The year is 2089, and on the surface, this world seems just the same as ours. If you look more closely though, you will find psychics, mages, mythological monsters and more, all hidden from the general populace.
You are an agent of the Order of the Magus Hunters, the organisation keeping this secret from the rest of the world. They are troubleshooters, police, military and assassins all in one, and all so that the world can be safe.

The options are a guideline, not an absolute, which is why I will always include a Write in option. I may occasionally forget to add it but feel free to do so anyway. Some options I list are good, some are bad, most won’t be really awesome. I leave it up to you to find ways to do that.
Also feel free to ask things if they’re not entirely clear. I reserve the right to dodge the issue if it’s done for plot reasons, but otherwise I’ll gladly provide more information.
>>
>Last time on Magus Hunter Quest: You continued working on the magical circle and did most of what could be done from in your home. During it, you took a quick nap, in which you had a disturbing vision. Talking to Milly about it prompted her to contact her clones and the Oculus Primus, with whom you had a conversation through Milly of what she is exactly.

When your father gets up to leave the dinner table, you address him. “Excuse me, Grand Scholar Weston, could I have a word with you in my office?”

He looks surprised, but soon falls back to his default serious face as he answers. “Very well.”

You lead him to your office, where you gesture for him to sit down as you sit back into your own chair. “Now, what is it that you wanted to discuss?”

Straight to business, as always. “I have a message for you. From the Oculus Primus.” You pause a second to gauge his reaction. If there was any, he kept it very well hidden. “He sends you his regards, and asks you, and I quote, ‘keep your nose out of other people’s business.”

For a moment, there’s silence. Then, he starts laughing. And not just a calm smirk, he’s laughing like you’d never dream of ever seeing one of your parents laugh. You’d imagine Blake laughing like that after he told a particularly funny joke maybe, but not your father.

He recovers after a solid minute of laughing. “Oh Vic…” He wipes away a tear. “Same old Vic.” He’s grinning.

Very well, writing.
>>
>>39789511
Yes, but he kind of gave us the hint... You know, his argument with Milly at the table
>>
>>39789524
true, but it just confirmed our suspicions. I think we would have asked Milly the same thing we did even if he never mentioned the project himself. I don't think Raph and others got the same offer.
>>
I feel pretty bad for Milly. I wonder if she can block out/refuse to connect with the hivemind.

Or alternatively if being nice to her could win hivemind's loyalty for us.

And how complete control of oculus is over her, whether she can keep secret from this "Vic"
>>
>>39789567
It confirmed our suspicions that something was up, but did we really have any right to suspect that there were sisters other than having read too much science-fiction? I believe his comment was the only hint in that direction (but correct me if I'm wrong, bad memory)
>>
>>39789704
Does that mean our team members will now start being disappeared? They heard the same thing.
Give the dad a break.
>>
You’re hesitant to ask, but you do so anyway. “What was that about?” He can probably hear the hesitation in your voice, but oh well. The die is cast.

“That, was Victor sending me a clever message. The only way you could have been in personal contact with him was through project Argus, which means that he wants me to know that you know.” The way he talks he almost sounds like an actual human being with feelings for a moment.

“You know the Oculus Primus personally?” You ask.

“Oh yes, we grew up together.” He seems lost in memories, and seems to forget his usual cold demeanour. “We always had a rivalry when it came to…”

He falls silent for a moment, his eyes refocus and he seems to realise again that he’s talking to you. “Ahem. Your mother. Never mind all that.”

Seems like he’s back to his old, cold self, though there’s still a bit of a smile left. “That reminds me. I will be leaving in a few days.” With that, he gets up and leaves your office.

That was an odd experience.

Oh well, back to your duties. You head back to the dining room where the rest is still gathered, casually talking. “Alright people, let’s hit the gym!”

You spend the afternoon again training your mental focus. You manage to push yourself further than you have before, and before long you have a whole bunch of objects orbit around your outstretched arms. You continue adding a little more and more, until you really can’t go any further.

