You are Ur'shal, chieftain of the Stonetusk Clan and ruler of all you survey, which unfortunately at this stage is just rocks, rocks and more rocks. To support your large clan and its slaves, you need a lot of food, something which the Great Wastes has in rather short supply. That means you need more land to hunt.

While the Tonguerippers may be no more, their legacy is still causing you some ongoing frustration, in the form of the countless Gaunts lurking in their former territory. It's annoying, but for the next few months you're going to be lacking in the forces to move against your other enemies while most of your clan clears out this infestation, or you'll wind up with a lot of dead hunters and no way to feed yourselves.

Still, while you can't make any bold moves against Slaagyr or the shapeshifters, you still need to figure out a good use of your time while you wait. If you want to make any plans regarding the organization of your clan, or your own personal advancement, now is the time to put them into action.

Afraid today's thread is probably going to be a bit civ-y, while we sort out things happening during the timeskip.
>>
>>39669075
Ideas:
Slaagyr has a coalition of human tribes working for him along with various other beasties. If we could turn one or more of them against him, our job would be easier.
Fortress: Continue to improve the defenses on our home. Walls and actual homes for everyone. Move to a more defensible location if need be
Military: Start with an actual squad foundation, getting too elaborate at this point is pointless because we lack numbers.

Seconded, and also make a plan on what to do with shapeshifters.
I remember there was one of making the shapeshifter orc children to be a separate tribe a bit away from us, and that we should get the alpha female before going along with the plan.
Also did we get any boons/dreams?

>Slaagyr has a coalition of human tribes working for him along with various other beasties. If we could turn one or more of them against him, our job would be easier.
Seems like too much of a hassle, I doubt orcs would really see that is an orc-y idea, and there's no reason he couldn't just crush a small tribe of humans if they went against him.
>Fortress: Continue to improve the defenses on our home. Walls and actual homes for everyone. Move to a more defensible location if need be
General improvements sound okay, though I don't see the reason for "actual homes", tents are habitable enough.
>Military: Start with an actual squad foundation, getting too elaborate at this point is pointless because we lack numbers.
If it would please Zol'gor Tor then that's fine, but I'm pretty sure we already pretty much have this with out council members commanding people as they see fit.
>>39669075
Maybe assign dedicated members to a squad of our old stealthy guy, so we can get some more Zol'gor Tor pleasing going too? More warriors for Ya'zada, see if we can't find someone with berserker potential?
Maybe look into that underground river if surface dealings get stable enough.
Learn more about the gods like >>39669304 said.
MAYBE learn some arcane shit IF we turn out talented at it, but not if it takes a significant amount of time.
Learn to shoot a bow, learn to ride a vulture.
Learn more languages yo.
Learn about elven/human culture/tactics for the future.
Open the chest we brought back from the Skyhunter camp.
See if we can't figure out how magical our axe is through experimentation.
Learn how to fight more effectively with more types of weapons.
See if the elves or humans know of any useful technology.
Raid more tombs for cool shit.
Get a report from our mages on their progress with sniffing out the spy.
That's all I have for now, since I suppose you want to save the boon/etc. reveal until after/during the time skip?
Get a map from Aurora.
>>
>>39669075

Try to learn some languages from the slavery chick.
Check our loot.
Check out our old black Smith.
Check out the underground river.

Check out boons.

this and maybe a group or two of 30-40 orcs on gaunt hunting.
So Warlord hows the map going, and just to make sure, to reach the mountains or the jungle its now a week not a day, also on what kind of calendar does the world work?

>there's no reason he couldn't just crush a small tribe of humans if they went against him.
Alone, yeah though that would mean one less tribe of humans to throw at us, so its a win anyway, especially if his forces took any casualties taking out the traitors. A more successful rebellion would give us a useful auxiliary force to cover the years until our first baby boom matures. It'll be a decade or so before we start really getting replacements for our casualties naturally.
>>
>>39669505
It also means less roundears to enslave, though.
>>
>>39669075
So I was going through the character sheets, and I noticed that, besides ourselves, the only orcs with Y'zagya Zoka favour are Za'ria and Koz'rak. I get Za'ria, since she's basically the Slavewhisperer, but Koz'rak doesn't have any more non-orc slaves than some of the other guys. Is it because he has more varied species in his harem, or does his handling of his slaves stand out to Y'zagya Zoka?
>>
Well, whole lot of things here, so we'll go through them one by one.

Firstly, the human tribes working for Slaagyr. If you want to convince them to turn on him, you will need to send some orcs out there to speak with them. So do you want to do so, and if so, who do you want to lead the mission?

Looks like no wins on that one.

