Welcome to Criminal Negligence Quest! You take the role of an aspiring supervillain looking to make a name for himself in this world. In the last thread you took on a new job and learned how to shoot a gun without killing yourself.

Character: http://pastebin.com/ReSHVYdT

You pack up your things, collecting your empty magazines and collapsing your pistol into a smooth red block of metal. Sliding the pistol into your pocket, you heft your compact submachine gun and say your goodbyes to Walter, who intends to do some shooting himself before the range closes. You duck through the heavy metal door into the store proper, pausing for a moment to consider whether or not you ought to purchase some more ammunition.

In the end, you decide you have to. You've already used up all the ammunition you took from Eli, at least for your SMG. You grab a massive cardboard box of 9mm parabellum rounds and drag it to the counter, along with a charging station for your pistol's batteries. It cost you a pretty penny, but it's an unfortunate necessity.
>Checking: $10,393

You get one of the employees to help you load the ammunition and the charging station into the back of your car. Actually, come to think of it, where are you going to put this? You can't exactly just plop two thousand rounds of ammunition in front of Rosa and tell her it's for a business meeting. She'll think you're planning to shoot up your nonexistent office.

You suppose you could tuck them into your hidey-hole, but it's only so large. It's barely large enough to hide your bulletproof vest. Maybe you should invest in a secret hideout, or something? You could probably just rent a storage container. There are a bunch of old bunkers sitting in the hills and a few scattered across the city, built during the last nuclear scare when Russia was openly threatening to launch its nuclear arsenal due to US involvement in Syria. A bunker would be incredibly expensive though. You could always rent a warehouse, but it wouldn't exactly be very stealthy...

>Swing by a real estate agent's office and ask about bunkers.
>Naah, just go to a U-Store and rent a container.
>Screw that, warehouses are cheap and easy.
>You don't need a hideout, you'll just hide your shit around your apartment.

So, I'm going to be switching to a Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule for Banished. Which means I'll run Banished tomorrow. I still felt the need to run something though and I've just gotten home, so it's CNQ time. I'll probably only run for four or five hours, fair warning.

Rent out a warehouse, we can shove a lair underneath it later on and run a legitimate construction company in the warehouse itself at a later date or if we need to launder money.
>>
>>40027440
Just all around bad, it's okay to hide from nuclear danger or foreign attack, but if someone targets us specifically, we can't hide there, they can just check recent purchases, and I doubt people buy bunkers often, so it's not a good secret lair, it's also not exactly subtle if found.

Might wanna post that on twitter for those that dont follow this quest but do banished.

I don't think we were actually going to buy them. It seemed more like a squatting in an abandoned building type deal, which runs into the problem of urban explorers finding our shit.

The bunker is probably the safest and most secure option you have. You might as well swing by a real estate agent's office and look into it. You probably don't want to right a check for it though. You have the cash, and it's best that the government don't know that you both bought a bunker and a shit ton of ammunition recently. You'll have a SWAT team raiding your apartment tomorrow at this rate. You'll probably want to set up some sort of payment plan, to avoid making a huge withdrawl from your bank.

You search for real estate agents on your phone and follow your GPS to the nearest office with the best reviews. Old abandoned bunkers have become pretty popular properties over the last few years, a lot of kids that grew up during the last nuclear scare are just getting old enough to afford a place of their own, and for a single bachelor a bunker really isn't that bad a place to live. Once they've been furnished, of course.

You reach the office in a few minutes. It's on the fortieth floor of a massive high rise building on the edge of downtown. You share the elevator with a handful of bored looking office workers and step out into a comfortable waiting room where a young man, probably just out of college, sits typing away behind a desk.

He looks up as you enter, plastering on an obviously fake smile. "Good afternoon, sir! Do you have an appointment with one of our agents?"

You step up to the desk, leaning your weight against the raised lip at the front. "No, I'm a new client. I'm just looking for a place of my own, something small and preferably inexpensive."

