You are Shane Morris. You are, apparently, a wizard.

At first you didn't believe it; no one did, when an owl flew through the window the evening of your eleventh birthday bearing a letter with no return address.

Even when a man arrived in a singed tweed jacket claiming to be the deputy-headmaster of 'Hogwarts'. No, you're pretty sure no one believed in magic until the moment that he started juggling your living-room furniture with his wand.

The thing was that you had never been particularly good at anything. You were average at sports, got average marks, had an average number of friends. Sure it was a nice fantasy, but for it to be really happening. Wow.

It's been a few months since then, and now you are walking through King's Cross station with a trunk full of magical gear and your trepidatious parents.

As you walk through the station you see strange people with the same strange collection of cauldrons and books as you. All of them are slowly inching toward a wall which from the looks of it is some kind of illusion. You get ready to make your way over to the wall, eager to see what your new life has to offer, but first you turn back to your parents.

>Bye. See you for Christmas.

You try to think of something cool to say, but can't find the words. You feel tears start to build and wipe at your eyes with your sleeve.

“I don't know if I'm ready.” You say through bleery eyes.

Your parents kneel down next to you. “Of course you are dearie.” Your mother says. “You'll have so much fun. And you'll be back so quick, I'll bet you'll spend all your time at home wishing you were back at school.”

You cry and hug your mum and dad. After a while your dad extricates himself and starts pushing you along with the other kids bound for Hogwarts who are doing a very poor job of hiding it.

You move toward the pillar that they periodically disappear into and try to push your own cart through. But mostly end up just scuffing your trunk against the brick. As you struggle against the brick, you suddenly feel something crash into your legs and you go down.

Looking up you see a blonde boy looking down at you over his glasses. “Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. Are you okay? Let me help, sorry.” He offers his hand to help you up.

>Take his hand
>Take his hand. “No harm done.”
>Fite me m8.

Can Slytherin be future politicians and political leaders and ambitious instead of cartoony villains? Because that would make life better for everyone.
>>

>>
can we all agree that slyitherin will not be our choice.

that being said im for ravenclaw or griffindor

>>
You feel a bit irritated, but you figure it was an accident and he seems to feel really bad about it.

“No harm done.” You say as he helps lift you off the floor.

“Are you sure. I could get you a compress. I'm really sorry. I should look where I'm going. I'm kinda stupid like that. Sorry again.”

“Wow, okay. Slow down. It's fine really. Just try to be more careful next time.”

He nods. Then stands looking at the ground for a second. “Oh!” He grabs an old ratty looking composition book off the top of his luggage and thumbs through the pages. Then he whispers “You have to run at the wall to get through.” After that he backs his cart away and goes to stand next to two people you assume are his parents.

Taking the boy's advice you back off from the pillar too. Then, stealing yourself you run full speed at the side of the pillar. A second later you phase through and are staring out onto a platform that looks like it was designed by Willy Wonka and a group of color blind gnomes.

The train is the most striking thing. In bright red like a perfect apple. You still have some time to kill before it leaves.

Or we could be a Puff and wind up with one of said nerdy girls having a crush on us, helping us with our homework. Think about it. A long, hard study sessions in the library after class hours are over. The candlelight dances in her eyes, right before she pushes us up against the stacks and kisses us.
But yeah, Ravenclaw is my second choice.
>>40161294
They are exceptionally good finders.
But seriously, Hufflepuff are the solid, reliable, bro-tier House. They aren't super good at any one thing, but that's okay. An exemplar of the Houses virtues can change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects and Slytherins.

Wait for good reason, obviously. Our mum raised us not to believe every little rumor we hear about people. But the moment we catch a "Mud Blood" comment from someone, it's on like Donkey Kong.
Oh yeah, and Tonks was a Hufflepuff, so more points there. If only we were in the class of '91...

You kind of want to wander, but you don't trust yourself not to get lost in the craziness. You decide to wait for the boy who crashed into you before so you can thank him for the tip.

