You are CARLY, a prospective career criminal looking to make it big in the criminal underworld!

Currently, you had just managed to rob an armored truck, and were driving away in your getaway van with a trunk full of loot. Unfortunately, you were also being pursued by a combination of police and private security intent on getting all that stolen money back. From what you could see, you had two VTOLs and a LOT of ground vehicles on your ass.

"Damnit, we gotta get off the freeway!" Sam grunts as she tries to steer the van around traffic. "They'll catch up to us at this rate!"

"Lisa! Map! MAP!" You bark to your techie.

"R-right!" Lisa quickly brings up a holographic map of the immediate area and you scan it quickly. You immediately saw three possible routes of escape.

First, there was a residential suburb nearby. If you went in there, even the private security goons would hesitate barging, at least for a little while. It could buy you some time to get away. The only issue was shaking the air pursuit, since there wouldn't be much concealment.

Your second option was a nearby abandoned industrial complex, a relic of Old Detroit. Plenty of places to hide, but very few methods of actually getting out. There were few entrances and they were all easy to cordon off.

Your final option was to take the underground freeways. In those tunnels, it would be impossible for the VTOLs to follow you. You just had to shake the vehicle pursuit and hope to god there weren't any traffic jams today.

"Come on, I need to know where to get off!" Sam barks.

Freeway can be cut off, factories would be good but we could be easily tracked seeing as they are abandoned, our best bet is to get into the burbs and lose them in the hub bub. There is a reason why ghettos are such dens of crime IRL, police can't track people down correctly with all the day to day motion.

"Take the next exit!" You yell back. "We'll lose them in the suburbs!"

"Right!" Sam nods as she hits the brakes, swinging the van around to line up with the off ramp. Down below, you could see rows upon rows of houses laid out as far as the eye can see, with nice green lawns and white picket fences. Pretty idyllic, at least until a large armored van suddenly started barging through the streets. Behind you, you see the police cars and security SUVs immediately brake, unwilling to pursue you into a populated area. However, the two VTOLs continue their pursuit, taking a high holding pattern to keep track of your movements.

"Okay, that bought us some time, but not much." Sam grimaces as she starts randomly winding through the preplanned street layouts. As you go, you begin to attract attention as residents begin opening their doors and windows to see what all the commotion was about.

"The van's too hot. We're going to have to ditch it." Lisa grunts. "We can park it near a cluster of houses, pop some smoke, and get away by foot or in another vehicle."

WHAT ABOUT LOOT? Artya asks.

You count the number of bags you have. You could see ten fairly full duffel bags. You reckon that you could strap two onto FRAG-E, and everybody else could grab two bags each. However, that was going to be a lot of weight on everybody. Maybe you were better off taking one bag each and dumping the rest. Dad did warn that greed was the main cause of crews getting caught/killed...

Been thinking for a bit and I realized something.

We may be going to experience "The Golden Age of Heisting" quite soon.

With the coming end of the Idol Olympics and P-san's REFORMATION, the Tribunal will probably try to find a way to secure all of their assets before they can be seized, and avoid being held accountable for their misdeeds. That means they're going to try to find a way to either get as much money into secret bank accounts or hide away all of their expensive toys.

It'll be dangerous and very risky. Hell, we'll probably encounter Clover Entertainment's allies or even the Clover Combat Idols themselves (as Boss Characters) as Heisters and Idols race against the clock to secure as much property as possible.

"Just take what you can carry!" You bark. "Take a bag each, strap two to FRAG-E, and we ditch the rest."

DITCH LOOT?!?! Artya recoil in shock.

"Better to get away with some loot than get busted with all of it!" You say, tossing a bag to Artya. "We're going to need to move and move FAST. Sam, on the count of three, stop the truck and head for the nearest house. I'll suppress the VTOLs and torch the truck!"

"With the money?!" Lisa gasps.

"No loose ends." You repeat one of Dad's oft quoted mantras. You remember him telling you a story of how an entire crew got whacked because their getaway driver fucked up and didn't ditch their vehicle like he was supposed to.

Plus the fire would serve as a further distraction for the cops.

Finally, the van screeches to a halt.

