>In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only... GOVERNMENT!
>You are John Erlwise Shabti, an imperial noble who was granted governorship over the planet Valencia. From your capital city in Valencia Prime, you over see the development of your planet and the growth of its power.
>In the last thread, the Fungal Wars continue and we discover a massive psychic signature in the northern pole of the moon. However, whatever it is, it is shielded, even from orbital strikes.
>However, we have developed a fungicide to combat the zombie horde, though we have yet to use it.
Roman Diaz returns out of the warp a few days after the fungicide, contacting your palace. "Governor, I got those tanks you asked for and I'm here for my coolant." He says, the pict showing his cargo hold. It is filled with Chimeras, Leman Russes, Sentinels, and you even see a few Wyverns in there. "They did not come cheap I'm afraid. I'm going to need to ask for a larger discount on my coolant than previously agreed. 60% should do."
>Do we accept the vehicles in return for a reduced discount?
>>
>>40117768
For this purchase yes.

30%. We need the tanks to finish this war, and collect the coolant, Diaz. You won't get any of you have to fight through a world of xeno fungi mutants first.

You sigh. He's got you, there's no way you can't not take this deal. "Fine." You say, ordering for the docking codes for his freighter to be sent. "Good doing business with you governor." Diaz says.
You return back to your war council, the situation looking dire. "We're being pushed back, we need some way to get an edge." Frederick says. Suddenly, the ecclesiarchy representative, Father Mathias, stands. "Governor... perhaps we should call in the inquisition of the Ordo Xenos. Surely they could bring in some angels from the Death Watch to attack this pole." He says, the rest of the council looking surprised.
>Should we call the inquisition or look for other methods?
>>
>>40118138
Call them We're on good term witht he ecclisiarchy and at this point a few deathwatch could clear out the clusterfuck.
>>
>>40118138

>>
>>40118138
This seems like an alright idea, we have no obvious reasons to fear the inquisition. Let's call them.
>>
>>40118138
We're risking Exterminatis with calling in the Ordo Xenos, but it may be the only thing we -can- do. My vote is to call them.
>>
>>40118138

Well, this is what the Death Watch is for.

I say call them. At worst they Exterminatus the moon and kill our troops.
>>
>>40118313
Yeah, I agree with this.

Besides, if we don't call in the inquisition and someone else calls them on us it'll make us look bad.

After a few days of waiting, barely able to think straight with the threat looming over head, you get a response. "Your request has been approved. Estimated warp travel time: 2 months."
>We have two months to try and hold out until the Emperor's finest arrive. What should we do in the mean time to keep our lines held?
>>
>>40118381
Ready everyone and get as many pdf forces up to the kriegers as we can and still hold the line back home
>>
>>40118381
Send in the tanks we just got. Keep the fungicide in reserve. Unless we decided to use the fungicide on the elite forces at the poles?
>>
>>40118381

Utilize the tanks and vehicles and arm them with fungicide canisters. When the fungi monsters arrive, gas them first.

Basically try to kill the leadership and inflict maximum pain without trying to take ground.
>>
>>40118438
I agree with this. Also, we should take basic precautions for the general populace, such as handing out gas masks to everyone, so that if a spore asteroid does get through they will still have some means of protection.

Deploy the tanks, dig in around a secure LZ on the moon and wait for reinforcements. Use funigcide if necessary.

>55, partial success with a consequence
It seemed as the month drew on the fungus stepped up their attacks... almost as if they could sense what was coming. The surge caused a lot of casualties, and it seemed that with each passing week, the zombies grew larger and larger. However, the well disciplined Krigers held the line, maintaining the defensive perimeter with clock work efficiency, This combined with the new vehicles and mechanicus support meant the zombies never broke the lines for long, swiftly being pushed back.
The Inquisition arrives, Inquisitor Leon Delcome VII coming down to the palace to speak with you personally. Behind him are five death watch marines, one of them being a Librarian. "Governor." He says in acknowledgement. "These are the Deathwatch marines that will turn the tide of your battle. Now, do give me a full brief on the situation and everything you know about these... xenos."
>He only has 5 marines. What shall we tell him?
>>
>>40119367
Everything we know? No reason to hold back.
>>
>>40119367

>>
>>40119367

Spill the beans on all the details.

Honestly this situation sucks balls and being a tad frazzled is understandable. Be sure to mention that the Northern Pole seems to be the site of leadership activity
>>
>>40119367
Full disclosure, including what the pskyer has learned.
>>
>>40119367

Confess humbly everything that's happened. The Inquisition is already here, they know that the excrement has hit the fan.

Get the Librarian to head-session with the "Ordo Xenos Psyker" who's been on a walkabout. Claim that the psyker may have visions or knowledge we couldn't.

