It is the 22nd of May, 2015. Honestly, you’re surprised you made it this far; living in Seques isn’t without its dangers normally, but in the last six months it’s gotten drastically worse. The Underworld is scheming and latching its claws deeper and deeper into Helione’s flesh, bandits are becoming more common on roads, and people have been going missing by the handful.
Though it’s definitely not an isolated problem for your trading city alone, but the whole world is going through a huge spike in danger, governments are militarizing, corporations assessing their assets, and religions declaring Holy War on each other.
>>
>>40092320
It was November 16th, 2014, a day that will stay fresh in yours and every other inhabitant of Insolitus’ minds for life.
You were 16, a kid kicked out of home with nowhere to go; a week ago your foster parents had told you to ‘get out and never come back’ after getting in a fight with their real son, a scummy guy your age that just couldn’t leave you alone.

You’d also been hearing a few stories on the news about an upcoming Solar Storm, though it was mostly kooks and fear-mongerers that were trying to push the story out. No one thought anything of it –well, no one important, anyway; there were idiots that were buying ‘solar life insurance’ plans, and after all, what important person would even think of that?

But they seemed to be the more clued-on out of everyone, who knew the tin-foil wearing Undesirables would ever see the danger in something legitimate?

It was 15:30, typically time for some bullshit team building ‘activity time’ at the youth shelter you’d been living in, you were staying here until your best mate, Bettis Williams, finished sorting out his house for you to move in to.
At first there was just a huge flash of light; you were looking out of your window to the cobbled street below, watching hawkers hawk their wares to those unfortunate enough to cross their line of sight. There was this thin, short man with a thin beard that was harassing a couple that was walking past him, shouting what he must’ve thought was pure charm at the woman, judging by the way he was puffing his chest. The man was clearly angry, his whole body tense, it was taking all of the woman’s strength to drag her with him, when the sky lit up.
>>
>>40092340
It was brilliant and blinding. The intense pain it caused your eyes was over in less than a second, fading with the light.
Then, mere seconds later, there was heaviness in the air, something that just pressed you from all sides. You could compare it with gravity pushing at you from every direction at once, keeping you immobile. You could say it was as oppressive as the day before a storm.

Then, there was a Feeling, an indescribably uncomfortable feeling, it was in every cell in your body, painless and lasting an eternity. You could feel every single part of you, from the tips of your hair to the nails in your hands and feet, then, there was nothing.
When you came to, you found yourself on the wooden floors of your room, dazed and confused.
>>
>>40092364

What the hell was that!? You asked yourself through a foggy mind.
Then you heard a woman’s scream.
It wasn’t just a ‘frightened’ scream either, it was a terror-rich, blood curdling scream. You rushed to the window, where the scream originated from; what you saw turned your blood to ice.

A huge mass of protruding bones and rippling muscle, awaited you. The…creature... You guess it was a creature? It looked as if its bone structure had exploded from the inside out, there were protrusions covering its shoulders and back, bony nubs that were spaced erratically.
Everyone except for the woman on the street is backing away from the monster, trying to put the most space between them and it. The woman, however, is huddled a few feet from it, covering her head and screaming hysterically.
The monster pays her no heed, giving its attention to the man that has fallen in abject terror on the road in front of it. It advances with a limp, showing that its internal structures are clearly as ruined as it seems, the man –who you notice is the same thin bearded man that was harassing a couple just a minute ago- is too frozen in fear to do anything other than stare at his seemingly inevitable death.

What you saw next was 10 minutes of the most sickening acts that you had ever seen, 7 people are torn apart by the creature before the city guard arrived and killed it.

You heard reports all the next day, the whole of the youth shelter was sitting in front of the centre’s T.V, wide eyed as children.

You learned that outside of the shelter wasn’t the only weird thing that happened after the Solar Storm, there were reports of earthquakes around the whole of Seques, water pipe bursts, fires, more beasts running rampant through the streets. You learned that the whole of Helione was going through the same by the end of the day. The whole world by the end of the week.
>>
>>40092386
6 months later, things have settled down. You’re living with Bett now, taking up his fold-out couch. The sightings of creatures, the strange natural phenomenon? It seems it was more natural than we thought. Heavy research has gone into what happened that day, and it seems like the Solar Storm’s backlash to Insolitus seems to have ‘awakened’ something in some people’s DNA, causing them to go through changes. There are those that can shape the elements at will, those that can change their form into that of a beast, and those that can sift through your mind like flour; these people are being dubbed ‘Arisen’.
You are not one of them.
Yet.

