
>>40208786
When are we allowed to pick a trait? Only when they come up or at the end of a session? Is there a list of ones we are eligible for?
>>
>>40208812
Was trying to make it a roleplay thing since I'm not bothering to give anyone else perks. They're mostly things you have over normal npcs.

Right now you qualify for;
Finders Keepers
Free Tutoring
Tussle Hardened

Make more connections and friends in ways that match up with perks to unlock more.
>>
>>40208909
Cool. When are we allowed to aquire said perks though? Is it only when they come up?
>>
>>40209026
Whenever. I'll probably put a notice at the top of the next thread reminding people that perks are on the table.
>>
>>40208909
only tussle hardened is worth anything of those.
free tutoring is most useful when boosting a skill at 5th rank and finders keepers is worth only 100 hours of study that's pretty weak compared to Well connected that gives 20 free hours so as long as we study for atleast 5 different things we're better off choosing Well Connected.

using the weird arbitrary figures given in the book. it should be worth hundreds if you go by metal prices.

>While exploring the castle you find 11 sickles under a table in an abandoned classroom.
So, do we turn those in? magic should allow locating their rightful owner
