You are Randal Tallstag, a young lord of House Tallstag, one of the great five noble houses of the kingdom of Whitestar. There has been much trouble in Whitestar the past few years and your house has fallen greatly because of it. Barbarians from the far North have invaded your kingdom and stolen much of its land, nearly wiping out your entire noble house save for you and a few others in your family, namely your father and your uncle and his family.

After being made an official King's Rangerby the King of Whitestar himself, you and Trista are being taken north by fellow rangers to the headquarters. After two days of travel you have finally arrived at Highspire Castle, headquarters for the rangers.

You walk in through the iron gates and portcullis of Highspire Castle with Trista, Lieutenant Starwood, Robert, Sariel and the mounted rangers. You arrive in the main courtyard of the castle and find many people walking about, tending to their various duties and winding down as the day ends, most of them appear to be other rangers. There is a single man, however is standing in front of you party, seemingly to greet you. He appears to be a young man, perhaps in his mid twenties with red hair and a striking red mustache and chin beard.

“Greetings and welcome to Highspire Castle, home of the rangers,” the man says to you and Trista with eagerness in voice, “my name is Sergeant Brom Thardel, castle steward and instructing ranger for new recruits, and I will be giving you a brief tour of the castle this evening.” You and Trista both greet him in kind and Brom then turns to Lieutenant Starwood, “Lieutenant Starwood, the captain has instructed me relieve you, you may and your men may go, I’ll take over from here.”

“Thank you very much Brom, I’ll be in to see the captain shortly after we drop our things off,” the lieutenant responds. He then turns to you and shakes your hand saying, “Randal, it was an honor to see you hear safely, I expect great things from you, and I know you’ll do well. See you soon!”

After the lieutenant and the others leave Brom continues, “Very well then we should get started, but wait! I see you are hurt Randal, here please drink this potion!”

“Oh well its not too bad, but thank you,” you say taking the red potion. You drink the red elixir, it tastes sweet and has a fragrant smell, instantly you begin to feel better, and you see the wounds on both your hand and shoulder heal up.

“Good now that that is taken care of we can continue our tour, please follow me. Now then, is there a place you would like to see? You can see two places before I take you to see the Lord Commander, as it is late and time is short.”

“I’d like to swing by the dining hall and get something to eat, and then survey the training ground afterwords,” you respond.

Brom responds with a smile, “Excellent, follow me then.” You follow Brom through the castle courtyard and are awe stricken at the sheer size of some of the towers and the walls of the castle. It might not be as big as your home, Northwind Castle, but it is bigger than what you had imagined. You continue making your way through until you arrive at two large reinforced wooden double doors that are opened. Inside you see the massive dining hall, within it you see 5 long tables and one head table, there are at least by your count around 500 men and women inside eating. On the tables are platters of food, and people carrying full ones to the tables and empty ones from them into a single pair of double doors at the back of the room.

You and Trista find an empty area on one of the tables near the entrance and eat quickly, so as to not be late. The food is absolutely wonderful, better than anything you’ve had the last few days. You make a mental note to find out who the head cook is later on. After eating you and Trista follow Brom out, he leads you into what looks like the training ground. Its located in the center of the entire castle area, and the training area is just as massive as the dining hall. There is an archery range with varying distances and targets, fighting dummies alongside weapon racks, and small arena in which you assume sparring takes place. You also see what looks like a jousting tourney field.

“It is impressive no?” asks Brom with an upbeat tone.

“Very much so, this castle is almost as big as my home Northwind Castle. I think I’ll be enjoying my stay here,” you add.

“Good to hear, but now our time is up, I need to take you to see the Lord Commander, he has been expecting you.”

“Very well but I have a few questions to ask along the way if you don’t mind,” you say as you and Trista walk behind Brom.

“Ask away.”

>”Tell me the history of the rangers and Highspire Castle.”

You think for a moment and then ask, ”Can you tell me the history of the rangers and Highspire Castle?”

“Certainly,” Brom responds, “so as you know, our kingdom was founded around 1,000 years ago, but the rangers date back to when Whitestar was a city-state, though oir exact origins are unknown. We patrolled and explored the wilds, helping any that we came across. We reported our findings in the wilds and helped develop and chart maps for the kingdom. We guided armies and helped to expand our borders. We’ve taken part in many a battle as well and even are considered as an entire division by the military. In fact it was us rangers who played a key role in the defeat the barbarians at Dragon Tooth Valley, thus halting their advance south 6 years ago.”

You respond with amazement as you walk into the tallest tower of the castlee and head up the stairs, “Wow, I had no idea rangers were that prevalent in helping Whitestar grow and develop, but I did know about their helping in the war with the barbarians. That makes me wonder though, what will I being doing here exactly? What are my duties as a ranger?”

Brom thinks for a moment before answering, “Hmm, well first thing tommorow you’ll be heading to the armory to get your ranger gear, then you’ll be sparring and training all day with the rest of the new recruits. But, for the first month you’ll be doing nothing but solid training, the first week will be set for you, after words you can specialize since your a King’s ranger. Then you’ll be doing a solid month of patrols with a squad. As for duties, it will depend on how you specialize, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”

After saying this you climb a few flights of stairs and arrive at a hallway with only one door at the end of it, there is a woman in plate armor standing outside of it, she takes notice and speaks. “Brom, I see you’ve brought the new recruits for the Lord Commander to see, he‘ll be seeing the young lord first.”

“Very well Janna,” Brom replies, he then turns to you, “Looks like your up, we’ll wait out here.”

You nod and walk down the hallway, the woman in plate opens the door as you walk into the office of the Lord Commander and she closes it behind you. You walk in and see a very well kempt office with a large desk at the center, there are papers organized on it. At the center of the table you see a paper and can make out your name on it. You turn your right to see a large man in plate staring out a window overlooking a courtyard. He says nothing, you’re not sure if he knows your there.

>”Excuse me sir, but I’m Randal Tallstag, a new recruit. You wished to see me?”
>”Uh...hello?”

alright I'm going to ask, should I keep going with such a small amount of players?

I can always run again tomorrow.

Its kind of discouraging that I don't have that many players by now.
>>
>>39739591
Your call boss man. Lots of quest running right now.
>>
>>39739591
It's your call. But there certainly are alot of them running at this time so I'm not all that surprised it's just us.
>>
>>39739697
>>39739751
might as well, I'll run tomorrow at my usual time of 1-3pm EST, perhaps me running late today threw a lot of people off.

I really enjoy running this quest, don't get me wrong, but it seems like there are so many others right now, its probably hard to keep people interested in mine.

Good night guys. I'll be on tomorrow and run for sure. Sorry for all this. :/

Quests rise and fall all the time the longer this one endures the more audience it'll get.
>>
>>39739834
Thank's for the heads up.

I like this quest too and it's not your fault people were running today you can't control everything.
>>
>>39739919
>>39739932
Thanks anons, I'll keep that in mind. I'll keep running for sure. I'll get a sizable audience eventually.
>>
>>39739980
A bit late, but oh well, I'll see you tomorrow.
I just want to agree with the other anons. This is normal for new quests, especially a traditional fantasy quest. I personally love these types of stories and will be following your quest but you have to keep In mind that this type of traditional fantasy quest will never be that popular. You'll never have a large amount of players, the best you'll get is a small number of dedicated players. Don't let that bother you or get you down. Just keep running and eventually your small audience will grow a little larger. Dedication and following through matters a lot on /tg/ quests.

thanks anon glad to hear it. I'll be running for sure tomorrow. I'm spending this evening now just fleshing out plot and more story.

I'm not giving up, just kinda got discouraged today.