Moving on then. The camp. Do you want to build actual homes out of stone, improve the fortifications, or leave it be. Ur is aware that in time he'll have to leave the wastes or spread his people out a lot more so it can support their growing numbers, but it's a good base of operations for the moment.

That underground river has DANGER PLOT HOOK written all over it, anon, no reason to think it's safer unless we know things about it and have explored it to some degree, especially since the surface isn't exactly unsafe, considering we have Vulture surveillance and it's pretty hard to sneak up on people in a barren wasteland and have been living comfortably for months.
>>
>>39669766
>>Homes and Fortifications
>>
>>39669874
I figured it can be good for alot of reason to go underground.
1.Hide our numbers
2.harder to spy on
3.protected from the heat
4.has a good supply of water, (and if the orcs know how to do it food.)
5.The river could lead to some where better
6.could be a good escape route.
I do agree on exploring it first though.
>>
Homes and fortifications win.

Do you actually want to dig down into the underground? It will result in you digging down into the underground river and caverns surrounding it, which would give you a lot of free space, but... well, that's IF you want to dig down into the underground river and caverns surrounding it.

>Dig underground
>Stick to the surface
>>
>>39669926
We're orcs not goblins or dwarves we don't burrow, we sprawl.

On the topic of underground construction though let's try N find/redirect one of those underground rivers for while we're still here, this place can eventually serve some purpose in our future orcish kingdom

>>39669951

>>
>>39669951
>Dig underground
The space will be nice, we need the water, and better we know what's down there than have a pack of gaunts crawl out of the ground in the middle of the camp, or have Slaagyr poison the river somewhere upstream.
>>
>>39669926
I find it unlikely that orcs would be willing to switch to an underground life style, they're not dwarves or whatever likes that shit, plus carving out an area fit for our numbers would take a long ass time.
Depends on the kind of spying, assuming Slaggyr has been doing magical dickery or the Goats, it wouldn't help much.
I don't think it bothers us much.
We've already worked out a well/are building a well system.
Or somewhere worse, underground rivers aren't known of leading to surface paradises.
Where to, that's right no idea and depends on the previous one.
>>39669951
>Stick to the surface
Just like a 5m deep place for prisoners or something? Though that'd get hard to clean I suppose, so maybe we should forget about that idea. Just some stone structure to serve as a prison, then?

>>
>>39669951
Okay, to clarify, are we talking hobbit-hole type digging, here? I was kind of picturing making a kind of roundish gorge down to where the water is, open to the air at the top and with storage chambers and cells opening off of it. More useable space, but not just moving the clan underground.

I think the underground river exploration would need to be done actively, not just skipped over, anon.

Would we have anyone who knows how to grow mushrooms or the like? Or we could try to set up an irrigation system with the ogres help

Your clan will not move entirely underground without a very good reason, so it would be more like some storage spaces/ cells and fallback positions and a route down to the underground river rather than living quarters.

Alright, looks like you're breaking into the caverns and river. I did note the requests to scout it first, so don't worry.

Right then, next on the agenda. Squad formations? Right now your clan lacks the discipline for anything really organized, especially since you lack much in the way of uniform arms and armor, but you could certainly start dividing the clan up into smaller units with bosses who could report to your lieutenants. If you wish?

>Yes
>No

If you have anything further you want to add about ideas for how to organize them, now's the time to say so.

>>39670116
>I can't remember how big is the river, big enough for escape boats?

Perhaps for small ones, though you don't know whether the river has enough space above the water level the whole way along to make it anywhere useful. Also you have no-one in your clan who knows anything about boat building, so that could be a problem.

Ur's Lieutenants

Ur
Ur's Lieutenants
Unit/Pack Bosses
Every other orc, divided into units/packs
>>
>>39670175

Just get some unified training down, maybe just have some bigger divides not necessarily squads.
I feel like too much organization right now would be unnatural, especially since we don't even have a Zol'gor Tor priest or anything.
Like, quarter up the forces or something.
>>39670202

>>39670430
8-10 sounds good.
lets them really know their teams.
And make it random, so everyone works with if possible at least 1-2 from each clan.
So we're more unified and not teams of 5 teams x from x clan.
Will get some getting accustomed to be with these next coming months would be wise for everyone to get buddy buddy with everyone at camp.
>>
>>39670554
>>39670527

>implying I know anything about anglo-saxon military terms in general
Nigga what the fuck is even a squad, how should I know that has an upper number limit.
>>39670557
Still too small for me, and it's not a good idea to mesh everyone together, especially at random, since we have two war gods and most orcs would lean to either one or the other, having a specialized unit or two could be beneficial.
I assume someone like Or'kug, Ku'zag, or Za'ria would know about tactical shit, so let's hear what our more experienced people say.
>>
>>39670430
then 15-10 should be good. Not all the orcs are going to be mobilized at once

Once we start raiding we send out teams of 30-50, and we clean up the wastes while searching for crypts for weapons and armors.

