You are Anthony Grant, the level 40 Half-Alv Cleric named Ambrosis, the leader of the <1st Panzer Division>, captain of the first land-ships, and the man who gets the privilege to wake up next to a certain blonde beauty.

Said beauty wiggled closer to you on the bed; thus was your first waking sensation this day.

You wrap your arms around her and hold her tight. “You're mine.” You whisper.

“And you're mine.” She responds, pushing herself closer to you.

You turn to lay on your back and drag her up to lay on you. You feel her lips on yours and open your eyes. You are met with a bright light that fades to see her. You lift your head and give her a quick kiss.

“Again.” She demands.

You give her one more kiss.

“Another.”

Another quick kiss.

“One last one.”

You put a hand over her head and push your lips together with a much greater force. You release the kiss with a “Mwah!”

She leans back and sits on your stomach, the covers of the bed roll off her back. “Maybe there's something else you can-”

You hear the door slam against the wall and a certain dwarfette shout, “AMBROSIS! I'VE MADE A DISCOVERY!”

Judi grabs the sheets and wraps herself in them before ducking down in embarrassment. You lean over to see Lilac standing in the doorway. “Uhhh...” This was a surprise you were not expecting, “Can it wait?”

Lilac looks between you and Judi, then states, “This is more important!” She protests, “This change everything we thought we knew about making things in this world!”

“Yeah, but-”

“No! Science before sex!” She implores, “You can hold me down and do terrible things later!” She suddenly puts her hands over her mouth.

“'Me'?” You question her statement.
>>
>>39855221
“HER!” She shrieks, “I MEANT HER! Not me!” She looks absolutely flustered, “I- I haven't slept! I- I just forgot what I was saying! I just- I- The. Wha- Uh.” She stumbles over half-words for a while before retreating out of the room. She turns around to state “Science before sex!” before slamming the room door.

You put your hands on your face. Of all the Freudian slips to say.

“Should I be concerned about that?” Judicature asks in a not-as-nice tone.

“No.” You reply instantly, “Me and her already had a conversation about it. It's not going to happen.”

“How long ago was that?”

“Back in Boulder.”

“How'd that go?”

“There was crying and hugging, but we agreed it'd be a really bad idea.”

“Oh.” Judi lays her head on your chest. “She... gave me advice. About... about you. And things.”

“What kind of things?”

“Relationship things.” She pauses. “And s-... sexy... things.”

“Ah. So should I thank her for that 'My hips are moving on their own'?” You tease.

“Stop bringing that up!” She whines.

You laugh and wrap your arms around her. “But you're so cute when I tease you!”

“Noooo~!” She laments.

You begin to kiss her over and over again.

“No!” She responds to each kiss. “No, no, no, no, no!”

“Yes.” You say when you are done.

She gives you one last kiss. “Okay.”
>>
>>39855231
The two of you lay there together a while before you finally say, “Alright, we should get dressed.”

As the two of you go about reequipping all of your items, Judi asks, “So, you think she's just lonely?”

“Huh?”

“Lilac.” She continues, “Do you think she's looking for someone to 'hold her down and to terrible things'?”

You think back to the conversation back in Boulder. “I do, but... I think it's a bit more complicated than that.”

“What's that supposed to mean?”

“She...” You try to choose your words carefully, “She would feel guilty about being in a relationship.”

“Why?”

You stay silent as you put on the last of your armor. The two of you are now ready to see whatever it was that Lilac discovered, but Judicature's question still lingers.

“It's really personal.” You comment, “You should ask her about it.”

“I think I will.” She responds In a somewhat aggressive manner.

“Okay.” You offer her a shrug. “It's nowhere near as bad as you think it is.”

“How do you know that!?”

“Because you're acting like the two of us are doing something behind your back.”

“But how do I know...!” She stops herself. “I'm sorry.”

You pat her on the head. “It's okay. Paranoia can happen, but just don't let it get to you. We've gotta trust each other, right?”

“Right.” She responds weakly, “I just don't understand why she would tell you something like that and not me.”

“I don't think she wanted to tell me.” You respond, “We were both drunk and it just kinda happened.”

Judi frowns. “You know, you tell me not to be paranoid and then say 'We were both drunk and it just kinda happened.'”

You chuckle, “I was talking about a drunken conversation!”

She pouts. “A likely story.”