However as he comes through the pillar he has his nose buried in the notebook and almost crashes into you again. You manage to pull your cart out of the way in time and flag him down.

“Thanks for the tip.” You say.

“Uh huh.” He nods.

“I'm gonna go find a place to sit.”

“Oh, would you mind if I followed you?” He asks a bit sheepishly.

“Sure.” You say after a moment.

The two of you make your way onto the train and find a compartment at the front of the train. After packing away your things you both sit down.

“I'm Shane by the way.” You tell him, offering your hand.

He looks like he's about to say something, then stops and starts looking around like he's lost something.

“Uh, hey, it's a bot rude to ignore people like that.” You tell him.

“Oh, uh. Sorry. It's just that I think I've lost my pencil.”

“Your pencil?”

“Yeah. I don't remember when I last saw it.” He scratches his head. “Maybe I left it at home.”

“Do you want help looking?”

“If you would that would be great.”

You start helping him look for his pencil, mostly just to humor him. After a few minutes of silence you realize he's still forgotten to introduce himself.

“So what's your name?”

“Oh, right, Alex Foss. Thanks for the help.”

“Linus Parkinson. Nice to meet you. Lets see if we can't find this pencil.”

The three of you spend the next few minutes looking all over the compartment and through Alex's things.

In the end, Alex finally calls off the search. “I probably just left it at home. Thanks anyway.”

“Of course.” Linus says. “Would you like to borrow a quill?”

“Sure.” Alex says.

Linus produces a quill and Alex digs out his note book. “What were your names again?”

Both you and Linus look at him a bit strangely before reintroducing yourselves.

You and Alex both look at him confusedly.

“What's a house?” You ask him.

“Oh, muggleborns. Sorry. Hogwarts sorts us into houses, based on what we're good at. Gryffindor for the brave, Ravenclaw for the smart, Hufflepuff for the good, and Slytherin for the pure.”

“Pure?”

“Yeah, basically, no muds allowed. Only old blood.”

“What about you?” Alex asks. “What one do you want?”

“Oh, uh,” He pauses and stops smiling. “Slytherin. Definitely. Everyone in my family for a long time back has been a Slytherin.” He looks around the compartment, clearly a bit uncomfortable.

“Well, I think all of those sound good.” You say to try and pull him back into the conversation. “Though, maybe I'd like Ravenclaw over the others.”

“Yeah, me too.” Alex says.

Both you and Linus turn to him and start laughing.

“No, I'm serious. I can do it. I got top marks in school. I'm smart. I can totally be a Ravenhoof.”

At that you and Linus laugh even harder. The three of you spend the rest of the ride talking and laughing together.

When you finally arrive and get off the train in your school robes, it's dark. You hear a loud angry Scottish man calling out over the platform.

More coming

Can't tell if trolling, or genuinely don't appreciate.
In any event, the world she made had more depth to it than SOME places. Yes, the books were, for the most part, a long stream of deus ex machinas with little suspense whatsoever, but that doesn't mean that people can't have fun in the cute little world she made.

That said, I'm out. Not my cup of tea.
>>
“First years! Git over here or I'll drag ya ta school by yer toes!” You approach to find it is a bald fat man, only a bit taller than the first years with an intricately braided beard. “Down the hill!” He starts pushing the group down a dark muddy hill. At the bottom are a number of boats in the shallows of a lake which he starts angrily forcing the children into.

Once everyone is settled the boats start slowly across the lake. Looking up you see a castle. And not a castle like you've seen in pictures, but a castle from a fairytale. Completely devoid of reasonable architectural decisions, with soaring arches, and towers sticking out at odd angles, and an unnatural light which bleeds out across the lake. This, is your new home.

You get off at a small dockhouse just below the castle and are all led up to the main hall. There you see the same man who came to meet you at your house.