"Go go go!" Sam yells as she picks up her bag and leaps out of the driver's seat. Lisa kicks the rear doors open and begins tossing smoke grenades out while Artya makes a beeline for the nearest house.

"I set the autodrive to activate in ten seconds!" Sam says as dashes past you. "That should distract them for a while!"

"Good." You nod as you set the timer on your incendiary grenade to thirty seconds and toss it into the back of van.

Overhead, you can hear the whine of VTOL engines as the craft began to lower altitude to get a better look. Big mistake, you think. That made them more vulnerable to small arms like your MG. Then again, firing at them could serve to just piss them off more. Maybe the van would serve as sufficient distraction.

You ignore the VTOLs and make a dash for the house under smoke cover. Behind you, you hear the van's engines roar to life and it rumbles forward on the street, following its preprogrammed path. You don't risk stopping to look though, and barrel your way through the open door. Once you're through, Lisa slams the door closed behind you.

Inside, you see the house's occupants, a family of three, sitting nervously on the couch as Artya keeps an eye on them. Sam is in full diplomatic mode, trying to convince them that your crew was just passing through and that they won't be hurt.

Then you hear the muffled WHUMP of an explosion and screaming as the van presumably goes up in flames.

"We need to keep moving." Lisa hisses. "This family has a minivan. I'm pretty sure I can hack it and we can drive it out."

"They might still have eyes on the area." Sam warns as she walks back. "I think we should work our way through the backyards on foot. There's enough foliage to cover our movements from the air."

"That's gonna take a while, though." Lisa grimaces.

"We'll go out by foot." You say, kicking the backdoor open. "Grab your bags and lets go!"

You all barrel out of the house. Thankfully, it looked as if everybody was still distracted by the burning van leaving the skies clear for now. However, you see that there were quite a few fences to mount. Well, would have been if it weren't for FRAG-E just plowing through the wooden barriers as if they were made of toothpicks.

"Good boy, FRAG-E!" Lisa cheers as you all follow the little robot's lead.

"C'mon, slowpoke!" Sam waves at you as you ring up the rear.

"Easier said than done!" You huff. On top of the loot you were carrying, you were also lugging heavy armor and an LMG. Of course you were going to fall behind a little bit!

"You're falling way behind!" Sam calls out.

Damnit, Sam.

"Shit." Lisa breathes, looking at her portable datascreen. "Looks like the cops are nearly finished putting their perimeter. If we don't hurry we're gonna be trapped."

"Yeah yeah, I get it." You grunt as you pick up the pace. No sooner than you say that when you hear a loud CRASH as police breach the house you had briefly taken shelter in.

FRAG-E plows through more fences before Lisa hits a button, forcing FRAG-E to screech to a stop. None of you need to second guess to stop and take cover.

There was one more wooden fence that lay between you and a street on the other side. On the other end, you could see a number of vehicles that you could potentially commandeer. Unfortunately, there was a pair of policebots patrolling down the street, no doubt looking for you.

"YES!" Lisa whoops as the hack tool beeps and glows green. The SUV's doors all automatically open, as if welcoming you inside. "We're in business!"

Without wasting a second, you load up the money and the loot into the trunk. You also pull off your masks and armor so as not to attract any additional attention. Artya instead opts to wrap her camo cloak around herself to blend with the vehicle's interior. However, you keep your sidearms, just in case. You weren't out of the woods, after all.

"All right, we should be good." Sam sighs in relief as she takes the wheel, driving as calmly as possible. The SUV slowly rolls past the the two patrolling police bots. Their optics scan you for a brief second, but they immediately turn away when they don't spot anything out of the ordinary.

"HAVE A NICE DAY, CITIZENS." They buzz.

Heh, there were some cases where robots were still pretty dumb.

You continue driving and it looks like you're about to be home free when Sam grimaces.

"Fuck. Checkpoint." She growls.

"How serious?" You you lean forward to get a better look.

"Nothing serious. One patrol car and just two cops. One fleshy and one bot." Sam says. "They're not even blocking the road. I think we can blow past them before backup can arrive."

"The hard way is also the fun way, Sam." You grin.

"Ugh, fine." Sam rolls her eyes. "Keep me covered though, all right?"

"Of course. What kind of sister would I be?" You say as your hand instinctively grips your hidden Interceptor pistol.

