Current Recap:

Your name is Sierra Beckhoff. You are the coolest person you know, and with one notable exception, you are probably the most badass. Basically you’re the kind of person who takes care of business and gets the job done.

Except in this case, getting the job done somehow landed you in the middle of Nowheresburg, Colorado. With nothing but evergreen trees and snow for miles around, you’ve got to figure out a way out of this forest and eventually back home. Tomorrow is a school day, after all.

Still. It’d help if you didn’t freeze to death first.

--

While your hellhound’s off fetching you nourishment so you can get back on your feet, you huddle up with your chin on your knees and position your wet clothing around you. With any luck you should be able to dry everything out in an hour or two, given that you’re a one person campfire now.

You let your mind wander as you wait. With the whole situation relatively under control, you feel a heavy burden taken off your shoulders. (-15 Stress: 75/103)

If you keep up with this landwell collecting thing, how much more demon stuff are you going to get? Like, wings are a foregone conclusion, but is it going to be like that scene in The Fly where Jeff Goldblum starts pulling out his teeth or whatever? Well, not your teeth, since you haven’t met a demon yet without teeth. But like, you’ve already got fangs and borderline shark choppers. What if you turn into more of a shark and get like, gums full of random teeth? And you start shedding teeth all the time? You guess you can deal with that if that’s what’s going to happen, you guess.
>>
>>39485028

But there’s other stuff that could happen. Ranthix is bright red and covered in bone plates. What if that’s you in five years? Except your bone plates are probably going to be all black and stuff, like your claws. You have a look at one of your hands, following the sinewy contours of the ossified flesh. That stuff’s going to be your skin before long, maybe. Future you is going to be pretty damn conspicuous. You already stand out a lot without glamors, but you won’t even be able to pass off the whole ‘half-human’ thing anymore.

While the thought of tanking bullets and flipping cars and stuff is cool as hell, you kind of wonder. Baron totally flipped his lid when you showed him what you really looked like. You thought he had a serious crush on you or whatever. Sure, he apologized, but that doesn’t change the fact he totally freaked out.

Is that how guys are going to be from now on? You’ve always thought you were super hot and all that, you know, if you wanted to put any effort into it, but it makes you wonder. You’re sure you’re stylish and badass and all that, but... are you still attractive? Can you be hot and scary at the same time? Or is it like, more of a scary kind of hotness, where people don’t actually think about you as being hot, except in retrospect?

All this landwell stuff is cool, and you’re probably not going to stop either way, though. Superpowers are too awesome to say no.

Ugh. How’d you wind up in this situation? Like, not with landwells, but, like, just with everything. You thought maybe stuff was all going to work out when Isaac gave you that marshal deputy job, but you just screwed everything up like a week later. You have people that are okay with you being you, and that’s cool, but doing highschool? What are you going to do with a highschool diploma?

The thought of working some nine-to-five job makes you retch. You’re probably going to be like... a mercenary or something.
>>
>>39485043

Or you guess you’re working toward being the Imperiate? How’s that going to work? You don’t think it’s as easy as getting so swole that eventually you can just go to hell and take over. And what would you even do if you took over? You don’t have an agenda, or any real ambition to do stuff. You’ve never even been to hell. Ranthix thinks it’ll work out, but he has an idea of you that’s kind of larger than life.

Life is hard. You’d rather just chill out forever, doing whatever it is you want to do most. The sun dips down further, and you wind up falling asleep. You hear a barking, and snap back up. (-3 Stress: 72/103; +1 HP: 17/29; +2 PP: 11/37)

It’s dark outside, and cold, but it seems warmer in your little ice cave shelter thing. You reach out to your clothes, and find them warm and dry. Yes. First stage of the plan complete.

You kneel and look out of the shelter, and see Reeber dragging something toward the shelter. It’s big – some kind of sheep, maybe? Or a goat? Whatever. You can smell the blood from here. It’s fresh. Maybe even still alive.