The desk attendant hammers away at his keyboard for a moment before turning his attention back to you. "That's wonderful, Sir. We have one of our agents available right now. I'll just need a name and then she'll come to get you when she's ready."

You've got a name in mind already, you prepared it during the car ride over. You deliver the lie without so much as hesitating. "Michael Abner. That's A-B-N-E-R. Abner"

The desk attendent taps away at his keyboard and then ushers you off with the promise that you'll be called back soon. You pass the time reading about the latest happenings in Europe. Greece is causing trouble, as usual. They invaded Albania and Macedonia a few years back and they've been taking territory every month, though there was a period last year when Turkey started backing Albania militarily that things got dicey. The UN keeps talking about mediating the conflict but so far they've had no luck.

Britain is doing well since they left the Eurozone, they're already well on their way to recovery after the crash of '39. Crime in mainland Europe is exhorbitantly high, but at this point that's just the norm. You're reading about a recent outbreak of violence in northern Germany when a woman, probably in her thirties and decently attractive, pops her head out of a door and calls your fake name.

You stand and make your way to the door, the woman greeting you with a smile and a surprisingly firm handshake. She's dressed in a skirt suit, professional but it shows some of her curves. You're led through a hallway to a spacious office with a view of the nice area of downtown. There's a park, and a number of buildings constructed in the layered style that's been popular lately. Where buildings are built on top of one another and each level is something different. This highrise is built in that style, actually.

The woman sits and straightens out her skirt before turning her attention to you. "A pleasure to meet you, Mister Abner. Zoe Clarke. Randy told me you were interested in purchasing a place of your own, small and inexpensive. Is that right?"

You nod, folding one of your legs over the other. "Yeah, I've actually been thinking about a bunker. I mean they're all over the place, right? They're supposed to be pretty hot at the moment. How much would one of those cost me, on average?"

Zoe leans back in her chair, steepling her fingers. "It depends. On the larger end they can go for as much as two, or three million but if you're just looking for a whole in the ground to sleep in I know a few properties near the suburbs that are going for around fifty thousand. How much were you planning to spend?"

You shrug your shoulders. "I was hoping to keep it around one hundred thousand but I can go up to a hundred fifty, maybe just slightly over."

A light gleams in her eye as she sits up just a little straighter, reaching over to turn one of her computer screens to face you as she brings up some program. "I think I have just the property in mind. Now, the bank is asking for two hundred thousand but I'm sure we can negotiate an amicable agreement. Would you like to hear about it?"

Ugh, here comes the sell. "Sure, I don't see why not. What did you have in mind?" They did the same exact thing with your apartment. Name some cheap, tiny shithole in the worst part of town and some giant penthouse downtown before hitting you with an offer just slightly outside your price range.

She selects an item from a drop down menu and you're greeted by the site of a cramped, but surprisingly comfortable looking bunker. It's got a massive bank of computers on one end, a toilet, and a small living area with a couch, a coffee table, and a TV. It looks like storage space is scattered about the place. "This property belonged to a young man who made his money off the stock market from what I understand but passed away last year whilst traveling through the Balkans. It's bank property, and comes fully furnished. All they'll need to do is turn the water and electricity back on."

It's tiny, and it doesn't have a shower, but it's not like you actually plan on living there. It should have enough storage space for all your things. "Where is it, exactly?"

The woman clears her throat uncomfortably. "Well, that is a bit of an issue. From my understanding it used to be built beneath a ground floor suite but these days the suite has been converted into a pho restaurant. The access is in the kitchen, so you will have neighbors. I assure you though that I've met Mister Nguyen and he's a wonderful man."

That's actually perfect for you, you'll have a legitimate front. Who would suspect to look for a supervillain's secret hideout in the kitchen of a pho shop?

