“We’re infiltrating a cult” she replies “Once we find out what we need to know, we’ll call in the cavalry and all the bad people will be arrested.”

It turns out being evil is boring. You follow Instructor Tanner around as she talks to the old men from earlier, and some of the other circus folk, and some of the people from town too. They talk about *following the darkness* and being *one with the Pit* and like most grown-ups, they talk to each other and ignore you. You’re in a big circus tent, but only some people are allowed in here, there were guards all around the outside.

Chesi gets more attention than you. But then, she is in full demon mode, and she’s only in her underwear now that she’s taken her cloak off. You wonder how she’s not cold.

Every now and then one of the grown-ups at this meeting will hesitantly touch her horns, or her tail, or a wing. Chesi doesn’t seem bothered by the attention, and just watches everything curiously.

Eventually Most people stop talking and only one grown-up at the front keeps talking, thanking them for coming and talking about boring stuff like *the dark lords rising from the pit* and stuff.

Then things get a bit more interesting. They draw a circle on the ground in the middle of the tent. It’s like those you learned about in Magical Theory but it’s very complicated. Then they kill a bunch of chickens for some reason and pour their blood on the ground in the circle. Then dark smoke starts to rise from the circle, and you don’t feel too good...

You feel sick, something bad is going to happen and your whole body feels funny and you’re sweating. You are on one side of Instructor Tanner and Chesi is on the other, both of them are watching the smoke.

The circle is magic, the wrong sort of magic. It’s...bad...

You try to ignore the feeling, even though you feel like you want to be sick and your vision blurs and you’re ready to pass out again.

You push all the bad feelings away, paladins do the right thing, even when it gets hard, and you’re going to be a paladin!

The smoke gets thicker and thicker but stays within the circle, and then it turns into a skinny grown-up person but wearing armour and a closed helmet, only his mouth is visible and he has sharp teeth.

You don’t know why, but he seems really scary to you, and it only gets worse when he says in a weird voice “Why summon thee Qux of the Eyeless?”

One of the old men kneels before him and says “great lord, we summon you because this woman” he points to Instructor Tanner “claims she wishes to bargain with you, that she has something you want.”

The scary man turns to face Instructor Tanner and seems to be looking at her, and at Chesi and you both “Speak” he says.

Instructor Tanner walks up to the edge of the circle, leaving you and Chesi behind. And then she starts talking to him in a language you don’t know, and the words hurt your ears. You grit your teeth; paladins don’t let pain stop them!

Finally he says something in a language that you know “And are you prepared to pay the price of your question?”

“Yes” says Instructor Tanner “Samiya, come here.”

Uh oh....

You walk up to her, even though this man is really scary. You are aware of Chesi at your side.

“As you can see” says Instructor Tanner “I have one apprentice already. I will recruit others and teach them to honour Qux the Eyeless.”

The scary man seems to be looking at you, though he has no eyes.

“You seem familiar to me” he says “Have we met before?”

You see the old men across the other side of the circle, they look really angry.

Short version, Bluey is hated by nations, can't get anyone to trade her for good metal and the metal the orcs had was mostly shit. Bluey makes a gift to Sireyi with the following conditions:
i) Oreia has to create X new mines each year for the next Y years
ii) The metal taken from the mines created as part of this agreement is split between the Empire and Oreia for the next Y years

The amount of wealth she'd actually Sireyi would exceed both the cost of opening these mines and the likely value of the metal. This is partially because Bluey wants Sireyi to get her realm up to speed and figures she may as well get some good metal out of the deal.

She could make her own mines, and will likely do so, of course, but this way she gets more metal faster in the short term and a substantially stronger allied realm.

Mainly I don't really see the utility in it. We already can do that by playing as Sireyi and Pally is otherwise good about dealing with our laws and such. I think it'd just create too much slowdown to be worth it.