With some concentration, you manage to extinguish your body flames so you can get dressed. You pull on your dry clothes, accidentally putting your new spines through the shoulders of your shirt. Things don’t seem to fit as well with a bunch of random sharp points coming off you. You’ll have to figure out a new glamor or something for those, but for the time being, you’re good to go.

You climb out of the shelter and go meet Reeber, your legs sore and protesting. The hellhound looks up at you with a lolling tongue, its teeth dripping in blood.

You rub his head, and examine the prize. It’s some kind of goat, you guess. That’s cool. A gust of wind cuts past, leaving you with a slight chill.
>>
>>39485062

A few minutes and a whole lot of blood later, you’re feeling pretty fresh. (+6 HP: 23/29; +2 PP: 13/37; -3 Stress: 69/103) Your legs feel a lot better, though there’s still a dull ache and they still feel stiff. If you wanted, you could probably start making your way out of this forest, whichever way that is.

Before you manage to go anywhere though, you realize you accidentally smeared some goat blood on your sweet jacket. Before you can kick yourself over it though, the blood fades into the fabric somehow.

The ripped material from where Zorr's claws got you mends together, repairing the damage as if it were never there.

You stretch out the jacket and frown at it. Something tells you Moriah didn't really tell you everything she did to the piece of clothing.

Anyway, though you’re on foot, and it’s the middle of the night, you actually see better in the dark, and you can move a lot faster than the average person. Even if it’s miles to civilization, you can probably get there tonight without too much effort.

Monster might still find something.

You know, if we had let ourselves freak out, we probably would have been out of here by now. Y'know, just saying.

We're also missing Power of Blood, Corrupting Hex, and our whale-shark-crab thing under summons

Wait, nevermind, whale crab is there, just in the same paragraph as Tiger. My bad.
>>
What meter will we gain the next time we do freakout?
>>
The meter meter. When it maxes out we get a new meter. Builds slowly over time, resets when we freakout or equivalent.
>>
>>39485760
Probably something to do with Belphegoran nastiness. We've got a stress meter for bloodrage (Infernus), we've got a sanity meter (Verwelken), and we've got the bloodlust meter (could be either Infernus or Verwelken. Maybe both?).

So we'll probably get some sort of meter for feeding on negative emotions that necessitates we be an asshole to people or otherwise make them feel bad and starts resulting in Tourette's-like behavior designed to make other people feel bad if we let it build up too much. Something like Bloodlust, except for emotional pain and suffering rather than violence and blood.

Oh man, I imagine that'd be really troublesome if we let it build up. Suddenly we have terrorizing glare active without realizing it and everybody is shrieking.
>>
>>39485864
That's fucking horrifying. Like, that would turn Sierra into some kind of avatar of Death. Just being in an area would kill every human in a couple minutes. She'd be unable to go to the hospital at all because people would start dying within seconds of nightfall. Animals would just drop out of the air all around her. Her claimed landwell territories might end up completely devoid of life at worst or filled with parasites and hemovores at best. Or the local life might start mutating to all be vampiric. At least it'd be impossible for her house to get infested with bugs. They'd all die instantly the second they got in range.

You snap, and Monster soars down out of the clear darkness to alight on your claw. “Go look for lights and stuff,” you say. “Should be pretty easy if it’s really the middle of nowhere.”

Monster screeches at you.

“Don’t give me that crap, just do your job.” And with that, you throw him back into the air, and the imp flies off in search of glowy lights.

Looking up, you see a multitude of starry pinholes in the sky. Or rather stars. So many stars. (-2 Stress: 67/103)

“That’s a whole lot of stars,” you say to nobody in particular. You bet it’s only going to get worse as the night goes on. Or better.

Reeber makes a grumbling sound.

“Ah don’t worry. I’ll ask for directions,” you say. “Stay here.”

Reluctantly, Reeber stays put while you traipse off into the wilderness to find a nice, dark, quiet spot. The snow tingles coldly underfoot. Ugh. No shoes. This is going to suck.

