You are Randal Tallstag, a young lord of House Tallstag, one of the great five noble houses of the kingdom of Whitestar. There has been much trouble in Whitestar the past few years and your house has fallen greatly because of it. Barbarians from the far North have invaded your kingdom and stolen much of its land, nearly wiping out your entire noble house save for you and a few others in your family, namely your father and your uncle and his family.

After being made an official King's Rangerby the King of Whitestar himself, you and Trista are being taken north by fellow rangers to the headquarters. After two days of travel you have finally arrived at Highspire Castle, headquarters for the rangers.

Catch up with the story by reading the past threads here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Will%20of%20Ice%20Quest

You think for a moment and then ask, ”Can you tell me the history of the rangers and Highspire Castle?”

“Certainly,” Brom responds, “so as you know, our kingdom was founded around 1,000 years ago, but the rangers date back to when Whitestar was a city-state, though oir exact origins are unknown. We patrolled and explored the wilds, helping any that we came across. We reported our findings in the wilds and helped develop and chart maps for the kingdom. We guided armies and helped to expand our borders. We’ve taken part in many a battle as well and even are considered as an entire division by the military. In fact it was us rangers who played a key role in the defeat the barbarians at Dragon Tooth Valley, thus halting their advance south 6 years ago.”

You respond with amazement as you walk into the tallest tower of the castlee and head up the stairs, “Wow, I had no idea rangers were that prevalent in helping Whitestar grow and develop, but I did know about their helping in the war with the barbarians. That makes me wonder though, what will I being doing here exactly? What are my duties as a ranger?”

Brom thinks for a moment before answering, “Hmm, well first thing tommorow you’ll be heading to the armory to get your ranger gear, then you’ll be sparring and training all day with the rest of the new recruits. But, for the first month you’ll be doing nothing but solid training, the first week will be set for you, after words you can specialize since your a King’s ranger. Then you’ll be doing a solid month of patrols with a squad. As for duties, it will depend on how you specialize, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”

After saying this you climb a few flights of stairs and arrive at a hallway with only one door at the end of it, there is a woman in plate armor standing outside of it, she takes notice and speaks. “Brom, I see you’ve brought the new recruits for the Lord Commander to see, he‘ll be seeing the young lord first.”

“Very well Janna,” Brom replies, he then turns to you, “Looks like your up, we’ll wait out here.”

You nod and walk down the hallway, the woman in plate opens the door as you walk into the office of the Lord Commander and she closes it behind you. You walk in and see a very well kempt office with a large desk at the center, there are papers organized on it. At the center of the table you see a paper and can make out your name on it. You turn your right to see a large man in plate staring out a window overlooking a courtyard. He says nothing, you’re not sure if he knows your there.

You decide to say nothing, after all, you are in the presence of the Lord Commander of not just the King’s Rangers, but of all rangers in the kingdom of Whitestar. You know that when dealing with high ranking or important figures, that it is best to not speak until spoken to. After what seems like an eternity, the Lord Commander lets out a sigh and finally speaks.

“Thank you for seeing me Lord Randal Tallstag,” the Lord Commander says in a gruff voice, still staring out the window. “When I got word you would be joining the King’s Rangers I wasn’t too surprised. Tallstags have always made fine rangers. I don’t expect you to be any different, you are your father’s son after all. Your brother, may the Three watch over him, was an exceptional ranger too. And your uncle, he is an excellent officer.”

You continue to remain silent, you’ll know when he wants you to speak.

“I see your father has raised you well,” the Lord Commander finally turns to face you. You instantly recognize the face, its Peter Stormwind, head of the great noble house Stormwind. Lord Commander Stormwind continues, “You know to remain silent when a superior is speaking, I respect that, please sit.”
>>
>>39750435
You take a seat in front of the desk and Lord Commander Stormwind walks over from the window to sit behind his desk.

“Now then, you’re a King’s Ranger now, but you’re a recruit, so you have a lot to proove. Even more so since you’re a Tallstag. You’ve got a lot to live up to boy. But before any of that I want you to tell me why you’re here, why become a King’s Ranger. I want the truth too, I’ll know if you’re lying boy.”

>”I want to serve my kingdom sir. I believe the best way to do that is to be a King’s Ranger.”