You grab her hand and walk out of the door. “Oh, don't be that way. You can ask her yourself.”

Within moments you enter Lilac's room. Bits and bobs are scattered all over the floor and a large cluster of batteries stands in the center of the room.

“Good!” Lilac shouts, “You're here! So, what I discovered was-”

“What did you tell Ambrosis that you didn't tell me!?” Judicature interrupts.

“W-what?” The dwarf looks completely caught off guard.

“What did you tell him!?”

Lilac looks to you with absolute confusion.

You point to your head, but then try to make it look like you were scratching your head to not give any information to Judi.
>>
>>39857359
Judi, however, seems to have seen it. “Her thoughts?” She then looks back to the sorceress. “Your fantasies? Do you have some weird fetish? Some really freaky stuff? Why would you feel guilty about being in a relationship because of that? Unless you have a murder fetish! Oh my god, you're a murderer aren't you!? You're a black widow who can only get off by killing her-”

“I have cancer!” Lilac screams.

The swashbuckler takes a step back.

“I have cancer and I'm going to die soon.” Lilac continues, “So I'd rather be lonely than hurt someone.”

You sigh. “I thought I already told you not to feel-”

“Stop!” Lilac cuts you off. “It's science time! We talk about science now!” She breathes in and out, wiping her eyes before continuing. “Okay.” She claps her hands. “Remember back in Boulder when I said I couldn't build a car?”

You nod. You certainly remember that night.

“Well, back then we figured out that only someone with the Engineer subclass could build one, and if someone else tried to, the parts would simply be repelled by one another, like magnets, right?”

You nod again.

“Well, if that was true, how the hell could I build something like this!?” She motions over to the original electorlyzer.

“Huh.” You comment, “I didn't think about that.”

“Neither did the system!” Lilac takes a tube from the floor and tries to connect it to another one, but they always miss each other, almost as if they are repelled by one another. “But now it does know!”

“That's... so weird.”

“I told you it was important!” She drops the two pipes. “You see, I don't think the system knew what I was doing before. I mean, how could it? I was connecting a punch of pipes together, and then filling them with water, then dunking in some copper rods! It couldn't see it was a machine until the battery was brought in!”

“Then why did it let you hook up the battery?” You ask.
>>
>>39857396
“I was asking myself that for a long time, until I realized something.” She pauses for dramatic effect. “We can eat.”

“I don't follow.”

“Think about it! An Engineer is required to manipulate and build machinery, right? Well, the same could be said of food! We manipulate food every day! We do so by eating it! How is cutting a piece of fruit any different from taking a bite out of it!?”

“What?”

“Think about it! When we needed the pizza cut, who did your brother ask to cut it? Takeshi! The only chef on board!”

“You're beginning to sound like a conspiracy theorist.” Judicature comments.

“Oh yeah? Have you ever tried to cook something?” Lilac responds, “It turns to purple mush! The system prevents you from doing it, just like how it prevents you from making a machine unless you have the correct subclass!”

Lilac does sound insane, but from what you gathered from your brother, she's not far off.

“So that got me thinking, if biting something is no different than cutting it, and you need class levels to cut something, how could anyone eat? Then I realized, whenever you change subclass, what level are you?”

“One?” Judi responds.

Lilac jumps excitedly and points to Judi, “Exactly! We all probably have one level in every subclass, we just don't know it!”

“But what does that have to do with the wire?” You ask.

“I'm getting to that!” She shouts, “So remember, without a battery, what I made was just a very weird water bucket, which takes no real engineering, but with the battery and wire, it becomes something important.” She pauses dramatically once more. “I don't think the system understood what I was doing, and when it did, the thing was already built! It couldn't stop me because connecting a wire wouldn't require more than one level of engineering.”
>>
>>39857422
“And now it's preventing you from building it in the first place.” You think aloud.

“Yes!” She cries, “The system updated! The system learned from me!” She lowers her voice. “It makes me think that the system doesn't quite know what it should make of all the things we are doing, and something or someone decides on it after it is created.”

“So... what does that mean?”

“I have no idea!” She turns to the pile of parts. “Also, I need you to build the new electrolyzer!”

“Hm? Oh. Yeah.” You get to work putting piping together.

“Wait.” Judi points out, “But how do you know that having levels in chef really lets you cook things? Maybe it's just a coincidence.”