Anyway, you eventually find yourself in isolation, stick your thumbs in your pockets. “All right, any of you guys know where the nearest city is?” you ask. With the question hanging in the night air, you bow your head and listen.

Several murmuring voices edge into your awareness. One beckons for your attention, and you turn your attention to it.

Words scream into your mind, hissed by a tandem of voices, one clear as pain, ͘t͘he̵ ͏oţh͢er c͢r̢o̢aki͢ng̷, ̢ r̶̕a̶̵͟͜͞s̷͟͠p̨̢į͝͞ņ͘͟͏̴ģ̸̛.̵̧͟ ̀͢͟͞ ̨̧̀͘͢“̸̨̢T̡̨͞͝͞h̡̛͜e̸͡ ̧̡͠oné͘͢͜ ̴͝͝ţha̡̧͘t͜͝͏̛͝ ͏͡s͏̛͟l̢̛̕͜͠ę́̀͡ep͘̕s̨̛ ̡́͘͡͞t͠͡ḩ̧͝è͘ ̴̡̡̕͠o̸̡̨͢͡ne ̧̛͝͠t̷̢͘̕͠h͢͝at̷͠ ̷̧s̴̛e̛͘͘͢ę̷͞s̴̨̡͢͠ ͟͜͝t̷̶̡̨͟h̷͠e͞ ̡́̀͜͝o͏̷ņ̸͞͏e͟͠ ̴t̕̕͜͟h͏̕͡a̕̕͝ţ́͘ a̶̴̕l̷͞͞k̷̛͜s͠ ̶̷̨͘t͏͢͢͝h̵̢́e̕͏̢̨ ̡͜o͟͠n͢͟ȩ͝ ̡͡th̀́̕͟a̡t̷͝ ͠s̷̢̨̧͜ṕę̛͘͡a̸̴͟͢͝ks͟ ̷̧t̷̕h̸́̀̕͢e̶̴͢͢͞ ̢̀̕͢͏o͏̶̢͘ne͜͡͝͠ ̴t̴̴͘͜͠h́͡͠a̷̵͢t ̀d̵͜r̶͞͡͠è͠͏̡a̴̡̨̧̨m̵̨̡s̵̨ ̨̕t̷̶̛͝h̴͏̶̛͢e̢̨͢͡ ̵̀͡ó̶̧̧̧ń̕͟e̷̡̛̛͝ ̶̴̨̕͢thá͡͝t̴͜ ̷̷̡͘͜-̀͏̴ ̵̵̡͟͜”̴̶͞ ̧̢̕

You fight to tear the muttering, wailing voice from your mind, and cast it back into the darkness. (-3 Sanity: 82/100; +5 Stress: 72/103)
>>
>>39486254

You’re not sure exactly what happened, but when you’re able to make sense of your surroundings, you find yourself clinging to a tree, your head aching, your heart pounding, and your breathing heavy. “I’ll uh. I’ll just f-figure it out my... myself,” you say.

You take a deep breath and stagger back to Reeber. “We’re just... going to wing it,” you say, still short on breath. You kind of forget what your plan was, but walking probably isn’t a bad idea. You need to put some distance between yourself and this place.

You trek off with Reeber running ahead, you walking along at speed behind. Your leisurely stroll is quick as hell so long as nobody’s watching you.

You walk on through the snow and night, passing trees and navigating difficult terrain. A few times you wind up in snow hip deep, and you wind up having to get Reeber to blaze a trail for you.

“Sweet mercy it’s fucking cold,” you say, alternatively clenching and unclenching your fists as you pick your way around shrubs and undergrowth.

“Deal with it,” you reply. “There’s bound to be a road or a McDonalds around here somewhere, just got to keep going.”

