Stage 72: Go Better than Shogi? Nonsense!

Most spirit-children have issues of one sort or another. It's somewhat inevitable when you're dealing with one human parent and one parent that isn't even remotely human. Still, most spirit-children manage okay. Heaven, you're a victim of multiple incidents of parental and guardian stupidity, and you're doing fairly well.

The discovery that Yuuhi-chan, who is an incredibly talented fighter, has command of powerful and dark magic, and is the head of security for a god – well, demigod now, but still – suffers a severe phobia concerning technological explosive devices isn't really that unusual. Older spirit-children get that way sometimes. It's the way she acquired her phobia that is the issue right now, and you're talking to your personal priestess about rectifying the cause of that problem, fearsome spirits called iron shadows that haunt Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Specifically, the ones in Nagasaki, as they tortured your cute samurai into mental scars that are deep enough to concern your priestess.

Except your priestess, whose sacred duty is to appease and bind such creatures, thinks that you should kill them all.

Which makes sense if what she believes is true: that they are in truth demons, and neither youkai, kami, or yurei. She seems unsure, which is understandable, she only has the words of an admittedly tormented spirit-child to go on. Still, it's not a request your priestess would make lightly. On the other hand, the fact that your priestess IS making this request may mean you might have to do as she asks. Perhaps not immediately, no, but due to a technicality you're literally the kami she represents and worships, and therefore you need to be attentive to her requests, as you understand these things.

This is a really heavy sort of thing to lay on you just before you are going to speak to the landlady about upgrading to a penthouse suite and really tacking on the security measures. You're probably going to actually need the income from Chisato's gang ties in a few months, presuming Tokyo is still intact after you're done with it. Still, you're feeling better after letting off some steam with Akari and helping your wife regain a little of her own balance. Meditating helped too; your Shen is fully recovered, and you are close to fully healed now, just a mild itch along your right arm and a dull ache in your ribs.

“Kiku-chan, there's a few problems. First, that's in Nagasaki, and while we need to get away, they're closer to Kaga Clan territory. I just killed one of their senior members and foiled a set of their plans.” That reminds you of the sorceress Mizumi, who said the Kaga were bringing boxes of earth and stones from Hokkaido into the mainland. Secretly and by sailboat rather than simply shipping it in by plane or ferry. “Second, we don't really know what they are, and if they are demons, I'd be fighting against them in their home territory. Yuuhi-chan doesn't strike me as particularly incompetent, and she does carry the Ghost Flame, so that right there tells me I'll need more than Barrier Combat and my Poison Sword to cope with them.”

She nods solemnly, unmoved by your concerns. Tugging the sides of her yukata she gets down on her knees and lowers her head. She lifts her hands, preparing to clap them together.

[] Woah, woah, let's not get formal, Kiku-chan!
[] Be a good little kami and let your priestess do this properly.
[] Gently remind her she's not in her robes at the moment.
[] Quickly bring up another salient point in your favor before she makes a formal request.
[] Politely ask if she remembers you're not yet a demigod.

[X] Be a good little kami and let your priestess do this properly.
[X] Gently remind her she's not in her robes at the moment.
[+] You may need to wait until we've studied things , Kiku-chan!

You've experienced some odd things related to your true nature. One of them was feeling the effects and gaining strength from the prayers of your loved ones before your shrine, and even more potent ones when Kiku-chan prayed to you in Hinata-hakase's temple. You've never actually had her invoke you as a kami before, and while you're not quite sure what that entails, you're relatively certain that it's not going to be too traumatic since you're not truly a demigod yet, and your mikoto is still sleeping in Yomi.

She claps her hands sharply, twice. The first one is normal.

The second one resounds in your head like a thunderbolt, and the world shatters around you.

The walls around you are thin, misty things of fog, and the stones in the garden are insubstantial clouds. The water in the garden's water features is thick and powerful, while the grass is light and ephemeral, but more substantial than the rocks. The plants of the water features, especially the bamboo, are sturdy and strong. The sky is a shifting wash of colors, thermal pockets and zones of moisture and shifting swirls of wind and movement.

