Okay, snek fans, show of hands: I'm willing to try my hand, picking up post Katie's recovery. No running experience, though. Give it a try, or let it die?
>>
>>40043100
Honestly, Let it die. Doc had his own style and you have yours. If you want to make a quest let it be a new one so you can have your own voice. You could Do a RE: quest of lamia, nagas, or any other monster.
>>
>>40043192
Thanks for the input. I just hate to see it die so soon.
>>
>>40043100
Also, someone requested this in Decu's drawthread.

>>40043212
Quest based on good ideas and bad execution die all the time, Quests with a strong playerbase die rather less frequently. The quest was good, but any hand off is going to be vastly different by virtue of different writing styles, even if the authors knew the setting.

Have you read the other Re quests?

While I would love for this quest to live, I feel like what it went through with doc dropping it, and then with kap's well meaning trainwreck has caused a scar you really can't recover from.

Initial fans of it adored it, even if doc was kinda shitty - He was the endearing kinda shitty, and his writing was pretty much exactly what was needed for this type of character.

Most of its original fans were happy when kap tried to pick it back up, but the failure in execution was almost heartbreaking. Changing hands again, at this point, probably would not do much good. We hate it, we're sad about it, but it's over.

That said, I would still love to see this quest continue. My best suggestion, if you actually want to give it a try? Throw away canon and established events. Give us RE: Snake Quest from the ground up as your original work, not as a continuation of doc.

Rest in spaghetti, snek.
>>
>>40043253
I haven't, no. Honestly, I was going to go with a modified version of >>40043259's excellent suggeation (keep the premise and the evo system, but make mechanics modifications going forward). That said, they probably have a point: To continue on, I'd have to ditch everything to avoid grating and at that point it may as well be something completely new.
>>
>>40043343
The Re:Monster and Re:Lizard quests are pretty good and may be able to give you a hand with making the world and dealing with the systems of evolution and dice mechanics. As for a snake quest? If you do it do it from ground up, Katie is gone sadly, the hand off and M night Shaymalan Ending really hurt the fans.
>>
>>40043393
I'll give them a look. I have nothing but time during work hours, so I can easily catch up.
>>
>>40043393
>M night Shaymalan Ending really hurt the fans.
The fact that ending never happened is one of the few things I was thankful about in regards to the quest ending.

I don't think I could have taken Katie finding happiness and confidence and self-assurance, only to wake up and find out it was a dream.

What kind of sick bastard does that to anon?

>>40043430
Personally I like spider over lizard. Lizard quest is a bit wacky/zany, while Spider seems to have a fun pacing and character development to it.

Ultimately, you don't want to emulate one or the other a whole lot, but if you have to err towards one, then this anon would prefer well developed characters and plot over cute things and funny jokes.

Both is good too, but shouldn't be too ambitious.
>>
>>40043430
RE monster just hit 100 and sets up evo rules pretty well, it is also the more serious of the two

RE lizard started more recently and is abit more fun/zany.

Their just examples to help you form your own rules, world, and mechanics.

Also don't forget there can be evolved animals as well like one horned, rabbits, electric wolves, or iron bears.

Basically any non human or humanoid who takes class levels can evolve with enough conflict.
>>
>>40043527
So, literally, like E.V.O.?
>>
>>40043548
Not sure what that means.
>>
>>40043548
The old SNES game? Lizard's a lot like that, actually.

Spider lays out evolutions a lot better, though. I'd see if you could get into contact with REQM to discuss some finer points, but it also includes things like demi/gods blessings and such.

Basically the actions you take can sometime unlock special evolutions with unique benefits and stuff. Mechanically it's not set, exactly, so you as the QM would probably need to think up little "requisites" and their payoffs.
>>
>>40043610
I suppose then, the next big question is what do you, the participants, want to see if I do end up rebooting snake quest?
>>
>>40043737
Depends, Depends on how we'd died and our temperament before we died, and depends on how, where, and to whom we reincarnate. I'd love to see us explore and hunt, but living in your typical village won't do that, by the same token being alone from the beginning sucks hard.
>>
>>40043787
so maybe more of a tomboy wild child type rather than NEET.
>>
>>40043737
Interesting evolutions. Just becoming bigger isn't always better.

This goes without saying since it's writing, but interesting characters would be nice. I enjoyed Snek starting off with no family, it was a nice change from spider and lizard.