“I freaking hate McDonalds,” you growl. Worst place to work – food’s good though. Wait just a second. Who are you talking to? “Shut up, you’re talking to yourself again.” You can’t believe this. (+1 Stress: 73/103)

You scoff. Somebody’s got attitude. Well, you, but still. “I’m just stressed out. Cut me some slack, alright?”

You take a deep breath and try to clear your head. Silence isn’t a bad thing. You get a report from Monster a second later, and take a second to see through his eyes. You see a faint glow in the distance.

Aw yes.

You change up your course and hike in the more better direction.
>>
>>39486273

You continue on your new course, making pretty good time and slowly getting colder until you pick something up at the edge of your awareness.

No way. Seriously?

You hike further, and the feeling gets stronger. Up ahead, you spot a ghostly ribbon of energy winding through the trees, almost like a vein. It’s kind of a tangent to your current course, but then again... wings?

“Welly well now,” you say to yourself. Heh. Wells. “Would you look at that. Reeber, we’re making a detour.”

The hellhound halts in his tracks, and circles around to rejoin you.

“Let’s do this,” you say. Wings, here you come.

You approach the ley line, and then begin following it down toward the heart. The glow from the power seems at odds with the shadowy landscape that you see, but you guess it’s not physical light that it’s giving off. Super special landmaster light. Landmasters only.

You hike on for maybe a half mile before the ley line begins swelling up, merging with other incoming branches. Yep. This is definitely the place.

Following through, you hear the sound of running water, and come to a small stream. You hop over the black iciness, focusing on your prize.

You come out of the trees to the rocky shoreline of a vast black lake. A sheet of ice coats the water’s surface. The clearing somehow feels even colder than the forest behind you.

The key to the whole scene is the cold light beaming above the water’s surface. The landwell is maybe thirty feet out from the shoreline, maybe even still in the shallows, fixed serenely above the ice.

One other important detail you do notice, though. The landwell’s not a silvery star that could fit in the palm of your hand. It’s a weirdly emerald orb, about a foot across. The well smokes with teal light, the power wafting upward into the darkness.
>>
>>39486790
>A bit worrying there.

Huh. Is this one of Hugo’s? Or maybe someone else’s?

You look warily at the ice. It’s been a while since you started hiking, and you have some power to spare if you want to get dangerous. (PP: 17/36; HP: 24/29) You’ve managed to calm down some as well, so freaking out’s probably not an issue. (-15 Stress: 58/103)

We don't even know if it is claimed.

The fact that it's an orb rather then a small star could mean anything, like there is lots of absorbed power laying around in it. The teal color hasn't come up before and a quick look through the archive doesn't show any thing about orbs and stars. The power wafting upward into the darkness could mean it's transferring to the owner, but it could mean several other things. Nothing for sure.
>>
>>39487060

I'd hope the only fuckery is IC - and as we likely wouldn't understand anything or see it as it truly is it would be difficult to meta make sane decisions. That sort of meta fuckery only helps trolls - removing agency a shit, but manipulating our understanding of the situation would be cool. Players would have to be cool and not just stay still to prevent fuck ups though, acting as if we were sane.
>>
>>39487037
It has been stated that you can not just steal landwells.
My list of personal assumptions is that the whole "Seal the rift" deal would take a lot of time, so if Hugo claimed the rift he'd be in a kill-or-be-killed situation, which is undesirable when you know you'll be outnumbered.
Or maybe I'm completely wrong and he was just following some Landmaster etiquette from the book of knowledge we never got to read.
>>
>>39487140
>It has been stated that you can not just steal landwells.
I don't remember that being said at all, and even if it was then I have to question where it got said seeing as a chunk of the shit we've heard about landmasters has been a misinfo campaign designed to cripple other landmasters.
>>
You look warily at the ice. Of all the defenses, it had to be a freaking lake. You could probably work with it anyway, but even if you got to the well, you’re not sure stealing it’s a good idea. And you don’t really know if you actually want to talk to the master of this land. If they’re anything like Sattler’s moose man, you’d be better off not seeing them at all.

