You drop to your knees. There is absolutely nothing you can do to this Hollow.

You don't have the will to fight anymore. You don't have the will to stand and protect neither Naoko nor Kimiko. It is hopeless. It will only delay the inevitable for a few more miserable moments, during which this Hollow will continue to spout poison. There is simply no point in that.

You can see Kimiko standing further down the road. While you charged at the Hollow, she kept still. She looks composed, just like a Shinigami should. But it's clear that she understands it also - there is no chance of victory remaining in this battle. The girl glances your way, but immediately turns away; perhaps looking at you, the quivering mess that you currently are, was hurting her resolve to stay and fight until the very end. Her composure is now faux, but it is still present - she's determined to at least not give the Hollow any satisfaction by showing her fear.

Once again, Kimiko proves that she is not the frail and weak Aiko. At the sight of her, the monster chuckles.

"I'll be saving the best for last. I'll start with the genocider first!" He derides Naoko with a cackle and turns to her. He isn't at all oblivious to what she's going through; he's simply taking a sick pleasure out of mocking her.

Naoko didn't know. She thought that other people were in danger. She did those awful things because she thought that it would keep everyone else safe. She suffered for the lives of complete strangers. Her goals were more noble than your own, and she went far beyond what you'd ever do for the safety of others.

Being responsible for just one death made you feel ill. You can only imagine how awful it must be for her. To be proven wrong about everything she believed in. To be ridiculed for actions performed in an unwilling ignorance, actions she will already never forgive herself for. To feel infinite guilt over every single one of the many lives she has taken away.

Her life must be hell.

Just that off-handed comment makes you livid. You grip your sword so tightly that your knuckles turn white.

But the anger is brief. Common sense overwhelms it immediately. The weapon falls from your hurting, tired hands.

You start crying. You wail without the smallest speck of shame.

You can hear the Hollow's sick laughter grow louder. He's saying something, but you can't hear it anymore. You don't want to hear it anymore. The tears blur out your vision, but the monster's distinct silhouette keeps his movements clear. One of its black limbs reaches out for Naoko.

You wanted to cry for so long. You held in the worst kind of pain for the sake of complete strangers. Strangers that are nowhere to be seen right now, strangers that will never thank you for what you did for them, strangers that will never help you. You disregarded yourself completely for their sake, and helped them without seeking reward or gratitude, just like heroes always do.

But you're not a hero.

You thought that if you saved enough people, nobody would be able to blame you for what you did. Not even yourself. And yet it's because of that selfishness that the plan was bound to fail.

Your desires mean nothing, or so you wanted to pretend

The pretense was meaningless. You are not a hero, but there is nothing wrong with being a human being.

Holding yourself back meant that you were beyond help

...The voice wails along with you. While your cry is that of despair, it screams of its own freedom, as if emerging from the bottom of the sea after a year without air, and now greedily gasping for it and taking the greatest pleasure out of just running it through the lungs.

And that is why now, I feel better than ever

For once, you are not holding anything back. For once, you have allowed yourself to cut loose.

And then the grief drowns as you partake in that very same intoxicating freedom.

A sharp whistle cuts through the air. It is then substituted by the crack of penetrated flesh and broken bone. There is a sword lodged in the creature's arm. It raises it, examining it curiously.

"How feisty. A cornered dog really is at its most dangerous." With a squelch, The Hollow pulls the blade out. He turns at you, cocking its uninjured arm back; the weapon seems tiny in his hands. "If you aimed for the head, maybe you'd have gotten me! Too bad you can't stop crying even to throw this damn thing properly! You can have this back-..."

It is then that he notices something - your blue-hilted sword still lies by your side.

As if in confusion, he halts. With a low, piercing hum, the tall body suddenly blurs out of the way. The asphalt on which it stood is pierced by half a dozen swords.

Without breaking its pace, the Hollow moves to your side, drawing a black arc with its large fist. The attack bears both the strength and intent to crush your head; for the first time, it's not holding anything back. For the very first time, its motions are coated with a semblance of fear and desperation, as if it is fighting a battle it can get hurt in, and a fight it can lose. The predator has realized that it can no longer toy with its prey.

But the realization comes too late. Your sword now has both the power and speed needed to stop the blow. The sharp edge collides with black flesh. It bites between the fingers and draws blood.