Lisa also has a bit of an anxious look on her face while the air in the seat next to you shimmers a bit as Artya fidgets. The SUV rolls to a slow stop as the police bot stands on the road and holds its hand out in a universal stop signal. The regular officer then walks up to Sam, who rolls down the window and sticks her head out, putting on her most disarmingly cheerful smile.

"Hello officer, can I help you?" She asks.

"We're looking for some criminals, ma'am." The officer says, stopping at the driver's seat window. That was a good sign. He wasn't checking the rest of the vehicle meaning he wasn't particularly suspicious. "You girls notice anything suspicious?"

"Huh... well, you don't look suspicious, so I suppose there's no problem in letting you pass." The officer shrugs. "All right, let them through!"

The policebot loyally nods and steps aside to let you pass.

"Don't get into trouble now, you hear me?" The officer nods as he steps away.

"Wouldn't ever think about it!" Sam laughs as she hits the gas. "Have a good day, officer!"

It's not until you're about four of five blocks away and certain you're not being followed that all of you finally breathe.

"OH MY GOD I THOUGHT WE WERE GONNA DIE." Lisa exhales.

VERY CLOSE. Artya agrees.

"Hell of an opening job, huh?" Sam laughs.

"And it was supposed to be an easy one, too." You sigh.

ARMORED TRUCK HEIST COMPLETE
Total Loot: $300,000

It takes a while before you can finally return to the safehouse. After all, you have to ditch the SUV since it would be sooner or later before it gets reported stolen, pick up a "clean" vehicle, and then finally head to the safehouse once you're sure the police weren't keeping eyes on the area.

"Man." You grin as you zip open your bag to check the contents. "That was a pretty big haul, wasn't it?"

"Well, it's not too bad." Sam shrugs. "Would've been better if we managed to bring the rest of it along."

"We never would have gotten away if we picked it up." You insist. "Even if it's just paper, money is still really heavy shit."

"That's true." Sam nods. "Maybe we should hit one of those E-money centers."

"You do realize the people who can afford to keep all their money electronic are the ones who pay out the ass to protect it?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Hey, it's an idea." Sam shrugs.

Meanwhile, Artya commences counting all of the money that you've collected, while Lisa has gone off to fix up FRAG-E. Now there wasn't much to do until the heat died down or Loki got some new jobs.

"Well I'm gonna take a shower." Sam sighs as she shirks off her jacket. "Heisting is dirty work."

Well, you decide to see whether you made any waves in Delta City. Honestly a bit of wishful thinking, but hey, can't hurt to see if you've picked up some notoriety, right? You flip on the TV and start filtering through the news feeds. However, most of it was just shitty weather predictions, the latest fashion trends, cute cat videos, and lots and lots of commercials.

"In other news," An anchorman you don't recognize drones on, "an armored truck was ambushed near District 3. While the police have so far refused to release details, it is believed that the perpetrators are still at large. If anybody has information that can lead to their arrest, please contact your local police station."

>INFAMY +1
>Your Infamy Level is currently at 1.
>Infamy Level is a measure of how (in)famous you are within Delta City. The higher your infamy level, the more lucrative jobs you will be given. However, on the other end, police will respond quicker and with greater force the more infamy you have.

Well, it was bit disappointing that you were basically just a footnote, but it WAS just your first job. You'll have to work you way up to it, you guess.

And then the phone rings. You look around. Sam was still taking a shower, Lisa was in the workshop, and Artya, well, you had sincere doubts she could use a phone. Seeing as you were the only one around, you pick it up.

"Congratulations." You hear the Russian's smooth, but powerful voice. "Another job well done."

"Sure." You nod. "But I hope you're not expecting us to go right away."

"Oh no, not at all. You'll have ample time to plan out your move." The Russian says with amusement. "And I assure you, you will be amply compensated for your work."

"How much are we talking about here?"

"Half a million for base pay, plus whatever you manage to steal." The Russian says smoothly. "And believe, what you can steal is rather valuable."

"Okay, what are you planning?" You narrow your eyes.

"As you may have guessed, Hotel Moscow is not the only criminal group operating in Delta City." The Russian explains, sounding more like a schoolteacher now instead of a crime boss. "We have a number of rival groups aiming to become the dominant one. However, it has come to my attention that two of my rivals, the Cartel and the Mafia, are planning to form an alliance against me."

