>At least let me pay half.
>If you ever need someone to talk to Anna, you can give me a call.

“At least let me pay half,” you protest pulling out your wallet.

Anna frowns at you, “That’d completely defeat the point.”

“Yeah, but I don’t want you to feel like you have to treat me to something every time I hang out,” you say while doing some mental math on what the price probably is.

“I won’t,” Anna protests, “Just consider it a one time thing and let me do this.”

You shrug after a moment, “Well I’ll grab the tip at least then.”

“That’s fine,” she sighs, before setting a twenty and ten on the table, “Really though, you should let people do nice things for you once in a while.”

“I do,” you shrug as you pull out a five, tipping on the lower side of things for all the staring done, “It’s just,” you make a vague gesture.

Anna hums as the two of you get up and start the walk back home, at a much more leisure pace. Your legs protest from your earlier workout, occasionally you’ll take an awkwardly long step to kind of stretch.

“Hey, you know, if you ever need someone to talk to Anna, you can give me a call,” you say as you turn back onto her street, “Or hell even just hanging out, I’d be down with either.”

“Ah, yeah?” Anna asks, stirred from her thoughts, “I might have to take you up on that… the hanging out I mean.”

“Sure, I tend to keep pretty active; I know I wear out Kat and Beth pretty regularly from how much I do,” you smirk at that, “Though I guess if you’re going to take me on a run every time you’ll wear me out instead.”

Anna laughs a bit, “Yeah probably, I’ll let you decide how often we do that then…” she glances toward her house, as the two of you stop in front of it, “I guess I’ll see you later then?”

“Yeah, it was fun Anna,” you wave, turning around to talk and walk, “Keep in touch, yeah?”

“I will definitely,” she smiles, returning your wave and heads inside.

You sigh a bit as you realize you’ve a thirty minute walk home ahead of you, kind of missing Beth’s car. With an amused smile you figure that’s mostly due to being a little sore from the run, that’s whatever though you’ll eventually get a car.

”Shame we didn’t ask for advice, if only to see her reaction,” Shadow Alex muses.

‘It’s probably for the best, that’s an entirely different level of things,’ you think back enjoying the cool breeze on your bare legs.

”Still could have teased her with the overly personal questions,” she shrugs, and yawns.

‘Another day for sure, she’s been having a rough time anyways,’ you yawn, and curse the infectious nature of them.

”Yeah, yeah,” Shadow Alex blows you off, clearly not too concerned.

You hum and just focus on making it home, neither of you having much to say. It’s an enjoyable walk for the most part, a couple strong breezes makes you have to pull the hem of your dress downwards…

As you unlock the door and step inside you smell pizza, your dad walking to the living room with a plate. Kat following behind, both of them stop mid bite and glance your way.

“Want some..?” your father asks gesturing back to the kitchen.

“Well, good to see you didn’t starve while I was gone,” you chuckle, the smell of food making you shake your head, already full.

“It was a close one,” your father says gravely, getting a distant look, “Kat nearly wasted away, she was but twigs until taking that first bite…” he trails off, “If I hadn’t ordered then, who knows what would have happened to her.”

“W-what?” Kat asks surprised as she looks back at your Dad, “No! I didn’t even know you ordered things until I smelt it!”

“So far gone she couldn’t even remember it,” he says solemnly, “It was more dire than I thought.”

You shake your head in amusement as you lock the door behind you, “Don’t worry about it Kat, I’m sure he’s just projecting.”

Kat frowns and takes another bite, eating while it's still warm, “So how’d things go?”

“Ah pretty good, actually,” you say shrugging, as your Dad makes and indigent sound.

“You could have let me enjoy the joke a bit longer,” he mumbles as he makes for the couch and tv trays out.

Kat glances toward him and follows after, sitting at the other end of the couch, “So that was all the favors then..?” she tilts her head your way as you sit between them.

“Ah well, I didn’t owe her a favor,” you shrug making conversation as she eats, “But yeah, that would have wrapped things up.”

Kat smiles while eating, “So what are you going to do with your days now?”

“The usual, wreck things and relax,” you say barely paying any attention to the TV, you roll the question around a bit more.

“So nothing different?” Kat asks curious.

You shrug, “Maybe hitting a few more demons to start stockpiling some cores, schools coming up sooner or later.”

She frowns while chewing, “So we’ll be out more..?”

You chuckle a bit, “Are you asking to plan how much time you can throw at games?”

Kat shakes her head, “I just was curious.”

