With the two stonework figures charging at you, you instinctively draw Zelathis and ready your shield charm. You step back so the ram will reach you first, pivot, and thrust the heel of your hand in the summon’s direction, touching off the magic with your will.

The ram crashes into the invisible wall at an angle, shoving you backwards along the ground a few feet – you maintain your balance throughout. The ram, however, rebounds off in the wrong direction and is momentarily staggered. (Shield Charm: ½)

Immediately, you turn your attention to Hugo McStonemason and bring Zelathis about for a concussive strike. The blade connects with the brim of his shield and sets off a thunderclap. (Zelathis: 8/10) Hugo’s momentum turns against him, and he’s hurled backward into the snow.

He manages to stay on his feet, digging into the earth while you charge at him. You ignite your claws with corrupted negative energy, confident that you’ll be able to inflict some pain. (-2 PP: 31/33; +1 Stress: 16/103)

Except Hugo’s not as stunned as you hoped, and your confidence in pressing the attack alerts him to your plan, if not your exact abilities. When you slam into his shield and tear it aside with your shadow-self, you’re greeted with only a momentary impression of Hugo’s figure. Instead of rock, however, he’s formed into something between a solid and a liquid, and is vaguely transparent. (Water Hugo: 24 PP; 9 HP)
>>
>>39393958

You swipe at him with your claws anyway, but your blackened talons slash through his watery form, leaving only disappointing wakes. Still, you can feel the pain it inflicts thanks to the negative energy. (Hugo: 8 HP)

In turn, what feels like a whole river’s worth of icy water floods out from his outstretched arms, washing you away and buying you momentarily in constricting helplessness. You can’t shout or breath, and you’re utterly unaware of your surroundings for a couple panicked seconds of muffling cold and frantic gasps for air. (+15 Stress: 31/103)

However, the outflow eventually floods away into the surrounding snow, turning the icy ground to mud and depositing you in the thick of it. You gasp for breath and manage to recover quick enough to recognize Hugo’s liquid terminator form snaking toward you, shield completely discarded.

Meanwhile, you notice the water cougar has disengaged from Tiger, and is chasing after its master and toward you. The stone ram, meanwhile, takes up the fight, forcing Tiger to wrestle its deadly horns away from his vital organs.

“Yield,” says Hugo, raising his hands for another blast of water.

This is a problem.

You’re tired of being wet, and you have no inclination to get doused again. You rise, shivering against the frigid air, and ready Zelathis along with your fire whip. (-2 PP: 29/33) You’ve seen enough movies to know not to mix lightning and water, so you light up your rapier with a jet of hellfire just to scourge off the moisture that’ll get you killed. (-3 PP: 26/33) The flames burst out along the blade, boiling off the water and leaving the blade dry.

You raise Zelathis and pour more fire into your whip, (-5 PP: 21/33) and strike with both electricity and flames. (Zelathis: 5/10)

The lightning strikes true, hitting him right in the torso. The entirety of his water form spasms at the arcing, dancing current, setting him up for the fiery lash, which explodes over his head a moment later. The water form bursts and spreads out over the ground, dissipating into the earth, leaving nothing left for you to see.

Wait. Did you just kill him?

Except judging by the water cougar headed your way, that’s a solid no. You think.

The fight between Tiger and the stone ram isn’t going very well, especially since he’s being harassed by the fire falcon. Tiger, unlike you, is not immune to flames. (Tiger: 14/20 HP)

Monster circles about in his magpie disguise in a holding pattern, seemingly unable to pick something useful to do.

>>
>>39394524

Have Monster grab the shield as I assume the spear is still corrupted, yes?

Okay, guys, he might want to play the ambush game. That's cool, the reason we didn't was because he had two more combat summons and so if we can take them out quick then he's fucked.

He doesn't know that we're an Infernus, or that we can do shadow shit, so we can either geek his summons now and then fade into shadows if he pops up, or we can hunt him down with monster and beat him out with Tiger.
>>
>>39394524
>Do stuff (?)

