You and En are on top of the remains of an aqua farm. Hadn’t been broken for very long either, it must have been operational until the shelter fell. The two of you are sprawled out, peering over the lip of the roof. The darkness of night was making it difficult to see, but you could spot a pack of Bats hanging from the entrance of the shelter. “Really thought there’d be more than just some Bats,” En whispers.

“There might be something inside, don’t get overeager,” you respond, squinting your eyes to try to count the glowing dots in the shelter entrance. Two, four, six, eight, ten, five are awake, another three are probably asleep. “Damn I wish I had a rifle right now.”

“Hey, if these people were raiding factories, they might have more cache’s for us. Here’s to hoping the present fairy likes you. From the last five days I’ve spent with you though, it’s a toss up,” En responds. “Well, I for one want a bed to sleep on, so let’s just go down there and cut our way in.”

En's ass is out of the fire. Let's see how he can cut Bats flying by his head.
>>
Not that it changes much, but I forgot to mention you have a 20% impairment due to darkness.
>>
“You can go down there, I’ll take the roofs,” you respond as you get into a crouch position. The shelter is two blocks away, and Bats aren’t too smart, so they probably haven’t noticed you. This section of the city was rather tightly built, forming into a sort of piece meal mall. Which is good for you, means no jumping over alleys.

“We’ve got to get me a gun,” En grumbles before rolling over the edge of the farm roof. For as heavy as he is, he lands light and quiet. Quickly breaking into a sprint, you hardly have time to jump off the roof yourself. Keeping a fair distance from the edge, you follow behind En, until the Bats finally take notice of the two of you. They screech, waking up their sleeping brethren before taking to the skies.

They noticed En, not you, making it easy for you to pick off three of them as they swirl through the night air. Whenever they make dive attacks on En, their flight pattern suddenly becomes much more manageable, and thus vulnerable. The only one you miss, En cuts down himself. When the three that had been sleeping take to the air, half the fight is already over.

As you’re reloading however, you feel the skull in your bag rolling.

“En, we got some kind of trouble coming,” you shout as you jump off the edge of the roof and land next to him. “Skull’s rolling over itself. Not sure if it’s excited or what, but it’s bad news for us,” you explain as you unload your revolver into the air, only managing to down one more of the Bats before one of them flies in behind you, biting down on your arm until you shove the revolver in its face. The force of its wings pushing off of you makes your shot go wide, but En manages to cleave it in two before it gets any speed. “Fucking Bats.”

Then a tremor rolls through the ground. More come in a slow steady pace. Something heavy is walking towards you. “Guess the big boy is coming to us,” En comments, fending off the surviving bats while you reload, eyes glued to the shelter entrance.

You groan as the beast walks out the entrance. It’s so tall it has to practically crawl to fit out the door, and even then, the massive horns on its head rip massive gouges through the steel. Minotaur, bout fourteen feet tall with a halberd. It huffs, a huge plume of condensation coming from its nose, as it stands up and towers over the two of you. Strangely though, there’s no change in the skull’s behavior.

“Fuck, keep the damn bats off me,” En states, spreading his feet out and hefting the sword up next to his head. The minotaur slams the butt of his halberd on the ground before crouching down.

“You sure you can take that?” you ask, slamming the cylinder back into place.

“Maybe.”

“That’s not very convincing.”

“Give me a break, it’s twice my size,” En responds, lowering his stance more. You shake your head and run to the side before the minotaur can charge, taking out the last of the bats with relative ease.

Luckily, it’s now a two on one against the minotaur. The concrete beneath its hooves breaks when it starts sprinting towards En. It’s bellowing roar could wake the dead, and you can see just a moment of hesitation out of En as the beast barrels down on him. The halberd comes crashing down on him with the full weight of the beast’s charge, and he responds with his own strike. Enough sparks fly to light up the entire street, in the moment before En is picked off his feet and thrown by the halberd.

His body smashes through the concrete and the sword goes flying in the opposite direction. The beast turns to you, glancing at the massive crack En put in its weapon. At least it’s too close to charge now.

You glance at the revolver in your hand, back to the towering beast next to you, and holster it. As you reach behind your back to break the strap off your shotgun and pull it around, the beast steps forward, swinging the halberd high in the air before crashing it down. The metal bites into the concrete where you’d been standing, giving you ample time to close in and press the barrel up against its leg and blow a round through its muscle.

The varmint shot shreds most of its thigh, but doesn’t knock it down. Without even flinching, the minotaur rips the halberd out and smashes it into your side, snapping your right arm. You grunt in pain as you’re thrown off your feet, landing a good distance away from it.

