>Hopefully that made it worth it?
>Pull John aside, see how mad he is.
You stretch, more than satisfied, “Hopefully that made it worth it?”

Summer nods slowly, “Yeah, I really should have skipped lunch.”

“Look at it this way,” Beth says yawning, “Now you can fall asleep with that still on your mind.”

“I’d have to drive home first,” Summer points out, “Not sure I want to move from this chair.”

“They’re not a good place to sleep,” your dad states, “Leaves a crick in your back if you sit here too long.”

Summer frowns at this, as she considers moving once more.

You stand up with a sigh, “I’m going to get some fresh air and clean the grill while I’m at it,” you start sluggishly moving for the back door.

Your action breaks everyone’s sloth as your mother starts picking up dishes, Shadow Alex helping her with lazy movements while Beth and Kat head for the living room. Summer’s a bit slower on the uptake but she follows after them and sitting down on the couch, you swear she becomes one with it; John and your father are the last to move, the former following after you, and the latter heading for the front door.

“I’ll be back in a bit, gotta grab somethings,” your father explains to your mom as he passes by the kitchen.

“Drive safe,” you hear her say as you open up the back.

John closes the back door after him, “Why didn’t you give me a heads up?” he sounds irritated, “Actually did you do this to set us up?”

>Nah, I owed Summer a favor and I hadn’t hung out in a while.

“Nah,” you wave of his accusations, “I owed Summer a favor and I hadn’t hung out with you in a while; figured I’d kill two birds with one stone yeah?”

John sucks on his teeth, “Why didn’t you tell me then? After I just asked you not to do this shit.”

“You asked not to play matchmaker,” you remind him, “Really though, I don’t know man. I figured you might be more chill with it.”

“Maybe I am overreacting, if thats all there is too it,” John admits with a sigh,”Still though next time at least give me a heads up?”

“When?” you ask, “Before or after I’ve conned you into coming over?”

“Conned?” John grumbles, “Its not that hard to get me over here.”

“It can be,” you work on a particularly stubborn part, “Still didn’t answer the question though.”

“I’m thinking on it,” John sighs, “I guess after? I think I’d be too suspicious to come over after that.”

You suppress a laugh, “See? What you’re telling me is I did it mostly right, at least you had a couple hours before you got mad.”

“Look man, at least give me enough time to bail if that comes to bear,” John runs a hand through his hair.

“I’ll think about it,” you assure him, checking to make sure everythings clean.

“If you do this again I’ll start getting wary of your invitations, wondering where you’ve laid traps,” he warns, as both of you head for the back door; pausing just before it.

“Yo, I’m just saying if someone trapped me Summer I don’t think anger would be my response,” you shrug, opening the door only to see that Beth, Kat, and Summer all are relaxing on the furniture.

Kat’s sneaking glances at Summer’s chest when she thinks Summer isn’t paying attention; Summer is soaking up the attention while Beth sighs at this.

You glance between everyone, and spot Shadow Alex coming out of the kitchen. Idly you realize you’ve got several too many to play this anymore, granted you could always hand off the controller; you aren’t adverse to it.

You might also be able to convince people to go out for a walk or something, though John might bounce at that… Summer might also when you recall how she latched onto Anna.

“Good to see nothing exploded while I was gone,” you sit in between Beth and Summer, a quick glance around shows available seats are running out.

“Why was that even a concern?” Summer asks suspiciously, as she moves over to make room for John, “Has something like that happened before.”

“Nah, but all things considered, I wouldn’t rule it out of the realm of possibilities,” You reassure her as Shadow Alex sits on the floor, leaning against you.

“I’m sure its possible,” Beth gives you an amused look as she scoots closer, making herself comfortable against you, “But so is a lot of things that won’t ever happen.”

You shrug, jostling her as you do so, “Well whatever, I guess we’ll hand off controllers?”

Summer hums, “Nah its fine, I’m good with watching,” she glances at John who’s entered in this awkward silence.

