>In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only... GOVERNMENT!
>You are John Erlwise Shabti, an imperial noble who was granted governorship over the planet Valencia. From your capital city in Valencia Prime, you over see the development of your planet and the growth of its power.
>Last thread the Fungal Wars began as a meteor from the moon crash landed on the northern continent, spreading a plague of moon fungus, creating many zombies. Our northern city was almost over run, but we managed to hold them back long enough for our Krieg allies to arrive.
>There are still many fungal zombies in the north, but their numbers have been thinned and spread out. However, there are reports of Eldar infected zombies on the moon that are leading the others, capable of unleashing psychic powers
>Lord General Frederick of Krieg is currently over seeing military operations against the zombies.

You sit in a meeting among many advisers and representatives from the various factions that have invested in your planet. The mechanicus, the ecclesiarchy, and the Death Korps are all there, discussing what should be done next with the war. While the land invasion has been halted for now, there is always the risk another asteroid could be launched. However, an attack on the moon could be disasterous with the zombies' superior numbers, and the mechanicus are talking about creating a sophisticated orbital defense grid to destroy any more meteors. However, that plan could take months until completion, meaning we would have to fight off more land invasions until it was done.
>How shall we decide to carry out the war? Defensive, offensive, or something else?
>>
>>40023859
Have Ships intercept the asteroids and bombard the moon.
>>
>>40023897
You decide that, for now, the best course of action would be to use your ships to intercept any asteroids while bombarding the moon. This will ensure your ground forces can clean up efficiently, while also keeping the fungal zombies from landing hopefully. Most of the advising council seem to agree with this course, though a few say it is merely a delaying tactic at best.
>1d100 for effectiveness of our space defenses and bombardment. First 3 rolls are averaged.
>>
>>40023859
Wasn't the mechanicus working on some kind of anti-fungal agent? If we could dump that stuff in the atmosphere of the moon we could wipe them out without having to land.

The bombardment plan goes very well. Your ships, having learned their lessons from last time, set their massive laser weapons to disperse more, rather than concentrate into one beam. This results in many wide spread fires raging across the fungal moon, clearing miles of the foul plant within mere days.
>>40024201
>The mechanicus are working on an agent, but need specimens to study to develop an effective one
You are approached by the arch priest of the cathedral, Danelus. "Governor, if I may." He says, always respectful. "Would this not be a most important time to call in for reinforcements? The kriegers are doing all they can, but there is an entire moon of those foul xenos. And while our men surely have the light of the emperor in them, perhaps we should call on those more faithful and powerful. An Adeptus Sororitas convent, perhaps?"
>How should we respond? Is it time to call in for more help?
>>
>>40024406
Hmm...the Sororitas are elite troops but they can also get...over zealous. We need to keep a cool head in dealing with this threat.
As long as we don't roll shit between the Kreig and Mechanicus we should have this covered.
>>
>>40024406
Yes that may be wise, but one of the orders with a cooler head may be necessary.
>>
>>40024406
"I am sorry, preacher, but this really should have been brought up in the meeting. I dislike sending soldiers down to fight while the enemy had a way to turn our troops against us. So far, space is serving as adequate containment."
>>
>>40024724
"Sororitas would be useful but I need to know if they can temper their zeal. The last thing we need is a convent rushing into battle and getting themselves infected."

You inform the priest that while sororitas would be useful, they are also over zealous and you do not want to risk any more soldiers getting infected. You reaffirm your faith in your soldiers, the Kriegers, and the mechanicus's capabilities to fight off this thread, as well as your navy in their current bombardment plans. Danelus frowns. "As you wish governor. I just hope the Skitarri and PDF do not begin to lose faith as the war drags on."
You are soon contacted by Helena, the mechanicus representative that works in Valencia Prime. "Good evening governor. I am contacting you as the mechanicus wish to know if they have your permission to collect bodies of the xenos we are fighting in order to work on a fungicide. We know you discussed this as a possibility, but we wanted to have full affirmation before we moved forward."
>Shall we let the mechanicus experiment on the fungi, hoping they find a poison to kill them?
>>
>>40025008
Yes, but contain it somewhere that would not be catastrophic if a break out occurred.
>>
>>40025008
Lets do more than that. Gather a retinue and oversee this project personally.
>>
>>40025076
If we roll badly on this then we're fucked.
Yes, but make sure you observe the strictest quarantine protocols. (Didn't they have a research base on the northern continent?)
>>