Standing at your right is a tall, elegant Ainu woman, wearing a white kimono and and expensive and elegant black robe with beautiful embroidery. Her hair is white and shimmers like jade, while her eyes are pale brown glass. At your left is a lovely Japanese woman, her hair black as night and the ends writhing along her arms and back in slow, strange crawling movements. Her robes are blood red, and her eyes are white and unseeing. You instantly know who they are – the necklace Matagama-no-Shitoki, and surprisingly, Ame-no-Omukade-no-Musume, the centipede spirit inhabiting your wakizashi.

When Kiku looks up at you, her eyes glow with golden light, and you can see the pulsing red light of her pearl in her breast, her mikoto at peace with herself and her place in the world. Standing, because you MUST stand before her, you look down at her. You hear her voices – the one with which she speaks in the physical world, and the resounding, perfect, pure voice that resounds within Shinkai, the Hidden World of the Kami..

“Ryuu Ryukusa, keeper of the mikoto of Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado, I beseech you: lay aside your nigi-matama, and take up your ara-mtiama. Please seek out and strike down the Demons that infest the damaged cities Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, the demons called Aian no Kage, the Iron Shadows that torment humanity. I beseech you, as your priestess and as the representative of humankind in this world and in the world of humans.” She seems to be asking you to set aside compassion and take up arms against the enemy, as far as what nigi-matama and ara-mitama mean. They're not words you're familiar with.

You can feel the power swelling around you, the potency of her request. Many other kami – those of the air, the water, the world around you, approve of her request: it is righteous. But you know instinctively that it is a request made to you, and it is your decision whether to grant this request or deny it – or to make a demand from her in return to fuel the strength it will cost you to enact her request.

[] I hear your prayers, and will grant them when I may do so.
[] I hear your prayers, and ask that you wait until the time is proper for such action.
[] I hear your prayers, and will do as you ask, but you must perform a ritual to absolve yourself of the impurity you cause by asking for destruction.

The situation must be pretty incredibly wrong in Kiku's eyes, though. I mean, even Er Yin getting hurt so badly didn't make her react a tenth as strongly than right now.

[X] When the time is proper and right, and you have purified yourself; but what of those kami who guard the city?
[+] I am a compassionate god....BUT BUDDHA I AIN'T! ….No, wait, that was Orion, shit. Nevermind.

You can feel the power of Shinkai flowing through you, and you know, just as you know the rules of this strange world of the Kami, that you are not yet prepared for this. Still, you have to wonder, is this the world that Hidesato, Kushinada, and Inau-chan see and feel? Is this what makes them so powerful?

Your lips move, but your real voice emerges from them. The booming voice that shatters the air into sudden winds and makes the ground shake – the REAL ground! - comes from behind you....and above you, far, far above you. Kiku's eyes are fixed on yours, but you're seeing her in duplicate now; you see her soft, beautiful heart-shaped face, reverent and calm, her glowing golden eyes looking into yours unafraid and hopeful. Her pretty yukata, the water from the earth staining her knees, and the warm red glow of her Pearl inside her chest, hidden by the delicate curves.

You are also looking down on her from far above, the golden radiance of her destructive power a shining beacon for your missing eyes. The swirl of fires that her Pearl protects and cherishes is an inferno that dances for you, her worship and joy in your existence and presence a thing of beauty. You can see the purity of her, and the faint dusting of darkness of impurity as all that live in the world of humankind possess. The accumulation from her request is small, but significant for one such as her, and must be removed. You also see the viscous swirl of deadly poisons, gold limned black water surrounding the sword you carry, powerful in its hunger and fearsome in its loyalty; there is also the white shine of the pure Celestial Jade that protects you, carrying you in her gentle love.

“I hear your prayers, Matagama Kiku, and will grant them when the time and power is mine to do so.” Your voice rips the winds into a frenzy, and the distant ocean washes back and forth, eager to come to you, eager to obey your command. You withhold it; now is neither the time nor the place to exert that power. The winds and the earthquakes are simply there because you are. “Why do you not see the guardians of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Where are their Kami, where are the Gods who protect it?”

Her voice carries to your ears, both voices speaking as one, but you are hearing them in two different sets of ears. “The kami cannot fight demons, Ame-No-Horobi-no-Mikado. They are of another realm, brought to Nippon-jin by the Fires of the Sun and kept here by the faith of those who are not of the Way of Spirits. They are beyond the touch of all but the one who commands their nature – their nature of destruction.” She kowtows before you. “Please hear my prayers and forgive me my temerity for asking this of you, my Kami.”