“Suit yourself,” Beth says, “Less waiting is always good with me.”

John lets out a sigh, as he reaches for a controller.

Kat already has a controller, and watches as everyone piles onto the couch with a bit of longing, as she sits on the loveseat alone, her ears flat against her head.

“Come on, it's easier to see the TV over here,” you wave her over, as Shadow Alex grabs two controllers from the coffee table, handing one to Beth and calling dibs on the other.

“There’s no room though,” Kat says sadly, eyes roaming over all of you.

“Sure there is, I mean it might not be as comfortable as that but you could always sit next to Shadow Alex,” you gesture to her, “Plus it’d make it easier to hand off the controllers.”

Kat bites her lip, before quickly giving in, Shadow Alex scooting to the side giving her room; she happily takes a seat leaning against you and Summer for her back support. Everyone gets comfortable, and the game resumes.

You watch with Summer, as they bumble through the game; John’s doing worse than usual and a glance to your side reveals why. He keeps glancing to Summer who’s making the best of a situation as she adjusts her skin tight T-shirt, and making it hard to not notice while she does it.

John does his best to focus on the game, but despite his stoic attempts fails here or there. You can’t help but smile, and wonder if you’ll catch flak for that later. It takes maybe five minutes of this before they complete the level, Shadow Alex hands off the controller to you.

This continues for about an hour, before Beth glances at the clock, “I probably should head home, it’s getting to be about that time.”

“Yeah, I guess it is,” you realize its nearly 9pm.

“You mind giving me a ride home?” John asks as he starts packing his things up, having been at the end of a mission anyways.

“Yeah, just hurry up, I kind of waited too long to leave,” Beth says with a bit of urgency.

“What do you have a time limit?” John asks as he finishes packing, only having needed two controllers and the games.

“I’m in that weird sort of grounded state, where you just have to come home early,” Beth explains with a touch of irritation.

“How’d you manage that?” John asks as you stand up and stretch, Kat and Shadow Alex moving out of the way.

“I guess I’ll tell you on the way home,” Beth hesitates, “It’s a bit of a long story.”

John gives her an odd look before turning to you, “I guess I’ll see you later, peace Alex.”

“Yeah, keep in touch. I’ve been better about responding lately,” you shrug as if its no big deal.

“It’s more that I’ve been keeping onto the phone and telling you when it goes off,” Shadow Alex points out.

“So we cheat a little, the end results mostly the same,” you give a wide smile.

“I guess I probably should bounce as well,” Summer says as you all make for the front door, “Since everyone else is clearing out.”

“Ah, yeah, it’s probably for the best,” you agree, “Don’t hesitate to give me a call if you need help yeah? I really appreciate what you did.”

Summer smiles as she pauses at the door, “Sure, I’ll keep it in mind. It’s been fun, we should hang out more.”

“It was nice seeing you again, Summer,” John says after a moment.

“I don’t mind you seeing more of me,” Summer says with a teasing smile before making an escape, pausing just long enough to see Johns stunned face.

Beth laughs, “Well with that out of the way,” she pulls you into a hug, letting out a happy sigh as she does so, “I’ll see you later Alex.”

You embrace her, wrapping your arms around her waist, “Drive safe, alright?”

“Yeah,” Beth gently laughs, “Seriously though I’ll probably have to speed a bit to make it now.”

You reluctantly let her go, as Kat comes up and takes your place, “Bye, Beth.”

She’s a bit surprised by Kat’s hug but returns it with a warm smile, “See you later too Kat.”

John recovers finally, and mutters under his breath as he walks out into the summer heat, “I can’t tell if she’s just teasing me or serious.”

Beth follows after him, “Probably both.”

“Thats… worse,” John says just loud enough for you to hear as a car door close.

You shut the front door, glancing to a bored looking Shadow Alex, and a content looking Kat.

It’s about 10minutes shy of 9PM, you could go out and do something. That said, your Dad probably returned at some point with allowance.