>>40025115
We are less than useless as a scientist. Let them work on their own.
>>
>>40025115
They have a research station on the northern pole, where we mine the coolant.
>>
>>40025137
This has the capacity of either ending the fungal menace or infecting the continent again. I think it's worth it.
>>40025115
Yes, at the north pole. Thread 3.
>>
>>40025180
Lets conduct the research there. We're already conducting a campaign there and we shouldn't risk an outbreak on another part of the planet.
>>
>>40025231
Why should we do it personally with our retinue ? Let the tech heads do it.
>>
>>40025044
>>40025115
>>40025231
>>40025261
You inform Helena that they have your full consent only if they do the experiments up at the pole. Helena nods her head. "Affirmative. We figured as much. We shall contact you when we make progress."
A few days pass and you get word from the fleet. The bombardment campaign was proving to be less effective. Something has changed and the mushrooms are now resistant to the spreading fires, their caps more armored to withstand blasts from orbit. An invasion meteor launched recently proved unusually more difficult to down than before, taking many more hits than others. The fungi are adapting somehow.
>What shall we do? Keep up the bombardments in the hope they keep doing some damage? Or change tactics and try something else? It might be time to launch an invasion of the moon, or should we focus on wiping out those on Valencia fully first?
>>
>>40025476
Ask the Death Korps if they can spare a regiment to do what they do best: take and hold. Launch an invasion of the moon. Land in the areas cleared by bombardment and set up hardened defensive positions.
>>
>>40025476
Continue bombardment have one ship burn out a landing area

meanwhile destroy everything else of it on our world.

You tell the navy to stop the bombardments and get into contact with Frederick in order to invade the moon on the beachheads established by the bombardments. Frederick seems eager at this, mentioning that the ground forces still on planet are paltry, and three pdf regiments with a krieg regiment would be able to handle them. He asks for permission to land with a greater force than just one regiment, believing that he can accomplish much more that way.
>Shall we let him go with a full on invasion or keep it restrained for now?

If he believes the situation planetside is under control then let's let him loose with four regiments.

You give the general your support, telling him to go through with the invasion. You also tell him of the priest's concerns and whether the Adepta Sororitas should be called in. At this, Frederick scoffs. "The sororitas have their place. They are an offensive army by nature, launching wave after wave of attacks, their power armor protecting them just as much as their miracles. However, this is a defensive war and no place for over zealousness. We must be careful and maneuver intricately in order to win." With that he leaves to begin preparations for the invasion. In record time the invasion is launched.

The fighting is hard. As soon as they make landfall the soldiers are harassed by hordes of the fungi. Fortunately, Frederick's and the krieg's discipline keep the soldiers cool and calm, establishing trenches and fortifications, creating base structures, and getting artillery guns into place. Within a day the Krieg have established many impromptu forts on the planet to fend off the zombies and make more landings. The zombies keep attacking, only to die in droves to heavy bolter and las gun fire. Slowly, but surely, they are pushed back.
>A beachhead has been made and the zombies are slowly being pushed back. Now, it is the end of the month, so let's do a roll for the mechanicus's successes in trying to make a fungicide. A failure will result in an outbreak, a partial success will represent some progress and will give a bonus to the next roll, while a success will mean a potent poison has been made. 1d100, first 3 averaged.