“You must cleanse yourself of the taint of Death, and give to the holder of my mikoto the strength and conviction in prayer to show you care for those harmed by your evil spirits. They will be given their chance to become part of Shinkai; if they accept they will be forgiven and remade. If they do not repent, they will be given the mercy they do not show others.” The dark clouds gather close and you take a deep breath.

A dark cloud appears, and it carries a shining staff, the blade of it glowing pure gold in it's destructive force. “What are you – oh, Ryukusa-san. You shouldn't be doing this sort of thing you know. You don't have permission to carry your mikoto yet.” In another set of your eyes, she pushes her spectacles up her nose and sets her naginata on the ground, the red-hot blade shimmering; you can also see the laughing oni that the blade's kami manifests as, laughing mildly at you. There's also a half dozen ghost lights near her, slowly swirling around and ready to do her bidding.

She also has an invisible but daunting entourage of horse headed and ox-headed oni at her beck and call, waiting underneath the dark cloud she's riding for her command to manifest and take offending criminals to Yomi.

You have the grace to blush. “Ah, sorry, Emi-sama, but Kiku-chan decided to give me some prayers, and she looked so cute....”

The weird thing is at the same time you say this, you ~also~ say, “Forgive me, Goyutomi Emi; apparently when she performs the proper rituals I am compelled to observe propriety.” The only difference is, the first voice is your own, and the second one causes a small storm to erupt nearby and causes another tremble in the earth from high above you....or directly in front of you, it's really hard to tell.

“Well, if it's that, then I really can't do anything about it. I just wanted to make sure no one was transgressing any laws or doing something foolish.” She gestures and the ghosts fade away, and the legions of oni dissipate in the shadow of her cloud. “Well, Ryuu Ryukusa,” she says to you, which sounds like Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado in another pair of ears far above you, “I am glad it isn't anything unfortunate.”

She turns her spectacled attention to Kiku, who is still kowtowed, but looking up, her golden eyes bright and surprised. “Matagama Kiku. Please refrain from calling the mikoto of Ryuu Ryukusa into her presence while it is still not reincarnated. Ordinarily I would be forced to punish you, but in this particular instance, I can see that you were motivated by righteous and pure intent, as well as by the higher emotions.”

“Thank you, Goyutomi Emi, for your gracious forgiveness in my trespass. I will refrain from making this mistake again.” It's weird to hear Kiku this incredibly contrite! She sits up and claps her hand twice, the first resounding in both of your sets of ears like a thunderclap, and the second sounding ordinary, as is the world around you. Kiku-chan bows very deeply to Emi-sama, her hands pressed together and her eyes closed. You know she was a record keeper, but apparently she's a very important one!

“Please, forgive my priestess and myself – but I trust my priestess absolutely, and am sure she would never do such as this with intent to cause trouble to you or interfere in the natural order of these things. This is a matter of great importance for her to take such drastic action, and I cannot fault her even through it troubled you.” You bow deeply though, as deep as Kiku-chan and you notice the smile of pride that flickers across her lips as you do so. For her part, Emi-sama looks pleased, and bows to both of you, allowing you to stand back up.

You surreptitiously clean the water and mud from Kiku-chan's yukata and....

[+] There are some demons that I've been asked to deal with....

“Really, thank you again for not punishing my priestess, Emi-sama.” You walk over to stand behind the diminutive dragonette, whose cheeks color profusely as you lay your arms possessively over her shoulders and across her chest. “She really means a great deal to me, and I love her dearly.” Kiku-chan lowers her gaze and you hear her mutter softly, 'baka dragon'. Not with much vehemence, you note.

“So I recall. It really is an unusual situation – not unheard of, but the protocols allow for some measure of flexibility in a case like yours, Ryuu Ryukusa.” You note that without the presence of Shinkai, she has revered entirely to her required formal mode of address. Unfortunately, as curious as you might be about the other cases – your cousin undoubtedly one of them – you're pretty sure her vows and oaths prevent her from discussing other people's cases with you.

“I take it 'the higher emotions' are part of what grants that flexibility?”

