In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of the thousands of Imperial provinces that form the front line in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But the Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commissioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes, finest warriors Humanity has ever seen, to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution and this is their tale.

Ave, brother. I am afraid Chapter creation labs are down the corridor C22, this sector is dedicated to the operations of Ghosts of Retribution, which have been operating for decades. However you are welcome to join if you are not afraid of the darkness and eager to serve the Emperor.

How shall we call you?

+++

Meanwhile, somewhere on the planet of Artoria, Chapter Master is standing over the body of his bleeding brother, Renard. Wound inflicted by Traitor was bad, but it seems that he'll live long enough for Chapter Apothecaries to save him. Sulix puts his hand on your shoulder:
>Milord, enemies are still at large. Shall we enter the temple again?
Down below you is a complex of tunnels, built by the Traitors and their foul cultist companions who worship the Rotting God, Grandfather Nurgle. Your first attempt to enter almost ended in the death of your bodyguard, how shall you proceed this time?

+++

Give instructions and roll d100. Temple tunnels are wide enough for 2 Space Marines or 1 Terminator to enter.

At your disposal:
10 Sternguard Veterans
5 Terminators
10 Battle Brothers
4 Predator Tanks
>>
>>39471928
I want a terminator at the front with a heavy flamer and a boarding shield.
If we have no boarding shields grab a piece of masonry or something.

Couple more terminators behind him, then CM, Sulix and Sternguard along with an Apothecary in the middle.

Y/N?

Also:

Construct Level 2 Gold Mine on Varda = 150w. 2d3 yrs build time.
Upgrade fuel mine to level 2 = 75w. d3 yrs
Construct Refinery = 200w, d5+1 build time

Total cost = 425w, and whichever is longest of d3, 2d3 and d5+1 rolls in build time.

Can we use that ~120w worth of construction materials that were on the transport from battlefleet paxia to reduce the cost?

When constructed these will give us a cybernetics industry worth 75+3d10 wealth per year.

Gift the human-sized Deimos Predator we bought off Kerr to Nestorium. At the same time request techpriests to provide the expertise we need to make the cybernetics, and also ask if they want to be the ones to buy the cybernetics.

Daveron is a seasoned veteran, he earned his right to wear Terminator Armour on the battlefields of Mormark and Varda... He entered the tunnels armed with a contruction beam and a flamer, prepared for anything. The first few corridors were quiet, then Daveron entered a big circular room. Suddenly, his auspex came to life, indicating 14 lifeforms at 11 o'clock, approaching rapidly in a swarm.
>Nurglings...
Daveron had never met these fiends in battle, but his battle drills trained him to expect such enemies when faced with followers of Nurgle. Those small rotting creatures rolled out from one of the side tunnels and charged at Daveron, but he unleashed a wall of flame on them. His brothers, also wearing Terminator armour, Hakon and Fengast, entered the fray at his sides. They were real blood-brothers hailing from Mormark, one of the first recruits Ghosts of Retribution accepted from that world. Still young, but eager to prove themselves, they ripped those few Nurglings that escaped flamer with their precise stormbolter fire.

As your marines go deeper into the tunnels, you realise that by now you are deep enough to actually reach the level of the dead who were burried here centuries ago after the wars with Xo'nad. The very name of the planet, Artoria, immortalised the name of Lord Commander Artorion, general who once fought for the Saint Belisarius. Battles on planet Krak'tharilla, later renamed after the general who conquered it, were one of the worst, and because of the potential for colonisation Artorion refused to authorise orbital strikes, rather preferring to seize it from the aliens for the benefit of Mankind. As you pass alien and human skulls alike, all mixed in a horrible mass grave, wall on the left side bursts as a Traitor appears waving a power axe. He shrieks and cuts Daveron's steel beam in half with a single blow, disruptive power field slices metal like butter, however that single second of delay is enough for Hakon to open fire at the Traitor, hitting him between the eyes. while first two bolts failed to penetrate enforced ancient power armour, only damaging it, third one entered deep enough to crack weakened adamantium plating and burn out Traitor's brains. His brainless body continued to wave his axe for a few more seconds, but even unnatural vitality of a Nurgle worshiper couldn't sustain a body without a brain. Behind his corpse you notice that the tunnel appears open into a huge hall.

Daveron always knew that his duty will one day demand him to face Traitors. He knew they were dangerous enemies, Astartes who have centuries of experience of fighting and whose bodies are enhanced by the dark magics. However he never realised what price they needed to pay for that...

As you enter the last hall, first thing you notice is a mutated, twisted chunk of flesh lying in the center of some strange ritual circle. Shards of space marine power armour indicated that this once was a member of the warband, possibly a Chaos Chosen or maybe even a minor Sorcerer, who clearly asked for more gifts from the Nurgle than he could handle. However with his keen eye Daveron observed that there's too little flesh left...

At that instant, 4 warp spawns jumped Daveron and his brothers from the shadows. Auspexes remained silent, but Chapter Master's shout warned his brothers before any of the daemonspawn managed to reach them. Flamer and stormbolters made a short work of them and within moments all of them were dead.

Your party finds themselves standing in a room that was clearly dug inside a mass grave for some dark ritual. Skulls stare at you from the walls and you get a bad feeling in your guts. Suddenly, you hear screams from the tunnel behind you.

What shall you do?

As your brothers dodge, most of the corrosive liquid splatters on the walls, eating deep into them, however a big part of it covers Fengast. His Terminator armour starts melting under the corrosive influence of tainted warp-fluid... Terminator armour is too thick to be affected even by something as foul as this, however it will be damaged, possibly forever. Meanwhile the rest of the liquid hit brother Gavin, it melts straight through his eye-slits and other weaker parts of the armour, especially where armour plates connect, such as joints. He screams like a child, babbling something and collapsing in front of you. By the time Neiton arrived, he was almost dead.
>He's wounded beyond any value to the Chapter. I can save him to be a blind, deaf, limbless cripple for the rest of his days or possibly I can prepare him to rest in the Dreadnought sarcophagus if that's what you wish. Alternatively there's always Emperor's Mercy. What do you want me to do?

The defence of Artoria ended for the Ghosts of Retribution as an astounding success, never seen before. The evil plans of the Ebon Host were foiled and planet survived the assault with minimal casualties. Not a single loyalist Space Marine perished and no ships were lost in the space battle above the planet.

Newly reformed government of Artoria thanked Chapter Master and offered a tribute of 10 Wealth a year for a decade as their show of gratitude. Furthermore, your swift defence of even minor worlds in the Sector attracted the attention of the High Lords of Terra, you gain +1 Favour with them. Even Larion Ursus himself sends you his personal regards and declared in the Capitolis Sectorum that his most faithful vassals have achieved a great victory.

As for the remains of the destroyed Heavy Cruiser - there still are signs of life on it, but whether you'll decide to destroy it or salvage the hulk, remains up to you.

Session over, next session - new year, end of sternberg's mission, reply from eisenhorn and other interesting stuff.