“Eh,” you shrug, not committing an answer to that, as you watch her finish her last slice.

Just a warning, the sticky thing >>39859201 mentioned works great for many cats, but be sure to test your cat's reaction to the stuff first. My mom has a cat that eats any tape it can fit in its mouth. It's funny, but not really the best thing for his digestive track.

A little water pistol is nice for getting them to stop doing something, but of course you've gotta be careful because, well, wiring. And it leaves water to cleanup, depending on how much you use and how good your aim is.

You shrug, “Probably should find you a close by storm drain so you can play without worry…”

She nods, “We keep forgetting to…”

You move away from the house, uttering the familiar line that beckons your transformation, “Shield of glass, spear of light; Break now, mirror, aid my fight!” the words rolling off your lips with an ever increasing ease.

Without delay this time, your clothes break away from you; becoming fragmented mirrors that reflect the world a shade darker than it actually is. They stop just past arm’s reach from you, before rocketing inwards forming your cargo pants, boots and thong first.

Your blouse comes next, leaving your lower stomach and shoulders bare as the remnants form the book of mirrors in your right hand, you hum at how used you have gotten to having clothes explode off of you.

”What’re you going to work on today?” Shadow Alex asks, brought to wakefulness once more.

‘Spike hell’s rough to do reliably,’ you think as you reach for the magic needed, it jumps at the chance to do so; more than eager to bend to your whims. As a result you’ve pulled darkness as well, too much for your task as it lazily floats around you.

With little more than a grumble, you get to work on messing with Spike hell. It’s a bit odd to you, as it seems the shadows have a mind of their own almost; something that’s vastly different than your mirrors. It doesn’t take long for you to realize you’ve been forcing them rather than enticing them, a simple fix that leads to spikes with spikes on them.

You get the feeling it’ll be easier to cast next time too. It’s not hard to feel Shadow Alex’s interest as she watches you practice ready to help should you need it. Though as you’re wrapping up it becomes apparent you had things covered.

As you're about to detransform you hesitate…

You stop yourself, as your curiosity grows, ‘Hey Alex, you still get where the funky feeling is?’

”Ah? Yeah, whats up?” she responds a bit slow as you catch her attention again.

‘Hm, well I was curious what’d happen if we messed with it again,’ you wonder as you reach around inside yourself.

It’s not hard to find it, the spot sticks out like a sore thumb when you’re looking for it. It’s slumbering, silently waiting for you to poke it. You almost get the impression of an angry beehive mixed with an engine that hasn’t been given gas.

When you last fucked with it, it sort of just happened and then it made noises for a while. With all of the awkwardness of trying to flex a muscle you haven’t ever used before, you try and use it to cast magic. An awkward pressure builds up, and you feel a little more tired… but you aren’t sure how to force the release? and it dies out leaving you mostly where you started.

”Yo’ that felt weird,” Shadow Alex sums up the experience.

You can’t help but agree as you feel strangely drained, though you’re probably good to try again... then again you’re Dad’s inside on the couch and he knows magic shit.

>Dad knows his shit, ask him to teach some.

You frown before deciding against giving it another go without help, and make for the living room. Kat and your father are both still watching TV, the former of which looks up as you walk inside.

“Yo Dad, you know your shit with magic… come teach me something real quick yeah?” you lean over the back of the couch.

“Teaching magic isn’t a real quick thing, if it was we’d have masters everywhere,” he protests while sinking into the couch as if it’ll protect him from your demands.

“Come on, at least something to get me started?” you say trying to provoke him into action.

He groans before standing up, “Alright, lets do this.”

Kat’s ears pick up as she gets up as well, a curious look on her face.

“Awesome,” you say with a victorious smile on your face, as you return to the backyard.

Your Dad sits in the chair you usually make phone calls from as Kat closes the back door behind them, “So, something to get you started... “ he mumbles.

“Since I’ve apparently got this thing, and not a clue how to use it,” you shrug as a giddy feeling starts to well up in your stomach.

“So I’ve never really taught anyone magic,” he admits, mulling over something, “What do you want to try and learn first?”

“What is there to learn? I’ve not really any idea,” you admit glancing at Kat who shrugs at you, just as in the dark as you.

“There’s those pockets that I’ve hidden around the house… they probably aren’t too hard, or I guess an alert that tells you when someone enters that room? Ah, there’s also a small fire spell that will burn the contents of the container should someone that shouldn’t see them opens it,” you father rambles off some ideas, with each passing one creating an interesting trend.

