You can still remember the screams and bloody gurgles of the first man you ever killed. His eyes darting in all directions, his curses at you incomprehensible through the blood welling in his mouth. You continue to turn the blade deeper through his neck and jugular vein.

You escape the bandit fortress with both vigor and fear until you make it back to the capital city. To your surprise no one believes you are the true princess having been told the true princess was already dead when they found her captors. A misheard rumor surely you thought, but when you finally managed to convince enough people to let you in, there sat your younger half brother sitting upon the thrown. You're informed that they had "passed" away shortly after your kidnapping. By all rights of the country that would make you the next Queen, you were the first in line, but the second, your half brother had taken it in your absence, likely of his own arrangement. He declares you an imposter of the royal princess, a crime punishable by exile. You are given a horse and told to never come to your homeland again. You manage to steal away your royal dagger and rapier before being escorted out of the castle that was your birthright.

With no where to go you find the only ones who believe you to be the true princess. Angered that your return meant their ransoming of you was a fool's errand and a set up, fearful of what you did to their leader, empathetic of your new lot in life, and swooned by your beauty and charisma, it was no short wonder they unanimously took you in, the second in command proposing you to take the role of their leader. You were trained in both leadership and tactics as a noble after all. Surprised by the offer you accept for no other reason then you have nothing to lose.

You are Princess Luroma of Steelgate, and Bandit Queen.

>Forge your own Kingdom

If you can't have your kingdom, you will simply forge your own like your forefathers before had done!

Fortunate then that your bandit fort lies in the forest outside the Steelgate Kingdom's Borders. Indeed, the entire forest was yet unclaimed by any nation, for two reasons. The first being a lack of interest due to how wild and treacherous the forest was due both to the untamed wilderness, and the abundance of thieves and killer...like yourself, who took refuge there. The second reason being that most adventurers and explorers were to busy with the most recent crusade against a Vampire lord and his undead army far off in the mountains to the east of the forest.

How shall we establish ourselves? Perhaps unite the bandits of the forest under one banner? Hire a mercenary army? Hire builders to turn your rundown crumbling abandoned stone fort into a proper castle? Steal something to gain more funds? Perhaps set up a bandit ambush spot?

>>
>>39497210
We must gather the bandits to our banner. Whilst doing this, we should only raid into Steelgate lands, to avoid pissing off any other kingdoms.

In order to gather the bandits, who respect strength, we must start raiding nearby villages. Whilst we do that, we start clearing out any meadows and the like, start farming for our own food. Either that or set up an export to someone for wood, that our forest has plenty of.

You send your bandits out to raid from towns directly in your former homeland, having been part the nations nobility you know where all the most wealthy nobles and gentry leave. They set up camp inside the border and wait for nightfall to hit their targets. Fates decide how successful they perform however.

Bandits are nice but they can only do so much. You need someone to train them to be more then just thieves.

Finding a ranger was easy enough in the forest. He is an elf who simply goes by Treesap. He's a bit of a sarcastic jovial fellow but he can shoot a man with enough arrows so fast he'll die before he knows what hit him, he's not shabby with a sword either. He agrees to help train your men and join you, but only if he gets 200 gold upfront.

This idea is probably going to be expensive as fuck, but we should probably build a road or adopt an abandoned one that could be used by merchants. We'll properly invest and maintain in these roads, and once word gets out that someone's actually keeping that road nice, merchants will want to use it for their trading. We'll set up tolls for the use of this road. I'd like this to be a long-term goal.

Short term goal, let's find a way to racket someone wealthy out of their money. We can't continue to raid the neighboring, former kingdom forever since that will cause unwanted attention towards us. Especially once word gets out that the imposter princess is controlling the raiders.
>>
We definitely need to unite all the bandits or we'll stand no chance as a kingdom. And we can afford to do so with force because then they'll just unite against us. Our next step should be either Challenge or Seduce, but neither one seems to be easy.

You decide to lead the front on this one. A sight worth seeing as your rangers expertly take out the guards silently, as your warriors pick the lock gates and sneak in. You and your men manage to knock out every guard in the mansion without being seen. You pillage the banquet halls, the wine cellar, and the meat locker. you pilfer every coin, candlestick, and jewel you can get your hands on. You gain 4,000 gold worth of stuff (4,400 total) and a months worth of food. Before you leave though you find the Dukes bedroom. We need to start creating some foundation if we want to be something resembling civilization.