(Back. Going to make intermittent posts through the day)
The fighting carries on as more and more troops are shipped to the lunar front, the northern continent largely free of those xenos filth. However, an issue has arisen from funding. You citizens have been paying their taxes, buying war bonds, and contributing as much as they can to the defense of their home planet, but it is turning out not to be enough. By this point, you may end up in debt to your allies by war's end.

>>
>>40032229
Which allies are we paying? The kriegers and skitarii are supposed to help defend our planet. They are obliged to do it as part of our deal, not us hiring them to help. Unless its to pay for ammunition, supplies and new equipment.
>>
>>40032228
>>40032264
You institute a policy of increased taxes on the poor. While this does go over popularily with you general populace, your poor population is actually quite small and this measure will only buy around 2 months of extra time.
Meanwhile, Frederick contacts you saying he is having the army start searching for the Eldar zombies on the moon now that a beachhead has been established. However, they are proving to be scarce, with only one reported spotting of them since the invasion began. He suspects some kind of plot.
>What should we do to assist? Or do we believe this to be mere coincidence?
>>
>>40032475
Can we get our ships to do a scan on the moon to see any high activity areas or staging grounds? Also double check on any nearby meteorites incase they are aiming to blitz our planet. Make sure any transports that go in and out of the moon are checked carefully in case of infiltrators.

>>
>>40033026

>>
>>40033246
Well we haven't gone bankrupt yet. Let's see if we can vanquish the the fugal threat in two months.
>>
>>40033272
Not probable. We don't have enough Promethium to scorch the moon and pushing out of our defensive position will cost us alot of men. You also have to consider the fact that the infected elder may have a trump card like abandoned elder tech or may employ guerilla tactics or contaminate our supplies with spores.
>>
Can we get an analysis form the AdMech regarding the effects of performing exterminatus on the moon? Just in case this goes horribly wrong, I want to know what our options are.
>>
>>40033362
We don't have enough to cleanse the moon but the imperial navy will be able to. There is no actual need to perform exterminatus on such a small target, there is no actual justification to warrant it when it can be handled in other ways.
>>
>>40033333
The fungus has been fire resistant for a while now. The way I see it we have three possibilities for ending the conflict quickly:
1.We get really good roles on our conventional actions.
2.The AdMech finally comes through with the fungicide.
3.Risk calling in the SoB and hope they can get the job done. They are an offensive army after all.

If our money runs out I think we should seriously consider pawning our frigate or getting a loan from the administratum. There's really nothing more we can do to squeeze revenue from our people without really ticking them off.
>>
>>40033422
They are only more resistant to fires. Not total immunity. Are you saying a full on barrage by the imperial navy won't be able to cleanse the fungal moon? Just wiping out all the foliage and spore producing areas would deal a great deal of damage to the infected.
>>
>>40033246
What about the STC?
>>
>>40033477
It makes lasguns... I don't think the QM ever told us if there was anything special about them.
>>40033460
I understand the distinction. The thing is: do you think we'll be able to get the Imperial Navy to bring in enough ships to bomb the moon into oblivion? Also we really need o follow up any bombardments with a ground campaign the QM has kinda hinted to us with his past posts that we can't just expect to bomb these things from orbit and hope that'll be enough.
>>
>>40033535
We should be able to due to the fact that xenos scum are encroaching onto Imperial territory and possibly through the influence and backing of our family.

I don't expect to wipe them out but he has stated before that we didn't have enough promethium to bomb it. If we get the Imperial Navy they would be able to wipe out large portions of the fungus reducing the risk of marching through large areas of forest with no visibility.
>>
>>40033588
I doubt the Imperial Navy will respond while our own ships are able to contain the threat. At any given time they have their own stuff to deal with throughout the sector. Still I suppose there's no harm in asking.
>>
>>40033246

