Clair is already out and you can see Robin’s eye roll upwards. She’ll pass out any second. You don’t know how many of them there are, but you see at least two others besides Delmer. It’s two of the poachers from before. They also have a Raticate, Seviper,

He’s not taking you without a fight! You elbow hard into his groin and bite the hand near your mouth. You’re a street fighter. You play dirty. You reach for a Pokeball.

Delmer stifles a scream and recoils, but only for a second. He recovers much quicker than you expected and punches you right in the gut.

You crumple over in pain, but somehow still stay on your feet. ”You little-”

You strike out at him again. He very easily avoids it and backhands you hard.

That’s okay, you tell yourself as your ears ring and you taste blood and now dirt and grass. It was a feint. Your real goal was to toss out a Pokeball. If you just plainly reached for one, he would have easily stopped you.

The Pokeball leaves your hand and explodes in light. Devon appears, snarling and vicious.

Raticate and Seviper move on him before you can even react. You cough, unable to speak for a moment.

Devon quickly pins down Seviper, but Raticate gets him in the back with a Super Fang.

You reach for another Pokeball when Delmer tackles you onto your back. He easily overpowers you as you struggle to formulate words. There’s a flash of a Pokeball from Robin’s direction, but you can’t really see what’s going on.

They toss out a Slaking and Purugly.

Devon puts his teeth to Raticate and pauses. Delmer has his hands around your neck, but isn’t squeezing. There’s a tense stand off.

You inhale precious air.

Delmer is on top of you, so you can’t directly reach another Pokeball. Maybe you could fight him off for another second or two if you had a little time to recover. Or if he’s distracted you might be able to get another.

The others don’t move either. You’re almost positive it’s just the three of them here, but who knows how many Pokemon they have or if there are more at your camp. Whatever was happening with Robin has stopped.

"Let Raticate go," Delmer threatens. "It was hard to train so well."

“Let me go, or Raticate gets it.”

He hesitates, then scoffs as a thought hits him. “Right. You were all about ‘liberating’ capture Pokemon from me before, but now you’re going to kill one?” He presses his weight against you slightly. “Let Raticate go and I promise you and your friends will see another sunrise. Hurt Raticate and your girlfriend wears two patches.”

“Woah. You said nobody gets seriously hurt.”

Delmer has a clear vein on his forehead. His eyes shoot darts at the poacher. “I also told you they left me to die. These aren’t people you mess around with. Don’t let them fool you. You want that legendary or not?”

The others look unsure, but don’t go against him. He takes their complacency as an affirmative and turns back to you. “What’s it going to be?

If Devon takes out Raticate, you figure it’s almost a guarantee he can take Delmer off you before the other Pokemon can stop him. Without Raticate, the other Pokemon are too slow. Of course, if you don’t win, you believe Delmer will go through with his threat.

If Devon takes his fangs from Raticate, you’re not sure if he’ll be able to act before they take him down. You think he can, but if your luck is against you then things could go poorly.

You can tell him to use Roar. It’s a slow move, but if he pulls it off you’ll be in a much better position.

Devon keeps his eyes firmly on you, waiting for a command.

Raticate looks terrified. It’s eyes fall to you. You’re not sure if it understands the situation and is asking for mercy, or that’s just where it happens to be looking.

Delmer pauses “What?”

Raticate flies into Delmer, knocking him right off you. You scramble away as fast as you can and yell out “Flamethrower!”

Raticate gets up off Delmer just in time to take the attack and be blown back into him from Flamethrower’s power. He’s knocked into a tree with a loud thud. Both of them slump down, unconscious.

Purugly and Slaking attack Devon, but he manages to avoid the brunt of it. Despite the heavy beating he’s taken, he's able to hang on. He automatically positions himself between you and the danger.

They prepare to issue an attack. Well, Purugly’s trainer anyway.

You begin tossing out Pokeballs, starting with Nibbles.

The owner of the Slaking is about to throw his Pokeball, but he pauses when Nibbles starts advancing.

They hesitate for another second, then finally one of them speaks. “Alright. We know when it’s time to leave.” He motions to the other. They start walking away.

You want to check on Robin and Clair, but the logical part of your brain tells you that you should make sure Delmer isn’t an immediate threat first. You head over to where he’s laying.

He’s totally out, motionless. You get a little closer

You carefully move him onto his side. He coughs and you quickly back away, but when you realize he’s still out of it you relax.