It's kind of a mix between middle ages and industrial ages, with a bit of modern mixed in.
They have T.V's, used for news mostly. They have walkie talkie type of phones, not used for texting.
They don't have guns.
Roads are cobbled, not tarmac/concrete.
No cars.

Marcus Wertman is your name, you've just been quietly hanging around with Bett in the last few months. There's been a lot of instability lately, the city guard's numbers have been increased just to combat the smuggling and crime undercurrents of the city.
The roads are dangerous, so not many people that get out are able to come back safely, if they want to at all.

There's supposed to be another Storm coming up this afternoon. It's scheduled for 16:00.

>Current time: 13:14

>Go to Bett's room and talk to him about the Storm.
>Go outside, see how the rest of Seques is dealing with this

>Go to Bett's room and talk to him about the Storm.
>>

You're anxious. It's less than three hours until the Storm, and you're not sure what the hell's going to happen when it hits.

Some news station have 'leading scientists' saying that this one will have none of the effects of the first one, that they're not even sure that the Storm is what caused these supernatural things to happen.
But others are saying it's time to climb down to the basement and stay there for the next week.
You already know some people that are going to be doing that; at least three of the people living on Bett's block are going into hiding, they think it's going to be like short term Nuclear Fallout, that it''ll only affect those that stay out in the open.

You shake your head as you walk down the hall to your best friend's room. The house is a small one, with one bedroom, a lounge, a kitchen and a bathroom, it's perfect for 'young bachelors', as Mrs. Williams would say, while smiling knowingly.

You reach Bettis' door still in the grips of anxiety, knocking on his door after taking a deep breath. His answer is swift.

"Come in, Marc," his voice is slightly strained. This is taking a lot out of him, too.

You open the door and see Bett lying on his bed reading, though he sets the book down as you enter the room.

>...Hey

Congratulations! You've met Bett!
BETTIS ‘BETT’ WILLIAMS
AGE: 17
HAIR COLOUR: brown
LIKES: sweet things, honesty
DISLIKES: being rushed, coercion used on him.
You’ve known Bettis for 14 years, ever since your foster parents adopted you. You guys were quick to become friends in day care, and have been close ever since. He’s ‘got a good head on his shoulders,’ your foster dad would say. You would, without a doubt, say that Bett is your best friend.

>This is levels of fucked up, Bett. What the hell's going to happen?
>>
>>40093728
"This is levels of fucked up, Bett, what the hell's going to hapen?!" You ask, dropping all semblance of holding it together. This is fucking terrifying. What if you're one of the ones that go out of control in beast-mode? What if you're one of the ones in a drooling puddle for God knows what reason!?

"Marc. Listen to me." Bett sits up, putting on a stern face, "This Storm is going to happen, it's a given." That makes you feel a whole lot better. "But it's not a given that we'll be some of the ones to get effected by it!" He continues, getting up and walking over to his window.
"Jesus, look at all these people."

You walk next to him, stopping and gazing out onto the busy street, it's chaos. People are pushing, shoving, and jostling for position in their race to get home.
There's canned food, beef jerky, water bottles, and you even see a woman wheeling a cart full of puppies down the road.

You're interrupted in your thoughts by Bett picking up where he left off, "How many people were affected last time? There was only about 15% of everyone from Seques that got hit by the Storm, and everyone's acting like it's a certainty that they'll Hulk out or something; they're running over each other to get to their homes, they're ignoring the pleas of their neighbours, it's fucking terrifying."
But us? We'll be alright. We're keeping our humanity, so even if we are 'Awakened' or whatever the hell they're calling it now, we'll still be us. Don't worry about this, Marc, we'll get through this."

That's a lot to think about, it fills you with more questions than you had before.
What if we are affected and we don't keep our sanity? What if we're not affected and those that are attack us? What if this time the Solar Storm doesn't just 'Awaken' people, it kills them?

>Go chill out, have a shower or something.
>Talk more with Bett. (insert topic)
>Go outside and see what's going on.

>>Turn on the news, see what's going on.

15% last time. Likely have another 15 this time. So likely 1 in 3 people total hit if it same strength. More if it is stronger.
>>
I hope OP ain't dead.

>>40094086
As you turn to exit his room, you notice the book Bett tossed aside, "What're you reading?" You ask, leaning in to get a closer look at it. 'Helione: A Culinist's Guide' is written in bold on the front. What?