Where spider has a huge cast, and the main party itself is massive - lizard has a massive background cast, and the main party is pretty much just lizard.

I think you could do better cutting it somewhere in the middle. Snakes tend to be solitary, so while you might have some friends, you probably wouldn't end up with the entire forest of critters like spider has?

But you'd also have far less background clutter to juggle like lizard.

Also the whole "reptile brain taking for vicious hunting" thing? That was pretty cool. I enjoyed that touch.
>>
>>40043813
Depends, Sometimes all the Neet needs is a life threatening experience to turn into an adrenaline junkie.
>>
>>40043858
>>40043890
I'll take these under advisement. I haven't written in forever, so I'm going to have to ask you to bear with me a bit.

So: Revamp the evo rules, reboot snek and make her more misfit than full-bore spaghetti volcano, more solitary hunting excursions. Maybe some ruin delving?

Could be interesting, yeah.
Snakes like to lay their eggs in dark places. You could probably even have her hatch in a ruin and we play through her surviving the traps and predators in there before she ever finds the surface/exit and realizes there is more to the world.

Her first encounter with something would be interesting. A villager straying to far from home, maybe? Or a plucky greenhorn adventurer who just stepped foot in her home

And here I was just coming back from a Skype chat with Doc.U to find someone willing to try their hand at Snake quest.

He actually handed the quest, and his notes, to me saying and I quote "It's your debt now." "SNAKE QUEST WHEN". I-I'm not sure if I should now with the unanimous "Let it die" going on.
>>
>>40044096
debts don't work like that, doc. It will always be yours.

I don't think you should really try. The consensus seems pretty clear that the original thread is more or less unsalvageable unless you are literally Doc.U back from the britbongs.
>>
>>40044089
RE: Monster the manga, or the quest?
>>
>>40044118
I wish I was. That way I could actually run his quest. Sadly, I'm pretty sure he is never coming back from the Britbong Army, and if he does not back to Snake Quest. He handed me his trip and everything...

Maybe I should just try my hand at my own quest... if only I was any good at making characters. Using existing characters yes, coming up with personalities from scratch, not so much.
>>
>>40044173
Could try it both ways. Have RE: Snek and REboot: Snek.
>>
>>40044012

Quest.

Don't dive too deep into the source material, it's pretty bad. MC has some bullshit power beyond being a monster that lets him eat his way into becoming a swiss army knife of a magic and skills, then it devolves quickly into really badly written haremshit and such.
>>
>>40044207
Nah man. At this point if anon doesn't want me to pick up what Kap dropped and try to fix it. I won't. As much as I could turn around all the shit he did and probably do 3/4ths as well as Doc. The spirit of Katie needs rest. For all intents and purposes the quest ended with Doc and us trying to pick up the pieces isn't worth it in the eyes of anon. No kidding. Between that and the snakemom stuff, at this point I think the quest was destined for drama and decline anyway.

I think undead are generally treated as evolutions of other creatures in the source material, rather than starting out that way.

>RE: Slime quest when.

You know I had this idea for a slime quest way back. The player stats were to mainly revolve around control of Surface Tension, Viscosity, Acid.
You needed the first two to control movement and what forms you could take and the latter to determine what you could eat to gain mass.
I hadn't really worked out how intelligence would work.

The players would have started off in an abandoned wizard's workshop after the bottle they had been kept in fell over letting them escape. Seemed like it might have become overpowered too quickly, or the mass gain/loss thing would have been too hard to track depending on actions.
>>
>>40044700
>>40044762
>>40044863
>>40044901

I was the guy running a campaign based on Re:monster, what I ended up doing was having the different undeads being evolution of the different kinds of half-lords who went around eating sentient flesh, magicy ones became liches, ones with spell like abilities became vampires, ones that had ever been eaten partially (A finger or a scrap of flesh was enough to count for this requisist) by another became skellies, once that ate their own race became ghouls, ones that spent more time in dark places became wights ect ect
>>
>>40045399
Just literally become fantasy-blacklight. Slime ate someone and assimilated their biomass/memories, turning it into slime and confusing the slime into believing it was that person. Except it can't mimic flesh, just shape.

Go from there.