“Ah, okay... “ she gives a small smile, “I’ll probably go pick up where I left off.”

“I figured,” you nod, watching Shadow Alex already running off to find your Dad, “I’ll come along, since its my half anyways.”

“Well, yeah,” you agree as she opens up the office to find him leaning back in his chair with a comfortable smile on his face. Music is playing, though not too loudly, as he relaxes there; you think he’s listening to stuff from the 70’s but you haven’t really heard anything too defining yet.

As both you and Shadow Alex step in he turns down the music and starts to get an excited smile that he quickly tries to hide, “What did you two get in a fight or something?”

You furrow your brow at that as, Shadow Alex asks with a laugh, “Did you seriously get excited about having to break up a fight between your daughters?”

“I can hardly call myself a proper father without having to do it once,” your Dad complains, “Seriously could you two just go get in a fight and then come back?”

“Couldn’t you brag you did a good enough job at parenting that you didn’t have to break up a fight?” you sit in the chair across from his desk, Shadow Alex doing the same with the other.

“Not the same,” he shakes his head, “Its like comparing a bronze medal to a gold, prevention is pretty good breaking it up quickly is best.”

You open your mouth to say something before shaking your head, “Alright, if you say so… not to jump topics or anything, but did you ever get the allowance money?”

He shakes his head with a sigh, “I did, but when I came back you were playing games with your friends.”

“I figured as much,” you say, nodding.

“Yes, yes you can,” your Dad shifts to the side as he pulls out his wall and fishes enough bills out before handing it to Shadow Alex, “You should come to me for things other than this as well.”

Shadow Alex nearly snatches it from his hands before quickly giving it a count, “Thanks Dad!”

You lean close and quietly say, “Yeah but we probably could fake it, I mean he needs his reputation as a father right?”

“I don’t think I’d be good at faking it,” Shadow Alex whispers back to you as she closes the other half of the distance.

“Hmm, actually yeah, what sort of magic can you do?” you ask, curious.

Your dad chuckles, “Well, I’m surprised that didn’t happen sooner,” he leans back in his chair, “Hmm, I guess the easiest way to word it would be..” he frowns and tilts his head, “I have a highly offensive skill set, most of its really flashy like a laser or your usual set of fire spells. Some not so much?”

He shrugs, “Mages aren’t limited to an element like magical girl, its more each person gets a skillset and can apply themes to it… though there are some things that can be taught to others, such as wards or basic self defense.”

“So then what’s your job exactly?” you wonder aloud.

“I am the problem solver,” your father shrugs, “When things get to looking nasty or a mage has lost his mind for whatever reason,” he makes a vague gesture, “They call people like me in to solve it.”

“Solve it is pretty vague,” Shadow Alex points out, as she shifts in her chair.

“So was the general job description, there’s a lot of different things I get called for,” your dad sighs, “Like cleaning up the aftermath of that Fallen God and the excess energy she didn’t use dispersing back out.”

“Ahhhh,” you say in realization, “Okay, yeah. That makes sense… why didn’t they just call magical girls to solve it, like the god?”
1/3?
>>
>>39460224

“They’ve been handling it mostly, but not fast enough sometimes,” he explains, “Most of the time its a pretty easy job, just when things start breaking everything goes to hell.”

“So what about me then?” you glance to Shadow Alex, “Well us really, and the whole maybe having a magical core?”

“What about it?” your father asks, “I mean you already sort of had one through the contract.”

“Is there any way to check without being subjected to training and or becoming a test subject?” you run a hand through your hair, “I mean the way mom was saying I’m pretty fucked no matter how the cake is cut.”

“You could try to cast magic with it,” your father suggests, “If its there you’ll feel a bit more tired after using it, don’t sweat the details about it though.”

“What do you mean don’t sweat the details?” Shadow Alex asks, tilting her head in curiosity.

“Your mother probably mention it could be a few things, right?” you confirm his question with a nod, “Well look, no matter the result you’re still you, just don’t let that go and everything’ll be fine.”