You glare at her and the screen, vaguely irritated with the whole proceedings. "Two hundred thousand dollars, for that? It's a box in the ground with a toilet. I mean, there isn't even a shower. What am I supposed to do, shower at the local homeless shelter? Wash myself in the kitchen sink? I'll be sleeping on the couch if I buy this place."

Zoe leans forward, resting her elbows on her desk. "I know it's cramped but if you're looking for a convenient location you're not going to find anything for much less than two hundred thousand. Now, it has been with the bank for a long time so I can probably negotiate them down if you are interested."

You shrug your shoulders, trying to present yourself as not overly invested. "As I said, I would prefer to keep it around a hundred thousand. Unless you can cut the price in half I hope you have something else available."

"What if I could get it down to around a hundred and sixty?" She probes cautiously. You could certainly afford it, but you're not sure you want to spend that much.

Sighing wearily, you drum your fingers on your armres. You're trying to look contemplative. "I suppose I could swing a hundred and sixty, but just get it as low as you possibly can."

Zoe stands, offering you her hand to shake. You stand and take it. "Wonderful, Mister Abner. I'm afraid that's the only bunker property I have available at the moment anywhere near downtown but I'll contact you regarding negotiations and if I have anything else open up. Do you have a number I can call?"

You give her the number for your burner phone and the two of you part ways. All told you're in and out in about an hour. Not that bad, really. It's the evening proper at this point, and if you recall correctly Rosa had said something about wanting to go out tonight. You could probably make it back to the apartment in time to pick her up, or you could do some recon work for your next job. You still need to read that file your employer sent you.

You take out your phone, your real phone, and hold down the 'two' button once you've unlocked it. After a few seconds it starts to ring Eli's mobile, and on the second ring Eli's voice fills your car. "Yooo, Kaiser. What's up? Everything going okay with the helmet? The guns?"

You're dividing your attention between responding and backing out of your parking space. "Yeah, yeah. Everything's fine." You shift gear, motoring away from the highrise building. "Guns are great. Oh! Actually, the plasma pistol seems to have its projectiles just sort of fizzle out after a hundred yards. Great at anything less than a hundred yards, but after that it's useless. The compact SMG is great though."

You can hear Eli tapping away on the other end of the line. "I've actually been thinking about that. Like, what if I... fuck, I don't know. Had something inside the plasma bolt for the plasma to latch onto? That ought to help it maintain its coherency. Especially if I somehow magnetized it, but I would want it to be pretty powerful if I was designing the weapon for range. Maybe I could-"

You cut him off before he delves fully into some incomprehensible rant. "Listen, Eli. I don't have just a whole lot of time but I've got a new job I want to hire you on to help with. There's a mansion to the west of town, owned by some sort of scientist. I've been hired to steal something from his basement."

Eli blows out a sigh. "Shit, Kaiser. That ain't exactly a lot to go on. I mean, there are a lot of prominent scientist these days and for all we know your target might be some underground super scientist, like me. I'm practically impossible to find without a reference. Any more info?"

You happen to be at a stop light, so you quickly navigate your phone menus to pull up the file and glance through the most salient information. "Name is... uh, I think you'd pronounce it 'Preecha Metharom'. It's some East Asian language I think."

Eli scoffs. "His name is knowledge college? Sounds like a pseudonym but I'll see what I can find. I can tell you he's thai, or he's probably thai, so that sorta narrows it down. If you get anything else, get back to me with it. I'll contact you if I get any results and we can discuss payment then."

You're about to thank him, but the phone disconnects. Eli never was the best with people. The drive to your apartment building is relatively short, traffic is bad so it takes you about twenty minutes to go four miles but you manage. You park in one of the places reserved for residents and greet the guard at the door before riding the elevator up to your floor.

Sliding the fob into the electric lock, a little LED light flicks green and you pull the door open. You hear the TV on in the living room, judging by the gunfire and explosions it's probably some sort of movie. You also hear the sink on in the bathroom. "Rosa, I'm back from work!" You call out, wandering towards the bathroom to greet your girlfriend.