The next few weeks pass by relatively uneventfully, your clan mostly dividing their attention up between clearing out the gaunts, hunting the scarce game of the wastes, and ensuring that you have enough warriors guarding the camp that Slaagyr can't catch your clan unaware.

When the next full moon comes, the coven once again carries out their ritual, sacrificing another of the dwindling supply of captives you have to their ogre god. The boost in power allows them to make great strides in altering the shape of the camp, further enhancing the fortifications and building in structures to house your clan from the rock itself. Even with the full moon, the alterations are still not complete, though the coven have ensured to rip open a tunnel down to the caverns and river, to allow you to scout out the unexplored subterranean region.

In the meantime, you have your lieutenants divide the clan up into smaller packs of 8-10 with a leader chosen for each. You made sure that the lieutenants, especially Or'kug and Ya'zada, knew that the packs were to be a mix of all the former clans, and that they should all keep an eye on the new packs to make sure they learned to work together.

You would be lying if you said it was a smooth transition, there have been many fights and more than a few serious injuries, though thankfully as of yet your lieutenants have broken it turned fatal.

Slaagyr has been surprisingly quiet, though as Ku'zag told you, dragons plan very slowly, and honestly, you're starting to suspect that Slaagyr might be a bit of a coward, making him slower still to make bold moves.

The weather has turned hotter lately, and you awaken sticky from sweat, not to mention the aftermath of last night's exertions. K'zala is curled up by your side, now sporting a noticeable bump, and it seems that both Sho'ka and Aleida are following suit, having just started to show around a week ago.

Rising slowly, you stretch, looking around. You still aren't really used to this whole stone building thing, and you know that some of the clan have taken to sleeping around the huts (or on top of them) rather than in them. Ashuris has been hard at work near non-stop, and it's made her a little irritable, and you had to break up a potentially unpleasant situation when Za'ria made an offhand comment about how 'giantish' the architecture looked.

“Ur, you awake?” a voice calls from outside.

You give an affirmative grunt, sitting up and pulling on your clothes and armour, stepping outside to meet Zo'rok, your lieutenant leaning against the outside wall of the structure watching an argument between a couple of members of one of your new packs.

“So I've got bad news and I've got worse news, want to talk inside?”

You gesture for Zo'rok to follow, stepping back inside your hut. You sit down on a high backed stone chair Ashuris shaped inside your tent, which you have slung some furs over, Zo'rok taking a seat on one of the smaller ones nearby.

Most of your harem are still asleep, worn out from last night. You see Inka stir, shifting a little where she lies half-slumped over her bound sister, Inka is still wearing her recent perpetual pout even in her sleep. You can only hope that she starts to show signs of a litter of her own soon so she'll stop moping.

They'll for now, and we'll be moving on soon enough, And let's see Slaagyr try to set our camp on fire a second time.

Still, though, yurts. We should get some yurts. We'd need more reliable access to wood to produce the collapsible lattice and the beams for a large number of them, but we have everything else we need, and as we're now living in huts and keeping prisoners in cells, we've freed up a lot of the timber we were previously using, which I imagine was mostly in the form of poles anyway.
>>
>>39671710
There's nothing wrong with "hoarding the good shit" when we're the ones who get it.
It's expected of the chief/warlord to take the very best of the best slaves, and dragons qualify for that.

As for the tents, their chief virtue is that they're portable, and on a hunting party I'd take a tent over a yurt every time. But for a semi-permanent camp, yurts are way more comfortable in a broader range of climates, and you can make them big without sacrificing ease of takedown and transport. Kind of like a primitive bullet-trailer-- more mobile proto-house than camping out.

The huts we have now are stone, yes. I think it even just grows out of the ground, since our greased magicked them up. That's why I want portable structures that are NOT made of stone, but which, while portable, still provide many of the benefits of a permanent house.

“Worse news,” you grunt, leaning back I your seat.

“Spoke to Ku'zag, him and the other spellcasters finished checking out the clan for magic, so he reckons he's got a pretty good idea who's been spying on us for Slaagyr now.”

“Who?”

Zo'rok frowns, drumming his fingers on his jaw.

“Fourty three orcs showed signs of Slaagyr's magic, all former Rockbrutes and Skyhunters. Including Koz'rak.”

You growl, your hand clenching into a fist.

“Koz'rak has been working for Slaagyr?”

Zo'rok puts his hands up, shaking his head.