“Thats pretty vague, dad,” you say with a sigh, “But I think I get the gist of it, just don’t get lost in it?”

“Pretty much,” he confirms with a smile.

As you think about that, Shadow Alex asks, “Did you use to be a girl, dad?”

Your Dad freezes for a moment, his face blank before he seems to restart. Meanwhile you glance over at Shadow Alex with a bit of surprise followed by, a growing smile, “That was left field.”

>>

“Yo, don’t tell me you haven’t wondered before too, I mean look at how they make us go back and forth to ask the other questions,” Shadow Alex huffs, “There’s secrets for days.”

“Yeah that is pretty annoying,” you agree, with a sigh, “But still why if he was a girl before?”

Shadow Alex raises an eyebrow at you, and grabs your chest for emphasis, “Really?”

“... Like father like son?” You say glance back to your dad with a furrowed brow, filled with just enough doubt, “Were you?”

“Nooo, of course not Alex,” your dad shakes his head, “Seriously what the hell kind of question is that?”

“... I can’t tell if you are purposefully acting suspicious or not,” you say after a moment of staring him down.

“I’m not acting suspicious,” he says, a bit more composed and a small small on his face.

You watch him for a bit more, before sighing, not certain what to think, “Right, how’d you and mom meet?” you ask, catching him by surprise again, “You know since we are playing the left field questions now.”

“We were classmates, throughout high school, every year we shared a class through one way or another, after the first we kind of just became friends and when she got a change or two… well things happened,” your dad smiles, “Thats the gist of it anyways.”

“Things happened huh?” You and Shadow Alex say almost in unison, “And that was it?”

“Mostly yeah,” your dad says after a moment, “I mean there’s a lot more details, but yeah basically.”

He stands up, and you pull away to let him; Shadow Alex comes around from the other side and both of you give him a hug that he returns, “It’s what I do, if you ever need help you can alway ask me.”

“Yeah, I will, and uh don’t worry,” you say pulling away from him, grinning and watching confusion roll over his face.

“Worry about what Alex?” he asks as you make your way towards the door.

You shrug, pausing just long enough for Shadow Alex to catch up, “Your secret is safe with us.”

His brow knits together, before his eyes widen in realization, “Wait! There’s no secret to be safe!”

“Right, I get it,” Shadow Alex says, laying on the sarcasm a bit heavy, “No secret to keep, and none to tell. Don’t sweat it, Dad.”

He starts to say something else before giving up, “I’ve been married to your mother long enough to know when to stop… most of the time,” he shakes his head before taking a seat, “Take care of yourselves and have a good night.”

“Night Dad,” both of you say in an almost smug tone, you close the door to the office as you leave and take a look at the time. You’re a little surprised to see practically an hour passed in the time you were in there, seeing as its 9:50 now.

Once before, but I was beyond the point of driving anyway. When I finally did get up and start getting ready for work I fell in the shower, down the stairs, and then drove very carefully to work.

Only to be sent back home because I was a safety hazard. Thats about when they put me on permanent leave.

So, have any of you given thought that we can't stay a girl forever, its eventually going to get grating and once the summer ends it will cause a myriad of complications. Also it sounds cooler to be a mage or a wizard than a magical girl.

Honestly I get those feels, prior to QMing I kept up with a lot of quests, I've fallen behind in recent times but they helped me through difficult times as this does now.

That however does not change the fact that I am grateful, yeah?

Anyways, done eating; now writing.
>>
>>39470490
Yeah, it's kinda scary in a way. Shows just how unpredictable the magical world really is.

>>39470415
Eh. While dealing with the complications of being a girl was the primary reason why Alex contracted into the magic biz, at this point permanently becoming male again would also cause problems as well.