You push yourself back. Your body feels light; you cover a lot of distance with just that trivial movement. Just moments ago, it felt like your bones were broken and your body was crushed by the weight of exhaustion.

But the bruises have healed. Confidence calms your body like ice placed on your flaming nerves. It feels like if you were to exhale, your cool breath alone would cause the temperature to drop.

This confidence creates a pleasant high. There is both calm and excitement. Fear and bravery. Tranquility and exhilaration. There is never too much of either, but there is too much of both. You feel fantastic.

Several steps ahead, the Hollow warily waits, unsure of what to expect. For the first time in this encounter, the initiative is in your hands, and it wasn't given to you out of pity or for the sake of twisted entertainment. You surprised him and took it away with your own strength.

You'll let that thing have what it deserves. But for now, you feel like there is something that needs to be said.

"Kimiko, take Naoko and leave." You let the blunt of the blade rest on your shoulder. Just like any other Zanpakuto you've held, it feels weightless. You glance past the Hollow and towards Kimiko.

Your words snap her out of a daze. She's been staring at the swords half-buried in the road.

"I... Clarissa, these are..." She mumbles something, but you interrupt her.

"Kimiko. I'm telling you to get going."

Now isn't the time for this. Their safety takes priority. Kimiko looks at you in another stupefied, wide-eyed stupor, but then eagerly nods her head several times.

The Hollow erupts with laughter.

"Did I permit you to leave? If I wanted to kill you, who do you think would stop me? Her? HER?!" He grates your ears with even more laughter. "You've gotten stronger, but I'm still far beyond you! I've been killing Shinigami for over thirty years! You think some crappy amateur is going to bring me down?"

Kimiko makes a dash for Naoko. Noticing this, the Hollow lets off an awful scream. "I TOLD YOU TO STAND STILL!"

He turns, cocking one of its long arms back. You rush in like a bullet, brandishing the sword in your hands to cut it through the head. Your movements were noticed, and he prevents a lethal strike by letting your sword fall on one of its arms. Its free limb lashes out like a whip, sending your body into a whistling flight. You collide with a building, and crack the gray bricks with your back.

But you are fine. In your current state, you can take at least one more before you'd be at any kind of disadvantage. This is one of Shinigami's many powers - the ability to endure far more damage than a human body could ever condition itself for.

The Hollow has no comment to make as you effortlessly stand up. He doesn't dare to turn his back on you anymore, and lets Kimiko help your other friend back up to her feet. They then take their leave as quickly as they can, which is still quite slow - Naoko has to be nearly hauled on Aiko's frail shoulders.

(1/2)
>>
>>39546250
You were close. Perhaps if it lacked those 30 years of experience, your dash would have been the end. And the Hollow knows this. You may not yet be equals in raw power, but you are still a threat that he can't afford to neglect. The injuries in its arms clearly show that it cannot disregard your sword.

"I've never heard of a Shinigami with three swords, let alone nine," He says, caressing one of his injured arms, as if the grievous wounds are merely an inconvenience. "It seems that you are just as much of an abomination in death as you are in life."

His ridicule should be growing stale, but it still gets you. What burns your heart, however, isn't grief and guilt - it's fury. A rage that is just like lava - its heat is enough to melt rock, and yet it flows calmly and slowly much like a river. Rather than hating this feeling, you find yourself relishing in the delight it provides. It's enjoyable because you know that the anger isn't meaningless, and that you can finally do something about it. It is a twisted, bizarre pleasure.

It's the freedom to feel as you like.

"Was it you who killed Aiko?" You're certain that the culprit won't change, but just being able to ask that question gives you hope.

Once again, it cackles. "Are you trying to put the blame on me? Why, that's so much like you to do. But I had no hand in it. You did it all yourself, you murderous bitch! I only had my dog finish the job!"

"Your... dog?"

"That girl was as useless to me as food that fell on the floor. I wouldn't put something so filthy into my mouth, but the dog didn't mind."

The way he's talking about her is making you mad. It's like he honestly believes that he isn't going to die. Like he doesn't realize that he exists on borrowed time. The only reason you're not finishing this is because he might be able to amuse you with answers to your questions.