“Relax, Ku'zag doesn't think any of them even know they're spying. You'd have to hear the finer details from him, but he said it's more like Slaagyr being able to look through their eyes, he reckons the dragon probably set it up in preparation for his plan to take control of both clans.

Problem is, none of our spellcasters reckon they can actually break the magic, at least not without causing some serious sensory damage, that fucking lizard wove it into them pretty hard. We leave it there though, and Slaagyr's going to know everything we do or say around any of the orcs he can tap into.”

“Nothing's ever simple, huh, Zo,” you sigh.

Your friend shrugs, giving a lopsided grin.

“Something's got to balance out those chieftain perks,” he chuckles, gesturing to your sleeping harem.

All i know is that we need to Scout West, Scout South, post some sentries North, and continue to build our forces.

The only targets we can currently take on are to the south so raiding there will probably be a good start. and we might wanna start with the skinchangers and the elder serpent just so that the elves dont send for an army from the south before we wipe them out.

I had an about the infected orcs. We could tattoo every one of them and make sure its visible, so that we can tell which level of clearance to give them, then set them up in a seperate encampment

We'll do Ur'shal's PoV during the Zo'rok mission afterwards.

Yes, cause the solution to our problem is concentration camps and force them to wear identification.
>>

That is a terrible idea. Better idea; kill the dragon.

why bother with the tattoos?

Something we're not quite capable of yet.

That anons idea is kinda shitty though.
>>
>>39673161
better that then killing them. At the very least they should have identifying markers, and sending them raiding south is sort of making an encampment anyway. Thst and full disclosure to them why we're xoing this and the promise of future concessions

>>39673241
If we send them south why would they need the tattoos?
>>
>>39673166
we aren't in a position to kill the dragon and if we don't do something with them even if we planned a raid against them sensitive information would be leaked. And sending them raiding without telling them what's going may rise suspension with them

at least it's not all of the rockbrutes and the skyhunters.

We're Orcs. We're the Chief. They'll do what they're told. Especially since they get to raid more than anyone else. Shit's like a vacation for them.

We should also speak to Ku'zag about getting a message to Koz'rak without Slaggyr hearing it.

They're not humans Anon.

It's not like they questioned our choices of personnel on the multiple month long+ missions we've had before.
>>
>>39673495
Anon, our position isn't set in stone, we have their loyalty now only in so much as things are going okay.I mean fuck, we disposed our chief for being a cunt.

I'm just saying this needs to be handled with extreme care or it could blow up in our faces
>>
>>39673495
So what are we gonna make the 40+ orcs to do?
>>
“You handle it,” you grunt.

“Right, I'll go now, before the trail gets any colder,” Zo'rok grins, pushing off from the chair.

“...and Zo'rok. Just investigate what he's doing, bring him back if it's something untrustworthy, otherwise just watch him, there's too much about this that doesn't make sense.”

“Yeah, no problem Ur. I won't do anything crazy,” Zo'rok grins, turning and striding out of the hut.

You hear a yawn from behind you, Aleida stirring, picking herself up slowly.

She glances around at the sprawled mess of your harem, a hand idly resting on the slight bump in her belly.

“Good morning chieftain,” she smiles, stretching. Aleida was always a well-behaved slave, but since it became apparent that she was carrying your whelps, if anything she seems even more content in her role in your harem.

You grunt in response, sitting and pondering the problems Zo'rok dumped on you so early in the morning. Aleida brings you over some dried meat and water, which you gulp down in short order, enjoying the view of Aleida's pale, naked body, especially the way in which her burgeoning pregnancy has swollen her already impressive breasts.

When you finish your meal, you contemplate your next move.

>Go talk to Ku'zag right away

That's why they camp outside of the jungle. only making occasional forays in. The Skinchangers refused to even step foot outside the jungle.

and the jungle is a big place and the skinchangers dont roam all of it.

They'll also ask for help if they run into any problems. Just tell them to be careful and keep an eye out.
>>
PLEASE DO REMEMBER;

We have to kill things and be orcish to win favor, not just manage the settlement.
>>
>>39674018
We can lead the expedition into the caverns
>>

But its rather unorcy to be assassinated because we didn't get on top of security threats when we had the chance.
>>
You rise from your seat, leaving Aleida to deal with the rest of your harem as they awaken. You head out across the camp, a mess of stone structures, some still-half shaped, and tents stuffed between them. It makes it more than a little frustrating getting around sometimes, but a lot of your clan still aren't comfortable being cooped up inside stone buildings.

Eventually you make it to Ku'zag's tent, the old shaman having complained profusely that he had all of his things just where he wanted them, and moving them inside a stone hut would be too much effort for an orc of his age.