You think to yourself for a moment before remembering the sealed letter from the king that you had on you. Princess Lydia had given it to you after she revealed she had seen your vision and told the king about it. The king then wrote that letter with the intention of you delivering it to him. You pull the letter out of your pack and hand it to him.

“Before I tell you that sir, I also have a letter from the king to give you.”

“Oh, I see, good to see its still sealed. Better read it now.”

Lord Commander Stormwind opens the letter and begins reading it. You see the expression on his face change to a grave one. He glances up momentarily at you with his mouth agape, then goes back to reading. You’re not sure what it says but you are certain its very important. After a minute or so he stands up and walks over to a safe in the corner, he opens it and places the letter inside, making sure it is secure. He walks back over and sits down, this time he leans forward across his desk and examines you closely before finally speaking in a very serious voice.

“Alright, I’m going to ask you a few questions, and you are going to answer them. First one. Did you tell anyone about that letter or show it to them?”

“No sir, no one but me, the princess, and the king have seen it. I don’t even know what it says.”

“Very well, you’re not lying about that one, next question. Have you ever been affiliated with the Hornraven’s closely, or ever spoken to Lord Jon Hornraven, the head of the great house Hornraven?”
>>
>>39751022
You remember princess Lydia’s warning about the Hornravens, how she nor her father trusted them, how she believed they were corrupt. She didn’t she have proof, but she was sure they were up to no good. But as far as you know, you’ve never really dealt with them, they lived in the southernmost reaches of the kingdom, far away from your family.

“No sir,” you answer, “I have not, and while I’ve heard of Jon Hornraven I can’t say that I have ever met him in person.”

“Good, you’re not lying there. Last question, what did you see in your vision at your coming of age ceremony when you touched the everice? Tell me everything.”

Quick question from one QM to another

Havr you ever felt discouraged by having only two or three anons, or not that many upvotes? Only asking because sometimes I do, and the rate at which i get only a few anons grinds on me.
>>
>>39751294
He does as is obvious from the previous thread. I wouldn't let it discourage you or you'll never make it as a QM. This quest is actually doing quite well thus far. Keep in mind that the content matters. An anime fanfiction quest that panders to fetishists will be far more popular than a traditional old school fantasy quest, which for some reason I can't fathom, seems to not be popular on /tg/, with sometimes outright hatred shown towards these types of quests. Best advice is to just keep at it. It takes awhile but you'll eventually gain a small but dedicated group of players.
>>
>>39751038
You decide it is for the best to not lie to Lord Commander Stormwind, seeing as how you’re fairly certain he can tell whether or not you’re lying. You tell him everything about your vision, how you were in a cave with a huge glacier of ice that shined like sapphire, how a mixture of voices spoke to you, and told you to join the King’s Rangers, so that events could be set in motion to restore the kingdom. The Lord Commander doesn’t say a word or interrupt you during any of this, he only listens closely. You continue with what you say and experienced. You also decide to tell him about The Stranger, since he was mentioned in your vision.

You tell of how The Stranger spoke to you at the capital, telling you to join the King’s Rangers as well, about how he told you he represents a group called the Enforcers of Ice’s Will. You tell the Lord Commander that The Stranger told you a member of his group betrayed him 10 years ago and set about the events to the barbarians taking over much of the northern kingdom. You even mention how he convinced you that he could be trusted by showing you his Tallstag brand over his heart, the same as yours.

The Lord Commander doesn’t speak for a few minutes after you tell him all of this. He only sits in silence, quietly pondering over what you’ve said. Finally he speaks up.

“Thank you for being honest with me Randal. I’m sure you had your doubts about telling me this, but the king sent that letter to me for a reason. You can trust me. And now, I know I can trust you.”

“Thank you sir.”

“You said that after joining the King’s Rangers, this Stranger would speak to you again. Did he ever say when?”

“No sir, he just said he would reach out to me sometime after I joined. I have no clue when or where he’ll turn up.”

“Very well, then it is late now Randal, and I still have to speak to Trista. That is all for now, welcome to the King’s Rangers. You may leave.”

“Thank you again sir,” you say as you bow slightly and leave out the door.

You walk out into the hallway and tell Trista she is up next. You wait for her in the hallway along with Brom. Janna, Lord Commander Stormwind’s bodyguard, remains silent and stares silently forward the whole time. After about 15 minutes, Trista walks out with a smile and Brom speaks up.

