I'd feel remiss if I didn't mention it, but if ya do go totally blind after the surgery there may yet be hope.

I've come across something called the "Bates Method" and it purports to be able to improve eyesight without the need for glasses and surgery. It may be as some suggest crackpot theory but I believe anything that doesn't involve tons of cash and/or the sacrifice of humans (or worse, virgins) to be worth a try. I mean hey, let em' call ya crazy, so long as you aren't doing either of the two things I just mentioned you're not really hurting anyone so it can't hurt to try. Worst case, nothing changes. Best case, ya get to see at least a little bit again. Win-win far as I can tell.

We leave the tent in between a rain of objects, one of our shoes flying past our head while the other hits us square on it and then bounces upwards.

Maybe it was too much? but they're just so fun to tease... anyway, we go to wash up and ready for the day after recovering our shoes.

By the time we are back, Aritsu is back to her regular, proper and cool mannerisms, while Lyann is doing a rather good job of ignoring us, though we can guess it won't last very long.

Zoe and Stella say that they can't talk to us until lunch because Lyann said so, so we are thoroughly "ignored". Stella approaches and gives us her favorite chew toy to cheer us up.

You know, this seems to be focused on the eyes, and like I said, my problem are the optic nerves that connect the eyes to the brain. The eyes are "fine".

I did find that an italian lab is working on eyedrops to stimulate nerve cell regeneration, based on alzheimer medicine, since that's meant to help the brain tissue regenerate (nerve cells) and their clinical trials have shown a "noticeable improvement" on test patients vision.

I feel like this is one of those Frodo plans, somehow...

"So, if this medicine helps regenerate nerve cells, and glaucome kills nerve cells, why not apply it on the eyes?"

Anyway, it should be 3-4 years before it comes out into the market.

A note from one of the doctors in charge seems so Frodo to me... "We noticed that it works better when we apply higher dosis of it"

The orcs say that the capital is on high altitude, but an active volcano keeps it warm regardless. They appear to worship the lord of fire, and this deity keeps the volcano from exploding and more into "gentle simmering" mode for them.
Resisting our need to facepalm is hard, but not as hard as it would have been in our previous life. Deities are real here, so who can say that they're wrong?

As for monsters, there are roaming salamanders and small fire drakes in the area from now on, albeit it is unlikely that we will come under attack, since we are such a large convoy, but we may at least get to see some of them anyway.

On the other side, there's very few things that could actually hurt her.Even seeing her jump off a cliff after her chew toy doesn't really worries us.

Zoe is looking over here from the cliff's edge, and she looks quite calm, so she's probably alright.

After a bit, Nina comes back and lands before us, then sort of "hops" from foot to foot towards us in that way birds tend to "walk", until she's pressing her face on our clothes.

"Yes master!" -she see,s very excited as she starts flapping her wings to take off.

She has to struggle a lot at first, I see. Well, we're not really sure of the aerodynamics involved, but even us know that taking off with such a "large" body (even if all the harpies are quite petite, at 1.4 meters at the tallest) must be a lot of work.

It seems they do more gliding than proper flying, too.

Incidentally, when we asked Okaba about it, he said his race flew as much thanks to magic as thanks to their wings, so I guess he and Aura are the hybrid type while the harpies are pure diesel?

Right, Atroma in humanoid shape also has wings, but she's never used them, right? she always flies in dragon shape. Guess we could ask her about this if we really cared.

Well, since Nina took off safely, we summon our own mount and get ready for take off after her. It'sbeen a while since we rode this guy for the last time, and he seems to have missed us.

Oh, and just so you know, Aritsu has enough knight levels to summon her own mount, but hasn't done so yet.

I wonder if we should give some knight levels to Lyann?

Anyway, following Nina we realized two things.

1- We must buy her panties soon
2- She really is flying on muscle power alone rather than a mix of magic and wing power.

Its obvious when you pay attention from up close.

After just a few minutes, we spot a group of salamanders down below.

These guy's civilization score would be... stone age. They seem to have some weapons, but these are just sharp rocks, and they are naked.

Well, it also looks like they're on fire. Guess that would work against you wearing clothes, right? it would also work against you owning things since they would just burn away as soon as you pick them up or try to use them, so we probably can't blame them for it.

A group of 15 of them. They spot us and start throwing sharpened stone "discs" at us.

As we approach to talk to them, they immediately flee in every direction while our dragon lands.

Yeah... we're rather scary, considering we are riding a dragon, I guess.

Well, unsummoning it and heading over towards the closest group of (3) them, we try to talk to them, but they stand straight and immediately start throwing sharp stones, on fire, at us.

Well, their levels aren't bad, but they're not strong enough to hit us, anyway.

"Master, what are you doing?" -Nina "sings" the words as she approaches from the air.

Its not that she's really singing, but her voice is quite musical. Would it be too clichéd to say "its because she's a bird"?

"Stay up, don't want them to hit you!"

The salamanders look like tall, burning naga from old RPGs. Would make a flaming joke, but they really don't seem like the joking type.

One of them, a large male wielding a sword made of stone, charges (slithers?) towards us and starts trying to hit us, ignoring ouir attempts to talk to him.

Well, they seem able to talk to eachother, but they don't appear to have the "Spirit of Words" ability that allows non-monsters to talk to each other without sharing a common language.

Incidentally, this divine blessing is what is usually employed as the standard to differentiate monsters from odd looking foreigners. If your race can't understand the othes races, you're probably a monster.

And in case you have to ask, both Dawn and Aura actually learnt a large number of languages so they could go around without getting attacked.