You confiscate his Pokeballs and look for any weapons. You take out Raticates ball and recall it. You give him one more pat down just to be sure.

Once you’re satisfied, you take out Raistlin and hand Metapod over to him. “String him up, make sure he’s not going anywhere.”

You’re about to run over to Robin and Clair when you pause. You turn around and throw out Levi. “Levi, Nibbles. Guard him, just in case.” You take out Dan too. “Follow me, stay close in case those guys come back.”

You leave them too it and rush over to Robin and Clair. They’re out, but otherwise seem okay. You feel your shoulders relax. You didn’t even notice how tense you were.

You get up and start considering your next move when suddenly there’s a jostling in the bushes. A figure is silhouetted there, watching and hiding.

Delmer stirs awake just long enough to see you kneel down over him. You wait for him to become fully aware of his surroundings.

“Why are you still after me?”

He moves his neck a little. “You’re kidding, right? You ruined my life. You left me dangling on that cliff. I hate y-”

Whatever. You punch him as hard as you can. He’s threatened Robin and everyone else too many times for you to indulge in his crap.

Oh hell that hurt. Less your hand, and more your abdomen muscles. He got you good. You adjust your jaw, feeling for damage from when he backhanded you.

You take out his radio and start playing with it. Aren’t these supposed to have an emergency band setting or something? Or is that just an urban myth? You keep fiddling until you get something.

“Hello? I have a situation.” You explain about Delmer and your friends. The person on the other side is asking questions about immediate danger. Just as she’s asking you about that, you see Erin coming out of the bushes with Raistlin. Judging from the look on her face there’s no immediate problems at camp.

Robin and Clair are stirring awake slowly. That’s also a huge relief.

“Alright, we’re sending someone now. I know you don’t have an address, but are there any markers you can give?”

“We could light a fire at the campsite,” Erin offers.

“They should be there in about an hour,” the woman on the radio tells you. “I can stay on the line with you if you think there’s any danger.”

I've been kinda thinking that maybe we should make Meloetta our pokemon officially now, so that she can't get caught or stolen from us as easily. If we don't, that'll be two times its gotten us into trouble or been a bad outcome of the most recent problem. We should probably talk to her tonight to see if she's ready or not.

“I’m fine,” you tell the woman. “Thanks for the offer though.” You oput the radio away and signal Erin to help you lift Robin. You want to do something to stir her awake, but you remind yourself you don’t know how. If Delmer wanted to harm you guys, you’d be harmed, right? Robin and Clair just need to sleep it off.

You turn your attention to Erin. “How’s the campsite?”

“It’s good. Meloetta is sleeping in your fancy tent thing.” Erin looks incredibly uncomfortable. “Raistlin, umm, filled me in on what happened. Never had a Pokemon in my head before.”

“That you know of,” Clair stirs up for a second. She then rolls over and goes back to sleep.

“Well, helps on the way,” you tell Erin as you both lift Clair onto Nibbles.

She’s hugging her sweater to herself. “You uh, seem really calm.” Her eyes dart around the dark bushes. “Does this sort of thing happen a lot?”

"More often than you might think. This is the fourth time I’ve had to deal with that guy,” you gesture to Delmer. Instead of lifting him, you just signal Levi to carry him with her mouth. She happily complies.

“Oh.” She says.

“Don’t worry, this is the first time he’s actually been caught. The cops are on the way. He’s going to jail.” You really hope that’s the case. How could it not be though, right? You’re safe from him now.

She ducks under a branch. “But uh, that’s it, right? He’s caught, no more danger?”

"How'd you think I got a camera crew to follow us? Not all adventures end in smiles though. Why do you think Robin wears an eyepatch?" You were going to say that more jokingly, but you’re just not there yet. “Robin’s eye had nothing to do with Delmer. That was just...me being careless.”

She looks down. “You know, you could use this.”

You’re almost at the camp now. Just a bit farther up. “What do you mean?”

“Well, the show’s insurance and lawyers are going to go ballistic over a police report involving a bunch of young girls in the woods being knocked out. If we approach this from the right angle, you could shut down the filming. This could be the end of it if you want. The studio would agree to whatever you want if they think you’ll make a public debacle.”

“What about you? Wouldn’t you be out of a job?”

She stops for a second. “There’ll be more shows. I wouldn’t want to follow you guys around if you didn’t want it.”