You snort and walk down the shoreline. Too much drama, and it’s too late at night for this crap. Maybe you could take the well, rejuvenate, and fly off into the sunset, or maybe you’d just get the crap beat out of you. Or maybe the ice would break and you’d get dumped into frigid Colorado water.

Discretion is the better part of not drowning.

Walking to the edge of the lake, you eventually come across a clear path of snow leading through the woods. Some kind of trail, or something? You can’t tell since it’s buried, but it looks like it leads off, following the contours of a stream leading away from the lake.

Maybe the trail goes to a road? If you got to a road, you could hitchhike the hell out of here.

Oh, and fun fact: Dragons in this setting are nearly universally planeswalking landmasters. Fucking with a claimed well carries the risk of a pissed off dragon the size of a mountain teleporting on top of you.
>>
>>39487542
And how do you know this?
>>
You figure there’s nothing to be gained by cross country jaunting, except maybe feet even more sore than they are now. At least on a trail, you’ll avoid deep snow drifts and getting your legs any wetter than they are now. And if things are even better, there’s the whole possibility of roads.

You dispatch Monster to scout ahead, and begin trudging down the stream-side river trail.

The quiet babbling of water over rocks is kind of nice, and Reeber seems a lot calmer now than he was before. If it weren’t so damn cold, the meandering route of the trail would be relaxing or something like that, but as is you’ve got worries.

It occurs to you that you know exactly nothing about landmasters. Only Isaac’s book knew anything, and even it was full of BS. And yet here you are, on some landmaster’s land. Hopefully if they can sense your presence, they don’t get pissed at you.

You check in with Monster, and find that he’s found a ruddy dirt road bearing tire tracks. Your trail leads straight to it. “Success,” you hiss to yourself, picking up the pace.

Several minutes later and even colder than before, you come out onto the road, or at least the vehicle sized trail. You look both ways, though don’t see anything.

Reeber goes ahead and sniffs at a tree, interested in something.

You scent the air as well, but the snow’s cleaned out everything except the smell of pine.

You feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, and in the distance, you hear the sound of a running engine. Blinding spots of light beginning flashing through the woods.

Actually it’s not so distant. Trees and snow just do a good job of muffling the noise.

Funny thing is that people who know magic and demons and stuff are real are the ones who'd think it's fake. Shadows + fire usually means dead before they're a toddler.

Car. Right. Gotta put on a face. Get a ride out of here. Yeah.

You realize your fingers are kind of numb, and realize you’ve got blood on your claws. Wait. Claws? You’ve got to pull yourself together. You quickly crouch down and start scrubbing them with snow.

You frantically start messing around with your glamors, packing away your horns and tail and whatnot, forcing your clawed hands and feet to stop being so deadly, and generally trying not to look like a demon. The spines take some more doing to get rid of – you thought you’d have more time to figure out a glamor before you got into town! (+3 Stress: 61/103; -2 PP: 15/36)

You could leap back into the woods and hide, but then you’re stuck hoofing it to the city. You doubt there’s going to be another car coming down this podunk dirt rode any time in the next century.

The highbeams hit you dead on, and you pull your shadow back into place against the unexpected light. The car’s coming around the bend and approaching fast. No time. You’re good enough.

Reeber moves out of the way, already glamored up himself and looking like a cold, iced over German Shepard. Stupid dog, being better than you at blending in.

You take a deep breath and wave to the headlights. As the vehicle approaches, you can see that it’s a flatbed truck, but you can’t make out anything more with those headlights in your eyes.

The truck rumbles to a stop about thirty feet off, and a door opens. You can’t really see anything more than the vague outline of the driver as he steps out. The only sound is that of the engine. You feel his eyes on you more than you can see them, and you feel incredibly out of place.

More people than Landmasters can see landwells. Druids, for one. Sorcerers of sufficient power or training for another. Still not a good idea, though. We look crazy if he's not in the know and we're a potential hostile if he is.