Guys, Diaz never picked up his coolant this month, maybe we can sell it at a markup to the local sector? We don't have to explain that we're currently in a shorty financial state and that they should pick up the shipment in orbit around the gas giant world at the outskirts of the system, no need for our trading partners to see how deep in shit we are.
>>
>>40033588
>>40033683
>Sorry for not responding for a while, posting from my phone at work
You decide to try and contact the imperial navy for assistance. A few days pass before they respond, stating that most of their ships were busy, but they could spare on, the Spear of Dawn, to come assist. It is a full on battleship, bigger than our corvette and personal family ship. However, if needed it could be called away at a moment's notice.
You receive a communication from the squad that accompanies Septimus everywhere. They report he is coming back to Valencia Prime and wishes transport up to the moon. Said something about seeing the entirety of the planet will help narrow his search for the "source"
>Shall we permit him this, or is risking a psyker to infection too risky?
>>
>>40034098

Too risky. Don't let him up. The last thing we want is weaponized psyker fungus zombies.

Tell him we have him free reign over Valencia and that will have to do. Also what the fuck has this idiot been doing for a whole year that he hasn't found anything yet?

If he hasn't come up with anything in the next three months we should have our squad execute him on general principles.
>>
>>40034098
>Permit him this.
>>
>>40034311
They already made weaponized psyker fungus zombies out of the eldar. Unless you'd rather wait for the AdMech to do their thing I suggest we let Septimus do his.
>>
>>40034098
Let the guy do it. if it brings us a step closer to ending zombie I would like it.
>>
>>40034329

Alright, let's compromise by having our squad carrying very high yield explosives so that if things go to shit on the moon, they can selfdestruct rather than let the zombies get their hands on a very powerful psyker.
>>
>>40034370
Good point. But can't they just tell the psyker to kill himself rather than get bit? Let them bring the explosives, might be useful. I also want to see how they're doing. Patch me to a servo-skull or something.
>>
>>40034426

I don't trust the Psyker to do the right thing and off himself, frankly. He never seemed totally balanced and never really explained himself either.

If I had my way I'd give selfdestruct explosives to his security detail and also keep a firing trajectory on their location while they're on the moon for safe measure.

Also I recommend that we use the fungicide on Valencia only first to reclaim our territory before using it on the moon. If the fungicide doesn't work we should take out a loan and buy an Exterminatus warhead to eradicate all life on the moon.
>>
>>40034511
Good idea, but Exterminatus too harsh. We attack Valencia now, then see what we can do.
>>
>>40034540

I mean, we have plenty of opportunity to collect the fungal samples on Valencia. I see no reason to always worry about a whole moon full of fungal zombies always waiting to invade us.

Set the whole moon on fire and then turn it into an orbital defense platform once the fires die down.
>>
>>40034560
Why don't we see about deploying corrosive chemical weaponry onto the surface alongside using the battleship to use sustained lance strikes along great sections of the moon in a slow burn off of foliage?
>>
>>40034564

We could definitely check with our advisors but the fungus is fairly fire resistant at this point.

If we don't want to Exterminatus then we'll have to clear the whole moon with armed regiments and fungicide, assuming that it works.

Then again, we're going to have a truly badass PDF if we do this manually over the next year or two.
>>
>>40034312
>>40034351
>>40034370
You inform Septimus that he may go to the moon, but you inform his squad to kill him if things go sour and get out immediately. A few days after he departs from the moon, you get a transmission from Septimus. He looks very on edge and has a pained expression on his face. "Governor... I believe I may have found whatever malignant intelligence is commanding these foul creatures. There is a... large psychic signature on the northern pole of the planet. Very powerful and almost always active." Each word seems to cause Septimus a great deal of pain, and he grits his teeth between sentences. "Even now it fights me... I shall be returning to Valencia. I can't find the source with all this noise. Destroy that thing at once." With that the transmission cuts off.
>what do we make of Septimus's message?
>>
>>40034631
Armoured push into the North supported by drop troops if we have any, if not smother or burn off the entire northern pole with a mid powered but sustained lance beam from the battleship.
>>
>>40034631

Sounds tactically viable.

Deep auspex scans on the north pole of the moon and try to locate whatever biological aberration is commanding the zombies. Inform the Krieg commander and AdMech that enemy command has been located and ask for their support for a full scale strike to end this war asap.