“Ah, now that you have spoken to the Lord Commander it is time I show you to your quarters. Follow me please.”

You and Trista do so and follow him downstairs, you walk out of the tower and across the courtyard. The moon is high in the sky and you wager it is almost 10pm. You arrive to a building with a sign on it reading “King’s Ranger private rooms”. Brom opens the door and leads you in. You walk down an empty hallway with wooden doors on both sides, you guess they are bedrooms for the King’s Rangers. You’re lead to a cross roads of the hallway and taken to the right and down to the end. It is there that Brom unlocks two doors, both opposite of each other. He hands you and Trista each a key.

“These are your rooms from now on, and your keys to go with them. Also, a few rules. Curfew for those not on the night guard is at 11pm, do not make a ruckus after 8pm, so as to not disturb your neighbors, and finally, do not steal from or assault your brothers and sister rangers. There are more rules, but those are what you need to know right now. I shall now take my leave, have a good evening.”

Brom walks off, leaving you and Trista to tend to yourselves.

Before Trista walks into her room, you stop her and grab her hand

“Hey Trista, I was going to relax in my room for a bit by reading before going to bed, would you like to join me?”

“Of course I would, do you mind if I change in there though?”

“Not at all.”

You both walk into your room and you see it is actually quite nice. The stone room looks quite comfy with a decently sized bed, enough for two people. It even has a small fire place, a soft rug, and an oak dresser, and a full length mirror in the corner. There is also a privy through a wooden door. However there doesn’t seem to be a bath or anything in it, just a sink and toilet.

“I’m going to change in the privy Randal, go ahead and read start reading,” Trista say as she closes the door behind her.

You decide to pull out “Rules and Regulations of the King’s Rangers” so that you can familiarize yourself with the rules so that you can stay out of trouble. You open the book, lay down on the bed, and begin reading it. You read past the introduction and then dive into the rules, the first three are the ones Brom mentioned. No staying out after curfew, not disturbing your neighbors after 8pm, not stealing or assaulting fellow members. The next few do catch your eye though.

“Rule #4: Under no circumstances is a man allowed into the female’s bathing house, and vice versa, to break this rule it to be forced to do one week of hard labor. Rule #5: Disobeying a direct order from a superior is strictly forbidden, and is punishable by one week hard labor or 5 days in the stockade after the first warning, 30 lashes and a week in the stockade after the second, and death after the third. Rule #6: Killing a fellow member is the ultimate taboo and is punishable by death more often than not, however, the Lord Commander has the final say in punishment, and it can vary from case to case.”
>>
>>39752665
The book continues on for a few more rules, but it is nothing you don’t already know, don’t be late for duties or training, don’t fall asleep on the job, etc, common sense stuff. You finish and close the book, looking up to see Trista locking your bedroom door, she has let her hair down and is completely undressed. She turns and walks over to you and lays down beside you on the bed. She begins to slowly run her fingers through your hair.

“Randal,” she whispers softly into your ear, “I’m feeling ready for you again.”

You’re dumbfounded by Trista’s sudden advance and can only mutter the first thing that comes to mind.

”umm...I don’t know what to say but okay.”

Trista giggles and responds, “Of course, Randal Tallstag is still shy when it comes to love making. That what makes you so cute. Now then, just lay back and let me handle this.”

Trista begins kissing you and undressing you at the same time. First to come off is your shirt, then your pants. Trista then sits herself on top of your crotch and begins rotating her hips. You can see the hunger in her eyes again as she smiles down on you. She absolutely desires you.

----
You wake up the next morning as first light pierces through your window. You look over to see that Trista is cuddled up next to you under the covers, she has a smile on her face. She looks so at peace right now, it brings warmth to your heart and you grin at the sight. You try to get up but Trista is clinging to you.

“Mmm no,” Trista mutters in her sleep, “Don’t go, I want more.”

Its no surprise she’d say that even in her sleep, but you carefully take Trista off of you and climb out of bed. You get dressed and ready for the day. After you finish doing so, you finally wake Trista up and kiss her on the forehead.

“Oh, good morning Randal,” she says kissing you back on the lips, “Did you enjoy last night as much as I did?”

“Of course, you were great.”

“Hehehe, good to know.”

“Yeah, anyways, you should get up and ready, we start training today.”