That said, we absolutely do need to acquire a solution for dealing with the end of summer. Saving up cores to wish for "an aura of normal change", as Summer called it, seems to be the most popular option, if only because she said it was relatively cheap. There are other options, of course, but they generally seem to be more expensive, less effective, or chancy / risky / a shot in the dark.
>>
>>39471488
Also, pretty sure Dad just confirmed that we can become a mage by simply practicing and working out our power source, so once we have our "Normality Field" we should be fine to drop the magic girl contract and become a mage, or keep the contract for more wishes and train ourselves little by little.
>>
So we're gonna try our damnest to find a picture of dad when he was our age right? Then compare it to us now right?
>>
>>39471260
thats nice to hear, thank you
Those feelings are mostly because I've known both sides good enough

>>39471362
Was mostly referring to you feeling embarassed, though it's always a good feeling making someone embarassed, hehe
>>
It's so interesting to me, the micro-communities that gather around different quests. How a little slice of life/action-adventure quest with a chill QM and relaxed update times can find a group of 5-10 active posters/voters and probably as many lurkers, and become some funny little abomination of a social circle. It's one of the main reasons I like the quests I do, because of the people, whether it's the QM, of the players, of both.

What I guess I'm trying to say is thank you Hap, but also, thank you anons, for making me laugh, making me smile, and just being decent people.

Wow, that got emotional quick, uhhhh, back to lurking then.
>>
I'm okay with having this turned into a thread of feelz and d'aaawwww
No Regrets

Fixed that for you anon.

And it should be pointed out, these aren't any normal feels, these are meta-feels, the very best kind.

>Go see the newly addicted Kat.

You hum as you head for your bedroom, wondering if you’ve made Kat effectively into a NEET.

“We may have done something awful,” Shadow Alex says with an amused smile, “It’s a shame we didn’t get her addicted to us.”

“Hey now, she might just be really interested in whats effectively new to her,” you say more out of hope than actual belief.

“Uhuh,” Shadow Alex’s tone thick with disbelief and a touch of sarcasm.

“Well at least one of us has to try to believe,” you shrug as you open your door to see Kat has managed to make it to the final boss, shes got a serious concentrated air about her as she sits on the edge of the seat; ears flat against her head.

She doesn’t even notice the door opening and closing as both you and Shadow Alex take a seat on the bed, watching her struggle. She’s got a bit of crunch time going on, as shes nearly out of health, though it looks like she’s figured out the bosses moveset and is navigating around it carefully, attacking only when the chance is given.

It’s a slow process, maybe ten minutes due to how careful she is being with it, but she comes out with a victory. Kat lets out a cry of happiness as she collapse back into the chair relaxing finally as the credits start to roll, you can see her tail twitching happily.

“Good job,” you say a feeling of pride welling up in your chest.

>>
>>39472621

Kat practically jumps out of the chair, hair raised on end making her tail poof up, “W-wha- when did you get here?” she asks wide eyed.

“Maybe halfway through the fight?” Shadow Alex answers with barely contained mirth.

“I didn’t hear…” Kat swallows, glancing back to the computer and then to the door, “Was I really that distracted..?”

“Yeah, but its not really surprising,” you ruffle her hair, helping her relax after that shock.

Kat closes her eyes and soaks up the attention, a content smile on her face.

You reach up with your other hand, gently brushing her short hair, you marvel at comforting this feels; something thats only compounded as she begins purring and leans her head against your stomach and melts against you.

Its only when she starts to fall out of the chair that you stop, the credits long since finished rolling as you listen to the looping menu music, “Here, let me show you another game; this one has saving though so you can stop whenever.”

Kat looks curious as you load it up, “It’s similar to what you just beat but is still worlds different,” you explain showing her a fast paced action adventure game, “The major difference is character progression, save progress, and third person perspective. It’s a bit awkward to get used to at first, especially after brawlers but the basic idea is the same.”

She listens and watches carefully as you go through the menu’s showing her where to find what and explain the level up system to her. When you finish explaining the gist of things, you let her start playing.

You make yourself comfortable on the bed with an easy view and feel Shadow Alex slide up behind you, her soft breasts pressing into your back as she wraps her hands around your stomach. With a happy sigh she pulls you closer, your form fitting against hers; your expectations of molestation are betrayed as she just enjoys your proximity.