After this we should focus on economic development though, we're definitely running up some debt.

As soon as the war is over we should relax the taxes on the poor immediately.
>>
>>40034687
>>40034684
I say we request the battleship to focus lance strike it to death, followed by chemical fungal defoilant and from there an intense burn off.

Then we strip mine the entire system and go the full Stalin with economy.
>>
>>40034709

You have my support for Full Stalining of the economy.

It would be nice to exhaustively scan the system for any traces of xeno activity and flood the system with auspex drones though.
>>
>>40034729
Okay, how about this:
>Request battleship to scour both Poles with focused Lance strikes for a few days
>Send in the Kreigers and Mechanicus goons
>Kill off control node and transplant a small section of it to a small planetoid in system, if not drag a sizable meteor in
>Grow fungai and see about controlling the zom zoms for ourselves
>Market them off as expendable soldiers
>Stalinize the economy off those funds
>>
>>40034789

No way, bro. It's heretical to use xeno intelligences in this manner and we just escaped an Ecclesiastical cornholing two threads ago.

Also I have strong doubts about controlling a mini hive mind. Better to just destroy the infestation and mine the moon traditionally.
>>
>>40034816
>>40034816
Okay good point there, so how about the revised edition:

>Battleship scours all life with sustained Lance bursts for a few days at a time
> clear on foot with ground troops for the following weeks after
> build a base on the moon and some vital economy
>Stalinize the ENTIRE SYSTEM over the next 5 years?
>>
>>40034907

Sounds good. We're actually a fairly popular guy right now so as long as we maintain a good reputation and do right by the people we should be okay.

Let's also strengthen our contacts with the common man, we have the beginnings of a spy network and it would be great to spot heretical cults way before they start summoning daemons in basements.

However, within a day of you giving the order, you receive grave words from the captain of the Spear of Dawn. Whatever is in the pole is shielded, lances harmlessly bouncing off of the invisible force field.

Use the fungicide to clear the fungal infestation from Valencia and establish a network of asteroid defense cannons in Valencia orbit like the AdMech suggested. We'll able to repurpose these later for general defense.

Continue to invade and clear the moon of fungal troops. Hopefully we can learn more about the enemy as we clear ground.
>>
>>40035184
The AdMech is still working on the fungicide, we don' have it yet.
We also have money problems so I doubt we can jut start building defense cannons.
>>
>>40035225
We'll note that planetary defense for later then. When money isn't an issue, and maybe war neither.
>>
>>40035155
>We do not have anything of the sort
>>
>>40035302
See what I mean? Idiots and trolls lying to them. Better off bumping it.
>>
>>40035302

Alright. Ignore the shield for now and continue to claim territory on the moon.

Be sure to auspex our claimed territory to identify power signatures or anything that would clue us into how the force field is being generated.
>>
>>40035378
>>40035109
FUUUUUU... Okay, delay the invasion, we go full Avatar now, use the battleship to prevent attacks on Valencia and burn off the jungles in 50km segments around our outposts on the moon. Establish full bases there afterwards, for economy should we build anything?
>>
>>40035378
>>40035184

You order for the invasion to be delayed until we can ascertain what is generating the force field. You order for recon teams to survey the area while auspex scans are taken.

Many recon squads are lost, and auspex are run day and night but the source of the shield cannot be found. Whatever it is, we cannot detect it.
Meanwhile, your navy soon detects a ship signal. Roman Diaz has arrived out of a warp jump, contacting you. "Apologies for my lateness governor but I had a situation with some Eldar corsairs. Tell me, do you have my coolant ready?" He says, his ship heading toward Valencia.
>Should we give up the coolant? It would give us money, but would require using one of our ships to deliver it.
>>
>>40036092