We should expect him to come out of the ground somewhere, so keep aware of that. He's not finished yet. His spear is a likely point for him to reemerge, be ready to fuck him up as soon as he gets out of the ground.

Hit the cougar a couple times with our whip, try to take a limb out or something, keep it from continuing after us.

If we end up with spare time go after the stone ram, use Stain of Sin and claws/teeth or sword to deal some damage.

How dark is it currently?

It's not useless if we use it on Rowan.
>>
>>39394524

although it might hurt if it results in exploding ram.

We should get monster to harass the Water Cougar so that we have time to take out the Ram, and then we can wreck the firebird (probably pretty quick) while Tiger ties up the Water Cougar again, since it didn't really do much damage to the Shalbaan before.

And then the situation will have reversed!
>>

You will Monster to keep an eye out for Hugo, just in case the elementalist landmaster tries to surprise attack you from beneath. He might try to go for his spear now that the corruption’s wearing off, but with the time you have now, maybe you’ll be able to take out one of his summons.

You charge toward the water cougar, or rather on a course that will take you through it, and crack at it a couple of times with your fire whip. The creature manages to roll or flow out of the path of the strikes, but its inferior speed allows you to use the opening to gun past and head to your real objective – the stone ram.

You drop the fire whip, allowing it to sizzle into nothing so you can get both claws on Zelathis. You charge up on the ram’s flank, even as Tiger wrestles with its gouging horns. The Shalbaan perceives your intent, and suddenly throws itself into a full on suicidal attack, wrangling the ram further off balance for your strike.

You dump negative energy into the demonic blade, causing it crackle with unholy energy, and jam the entire length into the stone ram’s unprotected side. (-2 PP: 19/33) (+1 Stress: 32/103) You sink the blade up to the hilt, wrench it downward, and slice it out.

The ram makes a pathetic bleating sound, and then tumbles apart into a pile of rocks, freeing Tiger from the oppression.

Fire hawk makes another pass as Tiger at the seame moment, but you’re too slow to shield the shalbaan from the fiery strike. Tiger’s skin boils at the point of impact as the eagle soars back into the sky for another return attack. (Tiger: 10/20 HP)
>>
>>39395074

For now, though, the water cougar is coming back toward you, charging and flowing toward you with dangerous speed. So it does have speed, but it can’t change speed quickly. Something you can exploit.

A tugging at the edge of your consciousness tells you Monster sees something important. You briefly flicker to his perspective, and briefly see you and Tiger on the ground surrounded by the wet stain left by Hugo’s dissolving act. Except the stain seems to be contracting.

The sight goes white with pain as the fire eagle finds and collides with Monster midair. The imp is fiery and tough, but the eagle is made of solid flame. You leave the imp to deal with his own problems – you have something else to worry about.

While the cougar is rapidly coming at you, you find the ground underfoot becoming increasingly muddy – in fact, you find your feet sinking into the watery concoction underfoot.

Hugo thinks he’s got you trapped, but little does he know you’re made of dynamite. You allow the the water cougar to come closer, and watch the skies for the fire eagle, readying Zelathis for another lightning bolt.

The creature dives right on cue, arrowing straight toward Tiger’s unprotected back.

Well. Not quite unprotected. You take aim and touch off an arc of thunder, right before the falcon rips Tiger a new one. (Zelathis: 2/10)

Unfortunately, your lightning arc attack is just a tad low, and screams between both summons, zipping past. The lightning bolt carries on through the air, until it meets one of the several iron hulks scattered throughout the clearing, doing nothing but sending up a cascade of sparks.

Damn, that was your last bolt, wasted. At least you didn’t hit Tiger.