Lilac ponders. “I suppose we could ask Vertigo. He's the only one here that knows the secret of food-with-taste.”

“He hinted it was something like that.” You responds, still fiddling with parts. “But we're better off trying to get this done.”

“I suppose.” Lilac says, “But there has to be some other way.”

“Call Takeshi.” You say, “He's a chef, so he should be able to do it on his own, right? Tell him it's his first mission as the real him. He'll probably enjoy that.”

You start connecting tubes and materials together. You're not quite sure what it is you're doing exactly, but Lilac tells you the next step every so often.

“Takeshi!” Lilac suddenly cries out, “I have a mission for the... uh... For the real you!” A pause. “I need you to find a potato, and then cook it, like you would in the real world.” A pause. “Do you doubt Ambrosis' wisdom!?” A longer pause. “Good. Once you are done, report your results.”

“Doubt my wisdom?” You ask while placing copper rods into the cap of the machine.

“It was the only thing I could think of. Besides, he likes that sensei stuff. He probably thinks it's some kind of 'Wax on Wax off' thing.”

“Isn't that kinda mean?” You ask, “I mean, he's trying to get away from that stuff.”

“Well, when we tell him it wasn't a Wax on Wax off thing, he'll learn his lesson.”

“The lesson not to listen to you?”

“Well, if you put it like that...”

You put the last piece in place. “That should do it, right?”

“Only one way to find out.” Lilac pulls a jug from her bag and hefts it in your direction. “Fill'er up!”

You lift the jug and pour its contents into the machine.

Lilac takes the wires and connects them up to the batter cluster. The machine lets out a loud buzz, which you assume that means it's working.

“Now put this on top.” Lilac tasks you. She holds out the black balloon-thing from before. You place it on the nozzle marked H and stand back.
>>
>>39858881
Over time the black mass forms the shape of an orb.

“Now we need to test it's actually hydrogen in there.” Lilac states.

The dwarf unhooks the wires and you clamp the end of the balloon before taking it off the nozzle.

“Have a torch?” You ask Judicature.

She responds with a nod.

You release the balloon-thing and it expels its gas into the room. The blonde pulls out a torch and a loud explosion deafens you.

When your hearing comes back, the first thing you can hear is Lilac clapping and laughing, “It worked, it worked! Ha!”

“So... now what?” Judicature asks.

“Now we need to build the actual ship and then weigh it.” You proclaim.

“Oh.” Judi responds.

Lilac adds, “That means we'll need to design a control scheme for you again.”

“Ah. Right.” The blonde says. “What about something like the ship helm.”

“That's doable.” Lilac nods. “That's pretty much how it worked in real life.” Lilac pauses. “I think.”

“You don't know!?” Judi looks concerned.

“Not exactly, but we can figure it out easily enough. I mean, how hard could it be? We just need a rudder and a backwards propeller to push us forward, and some downwards propeller to control height. Simple!”

“That doesn't sound simple at all.” Judi comments.

Lilac puts on a smug smile. “Well, I guess it's just simple for me because I'm such a good engineer.”

“The best.” You add.

Judi seems confused.

You mouth the words “Just go with it.” to her.

The Swashbuckler nods.

“So!” Lilac interrupts “What are we making this thing out of? We're going to need metal pieces for the actual engines, which it goes without saying that we'll be going with the strongest per weight, so something along the lines of Mithra will be best, but for the actual basket itself...” She pauses. “Wood has less strength to weight ratios than metal, but it's also a much cheaper material.”

>[ ] “Make the basket out of wood. More hydrogen costs almost nothing and reducing the build cost only means more customers for this city when we're done.” The economic option.

This is a test model. We show what it works as at this moment. Explain later models will be metal frames, wood form. Custom full metal are possible. This is to show it WORKS, not be battle ready. These things are primarily for transportation first. We show it works, say we can also make ones with metal frames, just more hydrogen.

This is about showing it works first, and foremost. But we'll make a stronger one a little later. Because we'll probably have backing. Both in coin, and manpower.

“Let's go with a metal frame, but fill it in with wood.” You says, “Strength, but also a decent price.”

“Okay.” Lilac responds, “We should probably get the frame done first.” She pulls out sheets of paper. “But we need to plan this out first.” She looks over some things on the pages. “No, none of these will help. They're planned out for much larger ships.” She pauses, “Also I forgot to account for the weight of the passengers.” She then mumbles, “Again.” She then pulls some potion out of her bag and quaffs it down.

