Welcome to Magical Soldier Quest! Where you play Akane Shogo, an ex-member of the most deadly squad of mortals on the planet. But once you killed a Witch all by your lonesome, you were recruited by the Em-Gees, or Magical Girls, and you’ve been one hell of a team mate since, killing Witches and cooking food since.

>Wait, Artemis, you have two quests, right?

That's right! Lost In Time, the alternate-history/fantasy story where a town gets thrown back in time and space to another land! I think it's good, so you should check it out!

And now, to the battle!

---

Brass rings at it hits the floor, clinking down just as axes and swords follow it, smashing into the earth, a few cutting straight through, standing straight in the ground. Eliza roars as she grabs another weapon from hammerspace, this time an actual hammer, one with magical wisps twirling around it, and throws it as hard as she can at Freyja.

Freyja herself stands in the middle of a patch of ice, spikes of the frozen water poking out of the ground within the area. A few have pierced right through some of the weapons that Eliza has either thrown or fired at Freyja. With the hammer coming at her, Freyja simply dodges to the side, letting the hammer keep going past her into the wilderness. But you see that she hasn’t dodged everything, and a few scars on her face and a gaping wound where a knife found itself into her leg tell you that Eliza has managed to make more of a dent than Freyja has. Freyja cries out in fury, and sends more bolts of ice right back at the Em-Gee.

Watching this all, you whisper to George, “Any recommendation to fight Freyja? What’s her weakness?”

George responds, “heavily magic dependent, but very strong. Of course, this means nothing to you. What do you have planned?”

Since the OP was too long, I've also switched to only using d100s and d20s, depending on whether or not I want more of a chance of a crit or not. It's worked well enough in Lost In Time, so should be fine here.

“I’m going to stop this,” you respond, stepping out and into the arena where the two are fighting. Eliza, upon seeing you, pauses in pulling out another weapon from hammerspace. Freyja wastes no time in taking advantage, and sends another bolt flying towards Eliza, before she can block it.

You manage to run the rest of the distance towards Eliza, and catch the bolt before it reaches her. You feel it wrenching at your own hand, a half magical and physical force, but you manage to absorb most of its force, redirecting it into the ground around you, freezing the earth. The ice bolt itself, though, is still left in your hand, a bit of it actually having pierced your palm.

“Fuck...” you grit your teeth, and glare at Freyja. “That was hardly an honorable shot right there, Freyja.”

Freyja laughs. “Ah, a mortal who knows my name. How refreshing. But in the end, you are a mere mortal, aren’t you? Your standards aren’t made for people like me, quaint as they are. How about you leave this fight before you get any more hurt?”

You stand up straight, still glaring. “I think you’re massively underestimating me, Freyja. People who do that don’t usually live to see the end of the day.”

Freyja grins. “Really? Then I guess it’s time for one of us to die! But oh,” she looks past you at Eliza, “I haven’t forgotten you, darling. Once I’m done with your friend here, once you’ve seen him die in front of your eyes, I guess then we can take care of you.”

And with those final words, Freyja pounces, jumping up into the air and throwing bolts at you.

Mmm, sounds delicious. Have you ever tried pulled pork? Sounds like the kind of kitchen that makes that stuff.

Tell your wife that strange men on the internet absolutely love her cooking, but recommend also adding a few more spices as you can never go wrong with spices.
>>
>>40159582
We've pulled pork before, works damn well!

She came in to my office to see why I was asking about the ribs and laughed, she loves sharing recipes. And the spice thing is 'whatnot' to cover different preferences - she uses a few others I didn't mention, but it changes every time because she's looking for that 'perfect' mix to us.

The bolts race across the distance between Freyja and yourself, and she laughs as you simply stand in the same place, looking up at the bolts as they approach you. Her laugh is almost drowned out by the whistling of the bolts, though, and you can see the magic and cold rolling off of each icicle, blades of absolute zero hungering for your body.

Her own laughter seems to grow to a crescendo as each and every blade finds your body, stabbing into it, tearing it apart...but it doesn’t. There isn’t an exit wound, nor an entry wound. Her laughter comes to a stop as she notices not a single blade left a single mark behind on your body.

Of course, you’re bubbling with energy. It crackles within you, the sheer force of the magic within you stretching, begging for release from its too-small container.

As Freyja floats back down to the ground, still watching you with care, waiting for you to make a move, you look inwards, towards the magic running around inside of you. Even as it attempts to escape, you break down each of the pieces, returning the bolts back to the magic that created them. In the process of doing so, you piece together exactly what you’ll need to make them again.

>You can cast Ice bolt!

Freyja hums as her feet touch the ground, and as she watches you now she takes a much more defensive position, watching you a lot more carefully. “Fair enough. You’re right, that I shouldn’t want to underestimate you.”

You chuckle as you turn to face her. “Indeed. But that won’t make much of a difference either, to be honest.”