Deliver it. We need the money.
>>
>>40036092
Yes. We'll conclude that quickly, honor the agreement and all that, and then put that money to good use.
>>
>>40036092
Honor our agreement.
>>
>>40036092
Yeah deliver the coolant. We can spare a ship. BTW was there anything special about the lasguns Diaz's STC could build?
>>
>>40036360
It's an STC, the mechanicus would probably gift you a second planet if you give it to them.
>>
>>40036634
Didn't we already give it to them so they could make the lasguns?
>>
>>40036121
>>40036182
>>40036360
You up hold your agreement, delivering the coolant to Diaz in exchange for a hefty sum of thrones. Before his ship leaves, Diaz contacts you one last time. "Say governor, can't help but notice all the explosions on your moon. You seem to be having some trouble. What say you I import some stuff next month to help you out? In exchange, I get a discount on my coolant."
>Shall we take the deal

What are you offering?

Yeah lets find out what he has in mind before we buy.
>>
>>40036761
>Diaz sold us the STC and we have been holding on to it since iirc.
>>
>>40036843
We should totally give the STC to the AdMech then. The "Valencia Pattern Lasgun" would make for another export commodity and potential revenue stream.
>>
>>40036790
>>40036833
Diaz shrugs his shoulders. "Whatever you want. Guns, tanks, you name it. Within reason of course."
>What should we ask him for?
>>
>>40036917

We have an STC, tell Diaz we changed our mind.

Go 70/30 on production and sale of the Valencia pattern LasRifle with the AdMech
>>
>>40036917
Tanks, specifically: Demolisher and Executioner pattern Leman Russes. We need something to crack the last remaining fungal strongholds and vapourise them for good.

Hellhounds
>>
>>40036761
That was from a black library novel( gaunt's ghosts series). Never take anything in those as canon. Although, you are right that STC are very important, a bit of coolant was a ridiculously low price.
>>
>>40037115
>It was more than some coolant, he set up the entire trade deal with us for coolant every month in exchange for the STC. It is a long term investment vs. a short burst of cash
>>
>>40037050
Sounds, that should help with those mushrooms and when orks resurface.
>>
What is wrong with you guys, GET BASILISKS FOR DEATHKORPS.
>>
>>40037291
The moon landing post says they already have artillery. The korps came with their own equipment.
>>
>>40037291
No. The living Moon Shroom stronghold is protected by a shield that can withstand bombardment from a BATTLESHIP. We are not going to kill it with basilisks.
>>
>>40037454

Might be a good idea to toss a couple shells at it now and again to test it though. If we can conquer the rest of the moon and trap them at the north pole, that would be ideal.
>>
>>40037291
>>40037446

>>

Mine's already running. Novice Heretek Quest.

It is by no means reaching its end but I have toyed with the idea of continuing the story in a similar way to yours if the players manage to achieve the good ending and the MC becomes planetary governor or something similar.

Not going to copy you, just trying to get hints and ideas about how such a civ/adventure quest might run.

You tell Diaz that you need tanks above all else and to see if he can get you some of those. "Very well, I shall return with your vehicles." He says before warp jumping away.
The rest of the month passes by in relative silence, the war dragging on. The kriegers have reached a stale mate, unable to expand farther. However, the zombies keep coming and keep getting shot to pieces, so their numbers are dropping faster. However, at the beginning of the next month, something changed. The glowing eldar infected zombies returned, now much larger than ever before and covered in tendrils. They lashed out at troops, blasting them with eldritch lightning, shrugging off shots, swatting tanks aside. The moon army is slowly being driven back.
>As it is the end of the month, we get another roll to see if the mechanicus developed the fungicide. 1d100+10 with the first 3 rolls averaged.

Frederick manages to pull the army back into a defensible position. Unfortunately, the long fighting of the month is hard, and the soldiers are slowly worn down by fatigue and the constant attacks. They have not been over run by month's end, however, and the fort still holds, but if something doesn't happen soon, you risk losing the moon.

Let's save the fungicide for the leaders, we don't want them to build up a resistance to it just as we're about to strike the final blow.