The falcon explodes off of Tiger’s back and takes back off into the sky. (Tiger: 7/20)

You look down, and realize you’re about calf-deep in the mud. You find you are immobile, which is not quite what you planned on coming into this. Still, nothing an explosion can’t take care of. You unlock the burning fire inside of you, allowing it full reign on the outside. Flames and writhing heat flare out from you like a supernova, boiling away the water cougar, drying and burning the ground beneath you, and scorching the mud into fine dust. (-8 PP: 11/33) (+10 Stress: 42/103)

When the heat subsides, you crawl out of the splotchy ground to dry land. Gasping for breath and feeling kind of dizzy, you stagger to your feet, just in time for the muddy ground at your back to recede and pull into itself like some kind of huge cement mixer thing.

The whirlpool sucks into itself, but instead of going downward, it spirals up, like some kind of weird reverse tornado.
>>
>>39395862

Except the weird funnel thing starts to pick up mass in its syrupy center, and tendrils bleed out from the core of the muddy, dripping column. More and more mass sucks upward into the impossibly suspended muddy column, until it starts to take on crude definition, mingled with snow, dead grass, rocks, and ice.

The towering form of mud turns clumsily to look down at you, and then you realize you’re in trouble. (+4 Stress: 46/103)

A dozen tons or more of liquidy mud teeters forward, and a tower of wet earth sloshes forward to smash into the ground in the vague approximation of a leg. From the barely anthropomorphic shape, a muddy fist bigger than you forms and drops down in a long arc.

You scramble backward out of the way, but you’re not quite fast enough – you turn at the last second to avoid the worst of it, but your legs get half crushed by the muddy avalanche. (-7 HP: 20/28) (+16 Stress: 62/103)

You let out a yelp of pain, but it doesn’t feel like anything’s broken. Just bruises. Lots of bruises. Maybe a fracture? Maybe. It's too cold to tell. So cold.

You’re not in a position to worry about your injuries, however. The ice-mingled mud liquefies and threatens to pour over your face, and you take a deep breath. You need time to figure out some way to get out.

But the mud stops short.

The towering form of mud has shifted slightly, and its attention has moved to something else behind you.

Are the Eclipse here? Or is Ranthix stepping in?

You crane your neck to look at what could have stolen the landmaster’s attention. You try to puzzle together why he’s so interested in a hunk of metal, which is what you feel the mud man is looking at. Is somebody hiding behind it?

Except the snow’s all scraped aside at the base of the metal hunk, as if it’s been dragged some distance.

Wait.

Tiger’s about where you saw him last, but the jumble of iron is about ten yards left of where it last was.

No blood, bud. In his water form, it got rid of the poison too.
>>
SoS still hurts this guy even in water form. I guess we just gotta get ~7 hits in. Or we could try to drain all his PP. Either way.
>>
There's got to be something we're missing here, maybe Blood Cursing his form is enough to get knock him out of his elemental state? Or there's some vital part of him that can be drained that we've overlooked? Or else just pumping full of negative energy? I'm worried we don't have the power points left to juke it out with him that much longer.
>>
i black out for i don't know how long and you people roll a 100, gotta say i'm quite disappointed in you all
>>
>>39396250
Do we get four hits if we SoS each limb?

>>39396278

He's a mage, and we couldn't geek him fast enough, so I'd say focus on draining him. He can't have that much PP left if he's making big-ass golems and shit.

Honestly, he probably should have stomped us, but he doesn't want to kill a kid.

You’re frantically feeling for darkness anywhere, but within the mud golem is solid mud. Fortunately, you manage to create some space in your struggle against the encroaching mud, and use your shadow and your limbs to struggle free from the landmaster’s grasp. Maybe you’ll corrupt the mud – that’s got to hurt if you’re controlling it. That’s the way to go, you’re sure of it.

However, the muddy mountain doesn’t pursue you, and continues staring at the janky metal thing that you guess just moved. Tiger also watches the hulk, strangely occupied with it.

You struggle to your feet, though find it a challenge. You’re coated in freezing mud, and your legs flare with pain at every movement. (+2 Stress: 64/103)

Frederick, Rowan, and others however run toward you. Frederick waves frantically in the direction of the white star at the edge of your vision. “Landwell, get the landwell!” he yells. The sound of shrieking metal distracts you from the others, though. You turn to the source.