It's heartwrenching to see it die like this, sure... but it's already long past recovery
Kap tried his best, but just didn't succeed and we got what we wanted, but not what we needed
So let it die now, and start your own, but be aware of the responsibility you burden yourself with. the responsibility of telling a story and being looked up to. The responsibility to share a part of yourself as writer and hang on till the end, even if you feel bad at times.

Idea! Monster world pirates.

Most valuable ships to loot are those carrying coffee because you can sell to arachne in return for silk. Silk sails for faster pirate ships.
>>
>>40053422

I doubt Dr. Unoriginal even HAD long term story notes, from what I'd gathered he only planned ahead a few days at a time or so, at best he was likely only two to three threads ahead of where we were on at any time.

Most of his notes were likely world plot setting and general racial information, and probably a few hidden character charts for various NPCs.
>>
>>40054601
Coincidentally, this is why, unlike with RE. Lizard Quest, none of my hue ends actually fucked with his notes in any way, because his random encounter charts only had so much in them, most of which was not for long term. On the other hand, I fucked over lamb at least once by accidentally writing, and ruining one of his random encounter scenarios that could have potentially been dice rolled.
>>
>>40054601
He actually had very little in the way of notes. (As the guy who got them).

Like you said most were on characters and the location of the setting. He also had some plot notes from the setting.

The whole "Mom" thing was supposed to be an arc in which Katie's Aunt/other relative tries to abuse her for a quick buck and keeping her stuck there by promises of her actual Mom.

I think the real problem was the notes were passed on and written in a disorganized manner, most likely Doc had multiple ideas and just was jotting them down as he went along and that guy Kap who took over took each as word of god.

There were also notes on what happened to Salvia's husband, and the possibility of Cora being either a "child left behind" or Sirena's half-sister due to drunken mourning.
>>
>>40054567
You want to try and press gang a monster who from the egg can take any conventional animal on a good day? Arachne have knives for hands, spears for legs, and are at their weakest strong enough to break a man in two easily. Lord forbid it's got an evolution. THen it could take the ship on it's own unless you had some certifiable badasses on it. There is a very good reason spiders are scary.

Woohoo! Dogbold time! The real question is if we are going male, or following the long tradition of making all Re:Quest MCs Female.
>>

Lotus was thinking femc although a male mc would be alright, especially is he could snark.
>>
>>40055494
Female MC dogbold would be pretty fun, Hope he sticks with female instead of making it male
>>
>>40055543
I'm open to suggestions. I thought all monsters were monstergirls in this setting, like those rapey monstergirl Monster Manual pages you see floating about time to time.
>>
>>40055631
This isn't like MGE you can have both genders. For example the shitty manga RE quests were based off of had a male MC goblin. In both the other quests The mcs had male siblings. Basically you reincarnate as a different species of your same gender.
>>
>>40055663
This.
But make it a girl anyway.
>>
>>40055631
Nah.
The setting is a cross between something like classic d&d and a videogame- There's every fucking imaginable type of monster to be found, from feral things to giant animals to people type things.
Humans/elves/dwarves have class levels, monsters evolve at level 100 and can completely change form.
>>
>>40055681

For an RE: quest, limited-to-no chargen is best. You could chargen some social stuff if you want (was the person a bookworm / athletic / social butterfly / etc. in her past life), but you'll probably be better off avoiding anything physical.

>>40049190
Short lizard-men, lizard-dog-men, mammalian dog-men, fae, cutebolds, or something else? The race has been reportrayed and bastardized into so many forms that the name kobold doesn't really mean much by itself these days.. If one of the first two, kinda cold to the idea, but could warm up to it.

The MC of the light novel / manga was (before he reincarnated) from a future where soldiers had esper abilities and such. He had gained an ability to acquire other espers' abilities by eating them. When he died and reincarnated, he had lost all of his gained abilities, but somehow kept the cannibalism one. It's dumb stuff, just like the mind breaking rape factory bits, and has never played a factor in any RE: quest on /tg/ to date.

Other ideas for quest

RE:Mer - it'd e interesting doing an aquatic campaign, although the lack of land and being mostly fish may grate on some. Also changes in spell physics would make things different.

Re: Slime: Hard to balance properly, as slimes are usually either hella weak or terrifyingly strong with very little middle ground. Additionally pc interaction would be weird and likely nearly nonexistent since slimes are usually massacrefirst ask never monsters.