“He’s pretty fucking interested in me right now anyways,” you shout back to him as you back pedal from the minotaur. Your shotgun is still in your main hand, but the arm is too broken to hold it properly, so you pull your revolver out with your offhand. It grins, showing off its fangs, and starts stalking after you.

You turn and run for the nearest building, firing wildly behind you at the hulking beast. You’re not sure how many of your shots hit, but they seem to buy you enough time to get inside, put a few inches of concrete between you and his halberd. Through a window, you catch a glimpse of En sprinting for the sword again. And it looks like he just forced his shoulder back together.

He might be regenerating right now, but at least he’s fighting the minotaur and not you.

The lapse in concentration over En turns painful for you, as the tip of the halberd rips through the wall next to you, impaling your leg to the ground as the beast starts digging its body into the building to get at you. It shrieks and jerks up, breaking through the floor above you. It twists around, giving you a glimpse of En ripping the sword out of the demon’s leg.

“Don’t get cocky you fat bastard,” you growl, reaching across yourself to grab your shotgun. With one hand on the barrel to hold it against the head of the halberd, and your broken hand on the trigger, you turn your head away and blast the thing point blank. The metal explodes in just about every direction. Shards slice through your coat and pants, but renders the weapon useless.

The minotaur whines, and pulls back from the useless weapon, as En hacks at its back. But at fifteen feet, just thrashing with its limbs is dangerous enough. Luckily or not, En seems to have recovered more than enough to stay on his feet. While he’s busy cutting apart the demon’s arms, you rip the spike out of your leg and push yourself back to your feet. You take an unsteady step forward and pick up your shotgun again, putting the second shell through the beast’s back.

A light flashes in the distance, then the beast’s head explodes into gore. An instant later, the gunshot report arrives and both of you flinch down. The minotaur’s body lurches to the side and collapses. It exhales once, and stops moving. You and En glance at each other.

You’re about to suggest it’s your back up, when you hear their voice. “Come out slowly, and put your guns down! You have something of mine, fucking Safeguards.” Woman’s voice, relatively far away.

“You’re going to have to come down here, I’m a bit too injured to move,” you shout back, slipping into the recesses of the building and motioning for En to follow. You quickly reload both of your guns as En climbs atop the minotaur’s corpse and slices through the back of its neck. With one arm busted up though, you reattach the strap to your shotgun and sling it over your back, keeping your pistol out and ready.

Then you hear the distinct sound of an engine starting up. The loud whine of an electric engine being pushed to its limits. En just stands atop the corpse, keeping his eyes peeled for the woman. Fair enough decision. If she still has eyes on him, taking a bullet for walking inside would be wasteful.

You manage to prop yourself up against one of the windows, peering around the corner to watch her pull up on her bike. Young adult, seems to be acting alone. But decked out in more weapons than the two of you combined. And not just the standard fare. You recognize the make a few of them, Safeguard tech. The railgun strapped to her back must be what took down the minotaur. En speaks up, “Where’d you get all the toys?”

“From people who didn’t need them anymore,” she responds, pounding the kickstand into the ground to rest her bike. First thing she does after getting off the bike is put a bead on En’s chest with her pistol, same make as yours. “Where’s the other one?”

“Probably inside bleeding to death. What’s it to you? You trying to interfere with our work or something? Or do you just fancy more toys to collect?” En responds calmly.

I can also say I don’t even know what you’re talking about, which you can deny. But we can both agree that you know what you’re talking about, so why don’t you enlighten me?”

“Where’s the other demon?” she asks.

En tilts his head to the side. “I work alone?”

“I said demon shitbag, not Safeguard. There were two of you. The one with the gun is hiding somewhere, but I’ll find him soon enough. But there should have been two demons. The minotaur and another one I didn’t see, but I can smell it,” she explained, tapping her nose and looking behind herself.

“Don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, because the minotaur is the only one I ran in to, other than the fucking Bats,” En responds.

“The ones with bullet holes obviously in them?”

“Yeah those ones,” he responds, perfect deadpan.

“No, there’s another one around here. I just don’t know where. So why don’t we make this quick? Hand over the seal and I’ll be on my way. And you two can go back to your life as vagrant murderers,” she offers.

You're currently in a random wreck of a building. At one point it may have been used as a store of some sort, but disuses and local demons have reduced it to an empty shell filled with rubble.

Trying to flee from her would be difficult as she can apparently track you and has a motorbike for transportation while you only have your feet.

Worst case scenario we pop our serum and murder her. Giving her the demon seems to go against our purpose in life, so we won't be doing that.