“I am Deputy-Headmaster Ricimer. In a moment we will enter the Great Hall and you will be sorted into your houses. Please try not to make too much of a fuss, or trip over anything, this is your first introduction to the rest of the student body, and you should try to make it positive.”
>>
Seconds later a pair of grand double doors open and you look to see a massive dining hall with no ceiling.

The group shuffles inside and the door closes behind you. Up front you see a hat on a chair. And as Ricimer calls the first person, he places the hat on their head. A second later, you jump as the hat screams; “Hufflepuff!”

The girl stands, and walks in the wrong direction before being turned around and going to sit at the table under a big banner of a badger.

They call up Alex and after a few minutes you hear the hat sigh and say; “Fine then, Ravenclaw.”

Finally. It's your turn. You walk to the front and sit on the stool, and feel the hat press down on your head. Then you hear a voice in your ear. “Hmmm. Caring, and kind, but more than a bit of potential for academics. Not particularly brave, but you could change that with time. What do you think boy? Why are you here?”

“I want to learn. But I want to do other things too.”

“Well, you're lucky there isn't a house for indecisiveness. But this isn't hard, You'll fit in perfectly.”

“Ravenclaw!” You hear the hat yell out of it's cloth mouth.

You stand up and go to sit with Alex.

When Linus' turn comes he looks about ready to faint. He sits on the chair for a long time, and you can see him gripping the side of the stool hard. Finally the hat yells; “Hufflepuff!” And a very confused Linus stands and practically falls down the hall toward the Hufflepuff table.

When the sorting is done the Headmaster stands up to give a speech. He's an older guy with a strawberry blonde beard in an ugly sea green flatcap and matching robe. The speech is pretty boring fare about togetherness and tolerance that you've heard at every school assembly ever. Minus the part about being careful not to fall into pixie nests, that was new.

When the speech was over he clapped his hands and food just appeared on the tables. Everyone digs in.

You decide to try and find out more about the school. You turn to one of the older kids next to you and start to ask him questions.

“So what's it like going to school here?”

“Well, I guess it would be like school anywhere else. Study, do good work, try to make some friends. Oh, but I guess if you want a tip, don't walk in any of the flower patches on the grounds. MacLeod the groundskeeper will give you detention for anything he can. And if any of the teachers do give you a hard time, go to Professor Ricimer. He's our house head. He'll help deal with it.”

“Oh,” One of the other students across the table breaks in. “And Professor Morse, that's the scary looking crone over there.” He points to a woman who must be in her 80s but looks like she's ready for war, with cropped hair and what looks like leather armor on over her robes. “She always lets you do extra credit no matter what. You can get like 200% in her class if you're willing to work for it.”

“Thanks.” You say.

You spend the rest of the meal badgering the older students for information and learn all about the teachers, mostly how they run their classes. You also learn a couple of secrets about the castle and how to get around.
>>
You go off to bed that night with both your stomach and mind full. The Ravenclaws, you discover live at the top of a tower, and need to answer a riddle to get into their common room. When you get to your room, you meet two of your other roommates. Robbie and Henry. Robbie is a bit chubby, and seems a bit preoccupied when you say hello, on account of having eaten way too much at dinner. Henry mostly just squeaks and hides from you. But you finally got him to say hi after a few minutes.

Your last roommate seems less eager to meet you.

Hes a pale looking, lanky kid with squished eyes and blonde hair. When you go to introduce yourself he just turns away from you.

“Oh don't bother with him.” Robbie says. “He'll only talk to me. He thinks he's too high and mighty to talk to you muds.”

“Muds?”

“Uh, yeah. Muggleborn. He's a pureblood, and I'm halfblood. The purebloods, that is all magic blood as far back as you can figure, some of 'em have this superiority thing. His family is sorta like that. Even though that's dumb cause we all know the Bordes have squib blood from a couple centuries back.” He says the last part to the boy.

“That's dumb. You're dumb. That sounds like it would cause a lot of inbreeding.”