RE: Harpy. Lots of potential for eyes in the skies, although no hands would make min maxing harder. Still DFA'ing enemies would be a hoot and their are a lot of bird ttypes to choose from before evos are factored in.

Re: Goblin Yes I know this has been done, still it has potential if you drop the esper shit. Since goblins are so weak, maybe adding som in between teirs from goblin to hob and from hob to ogre would be in order too.

Also depends. Remember Lyrahad little such compunctions about eating things or eating them raw. Someone intelligent on the other hand? Freak out.

Difference between a deer and a human.

>>40061122
Sorry that that's an ACTUAL THING SOMEONE WOULD DO!
They won't just be a murder happy thing or be fine with killing someone sentient unless they are insane or a psycho

>>
Eh, from what I've seen instincts are slightly supressed by pre-existing ones, although places that didn't have conflicting information tend to get overwritten by the new body (examples,in RE: Monster considering raw meat a valid food source as there was not really any reason not to, were we originally a deer that might not have gone so well, or in RE: Lizard quest how many bits and pieces of genetic knowledge have to be actively recalled instead of passively recalled (its stated that the PC just lets her brain fill in those and concepts))

>>40061186
>Implying we can actually avoid it in a world like this where it is "No more Heroes, its kill or be killed. And if you want to survive you have to fight."
From the other quests, it's seemed to me to be a fairly standard fantasy adventuring setting, with towns and villagers and farming very much being a thing. Not something as grim as all that unless we start in a monster forest or in a culture where we're supposed to fight while still toddlers or whatnot.

>>40061302
Genetic memory and such are certainly a thing in this setting, yes. However, the only one of the three RE: quests where the new biology of one's brain did anything close to what you are saying was Snake Quest, and even then, the original QM never had it clearly override Katie's sensibilities. Rather, it simply resulting thoughts which were different enough that Katie disassociated with them (though she also considered that maybe that had less to do with her new body than she thought).
>>
>>40061497
Except Lizard brain let eh iguana know the food was good, and Let Lyra cope easier. Like I said difference between a deer and a human.
>>
>>40061497
Not true at all, First RE: snake quest didn't count as being quite the same, second of all the other two quests definitely did but in a more subtle manner, we were okay with eating raw meat in RE: Monster quest because it was only mildly repulsive normally and it was greatly approved by our instinctual mind of our new body, which made it approved. With RE: Lizard quest its obvious in the manner of which we know concepts we shouldn't know as we were an iguana, we literally shouldn't understand things like currency, capitalism, potions, magic, or any of these things without explanation, the fact we can recall it means its some form of genetic memory and not layover information.

>>40061576
Also fuck you asshole I was the one that made that analogy.

>Kobold lifestyle is fundamentally that of a warrior or Samurai.

>They eat their own kind many times. The strong inevitably feed on the weak. Fuelled by the ambition of one day becoming “Lord,” they kill and eat each other.
Holy shit these guys are even worse than I thought.

>When they rank up to Footmen, kobolds are furnished with a weapon called "Organic Spear." These are organic weapons made from the cells of the original body, so it seems that as the original body grows, the weapons grow with them. The bio-spears that came from their own bodies can be said to be an extension of their bodies, their spear handling are quite something.

>When Kobold Footmen rank up to Kobold Ninja, they have a different weapon from footman such as Kodachi called "Organic Sword." These are the sword version of organinc spear.

>As Kobolds rank up more, their appearance becomes more human-like. For Kobold Leader, he looks like a man in his late thirties. With dog ears and a tail, he carries a sword around his waist. Equipped with a kimono and vermilion colored gloves which have tones of black, he greatly resembles a Samurai cosplayer.

So from the manga at least the 2nd rank is fairly straightforward going to a footsoldier. Then for 3rd rank it branches off more into actual specialties like Ninja or Samurai. Presumably Kobold Monk could be a good 3rd rank option.

Kobold Mage probably splits off at 2nd Rank.

>>40061576
In Lizard Quest, Sunniva's brain informs her of stuff all the time, yes. Like I said, genetic memory is definitely a thing. But it's never clearly altered her sensibilities. Remember the first quest, when she got the first meal of her new life?

>YOU'RE EXPECTED TO EAT THOSE!?