“How bout I just destroy it right now? I don’t much like the idea of handing demon parts over to people I don’t know,” you call out. The woman’s head snaps around and she fires a few rounds at the window. The lead rips through the concrete around you, but doesn’t actually hit you. “The fuck do you think you’re doing?” you demand, finally revealing yourself as you reach into the bag and grab the skull. “I can crush this in the time it takes for you to shoot me.”

“You don’t have the balls. It’s as valuable to you as it is to me,” she responds as she grabs another of her guns and points it at En.

“Doesn’t mean I won’t do it out of spite.”

She holds her tongue. Glances at you, then at En when he chuckles. “It belongs to me and I want it. You two are a bit more talkative than I expected Safeguards to be. Hell, most of them work alone. You two gay or something?”

“If he is, he really needs to work on his small talk,” En responds. “It’s just so cold at night, you know? You must know what I’m talking about, since your boyfriend is a skull and all that.”

Yep, we can wait while you get a handle on your shit. Set up a twitter so we'll know when you're back.

Because if I'm not running, I'll still be procrastinating, but I'll instead be procrastinating by getting teabagged by tryhard 12 year olds in Reach. So it's kind of a toss up.

Tomorrow, eventually.

Aye mate, what these two said. Just pop off that last post and focus on finals. Don't sweat the quest til yer done.

“Why don’t you explain what it is first, and we might be a bit more agreeable. This thing was locked up for god knows how long till we ripped the door down. I’d sure like to know why a skull is looking at me, and how it’s shaking it’s spinal cord right now, despite not having muscles,” you explain, holding the skull at arms distance as it tries to squirm out of your crushing grasp.

She stares at you until you tighten down on the skull, making it flail wildly. “It’s… how to even describe this to you Neanderthals… It’s older than the Safeguards, older than the City even. The main feature is cloaking. With it you could walk straight through a fog wall unaccosted. Unless you piss one of them off and get your head ripped off of course.”

“That doesn’t really explain much.”

“Sorry I don’t have a fucking seminar prepared for you,” she snaps back.

“But it sounds like something that’d help me a great deal. How come the Safeguard don’t have these?” you ask as you start looking at the skull again. It seems completely normal, aside from still being alive anyways. Can’t see any breaks in it where something might have been inserted.

“Because there’s only so many in existence. That’s one of three I’ve found in my entire life, and I’ve been searching for them. It was supposed to be mine years ago, but the idiot you’re holding went and got himself torn apart,” she says, gritting her teeth and fighting the urge to adjust her aim to the skull. “Look, I don’t want any trouble with the Safeguard. You do you and all that, but I’m going to get killed one of these days if I don’t get that. And no shelter is going to help me.”

En stuffs his hands in his pockets and steps off the minotaur to walk over to her. “That’s only a half truth, girl. What’s got you so scared?”

Her eyes jump over to him. “You’re the one who should be scared. Or do you fancy the idea of having a new hole in your heart?”

“You’re either going to shoot me or you’re not. Fifty fifty, and OW!” En shouts as the woman puts a bullet hole through his side. “The fuck was that for?”

“Stay the hell away from me you filthy barbarian. You,” she says, looking back at you. “Call off your attack dog, or this is going to get real bloody real fast. I’m not leaving you without the Seal. Time for you to make a decision.”

And good night folks. See you tomorrow. Hope you're enjoying and all that jazz. Questions, comments?

Out of curiosity, what are our physical capabilities? Are we Space Marine or Captain America tier?

GET A TWITTER

Then maybe more than 3 of us at a time will post. I feel like my dumb ass has too much power here.

You've been fighting for years, this has given you enough training to go toe to toe with anything. The after effects of Serum (the regeneration mostly) has given you a body thick enough and strong enough to keep up with the monsters of the fog. Bones get stronger after healing correctly. You've had your bones broken a lot. And obviously, you heal stupid fast and don't die from, well, just about anything. You're going to need 408 hours to recover from these injuries however. (Multiple compound fractures in your arm, cracked femur, shredded quadriceps, floating ribs)

Going to have to after my final. I'm assuming they're freaking out over the MM2 box I bought yesterday.
>>
wooo, one final down, no credit card fraud.

I'll go about setting up a twitter, but I'm not planning on running more tonight. Sorry to disappoint.

While I'm doing so, how are you all liking the characters?
>>

I like Eddie, but we honestly don't know much about him and mister protagonist. You might want to give us a short backstory and description at some point.

Girly probably isn't that bad when she doesn't want something you have, but social relations aren't exactly her forte.

I like this quest, but man do you take your time.