“It does.” Robbie says, stretched out on his bed. “Like I said though. The Bordes have bred out enough it isn't an issue for Lom over there. Some of 'em though. You can see it in their faces, somethings not quite right.”

“That's just their magic. It's in their blood, it makes them look strange to you because you're not used to it.” The boy, Lom, protests.

“Whatever,” Robbie says. “My suggestion to you Shane is to drop it. At least until morning. I'm tired.” With that Robbie rolls over and goes to sleep.

You figure Robbie's probably right and so you too start getting ready for bed. When you hit the pillow you're asleep immediately.

The next morning at breakfast you get your class schedule. You see you have Charms class first. Between reading and asking questions yesterday you have a general idea of what your classes are like.

“What class are you looking forward to the most?” Alex asks.

“I wanna learn Charms.”

“Well, you're lucky then. First class of the day. Lets go.”

You and Alex walk to the third floor potions classroom together and find your seats. Within minutes Ravenclaws have filled half the seats, and over the few minutes right before class starts, the Hufflepuffs slowly leak in too.

The teacher, who introduces himself as Professor Cecil is a man who seems like a living tree, in that he is very tall, very thin, and gives the impression he might fall over in a stiff wind.

“Today class,” He says in an almost clownishly drawn out way, like he's opening a circus act. “We will be learning the Lumos charm. Very simple, makes your wand glow. First magic anyone learns.”

He takes a few minutes to explain how the spell is used and then leaves you to it.

>Roll 1d10. I need at least 4 rolls before continuing.

I'll be taking the first roll that comes up for the check, and the remaining three to decide your wand.

You try to help Alex, but it seems like everytime he tries again he gets flustered. Judging by the rest of the class, you and Lom may be exceptions, most people are having trouble.

You start toying around with the spell and getting a feel for it. You find a wrist position that makes the light incredibly bright. So much so that Professor Cecil takes notice.

“That, class, is how it's done.” He says pointing to you. “10 points to Ravenclaw.”

“I bet I can do it better.” You hear Lom say. However as he goes to cast his spell it almost sputters out, and you can see him shrink shamefully back into his seat.

Next you have Transfigurations, taught by Professor Agustus, who looks like his face is made of melting wax. He rants for an hour about the dangers of Transfigurations and ends the class without any magic. Lame.

Next it's Potions time. You head down to the dungeons which are as dreary as you could imagine. But you know that Professor Ricimer is the teacher, so you're a little less repulsed.

“Okay class. We will be starting you out making the Forgetfulness Potion. Try not spill it on yourself if you can help it, otherwise you may as well have just skipped class. Its on page 12 of your text books, begin.”

You set to work and properly manage to prepare your ingredients, but when it comes to putting the potion itself together you get lost. Happily you look over to see Lom in a similar situation.

Alex has issues with the ingredients. And you try to help him, but he seems utterly lost.

However, after a while he just picks some of your prepared ingredients and throws them into his cauldron. By the end of the hour he has a perfect potion, as far as you can tell from the description in the book.

Now the tough part. You could try to pass it off as your own, or maybe...

You and Alex agree that you should just take it to Ricimer and see what you can get.

You and Alex haul the cauldron up to the front of the class.

“Which one of you made this?” He asks.

“Shane did the ingredients and I did the potion.”

“Well, good job boys, you've made the only potion in class. 15 Points for Ravenclaw. Still, I want you to make your own for homework, help is fine, but no mixing work, got it?”

“Yes, Professor.” You say together.

“You hear that class? For homework make a working Forgetfulness Potion. I will know if you cheat. Dismissed.”

Lom shoots you an evil look as he storms out of class, and Robbie follows him out laughing.

As you leave you see Alex palming a small vial. “Is that some of our potion?”

He nods a bit sheepishly.

“Well be careful with it, I don't even want to know what would happen if you took it.”

With that the two of you head off to lunch, playfully pushing each other through the halls.