Freyja shakes her head, and raises her hands again, more bolts forming in front of her. “Well, we’ll see how that turns out, won’t we?”

We do a bit of everything, no specialties for us. For recipes available to the public, we do a lot of what Alton Brown has in his books and we've had very few complaints.

For our own recipes, I've been slowly learning the grill (just started this year because our normal grillmaster has decided he's done) and have a good mix for BBQ burgers. Have a 2:1 ratio of different grounds (we use 85/15 and 93/7, respectively) and mix with seasonings of choice (I'm big on simple, so I just use salt and pepper) as well as about 1/4c BBQ of your choice (Stubbs Sweet 'n Sticky has been my favorite so far) for every 3 lbs meat. Spank into 1/2 lbs patties. Cook over a good bed of coals until it's hit that Medium mark of a faint pink center. Last time I used a thermostat we hit 350 or so during the cooking process. Cook 5 minutes, flip, cook another 5 did it for my grill. Meat stays nice and juicy, and the BBQ leaves a subtle sweetness to it all.

My wife is partial to her fried chicken recipe. The liquid base is 1 egg and 1/2c milk, whisked. Dredge in a mixture of 1c flour, garlic powder, oregano, basil, paprika, ground mustard, ground ginger, Himalayan pink salt, coarse ground black pepper, and crushed red pepper (All in varying amounts. She wings it each time, but obviously you don't just dump the seasonings in too large a quantity.).

Heat the oil to temperature on High (our range is electric, that's the highest setting on it) and cook strips of coated chicken 7-9 minutes depending on the size of them. Divine.

As another volley of ice bolts chase you down, you step to the side again, dodging them by a small enough margin that you can draw even more magic off of them. You’re well and above the limits of how much you can hold, and you can feel more magic leaking out of you with every second, so you quickly put it to use, setting the magic towards throwing a volley straight back towards Freyja.

Caught in the blast, two spikes hit Freyja in the shoulder and chest, and she cries out, letting loose an even larger barrage of bolts towards your position. Quickly draining magic away from you, you catch the next blast easily enough, letting it recharge your magic from your previous drop, and set towards blasting Freyja with a mixture of her own bolts and your own style of magic, the matter conversion. Caught between the ice and the super-condensed matter, Freyja slows down even more, getting hit a few more times before she collapses on the floor, breathing heavily.

Stepping forth, you pull out your razor blade, ready to finish off Freyja...

You also forget how terribly they can go as well. You have the same chance of rolling a 1 as a 100. If you wish, we can also change it to be the mean of the three rolls, with exception of crits. Does that sound fair?

---

You turn back to face Eliza, but as you do you can feel the air move as Freyja prepares to launch a close range bolt right behind you.

Turning, even as Eliza realizes what’s happening herself and shouts out to tell you, you’re already facing backwards, your hand up against her head and pushing her hands down.

As you settle your hand on her head, you realize that you can feel a much more close sense of exactly what someone’s magic is. You can feel Freyja’s energy pounding through her, the icy magic that courses through her veins rising at the touch of another person’s magic. You also feel your own magic, completely different, for even as Freyja’s power rages and cries, yours is an empty abyss, seemingly taking in anything that goes into it, even light.

And you realize that the only thing that separates the two is a pathetic cover of flesh. You decide to fix that. You make a single scratch with your finger, cutting into Freyja’s forehead. Even as blood starts to leak out, you can feel Freyja’s magic start to push back at your own, you force your own outwards, the void quickly swallowing up what magic there is.

But…you wanted her to surrender. And now, right here, this may be the time.

You keep the void from completely swallowing up Freyja’s magic, and instead redirect it to surrounding her magic. With some time, you let the void reform, become solid matter and magic apart from its past intangible state, and it becomes something else.

You will do no harm.

You will obey the orders of Shogo.

Your life is his.

And with that, you release the broken god to the ground, and you can only feel another layer of power given to you as Freyja begins to cry.

>You now control Freyja. She is yours, in body and mind.

Eliza runs over to you, pulling you away from Freyja. “Oh god, Shogo, I’m… are you okay? Are you hurt?” she looks up and down you, searching for a wound.

You gently push away from her. “I’m fine, Eliza. It’s her you need to be sorry for.”

“Why…” Eliza steps over to inspect Freyja, keeping her guard up and a weapon handy. “What’s wrong with her?”

You hesitate. “Ah…you may not be a fan.”

“What did you do, Shogo?”

“…I think I bound her magic. It’s not my own, it’s still within her, but I think she can only do what I want her to do.”

Eliza stares wordlessly at you, and turns back to Freyja. “Try to cast a spell for me.”

Freyja lifts a hand towards Eliza, almost as if to throw another bolt, but nothing happens. You feel a tug at her magic on your end, but it’s like a dog trying to pull against an owner’s leash: in the end, worthless.

Eliza steps away from Freyja, and turns back to you. “You do know exactly how dangerous this is, right?”