She slams the door, shouting back. "Just a minute! I'm, uh... busy!" You consider this for a moment, wondering whether or not she's got the shits, and then decide to wander into the kitchen and grab a beer from the fridge. Popping off the cap you collapse onto the couch, relaxing for a moment and watching whatever idiotic action movie is on at the moment. It's your usual heroes versus villains tripe, but fairly well done at least.

Rosa emerges from the bathroom a few minutes later, her hair concealing the left half of her face. She smiles nervously, giving you a little wave. "How was work, Monti?"
(2/3)
>>
You raise an eyebrow, suspiciously. "It was fine. Is everything alright? I was thinking we could go out to dinner after all, but if you're not feeling well-"

She interrupts. "No, no! I'm fine, nothing's wrong. I'd love to go out to eat, but I don't really know if I have anything to wear..."

You wave her off. "It's fine, we can go somewhere casual." Pushing yourself to your feet you walk over to her, reaching up to brush the hair away from her face and leaning in for a kiss. She flinches your fingers just barely touching a swolen purple bruise on the side of her face. It looks like someone slugged her.

You lean back, turning her chin gently so that you can inspect the bruise while she fidgets nervously. It's a pretty bad shiner. "What happened? Did someone break into the apartment while I was gone?"

She laughs awkwardly. "No, it's just... you know me! I fell getting out of bed and smacked my face against the table."

>Don't press. Ask if she really wants to go out tonight with a shiner like that.

Hah i rolled 1 more than last time.
>>
You deliberately fold your arms in front of your chest, tilting your head forward and raising an eyebrow. She tries not to meet your eye. "Is that seriously the story you're going with? Please, Rosa. I've never even seen you trip."

You sigh, letting your arms drop and walking back over to the couch. You plop down, plucking up your beer on your way down. "I mean, look." You pause to take a sip. "If you don't want to tell me what's up, that's fine. I'm not going to force you into it or anything. I will say a relationship is built on trust. If you can't be honest with me, how am I supposed to trust you?"

You can practically see it eating away at her. She's never been a particularly good liar, in your experience. She comes over to take a seat next to you, wrapping her arms around one of your own. "Maybe I haven't been entirely honest with you." She admits.

You decide to cut to the chase. "Look, you can tell me if you have powers. I'm not going to be upset. I'm not going to report you to the feds or anything if you're not registered." To be honest you're praying that she isn't, if she is in fact powered and not simply cheating on you or something.

Her ears turn red, an embarrased blush coloring her cheeks. "Wait, but how did you know? I was so careful..."

Your mouth slowly splits into a smirk. You'd had the creeping suspicion but you didn't actually think she was powered. "To be honest, I wasn't sure. I took a gamble and it looks like I won. So what can you do?"

It takes a moment for that to register, at which point the blush deepens and she slaps you lightly on the arm. "Sneaky bastard! I should've known, coming from you!" She pulls away from you, sitting back into the overstuffed couch cushions with a huff. After a momen'ts silence she actually answers your question. "I'm a pyro, for the record."

(1/2)
>>
>>40030207
Let me pre-empt you - tell her we can teleport a little and that's it.
>>
You were expecting some sort of agility enhancing power, frankly. Pyro works though. A lot of fire manipulators can generate a powerful enough jet to catch flight, though they tend to burn through clothes faster than most. "So how did you get the bruise?"

She sighs. "It's complicated." When she sees the look in your eye, she quickly corrects herself. "It's not like I don't trust you! It's just that I don't want you getting involved. I don't want you getting caught up in my crazy bullshit."

You're about to just lie straight to her face, play it off like she's good for telling you and that she should feel terrible for lying in the first place. Then your own words come back to haunt you. A relationship is built on trust. Should you really go against your own advice the very moment that you give it?

You breathe out a sigh, taking another swig of beer. It's good, a Belgian import. "I should probably make a little confession of my own, if we're being honest here."