(2/3)
>>
>>39546278
And that's funny. It's funny enough to make you laugh. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that you've never laughed this hard before. You laugh at his stupid misunderstanding of the situation, you laugh at his insults which now seem so petty, you laugh at how hard he's trying to distract you with his words.

Your euphoric, high-pitched laughter echoes through the empty streets. Perhaps the Hollow is too dumbfounded to do anything while you're caught up in your sudden fit.

What a delightful feeling this is. Complete, unquestionable freedom from all bounds.

Your laughter eventually fades. A wary silence hangs in the air again. It seems that without you dashing at him, the Hollow isn't at all confident in his abilities. Now that your friends aren't in danger, you might as well take your time. Toy with him just like he toyed with you. Try and make him at least half as miserable as he made you.

There are still some things you want to ask. His miserable existance can still provide you with a few answers. This might be the last chance. You wonder whose patience for this will run out first: his, or yours.

"You've been watching me for a while, haven't you? Why wait for so long before killing me? Aren't you Hollows always hungry for souls?" You ask him, casually resting your sword on a shoulder again.

The Hollow wheezes. The noise slowly turns into an uncertain, wary chuckle.

"After thirty years, just eating has grown stale. I've never thought about it until recently, but being Hollow gives me far more possibilities than back when I was human."

"Possibilities? What are you talking about?" You feel your mood instantly sour with disgust, but curiosity wins out and stays your hand.

"With my death came quickness and might. I am invincible to normal people. I am invisible even to the gods of death themselves," Its voice grows louder with every word. The eagerness with which the Hollow speaks makes you think of a madman sharing his derangements. "Just surviving has grown boring! It's gotten too easy! And even when I give the Shinigami a chance, they can still never threaten me! Not even in direct combat! Every single one of them dies! They don't even know that I exist! To them, I am no one!"

You quietly let him continue. The insane relish with which he's screaming his twisted thoughts must mean that he's kept them bottled up for a while. It shrieks in laughter again, as if proud of its self-proclaimed title of 'no one'.

"I can't enjoy young women in the same way as when I was alive, but I can still cause them misery! Their souls taste stale and no longer fill me, but the joy I feel when I see them begging me for mercy makes me forget all about that annoying hunger!" Its fingers hook themselves on the hole in its chest.

(1/3)
>>
>>39547740
"Can you even imagine the face of a young girl when she realizes that the accident in which she lost all of her limbs wasn't just a coincidence? When a cheery pop idol has her on-the-rise career abruptly stopped, and she understands that she neglected her loved ones for nothing? When a grade-schooler finally finds out why everyone she's ever cared about turned away from her in disgust and fear, and why everyone around her kept dying? CAN YOU IMAGINE FACING YOUR WORST TORMENTOR THIRTY YEARS AFTER HIS SUPPOSED DEATH? CAN YOU IMAGINE THE LOOK ON HER STUPID FACE WHEN SHE REALIZED THAT I WAS NOT BURNING IN HELL FOR MY SINS?"

His nails bite into the gap in his body. If he still had his vocal cords, the deafening volume with which he continued his vile screaming would have turned them into mush. The raving lunatic scratches at his own lack of a heart as if overcome by an unbearable itch. He rends his own flesh into a bloody mess.

"They say that Hollows lack a heart, but I'm enjoying my life more than ever! You asked me why I didn't just kill you? It's because letting you live and making you miserable is way more fun! And this time, I didn't have to do a single thing! You just killed your own loved one out of the blue, and looked so terribly sad afterwards! And then it just kept growing out of control, and I simply couldn't do anything but continue watching the train wreck that was your life!"

The nails grind across its body, leaving deep scratches across the black sides. Red blood trails and drips down from his fingers.

Its cackle is giving you a headache. You wanted to stop listening to him, and yet felt overcome by a twisted curiosity. You regret letting him speak, and you regret even asking. If he wanted to make you unnerved, he's certainly accomplished that. And the worst thing is, you feel like every word he's said was genuine, and not just an act to sicken you.

(2/3)
>>
>>39547775
The laughter fades.

"But you've grown just too damn used to the situation. You've gotten too damn happy with your life. That's why I decided to end it now. And besides, unlike the rest of the cardboard I chew through on a daily basis, you and those other two girls smell too damn good."

