However, up in the air was a different story. Janice, Tarin, Ghost, Nungesser, and Jetstream battle with a mix of Russian and Chinese witches. You can only tell by the engine flares of the unstealthy Russian and Chinese strikers, as well as the numerous tracers crisscrossing the sky as both sides try to find their target. However, you manage to catch some visual action. Two Russian witches dive down in an attempt to ambush Euclid, but are ambushed themselves when Nungesser comes screaming in. She rams one of the witches in a punishing shield slam, sending her flying out of position and crashing into the water with a loud SPLASH. Nungesser then draws her FAMAS rifle, and in one smooth motions, mag dumps into the second witch, forcing her to break off her attack run.

Out of the darkness, Jetstream pounces, her katana glinting in the moonligh. She then pulls away and flies back up to the main dogfight as quickly as she had appeared, leaving two halves of a witch tumbling to the ocean below.

"Sir." Rex taps you on the shoulder and points. You look to see Red and Misono still battling their adversaries on the forward observation deck. The big Russian witch was throwing deck chairs and anything that wasn't bolted down at Red to keep her at a distance, with Red effortlessly slicing the projectiles apart, but being unable to advance. Meanwhile, Misono and her opponent were just a flurry to slashes and stabs and sparks. Misono seemed to be holding her own, but it was clear she wasn't used to fighting a dual wielding opponent, as the Chinese witch managed to get in a few opportunistic hits with her second blade Misono wasn't quite able to dodge or parry.

"Sir, I reckon we can put down enough suppressing fire on those witches long enough for us to evac on the Ghost Hawk." Rex suggests.

While that was certainly true, you still didn't really want to retreat with a pair of witches at your back...

You turn to watch the battle again. There were still about 3 gunships operational, not to mention who knows how many witches higher up in the air. You could certainly call them in to assist, but then there would be nobody to suppress the gunships.

In the darkness, you can just barely make out the faded silhouette of the Comanche phase into view, backlit by the fires and tracers in the background.

"Red, Misono, NOW!" You bark.

Immediately, the two witches move to break off. Misono aims a powerful kick to her opponent's chest, sending her sliding back on the deck and hitting against the guard rail. Red meanwhile kicks a table toward the Russian witch. The large Russian easily smashes the flimsy wood table with her armored gauntlets, but serves its purpose of distracting her for a few critical seconds.

"NOW!" You bellow as you and Rex emerge from your vantage point, unloading your carbines at the witches. At the same time, the Comanche's autocannon barks, further illuminating the stealth helo in bright flashes.

The crossfire pins the two enemy witches on the deck, spitting up dust and wood splinters. From the glow inside the dust cloud, you can tell that their shields absorbed most of the impact, but you weren't looking to take them out, anyways.

Red and Misono link up with you, both out of breath, but alive and relatively unhurt.

"You two okay?" You ask.

"Yeah." Red nods. "Still think we could've taken them."

"I do not know, Red-sempai, they were very formidable opponents." Misono says.

"Well, I'm sure you'll be able to meet them again." You grunt. "Bullseye, we're going to need extraction! Can you meet us at the pool?"

"You got it, boss." Bullseye affirms. "On approach now."

"Let's go go go!" You wave your small squad forward as Ugly continues to pound the foredeck with cannon fire.

However, all of a sudden, explosions ripple across the side of the cruiser liner, forcing you all to dive for cover. You risk raising your head to see one of the gunboats moving in dangerously closing, sweeping the deck with its guns.

She draws an arrow from her quiver and launches it, creating a bright flash of blue light as it shoots down like a lightning bolt. You see the arrow fly straight through the bridge windows, causing the entire structure to explode outward. The guns then momentarily fall silent as the crew panics.

"Thanks for assist, Euclid." You say as you get back up to your feet.

"No problem capt-"

However, her words are cut off by a pained scream. You instinctively look up to see a Russian witch tangling with Euclid in the air, haven gotten the jump on her before your other witches could notice. You freeze in horror when Euclid manages to break free from the Russian witch's grasp, but she tumbles into water with a dull splash. You're not sure if she's unconscious, or worse. You already see Rex shucking off his extra gear in preparation to dive.

You just silently nod in acknowledgement to Rex. He nods back and leaps off the edge of the cruise liner, entering the water in a perfect dive that would make any Olympic diver a bit jealous. However, you don't have time to watch and keep dashing to the extraction point.

"You think they're gonna be okay?" Red asks.

"Rex is a PJ. We're trained for this." You say reassuringly. "Besides, at least this isn't the arctic. He's not freezing to death anytime soon."

"I hope so." Red frowns.

"Don't worry, Red-sempai. Japanese witches do not go down so easily!" Misono tries to assure her.

As you reach the rear deck, you can see the Ghost Hawk waiting for you, hovering just a few feet above the deck, which was now starting to list heavily. It takes some really careful flying on Bullseye's part to keep the helo as close to the deck as possible in these conditions.

"Where's Rex?" Hoskins asks when you hop inside.

"Had to take a swim." You say.

"Want to go pick him up?" Bullseye asks. "We still got fuel."

You glance at water and note all of the tracers and fires now illuminating the area. It was going to be risky putting the Ghost Hawk in there, since it wouldn't be able to rely on the cover of night.

Through your nightvision, you can see the faint silhouette of the Comanche gain altitude as well as the flares of rocket engines as it begins firing off sidewinders at a rapid pace.

"Haha, look at those bitches run!" Ugly whoops.

Indeed, you look up to see the engine flares of the enemy witches breaking off and heading west back to shore. Below, the gunboats that aren't completely knocked out attempt to follow, slowly limping their way home. Meanwhile, you see the blinking light of Rex's emergency beacon right below. Hoskins lowers the winch and pulls both Rex and Euclid back up into the Ghost Hawk.

"Took you guys long enough." Rex grunts as he hands off Euclid to you and Red. Red immediately sets her down, pulls the knife out of her ribs, and begins applying healing energy. Your witches reform on the Ghost Hawk as you leave the burning gunboats and rapidly sinking cruise ship behind.

"Ah, it feels nice to wade in combat once again!" Jetstream says happily.

"I know, things were getting really boring lately!" Nungesser says in agreement.

"I'm just glad we got out of that unscathed." Janice sighs. "Well, mostly unscathed."

"Hey, I'm not complaining." You grin. "Come on, Bullseye, let's go home."

"I hear you there." Bullseye nods.