You shake your head, and Eliza continues. “There is a story, of the Witch Cleopatra who took control of mortals by seizing the minds of mortals, taking their free will away and then forcing them to do as she wished. You’ve…gone beyond that, Shogo. This is a violation that’s more than the most violent of crimes, the most destroying and shaming. Freyja has nothing now.”

George unwraps himself from your neck, slithering over to where Freyja has crumpled on the floor. His tongue flicks out a few times (you notice it’s more snake-like than eel-like), and turns to you. “She maintains her free will. But her magic has been bound up. It’s yours to do with as you please, Shogo.”

Eliza sighs, staring at the god. “Well, what are we going to do now? We’ve essentially leashed one of the strongest Witches there are, not counting the friendly ones. What’s our course of action?”

>>

>>
>>40165258
Yes, and?
Regardless of if we can fix her, which isn't guaranteed, it's still complete and utter humiliation that she may never forgive us for.
Second, this is still a not-nice Witch we're talking about here, who was perfectly willing to kill us a minute ago.
Just killing her is probably the best option, though I still want Eliza's opinion.
>>
>>40165359
we aren't cruel enough to kill a helpless enemy, let's at least try to fix her, who knows, maybe we can fix her evilness too, point is, I for one am not willing to behead an opponent who cant fight back.

I think it has to do with all the food-and-music-talk, the community on this quest is much more civil than most.

You sigh, and move over to Freyja, offering a hand. After a few seconds, she takes it, and you pull her up and onto her feet. “I think the best course of action is to bring her back to Haioku. She needs help, and I think that we can give it to her.”

Eliza stares at you. “The reason she needs help is your fault, you know that?”

You shrug. “She was about to kill me. My point is, since we actually do have a Witch who seems to have been unable to come over their trauma, we can help her with that. George, how old is Freyja exactly?”

George wriggles back onto your neck. “Eh, a few millennia old. Before the Norse myths originated, certainly.”

You turn back to Eliza. “So I think, if we can help her, then we can rehabilitate Witches, for the first time ever. We won’t need to kill any but the most extreme Witches any more. It would be wonderful.”

Eliza hesitates. “I don’t know…sounds like it could end up badly.”

Freyja coughs. “Well? Can we make a decision?”

You look at Freyja. “Yes. We’ll take you home. We’ll make you better again.”

Freyja chuckles. “Good luck with that, mortal. Or another one of these ‘Em-Gees’, as you call yourselves.”

You take hold of Freyja’s hand, and get her to take hold of Eliza with the other. “Either way, Freyja, you’re on your way to becoming a good person again.”

Freyja chuckles harder. “Oh, now even that might be beyond your own luck.

It’s a few days later that you manage to find your group back in Haioku, Chicago. Apparently Roland gave quite a talking to to th’Emprah, and you’re rather keen to hear it, though he refuses to say anything. “You’re not worthy,” he keeps repeating.

But now, you’re back home, and you find yourself confronted by an island full of Em-Gees. Who seem a bit hungry.

>Time to get to work! Cooking and getting the Em-Gees sorted.
>Introduce Freyja to the Microwave Coven.
>Write In.

God I'm actually tired so maybe one more post.

Writing. Last Update. Sorry for being so inconsistent tonight.

You leave the cooking to Roland (who seems to have joined you back to the island), and instead head along now to the deepest parts of Haioku, where the castle stretches into the earth of the floating island for a distance that seems a bit further than the island seems to be capable of holding.

And that is where you find the Microwave Coven cackling gleefully

“Oh, it’s almost done!” Harriet cries in happiness

“I can feel the power from here!” Sue says with joy

Gordon grins, raising her hands into the air. “And now, for the final sacrifice!”

You cough. “Uh, what are you guys doing?”

They all look up from the crock pot to you. “Making pulled pork of course.”

“It seemed a bit more…edgy than usual.”

Gordon shrugs. “Hey, we’re witches, we’re allowed for that extra bit of drama. Anyway, what did you want from us?”

You gesture behind you to where Freyja is hiding. “Uh, I’ve got this Witch here, who I want to rehabilitate.”

Harriet steps forth and takes Freyja’s hands. “What’s your name, child.”

Her glare is colder than the vacuum of space. “Freyja.”

Harriet smiles in return. “Happy to have you, Freyja. Oh, we’re just cooking now, fancy joining us?”

“What? No, I’m a god, I don’t need to-“

“Wonderful! Hey, Gordon, pass her a spoon, she can help. Oh, and Sue, please be careful with the sauce-“

You watch as the Witches quickly integrate Freyja into their group (completely against her will), and walk away, feeling awfully tired.

Wow, you haven’t been to sleep for a long time, have you?

You know what, you think…

You think you’re just…

The floor seems awfully comfy…

And that's the end of the thread for today. I'm about to pass out, so I won't copy paste the usual stuff.