Your struggling against the urge to throw up must be the only thing that kept you from screaming and burying your sword in its brain. You are glad for this feeling of unwilling calm - after all, ending him too quickly would be a waste.

...

>"No, no. I'm better than you - if you beg for forgiveness, I'll kill you quickly. Otherwise, I'll torture the apology out of you."

Your mouth opens, but you don't say anything. Just can't think of anything. You let out a brief chuckle as you watch the Hollow - he's gone silent, as if eagerly anticipating your reaction with a stilled breath.

You don't want to give him the satisfaction of a response, so you don't say anything. Finding yourself absurdly amused at the cold-hearted fury you are feeling, you dismissively wave a hand at him.

The air ripples and shrieks as swords cut through it and soar forwards like enormous bullets. Once again, a low hum accompanies the Hollow's blurring movements, and it disappears from your sight entirely. This is faster than he's been before, and it feels somewhat different. Did desperation teach him a new skill?

You jump aside, hearing the sound repeat by your shoulder. You can't dodge the incoming fist, but it does give you enough time to swing your sword against the strike. And now, finally, the sword cuts through his hand, severing a half of it. With a step forward, another punch flies. You will a sword into your free hand, but the strike possesses a path too deceptive to properly defend against even with the reflexes for it. The arm simply bends and twists without a regard for the laws of anatomy; there are no bones or joints to speak of.

It strikes you in the ear, and the impact painfully tilts your neck. But that's it. The pain is inconvenient, but it would take a while to knock you out like this.

Two swords in hand, you slash at his flesh. The weapons now rend muscle and bone as easily as they should, and yet the Hollow proves too quick to kill it right there and then.

You let him leap back. You're still feeling wary and keeping on the lookout for any other tricks he might have, so you're taking some time to make sure that it's safe.

You're holding back again.

A grin creeps across your face. It's true - you're just fighting the wish to toy around with him.

After all, he's harmless and he deserves it.

(1/2)
>>
>>39549431
"Why... is your reiatsu growing?" The Hollow asks, stepping back.

This strength is getting more and more pleasant to use. As if every emotion, pleasant and otherwise, has been amplified tenfold - and yet there is this constant sense of peace, the confidence in being able to fulfill every single whim and desire.

Your own smirk is growing deranged, but you just can't help it. This power is a pleasure you don't want to ever stop experiencing.

With the flick of a finger, you can will that abomination out of existence. And you do - a swarm of swords flies through the air at your command, homing in on the self-proclaimed no one. The weapons have gotten both faster and stronger - their collision with the ground pummels it to pieces, lifting up clouds of dust and the deadly shrapnel of stone debris. A chunk of the road has been turned into a bladed crater.

Well, it's not that you're toying around with him - you're just not aiming for the head. When the barrage ends, you wonder if there's anything left but the head you weren't aiming for.

As the cloud dissolves, all that remains are the gory, nigh powdered bits of black limbs. The swords didn't even lodge themselves into the Hollow - they must have gone straight through.

But this isn't right. If he was struck down, then all of this flesh should have been purified and turned to nothing. That means he's still alive. That means he's escaped.

Your eyes spot a trail of blood leading away from the demolished asphalt. With just a single step, you cover enough distance to reach to the very end of the short path that spans about a city block in length. Half of the Hollow's thin body is missing; it is limping away on only one leg, and laughably quickly at that. The noise that comes out of its mouth when it realizes that you are right next to it is hilarious. A miserable, surprised yelp.

(2/3)
>>
>>39549486
What was the point of running? Was it trying to count on its lack of presence in order to hide? Is it getting so desperate that it didn't even notice how clearly it was painting the road for you?

Just by standing within an arm's reach to it, your raw power alone paralyzed its movements. You are glad you had Kimiko and Naoko leave - you don't know if they could take being so close to you without suffering.

You hit it with the back of your hand and guffaw when you see just how far and how quickly it flies. It collides with a building about a dozen meters away, and its flight doesn't even stop there; no, it continues further through, all the way to the other side. It writhes on the ground in agony, still trying to crawl away to some kind of safety which it stubbornly believes is out there somewhere.

Having long abandoned your previous pair of weapons, you raise your hand. When you lower it, you'll remove all traces of the Hollow. One more time, you will grow even stronger. And with that might will come the fulfillment of your desire, and the monster will die.