You figure it’s best to tell the truth, even if it’s not the truth he may be talking about. “I’m Sierra,” you say. Then you lay a hand on Reeber’s head. “And this is Reeber. And... where are we, exactly?”

Your ring ceases its buzzing, and there’s a pause. “Nowhere in particular,” he replies, “but you’re about fifteen miles out from town.”

“Really,” you say, feigning surprise.

The guy can almost feel the puzzlement coming from him. “You’re not from around here.” It’s more a statement of truth than a question.

You frown and shiver. “Yeah, no.”

"You've got blood on your face," he adds.

"Uh. I do?"

There’s another pause. “Okay," he says, sounding exasperated, "why don't you get in the truck before you freeze to death.”

Something about his unwillingness to have you along seems genuine. His offer is legit.

“Well?” he asks.

“Right,” you say, rooting yourself out from your position and walking over. He climbs back into the truck, and you walk out of the headlights’ spotlight, and come up to the icy passenger-side door. The vehicle’s a piece of junk, with patchy bodywork and scratched paint.

You wrench open the door, and it makes an unpleasant grinding sound.

The driver catches your expression at the noise. “That’s normal,” the driver informs you, his voice unnecessarily firm.

More attention grabbing than grinding sounds, however, the interior of the truck is all warm and cozy. Guy’s got the heater blasting.

Reeber runs up behind you, eager to get in. But given that there’s not enough room in the front seat for you and a dog, you need to get him in the back. You start looking for a button or something to move the seat so Reeber can get in.

“The handle’s on the back,” the stranger tells you, leaning over and pulling the chair over before you get a chance.

Reeber jumps up and into the back, and the stranger puts the chair back up for you before pulling back.

You climb in and shut the door behind you, noting the minute presence of beef jerky and pine scented air fresheners.

You glance over at the driver, and find him glancing over at you.

He’s probably around your age, not much older. He’s decked out in a heavy winter coat, with tough boots, beaten up jeans, and a fur hat. His expression is dour, and you can feel a sense of guarded wariness coming from him. Also, you can tell he’s loaded with power. Idle magic radiates from him, suffusing the truck’s cabin. (Fur hat guy: 48 PP)

He idly drums his gloved hands on the steering wheel for a moment, before throwing the car into gear and pulling off a u-turn. “What happened to your shoes?” he asks, not looking at you.

You look down at your frozen feet, cold and burning at the same time.

“Lost the shoes,” you reply.

He slows down and shifts to a lower gear as you drive over a rough patch of road with particularly deep snow. “What were you out there for?”

“It’s a long story,” you say.

“You’re in luck. I like long stories,” he says without humor.

“Fine. I was doing some interplanar crap, stuff got dodgy, lost the shoes, wound up... here,” you say, sounding more tired than you are. “Where is here? The states, sure, but which state?"

The fur-hatted driver looks over at you, a little less on guard now that you’ve admitted to magical shenanigans. “Which province,” he corrects you. “You’re in British Columbia.

British Columbia? Provinces? Oh no. “This some wacky alternate dimension?” you ask, feeling fed up with the situation. “This the proud UPA or something?”

The guy is silent for a long time. “No,” he finally answers, “this is Canada.”

You shrink back within yourself, an uncomfortable heat burning your face. (+2 Stress: 63/103) "So... do you have a phone I could borrow? I uh. I don't have service out here."

"I've got a cell in the glove compartment," he says.

You fiddle with the thing, and pop it open. An avalanche of maps come falling out into your lap.

Fur hat guy's attention remains adamantly fixed on the road. "Just throw it to the side. I'll clean it up later," he says.

Awkwardly, you collect the maps, toss them aside, and grab the phone off the floor where it fell. It's an ultra-old flip phone deal.

You turn on the phone, and get out your phone so you can dial in the number. You’re no good at remembering these things off the top of your head. You punch in the digits, and bring the phone up, scowling at its iciness as it rings.