Emi-sama nods, leaning on her naginata and rubbing the back of one ankle with her geta. “Yes, she must care about some one very dearly to have risked incurring a visit from me.” You can't stop your eyebrows from lifting as you glance down at Kiku, whose hair explodes into soft flames, the hot breeze from her body rising along your breasts and face.

“Really? I didn't think you were that fond of Yuuhi-chan, Kiku-chan.”

“Bakayero aniki! You worry over her so much, of course I would make sure she is taken care of!” She crosses her arms huffily and you glance at Emi-chan, who is carefully ~not smiling~ at the outburst and resultant pout.

“I think that you consider her part of our family, don't you, Kiku-chan....” Reaching up, you slide your fingers along her warm, brass-like horn. She relaxes against you, though she struggles to maintain her pout and what's left of her dignity.

“H...hai, aniki....”

You continue to play with her horn, as you smile to Emi-sama. “If you don't mind me asking....” She inclines her head, perfectly willing to tell you if she can't answer you, at least. “There are some demons I've been asked to deal with, the aian-no-kage, that live in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Specifically, the ones in Nagasaki....”

“Yes, Ryuu Ryukusa, I know of them. They are demons born of the Catholic Faith when the bombs fell. They were born of the idea that the thing they call Armageddon was happening, and that the whole world would burn in fire.” You feel a shiver from your priestess, and it's isn't exactly the kind of shiver that is unpleasant, because her tail is creeping up your calf under your hakama leg and stroking your thigh. “They're very potent demons, though most of what they can do is merely show you things.”

You nod slowly. “That seems to be more than enough.”

“I suspect you might need something more powerful than the sword you carry and your Barrier techniques to fight them.” Deja vu. “But I think you have something more powerful than those already.” You look at your left hand, the sapphire talons gleaming. “Be careful, Ryuu Ryukusa. A demon is a creature that does not obey the rules of the kami, though that which affects kami can affect them because of the nature of Shinto. You must not allow them to corrupt you, because if you were to receive your mikoto while so corrupt, it would be....unfortunate.”

Keeping Kiku-chan calm seems to be pretty good at the moment, for she only glances up idly at the implied disaster, purring as you run your fingers along her horn. “Thank you, Emi-sama, I'll remember. I would like to invite you up for tea, but I am afraid I have an errand to run. Kiku-chan would be willing to invite you to meet my family, I am sure, and I will be back up momentarily despite the hectic nature of my household....” Kiku looks up curiously, though she can't manage dubious at the moment.

“No, thank you, Ryuu Ryukusa. I must return to my duties, though I may take you up on it. And I have enjoyed spending time with your family.” For a moment you're the one who is confused....until you recall her job. Working with the reincarnations outside the Buddhist systems....as is the case with your entire family. “If you wish to come visit again, I will happily receive you at the front door mas long as you do not bring Ryiekatsumoun.” She glances pointedly above your head and you refrain from bothering to look.

“Of course, Emi-sama. Thank you again.” You bow, still keeping Kiku-chan captive, which mean she bows with you, and she jumps when you brush your tail against the backside of her yukata. Emi's black cloud appears under her feet, and it slowly swallows her. “Well, that was several kinds of exciting, Kiku-chan.” You kiss the top of her head and she sighs softly, her arms hugging yours to her chest as her tail slides to coil about your upper thigh.

You hold Kiku-chan close, own over her as she preses her body back against yours, her soft, heated body radiating that soothing warmth that is unlike anything except her. Your tail traces nonsense patters along your inner thigh, and you slip yours under her yukata, tracing the backs of her stockings....stockings?

Moving your tail a little higher, you explore the stockings, finding fastenings to what is surely a garter belt to hold them up. “Why Kiku-chan, I know you weren't wearing your robes, but I can feel why you were so impure now!” Her cheeks redden and she squirms but doesn't try to deny it. It's not true of course, purity is more about what's inside, but still, you can just imagine what else she's wearing. “I take it that you're going to need some attention before we leave?” She nods, silently, her cheeks still hot, her blood close to boiling. “Well, I'm flattered that you went to so much trouble, but you didn't really have to.”

“I want it to be pleasant for you, Ryukusa-sama.” You can't help but smile. “I thought you would enjoy that sort of thing.”