"Sounds rough." You whistle. "But we're thieves, not hitmen. Are you sure we're right for the job?"

"Oh, I don't need you to kill anybody. At least nobody specific." The Russian chuckles. "You see, the way this alliance will be sealed will be a very large payment by the Cartel to the Mafia. Almost a million dollars' worth of pure cocaine. I want you derail their talks by ensuring that cocaine never trades hands. Steal, destroy it, I do not care as long as it is done."

"Again, why us?" You ask.

"Well, I can't very well risk having this attack traced back to Hotel Moscow, correct? Or else they would ally against me anyways."

"You have a point there." You concede.

Well, that certainly sounded lucrative, and you were sure it would bump up your street cred if you could pull it off.

"So since, you appear to be your crew's little de facto leader, I'll leave the choice up to you. Will you take the job or not?" The Russian asks. "Of course, I will provide further details if you accept."

Oh who were you kidding. In your line of work pretty much all jobs were dangerous.

"Okay, we'll take it." You say.

With that the line clicks as the connection is cut.

"Hey, Carly, what did I miss?" Sam asks as she returns, toweling off her wet hair and getting minidroplets of water everywhere.

"Yeah, it's more efficient." You nod. "Besides, we should all be fine. We're sticking to our strengths, you know?"

"I guess." Sam sighs. "Anyways, we'd better get some sleep, and YOU should remember to clean yourself up."

"Yeah yeah, Mom." You roll your eyes.

"I mean it. I don't us getting given away because you smell like a garbage dump." Sam continues.

"I get it!" You sigh.

>Okay, I'm going to end things here tonight.
>So, it looks like I just can't quite get into the groove on this quest, so I'll wrap up HEIST after this next job, and we'll try something else afterwards.
>For those of you still playing, I appreciate you all for sticking through it.
>Anyways, next thread will be next week. Don't forget Ace Combat on Friday. PJ Witches this week will most likely be on Tuesday.

Aww, I was hoping the last job will have us face the clover idols..
>>
>>39439938
So what type of quest are you thinking of doing after this one?
>>

>So, it looks like I just can't quite get into the groove on this quest, so I'll wrap up HEIST after this next job, and we'll try something else afterwards.
While I've enjoyed the quest a lot, I understand. This is for your fun as much as ours, and if it's not fun for you then it's not fun for you.
Kinda hoping the "something else" will still involve low-intensity OPERATIONS, because I've always really liked how you write those, but I'll give it a shot whatever it is.

It's a tad different from everything else, that's true. Gives it its charm, even if it seems like the readerbase is pretty low.

What did you have in mind as this "something else", Merc? XCOM? Shipsluts? Some other third thing?

Current ideas are either my own take on shipsluts or something in the vein of Steel Battalion.
>>

>something in the vein of Steel Battalion
I am the squee of my hype.
>>
>>39439938
thanks for the thread Merc
>>
>>39440046
No Juggler vs Domon's disciple?
>>
>>39440086
Merc has only ever done one sequel. It ended... poorly. I think he wants to avoid tempting fate.
>>
>>39440097
yeah I was there when it happened but just because one failed doesn't mean that all his sequels will fail though.
>>
>>39440122
Waifufags ruined the quest more than anything Merc did.
>>
>>39440046
>Steel Battalion

Mechs! Also, less waifus for people to fight over.
>>
>>39440046
I think you should do STEEL BATTALLION meets XCOM

Cast of mech operators doing extra serious business operations strike-1 can't handle alone.
>>
>>39440717
XCOM quests just don't work.
>>
>>39440781

Why not? I dn't think anyone's tried aside from multicom, and that was due to the GM overcommitting time, not any inherent flaw with the game concept
>>
>>39440826
I've seen about 6 different attempts, all failed.

The concept works as a video game, but what makes it fun does not translate into the quest format.
>>
>>39440046
I'm a little sick of Kancolle, go with Steel Battalion. Tactical mech combat sounds right up your alley.
>>
>>39440140
So still give it a shot though.

GBFQ managed to do well enough
>>
>>39440140
son it was the anti-waifus that killed that one