Don't hesitate now. Don't hold anything back. Cut loose, just like you've wanted to.

Erase him with all your might
>>
>>39549560
Second
>>
>>39549542
>Convert power into speed
>FINISH HIM before he knows what happened.

"You're already dead"

Don't erase him. He needs to go to hell for his sins.
>>
>>39549542
On the one hand, using our full power is probably excessive and might be bad for us mentally, also we won't get to see him go to hell. On the other, if we hold back, he might be slippery enough to escape or summon Clay Bone or something.
>>
>>39549542
>You don't need to use excessive force.
Just decapitate him. Or bisect him. Those will do.
I want to see him get dragged off.
>>
...somehow the erase option seems dangerous. But I dunno why.
>>
>>39549597
>>39549568
So do you guys just hold those cringe worthy lines close to your chest waiting for a time to loose them?
>>
>>39549542
>>You don't need to use excessive force.

Kill him and be done with it.

He should have popped a gate and left.
>>
>>39549620
no i was trying to justify it because i didnt want to use full power
>>
>>39549613
Violating spiritual balance? But like I said, this dude might be able to run if we don't give it all we got.
>>
>>39549620
Yes actually. I have a list. They are good for fishing for replies.
>>
>>39549542
>You don't need to use excessive force.
Do none of you want to see him go to hell?! I will be more satisfying.
>>
>>39549643
>this dude might be able to run if we don't give it all we got.
Oh it's a guarantee he will if we don't use everything we got, This IS a bleach quest afterall
>>
>>39549542
>Erase him with all your might.
Becuase no matter how bad it might be for us mentally, we need to make sure his 30 year reign of terror ends tonight.
>>
>>39549542
>Erase him with all your might.
No chances, He NEEDS to die
>>
>>39549643
True, and... he's pretty dangerous just to us alone if he stays alive. Add to that the other people he fucks with and Clarissa going bonkers is probably worth the risk.
>>
>>39549653
I don't want him to get away. I've got a feeling that holding back is going to lead to AND DEN IT SNEAKS OFF AND ATE YOUR FRIENDS!

Not willing to take the risk.

And for some reason people have the belief that non-existence is less terrifying than hell.
>>
>>39549663
Ah but you see, dear anon, you missed the coloration of the superpowered evil side. Another bleach staple, as you can gather. There is also the strength of character development in doing it quickly instead of unnecessarily.
>>
>>39549542
>Erase him with all your might.
There's no such thing as overkill: only a sufficient amount of kill.
>>
>>39549701
0/10 if we don't see him go to hell. And I'll blame you guys, just so you know.
>>
I wonder what Kimiko and Naoko will think about all this after the fact.
>>
>>39549707
I think we'll be moving at about the same speed regardless, and hesistation hasn't done us much favors thus far.
>>
>>39549762
Like I don't know, I think the one thing both sides can agree on is making sure this guy dies as fast as possible, no more toying with him.

It's just that I'm not sure which option is the "cut the bullshit" one.
>>
>>39549542
Voting over, writing!
>>
>>39549809
Oh, we get more updates still? Truly a great night.
>>
>>39549792
Like in >>39549431 it was telling us to stop holding back and go for the kill.
>>
>>39549701
It's only more terrifying before the fact, but he doesn't know he may stop existing. Afterwards he wouldn't care because he wouldn't exist. When the hell gate appears though, he'll know what's coming.
Plus he just gloated about not being in hell, so it would be some nice karma right there. Simply wiping him out of existence would feel like he got off light in a way.
>>
>>39549809
Just so we're clear, I'm pretty sure we voted for a middle ground in intent. Where we just don't toy around and make sure he's dead fast and the amount of force doesn't matter.
>>
>>39549904
I think technically Erase won, and there were people voting for that in the maniacal laughter sense, just as there were people voting to not use excessive force just so they could see the satisfaction in this guy going to hell. Which I think is metagaming.