“I do, but I don't need it....but it's something I am definitely looking forward to now. You deserve more attention that the little bit of time we had last time.” She relaxes and her tail brushes the sensitive place along your groin, just this side of your fundoshi. You know they're men's clothing, but really they're the only think you'd want to risk wearing under hakama, just in case someone gets clever with a sword, or grabby.

Besides, there's a cute black g-string under it.

When you lick her horn she gasps and nearly collapses into your arms. You hold her steady, and inhale the scent of her hair, the crisp, hot scent of your Fire dragonette. “I need you to stay here a little while, in case I need help getting back home. I've done everything I could to strengthen myself, and you and your sister helped a lot, but it's the third time in two weeks I've had to visit the landlord. The last time was bad enough.”

She's still catching her breath, and you lean down to whisper in her ear. “And if Rie-sama tries to follow me, I need you to distract her. I'm sorry, I wouldn't ask you if I didn't have to, but I can't have her following me in there this time.” Her breath speeds up and you can feel her starting to panic. So you remind her of those 'higher emotions' that Emi-sama mentioned. Mentioned, as a matter of fact, shortly before she warned you about Rie-sama's presence. “If Yuuhi-chan knew about what you did, she's thank you very much, you know. I think she'd kowtow to you.”

Kiku-chan's breathing slows just a little. “Do the others think she's a true part of our family now too? Like you do?” You keep your voice soft and soothing, your hand stroking her hair, keeping her close to you. The tremor of fear is still there, but she's fighting it, fighting hard. You help her, just a little, by reducing the flow of adrenaline into her blood, tracing her chi meridians with your fingertip as you stroke her back.

“....Kiki-hime does....I think Akari-san sees her as she sees Yui-san, as a comrade in arms now....” You don't correct her assumption on how Akari-niji-chan sees her Yui. More importantly Kiku-chan's panic is easing, but you know there's no way you can completely mitigate her terror of the nekomata. Going to your knees in the grass you pull her into your lap, tightening your arm about her waist and trapping her against you. You wrap your tail around her ankles. The deep breath she takes this time is not because of fear.

“You did a very dangerous, almost stupid thing for her sake, Kiku-chan. That's not something you do for just anyone.” She looks down and you wrap your other hand around her arm, taking her chin in your hand forcing her head up high. “Is it?”

“....” She takes a deep breath, and whispers softly, “I remembered your promise to me, to Yui-san....to my sister....no one harms us anymore. No one at all.” You let go of her chin and lay your hand across her breasts, over her Pearl. You feel the heat from it, the source of her Flame. “I only did what you would have done if you had known, Ryukusa-tan,” she admits in a small voice.

You find yourself strangely touched that she would take that risk because it would be a risk you would take too. Of course she does know more about the dangers os such things than you do, but still, it was a risk she took for the sake of protecting the family you've gathered together once more in spite of all the efforts of your enemies. You do know that the priestesses and priests try and emulate the particular kami they serve in a way – compassionate and gentle as much as possible, but fearlessly and selflessly acting when needed. Just as she asked you to do.

That's almost disturbing to think about. Is it remnants of being in the world of the Kami, Shinkai, or is it that your true nature is showing through more and more as you recover your strength and tighten the bonds with your family?

Regardless, the most important thing now is Kiku-chan. You slide your hand up along her chest to the neck of her yukata, and slowly slide the neck and sleeve down just a little, exposing the soft line of muscle and tendon of her shoulder. “Then, I have to say, you did exactly right, Kiku-chan. I certainly can't condemn you for it, dangerous as it was. Just don't take a risk that I would survive, if you couldn't, please?” She nods, her fingers reaching nervously, uncertain of what you're doing. Especially in the garden, in public.

“Well, since my priestess is emulating me so well....a reward is in order, I think. Something to remind her how pleased I am she is taking care of the people who are precious to us.” Her breath catches as you kiss her shoulder lightly, the slowly open your mouth, your tongue tracing the place where your lips lingered....then you bite, quite hard.

She stiffens in your arms, her tail squirming, nearly thrashing between your legs, giving you several very hard slaps along your thighs. The minuscule pain is nothing compared to the desperate, pining whine in her throat, the intensely needy sound that has her eyes glowing and heat distortion spilling from between her lips. You keep her there, trapping her in a hug, even as you mark your priestess as yours, bruising her pale skin and leaving her shaking and weak with the experience.