“Ku'zag, you awake?” you ask from outside, hearing a croaky grunt a few moments later.

You step inside, once again assaulted by the familiar smell of strange herbs and other, less identifiable things. Ku'zag sits in his usual spot, mashing up stingworm pulp in a bowl.

“So Zo'rok told you then?” he grunts, as you sit down opposite him.

“He did, he said Ku'zag and around fourty others were being used by Slaagyr to spy on us without them knowing.”

“It's some sort of mixture of a curse and a divination spell, not something I've come across before, but dragons, even young ones, tend to learn all kinds of strange old magic somehow. We could probably dispel it, but countermagic is not my area, nor is it the area of any of your other spellcasters, so it would be clumsy. At best, it leaves them with a ringing in their ears and some blurry vision for a few weeks.”

“and at worse?”

“You have forty-three blind, deaf orcs who will never recover without powerful healing magic,” he grunts.

“So how does this spell work? How much will he know?”

(cont)
>>
>>39674261
“Hard to say, I doubt he's spying all the time, we can gather that much from Koz'rak leading the raid on that tribe and capturing that girl in your harem. Slaagyr didn't react to that at all, which makes me think by the time he found out about it, Koz'rak and his pack were already long gone from the mountains with their loot.”

You frown, nodding.

“So is there some way to improve our odds of taking the spell off them?”

“Not really, short of finding someone who's good with countermagic, or better than the dragon at curses. When Slaagyr dies it should fade away on its own though,” Ku'zag grunts.

Well Ur, what now?

Ku'zag nods, scooping up a handful of dried lichen and grinding it into the mush in the bowl.

“The shapeshifters won't like it, make sure the whelps know not to mess about too much. Also, chieftain, if you want my advice, send some other orcs down too, not rockbrutes or skyhunters.”

“We don't have many warriors to spare as it is,” you grunt, eyeing the foul-smelling mixture.

“True, but your clanmates aren't stupid. If you don't tell them why, and you send nothing but Rockbrutes and Skyhunters down, especially after dividing them up into packs without former clan links, they'll notice. Might start wondering why.”

Can we look through all of our valueable loot this thread? Like dra'kozs chest and the stuff from the settlement we raided?
>>
>>39674671
There's No downside to keeping a nest or two of these colorful toucan harpies on their own as allies. We can even speak of any rivals they have and enslave them instead. Boom, respect gained by our new allies. They could even use the elves better than we could since Harpy gestation is Set as a harpy instead of an Elf Harpy. Elf Orcs take a very long time to birth because elves has a long pregnancy, Harpys dont.

“I'll send some more orcs down with them, make it a proper raiding force, keep them from getting suspicious,” you grunt.

Ku'zag nods, the corner of his wrinkled mouth curling up into something resembling a smile.

“Tired of politics yet, Ur'shal?”

“I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the days when I could just solve all my problems by burying an axe in them,” you grin.

“You ignore the politics and rely on your axe to solve all your problems, sooner or later someone better with their words stabs you in the back. You let your axe gather dust, turn into someone who's nothing but talk, then... well, at least it won't be in the back.”

You nod, picking yourself up.

“Good to know there's still some wisdom rattling around in that old head of yours, Ku'zag,” you snort.

“You're a strong warrior, Ur, and smart. You have good lieutenants too, they respect you, and even if they all have their flaws, they're learning. It's not going to be easy, but you have the core of something glorious here. Just don't fuck it up, chieftain. At least not in my lifetime.” Ku'zag grunts, poking a bony finger into the bowl, tasting the foul mixture.

“No matter how badly I fuck up I doubt I could ruin it that quickly,” you grin, earning a stare from the ancient shaman.

“Last time I give you any good advice, you damned whelp, now get out of here, I have things to do.”

You nod to Kuzag, turning and ducking under the tentflap as you step outside.

Thanks for the thread QM.
>>
>>39675581
What is Harpy culture?
>>
>>39675676
Each harpy tribe is an extended family under the control of the tribe's matriarch. While harpies do seem to be fairly intelligent, most likely every bit as intelligent as an orc, their culture is mainly based around music and hunting, they don't build anything apart from their nests, and any items they have on them are taken from those they rob, rape or kill.

They have never advanced beyond a primitive tribal state because they see no purpose in doing so.
>>
Warlord you're glorious and I love everything you do. Keep it up, also consider publishing some modules or something.

Tempting, might well do so someday, right now I have more than enough projects on the table though.

>>39675900
Harpies are a reasonably magical race, they aren't as talented as elves or sluagh, but they take to it easier than a lot of races do.
>>
>>39675942