“Hello?” says Rowan.

“It’s me,” you say. You feel a wave of relief at hearing her voice. (-4 Stress: 59/103)

“Sierra! Thank goodness! Are you alright? Where are you?”

“Uh. Canada, apparently?” you reply. “I’m getting a ride from uh.” You look over at Mr. fur hat.

“My name’s Roger,” he supplies.

“Roger,” you finish. “Is everything okay on your end?”

“Yes, it’s fine, we’re all fine,” Rowan replies. “Even Scott’s fine.”

“That’s a shame. He shouldn’t have been pointing guns at you.”

“Don’t be like that,” she chides. “We didn’t know what happened. The last thing I saw was that thing coming at you, and when we got back, you and Reeber were gone.”

“Well, it’s probably Harvey’s fault I’m okay. I’d have got my guts ripped out, but his magic chainmail kind of stopped the whole Zorr thing short,” you say.

You can tell Roger the Canadian is eavesdropping hardcore, even if he’s pretending to focus on the road. At least he has manners to look like he’s minding his own business, you guess. Not like there’s any choice crammed into a truck with him.

“I’m so glad you’re okay,” says Rowan, still sounding worried. “I was so worried something horrible happened again.”

“Well, I’m fine, so quit it,” you order.

You hear sounds in the background. “Sierra, I have to go – can I call you on this number?”

“I guess.”

“All right, let me talk to Mom and Dad. Do you know where you are exactly?”

Roger answers before you ask him anything. “William’s Lake,” he says.
>>

Well, given how lax the police are about weed up here...

“William’s Lake,” you repeat.

“All right, William’s Lake, got it. We’ll figure something out, all right?”

You nod. “Cool.”

“All right, talk to you soon! Bye!”

“See ya,” you say, hanging up.

You drive on in silence for a moment. Dark trees roll by on either side of the white road.

“That sounded like it went well,” Roger comments.

You nod. “Yep.” You turn to examine your chauffer a little more closely. Though the winter stuff definitely adds some bulk, you get the impression he’s pretty tough. But under that, you feel a vaguely strange and odd vibe coming from the guy. Like something’s not quite right about him.

“So where are we going?” you ask.

“This leads to the main road in about a mile,” says Roger, pointing ahead through the gloom. “My house is about another mile north up the main road.”

You squint at him. “Your house.”

“Just for the night, eh?” he says flatly. “My mom doesn’t care, and everything else in town shut down hours ago. I could drop you off at the sheriff’s if you like. It’s no skin off my back.”

With you looking like you do right now? That might not be such a good idea.

You shrug. “I don’t care if you don’t care,” you say.

Roger focuses on driving for a while, until you eventually come out onto the road. It’s a rinky two-way deal, mostly covered in snow, with no streetlights in sight. Roger pulls haphazardly onto the road, without much care for which side he’s on.

“Dark out,” you say.

He nods. “Gets darker,” he says.

You snort. “But. Anyway, thanks for the ride, I guess,” you say.

“It’s not a big deal,” replies Roger, dismissively.

You compose your thoughts for a little bit. While a Canadian, the guy next to you is probably in the top five most powerful people you’ve ever stumbled across, at least in terms of raw power quotas. Some people are more efficient with what they have than others, but that doesn’t make it less conspicuous. “So,” you say, drawing out the word, “what’s up with all the magic? Only a couple people I’ve met with in the same ballpark, and one was a douche snake demon lady and the other was a douche four armed angel.”

“You run into angels and demons a lot?” he asks.

“I run into a lot of things,” you say, vaguely. “You a landmaster or what? That was your landwell back there, right?”

He shrugs. “It’s complicated,” he says, “but yeah. My landwell.”

Ha! You knew it.

Roger looks over at you. “Haven’t met many landmasters myself,” he says. You feel a minor tone of curiosity in his aura, if not his voice.