“What's that?” You ask.

“What's what?” She responds.

“That thing you just drank.”

She looks down at the bottle a bit confused, then says, “OH! This helps me stay awake.”

You look over to Judi, who looks concerned. “How long have you been awake?” She asks.

Lilac shrugs. “I don't remember. Doesn't matter. We're on the clock. This isn't anything particularly new to me anyways.”

“Yeah, but...” Judi continues, “Wouldn't you be better with some sleep?”

Lilac stares at the papers for a while. “Huh?” She seems surprised by Judicature's question. “Oh, yeah, probably, but I'll be fine like this.”

You and Judi share unsure looks before you speak. “Anyways, I need to go call the <Morning Star>. They said they would be giving us some materials today and I need to tell them where to put it.”

“Just tell them to put it in here.” Lilac responds, “The cabin-basket-thing shouldn't be bigger than a bed.” The dwarf then looks over to her bed. “Hmmm... A bed...”
>>
>>39861401
You put your palm to your face. “Are you going to use the bed as the basket?”

“No, no.” She grabs her bed and flips it over. “I'm just looking at how it's made.” She begins to draw some things on her paper. “Horizontal ribs? Hmm... Maybe as bars, then planks of wood on top? But how do we secure those? A screw? Hmmm...”

You decide to leave Lilac to it and focus on your job.

You open up your friend list, but before you can touch the call button for Brimstone, a different call pops up.

RING

RING

It's Takeshi.

You hit the answer button. “Hello?” You ask.

“I did it.”

“Did what?”

“I have baked the potato.”

“I see.” You take a moment to consider this. “What does it taste like?”

“It tastes very bland.” He responds.

“Oh.” Is it possible you misunderstood your brother?

“So I cooked some bacon and crumbled it onto the potato. I also added some cheese on top.” He continues. “Now it isn't bland.”

“So it worked!” You say loud enough for everyone else to hear. “You, Takeshi, found out how to make food with taste!”

“W-well, I wouldn't have done it without you.” Takeshi responds, “Thank you for teaching me the secret.” You get the feeling he just bowed in your general direction. Well, at least he isn't calling you sensei. Baby steps, you suppose.

“See?” Lilac says, “I still go it.”

“So...” Takeshi continues, “What should I do now?”

“Go cook some more.” You say, “See what else you can make.”

“Understood.” He hangs up without and further words.

You inhale, and then exhale. “Baby steps.” You reiterate.

You scroll through your friend list one more time and call Brimstone.

“Well if it isn't, Ambrosis.” The old man answers, “What can I do for ya?”

“Hey, I'm calling about the materials from yesterday. I need the delivered to the inn. Specifically to the room of my head engineer.”

“Well, that sounds great. I'll send someone over with the stuff, but you'll need to show him where to put it.”

“That sounds good to me.”

“Alright, Ambrosis, just remember, ya got three days left to finish it.”

“Three!? I thought we had a week!”

“Ha ha. I'm only pullin' your leg. You still got six, but don't tell yourself you've got more time, cause you ain't.”

You let out a sigh of relief. “I know, I know. You won't be disappointed, sir. In fact, you'll probably be kicking yourself for not giving us more to start with.”

“Ha! Well, I gotta say, it'd take quite a bit for me to say something like that, but I've been feelin' that you'll impress us.”

“Thank you.”

“Alright, Ambrosis, I'll get you those materials right now. Remember, the rest is up to you.”

“Me and my team.”

“Finding a water source.” Lilac comments, “And making the bladder, although we won't know how big it will be till we have everything weighed.”

“Hmmm....” Is all you have to respond with.

“I could possibly solo some low level monsters.” Judicature mentions. “We need intestines, right?”

“Right.” Lilac replies, still staring at her papers. “How long do we want this thing to fly for?”

[ ] “An hour. It's only a model, after all.”
[ ] “Four, maybe five hours. It may be a model, but it should still be impressive to them.”

“So, how much do you think it'd take to get this thing going for long?” You ask.

“Depends on how long you need it going for.” She responds. “What did you have in mind?”

“Well, I was thinking we either just get it enough to have it work, maybe four to five hours of power OR we go to really impress them with a whole day's worth of power. Let them fly themselves to someplace and show up in style.”