"Ah, we-that's nothing, Marc. Just a cookbook." He says firmly, walking over to pluck it off the bed. Is it just you or does he look a bit more stressed than usual?

"O-kay," you reply, walking out of his room a little more confused and a little less anxious.

You enter the loungeroom and turn on the T.V, flicking through channels until you get to the local one.

"In exactly two and a half hours, a Solar Storm will occur-" Comes the anchor's voice, it's deep and soothing, it reminds you of your step father's, he could calm you down from the worst of your 'attacks'. Ugh, let's not think about that. "-I'm sure you all remember what happened half a year ago when the last Solar Storm occurred, where a large portion of Seques were injured or killed in the aftermath-" what he doesn't mention is that is was a large portion of Seques that did the injuring and killing. No one likes to be reminded they raised a blade against family that day.

"As has been the policy of the Afternoon Report since we heard of the second Storm, we remind you that what has happened in the past is not what will happen in the future. Remember that."

From there, the camera changes to one in the street, a female reporter is interviewing people off the street, presumably about the knot of traffic that is clogging up the streets of the Market District. The next half hour is full of the half-mad that are convinced this is a precursor to extinction, to religious nuts that are certain this is a rapture, and to red faced man who seems intent upon blowing all the hot air possible out of his lungs in the slowest way possible.
>>
>>40094681
You flick off the T.V and check your watch.
>Time: 14:20
>Go to your room and do something (specify)
>It's getting closer, get Bettis to help you with securing the house.
>Go out and get some supplies.
>Dig through Bett's book collection and read something!
>Other (Write in)

Remember, you can choose more than one action.
>>
>>40093986
>>Turn on the news, see what's going on
>>
>>40094697
>>Go out and get some supplies.

Water and cerals and easy storable stuff to lasta mess for a bit.
>>
>>40094697
What supplies do we have? If we holed up in here, how long would we last?
>>
>>40094768
You have enough canned food to last for about 2 days, fresh food for around 1.
All up I'd say you could stay in Bett's little house for 4 days, unless something tried getting in.
>>
>>40094786
In that case
>Go out and get some supplies
>Tell Bett to start securing the house, just in case.
>>
>>40094806
It's going to happen, you remind yourself. Big breath in, big breath out.

Bett's cooking book has given you a bad feeling, so you decide to check the food cupboards. Though it's a normal house, you've always been surprised at the sheer size of the food storage places that are in this place; there's a double doored cupboard in the kitchen, opening up to reveal an absolutely massive space. It must be at least twice the size of a normal pantry! You check them, digging around the contents until you're sure you've found everything useful.
Next, you check the fridge. Like the cupboards, this is a very large feature, it takes up more room than by all rights a simple refrigerator should, and it goes back into the wall at least half as much as it should!

After about twenty minutes of looking around, you figure out you have about four days of food left, with less than half of that being canned.

Not as bad as it could be, you guess.

That's not much food, is it? Bett does eat a lot...

"Shit." You mutter, thinking about how to solve this. There really is no other way, is there? You have to go out to get more food.

>Tell Bett you're going out, get him to work on boarding up windows and doors.
>Get Bett to come with you, you might need someone to help you force your way through the crowds.
>Just go, you'll be out for a little while, probably be back before he knows it!
>Other (Write in)

>Time: 14:40

>Tell Bett you're going out, get him to work on boarding up windows and doors.
Maybe get some medical supplies as well, if we're short.
>>
>>40095203
You have $40 in notes, do you ask Bett to borrow any money?
>Y
>N
>>
>>40095263
>Y
Might as well, if he has any to spare.
>>
That decided, you again walk to Bettis' room, rapping on the wood of his door before hearing 'Come in.'

He looks at you inquiringly as you poke your head into the room.

"I'm going out to grab some more supplies; food, medical supplies and all that," you say dismissively, "But, I may have to borrow a little bit of cash, is that alright?"

"Yeah, yeah. That's sweet, 30 silver should be enough, right?"

"Yeah, thanks, Bett" You say, smiling.

You leave the house with a request for him to 'fortify' it. What the hell? He literally lives in a roomed cabin, what's he going to find to fortify it...?

You have two choices to pick from, you could go to the Market, it's going to be busier there, but there's more of a chance there's what you're looking for, too; or you could go to the docks, it's going to be cheap and less busy, but it does have a limited selection...