>You’re not missing out. Lot’s of drama.
>What landmasters have you met?
>Well, nice to meet you then, I guess. (Maybe tell him a little bit about yourself)
>Me neither. Thought you’d be pissed about trespassing or some crap.

Just a thought, but have we EVER ran into anyone with less than full PP?
>>

Yes. First time we met Xath and Xan, they were at zero PP.

Just to be fair my turf's down south in Cali. I won't poach yours if you don't nick mine.

I'm not sure we brought our passport.

Jayzuz, it's actually labelled with heavy armour... and ZORR still took it to pieces.

We'd've been right proper fucked if we actually tried to fight the thing, wouldn't we've?

Still need a passport to cross typically unless we're just gonna walk/ride bears across.

"Coming soon to a plane near you, it's ZORR WARS! Come on down to the local landwell to watch in amazement as the titanic titanium terrors duke it out mano e mano! And as a bonus, if you get hit by a flying piece of machine and are still able to walk afterwards, you get to take it home FREE!"
>>
>>39493109

Walking/riding bears across is actually illegal if you don't check in at a border crossing, which requires a passport. So we'd need one anyways.
>>
>>39493220
It is only illegal if we're caught, and a wervelken is not caught easily.
>>
>>39493163
>It’s difficult identify the specifics behind its form, except for its massive iron ribcage and the partially caved in skull.
>>
>>39493220
Do we really care about legality with regards to illegally crossing the Canadian border? The only real issue is whether or not we get caught and whether or not we can make the problems go away if we do. Besides, our existence is illegal. We're supposed to go register on those demon list things and well just fuck that ain't gonna do it.
>>
>>39493269

So something donked it on the head rather hard, then. Maybe some kind of explosive?

...how big was the clearing again?
>>
>>39493220
family drives north, takes us near the border, we walk across at night time. Border security is loose enough that it really wouldnt be that hard to cross if Sierra far enough from a road.
>>
>>39493220
If a mortal Canadian border guard can catch Sierra, a shadow demon, at the Canadian border, then he deserves some kind of fucking medal.

“Me neither. Thought you’d be pissed about trespassing or some crap,” you say.

“I usually give people the benefit of the doubt,” Roger replies. “Life is complicated.”

“Amen to that. Well, guess it’s nice to meet you, then,” you say. “To be fair, I’m down south in the Bay Area. Y’know. California and all that. I won’t poach your wells if you don’t steal mine. But it’s cool if you don’t want to talk about that kind of thing.”

“No, it usually comes up,” he replies. “I go down to Vancouver. Anything south of that you find is fair game.”

So. Pretty much everything, as far as you’re concerned. “Good to know,” you reply.

After another few minutes of driving, Roger pulls in at another little side road, though this one is broader and coated in gravel. “We’re at the end,” he explains, perhaps unnecessarily.

As promised, you eventually pull up outside a large house, though it looks kind of old and dingy, like nobody’s really taken much effort to take care of the place. There’s a garage, and next to it a bunch of random boating equipment partly buried in the snow. The forest seems to crowd in around the place, as if unaware that people live here.

You have a sneaking suspicion you’re just parked on the front lawn, but with the snow, it’s impossible to say for sure. Roger grabs the handle to exit, and delivers a hard kick to his door to pop it open.

You try your door once, but find it locked in place. Well. When in Canada.
>>
>>39492442

Mimicking Roger’s effort, you kick your own way out of your own door. Reeber, meanwhile, is still trapped in the back. You begin an effort to locate the latch thing that makes the door pop down, but before you can make much headway, Roger comes around, leans over, and frees the hound.

Reeber leaps out past the both of you, lands in the snow, and starts running around.

“Friendly dog,” says Roger. He turns and walks up toward his house. “Why’d you name him Reeber?”

>I don’t know, that’s just his name.

Seeing as Step of the Aether can make Sierra much lighter than usual for the purposes of jumping, that mean she can do Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon levels of wirefu bullshit, yes?