Liam pops in halfway to ask you to shoot multiple objects at him at the same time while he closes his eyes. He grabs a training baton, and he manages to swat almost all of your projectiles to the ground before they reach him.
>>
Happy with what you’ve done, you check up on the others. Katherine managed to get Blake on the ground in their spars, but Blake hasn’t been fooling around either. She’s not on his level just yet.

Nathan is coaching Raphael at the shooting range again, and Nathan’s targets all have neat bullet holes in the centre body mass or the head. Raphael however, still shows no sign of improving, and he’s clearly frustrated with it.

“Why am I doing this anyway? I’ll always have my magic to fall back to in a fight.”

“Not that simple and you know it.” Nathan replies in a de-facto voice. “Your magic isn’t meant to take down enemies, and basic shooting with a handgun will always be a useful thing to have in our line of work.”

Raphael admits his defeat, and you lead everyone to the dining room.

>3. Call Lilliana about the southern circle.
>5. Train together (Telepathy).
>>
So, calling Lilliana it is. The rest gets some time off. while having to consider what rooms they'd like to add.
>>
Dinner is a bit odd. Indian. Lots of curries etc. You ask Wooster what’s up with that, and he informs you that with ‘Lady Hackland’s’ help, he’s been provided with a computer terminal where he can look things up. He found this the perfect opportunity to widen his cooking skills.

After a satisfying meal, you tell the rest that they have the evening off, but to maybe consider what more they’d like to see added to the house.

You yourself go to your office and give Lilliana a call. She doesn’t pick up. You try again but your call is turned down, and a few seconds later you get a message back.

“Bad moment, will call you in an hour.”

With not much more to do until then, you head to the living room where the team, including Milly for once, are talking about rooms.

“We could use a formal briefing room.” Milly is telling everyone. “The current arrangement in the living room works, but I have several ideas which will make things easier for both myself and Mr Wooster.”

Katherine is taking notes it seems. They haven’t really had much change to talk yet, so you just let them, occasionally popping in with some commentary.

Liam argues that a security room would be good to have to hook up to the security already in place and it’ll be needed once you have added an actual perimeter defence.

Raphael would like a meditation/study room, dedicated to magical and psychic training and research. You figure that you don’t need an extra room to train your psionics, but it’d help his magic, you suppose.
>>
When Nathan starts talking, Lilliana calls you back. You open your com and head to your office.

“Weston, we’re working on a plan for the day after tomorrow, at noon. Try and get whatever you can out of your contacts on those two locations and tell them to stay away from them when we move in. You’ll probably get to choose which of the two you want to hit yourself.”

“Good. That’s not why I called though. I’ve been looking into the magical circle a bit more, and we found out that the previous one in the chain should be at HQ. Or at least very close to it. Do you have any idea where that could be?”

The line is silent for a moment. “You’re sure of this?” She asks.

“Yes ma’am.”

“I’ll try to look into it, but it’s not a priority right now. I’m busy enough here as it is.”

>Anything else you want to ask/tell her?
>>
>>39790634
Tell her to not draw attention to herself about the circle, and that we can task about it after the bust.
>>
>>39790634
>I and the team will be ready

We should be careful who we ask to withdraw before the raid, and when. Wouldn't want to give our enemies a warning. The inspector himself looked trustworthy, but when he issues orders to move his people out...

“Roger that, I'll try to gather as much info as I can and inform them to keep away. The team and I will be ready ma’am.”

“That’s what I wanted to hear. The main strategy meeting is planned tomorrow evening. Make sure you get me that info before then along with your preferred target, and I’ll call you in the morning of the day itself to explain the plan. You’ll most likely be having backup on this one. Until tomorrow Weston.” And with that, she lays in the call

When you get back to the living room, most people aren’t there anymore. Only Katherine and Raphael, respectively reading a sappy romance novel and one of the ancient magical tomes. He’s too deep into it to notice you, but Katherine looks up when you enter.

“Ah, sir. Our list.” She hands you the list. Most of it is what you heard earlier, but there’s a few new ones.