Also, be sure to mention the fungicide, because it's the Inquisition. They'll want to Exterminatus sooner or later, might as well make sure they have stuff that could (in theory) do the job without obliterating the crust.

Meanwhile, everyone pray hard to the Big E that no random cults, be they xenos or chaotic in nature, pop up while the Inquisitor's making his rounds.

You tell everything to the Inquisitor, who listens intently. You do find yourself a bit nervous, not just from the stress of the situation, but from being in the presence of the Emperor's Angels. After giving your full report, the Inquisitor nods, turning to his marines. "Thoughts?" He asks. The librarian speaks first. "The shield at the pole is psychic in nature. I felt its presence as soon as we entered system, and given that these xenos don't seem to use technology, it makes the most sense. I should be able to open it up, but only briefly." Another Marine speaks up, his pauldron indicating he is from the Raven Guard. "I believe the course of action is clear. We make landing at this pole with a contingency of guard to cover. We get to that shield and open it up. Once inside, we make our way to whatever that psychic signal is and use the fungicide to destroy it. This seems similar to how the Tyranids function, and the governor told us the zombies were less intelligent before the infected Eldar appeared. If we cut off the central mind, this xenos will regress to their bestial states." The inquisitor nods, turning back to you. "What do you think Governor? Can you spare the men?"
>Do we agree with this plan?
>>
>>40119611
Tell him yes we can but it might destabilize the landing zone already there and that the fungle monsters will converge upon them as soon as they make their assault.
>>
>>40119611
Yes. But be sure to mention the "xenos" psyker making his way towards the pole.

Leave the heavy armor divisions to hold the line as best as they can, they'd only slow the Astartes down anyway. Chimeras and Sentinels, with orbital fire-support if available, are the only armor support we can spare.

Troop-wise, we should rely on the Kriegers to hold the line, and deploy the PDF veterans (oxymoron, yes, but they've got to have toughened up somewhat) to support the Astartes' landing.

Propaganda campaign like a true Fascist. Rotate the vets who will make the landing off-duty where possible. Get them a decent meal, and some joygirls if it's even remotely possible. Remind them they're not fighting for your glory, they're fighting for their homes and the Emperor's sacred dominion. Hopefully, that'll give them enough grit to be worthy of dying so the Space Marines can get all the glory in the end.

You reassure them that you will commit an reasource you have to help in this, suggesting the Kriegers and the heavier vehicles are left behind to hold the lines while the PDF veterans and lighter vehicles are sent on support. The Inquisitor considers the response. "Very well, but Lord General Frederick should command the PDF doing the landing. We need his skill to make this happen. And with that, the operation is begun to be set into motion.

The ships begin heading towards the drop zone, Valkyrie after Valkyrie loaded with troops flying in formation. In the center is the Death Watch Storm Raven gunship. "Coming up on the target now." The lead Valkyrie reports... before suddenly an explosion is heard. The lead ship is hit, trailing fire. "EVASIVE MANEUVERS!" He yells before it is hit again and explodes. The spores had developed some kind of anti air. Valkyrie after Valkyrie is hit by explosive spores, the Storm Raven weathering the storm far better. "We're going to have to drop farther away, this field of fire is too thick!" All the ships quickly enter into hover mode, PDF deploying via drop cables while the marines simply jump out of the Storm Raven. The forces are forced to fight their way to the shield, many casualties being suffered, including one of the marines going down to an exceptionally large fungal zombie. However, they manage to reach the shield and establish a defensive perimeter, the librarian getting to work.