So the wish would cover drastic changes that don't happen until after the wish is made? What would be the drawback compared to the manual approach, then?
>>
>>39873162
I kinda have to wonder about this because I recall you saying you didn't want changes to be trivializes through wishes or out right removed yet this "Aura of Normalicy" is pretty much doing that, at least on the physical side of things.
>>
>>39873201
We have to make a wish? That means we have to work more for it.
>>
>>39873333
We don't know how much work it would take to learn the spells required.
>>
>>39873256
My understanding was that the aura just makes people not take notice of the changes, or that it makes the changes not noteworthy to people. So Alex could go out in public without people pointing and being treated like a freak or whatever, but she would still have to deal with the personal complications of actually having changed. For example, eyes all over her body, or becoming a small child. And I imagine a swim class would definitely be difficult if Alex were to ever become a slime girl like Jessica.
>>
Wow, it's been a while right?
>>
>>39873435
Half the issue with having physical was having to deal with the 'public eye' as it were. And in one fell swoop it gets dealt with and ultimately trivialized the whole issue through a single wish. Yes, personal issues still there but... I don't know the whole thing feels cheap.

>Dad I don't need to hide a porn stash.
>Could I try to make myself invisible?

“Dad I don’t need to hide a porn stash,” you say referencing what you found out in the shed.

“You say that now…” your father mutters before sighing, “What do you want to learn then?”

“I don’t know..” you run a hand through your hair, “Maybe turning invisible?”

“That’s hardly teaching you starting out shit,” he points out, “but yeah its possible… I’m not terribly good at it though.”

“Can you teach me it though?” you ask, curious, “I mean I can teach people things I’m terrible at.”

“Well it has a lot to do with seeing the room you’re in with you not there,” he explains, leaning back in his chair glancing at Kat who’s silently taking this all in.

“And then what? When I tried something a moment ago nothing happened just kind of fizzled out and left me tired,” you make a vague gesture, before resting your hand on your hip.

“Ah, you just pull it out,” he says matter of factly, “It’s more a taking things out instead of pulling things to you.”

“Is that why I felt tired after it then?” you ask as realization starts to dawn on you.

“Yeah, you’ll get used to it and build up endurance later,” your father waves it off, “The first couple of times always wear people out.”

Ah hm, you have a point but I think its due to the way in which it does so versus actively allowing people to change the set of changes they have?

I honestly hadn't considered that up until now, and its a completely valid point, though I think unless you are wishing away individual changes any such wish will end up trivializing them due to the 'no bullshit clause'

Do what you feel is right for the quest is all I can say. I pointed this out because the whole AoN thing was kinda bugging me for a while now about how easy it was and the fact you were going to do the whole 'no bullshit clause' for wishes.

Maybe something like the aura needs maintenance? So you'd need more cores to keep it up.
Or things like it can't survive close examination.
Or go the other way, and it makes the user forgettable or something.

I think I mentioned something about this a few months ago, but maybe the aura of normalcy has a variable cost based on the extent of changes: the aura is more costly for Jessica (the goo girl, right?) than it would be for Kat because Jessica's changes are much more difficult to explain away.

Though, dunno how that would work with temporary effects (such as streaking) or new changes.
>>
>>39874864
So do you then have to get add-ons to the aura to cover new changes?
>>
>>39875219
With that idea, yeah, you'd need to upgrade the aura if your body changes significantly (like adding a new body part or something) in order to cover that change. If it's something relatively minor, like, eye color change, it probably wouldn't really need it.

And, again, dunno how it would cover things like exhibitionism or streaking in the middle of a crowd like Hap suggested: on the one hand, I feel that the aura covering that is kind of cheating, but on the other hand, there IS a certain appeal to wandering around buck naked without anyone but those in the know being aware...
>>
>>39875392
If wishes are no bullshit covering inent and you intend to use it for shit like that it should probably show in the cost. If you didn't intend to cover that with the wish and didn't pay the extra cost then when you try it you shouldn't be surprised if it fails
>>
>>39875392
>I feel that the aura covering that is kind of cheating

Feel the same away about that and half the fun of exhibitionism/streaking is being seen or the threat of being seen if you're trying to be sneaky about it (walking in the middle of night).

>So can I just bullshit most of this magic..?
>Result 78+3 mod

“So can I just bullshit most of this magic..?” you wonder as you consider his explanation.

“Sort of,” your father admits, “There’s ways to do things that make them easier to do, if you try something too big you’ll knock yourself out.”

“Then what about all that specialization shit you were talking about before?” you frown at him, and cross your arms over your chest.