>Briefing room
>Security room
>Scribbled between the above and below entries after they had already been written Added security measures like sentry guns
>Meditation/study room
>Obstacle course (outside)
>Ballroom (Blake suggested this, I think it was a joke sir, but you never know with him)

Well, it’s a decent list. Mentally you add a medical room. You might have a walking magical hospital, but what if he gets hurt?

You spend some time mulling it over in your head, alongside what the Arbitrator just told you. It seems security might be becoming a much higher priority than before. You don’t want to be caught unaware.

Eventually you head to bed after going through your regular routine.

-

You feel…The absence of IT. IT is still there, but, not entirely. Differently. Like it abandoned part of ITself temporarily somehow.

In here, you seem to know much more than down there. You’re so limited by your vessel. But it is showing signs of improving. Your brethren are already beyond yourself, so you must push yourself harder to face the oncoming storm.

IT is still out there somewhere.

-
>>
You wake up at 6:45 on the dot. The first thing you notice is an odd sensation. You feel as if someone’s watching you. You quickly look around, but you don’t see anyone other than Wooster, and you’re very sure it wasn’t him you felt.

The room’s empty, and outside you have a clear view of the driveway and the forest beyond it. There’s no one there. It must have all been in your head.

Still… There IS something new. You feel… More powerful?

“Sir, something happened last night. It felt as if you had… A growth spurt. I cannot really think of other terms to describe it.” Wooster tells you.

“Yeah. I… Well, I felt it too, but don’t know what happened either.”

Wondering what happened, and trying to make sense of the dream you had, you go downstairs. Everyone is surprised to see you up so early, but no one makes a remark about it.

After breakfast you tell the rest of the team to start working on the Security room, and you go to your office to make a call.

“DCI Nettles here.”

“Good morning DCI Nettles, it’s Michael Weston here.”

“Ah, I had been expecting another call. I had been half tempted to give you a call myself. There’s been a lot of activity at the roadside cafe. Much more cars coming and going, and a couple of odd men in what half looked like robes moving about. They obviously didn’t want to be seen, but we’ve got a camera in place that spotted them.”

“When exactly was this?” You ask.

“It started three days ago in the evening.” The day of your raid and the Order’s attack. “It’s calmed down since then, but there’s still a lot more people hanging around there.”

“And the slums?”

“We can’t be certain, though some of our contacts in the League say that there’s been strangers running around. They fit the description of the robed men at the cafe. The gang war’s been heating up, so we’ve had to stay out of there a lot more than I’d have liked. I’m trying to get an intervention team together, but my superiors are more concerned with politics than saving people.”
>>
He sighs. “Anyway, We haven’t been able to pinpoint the dealer’s usual spots, so the slums are a bit of a shot in the dark. They could be anywhere in the area your analyst came up with, and the gang territory changes every day. It’s getting increasingly volatile there, and they’re no longer holding back with police officers. One of my men is in the hospital from an attack, and the poor man was hit so hard he’s delirious. He claims he was smacked about by something invisible.”

You take a moment to consider this. The team to hit the slums should be a lot bigger than that of the cafe. With the latter, you can limit the playing field to just the cafe and the surroundings, but the slums are a war zone from the looks of things.

“Thank you for the information. Would it be possible to get access to that camera you mentioned?”

You hear some shuffling, and when Nettles talks again, it’s in whispers. “Not officially, but perhaps there could be a… Security leak.”

“Much appreciated. Now, my side is planning some actions the day after tomorrow. It’d be appreciated if your people were a bit out of the way by then. Preferably without knowing about our operation. A leak is easily made…”

“I understand. If this puts an end to that damn drug, I’ll make it so.” Nettles tells you.

“Goodbye DCI Nettles.” You lay in your com and call Lilliana.

>Preference in target?
>1. Slums. You’ll get a lot of back-up to deal with the gangs, but it’s probable that they’ll send someone else to lead the Op itself.

“Good morning ma’am.”

“Weston, good. Have you got what I need?”

Yes you do. You tell her everything you know.

“Hmm, that’d mean big team for the slums, smaller for the cafe. What’s your preference, Weston?”

“I’d prefer to take the cafe. From my interactions with my source I think I’ll be the most familiar with it, even if it’s only hearsay. And I will probably be able to get my hands on a camera feed inside the building there. Out of curiosity, who will lead the slums team then?”