You let go with your teeth, and kiss the bruised marks, then her cheek. “If it is my Kiku-chan, then it cannot be helped, hmn?” She turns her face to yours and smiles beatifically, and lets you enfold her in your gi sleeves, hold her close and protect her from the world. Kiku-chan is absolutely soaked, you can feel it and smell it from her; yet she's also utterly relaxed, thoroughly and totally calm and unafraid now. Keeping her to yourself for a few more minutes, you sigh and lift her, carrying her to the bench. She allows it, though you're sure she can walk by now.

You suspect this is an instance where she doesn't mind being carried, hundred-and-eighty-year old or not.

She reaches up before you step away and traces your cheek, her golden eyes serious, her cheeks red. You smile and rest your hand over hers, before you stand up and turn to walk into the office.

There isn't a secretary today, so you announce yourself over the intercom. “Ryuu Ryukusa, here to request an upgrade to my living area and discuss the incidents at my apartment.”

“Hhhrrrmmmm.”

Well, that's a good sign. You walk in, opening the door, and looking into the writhing fleshy sun darking the ultraviolet landscape, the narrow, fragile bridge leading to her desk. He sits up and opens her mouths, and you stagger out of the office onto the pavement, the sun burning your eyes and your skin feeling like it's peeling off of your muscles. You fall to your hands and knees on the paving stone, hearing, distantly, Kiku-chan's shout. You haven't the foggiest idea what she said, but you suspect it was something like your name. You will the paving stone to stop swaying back and forth. You don't even remember walking back through the front office.

Collapsing onto your back, you see Kiku-chan and Rie looking down at you, Kiku-chan's expression that perfect mixture of angry and scared, while Rie is lightly touching your face, patting it with her fingertips. Heh, just like a cat checking up on someone.

You're pretty sure you say something to the effect that they have to be calm, that they're making it worse, but you're not sure if they're paying attention. Or if you actually said anything, which you think might be a very bad sign. Kiku-chan is calling out to someone off to the side, while Rie is leaning over and sniffing your mouth, which you're sure Kiku-chan wouldn't like. Fortunately, before you find out Rie pulls back and speaks to someone else, the someone who has Kiku-chan's attention as well. You don't know who it is, because your next priority is checking to see if you are actually as fucked up as you feel.

Your blood is flowing very sluggishly, and your heart feels badly bruised. If you were capable of having a heart attack, something which you shouldn't be able to suffer from, you'd suspect that this is what it would be like afterwards. There's no internal injuries and you're not really bleeding anywhere inside except for your eyes – you've got the worst case of petechial hemorrhage that you've ever seen or heard of. Your scleras are completely flooded, and the edges of your eyesight are dimmed and reddened; there's blood actually encroaching onto your lenses. But there's no damage to anything outside of your heart and your eyes, and realistically that's superficial in both cases.

Well, after the fact it is. It probably nearly killed you when it was happening.

What you really need is to submerge yourself. You lift your hand and a strong, cool hand takes it and holds it gently; you can't really see her, the sun's too bright right there. The world becomes soft and warm, like you are on the rooftop, with the sun shining on you. You relax, and tell them to just give you a moment, you'll be fine. Your eyes drift lazily over Rie's face, and she's staring at the person holding your hand. Chisato is there, and she's kneeling next to you, her thumb against her lips, an expression of pain and intense concentration making her seem like some warrior from the past. Kiku-chan's hand is pressed to the side of your face, keeping your head turned up.

The sunbeam at your side places your hand and hers between your breasts, over your Pearl. Chisato reaches down and places her thumb against your lips, blood dripping into your mouth. Yui is there, and she places her hands over your breasts, looking at you upside down as she kneels with your head between her legs. She says something, but you miss what it was. Then you sit up in shock as lightning explodes through your body, galvanizing the blood and sending it through your entire body instantly; at the same time the sunbeam yanks your spirit back from the brink of dissolution, pinning it to your body with white hot needles.

You sit up, gasping for breath as the world becomes a solid, real place, your Pearl pulsing in time to your restored and rather fast heartbeat. You remember speaking to Ooya-sama, apologizing for the trouble you caused, and you recall her responding in the appreciative. You explained your needs and she said she would be able to provide them, for the requite sum on money. This you provided up front, and you resigned the paperwork for the penthouse apartment.