Seemingly pushed on by their loses, the PDF quickly open fire on the approaching zombie horde, the Valkyries and the Storm Raven performing a bombing run before withdrawing. The PDF fight with renewed fury, laying to waste to wave after wave of the insidious zombies, none of them getting close enough to lay a filthy tendril on their carapace armor.
Finally, the Librarian is able to break a hole into the psychic shield, the marines quickly charging through. They fight their way through some heavily armored fungal zombies, their foul growths almost as hard as steel. The Marines are stronger, however, fighting their way to the center... where they come across the abomination that is projecting the psychic signature. It is a massive blue glowing mushroom, looking almost like a brain. Attached to it are many infected Eldar, more than twenty of them all sharing their psychic might into one body. At the very top cap of the fungus is an infected Warlock, his body coursing with power. Upon seeing the Marines, he lets out a blast of electricity, the Marines barely able to dodge out fo the way. They would have their work cut out for them to deliver the fungicide.
>Potentially last roll. 1d100+10 for skill of the Marines. If they succeed, the fungicide is plunged into the monstrocity. The Marines open fire, bolt rounds and plasma shots firing straight at the xenos abomination. The creature deflects the shots with its psychic might, but one of them gets through, hitting one of the Eldar attached to it. It screams in pain, the whole thing surging blue for a second. "Aim for the Eldar attached! Spread out, force it to concentrate on multiple areas of fire!" An Ultramarine Death Watch member yells. Instantly the marines spread into a circle around the strange fusion of Eldar and fungus, dodging psychic shots and keeping up a stream of fire. The battle lasts several minutes, the creature deflecting shots as much as it can. But every so often, a shot would go through and strike its captive Eldar, causing the beast great pain. As each Eldar is lost, the creature begins to weaken, deflecting less and less shots. It lets out a defiant scream as a Salamander marine closes in and douses it in flames. Flailing about, the creature tries to put out the flames, not seeing the Salamnder draw a needle and run towards it. The Marine bravely charges through the fire and jumps at the creature, which only notices the Marine's presence mere moments before the fungicide is injected. The beast screams out in its death throes, the fungicide quickly going to work. The creature falls apart, parts of it dying and breaking off. Outside of the shield, the zombie horde all stop, shuddering as if they all felt some great pain. Finally, the creature bursts in a huge blast of psychic energy, the Librarian shielding the marines and PDF from the blast. The zombies all fall over dead, burned alive by the raw psionic energy. It was over.

>"Aim for the Eldar attached! Spread out, force it to concentrate on multiple areas of fire!"

(Also, solid writing so far, OP. Really enjoying this, and your updates are timely/regular as well. Fights are solid exchanges of blows on both sides, the story is developed through the dicerolls and a single (noncritical) failure does not immediately mean an unrecoverable disaster has occurred, plus willingness to say "oops" and correct gaffs is always great to see. Kudos to the GM, so to speak.)

I sure hope those were the Forgeworld Resin Kriegers... and that they were airbrushed, hand-painted, and delicately based.

>Nat 100, automatic success
Not only do the Kriegers hold off the zombies, they practically wipe out the whole attacking force before the fight is over. It seems the Kriegers usual high morale in fighting, even in desperate situations, was raised even higher know the war might soon be over and Space Marines were among them. They fight with the fervor of men possessed by the Emperor's Spirit itself, massacring wave after wave of the fungal horde. Even once the central nerve system was destroyed an the zombies all began to writhe in pain, the Krigers kept fighting, taking the opportunity to deal even more damage. Few survivors remain, which the Kriegers report as shaking off their pain eventually and retreating back into the woods, though not in the usual ordered method they had taken to since the appearance of the infected Eldar. It seems the zombies have completely reverted to their base intelligences once again, a shambling horde of easy targets.
Inquisitor Leon Delcome VII meets with you after the battle, you drinking amasec with your war council in celebration. The Inquisitor accepts a glass with a chuckle. "I'm afraid it is not quite over yet ladies and gentlemen, though the hard part is." He says, you freezing up in fear of more fighting. "Don't worry. My librarian reported that he looked into the mind of the central intelligence before it was destroyed and reported other infected Eldar unattached to the main stem. However, these ones are not as powerful and unable to exert as wide a zone of control. My squad is going to remain on Valencia for a while purging these xenos, lest another central intelligence be built. Besides, I wish to study these creatures. I'm sure you're okay with that?"
>Do we allow the Inquisitor and his men to stay in our midst?

But seriously, no problem.

Yes, though remind him how infectious these things are and that he should be VERY careful with them.

Also note that these probably aren't safe to use as a biological weapon, as they would wipe out both forces and then an exterminatus would have to be used to clear them out.

Let him stay and do as he pleases. Ask for the names of the fallen so that they may be honored with a proper monument to their courage and sacrifice.

"But of course Inquisitor, why wouldn't you be?' You say with a smile. "We owe our final victory to your marines leading our best PDF into battle." The inquisitor smiles and holds up a glass. "A toast then. To victory." He says, the rest of the war council toasting as well.
>The Fungal War rages on, but without their central intelligence, the zombie threat has been severely lessened.

To quote from memory Ciaphas Cain... "All men across the galaxy know that sinking feeling of, "dear, would you do me a little favor..." However, it is even less wise than usual to say no if the person asking is a representative of the Emperor's Most Holy Inquisition."

Still, he is an Inquisitor, and they suspect EVERYONE of Heresy. Heresy by thought, heresy by word, heresy by deed. Best to be on our toes, lest anything crops up while he's around that may jeopardize our little fiefdom.

In short, we're going to be acting like kids the last week before Christmas-er, Emperor's Day-until he is out-system. On our best behavior, lest little brother frame us for something naughty in the hope that Mummy and Daddy will give him our shiny toys while we get coal.