“It’s not been decided yet, but we’ve pulled several teams off the mainland to help with this operation. There’s been talk of Gusteau getting command on it.” You’ve heard that name. It’s one of the more famous French Vindicators. He’s lead the main attack on a coven of wild magus terrorists with a lot less casualties on his side than the Vindex had feared they’d take. At least they’re in good hands.

“I’ll let you know the full details of the plan tomorrow morning then. Oh, it’s got a name now, Operation Daybreak. I have to go to work now. I suspect this’ll be an all-nighter for me again.”

She lays in the call and you head to the room destined to be the security room. It’s one of the rooms at the back in the middle, so a frontal or side attack won’t be able to damage it too much.

You’re surprised at how much progress they’ve made already. Most of the framework is there, and if they work like this another time it’ll be finished. They won’t even need you. You’ll need some more budget to fully finish it, but it’ll be a trivial matter to add that equipment to the room.

Do we still have a budget for some security addons?
Otherwise:

Nope. But that will soon be changing.

I did some counting that I should have been keeping track of a lot better, and you're on day 13 right now. I hadn't really put in a system for that yet since it's not hard numbers, but I've decided with you getting paid every two weeks.

That means tomorrow is pay day!

And you'll probably have to wait until the day after to actually be able to spend it.

The werewolf one might as well depending how they rule about urgent stuff like that.

Very well, roll me a Mind check then. I've noted down the DC for training in the pastebin some time ago, but I don't think I've actually mentioned it in thread. It's 55+ 5*lvl of the skill, so for Mind it's DC 70.

After lunch, you decide to train some more. You want to be in top shape for tomorrow. you focus on your concentration again, and…

Things go remarkably well. You feel some kind of burst of energy inside yourself as you improve much faster than you thought you could. By dinnertime, you feel as if your mind is much sharper than before, to complement your increased psychic powers. It’s… Strange, and slightly suspicious.

Katherine has started lifting weights, but she’s not all that impressive in physical strength. At a certain point Blake tells her to cut it out or she’ll be too stiff to join the Op tomorrow.

Blake himself seems to have mostly mastered the new style he was teaching himself earlier, even lacking a sparring partner.

Outside, Nathan, Liam and Raphael have been at the shooting range. Raphael has actually managed to hit things, and Nathan’s marksmanship is becoming impressive. Liam however, is complaining that he’s been relying on his precog abilities too much and that he’s let his actual shooting skills fall to the background a bit too much.

> Katherine and Liam failed
> Blake now has Melee 4
> Nathan now has Ranged 4
> Raphael now has Ranged 2
> You now have Mind 4.

You head to dinner and find Chinese food this time. It seems like Wooster’s been reading about a lot of eastern kitchens lately.

“Tomorrow will be Korean.” He confirms.

The first is bad, but the second means that we are in symbiosis... We are a neccesary part of its plan so it won't kill us of... No?

Oh, I missed this. You cannot train soul. You don't become more charismatic by standing in front of a mirror practicing speeches, etc.

It might increase for PLOT(tm) reasons, but you can't actively go out and increase it.

Anyway, writing for talking to Milly and evening off.
>>
>>39793749
It might have been a good idea to tell us that we can't train that during character creation.
>>
>>39793775
no problem: we seduce and sleep with Milly, huge confidence boost is gained, +1 to charisma... Great succes!!!

As everyone is finishing their plates, you stand up. “Milly, could I have a word with you? The rest of you, enjoy the evening.”

Milly follows you to your office, where you both sit down. “Did you detect anything out of the ordinary last night?”

She immediately whips out her tablet. “I did see an increase in mental energy, but all within parameters.”

“Well, I had a weird dream.” You describe it to her. It was unlike the other dreams you’ve had so far. Those were all from the point of view of… Whatever it was. The ‘IT’ as this dream called it. In this one, you felt as if you were simply you. But something more.

“It’s all pretty confusing.” You tell her.

“I see.”