“Alright.”
Trista gets up and dressed, and the both of you head down to the dining hall to eat. You both manage to find some seats and begin filling your plates off the platters on the tables. Not long after you start eating breakfast, Brom shows up and sits down beside you.

“Ah good to see you’re up and eating, you’ll be needing it. Your training starts today. I fact, I have both of your weekly schedules for you, though they are both the same for right now.”

Brom hands you and Trista a schedule, it shows that for this whole week you and Trista will be doing recruit sparring and training from 8:30am-4:30pm each day, with a break for an hour of lunch at12:00pm.

“But, before you can both start,” Brom says, “we have to get you outfitted with proper ranger uniforms. So we have to stop by the armory after your both are done eating.”

“Alright, sounds good,” says Trista.

“I agree,” you respond.

After you finish eating, you and Trista follow Brom to the armory. You walk in it to see a large rack of weapons on one wall, and on the opposite wall, a wide variety of armors, from leather to full plate. You hear hammer strikes echoing throughout the armory, Brom leads you to the hammering’s source. You can’t believe your eyes, its an ice forge, one of the five great ice forges created by Tor in olden times. The magical blue ice fire shines brightly throughout the blacksmith room. On the forge is a dwarven man, hammering away at a halfway formed steel weapon. He seems concentrated, but he looks up and at the sight of Brom, gets his assistant to take over. He walks over and reaches up to shake Brom’s hand.

“I see you ‘ave some new recruits do yee?”

“I do Fargrim, they’ll be needing armor of some sort. Think you can help them out?”

“O’course I can, that’s what I’m ‘ere for ain’t it?” The dwarven man, who seems to be named Fargrim, walks up you and sizes you up before speaking. “Well then, what kind o’ armor will you be wearing? We’ve got a wide selection!”
>>
>>39753606
Fargrim takes you back to the armor section and shows you the armor. There is padded armor, plain leather, studded leather, partial chain mail (studded leather armor but with a chain mail shirt), scale mail, full chain mail, partial plate(chest plate, pauldrons, and shin guards, over full chain mail) and full plate.

“I’ll take the partial chain mail armor.”

“A good choice, not to heavy and bulky to slow you down, but sturdy enough to take a blow.”

Fargrim then gets a set of the armor you picked and hands it to you. You go into a back room of the armory and change into it. It doesn’t feel too heavy and seems to be an overall nice fit, hardly limiting your movement. You walk out and see that Trista has selected full chain mail armor, but you figure that suits her, seeing as she likes fighting up close more so than you do. She heads back to change as well. After she comes back, Brom comes up to both of you with green hooded cloaks and golden pins with a symbol of the kingdom of Whitestar on them, a six pointed star inside a circle.

“You’ll be needing these, now that you are full fledged King’s Rangers,” he says handing you the cloaks and pins.

“Thank you Brom,” you reply, “And thank you Fargrim, this armor seems superb.”

“Think nothin’ of it, it was my pleasure,” Fargrim says with a smile, “Now then I must be getting back to my forge before it misses me.”

Fargrim takes his leave, leaving you, Trista and Brom in the armory hall.

“Well then,” chimes Brom, “Time to show you to your sparring lessons, follow me, I’ll take you to your sparring master, he’s probably fighting right now.”

You and Trista do so, walking outside to the training square in the center of the castle. There, you see plenty of rangers doing drills, performing exercises, sparring in the fighting circles, and shooting arrows down the archery range. Brom leads you to one of the fighting circles where there is a particularly large crowd. There are men cheering as you hear the clash of steel and loud grunts of fighting. The three of you make your way to the wooden fence separating the crow from the sparring arena. Inside you see a man clad in chain mail with a great helm wielding a dulled two-handed axe, probably dulled to fight in the sparring arenas, and a man with a sword and dagger in his hands, both dulled as well.

The man with the sword and dagger charges, raising his sword. He brings it down, only to have it blocked by the axe of the man in chain mail, but then he brings his dagger in with his other hand to stab. However the man in chain mail grabs the dagger hand of the other with his hand, stopping the blow. The man in chain mail uses the opportunity to head butt the other with his great helm, knocking him to the ground. The crowd cheers as the man in chain mail stand victorious over his foe. He takes off his helmet, and....wait its your uncle! Is he really going to be your sparring instructor?

“Hello Walter,” greets Brom to your uncle, “ I have some new recruits for you!”