You reach down and place a hand over hers, content to stay like this; Kat plays for a little longer, progressing a few stages and asking questions about the game. It’s with a yawn that she closes out of the game after making sure it saved three different times.

She shuts off the computer and lights before kicking off her shoes and her clothes, sleepily climbing into bed with you, snuggling up to your front wearing only her collar. Her arms wrap around you as she settles down.

You hold onto her, gently rubbing circles into her back as all three of you drift off to sleep, overwhelmingly content…

You open your eyes, and find yourself in Shadow Alex’s room, you glance towards the bed to find she’s sleeping soundly with Kat in a similar shape next to her. Theres a you sized space in between them though.

You almost go back and join them, but a bit of curiosity strikes you. It’s the first time you’ve been in Shadow Alex’s room without her being awake, you almost want to take the chance to explore or even prod at things.

Though it would be kind of like an invasion of privacy… to your other self? You briefly wonder how that one even works if at all. You glance back to the door and then the closet and realize you’ve never really messed with any of this.

>Explore a bit, a trip down nostalgia

You glance back to Kat and Alex, and decide they’ll be waiting and just as asleep by the time you’re done exploring. The room has gotten a lot bigger since you first saw it, the piles of things from your past somewhat organized now.

She seems to have at least separate things by time, as you pick out a couple things from your early childhood, like that hard plastic construction shovel that was eventually taken away from you after you filled the back yard with potholes. You vaguely remember your father being a mix of proud and irritated as he struggled to mow the lawn.

A smile forms on your face as you sift through this pile of memories, spotting a few action figures, a logic puzzle that took you forever and a half to figure, and a case of legos thankfully sealed. You cock a smile at that as Shadow Alex has written on its lid, ‘Weapons of War,’ and taped it up.

You scoot over, and continue walking down memory lane. This is where you were introduced to video games, you realize, as the SNES with a few of the games you played most, to include Zelda and Donkey Kong. You remember your father had played it just as much as you, showing you how and letting you learn from there, he kept that up for a while but eventually either got tired of it or got busy.
1/2
>>
>>39476230

You continue looking, curiosity growing as to what else you’ll find; you spot your old gameboy color with pokemon blue inside it, that was a lifesaver on the few trips your family went on. Theres also a couple decks of cards, each of different universes, you remember quickly going through phases asking for another deck as your friends moved on.

As you look over this you realize you were kind of spoiled; its getting quicker to look through as the pile has quickly devolved into more of a line of things. Though you do notice that objects other than games or toys start to become more common here, like a pair of jeans that were amazingly comfortable till the day they died, more than a few books, and a bean bag that exploded the last time you sat on it.

This almost feels like a museum of sorts dedicated to the things you liked most, its almost sad when you reach the end of them. Reluctantly you stand up, glancing down and wondering if they would last at all outside of this room.

You shrug, realizing it doesn’t really matter as you can always easily visit here. With a suppressed yawn, you look back to the door; you have half the mind to give it a shot… the other half is pretty okay with just going back to sleep.

You look away from the door and to the space between Alex and Kat, it looks terribly inviting and now that most of your curiosity has been sated… you find yourself climbing into bed laying down between them and sliding up to Shadow Alex.

She mumbles something unintelligible, as her hand gropes your rear. You smile, and close your eyes to drift off into sleep once more.

You have a colorful dream, one that quickly fades as you wake up again. You take a deep breath and check the time, feeling well rested. It’s 7AM, and no one else is in the bed with you.

Yeah, first quest I've run.

I have DM'd on multiple accounts for various systems, though mostly for friends.

As for ideas you have for a quest, uh hmm I'm probably not the best to throw them at since I kind of did this with only a few days of messing with dice to figure a workable system.

Past that, all of this was on a whim that was fueled by irritation that the setting had been picked up and dropped however many times before.