“And that’s not all. I feel a lot stronger psionically, and when I was training just now my focus improved far beyond what it should have. It felt as if whatever it is in me is giving me a boost of some kind. to catch up with its peers?

“I would like to run a full scan on you in my Observatory, is that ok?”

I completely agree with playing the hand you're dealt, but I wish we'd known the rules as the game started.

“Ok, just promise me you won't phase out again during observation. I don't like it, doesn't seem like the real you when it happens”

She seems a bit taken aback. “I cannot promise that. This is a top priority case, and I might have to.”

“Very well then. Lead on.” You head to the observatory with her. You’ve never been in there, and once inside you take a good look around you.

It’s filled to the brim with all kinds of computers and devices. If you’d be asked to name just one of them you’d probably fail. Milly leads you to one of the big grey boxes in a corner, where she tells you to put a finger in one of the holes.

Suddenly you feel a a sting in the finger and you pull back out of instinct. It seems it needed a drop of blood. Milly taps a few buttons on the machine and then heads to her main computer. You’re about to follow her but she hold up her hand.

“Stay there, you need to be close enough. It’s internal scanners aren’t that powerful. It normally uses those on the roof but those can’t be pointed towards the house itself.”

While you’re standing there, you decide to make some conversation. “I’ve been wondering, do you automatically share all your knowledge with your siblings? Or is it conscious decision on your part?"

“Every piece of data that we learn is sent to my sisters, though not the experiences themselves.”

“What’s the difference then?” You ask

“For instance, when solving a case, I may have experienced a positive feeling. My siblings will know everything about the case, and that I had that feeling, but they do not actually get the positive feeling themselves. That is enough now. You can leave the machine now.”

“Was that it?” This seems a bit underwhelming. And you haven’t really gotten any answers.

“Yes it was. I will need to share the data and we will analyse it. You are free to leave.”

“How long is this going to take?”

“We don’t know.”

>2. Stay with her until it gets too late or you get the info
Chat, give her the info about possible rooms and upgrades. Ask if she might not have top-of-the line equipment here, and might want an upgrade since we're getting paid soon.

I'll be completely honest here. I didn't know them either yet.

I am crap with balancing, so I generally want to keep things as rules-light as possible. Now in my previous quest I found that it was a bit in-elegant, and there was no real sense of progression.

I wanted to do better for this quest, but I am still just as crap with balancing as before. I had again underestimated the preparation needed to run a quest and had to work on a few too many things after I had already started the quest.

But honestly, I've been thinking, and I can't really find a way to train Charisma (Soul). The closest I got was taking acting and public speech classes, but that seems a bit weird for this quest, so I think I'll stick to the plot-only improvements.
Perhaps some anons might write a speech so impressive for an appropriate situation that I might count that as progression? I don't really know yet.

>I will need to share the data and we will analyse it.
I meant that she will be going non-responsive from linking with her sisters. There won't really be opportunity to chat. Sorry if this was unclear.
>>
>>39794483
I'm cool with that.

Arbitrary bonuses for write-ins you consider suitable are fine too. No need for everything to be mirrored in mechanics.
>>
I'm going with "relax then go to bed" then.

It'll immediately be my last post for the night.
>>
“Ok, thank you then. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

You head to the R&R room and join Liam, Blake and Nathan in a round of… Well, a random board game. You can’t even pronounce its name. Once that’s finished, you wish them a good night and go to bed. You send the regular message to Milly, though you’re wondering if she’s still linked with her siblings. She’ll only see it once she’s herself again.

As you get into bed, you suddenly get an odd feeling again. Like something is watching you. you head to the windows and open the curtains. For a split second, you imagine seeing eyes in the distance, but when you look in their direction they’re already gone. Or weren’t there to begin with.

You close the curtains again and go back to bed, an uneasy feeling settling in your stomach…

> And that’s it for today. Thank you very much for joining in.
> Next thread will not be on Friday or Saturday, seeing how I’ll be at my dad’s place and he has it set up so the wifi shuts down at 12:30. Sunday it is then.

What effect would a Magic/psychic training room have on training? I'm guessing have rooms for training of specific kinds makes training DCs lower?