But then something happened, you're not sure what and you somehow, impossibly, missed your footing, falling into the spaces under the walkway to the desk. As if something had wound it's way around your ankles, something cool and slick, slender, but muscular. You spend an eternity in that place, making your way back, forcing your way through the unlimited hells for centuries and seconds. It was a spider that had showed you the way, leaving a slender silver thread for you to follow, an apology for her sister's foolish behavior.

“Fuck this....time to go to the damn beach,” you whisper huskily, which elicits a wide variety of reactions from those around you. Laughter, unsurprisingly, is not one of them.

Chisato slaps you on the shoulder. “Hey, Aoi-chan, don't scare us like that next time!” Yui-niji-chan falls back on the grass. “Faaaahk!” Kiku-chan presses her hands together and says a litany of prayers to thank a number of kami and kamuy. Rie-sama is looking at you curiously and touches your cheek again. But it's the person who is holding your hand that catches your attention, because last you checked she was being kept in a coma.

Er Yin-sensei smiles, her left arm in a sling, not to mention bandaged from shoulder to wrist. She is half wearing a jacket over a simple set of robes, and her unseeing eyes are fixed far past you. “Welcome home, Ryukusa-sama. Thank you for staying.” You blink your eyes at her, stunned, realizing you nearly died several times over. The snake that tripped you had to have been sent, or set to do so. But that isn't nearly as incredible as looking into Er Yin's eyes. And you doubt that anyone else would be seeing what you are seeing, except Rie, of course.

Because Er Yin's eyes are slowly changing from the gold of the summer sun to the soft blue steel of their natural color.

>On the other hand, what is long, cool, muscular and slender, and fits nicely around one's ankles?

A snake.

Oba-shit has gone and done it.
>>
>>39492318
Is ryukusa's hair now ridiculously long, or was that something dragonettes don't have to worry about?
>>
Fuck

I hope those people we had in a Barrier didn't feel this experience.

Something that was listening to Ryukusa and Kiku, and possibly tried to interfere when we talked to the landlord?

So basically she's back on her feet and conscious, but not completely healed, I presume.

>>39492388
Gotta give it to her, she waited inside Tsathoggua's office for Ryukusa to come in.
>>
>>39492310
Not certain - either tomorrow or Thursday.

>>39492310
True, but your choices in this thread and the thread previous made a difference.
By caring for your loved ones especially well and being kind to them, and by being polite and appropriately contrite to Emi while not allowing her to undermine your priestess' actions, you steeled yourself and made yourself as much 'you' as you could be.

This relates to
>>39492337
Yes. Yes. Sort of.

>>39492335
Yes and no. They'll be altered because of where she was, and she won't have access to them unless she's in places that aren't part of the human world.
>>
>>39492404
Ryukusa has always had very long hair - it reaches past her derriere when undone. It's one of her few points of pride.

Make sure you keep putting it up before you get into fights.
>>
>>39492404
Oh, misunderstood your question.

No, Ryukusa didn't physically change while she was trapped There.
>>
>>39492506
Well that's good, those nails would have been a pain to clip and it's not like she could keep them.
>>

>long hair
>bountiful breasts
How could people like Kiki think that was a boy?
>>
>>39492588
When she was younger she wore shabby boy's clothes and kept her hair in a ponytail (which is a boy's style in Japan) because of her training. She was also a late bloomer in the bust department.
>>
>>39492360
Yes, and more importantly, what you did in the past two threads determines how well you coped with the 200 year trial that her trek back home was, and how easily you can access the things you learned and did there without incurring trauma.

> They'll be altered
200 years in hell is one heck of a karmic debt to add here, especially necessitating Ame-chan's intervention. Oba-san must be desperate.

With that I bid you a good night, for what little night I have before work.

Worth every sentence.

Night!
>>
>>39492863
Good night, XS, and thank you VERY much for running.
>>
>>39492863
We really need to tell the void dragonette and wood oni that Hakou will be on Oba-san's hit-list now. Next thread, I suppose.
>>
>>39493282
Oh, and possibly steal that Wood Dragonette from under Oba-san's nose.