The pile of scrap iron begins rattling and shifting, pieces rearranging into strangely organic forms. A furnace within the wreck flares up with a bright white light, though you don’t get the impression it gives off any heat. The the burning light, sequestered in a rusted cage, immediately slithers upwards, conveyed by dozens of metal shards towards the pinnacle of the thing. The movement lets you make out the general structure of the metal jumble, which is a barrel-shaped latticework of iron.

As the furnace thing locks into place, you realize the whole assembly is vaguely reminiscent ribcage and a partially crushed skull.

A bright red demon surmount a semi-distant hill. “STUPID SPAWNLING,” shouts Ranthix. “RUN!”

What?

>Attack Hugo while he's distracted.
>Run someplace?
>Other (?)
>>
>>39396358
Get the landwell, bug out.

Ranthix is telling us to run. Let's listen to him, shall we? And technically, since we brought it to life, it's our win. There's just the possibility of . . . a LOT of collateral damage.
>>
>>39396358
>Run someplace?

Get to the Landwell, take it, Well Tap the motherfucker.

Then run in the general direction of away from the massive monster, preferably towards our party.
>>
>>39396358
>RUN (to Ranthix)
>Yell Hugo to run

Ranthix knows best
>>

>Ranthix is telling us to run. Let's listen to him, shall we? And technically, since we brought it to life, it's our win. There's just the possibility of . . . a LOT of collateral damage.

Make sure Hugo hears this (after we grab the landwell).

You start limping off in the direction of the landwell, which while not exactly away from the iron monstrosity, is at least on a parallel path to it. “I made it move, that means I win the duel!” you shout.

A unspeakable screech of grating iron sounds from the reanimated horror. “ZORR.”

If Hugo’s ram wasn’t spooked before, it is now. At the sound, the ram leaps up and gallops toward the mud golem, almost flattening you along the way. As the landmaster’s steed approaches, the mud golem collapses, and a watery form emerges, which immediately resolves back to flesh. “We’ll talk later!” says Hugo, leaping from the pile of wet earth to lay himself on the rapidly retreating ram.

Meanwhile, you focus on not falling flat on your face. You’re pretty sure something is broken, because walking doesn’t feel good at all. (-1 HP: 19/28) (+2 Stress: 66/103)

Luckily, the landwell’s not too far off – just a little farther to go. Except at your current speed, even not-far distances are kind of far.

You enter the outer aura of the landwell, its silvery glow swirling about you in disturbed waves. At your back, you can feel movement more than see it. You don’t see it, but it’s moving somehow, and it’s moving fast. Worst of all, it’s moving toward you.

"RUN FASTER, SPAWNLING!"

Almost there. Almost there! Landwell time, almost in arm's reach!

A menacing presence looms at your back.

“ZORR.”

No time for arms.

You lash out at the soft white sun with the edges of your shadow, and grab hold.

So what the heck was that thing? I thought this plane was medieval. The ruins of a dead civilization?

Good threads, Lawngod. This run length is heroic

I wonder if we can landmaster this thing into being our pet robot. That'd be neat.

Thanks for running! Can't wait to see what goes down.

Also, we ran towards the landwell while Hugo ran away. Clearly, we won the duel.

THANKS FOR RUNNING LANGUID!
>>
>>39396691
Or he has several more than we do. He might not have the same base PP pool that we have from being a demon. Getting to 38 from the human standard of 2-4 would need more than 3 wells.
>>
>>39396691
If he does raise a fuss, we can always just continue the duel.

By that point it'll probably be pretty dark out which is nice, and we'll have healed up our HP and PP reserves with the Well.

Maybe tag him immediately with Blood Curse, see if that helps out. Go in fast, Hellfire+SoS+Claws might fuck him up.
>>
thank you O glorious lawngod

Maybe we'll figure out how to turn completely into shadows. Or maybe turn into fire. Being able to go intangible would be really helpful right about now.