Rosa rushes forward, throwing her arms around your neck and very nearly making you spill your beer. Fortunately crisis is avoided. "No way! I was sure you were just some normal dude. Half the reason I started dating you is because I wanted to know what a normal relationship is like!"

Heh, that's sort of ironic. You doubt any relationship you're involved in will ever be normal. She's not finished though. Having practically sat herself in her lap she continues. "I mean, what kind of lame super works as a financial consultant? Is that like, your cover identity? Like Superman being a journalist?"

You gesture vaguely with your beer. "I'm not actually a financial consultant. I mean, I was. A few years ago, before the crash. I found out I had powers during the First Awakening, and I lost my job not soon after. I'm telekinetic, and I can teleport." You pull down the collar of your shirt, tapping on the metallic band around your neck. "I've also got a few neat gadgets a friend of mine makes, though they're brand new. By the way, are you registered?"

Rosa sits back, folding her arms under her breast. "Here you are lecturing me about 'relationships built on trust' and you've been lying to me since day one." She says it in a good natured way, but she is sort of right. She's wearing the goofiest grin you've ever seen on her. "Anyway, nah I'm not registered. I was really young when I awakened, and I was raised out in the sticks, so they never came for me."

(1/2)
>>
A moment later she seems to grow perplexed. Realization dawns on her as she starts to put two and two together. "Wait a second, you said telekinetics and teleportation. Wasn't there a bank robbed yesterday by a guy with that exact same powerset? It was all over the news, like every channel was talking about it."

You take another swig from your beer, turning to face her with a guilty smile. "That's the other thing I wanted to admit." You don't really know how to go about saying this, so you'll just come out with it. "I'm kind of a supervillain."

Right now its a long running joke, and i think they will lose just out of tradition.

>>
>>40030724
i mean, do we really count as a 'super'villian? i mean, robbing banks, sure, but we're employed by a bunch of guys who have serious villian cred, what with creepy twin-ness, skull masks, probable fire powers (sprayed with flammable alcohol)-i mean, we're a jumped up, admittedly powerful, lackey, at least at the moment.

Jews.

>>
Alright, it's time to take stock lads. What do you all want out of Rosamund? Our relationship? What are your optimal outcomes?
>>
>>40030864
Hopefully neutral, but if she is a hero i guess stay out of each others way, and try to avoid civilian casualties.
>>
>>40030864
neutral, at worst a non-murderous rivalry, at best she's villianous too, or we corrupt her to be. mmmmmm, delicious corruption
>>
>>40030932
>>40030947
I think what we need to establish is that we don't want to bring our jobs into the house. That we don't care about the whole powers thing, and that we still want her.
>>
>>40030824
but we havnt done anything too horrific. robbing an insured-to-the ass bank isn't supervillianous, its on the same level of selling drugs to 15 year olds, or robbing a politician. we havnt created an army of rape-zombies, we havnt ransomed the entire state of texas with an atom bomb, we havnt even employed third-worlders in sweatshops.
>>40030953
honestly, as long as she remains a character rather than being murdered or roasting us to a crisp, i dont mind
>>
>>40030993
Few people died though. And we shot some of them.

We're not really employed. We could play up the angle that we're doing this to create a dream life for the both of us.
>>
Honestly, I think a major problem here is motivation, and that this is an issue in a lot of Soma's other quests too. Why are we risking our life and limb on these assaults when we don't really have to?
>>
>>40031012
>a dream life
doesnt really work when we're building it off stolen proceeds. and the people were policemen and possibly a federal-employed super, not exactly old ladies and an orphanage

Draconic Breath should have been kept anyway, once it's won, not just left to atrophy. And then they didn't even get Sonic Scream, they got eyebeams.
Character arc where JJ faces his fears and finally gets over his fear of fire and starts using Draconic Breath, when Joyce is there as well, would have been GOAT