“Big shit’s different; if you go talk to people who actually teach this shit they’ll spout bullshit reasons on why they think it works,” he smirks, and shrugs, “Anyways you are drawing this out to be not real quick.”

“Do they not know why it is that way?” Kat asks, breaking her silence.

“Maybe, it all sounded like a self serving reason to me so I didn’t pay it much mind,” your father answers her.

“You’d think you would pay attention to magic class at least,” you mutter as you give it another shot.

You get the mental image pretty easily, limiting the idea of the room to the backyard only. Finding the core again isn’t too terribly hard, it’s still got that awkward feeling to it you almost just give up and pull magic from the world.

Something clicks and you realize you were trying to pull instead of push, with a sudden rush of exhaustion you look down and find you can see right through yourself. Your skin and limbs feel all sorts of tingly, as if you pulled on of those shock things but everywhere.

”That feels all sorts of different,” Shadow Alex comments, a shiver evident in her voice.

‘No kidding,’ you think, feeling yourself grow increasingly more tired before letting the feeling go.

Just as sudden as you vanished you can see yourself again, though you feel like you just repeated the run with Anna all over again.

“There, I taught you magic,” your Dad says proudly, with a smug smile on his face. He stands up and stretches, rolling his shoulders, “Nothing’s impossible with a bit of hard work.”

Kat’s silent as she watches with a growing blush on her face.

How... young is this cat?

Also you're going to find poop everywhere if it's a really young one.
>>
>So thats it, I do magic, I get tired?
>What now then?
>Why're you blushing?

You can’t help but ask, “Why’re you blushing Kat?”

You frown as you get a pit in your stomach, making you wonder if you accidentally removed your clothes somehow… a quick glance down puts that idea to rest. Still in your magical girl uniform, still holding your book of mirrors.

Kat shakes her head, glancing towards your father, “N-nothing, just... thinking of what you’ll do with that,” she mumbles the second half, barely loud enough for you to hear.

You think about it for a moment, before shrugging, not able to think of anything wouldn’t just do anyways.

“Now that you have completed your training montage,” your father says in an exaggerated sagely voice, “I’m going back to pizza and TV, have fun with your new toys!”

He stands up and starts making for the door, “So that’s it then? I do magic, I get tired?”

“Yeah, pretty much,” your father shrugs, “If you use the core to cast magic you’ll hit harder but you tire out. Magical girls use stuff floating around, hit a bit weaker, but can go effectively forever.”

“Huh, thats the only difference then?” you wonder aloud.

“More or less,” he does a so/so gesture, “They’re also more prone to fucking everything that moves,” he grins, and strokes his chin, “We haven’t figured out if that's because they’re usually teenagers or because of something to do with the magic.”

“Shadows probably help,” you point out, thinking of your own and what you’ve heard of others.

>>
>>39877537

”I’d claim more than probably,” Shadow Alex chuckles.

Your father shrugs again, as he slides open the back door you ask, “So what now then? Just practice invisibility..?”

“You could,” your father nods, “I’d suggest trying to expand the shit you can do or getting more endurance. Don’t sweat trying new things, worst you’ll do is pass out…” he starts to make for the couch again, “Anything else before I get back to my day off?”

I'm going to have to call it here, I am like on cloud nine as far as writing goes when I need to be closer to cloud three.

As for the aura of normalcy I'll give it some thought on how to balance it appropriately without removing the no bullshit clause and the intended effect.

The questions regarding the 1d100 for magic roll above: It's a placeholder until I figure exactly what I want to do with it. I've got a good idea but I want to give it some more thought.

Hm, well since it won't really ever be found or super important.

Basically, the magical girl contract as I've thought of it works by cycling energy between you and your shadow. You send the base energy, your shadow sends you the powered up shit in the form of shadow tokens and acting as a refinery for ambient energy. (the shit you grab when casting)

When you eat a core, you get the benefits then your shadow through you, but you fed your shadow a core making things have to flow in completely different ways. While this would have eventually fixed itself, the frequency of cores and then the fallen god core ended up causing things to flow in a weird circle like way.

This was funky feeling yeah? Then when you all tried to transform without transformation line and threw power and the funky feeling it solidified into a core.

In comparison to magical girls as a whole accomplishing this is rare, but so is summoning shadows due to most getting in never making it past mid tier and then getting out. In comparison to high end magical girls its not all that surprising as they kind of just fuck around.

Overall is any of this bad? Nah all of it can be undone with a wish or ignored supposing you all don't like it.