“Hmm...” Lilac taps her chin. “Well, seeing as it will be near-weightless, relatively speaking, we're dealing mostly with drag. Now, the bigger the battery, the more drag, which means the more output we need, which means the more power we need.” She looks over to the block of batteries she stole from the Manifest Destiny. “I suppose time-wise it wouldn't make that much of a difference, as I was just going to steal batteries from the land-galleon, but it would make a difference in the amount of time it would take Judi to farm all the mats for the bladder.” She scratches her chin again. “Actually that brings up a good point: How fast do we want this thing to go? The faster it goes, the more power it needs per hour, and the bigger the power requirement, the bigger the bladder needs to be.”

TWO PART VOTE
[ ] “Well, we gotta go fast.” High power output.
[ ] “Let's keep it at a descent speed. This isn't meant to be anything but a prototype after all.” Medium output.
[ ] “Leave it nice and slow. They just need to see that it works.” Low power output.

As much as it would be great for them to dispatch someone somewhere using an airship right away, we still need to use the prototype to figure out weaknesses in the design and anything else we need to straighten out. A full day's worth of flight is a lot of time spent waiting for flaws to appear and getting away from a safe place.

“Keep it at a descent speed. Also, let's go with four to five hours. I'm sure just an airship alone would be enough to impress the <Morning Star>.”

“Okay.” Lilac begins to ponder. “With that kind of power per hour, if I build these propellers right, then we should be looking only half a battery cluster from the Manifest Destiny. This would need...” She grabs the balloon-thing still in your hand and meanders over to the jug of water. The sorceress dunks the thing into the water and moves it about. Then she pours the water into an empty potion bottle. Lilac places the now filled bottle into her bag. “I don't even know how much the bottle weighs.” She laments to herself. She pours the contents out and places the glass in once more. “Okay. Now that I know that...” She goes back over to her papers and starts writing down some more. “I'm not even taking elasticity into account...” She shrugs, “Whatever. We're looking at a good twenty stacks worth of intestines.” The dwarf looks back to her papers. “I wonder if any of the vendors that usually buys that stuff would be willing to sell it to us.”

“Do you think you could do that on your own, Judi?” You ask.

“I could, but it'd probably go faster if I had a healer.”

You ponder for a moment.

Last Choice of the night.
[ ] “Alright, let's go together and get this completed as quickly as possible.” Go with Judicature to farm vendor trash and possibly find a water source.
[ ] “True, but without me Lilac won't be able to actually assemble the ship.” Stay to help complete the airship basket.
[ ] “If we get everyone together, we could probably breeze through this even faster.” Get everyone you can to start farming monsters.

“If we get everyone together, we could probably breeze through this even faster.” You point out.

“I'm going to stay here.” Lilac informs you, “Not that getting the materials isn't important, but I think it would be better if I stay behind.”

“Alright.” You say. You turn your attention to the blonde and hold onto her hand. “Ready to go?”

Judicature gives you a nod and the two of you are off.

You scroll through your friend list and start contacting everyone you can, telling them to get ready for some good old fashioned farming.

“Yar! I'll be there in a moment!” Responded Trove.

“Okay.” Responded Takeshi, “Just give me a moment to finish this dish.”

“Yes, brilliant!” Replied Edifice, “With the airships, we might have a chance against the Japanese Invasion Force! Count me in!”

Tarot was a bit disheartened, commenting “I'm only going to keep Edifice out of trouble.”

Carnegie on the other hand, was far more enthused. “It would be good to get back into the swing of things.”

Your brother happily responded, “It's a hell of a lot better than sitting around the land-ship!”

“Hello?” Answers the woman with the fake name.

“Hey, me and everyone else are farming monsters to get materials to build an airship. You in?”

“Hmm...”

“It would mean a lot to Lilac if we got this done.” You are partially lying as Lilac never said anything like that, but it would probably still mean something to her regardless.

“Alright.” The elf says, “What exactly are we farming?”

“Anything. We need intestines. All the animals in the game drop them as vendor trash.”

“How much does she need?”

“Twenty stacks, I think?”

“Consider it done.” CLICK.

You shake your head. No way in hell you're going to be upstaged by someone with a fake name.

I think I have finally managed to figure out when these things actually run, so with a bit of luck I should be able to join in on the next one.