Let's just leave it to the QM to sort this out.
>>
>>39549978
I trust in our QM to not make us look like a monster erasing a soul from existence while we laugh like someone who just won the lottery. I mean after all, we are justified, we're the good guy, how could this possibly go wrong?
>>
>>39550137
Eh, I'd be hard pressed to think of something we could do to this guy that he wouldn't have coming. And laughter is healthy now and again.
>>
>>39550137
>>39550137
But I want to look like that. Also we're not a good guy.
>>
>>39550137
Well you lost the vote, Sorry except not really
Now quite whining about it
>>
>>39550137
You poor naive soul.

>>39550168
>>39550169
And you two need to ease up. This leads to the path of edge, as it is based on bleach after all.
>>
>>39550216
I don't see how it's much edgier than Kenpachi.
>>
>>39550196
Way to be a dick to that guy, Anon. Especially since he wasn't whining and you don't know what his vote was exactly.
You're just classy.
>>
>>39550241
Welcome to /tg/
>>
>>39550230
Ken-chan lived his whole life like this. Fighting is when he feels alive the most and he reacts appropriately. I'm pretty sure Clarissa is being influenced by an evil side. Maybe an inner hollow?
>>
>>39550196
Man, why you got to be Darude? Don't you know I Sandstorm too?
>>
>>39550368
Okay just for that i'll stop being a dick for now, Made me fucking kek

I wouldn't jump to evil yet. Aggressive? yes. Sadistic? possibly but it seems like it was telling us not to play with our food. Evil? Not until it tells us to hurt our friends or innocent people.

>>39549582
Your golden hair flows in the gentle breeze of your own excessive power. The spiritual pressure you are unwillingly exuding soon becomes too much for the Hollow to bear. It ceases even its meaningless writhing. Before it is crushed by that might, you lower your raised hand.

The swords fly like missiles, rivaling them in not only speed, but in destructive potential as well. You make sure to aim for the head this time. The concrete underneath it is immediately crushed and turned to rubble. As the dust fades, you see its remains; the weapons remain where they have pierced the Hollow, and the black flesh reforms under their influence. The Hollow groans and twitches in agony even as it is being restored.

It's a disappointing sight after all of that destruction, but it is something that was inevitable. After all, every single sword you've fired off so far was a Zanpakuto. Those soul cutting swords don't destroy - they purify. You briefly contemplate tearing it to pieces with your bare hands before the spirit goes off to Soul Society. You decide against it. You're not as vile as him.

You turn away, intending to go off on your way.

And yet a sudden tremor stops you. A tremor you've easily felt without even standing on the ground.

The Hollow shrieks in torment that even you couldn't cause it. The essence that pours out from its many wounds fails to purify the creature of sin.

A massive gate emerges from beneath the earth. Its iron still steams from the awful temperatures it's been exposed to. The essence empowers the two skeletal guardians to open the doors, and they silently carry out their purpose. The chains meant to keep the entrance closed quickly give away and shatter. The doors creak and slowly slide apart.

This is the entrance to Hell. An infinite red darkness lit ablaze by hateful flames. The gates are held together by a pair of thick chains stretching across the inferno, not allowed to open entirely. You don't want to even think about what would happen if that steel snapped.

The hand of a demon reaches out to impale the sinner on a blade. The Hollow's struggles are met with laughter. He is pulled into the darkness, now doomed to be the demon's toy until the end of time.

Desperate screams still echoing out into the real world, the gates slide to a close. Slowly, countless cracks spread across their surface, and then they shatter into nothing.

...

You don't understand. Didn't Kimiko say that the Zanpakuto washes away sins? And if that's not the case, then...

...Will your fate be the same as his?

If you have any feedback or questions, please shoot them my way!

Thanks for reading!

Haha! Sucks to be you! Time you made up for lost time, scum.
>>
>>39551003
Looks like we'll be asking Kimiko for more exposition. Neat.
>>
>>39551003
Ya know, I always wondered what happens to the souls a hollow eats, do they just become reiatsu?
Or are they still kinda there but not really?

And what happens if a hollow gets dragged to hell? Do those souls go with him?

Damn it Kubo!
>>
>>39551035
Thanks a ton for running!
>>
>>39551142
>Ya know, I always wondered what happens to the souls a hollow eats, do they just become reiatsu?
I'm assuming it just becomes reiatsu. This was never really elaborated on that much, so I went with that.
>>
>>39551276
>reiatsu
Or is it reiryoku? I always confuse the two!
>>
>>39551302
QM pls.
Thanks for writing anyway.