First though you train 6 of the new bandits into rangers (10 total) and the rest into warriors (24 total). You begin clearing the forest and begin expanding the camp. Huts start popping up around the camp for those who are starting to feel cramped in the fort. You now have plenty of felled timber and some clear land.

Gentlemen and ladies.

May I suggest that we might talk about upgrading our fort to real bonafide castle? Surely our royal princess deserves more than plain old fort and anykind of castle would be better than our current shack.

There are of course practical reasons for this too.
1) Bandit lords might be more impressed by our castle, since it has good chance being the best house in the area, so to speak.

2) better defending and room capality. We might be small now, but more and more people are coming to join our merry band,

3) we get a throne room.

Of course, we are not hurry build the castle, but it's always wise to plan ahead a step or two ahead.

And we need to kill those insane murderers.
They're rabid wolves that we need to put down before they become a problem to us.

You meet with the druids on horse back, and so are they. They ask you what business you have in their part of the forest. You inform them that you wish to make friends with all the denizens of the forest in hopes of creating a new kingdom that co-exist with an supports it. They call your ambition admirable, and will wait to pass judgement on your successful in this regard. They wish to remain neutral to any of your conflicts but they agree they will use their alliance with the Ents to inform them you mean the forest no great harm.

You stay, eat, and drink with them for a few days to further foster this new friendship.

The weeks pass and your castle is built, you may only have 4,400 gold now but you have a sturdy fortification, barracks, and personal throne room like a true princess. Sadly you now only have a week's worth of food left.
>Construct a building
>Raid
>Hire someone
>Train someone
>Hire builders to turn fort into castle
>Host a banquet at your fort, invite all the bandit lords, and make your proposal.
>Kill a bandit lord and force his followers to work for you.
>Challenge a Bandit Lord to a duel for his servitude
>Seduce a Bandit Lord
>Buyout a Bandit Lord
>Meet with an outside group
>Kill an outside group
>Other?

Can we ask them about the witches?
Who do the witches serve?

Also, what about the murderers and the dragon?
Will they help us put the murderers down?
How bad of a threat is the dragon, not only to us but to the denizens of the forest?

Seconding all these questions, >>39501248

>Raid Steelgate again
It's been a while, we should remind them that we still are pissed at being exiled. That or annex the closest village maybe?
>>
>>39501236
>Seduce the Green Dragon
>Raid Steelgate Duke again
>>
>>39501236
>Raid

And annex a village if we can.
>>
>>39501236
>Construct a farm
>Raid
>>
>>39501236
>Other
Scout villages on the Steelgate border for another raid; they'll likely have beefed up their defenses after we kidnapped the Duke.
>Raid
Raid the one that has weak defenses.

>Build a farm
>Hire farmers

During your stay they gladly inform you about the other neighbors. The druids inform you that the witches actually have a dragon god patron and serve the green dragon and fulfill his /every/ desire. As long he's feed and cared for he's a pretty lazy dragon, rarely ever leaves his den, the laziest one they've ever meet say the eldest ones.

As for the Murderers, they tend to stick close to the border, picking off passerby's on the road. They'd be glad to see them gone, but note they're more in your territory then theirs.

You set up for another raid. You have 25 warriors and 8 rangers. Not exactly an army by any stretch. With the duke's goods already taken, in more ways then one, you decide to raid several of the smallest nearby villages and hope you get lucky.

When you march your men into town you get an idea, instead of raiding and pillage, fear will do just fine. You burst into the house of the village elder and make a deal he can't refuse. You and your men would kill anyone or steal anything, if they gave you some food each week. You do this with three villages, together they provide with a weeks worth of food each week. You could've probably squeezed some coin out of the deal but you didn't want to risk rising their ire further then their fear.

Our brother will rue the day he tried to kill us!

I was JUST too late to participate, but read through the thread and this quest seems fun. Do you have a twitter account or something where you announce your next thread?

I'd like to be aware of future threads, this quest seems fun.

I'm afraid I do not, and I work on call so my schedule is crazy. I usually post in the afternoon though. Hopefully either tommorow or the day after.

What's your timezone? And I guess I'll just look out for your next thread then. If you're going to do this more often in the future, you might consider twitter or something else to tell everyone when the next threads are though.