She considered eating the green stuff lining the box, though the worms did smell good. The vote happened (and someone pulled out some iguana info), and then we see Sunniva justifying eating the worms with how she's known iguanas who have eaten bugs. And then she ate some, and really enjoyed the taste, and all was well. But as the story went, it was a thought out decision, not her brain overriding her sensibilities.
>>
>>40062055

We can become cool as a teen/second evo. Let's just enjoy the baby/childhood shenanigans while they last.

"How am I supposed to run with these!?"

"...carefully?"

Planning on going from babby to adult, like all the others. If so, giant balloons shouldn't be a problem for a little while.

>>

As long as I get a good number of threads of us being a cutsey little hyperactive kid then I don't care what happens to us after. The beetus will be satisfied.

I'm actually kinda hype for Genki Girl Dogbold quest now. Hope this one turns out well!
>>
>>40063166

Having strange, overly sensitive, mostly useless nubs along the stomach is funny, but I could take it or leave it. Overall though, the point of a monstrous character is to play off their dissimilarity from normal humans.

For wolf/dog-girl think we have:
> Wagging Tail
> Sensitive hearing
> Sensitive smell
> Hair in strange places
> Claws
>>
>>40063195
Try and imagine the mother trying to explain to the father that one of their daughters has spent the day doing pushups/squats or something else ridiculous

So let's be honest. Are we basically making Not!Polt?

Because I'm super down with that. I'm just wondering.
>>
>>40063295
Yes and no, We're obviously going to take OUR spin on things

Damn it man. Stop getting me worked up for this quest. It will never be able to live up to my expectations at this rate. Not unless you plan to have the first 15+ threads be childhood.

Kay, Cheers mate!
>>
I just want to be sure we're all on the same page here:

A story about an energetic, enthusiastic dogbold pup having fun adventures is what we're all signed up for?
>>
>>40063709
Sounds good to me.
>>
>>40063709
Yup! Eventually growing up though right? Like 10 or lower threads on us being a kid
>>
>>40063709
Signed, sealed, waiting to be delivered.
>>
>>40063736
10 minimum!

But yeah, Dogbold adventures is a go. Dogs are born blind and mewling what's up with that.
>>
>>40063709

Sounds a little like Dragonball, which sounds great. You'll understand if I wait until you get through thread one before I get too hype, but sounds good.
>>
Obligatory we're almost to autosage warning.
>>
>>40063783
I don't blame you. All I want is a chance to entertain.
>>
>>40063810
And a chance you shall get! For glory! For Freedom! For scotland!!

Appreciated, but I think we have what we need here. Dogbold doing dogbold things is go.

>>40063835
Oh, that's right: Flavor preference? I was going to go snowy pseudo-Russia, but somebody earlier mentioned pirates, so coastbold?
>>
>>40063853
We will have lower back pain soon enough. Don't hasten it.
>>
>>40063865
Do what you want man. Can't help where you are born.
>>
>>40063865
Honestly leave the setting pieces your own. You can work them better yourself, and can surprise us with them. Remember Kobolds were named as such cause the supposedly mined a lot of cobalt.
>>
>>40063865
>snowy pseudo-Russia
I like that more then pirates, Let's go with russia-esque one
>>
>>40063865
Eh i'd personally go for the pseudo-Russian one, That's just my opinion though, Seems like it'd be more fun
>>
>>40063865

Dropping her in a location from where she can eventually commute at the audience's request would be good. In the end, though, write what inspires you.
>>
>>40063865
Both of those sound awesome. I'd go with pseudo-Russian myself though.

Actually, would it be too ridiculous to also have pirates? Ships with icebreakers and whatnot?
>>
>>40063964
Viking raiders anon, or an analogue. Their ships go over the ice.

Alternately, I'd accept her being really tall, but still the "runt" of her litter. As in, she develops a short pups complex and then realizes that tiny human peoples are tiny.
>>
Anyways this anon's gotta pass out now, I can agree to the fluffy part but not the short part, Sorry, Seeya guys later, Looking forward to the thread Lotus!

Spaghetti snek quest?
uh, what happenef he-
>>
>>40066662
Someone started a quest about a hikki girl who died and got reincarnated as a spaghetti snek. He decided it was too much effort and handed it off to a well-meaning, but inexperienced (we don't blame you, Kap!) friend. It ded now.
